00:15 Hello and welcome back to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 Today we are going to begin 00:19 reading in the Song of Solomon. 00:21 But let's pray before we start. 00:23 Our dear heavenly Father, 00:24 thank you that we may sit 00:26 and read again from the Song of Songs. 00:30 And as we read, please give to each of our hearts 00:35 a new vision of the love that You have for each one of us 00:39 and the love and the beauty that we should see in You 00:43 and have towards You. 00:45 We ask this in the name of your son Jesus, amen. 00:49 We're beginning in Song of Solomon, Chapter 8, 00:52 this is the King James Version. 00:55 "O that thou wert as my brother, 00:57 that sucked the breasts of my mother. 00:59 When I should find thee without, 01:01 I would kiss thee, yea, I should not be despised. 01:04 I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, 01:07 who would instruct me. 01:09 I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine 01:11 of the juice of my pomegranate. 01:14 His left hand should be under my head, 01:15 and his right hand should embrace me. 01:18 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, 01:20 that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please. 01:25 Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, 01:28 leaning upon her beloved? 01:30 I raised thee up under the apple tree, 01:32 there thy mother brought thee forth, 01:35 there she brought thee forth that bare thee. 01:38 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, 01:42 as a seal upon thine arm, for love is strong as death, 01:47 jealousy is cruel as the grave, 01:50 the coals thereof are coals of fire, 01:52 which hath a most vehement flame. 01:55 Many waters cannot quench love, 01:58 neither can the floods drown it. 02:00 If a man would give all the substance 02:03 of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. 02:09 We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts, 02:11 what shall we do for our sister in the day 02:13 when she shall be spoken for? 02:16 If she be a wall, we will build 02:19 upon her a palace of silver, and if she be a door, 02:23 we will inclose her with boards of cedar. 02:27 I am a wall, and my breasts like towers, 02:30 then was I in his eyes as one that found favor. 02:35 Solomon had a vineyard at Ba'al-ha'mon, 02:39 he let out the vineyard unto keepers, 02:41 every one for the fruit thereof was to bring 02:44 a thousand pieces of silver. 02:47 My vineyard, which is mine, is before me, 02:51 thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, 02:53 and those that keep the fruit thereof, two hundred. 02:57 Thou that dwellest in the gardens, 02:59 the companions hearken to thy voice, 03:02 cause me to hear it. 03:04 Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe 03:08 or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices." 03:14 Continuing now in the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 1, 03:18 this is the King James Version. 03:21 "The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, 03:24 which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem 03:28 in the days of Uzziah, 03:30 Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. 03:36 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, 03:39 for the Lord hath spoken, 03:41 I have nourished and brought up children, 03:44 and they have rebelled against me. 03:47 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib, 03:51 but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider. 03:57 Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, 04:02 a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters, 04:05 they have forsaken the Lord, 04:07 they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, 04:11 they are gone away backward. 04:14 Why should ye be stricken any more? 04:16 Ye will revolt more and more, the whole head is sick, 04:19 and the whole heart faint. 04:22 From the sole of the foot even unto the head 04:24 there is no soundness in it, but wounds, 04:27 and bruises, and putrefying sores, 04:30 they have not been closed, neither bound up, 04:32 neither mollified with ointment. 04:34 Your country is desolate, 04:36 your cities are burned with fire, 04:39 your land, strangers devour it in your presence, 04:42 and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers. 04:46 And the daughter of Zion is left 04:47 as a cottage in a vineyard, 04:49 as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city. 04:55 Except the Lord of hosts had left unto us 04:58 a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, 05:01 and we should have been like unto Gomorrah. 05:04 Hear the word of the Lord, ye rulers of Sodom, 05:07 give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah. 05:11 To what purpose is the multitude 05:13 of your sacrifices unto me? 05:15 Saith the Lord, I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, 05:18 and the fat of fed beasts, 05:20 and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, 05:22 or of lambs, or of he goats. 05:25 When ye come to appear before me, 05:27 who hath required this at your hand, 05:29 to tread my courts? Bring no more vain oblations, 05:34 incense is an abomination unto me, 05:36 the new moons and Sabbaths, 05:38 the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with, 05:42 it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. 05:46 Your new moons and your appointed feast 05:48 my soul hateth, they are a trouble unto me, 05:51 I am weary to bear them. 05:54 And when ye spread forth your hands, 05:56 I will hide mine eyes from you, 05:58 yea, when ye make many prayers, 06:00 I will not hear, your hands are full of blood. 06:05 Wash you, make you clean, put away the evil 06:09 of your doings from before mine eyes, cease to do evil. 06:13 Learn to do well, seek judgment, 06:15 relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, 06:18 plead for the widow. 06:20 Come now, and let us reason together, 06:23 saith the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet, 06:27 they shall be as white as snow, 06:29 though they be red like crimson, 06:32 they shall be as wool. 06:34 If ye be willing and obedient, 06:36 ye shall eat the good of the land. 06:39 But if ye refuse and rebel, 06:41 ye shall be devoured with the sword, 06:44 for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. 06:47 How is the faithful city become an harlot! 06:50 It was full of judgment, 06:52 righteousness lodged in it, but now murderers. 06:57 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water. 07:02 Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves, 07:05 every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards, 07:08 they judge not the fatherless, 07:11 neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them. 07:14 Therefore saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts, 07:18 the mighty One of Israel, 07:20 Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, 07:23 and avenge me of mine enemies 07:25 and I will turn my hand upon thee, 07:28 and purely purge away thy dross, 07:31 and take away all thy tin 07:32 and I will restore thy judges as at the first, 07:36 and thy counsellors as at the beginning, 07:39 afterward thou shalt be called, 07:41 The city of righteousness, the faithful city. 07:45 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, 07:48 and her converts with righteousness. 07:51 And the destruction of the transgressors 07:54 and of the sinners shall be together, 07:56 and they that forsake the Lord shall be consumed. 08:01 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks 08:02 which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded 08:05 for the gardens that ye have chosen. 08:07 For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, 08:11 and as a garden that hath no water. 08:14 And the strong shall be as tow, 08:16 and the maker of it as a spark, 08:18 and they shall both burn together, 08:20 and none shall quench them." 08:24 Continuing to read in the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 2. 08:27 This is the King James Version. 08:30 "The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz 08:32 saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 08:36 And it shall come to pass in the last days, 08:39 that the mountain of the Lord's house 08:42 shall be established in the top of the mountains, 08:45 and shall be exalted above the hills, 08:47 and all nations shall flow unto it. 08:50 And many people shall go and say, 08:52 Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, 08:55 to the house of the God of Jacob, 08:56 and he will teach us of his ways, 08:58 and we will walk in his paths, 09:01 for out of Zion shall go forth the law, 09:03 and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 09:06 And he shall judge among the nations, 09:09 and shall rebuke many people, 09:10 and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, 09:14 and their spears into pruning hooks, 09:17 nation shall not lift up sword against nation, 09:21 neither shall they learn war any more. 09:25 O house of Jacob, come ye, 09:28 and let us walk in the light of the Lord. 09:32 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, 09:35 because they be replenished from the east, 09:37 and are soothsayers like the Philistines, 09:39 and they please themselves in the children of strangers. 09:43 Their land also is full of silver and gold, 09:46 neither is there any end of their treasures, 09:48 their land is also full of horses, 09:50 neither is there any end of their chariots. 09:52 Their land also is full of idols, 09:55 they worship the work of their own hands, 09:58 that which their own fingers have made. 10:02 And the mean man boweth down, 10:04 and the great man humbleth himself, 10:06 therefore forgive them not. 10:08 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, 10:11 for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty. 10:14 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, 10:18 and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, 10:21 and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. 10:26 For the day of the Lord of hosts 10:28 shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, 10:32 and upon every one that is lifted up, 10:34 and he shall be brought low. 10:36 And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, 10:38 that are high and lifted up, 10:40 and upon all the oaks of Bashan, 10:42 and upon all the high mountains, 10:44 and upon all the hills that are lifted up, 10:46 and upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall, 10:50 and upon all the ships of Tarshish, 10:52 and upon all pleasant pictures. 10:55 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, 10:58 and the haughtiness of men shall be made low, 11:02 and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. 11:07 And the idols he shall utterly abolish. 11:10 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, 11:12 and into the caves of the earth, 11:13 for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, 11:16 when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. 11:20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, 11:23 and his idols of gold, 11:24 which they made each one for himself to worship, 11:27 to the moles and to the bats. 11:30 To go into the clefts of the rocks, 11:32 and into the tops of the ragged rocks, 11:33 for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, 11:37 when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. 11:40 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils, 11:44 for wherein is he to be accounted of? 11:49 Continuing in Isaiah, Chapter 3. 11:51 "For, behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, 11:55 doth take away from Jerusalem 11:57 and from Judah the stay and the staff, 12:00 the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water. 12:04 The mighty man, and the man of war, 12:06 the judge, and the prophet, 12:07 and the prudent, and the ancient. 12:09 The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, 12:12 and the counselor, and the cunning artificer, 12:15 and the eloquent orator. 12:17 And I will give children to be their princes, 12:20 and babes shall rule over them. 12:23 And the people shall be oppressed, 12:24 every one by another, and every one by his neighbor, 12:27 and child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, 12:31 and the base against the honorable. 12:36 When a man shall take hold of his brother 12:38 of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, 12:42 be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand. 12:45 In that day shall he swear, saying, 12:47 I will not be an healer, 12:48 for in my house is neither bread nor clothing, 12:51 make me not a ruler of the people. 12:53 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen, 12:57 because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord, 13:01 to provoke the eyes of his glory. 13:04 The show of their countenance doth witness against them, 13:07 and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. 13:11 Woe unto their soul! 13:13 For they have rewarded evil unto themselves. 13:17 Say ye to the righteous, 13:19 that it shall be well with him, 13:20 for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. 13:22 Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him, 13:26 for the reward of his hands shall be given him. 13:30 As for my people, children are their oppressors, 13:33 and women rule over them. 13:35 O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, 13:39 and destroy the way of thy paths. 13:43 The Lord standeth up to plead, 13:45 and standeth to judge the people. 13:48 The Lord will enter into judgment 13:50 with the ancients of his people, 13:51 and the princes thereof, 13:53 for ye have eaten up the vineyard, 13:55 the spoil of the poor is in your houses. 13:58 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, 14:01 and grind the faces of the poor? 14:03 Saith the Lord God of hosts. 14:06 Moreover the Lord saith, 14:08 because the daughters of Zion are haughty, 14:11 and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, 14:14 walking and mincing as they go, 14:16 and making a tinkling with their feet. 14:19 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab 14:21 the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, 14:24 and the Lord will discover their secret parts. 14:28 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery 14:31 of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, 14:33 and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon." |
