00:15 Hello and welcome to "His Words are Life."
00:18 I am Kelly Mower and today we are going to 00:20 continue reading in the book of Ecclesiastes, 00:22 but before we start, let's pray together. 00:25 Dear Heavenly Father, 00:26 thank you for Your blessings in our lives. 00:29 Blessing that we sometimes take for granted. 00:32 Help us now as we sit with the blessing of Your words 00:35 that we not just let them wash over our sin, 00:39 wash away again that may they go into our hearts 00:42 and it deepen life changing way to Your glory. 00:45 We love you so much and thank you for loving us, amen. 00:50 We are reading in the book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 00:54 and beginning with verse 20, 00:55 this is the King James Version. 00:58 "All go unto one place, all are of the dust, 01:03 and all turn to dust again. 01:06 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, 01:08 and the spirit of the beast 01:09 that goeth downward to the earth? 01:11 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, 01:15 than that a man should rejoice in his own works, 01:18 for that is his portion, 01:20 for who shall bring him to see what shall be done after him?" 01:24 Continuing in Ecclesiastes Chapter 4, 01:28 "So I returned, and considered all the oppressions 01:31 that are done under the sun, 01:32 and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, 01:36 and they had no comforter, 01:38 and on the side of their oppressors 01:39 there is power, but they had no comforter. 01:44 Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead 01:46 more than the living which are yet alive. 01:49 Yea, better is he than both they, 01:52 which hath not yet been, 01:54 who hath not seen the evil work 01:56 that is done under the sun. 01:58 Again, I considered all travail, 02:00 and every right work, 02:01 that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. 02:05 This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. 02:08 The fool foldeth his hands together, 02:10 and eateth his own flesh. 02:12 Better is an handful with quietness, 02:16 than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit. 02:21 Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun. 02:25 There is one alone, and there is not a second, 02:28 yea, he hath neither child nor brother, 02:32 yet is there no end of all his labour, 02:34 neither is his eye satisfied with riches, 02:37 neither saith he, For whom do I labour, 02:39 and bereave my soul of good? 02:42 This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail. 02:46 Two are better than one, 02:48 because they have a good reward for their labour. 02:51 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow, 02:55 but woe to him that is alone when he falleth, 02:57 for he hath not another to help him up. 03:01 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat, 03:05 but how can one be warm alone? 03:08 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him, 03:12 and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. 03:16 Better is a poor and a wise child 03:20 than an old and foolish king, 03:22 who will no more be admonished. 03:25 For out of prison he cometh to reign, 03:26 whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor. 03:31 I considered all the living which walk under the sun, 03:34 with the second child that shall stand up in his stead. 03:37 There is no end of all the people, 03:40 even of all that have been before them, 03:42 they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. 03:46 Surely this also is vanity and vexation of spirit. 03:51 Continuing in Ecclesiastes Chapter 5, 03:53 this is the King James Version. 03:56 Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, 03:59 and be more ready to hear, 04:02 than to give the sacrifice of fools, 04:04 for they consider not that they do evil. 04:08 Be not rash with thy mouth, 04:11 and let not thine heart be hasty 04:13 to utter any thing before God, 04:16 for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth, 04:22 therefore let thy words be few. 04:26 For a dream cometh through the multitude of business, 04:28 and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words. 04:33 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it, 04:38 for he hath no pleasure in fools, 04:40 pay that which thou hast vowed. 04:44 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, 04:47 than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. 04:50 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin, 04:55 neither say thou before the angel, 04:57 that it was an error, 04:59 wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, 05:02 and destroy the work of thine hands? 05:05 For in the multitude of dreams and many words 05:08 there are also divers vanities, but fear thou God. 05:13 If thou seest the oppression of the poor, 05:16 and violent perverting of judgment 05:18 and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter, 05:23 for he that is higher than the highest regardeth, 05:28 and there be higher than they. 05:31 Moreover the profit of the earth is for all, 05:33 the king himself is served by the field. 05:36 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver, 05:40 nor he that loveth abundance with increase, 05:44 this is also vanity. 05:46 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them, 05:50 and what good is there to the owners thereof, 05:53 saving the beholding of them with their eyes? 05:56 The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, 05:59 whether he eat little or much 06:02 but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. 06:07 There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, 06:10 namely, riches kept for the owners 06:13 thereof to their hurt. 06:16 But those riches perish by evil travail, 06:18 and he begetteth a son, 06:19 and there is nothing in his hand. 06:21 As he came forth of his mother's womb, 06:23 naked shall he return to go as he came, 06:27 and shall take nothing of his labour, 06:29 which he may carry away in his hand. 06:32 And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, 06:35 so shall he go, and what profit hath 06:38 he that hath laboured for the wind? 06:41 All his days also he eateth in darkness, 06:44 and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness. 06:49 Behold that which I have seen, 06:52 it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, 06:56 and to enjoy the good of all his labour 06:59 that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, 07:01 which God giveth him, for it is his portion. 07:06 Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, 07:10 and hath given him power to eat thereof, 07:14 and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour, 07:18 this is the gift of God. 07:20 For he shall not much remember the days of his life, 07:24 because God answereth him in the joy of his heart. 07:30 Continuing in the book of Ecclesiastes 07:32 this is Chapter 6 and it's the King James Version. 07:37 There is an evil 07:38 which I have seen under the sun, 07:39 and it is common among men. 07:42 A man to whom God hath given riches, 07:44 wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth 07:46 nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, 07:50 yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, 07:54 but a stranger eateth it, this is vanity, 07:57 and it is an evil disease. 07:59 If a man beget an hundred children, 08:01 and live many years, 08:03 so that the days of his years be many, 08:05 and his soul be not filled with good, 08:08 and also that he have no burial, 08:11 I say, that an untimely birth is better than he. 08:15 For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, 08:18 and his name shall be covered with darkness. 08:21 Moreover he hath not seen the sun, 08:23 nor known any thing, 08:26 this hath more rest than the other. 08:28 Yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, 08:31 yet hath he seen no good, do not all go to one place? 08:37 All the labour of man is for his mouth, 08:40 and yet the appetite is not filled. 08:42 For what hath the wise more than the fool? 08:44 What hath the poor, that knoweth to walk 08:47 before the living? 08:49 Better is the sight of the eyes 08:51 than the wandering of the desire, 08:53 this is also vanity and vexation of spirit. 08:56 That which hath been is named already, 08:59 and it is known that it is man, 09:01 neither may he contend with him 09:04 that is mightier than he. 09:06 Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, 09:08 what is man the better? 09:10 For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, 09:13 all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? 09:17 For who can tell a man 09:18 what shall be after him under the sun? 09:22 Continuing in Ecclesiastes Chapter 7. 09:25 A good name is better than precious ointment, 09:29 and the day of death than the day of one's birth. 09:33 It is better to go to the house of mourning, 09:35 than to go to the house of feasting, 09:37 for that is the end of all men, 09:39 and the living will lay it to his heart. 09:41 Sorrow is better than laughter, 09:44 for by the sadness of the countenance 09:46 the heart is made better. 09:49 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, 09:54 but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. 09:57 It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, 10:01 than for a man to hear the song of fools. 10:03 For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, 10:07 so is the laughter of the fool, this also is vanity. 10:11 Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad, 10:14 and a gift destroyeth the heart. 10:17 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof, 10:21 and the patient in spirit is better 10:24 than the proud in spirit. 10:26 Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry, 10:30 for anger resteth in the bosom of fools. 10:33 Say not thou, What is the cause 10:36 that the former days were better than these? 10:38 For thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this. 10:43 Wisdom is good with an inheritance, 10:45 and by it there is profit to them that see the sun. 10:50 For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense, 10:55 but the excellency of knowledge is, 10:57 that wisdom giveth life to them that have it. 11:01 Consider the work of God, 11:03 for who can make that straight, 11:06 which he hath made crooked? 11:08 In the day of prosperity be joyful, 11:11 but in the day of adversity consider, 11:14 God also hath set the one over against the other, 11:18 to the end that man should find nothing after him. 11:22 All things have I seen in the days of my vanity, 11:25 there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, 11:29 and there is a wicked man that prolongeth 11:31 his life in his wickedness. 11:34 Be not righteous over much, 11:37 neither make thyself over wise, 11:40 why shouldest thou destroy thyself? 11:41 Be not over much wicked, neither be though foolish, 11:45 why shouldest thou die before thy time? 11:49 It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this, 11:51 yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand, 11:56 for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all. 12:00 Wisdom strengtheneth the wise 12:02 more than ten mighty men which are in the city. 12:06 For there is not a just man upon earth, 12:07 that doeth good, and sinneth not. 12:10 Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken, 12:13 lest thou hear thy servant curse thee. 12:17 For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth 12:19 that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others. 12:22 All this have I proved by wisdom, I said, 12:27 I will be wise, but it was far from me. 12:31 That which is far off, and exceeding deep, 12:34 who can find it out? 12:37 I applied mine heart to know, and to search, 12:40 and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, 12:42 and to know the wickedness of folly, 12:45 even of foolishness and madness. 12:47 And I find more bitter than death the woman, 12:50 whose heart is snares and nets, 12:52 and her hands as bands, 12:55 who so pleaseth God shall escape from her, 12:58 but the sinner shall be taken by her. 13:02 Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, 13:05 counting one by one, to find out the account, 13:08 which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not, 13:11 one man among a thousand have I found, 13:14 but a woman among all those have I not found. 13:17 Lo, this only have I found, 13:19 that God hath made man upright, 13:22 but they have sought out many inventions. 13:26 Reading in Ecclesiastes Chapter 8 13:29 and this is the King James Version. 13:32 Who is as the wise man? 13:34 And who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? 13:38 A man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, 13:40 and the boldness of his face shall be changed. 13:44 I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, 13:47 and that in regard of the oath of God. 13:51 Be not hasty to go out of his sight, 13:54 stand not in an evil thing, 13:56 for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him. 13:58 Where the word of a king is, there is power, 14:02 and who may say unto him, What doest thou? 14:05 Who so keepeth the commandment 14:07 shall feel no evil thing, and a wise man's heart 14:09 discerneth both time and judgment. 14:12 Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, 14:17 therefore the misery of man is great upon him. 14:21 For he knoweth not that which shall be, 14:24 for who can tell him when it shall be? 14:27 There is no man that hath power 14:29 over the spirit to retain the spirit, 14:31 neither hath he power in the day of death, 14:33 and there is no discharge in that war, 14:35 neither shall wickedness deliver those 14:37 that are given to it. |
