But let's pray before we start. 00:23 Dear heavenly Father, thank you again for your love to us, for 00:28 your mercy, for setting us free from the weight of guilt, from 00:32 the chains of iniquity. Please be with us now and teach us how 00:37 to walk in freedom through the hearing of your word. We love 00:40 you so much and thank you for loving us. Amen. I'm reading in 00:45 the book of Jeremiah in chapter 10 starting with verse 1. 00:48 And this is the King James Version. 00:51 Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of 00:55 Israel: thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the 00:59 heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the 01:04 heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people 01:08 are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of 01:12 the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with 01:15 silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with 01:18 hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, 01:23 but speak not: they must need be borne, because they cannot go. 01:28 Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is 01:33 it in them to do good. Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, 01:37 O Lord; thou art great, and thy name is great in might. 01:41 Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it 01:46 appertain; forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, 01:50 and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee. But they 01:56 are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine 02:02 of vanities. Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, 02:07 and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands 02:10 of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all 02:14 the work of cunning men. But the Lord is the true God, he is the 02:20 living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth 02:25 shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his 02:29 indignation. Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have 02:34 not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish 02:38 from the earth, and from under these heavens. He hath made the 02:42 earth by his power, he hath established the world by his 02:47 wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion. 02:51 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters 02:56 in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to ascend from the 03:00 ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and 03:03 bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures. Every man is 03:07 brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the 03:12 graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is 03:17 no breath in them. They are vanity, and the work of errors: 03:22 in the time of their visitation they shall perish. The portion 03:27 of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; 03:30 and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The Lord of hosts 03:34 is his name. Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of 03:40 the fortress. For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will sling 03:45 out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress 03:50 them, that they may find it so. Woe is me for my hurt! my wound 03:57 is grievous; but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear 04:03 it. My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: 04:07 my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is 04:11 none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my 04:15 curtains. For the pastors are become brutish, and have not 04:19 sought the Lord: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their 04:24 flocks shall be scattered. Behold, the noise of the 04:28 bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north 04:31 country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of 04:33 dragons. O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in 04:40 himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. 04:45 O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, 04:50 lest thou bring me to nothing. Pour out thy fury upon the 04:56 heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not 05:00 on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and 05:05 consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate. 05:11 Continuing in Jeremiah chapter 11 and this is the 05:15 King James Version. The word that came to Jeremiah 05:20 from the Lord saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and 05:23 speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem; 05:27 and say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel; 05:30 Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant, 05:34 which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them 05:37 forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, 05:40 Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command 05:45 you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God: that I 05:50 may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, 05:52 to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this 05:56 day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O Lord. Then the Lord 06:03 said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, 06:06 and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of 06:09 this covenant, and do them. For I earnestly protested unto your 06:14 fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land 06:16 of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, 06:20 saying, Obey my voice. Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their 06:25 ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: 06:31 therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, 06:36 which I commanded them to do: but they did them not. And the 06:41 Lord said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, 06:45 and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. They are turned back 06:48 to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to 06:52 hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: 06:56 the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my 07:00 covenant which I made with their fathers. Therefore thus saith 07:04 the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall 07:08 not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, 07:11 I will not hearken unto them. Then shall the cities of Judah 07:16 and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto 07:21 whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all 07:24 in the time of their trouble. For according to the number of 07:28 thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the 07:32 number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up 07:34 altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense 07:38 unto Baal. Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither 07:43 lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them 07:46 in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble. What hath 07:50 my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness 07:52 with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou 07:57 doest evil, then thou rejoicest. The Lord called thy name, A 08:02 green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of 08:05 a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches 08:09 of it are broken. For the Lord of hosts, that planted thee, 08:12 hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house 08:15 of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done 08:18 against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense 08:24 unto Baal. And the Lord hath given me knowledge of it, and 08:28 I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings. But I was like a 08:33 lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not 08:37 that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us 08:40 destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off 08:43 from the land of the living, that his name may be no more 08:46 remembered. But, O Lord of hosts that judgest righteously, that 08:52 triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on 08:57 them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause. Therefore 09:02 thus saith the Lord of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, 09:05 saying, Prophesy not in the name of the Lord, that thou die not 09:09 by out hand: therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, 09:13 I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; 09:17 their sons and their daughters shall die by famine: And there 09:20 shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the 09:24 men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation. 09:27 Continuing to read in the book of Jeremiah chapter 12. 09:31 This is the King James Version. 09:33 Righteous art thou, O Lord, when I plead with thee: yet let me 09:41 talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the 09:45 wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very 09:51 treacherously? Thou has planted them, yea, they have taken root: 09:55 they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their 10:00 mouth, and far from their reins. But thou, O Lord, knowest me: 10:06 thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull 10:11 them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for 10:13 for the day of slaughter. How long shall the land mourn, and 10:17 the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that 10:19 dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because 10:24 they said, He shall not see our last end. If thou hast run with 10:29 the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst 10:31 thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein 10:35 thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in 10:37 the swelling of Jordan? For even thy brethren, and the house of 10:42 thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, 10:45 they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, 10:48 though they speak fair words unto thee. I have forsaken mine 10:53 house, I have left mine heritage I have given the dearly beloved 10:57 of my soul into the hand of her enemies. Mine heritage is unto 11:01 me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: 11:04 therefore have I hated it. Mine heritage is unto me as a 11:09 speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, 11:13 assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour. 11:16 Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my 11:22 portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a 11:26 desolate wilderness. They have made it desolate, and being 11:30 desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, 11:34 because no man layeth it to heart. The spoilers are come 11:38 upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the 11:42 Lord shall devour from the one end of the land even to the 11:45 other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace. They have sown 11:49 wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain 11:54 but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your 11:57 revenues because of the fierce anger of the Lord. Thus saith 12:00 the Lord against all mine evil neighbors, that touch the 12:04 inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; 12:07 Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the 12:11 house of Judah from among them. And it shall come to pass, after 12:14 that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion 12:19 on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage 12:23 and every man to his land. And it shall come to pass, if they 12:30 will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my 12:34 name, The Lord liveth; as they taught my people to swear by 12:39 Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people. But 12:44 if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy 12:49 that nation, saith the Lord. 12:51 Continuing with Jeremiah chapter 13 12:54 and this is the King James Version. 12:56 Thus saith the Lord unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and 13:02 put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. So I got a 13:08 girdle according to the word of the Lord, and put it on my 13:11 loins. And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, 13:14 saying, take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy 13:17 loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in 13:23 a hole of the rock. So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the 13:28 Lord commanded me. And it came to pass after many days, that 13:33 Lord said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle 13:38 from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. Then I went 13:43 to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place 13:45 where I had hid it: and, behold the girdle was marred, it was 13:50 profitable for nothing. Then the word of the Lord came unto me, 13:53 saying, thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar 13:57 the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. 14:00 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in 14:05 the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to 14:08 serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, 14:12 which is good for nothing. For as the girdle cleaveth to the 14:16 loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole 14:19 house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; 14:22 that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and 14:28 for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear. 14:32 Thank you for joining with me.
