00:15 Hello and welcome, to "His Words are Life. "
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today 00:19 we are going to be reading 00:20 together in the Book of Jeremiah. 00:22 But let's pray together before we start. 00:25 Dear Heavenly Father, 00:26 please be with us in these next few minutes 00:30 as we hear your words. 00:32 May they give us encouragement. 00:34 May they give us strength. 00:36 May they teach us to walk more closely with you. 00:38 We love you so much 00:40 and thank you for loving us. Amen. 00:43 I'm reading in Jeremiah Chapter 50 00:46 beginning with verse 27, 00:48 and this is the King James Version. 00:51 Slay all her bullocks, 00:53 let them go down to the slaughter, woe unto them. 00:57 For their day is come, the time of their visitation. 01:00 The voice of them that flee 01:02 and escape out of the land of Babylon, 01:04 to declare in Zion 01:05 the vengeance of the Lord our God, 01:07 the vengeance of his temple. 01:09 Call together the archers against Babylon, 01:12 all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about, 01:15 let none thereof escape, 01:17 recompense her according to her work, 01:19 according to all that she hath done, 01:21 do unto her, for she hath been proud against the Lord, 01:25 against the Holy One of Israel. 01:28 Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, 01:30 and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, 01:32 saith the Lord. Behold, I am against thee, 01:36 O thou most proud, saith the Lord God of hosts, 01:39 for thy day is come, 01:41 the time that I will visit thee. 01:43 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, 01:45 and none shall raise him up, 01:46 and I will kindle a fire in his cities, 01:48 and it shall devour all round about him. 01:51 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the children of Israel 01:54 and the children of Judah were oppressed together, 01:56 and all that took them captives held them fast, 01:59 they refused to let them go. 02:02 Their redeemer is strong, the Lord of hosts is his name, 02:06 he shall thoroughly plead their cause, 02:08 that he may give rest to the land, 02:10 and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon. 02:13 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the Lord, 02:16 and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, 02:18 and upon her princes, and upon her wise men. 02:20 A sword is upon the liars, and they shall dote, 02:23 a sword is upon her mighty men, 02:26 and they shall be dismayed. 02:28 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, 02:31 and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her, 02:34 and they shall become as women, 02:37 a sword is upon her treasures, and they shall be robbed. 02:41 A drought is upon her waters, and they shall be dried up, 02:45 for it is the land of graven images, 02:47 and they are mad upon their idols. 02:49 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert 02:52 with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, 02:55 and the owls shall dwell therein, 02:57 and it shall be no more inhabited forever, 03:00 neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation. 03:05 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah 03:08 and the neighbor cities thereof, 03:09 saith the Lord, so shall no man abide there, 03:13 neither shall any son of man dwell therein. 03:16 Behold, a people shall come from the north, 03:19 and a great nation, and many kings 03:21 shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. 03:24 They shall hold the bow and the lance, 03:27 they are cruel, and will not show mercy, 03:30 their voice shall roar like the sea, 03:32 and they shall ride upon horses, 03:34 every one put in array, like a man to the battle, 03:36 against thee, O daughter of Babylon. 03:39 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, 03:41 and his hands waxed feeble, anguish took hold of him, 03:45 and pangs as of a woman in travail. 03:48 Behold, he shall come up like a lion 03:49 from the swelling of Jordan 03:51 unto the habitation of the strong, 03:54 but I will make them suddenly run away from her, 03:56 and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? 03:59 For who is like me? 04:00 And who will appoint me the time? 04:02 And who is that shepherd that will stand before me? 04:06 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, 04:08 that he hath taken against Babylon, 04:10 and his purposes, that he hath purposed 04:13 against the land of the Chaldeans. 04:15 Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out, 04:18 surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them. 04:21 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, 04:25 and the cry is heard among the nations. 04:28 Reading from Jeremiah Chapter 51 04:31 and this is the King James Version. 04:33 Thus saith the Lord, 04:35 Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, 04:38 and against them that dwell in the midst of them 04:41 that rise up against me, a destroying wind, 04:44 And will send unto Babylon fanners, 04:47 that shall fan her, and shall empty her land, 04:49 for in the day of trouble they shall be 04:51 against her round about. 04:53 Against him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, 04:56 and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine, 05:00 and spare ye not her young men, 05:01 destroy ye utterly all her host. 05:04 Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, 05:07 and they that are thrust through in her streets. 05:11 For Israel hath not been forsaken, 05:13 nor Judah of his God, of the Lord of hosts, 05:17 though their land was filled with sin 05:18 against the Holy One of Israel. 05:20 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, 05:22 and deliver every man his soul, 05:24 be not cut off in her iniquity, 05:26 for this is the time of the Lord's vengeance, 05:29 he will render unto her a recompense. 05:33 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord's hand, 05:36 that made all the earth drunken, 05:38 the nations have drunken of her wine, 05:40 therefore the nations are mad. 05:42 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed, 05:46 howl for her, take balm for her pain, 05:50 if so be she may be healed. 05:52 We would have healed Babylon, 05:54 but she is not healed, forsake her, 05:56 and let us go every one into his own country, 05:59 for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, 06:01 and is lifted up even to the skies. 06:03 The Lord hath brought forth our righteousness, 06:06 come, and let us declare in Zion 06:08 the work of the Lord our God. 06:11 Make bright the arrows, gather the shields, 06:14 the Lord hath raised up 06:15 the spirit of the kings of the Medes, 06:17 for his device is against Babylon, to destroy it, 06:20 because it is the vengeance of the Lord, 06:22 the vengeance of his temple. 06:24 Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, 06:27 make the watch strong, 06:29 set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes, 06:31 for the Lord hath both devised 06:33 and done that which he spake 06:35 against the inhabitants of Babylon. 06:37 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, 06:40 abundant in treasures, thine end is come, 06:44 and the measure of thy covetousness. 06:46 The Lord of hosts hath sworn by himself, 06:48 saying, surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillars, 06:52 and they shall lift up a shout against thee. 06:55 He hath made the earth by his power, 06:57 he hath established the world by his wisdom, 07:00 and hath stretched out the heave by his understanding. 07:03 When he uttereth his voice, 07:04 there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, 07:07 and he causeth the vapours 07:08 to ascend from the ends of the earth, 07:11 he maketh lightnings with rain, 07:13 and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures. 07:16 Every man is brutish by his knowledge, 07:19 every founder is confounded by the graven image, 07:23 for his molten image is falsehood, 07:26 and there is no breath in them. 07:28 They are vanity, the work of errors, 07:31 in the time of their visitation they shall perish. 07:35 The portion of Jacob is not like them, 07:38 for he is the former of all things, 07:40 and Israel is the rod of his inheritance, 07:42 the Lord of hosts is his name. 07:46 Thou art my battle ax and weapons of war, 07:49 for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, 07:51 and with thee will I destroy kingdoms, 07:54 And with thee will I break in pieces 07:55 the horse and his rider, 07:57 and with thee will I break in pieces 07:59 the chariot and his rider, 08:02 With thee also will I break in pieces 08:04 man and woman, and with thee 08:05 will I break in pieces old and young, 08:07 and with thee will I break in pieces 08:08 the young man and the maid, 08:10 I will also break in pieces 08:11 with thee the shepherd and his flock, 08:13 and with thee will I break in pieces 08:15 the husbandman and his yoke of oxen, 08:17 and with thee will I break in pieces 08:19 captains and rulers. 08:21 And I will render unto Babylon 08:23 and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil 08:27 that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the Lord. 08:32 Behold, I am against thee, 08:33 O destroying mountain, saith the Lord, 08:36 which destroyest all the earth, 08:38 and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, 08:40 and roll thee down from the rocks, 08:43 and will make thee a burnt mountain. 08:45 And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, 08:48 nor a stone for foundations, 08:51 but thou shalt be desolate forever, saith the Lord. 08:55 Set ye up a standard in the land, 08:57 blow the trumpet among the nations, 08:59 prepare the nations against her, 09:01 call together against her the kingdoms 09:03 of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz, 09:07 appoint a captain against her, 09:08 cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillars. 09:11 Prepare against her the nations 09:13 with the kings of the Medes, 09:14 the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, 09:17 and all the land of his dominion. 09:20 And the land shall tremble and sorrow, 09:23 for every purpose of the Lord 09:25 shall be performed against Babylon, 09:27 to make the land of Babylon 09:29 a desolation without an inhabitant. 09:32 The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, 09:35 they have remained in their holds, 09:37 their might hath failed, they became as women, 09:40 they have burned her dwelling places, 09:42 her bars are broken. 09:44 One post shall run to meet another, 09:47 and one messenger to meet another, 09:49 to show the king of Babylon 09:50 that his city is taken at one end, 09:53 and that the passages are stopped, 09:55 and the reeds they have burned with fire, 09:57 and the men of war are affrighted. 10:00 For thus saith the Lord of hosts, 10:02 the God of Israel, 10:03 the daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor, 10:06 it is time to thresh her, yet a little while, 10:09 and the time of her harvest shall come. 10:12 Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon 10:14 hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, 10:17 he hath made me an empty vessel, 10:20 he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, 10:22 he hath filled his belly with my delicates, 10:24 he hath cast me out. 10:27 The violence done to me 10:28 and to my flesh be upon Babylon, 10:31 shall the inhabitant of Zion say, 10:33 and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, 10:36 shall Jerusalem say. 10:38 Therefore thus saith the Lord, 10:39 Behold, I will plead thy cause, 10:41 and take vengeance for thee, 10:44 and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry. 10:47 And Babylon shall become heaps, 10:50 a dwelling place for dragons, 10:51 an astonishment, and an hissing, 10:53 without an inhabitant. 10:55 They shall roar together like lions, 10:56 they shall yell as lions' whelps. 10:59 In their heat I will make their feasts, 11:01 and I will make them drunken, 11:03 that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, 11:06 and not wake, saith the Lord. 11:08 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, 11:11 like rams with he goats. How is Sheshach taken? 11:16 And how is the praise of the whole earth surprised? 11:18 How is Babylon become an astonishment 11:21 among the nations? 11:22 The sea is come up upon Babylon, 11:24 she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof. 11:27 Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, 11:32 a land wherein no man dwelleth, 11:34 neither doth any son of man pass thereby. 11:38 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, 11:41 and I will bring forth out of his mouth 11:42 that which he hath swallowed up, 11:44 and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him, 11:47 yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall. 11:51 My people, go ye out of the midst of her, 11:53 and deliver ye every man his soul 11:55 from the fierce anger of the Lord. 11:57 And lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumor 12:00 that shall be heard in the land, 12:01 a rumor shall both come one year, 12:03 and after that in another year shall come a rumor, 12:05 and violence in the land, ruler against ruler. 12:09 Therefore, behold, the days come, 12:10 that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon, 12:14 and her whole land shall be confounded, 12:16 and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her. 12:20 Then the heaven and the earth, 12:21 and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon, 12:24 for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, 12:26 saith the Lord. 12:28 As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, 12:31 so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth. 12:36 Ye that have escaped the sword, go away, 12:38 stand not still, remember the Lord afar off, 12:41 and let Jerusalem come into your mind. 12:43 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach, 12:46 shame hath covered our faces, for strangers are come 12:50 into the sanctuaries of the Lord's house. 12:52 Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, 12:55 that I will do judgment upon her graven images, 12:58 and through all her land the wounded shall groan. 13:02 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, 13:05 and though she should fortify the height of her strength, 13:08 yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the Lord. 13:13 A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, 13:16 and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans 13:20 because the LORD hath spoiled Babylon, 13:21 and destroyed out of her the great voice, 13:23 when her waves do roar like great waters, 13:26 a noise of their voice is uttered. 13:28 Because the spoiler is come upon her, 13:30 even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, 13:33 every one of their bows is broken, 13:36 for the Lord God of recompenses 13:38 shall surely requite. 13:40 And I will make drunk her princes, 13:42 and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, 13:45 and her mighty men, 13:46 and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, 13:48 and not wake, saith the King, 13:50 whose name is the Lord of hosts. 13:53 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, 13:54 the broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, 13:58 and her high gates shall be burned with fire, 14:00 and the people shall labor in vain, 14:02 and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary. 14:06 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded 14:09 Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, 14:12 when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah 14:14 into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. 14:17 And this Seraiah was a quiet prince. 14:20 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil 14:23 that should come upon Babylon, even all these words 14:26 that are written against Babylon. 14:29 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, when thou comest to Babylon, 14:32 and shalt see, and shalt read all these words, 14:36 Then shalt thou say, 14:37 O Lord, thou hast spoken against this place. |
