00:15 Hello and welcome to His words are Life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today 00:19 we will be reading together from the Book of Amos. 00:22 But first let's pray. 00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you 00:26 that while we were caught in the chains of inequity 00:32 and bowed down with the weight of guilt, 00:33 You set us free and You redeemed us unto yourself. 00:37 Please teach us your ways today, 00:39 I ask in name of Jesus, amen. 00:43 Picking up at Amos Chapter 5 with verse 18 00:46 and this is the King James Version. 00:49 Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord 00:53 to what end is it for you? 00:56 The day of the Lord is darkness, and not light. 00:59 As if a man did flee from a lion, 01:01 and a bear met him, or went into the house, 01:04 and leaned his hand on the wall, 01:06 and a serpent bit him. 01:08 Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? 01:12 Even very dark, and no brightness in it? 01:16 I hate, I despise your feast days, 01:19 and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. 01:21 Though all of you offer me burnt offerings 01:23 and your meat offerings, 01:25 I will not accept them, neither will I regard 01:27 the peace offerings of your fat beasts. 01:30 Take you away from me the noise of your songs, 01:34 for I will not hear the melody of your viols. 01:37 But let judgment run down as waters, 01:40 and righteousness as a mighty stream. 01:43 Have all of you offered unto me 01:44 sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, 01:47 O house of Israel? 01:49 But all of you have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch 01:52 and Chiun your images, the star of your God, 01:56 which all of you made to yourselves. 01:58 Therefore will I cause you to go 02:01 into captivity beyond Damascus, 02:03 saith the Lord, whose name is The God of hosts. 02:08 Continuing with Amos Chapter 6. 02:11 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, 02:14 and trust in the mountain of Samaria, 02:17 which are named chief of the nations, 02:20 to whom the house of Israel came. 02:22 Pass all of you unto Calneh, and see, 02:24 and from thence go all of you to Hamath the great, 02:27 then go down to Gath of the Philistines. 02:30 Be they better than these kingdoms? 02:33 or their border greater than your border? 02:36 Ye that put far away the evil day, 02:38 and cause the seat of violence to come near. 02:41 That lie upon beds of ivory, 02:43 and stretch themselves upon their couches, 02:45 and eat the lambs out of the flock, 02:47 and the calves out of the midst of the stall, 02:50 That chant to the sound of the viol, 02:53 and invent to themselves instruments of music, 02:55 like David, that drink wine in bowls, 02:59 and anoint themselves with the chief ointments, 03:02 but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. 03:06 Therefore now shall they go captive 03:08 with the first that go captive, 03:11 and the banquet of them 03:12 that stretched themselves shall be removed. 03:16 The Lord God has sworn by himself, 03:19 saith the Lord the God of hosts, 03:21 I abhor the excellency of Jacob, 03:24 and hate his palaces, therefore will I deliver up 03:27 the city with all that is therein. 03:30 And it shall come to pass, 03:31 if there remain ten men in one house, 03:34 that they shall die. 03:36 And a man's uncle shall take him up, 03:38 and he that burneth him, 03:39 to bring out the bones out of the house, 03:41 and shall say unto him 03:42 that is by the sides of the house, 03:44 Is there yet any with thee? 03:46 and he shall say, No. 03:48 Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue, 03:50 for we may not make mention of the name of the Lord. 03:53 For, behold, the Lord commandeth, 03:55 and he will smite the great house with breaches, 03:58 and the little house with clefts. 04:01 Shall horses run upon the rock? 04:04 Will one plow there with oxen? 04:06 For ye have turned judgment into gall, 04:09 and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock. 04:12 Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, 04:16 Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength? 04:20 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, 04:24 O house of Israel, 04:25 saith the Lord the God of hosts, 04:28 and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath 04:31 unto the river of the wilderness. 04:35 Continuing in the Book Of Amos Chapter 7 04:38 and this is the King James Version. 04:42 Thus has the Lord God showed unto me, 04:45 and, behold, he formed grasshoppers 04:47 in the beginning of the shooting up 04:49 of the latter growth, and, lo, 04:50 it was the latter growth after the king's mowings. 04:53 And it came to pass, 04:54 that when they had made an end of eating 04:57 the grass of the land, 04:59 then I said, O Lord God, 05:02 forgive, I beseech thee, 05:04 by whom shall Jacob arise? 05:07 For he is small. 05:10 The Lord repented for this, 05:12 It shall not be, saith the Lord. 05:15 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me, 05:17 and, behold, the Lord God called to contend by fire, 05:21 and it devoured the great deep, 05:23 and did eat up a part. 05:25 Then said I, O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee, 05:29 By whom shall Jacob arise? 05:31 For he is small. 05:33 The Lord repented for this, 05:36 This also shall not be, saith the Lord God. 05:39 Thus he shewed me, and, behold, 05:42 the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, 05:47 with a plumbline in his hand. 05:49 And the Lord said unto me, 05:51 Amos, what seest thou? 05:53 And I said, a plumbline. 05:57 Then said the Lord, Behold, 05:59 I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel, 06:03 I will not again pass by them any more. 06:06 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, 06:08 and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste, 06:10 and I will rise against the house 06:11 of Jeroboam with the sword. 06:14 Amaziah the priest of Bethel 06:16 sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, 06:19 Amos hath conspired against thee 06:20 in the midst of the house of Israel, 06:22 the land is not able to bear all his words. 06:25 For thus Amos saith, 06:26 Jeroboam shall die by the sword, 06:28 and Israel shall surely be led away captive 06:30 out of their own land. 06:32 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, 06:35 O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, 06:39 and there eat bread, and prophesy there, 06:42 But prophesy not again any more at Bethel, 06:45 for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court. 06:49 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, 06:53 I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son, 06:57 but I was an herdman, 06:59 and a gatherer of sycomore fruit, 07:02 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, 07:05 and the Lord said unto me, 07:06 Go, prophesy unto my people Israel. 07:11 Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord, 07:15 Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, 07:18 and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac. 07:22 Therefore thus saith the Lord, 07:25 Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, 07:27 and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, 07:31 and thy land shall be divided by line, 07:34 and thou shalt die in a polluted land, 07:37 and Israel shall surely go into captivity 07:41 forth of his land. 07:44 Continuing in Amos Chapter 8, 07:47 this is the King James Version. 07:50 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me, 07:53 and behold a basket of summer fruit. 07:56 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? 08:00 And I said, A basket of summer fruit. 08:04 Then said the Lord unto me, 08:06 The end is come upon my people of Israel, 08:09 I will not again pass by them any more. 08:12 And the songs of the temple shall be howlings 08:15 in that day, saith the Lord God, 08:16 there shall be many dead bodies in every place, 08:19 they shall cast them forth with silence. 08:22 Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, 08:25 even to make the poor of the land to fail, Saying, 08:28 when will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? 08:32 and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, 08:34 making the ephah small, and the shekel great, 08:38 and falsifying the balances by deceit? 08:42 That we may buy the poor for silver, 08:44 and the needy for a pair of shoes, 08:46 yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat? 08:50 The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, 08:53 surely I will never forget any of their works. 08:58 Shall not the land tremble for this, 09:00 and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? 09:04 and it shall rise up wholly as a flood, 09:06 and it shall be cast out and drowned, 09:08 as by the flood of Egypt. 09:10 And it shall come to pass in that day, 09:12 saith the Lord God, 09:14 that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, 09:17 and I will darken the earth in the clear day, 09:19 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, 09:21 and all your songs into lamentation, 09:24 and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, 09:27 and baldness upon every head, 09:29 and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, 09:33 and the end thereof as a bitter day. 09:36 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, 09:39 that I will send a famine in the land, 09:41 not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, 09:46 but of hearing the words of the Lord, 09:49 And they shall wander from sea to sea, 09:52 and from the north even to the east, 09:54 they shall run to and from to seek 09:57 the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. 10:01 In that day shall the fair virgins 10:04 and young men faint for thirst. 10:07 They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, 10:10 Thy God, O Dan, liveth, and, 10:12 The manner of Beersheba liveth, 10:15 even they shall fall, and never rise up again. 10:19 Continuing in Amos Chapter 9, 10:21 this is the King James Version. 10:25 I saw the Lord standing upon the altar, 10:29 and he said, Smite the lintel of the door, 10:32 that the posts may shake, 10:33 and cut them in the head, all of them. 10:35 And I will slay the last of them with the sword, 10:38 he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, 10:40 and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered. 10:43 Though they dig into hell, 10:45 thence shall mine hand take them, 10:48 though they climb up to heaven, 10:50 thence will I bring them down. 10:52 And though they hide themselves 10:54 in the top of Carmel, 10:55 I will search and take them out thence, 10:58 and though they be hid from my sight 11:00 in the bottom of the sea, 11:02 thence will I command the serpent, 11:05 and he shall bite them. 11:07 And though they go into captivity before their enemies, 11:10 thence will I command the sword, 11:12 and it shall slay them, 11:13 and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, 11:15 and not for good. 11:17 And the Lord God of hosts is he that toucheth the land, 11:20 and it shall melt, 11:22 and all that dwell therein shall mourn, 11:25 and it shall rise up wholly like a flood, 11:27 and shall be drowned, as by the flood of Egypt. 11:30 It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, 11:33 and hath founded his troop in the earth, 11:35 he that calleth for the waters of the sea, 11:37 and poureth them out upon the face of the earth, 11:39 The Lord is his name. 11:43 Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, 11:46 O children of Israel? 11:47 Saith the Lord. 11:48 Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? 11:52 And the Philistines from Caphtor, 11:54 and the Syrians from Kir? 11:57 Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are upon 12:00 the sinful kingdom, 12:01 and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth, 12:05 saving that I will not utterly destroy 12:07 the house of Jacob, saith the Lord. 12:10 For, lo, I will command, 12:11 and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, 12:14 like as corn is sifted in a sieve, 12:17 yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. 12:23 All the sinners of my people shall die 12:25 by the sword, which say, 12:27 The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us. 12:31 In that day will I raise up 12:33 the tabernacle of David that is fallen, 12:35 and close up the breaches thereof, 12:37 and I will raise up his ruins, 12:39 and I will build it as in the days of old. 12:42 That they may possess the remnant of Edom, 12:45 and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, 12:49 saith the Lord that doeth this. 12:51 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, 12:53 that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, 12:56 and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed, 13:00 and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, 13:03 and all the hills shall melt. 13:05 And I will bring again the captivity 13:07 of my people of Israel, and they shall build 13:09 the waste cities, and inhabit them, 13:11 and they shall plant vineyards, 13:12 and drink the wine thereof, 13:14 they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 13:17 And I will plant them upon their land, 13:19 and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land 13:22 which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God. 13:28 Continuing in the Book of Obadiah, 13:30 this is the King James Version. 13:33 The vision of Obadiah. 13:35 Thus saith the Lord God concerning Edom, 13:39 We have heard a rumour from the Lord, 13:41 and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, 13:44 arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle. 13:49 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen, 13:52 thou art greatly despised. 13:55 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, 13:58 thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, 14:01 whose habitation is high, that saith in his heart. 14:04 Who shall bring me down to the ground? 14:07 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, 14:10 and though thou set thy nest among the stars, 14:13 thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord. 14:16 If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, 14:19 how art thou cut off. 14:21 Would they not have stolen till they had enough? 14:24 If the grapegatherers came to thee, 14:26 Would they not leave some grapes? 14:29 How are the things of Esau searched out. 14:32 How are his hidden things sought up. 14:36 Please join me again next time 14:37 to read the word of God. Goodbye. |
