00:15 Hello welcome to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 I am Kelly Mowrer and today we will be reading 00:19 together from the Book of Jeremiah. 00:21 But let's pray together first. 00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, please be with us now 00:26 as we read these words from Your book. 00:29 Please send the Holy Spirit to show us 00:32 how You would have us take the words that we hear today 00:35 and use them to bear fruit in our own lives to Your glory. 00:38 We love You so much 00:39 and thank You for loving us, amen. 00:42 We are beginning today in Jeremiah Chapter 36 verse 3 00:46 and this is the King James Version. 00:50 It may be that the house of Judah 00:52 will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them, 00:56 that they may return every man from his evil way, 00:59 that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. 01:02 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah, 01:06 and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah 01:08 all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, 01:11 upon a roll of a book. 01:13 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up, 01:18 I cannot go into the house of the Lord, 01:20 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, 01:23 which thou hast written from my mouth, 01:25 the words of the Lord in the ears of the people 01:28 in the Lord's house upon the fasting day, 01:30 and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah 01:32 that come out of their cities. 01:34 It may be they will present their supplication 01:37 before the Lord, and will return every one 01:39 from his evil way, for great is the anger 01:42 and the fury that the Lord hath pronounced 01:45 against this people. 01:47 And Baruch the son of Neriah 01:49 did according to all that 01:50 Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, 01:52 reading in the book the words of the Lord 01:55 in the Lord's house. 01:57 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim 02:00 the son of Josiah king of Judah, 02:02 in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast 02:06 before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, 02:08 and to all the people that came 02:10 from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem. 02:13 Then read Baruch in the book 02:15 the words of Jeremiah in the house of the Lord, 02:18 in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, 02:22 in the higher court, 02:23 at the entry of the new gate of the Lord's house, 02:26 in the ears of all the people. 02:28 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, 02:31 the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book 02:33 all the words of the Lord, 02:35 Then he went down into the king's house, 02:37 into the scribe's chamber, and, lo, 02:40 all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, 02:45 and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, 02:48 and Elnathan the son of Achbor, 02:49 and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, 02:51 and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. 02:55 Then Michaiah declared unto them 02:57 all the words that he had heard, 02:59 when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people. 03:03 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, 03:08 the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, 03:12 unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll 03:15 wherein thou hast read 03:16 in the ears of the people, and come. 03:20 So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, 03:23 and came unto them. 03:25 And they said unto him, 03:26 Sit down now, and read it in our ears. 03:30 So Baruch read it in their ears. 03:33 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, 03:37 they were afraid both one and other, 03:40 and said unto Baruch, 03:41 We will surely tell the king of all these words. 03:45 And they asked Baruch, saying, tell us now, 03:49 how didst thou write all these words at his mouth? 03:54 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words 03:57 unto me with his mouth, 03:58 and I wrote them with ink in the book. 04:01 Then said the princes unto Baruch, 04:03 Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah, 04:06 and let no man know where ye be. 04:09 And they went in to the king into the court, 04:11 but they laid up the roll 04:12 in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, 04:15 and told all the words in the ears of the king. 04:19 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll, 04:22 and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. 04:25 And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, 04:28 and in the ears of all the princes 04:29 which stood beside the king. 04:32 Now the king sat in the winter house in the ninth month, 04:36 and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. 04:40 And it came to pass, 04:41 that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, 04:45 he cut it with the penknife, 04:47 and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, 04:50 until all the roll was consumed in the fire 04:54 that was on the hearth. 04:56 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, 05:00 neither the king, nor any of his servants 05:02 that heard all these words. 05:04 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah 05:09 had made intercession to the king 05:11 that he would not burn the roll, 05:13 but he would not hear them. 05:15 But the king commanded Jerahmeel 05:18 the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, 05:23 and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, 05:25 to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, 05:29 but the Lord hid them. 05:31 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, 05:34 after that the king had burned the roll, 05:36 and the words which Baruch wrote 05:38 at the mouth of Jeremiah, 05:40 saying, Take thee again another roll, 05:43 and write in it all the former words 05:46 that were in the first roll, 05:47 which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned. 05:50 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, 05:53 Thus saith the Lord, Thou hast burned this roll, 05:57 saying, Why hast thou written therein, 06:00 saying, The king of Babylon 06:01 shall certainly come and destroy this land, 06:03 and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? 06:06 Therefore thus saith the Lord of Jehoiakim king of Judah, 06:10 He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David, 06:13 and his dead body shall be cast out 06:15 in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. 06:19 And I will punish him and his seed 06:21 and his servants for their iniquity, 06:24 and I will bring upon them 06:25 and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, 06:28 and upon the men of Judah, 06:29 all the evil that I have pronounced against them, 06:32 but they hearkened not. 06:34 Then took Jeremiah another roll, 06:37 and gave it to Baruch the scribe, 06:39 the son of Neriah, who wrote therein 06:41 from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book 06:44 which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire, 06:48 and there were added besides unto them many like words. 06:53 Continuing with Jeremiah Chapter 37 06:55 and this is the King James Version. 06:58 And King Zedekiah the son of Josiah 07:01 reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, 07:04 whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon 07:06 made king in the land of Judah. 07:08 But neither he, nor his servants, 07:10 nor the people of the land, 07:12 did hearken unto the words of the Lord, 07:14 which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah. 07:17 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal 07:20 the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah 07:23 the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet 07:27 Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lord our God for us. 07:32 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people, 07:36 for they had not put him into prison. 07:39 Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt, 07:42 and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem 07:45 heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem. 07:49 Then came the word of the Lord unto the prophet Jeremiah 07:51 saying, Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, 07:55 Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, 07:57 that sent you unto me to enquire of me, 08:01 Behold, Pharaoh's army, 08:03 which is come forth to help you, 08:05 shall return to Egypt into their own land. 08:08 And the Chaldeans shall come again, 08:10 and fight against this city, 08:11 and take it, and burn it with fire. 08:15 Thus saith the Lord, deceive not yourselves, 08:18 saying, the Chaldeans shall surely depart from us, 08:22 for they shall not depart. 08:24 For though ye had smitten 08:25 the whole army of the Chaldeans 08:27 that fight against you, and there remained 08:28 but wounded men among them, 08:30 yet should they rise up every man in his tent, 08:33 and burn this city with fire. 08:37 And it came to pass, 08:38 that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up 08:40 from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army, 08:43 Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem 08:45 to go into the land of Benjamin, 08:48 to separate himself thence in the midst of the people. 08:52 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, 08:54 a captain of the ward was there, 08:57 whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, 09:00 the son of Hananiah, and he took Jeremiah the prophet, 09:04 saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans. 09:08 Then said Jeremiah, it is false, 09:11 I fall not away to the Chaldeans. 09:14 But he hearkened not to him, so Irijah took Jeremiah, 09:18 and brought him to the princes. 09:19 Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, 09:22 and smote him, and put him in prison 09:23 in the house of Jonathan the scribe, 09:25 for they had made that the prison. 09:28 When Jeremiah was entered 09:29 into the dungeon, and into the cabins, 09:31 and Jeremiah had remained there many days, 09:33 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out, 09:36 and the king asked him secretly in his house, 09:39 and said, Is there any word from the Lord? 09:43 And Jeremiah said, there is, 09:46 for, said he, thou shalt be delivered 09:48 into the hand of the king of Babylon. 09:51 Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, 09:55 What have I offended against thee, 09:57 or against thy servants, or against this people, 10:00 that ye have put me in prison? 10:02 Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, 10:05 saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, 10:07 nor against this land? 10:10 Therefore hear now, I pray thee, 10:11 O my Lord the king, let my supplication, 10:14 I pray thee, be accepted before thee, 10:17 that thou cause me not to return to the house of 10:20 Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. 10:25 Then Zedekiah the king commanded 10:27 that they should commit Jeremiah 10:29 into the court of the prison, 10:31 and that they should give him daily a piece of bread 10:34 out of the bakers' street, 10:35 until all the bread in the city were spent. 10:38 andThus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison. 10:42 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 38 10:44 and this is the King James Version. 10:48 Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, 10:51 and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, 10:54 and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, 10:56 and Pashur the son of Malchiah, 10:58 heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken 11:01 unto all the people, saying, Thus saith the Lord, 11:04 He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, 11:08 by the famine, and by the pestilence, 11:10 but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live, 11:14 for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live. 11:18 Thus saith the Lord, 11:20 This city shall surely 11:21 be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, 11:24 which shall take it. 11:26 Therefore the princes said unto the king, 11:28 We beseech thee, let this man be put to death, 11:31 for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war 11:33 that remain in this city, 11:34 and the hands of all the people, 11:35 in speaking such words unto them, 11:37 for this man seeketh not 11:38 the welfare of this people, but the hurt. 11:42 Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand, 11:46 for the king is not he that can do any thing against you. 11:50 Then took they Jeremiah, 11:53 and cast him into the dungeon 11:55 of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, 11:57 that was in the court of the prison, 11:59 and they let down Jeremiah with cords. 12:02 And in the dungeon there was no water, 12:05 but mire, so Jeremiah sunk in the mire. 12:10 Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, 12:12 one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, 12:16 heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon, 12:18 the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin, 12:21 Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, 12:23 and spake to the king saying, My Lord the king, 12:27 these men have done evil in all 12:29 that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, 12:31 whom they have cast into the dungeon, 12:33 and he is like to die for hunger 12:35 in the place where he is, 12:36 for there is no more bread in the city. 12:39 Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, 12:42 saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, 12:45 and take up Jeremiah the prophet 12:47 out of the dungeon, before he die. 12:50 So Ebedmelech took the men with him, 12:52 and went into the house of the king 12:53 under the treasury, and took thence 12:55 old cast clouts and old rotten rags, 13:00 and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. 13:05 And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, 13:08 Put now these old cast clouts 13:10 and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. 13:14 And Jeremiah did so. 13:17 So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, 13:19 and took him up out of the dungeon, 13:22 and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison. 13:26 Then Zedekiah the king sent, 13:28 and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry 13:32 that is in the house of the Lord, 13:33 and the king said unto Jeremiah, 13:35 I will ask thee a thing, hide nothing from me. 13:40 Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, 13:43 If I declare it unto thee, 13:44 wilt thou not surely put me to death? 13:47 And if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me? 13:50 So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, 13:54 saying, As the Lord liveth, that made us this soul, 13:57 I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee 13:59 into the hand of these men that seek thy life. 14:03 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, 14:06 Thus saith the Lord, the God of hosts, 14:08 the God of Israel, 14:09 If thou wilt assuredly go forth 14:12 unto the king of Babylon's princes, 14:14 then thy soul shall live, 14:17 and this city shall not be burned with fire, 14:20 and thou shalt live, and thine house, 14:22 But if thou wilt not go forth 14:24 to the king of Babylon's princes, 14:26 then shall this city be given 14:28 into the hand of the Chaldeans, 14:30 and they shall burn it with fire, 14:31 and thou shalt not escape out of their hand. 14:36 Thank you for joining with me 14:37 and please join me again next time to read 14:39 the word of God together. Good bye. |
