00:14 Hello, and welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me today to 00:20 read in the book of Isaiah together. But let's pray before 00:24 we start. Dear God, thank you again for bringing us to this 00:28 point where we can sit in your presence and focus on the 00:32 hearing of your word. Please send the Holy Spirit to guide 00:36 our hearts and our ears as we listen. We love you so much and 00:40 thank you for loving us. Amen. We're reading in the book of 00:44 Isaiah. This is the King James Version and we are starting in 00:48 chapter 41 with verse 29. Behold, they are all vanity; 00:54 their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and 01:00 confusion. Continuing now in chapter 42 in the book of Isaiah 01:06 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my 01:12 soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring 01:16 forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, 01:21 nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised 01:26 reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not 01:31 quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall 01:36 not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the 01:40 earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. Thus saith God the 01:45 Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them 01:48 out; he that spread forth the earth and that which cometh out 01:51 of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and 01:56 spirit to them that walk therein: I the Lord have called 02:00 thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep 02:05 thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a 02:08 light of the Gentiles; to open the blind eyes, to bring out 02:12 the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness 02:17 out of the prison house. I am the Lord: that is my name: and 02:21 my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to 02:26 graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, 02:31 and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell 02:36 you of them. Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise from 02:40 the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that 02:45 is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. Let the 02:49 wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, 02:52 the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of 02:55 the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. 02:59 Let them give glory unto the Lord, and declare his praise in 03:03 the islands. The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall 03:06 stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; 03:10 he shall prevail against his enemies. I have long time 03:16 holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now 03:21 will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour 03:25 at once. I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up 03:29 all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and 03:33 I will dry up the pools. And I will bring the blind by a way 03:38 that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not 03:42 known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked 03:47 things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not 03:51 forsake them. They shall be turned back, they shall be 03:54 greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the 03:59 molten images, Ye are our gods. Hear, ye deaf; and look ye 04:03 blind, that ye may see. Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, 04:08 as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is 04:12 perfect, and blind as the Lord's servant? Seeing many things, 04:17 but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. 04:21 The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will 04:26 magnify the law, and make it honourable. But this is a people 04:31 robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and 04:36 they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none 04:41 delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore. Who among 04:46 you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the 04:50 time to come? Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the 04:55 robbers? did not the Lord, he against whom we have sinned? 04:59 for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient 05:04 unto his law. Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his 05:08 anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on 05:12 fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he 05:16 laid it not to heart. Continue to read in the book of Isaiah 05:20 chapter 43 and this is the King James Version. 05:25 But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he 05:29 that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed 05:33 thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou 05:38 passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through 05:42 the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest 05:46 through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the 05:51 flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy 05:55 One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, 06:00 Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Since thou wast precious in my 06:05 sight, thou hast been honourable and I have loved thee: therefore 06:08 will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not: 06:13 for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, 06:17 and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give 06:21 up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, 06:25 and my daughters from the ends of the earth; even every one 06:28 that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, 06:32 I have formed him; yea, I have made him. Bring forth the blind 06:36 people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. Let all the 06:40 nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: 06:44 who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let 06:48 them bring forth their witnesses that they may be justified: or 06:52 let them hear, and say, It is truth. Ye are my witnesses, 06:57 saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may 07:01 know and believe me, and understand that I am he; 07:06 before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be 07:12 after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is 07:18 no saviour. I have declared, and have saved, and I have 07:22 shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore 07:27 ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God. Yea, before 07:33 the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of 07:38 my hand: I will work and who shall let it? Thus saith the 07:43 Lord, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I 07:48 have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, 07:52 and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships. I am the Lord, 07:56 your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King. Thus saith 07:59 the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the 08:03 mighty waters; which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the 08:07 army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall 08:12 not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as tow. Remember 08:16 ye not the former things, neither consider the things of 08:21 old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring 08:26 forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the 08:31 wilderness, and rivers in the desert. The beast of the field 08:35 shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give 08:39 waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give 08:44 drink to my people, my chosen. This people have I formed for 08:50 myself; they shall shew forth my praise. But thou hast not 08:54 called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, 08:59 O Israel. Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt 09:04 offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. 09:08 I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied 09:11 thee with incense. Thou hast brought me no sweet cane with 09:14 money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy 09:18 sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou 09:21 hast wearied me with thine iniquities. I, even I, am he 09:29 that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own 09:32 sake, and will not remember thy sins. Put me in remembrance: let 09:38 us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified. 09:44 Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have 09:47 transgressed against me. Therefore I have profaned 09:50 the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the 09:52 curse, and Israel to reproaches. 09:55 Continuing in Isaiah chapter 44. This is the King James Version. 10:00 Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have 10:06 chosen: Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from 10:10 the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; 10:15 and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water 10:19 upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I 10:24 will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine 10:28 offspring: and they shall spring up as among the grass, as 10:33 willows by the water courses. One shall say, I am the Lord's; 10:38 and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; 10:41 and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord, and 10:45 surname himself by the name of Israel. Thus saith the Lord the 10:49 King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the 10:54 first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. 10:59 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in 11:03 order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the 11:06 things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto 11:11 them. Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee 11:16 from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my 11:20 witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; 11:25 I know not any. They that make a graven image are all of them 11:30 vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and 11:34 they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that 11:39 they may be ashamed. Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven 11:43 image that is profitable for nothing? Behold, all his fellows 11:47 shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: 11:50 let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; 11:53 yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together. 11:57 The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and 12:00 fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of 12:03 his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he 12:07 drinketh no water, and is faint. The carpenter stretcheth 12:11 out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with 12:14 planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it 12:18 after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a 12:21 man; that it may remain in the house. He heweth him down 12:24 cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he 12:28 strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he 12:32 planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. Then shall it 12:35 be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm 12:39 himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he 12:43 maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, 12:47 and falleth down thereto. He burneth part thereof in the 12:51 fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, 12:55 and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, 12:59 Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: and the residue thereof he 13:05 maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, 13:10 and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; 13:14 for thou art my god. They have not known 13:17 nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, 13:20 that they cannot see; in their hearts, 13:21 that they cannot understand. And none considereth in his 13:25 heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding 13:27 to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have 13:32 baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, 13:35 and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an 13:39 abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? 13:43 He feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside, 13:48 that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in 13:53 my right hand? Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art 13:58 my servant: I have formed thee; thou art me servant: O Israel, 14:04 thou shalt not be forgotten of me. I have blotted out, as a 14:09 thick cloud, thy transgressions, and as a cloud, thy sins: return 14:15 unto me; for I have redeemed thee. Sing, O ye heaven; for the 14:20 Lord hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: 14:24 break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every 14:29 tree therein: for the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified 14:34 himself in Israel. Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he 14:39 that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord. |
