00:15 Hello and welcome to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 I am Kelly Mowrer and today we're going to 00:19 continue reading together in the Book of Jeremiah. 00:22 But let's pray together before we start. 00:25 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much for this day 00:29 that you have made. 00:30 May we rejoice and be glad in it 00:33 and may we particularly in Your presence now, 00:36 hear Your words speaking to us 00:39 and bearing fruit in our lives. 00:40 We love You so much 00:42 and thank You for loving us, amen. 00:45 Reading in the Book of Jeremiah, 00:47 Chapter 41 beginning with verse 16 00:50 and this is the King James Version. 00:53 Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, 00:56 and all the captains of the forces 00:58 that were with him, all the remnant of the people 01:01 whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, 01:04 from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah 01:08 the son of Ahikam, even mighty men of war, 01:11 and the women, and the children, 01:14 and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon, 01:17 And they departed, and dwelt in the habitation of Chimham, 01:22 which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt, 01:26 Because of the Chaldeans, for they were afraid of them, 01:29 because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah 01:31 had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, 01:34 whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land. 01:39 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 42 01:41 and this is the Kings James Version. 01:44 Then all the captains of the forces, 01:47 and Johanan the son of Kareah, 01:49 and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, 01:52 and all the people from the least 01:54 even unto the greatest, 01:56 came near, And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, 02:00 Let, we beseech thee, our supplication 02:03 be accepted before thee, 02:05 and pray for us unto the Lord thy God, 02:07 even for all this remnant, 02:09 for we are left but a few of many, 02:12 as thine eyes do behold us, 02:15 That the Lord thy God may shew us 02:17 the way wherein we may walk, 02:19 and the thing that we may do. 02:22 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, 02:25 I have heard you, behold, I will pray unto the Lord 02:28 your God according to your words, 02:31 and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing 02:33 the Lord shall answer you, I will declare it unto you, 02:36 I will keep nothing back from you. 02:39 Then they said to Jeremiah, The Lord be a true 02:42 and faithful witness between us, 02:47 if we do not even according to all things 02:50 for the which the Lord thy God shall send thee to us. 02:53 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, 02:56 we will obey the voice of the Lord our God, 02:59 to whom we send thee, that it may be well with us, 03:02 when we obey the voice of the Lord our God. 03:05 And it came to pass after ten days, 03:07 that the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah. 03:11 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, 03:14 and all the captains of the forces 03:16 which were with him, and all the people 03:18 from the least even to the greatest, 03:21 And said unto them, Thus saith the Lord, 03:24 the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me 03:28 to present your supplication before him, 03:31 If ye will still abide in this land, 03:34 then will I build you, and not pull you down, 03:38 and I will plant you, and not pluck you up, 03:41 for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you. 03:44 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, 03:47 of whom ye are afraid, be not afraid of him, 03:50 saith the Lord, for I am with you to save you, 03:54 and to deliver you from his hand. 03:57 And I will show mercies unto you, 03:59 that he may have mercy upon you, 04:01 and cause you to return to your own land. 04:05 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, 04:08 neither obey the voice of the Lord your God, 04:10 Saying, No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, 04:13 where we shall see no war, 04:14 nor hear the sound of the trumpet, 04:16 nor have hunger of bread, and there will we dwell, 04:20 And now therefore hear the word of the Lord, 04:22 ye remnant of Judah, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, 04:25 the God of Israel, 04:27 If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, 04:32 and go to sojourn there, Then it shall come to pass, 04:35 that the sword, which ye feared, 04:37 shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, 04:41 and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, 04:44 shall follow close after you there in Egypt, 04:48 and there ye shall die. 04:50 So shall it be with all the men 04:52 that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there, 04:57 they shall die by the sword, 04:59 by the famine, and by the pestilence, 05:01 and none of them shall remain or escape 05:04 from the evil that I will bring upon them. 05:07 For thus saith the Lord of hosts, 05:08 the God of Israel, As mine anger and my fury 05:12 hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, 05:16 so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, 05:19 when ye shall enter into Egypt, 05:21 and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, 05:25 and a curse, and a reproach, 05:28 and ye shall see this place no more. 05:31 The Lord hath said concerning you, 05:33 O ye remnant of Judah, Go ye not into Egypt, 05:38 know certainly that I have admonished you this day. 05:43 For ye dissembled in your hearts, 05:45 when ye sent me unto the Lord your God, 05:47 saying, Pray for us unto the Lord our God, 05:48 and according unto all that the Lord our God shall say, 05:51 so declare unto us, and we will do it. 05:54 And now I have this day declared it to you, 05:58 but ye have not obeyed 05:59 the voice of the Lord your God, 06:01 nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you. 06:06 Now therefore know certainly 06:08 that ye shall die by the sword, 06:10 by the famine, and by the pestilence, 06:12 in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn. 06:18 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 43 06:20 and this is the King James Version. 06:23 And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made 06:26 an end of speaking unto all the people 06:29 all the words of the Lord their God, 06:31 for which the Lord their God had sent him to them, 06:33 even all these words, 06:35 Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, 06:39 and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, 06:43 saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely, 06:48 the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, 06:51 Go not into Egypt to sojourn there, 06:55 But Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, 06:59 for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, 07:02 that they might put us to death, 07:03 and carry us away captives into Babylon. 07:07 So Johanan the son of Kareah, 07:09 and all the captains of the forces, 07:11 and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the Lord, 07:16 to dwell in the land of Judah. 07:19 But Johanan the son of Kareah, 07:21 and all the captains of the forces, 07:23 took all the remnant of Judah, 07:25 that were returned from all nations, 07:27 whither they had been driven, 07:28 to dwell in the land of Judah, 07:32 Even men, and women, and children, 07:35 and the king's daughters, 07:36 and every person that Nebuzaradan 07:38 the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah 07:41 the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, 07:44 and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah. 07:49 So they came into the land of Egypt, 07:51 for they obeyed not the voice of the Lord, 07:54 thus came they even to Tahpanhes. 07:58 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, 08:01 saying, Take great stones in thine hand, 08:04 and hide them in the clay in the brickkiln, 08:06 which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, 08:10 in the sight of the men of Judah, 08:12 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, 08:16 the God of Israel, 08:18 Behold, I will send 08:20 and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, 08:23 my servant, and will set his throne 08:26 upon these stones that I have hid, 08:28 and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them. 08:32 And when he cometh, 08:33 he shall smite the land of Egypt, 08:36 and deliver such as are for death to death, 08:38 and such as are for captivity to captivity, 08:41 and such as are for the sword to the sword. 08:45 And I will kindle a fire 08:46 in the houses of the gods of Egypt, 08:49 and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives, 08:52 and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, 08:55 as a shepherd putteth on his garment, 08:57 and he shall go forth from thence in peace. 09:01 He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, 09:04 that is in the land of Egypt, 09:05 and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians 09:08 shall he burn with fire. 09:11 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 44 09:13 and this is the King James Version. 09:17 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews 09:19 which dwell in the land of Egypt, 09:21 which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, 09:24 and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, 09:26 saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, 09:29 the God of Israel, Ye have seen all the evil 09:31 that I have brought upon Jerusalem, 09:33 and upon all the cities of Judah, 09:35 and, behold, this day they are a desolation, 09:37 and no man dwelleth therein, 09:39 Because of their wickedness which they have committed 09:42 to provoke me to anger, 09:44 in that they went to burn incense, 09:45 and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, 09:48 neither they, ye, nor your fathers. 09:52 Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, 09:55 rising early and sending them, 09:57 saying, oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate. 10:02 But they hearkened not, 10:04 nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, 10:08 to burn no incense unto other gods. 10:11 Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, 10:13 and was kindled in the cities of Judah 10:15 and in the streets of Jerusalem, 10:17 and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day. 10:21 Therefore now thus saith the Lord, 10:23 the God of hosts, the God of Israel, 10:25 Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, 10:30 to cut off from you man and woman, 10:31 child and suckling, out of Judah, 10:33 to leave you none to remain, 10:35 In that ye provoke me unto wrath 10:37 with the works of your hands, 10:39 burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, 10:41 whither ye be gone to dwell, 10:43 that ye might cut yourselves off, 10:45 and that ye might be a curse 10:46 and a reproach among all the nations of the earth? 10:50 Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, 10:52 and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, 10:55 and the wickedness of their wives, 10:56 and your own wickedness, 10:58 and the wickedness of your wives, 10:59 which they have committed in the land of Judah, 11:01 and in the streets of Jerusalem? 11:03 They are not humbled even unto this day, 11:06 neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, 11:09 nor in my statutes, that I set before you 11:12 and before your fathers. 11:14 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, 11:18 Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, 11:21 and to cut off all Judah. 11:24 And I will take the remnant of Judah, 11:25 that have set their faces 11:27 to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, 11:29 and they shall all be consumed, 11:31 and fall in the land of Egypt, 11:34 they shall even be consumed by the sword 11:36 and by the famine, they shall die, 11:38 from the least even unto the greatest, 11:40 by the sword and by the famine, 11:43 and they shall be an execration, 11:44 and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach. 11:49 For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, 11:51 as I have punished Jerusalem, 11:53 by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, 11:56 So that none of the remnant of Judah, 11:57 which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, 12:00 shall escape or remain, 12:03 that they should return into the land of Judah, 12:06 to the which they have a desire 12:07 to return to dwell there, for none shall return 12:10 but such as shall escape. 12:13 Then all the men which knew 12:14 that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, 12:17 and all the women that stood by, 12:19 a great multitude, even all the people 12:21 that dwelt in the land of Egypt, 12:23 in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, 12:26 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us 12:29 in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken unto thee. 12:32 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth 12:36 out of our own mouth, 12:37 to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, 12:39 and to pour out drink offerings unto her, 12:42 as we have done, we, and our fathers, 12:44 our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, 12:47 and in the streets of Jerusalem, 12:48 and then had we plenty of victuals, 12:50 and were well, and saw no evil. 12:53 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, 12:56 and to pour out drink offerings unto her, 12:57 we have wanted all things, 12:59 and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. 13:02 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, 13:04 and poured out drink offerings unto her, 13:05 did we make her cakes to worship her, 13:08 and pour out drink offerings unto her, 13:10 without our men? 13:12 Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, 13:15 to the men, and to the women, 13:16 and to all the people which had given him that answer, 13:19 saying, The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, 13:23 and in the streets of Jerusalem, 13:24 ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, 13:27 and the people of the land, 13:29 did not the Lord remember them, 13:32 and came it not into his mind? 13:35 So that the Lord could no longer bear, 13:38 because of the evil of your doings, 13:41 and because of the abominations 13:43 which ye have committed, 13:44 therefore is your land desolation, 13:48 and an astonishment, and a curse, 13:50 without an inhabitant, as at this day. 13:54 Because ye have burned incense, 13:55 and because ye have sinned against the Lord, 13:57 and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, 14:00 nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, 14:02 nor in his testimonies, 14:04 therefore this evil is happened unto you, 14:07 as at this day. 14:09 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, 14:11 and to all the women, Hear the word of the Lord, 14:14 all Judah that are in the land of Egypt, 14:17 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, 14:20 Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, 14:24 and fulfilled with your hand, saying, 14:27 We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, 14:29 to burn incense to the queen of heaven, 14:31 and to pour out drink offerings unto her, 14:34 ye will surely accomplish your vows, 14:36 and surely perform your vows. |
