00:15 Hello and welcome to His words are life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today 00:19 we will be reading together from the Book of Obadiah 00:22 But first let's pray. 00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much 00:26 for this opportunity to step apart from everything 00:30 that maybe going on in our day 00:32 and to spend few minutes with you 00:35 listening to Your words. 00:36 Please send Your Holy Spirit to be with us 00:38 now in a special way as we read. 00:40 We love You so much and thank You for loving us, amen. 00:45 Reading in the Book of Obadiah 00:47 Chapter 1 and starting with verse 7 00:50 and this is the King James Version. 00:53 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee 00:57 even to the border, the men 00:58 that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, 01:02 and prevailed against thee, 01:04 they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee, 01:08 there is none understanding in him. 01:11 Shall I not in that day, saith the Lord, 01:14 even destroy the wise men out of Edom, 01:17 and understanding out of the mount of Esau? 01:21 And thy mighty men, 01:22 O Teman, shall be dismayed, 01:24 to the end that everyone of the mount of Esau 01:27 may be cut off by slaughter. 01:30 For thy violence against thy brother Jacob 01:33 shame shall cover thee, 01:35 and thou shalt be cut off for ever. 01:38 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, 01:41 in the day that the strangers 01:43 carried away captive his forces, 01:46 and foreigners entered into his gates, 01:48 and cast lots upon Jerusalem, 01:51 even thou wast as one of them. 01:55 But thou shouldest not have looked on the day 01:57 of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger, 02:00 neither shouldest thou have rejoiced 02:02 over the children of Judah 02:04 in the day of their destruction, 02:06 neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly 02:08 in the day of distress. 02:11 Thou shouldest not have entered 02:12 into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity, 02:15 yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction 02:18 in the day of their calamity, 02:20 nor have laid hands on their substance 02:22 in the day of their calamity, 02:24 neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, 02:26 to cut off those of his that did escape, 02:30 neither shouldest thou have delivered up 02:32 those of his that did remain in the day of distress. 02:36 For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen, 02:41 as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee, 02:44 thy reward shall return upon thine own head. 02:48 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, 02:52 so shall all the heathen drink continually, 02:55 yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, 02:58 and they shall be as though they had not been. 03:02 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, 03:06 and there shall be holiness, 03:08 and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. 03:13 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, 03:15 and the house of Joseph a flame, 03:17 and the house of Esau for stubble, 03:20 and they shall kindle in them, and devour them, 03:22 and there shall not be any remaining 03:24 of the house of Esau, for the Lord hath spoken it. 03:29 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau, 03:33 and they of the plain the Philistines, 03:35 and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, 03:38 and the fields of Samaria, 03:39 and Benjamin shall possess Gilead. 03:43 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel 03:47 shall possess that of the Canaanites, 03:49 even unto Zarephath, 03:51 and the captivity of Jerusalem, 03:53 which is in Sepharad, 03:55 shall possess the cities of the south. 03:58 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion 04:01 to judge the mount of Esau, 04:04 and the kingdom shall be the Lord's. 04:08 Continuing now in the Book of Jonah 04:11 and this is the King James Version. 04:15 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah 04:17 the son of Amittai, saying, 04:20 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, 04:23 and cry against it, 04:24 for their wickedness is come up before me. 04:28 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish 04:31 from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa, 04:34 and he found a ship going to Tarshish, 04:36 so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, 04:39 to go with them unto Tarshish 04:41 from the presence of the Lord. 04:43 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, 04:47 and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, 04:49 so that the ship was like to be broken. 04:52 Then the mariners were afraid, 04:54 and cried every man unto his god, 04:56 and cast forth the wares 04:58 that were in the ship into the sea, 05:01 to lighten it of them. 05:03 But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship, 05:06 and he lay, and was fast asleep. 05:10 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, 05:14 what meanest thou, O sleeper? 05:16 Arise, call upon thy God, 05:18 if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not. 05:23 And they said every one to his fellow, 05:25 come, and let us cast lots, 05:27 that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. 05:32 So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah. 05:37 Then said they unto him, 05:39 Tell us, we pray thee, 05:40 for whose cause this evil is upon us, 05:43 what is thine occupation? 05:44 And whence comest thou? 05:46 What is thy country? 05:48 And of what people art thou? 05:51 And he said unto them, 05:53 I am an Hebrew, and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, 05:57 which hath made the sea and the dry land. 06:01 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, 06:03 and said unto him, 06:04 why hast thou done this? 06:07 For the men knew that he fled 06:09 from the presence of the Lord, 06:10 because he had told them. 06:13 Then said they unto him, what shall we do unto thee, 06:16 that the sea may be calm unto us? 06:19 For the sea wrought, and was tempestuous. 06:23 And he said unto them, take me up, 06:25 and cast me forth into the sea, 06:28 so shall the sea be calm unto you, 06:31 for I know that for my sake 06:34 this great tempest is upon you. 06:36 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land, 06:41 but they could not, for the sea wrought, 06:44 and was tempestuous against them. 06:47 Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, 06:48 and said, we beseech thee, 06:50 O Lord, we beseech thee, 06:52 let us not perish for this man's life, 06:56 and lay not upon us innocent blood, 06:59 for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee. 07:04 So they took up Jonah, 07:06 and cast him forth into the sea, 07:08 and the sea ceased from her raging. 07:12 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, 07:15 and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows. 07:18 Now the Lord had prepared 07:20 a great fish to swallow up Jonah. 07:24 And Jonah was in the belly of the fish 07:27 three days and three nights. 07:30 Continuing the story of Jonah in Chapter 2, 07:34 this is the King James Version. 07:37 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God 07:41 out of the fish's belly, 07:42 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction 07:47 unto the Lord, and he heard me, 07:51 out of the belly of hell cried I, 07:53 and thou heardest my voice. 07:55 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, 07:58 in the midst of the seas, 07:59 and the floods compassed me about, 08:03 all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. 08:07 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight, 08:11 yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. 08:16 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul, 08:19 the depth closed me round about, 08:21 the weeds were wrapped about my head. 08:24 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains, 08:27 the earth with her bars was about me for ever, 08:31 yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, 08:35 O Lord my God. 08:38 When my soul fainted within me 08:41 I remembered the Lord, 08:42 and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. 08:48 They that observe lying vanities 08:51 forsake their own mercy. 08:53 But I will sacrifice unto thee 08:56 with the voice of thanksgiving, 08:57 I will pay that I have vowed. 09:00 Salvation is of the Lord. 09:04 And the Lord spake unto the fish, 09:06 and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. 09:10 Continuing in Jonah Chapter 3, 09:12 and this is the King James Version. 09:16 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah 09:18 the second time, saying, 09:20 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, 09:23 and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. 09:28 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, 09:30 according to the word of the Lord. 09:32 Now Nineveh was an exceeding 09:34 great city of three days' journey. 09:38 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, 09:42 and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, 09:45 and Nineveh shall be overthrown. 09:47 So the people of Nineveh believed God, 09:51 and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, 09:55 from the greatest of them even to the least of them. 09:59 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, 10:00 and he arose from his throne, 10:02 and he laid his robe from him, 10:04 and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 10:07 And he caused it to be proclaimed 10:09 and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king 10:12 and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, 10:17 herd nor flock, taste any thing, 10:20 let them not feed, nor drink water, 10:23 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, 10:26 and cry mightily unto God, 10:29 yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, 10:33 and from the violence that is in their hands. 10:36 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, 10:39 and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? 10:45 And God saw their works, 10:47 that they turned from their evil way, 10:50 and God repented of the evil, 10:52 that he had said that he would do unto them, 10:55 and he did it not. 10:58 Continuing in Jonah Chapter 4, 11:00 and this is the King James Version. 11:03 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, 11:07 and he was very angry. 11:09 And he prayed unto the Lord, 11:10 and said, I pray thee, O Lord, 11:13 was not this my saying, 11:15 when I was yet in my country? 11:17 Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish, 11:20 for I knew that thou art a gracious God, 11:22 and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, 11:26 and repentest thee of the evil. 11:28 Therefore now, O Lord, take, 11:31 I beseech thee, my life from me, 11:34 for it is better for me to die than to live. 11:39 Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be angry? 11:45 So Jonah went out of the city, 11:46 and sat on the east side of the city, 11:49 and there made him a booth, 11:51 and sat under it in the shadow, 11:53 till he might see what would become of the city. 11:58 And the Lord God prepared a gourd, 12:00 and made it to come up over Jonah, 12:03 that it might be a shadow over his head, 12:05 to deliver him from his grief. 12:08 So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd. 12:12 But God prepared a worm 12:13 when the morning rose the next day, 12:16 and it smote the gourd that it withered. 12:19 And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, 12:23 that God prepared a vehement east wind, 12:26 and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, 12:29 that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, 12:32 and said, it is better for me to die than to live. 12:36 And God said to Jonah, 12:38 Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? 12:42 And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death. 12:47 Then said the Lord, 12:49 Thou hast had pity on the gourd, 12:51 for the which thou hast not laboured, 12:54 neither madest it grow, which came up in a night, 12:57 and perished in a night. 12:59 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, 13:04 wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons 13:09 that cannot discern between their right hand 13:12 and their left hand, and also much cattle? 13:18 Continuing in the Book of Micah Chapter 1, 13:21 and this is the King James Version. 13:24 The word of the Lord that came to Micah 13:26 the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, 13:29 Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, 13:32 which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. 13:36 Hear, all ye people, hearken, O earth, 13:39 and all that therein is, 13:41 and let the Lord God be witness against you, 13:44 the Lord from his holy temple. 13:47 For, behold, the Lord cometh forth out of his place, 13:51 and will come down, 13:53 and tread upon the high places of the earth. 13:56 And the mountains shall be molten under him, 13:59 and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, 14:03 and as the waters that are poured down a steep place. 14:07 For the transgression of Jacob is all this, 14:10 and for the sins of the house of Israel. 14:13 What is the transgression of Jacob? 14:15 Is it not Samaria? 14:17 and what are the high place of Judah? 14:19 Are they not Jerusalem? 14:22 Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, 14:25 and as plantings of a vineyard, 14:27 and I will pour down the stones 14:30 thereof into the valley, 14:32 and I will discover the foundations thereof. 14:36 Please join me again next time 14:37 to continue reading the word of God together. Goodbye. |
