03:57 Yes, he is! 03:59 You'll read in the Bible that there's a very real devil. 04:02 The Bible is unambiguous about that. 04:05 Revelation chapter 12 talks in some detail about this 04:08 being, saying in verse 9, "So the great dragon was cast out 04:12 [that's out of heaven], that old serpent called the devil 04:16 and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world...." 04:19 Notice here, not only is the devil real, but he's referred 04:23 to as a dragon - a prophetic symbol that you'll find in 04:26 the book of Revelation - and he is referred to as the 04:29 serpent, referring to the way he tempted Adam and Eve in 04:32 the Garden of Eden. 04:34 Jesus referenced the devil Himself. 04:37 In John 8 Jesus referred to the devil as a liar, and the 04:40 father of lies. 04:42 Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness -you remember-, 04:45 and you might recall when Jesus was talking to Peter 04:48 and he rebuked him by saying, "Get behind me Satan," 04:52 in Matthew 16. 04:54 So yes, the devil is real. 04:56 He was once an angel who lived in the presence of God, 04:59 but filled with pride and selfishness he rebelled 05:02 against God and we evicted from heaven. 05:06 Satan is responsible for the evil that is in the world. 05:09 You know, so many people want to blame God for mayhem in 05:13 the world today, mayhem which is evidence of the evil that 05:18 exists in this world. 05:19 But here's what you need to know. 05:21 1 John 4:4, the Bible says, 05:25 "Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world." 05:29 The God of heaven is much more powerful than Satan. 05:32 The devil will tempt, yes he will. 05:35 God can deliver, and He will if you ask Him to. 05:39 There certainly is a devil. 05:40 But the really good news is, there really is a Saviour, 05:44 His name is Jesus. 05:45 And He will give new life to you and anybody else who 05:50 comes to Him in faith. 05:52 If you have a question you'd like answered, please go to 05:54 our website - www.ItIsWritten.com 05:58 and click on the questions tab. 06:00 Submit your question there , and in a future program you 06:03 may discover the answer your question. 06:06 ♪♪♪Music♪♪♪ If you have a question 06:09 for Pr. 07:44 Now here's where we must keep something in mind. 07:46 God isn't looking to do all He can to condemn people. 07:51 He's doing everything He can to SAVE people. 07:54 Most people are familiar with that famous verse John 3:16. 07:56 John 3:17 says this. 08:02 "For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the 08:08 world, but that the world through Him might be saved." 08:13 No, God didn't sent Jesus to the world to condemn us, but 08:16 for the purpose of seeing people saved from sin 08:19 and its penalty. 08:21 So what, then, is this judgment all about? 08:24 A 'good' person might say, "I am a good person and surely 08:28 judgment is for other people and not me." 08:31 Well, let's think about this. 08:32 In Matthew 7:21 Jesus says that there is going to come a 08:37 time when many people come to Him and say, "Lord, Lord, 08:38 haven't we done wonderful works in your name?" 08:42 They talk about having done such things as healing the sick 08:43 and working miracles - good things, for sure! 08:45 And yet Jesus surprises these people by saying, 08:46 "I never knew you!" 08:53 There's a question as to who they really are. 08:56 Maybe they HAD done SOME things in their lives that were 08:58 laudable. 09:00 But here, they run to Jesus and call Him 'Lord', while 09:04 Jesus knows what they're REALLY like. 09:06 They're pretenders. 09:08 Phonies. 09:10 There's a Bible story that illustrations this perfectly. 09:15 The children of Israel entered the promised land, 09:17 and not long after they're approached by a group of 09:19 people claiming to be from a distant country. 09:22 "We heard of you, and of your great God, and we traveled 09:25 a great distance to join ourselves to you 09:27 & be your servants. 09:29 And Joshua says, "Great! 09:31 Glad to have you on board. 09:32 Welcome to Canaan!" 09:34 And then, not too long afterward, it comes to light 09:37 that these people ARE NOT pilgrims from a distant 09:40 country - they're the Gibeonites, from very nearby 09:43 in Canaan. 09:45 They were enemies of God! 09:47 But Joshua never checked. 09:50 He took their word for it! 09:53 And so the Gibeonites became joined to God's people, and 09:55 even though a system was devised to make that work as 09:56 well as possible, it caused some real problems. 10:00 As much as God might like for everyone to be saved eternally, 10:05 He knows - and we know - that God cannot allow 10:09 a bunch of pretenders into His kingdom. 10:11 So, before eternity comes there's going to be a 10:14 judgment, a time when God can ascertain who really has 10:18 chosen Him genuinely, and a time when He can separate 10:21 out, if you like, those who really are not true believers 10:24 as they claim to be. 10:25 This isn't God trying to find out something He doesn't 10:27 already know. 10:29 This is much like an audit, if you like, where God reviews 10:33 the records, reviews the claims that people have made 10:37 and see how those claims stack up against reality. 10:40 Simple example: when you cross a border and enter another 10:43 country, you usually have to hand over some 10:46 identification and perhaps some documentation. 10:49 The last time I crossed into Canada from the United States, 10:52 I arrived at the border claiming I'm a trustworthy 10:55 guy, that I'm not there to cause trouble, and 10:58 that I'm wanting to go to Canada for legitimate reasons 11:00 and not to be a hindrance or a nuisance. 11:05 So, I hand over some documents, and then the 11:06 border guard asks me some questions. 11:08 "Why are you coming into Canada? 11:10 Why are you crossing the border at this time of night? 11:13 How long have you known that guy you're with and why are 11:15 you with him?" 11:16 Was it really necessary for the border guard to ask me 11:18 those questions? 11:21 Of course not! 11:22 He COULD have just TRUSTED me, right? 11:28 So why didn't he? 11:29 Why not just take my word for things? 11:30 Because, I might not have been telling the truth! 11:33 How does he know that I'm not trouble? 11:36 So he checks out my documents, looks at his 11:38 computer, asks me some questions, and then, when 11:41 he's satisfied I'm on the level and that I'm not a 11:43 threat to Canadian national security, he let's me into 11:46 the country. 11:47 That's really how the judgment works. 11:49 You've got a mass of people who claim that they're loyal 11:51 to God and won't pose a threat to the stability of 11:54 heaven. 11:55 Should we ask God to let those people into heaven 11:58 BASED ON THEIR WORD? 12:00 Or would it be slightly more responsible of God to look at 12:03 the documentation - the books of record - and perhaps do a 12:06 little investigating to see if Person A really is what he 12:09 or she claims to be? 12:11 And let's take that up a notch. 12:14 Not only is it important for that border guard to ensure 12:18 justice is done, it is also important that he BE SEEN to 12:23 ensure justice is done. 12:25 God could just wave a lot of people through and into the 12:28 kingdom knowing they're ok, but there's a universe 12:31 looking on - and it is vital that God Himself is not only 12:35 just, but that He is SEEN TO BE JUST in the process of 12:40 judging the world. 12:41 The Bible says in Romans 3:23, you might know this 12:44 verse, "...all have sinned, and come short of the glory 12:48 of God." KJV and then just a page or 12:50 so over, the Bible says, (Romans 6:23), "For the wages 12:55 of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life 12:57 through Jesus Christ our Lord." 13:01 So in the judgment process- in this auditing process - 13:06 God is looking to see whether we've really chosen his gift 13:08 of eternal life through Jesus, or, whether we've only 13:11 made some sort of hollow claim to God's grace. 13:14 God is asking the question, "Who, really, are you?" 13:20 It reminds me of that 70s song by The Who, who sang, 13:23 "Oh, I really want to know - Who Are You?" 13:26 Now, I'm not sure how many times The Who have popped up 13:29 in a discussion about God's working with human beings, 13:31 but that's really what God is asking in the judgment. 13:34 "Who are You? 13:35 You say you're one thing, but because the truth could be 13:38 otherwise, I'm going to conduct this audit. 13:41 And we'll find out who you are. 13:43 And if you are who you claim to be - if you're really my 13:46 child - then you've got nothing to fear." 13:50 Let me ask you, Have you ever been audited? 13:54 A few years ago I got a letter from the taxman 13:56 telling me certain aspects of my tax return were going to 13:59 be audited. 14:01 Imagine that - the IRS going over my tax return with a 14:04 fine-toothed comb. 14:06 What might they find? 14:08 So, did I panic, or was I my usual cool, calm and 14:12 collected self? 14:14 I'll tell you in a moment. 14:15 ♪♪♪ (music) ♪♪♪ In Matthew 4:4 14:19 The word of God says, "It Is Written, Man shall not live 14:22 by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the 14:26 mouth of God.' 22:59 And fear judgment? 23:02 I remember a teacher at my High School that we used to 23:04 call Bookes. 23:05 He walked straight and always carried an umbrella and we 23:08 all had a deadly fear of him. 23:10 We pretty much tried to keep out of his way in case he 23:12 pointed that umbrella at one of us. 23:14 If that happened your number was up. 23:17 Punishment would follow. 23:18 Of course that never ever happened to me. 23:21 (smile) But remember - God isn't looking for reasons to 23:24 punish us. 23:26 He's already got all the reasons He needs! 23:29 God is looking to save us - to get us into His eternal 23:32 kingdom. 23:34 And that's good news... 23:37 When I was a boy my brother did something wrong that my 23:40 father wanted to address. 23:42 Dad knew who the transgressor was but he let some time pass 23:45 so my brother would have an opportunity to confess his 23:47 fault. 23:50 Dad was a just man and he wanted my brother to examine 23:52 myself and then set this problem right. 23:54 My father at the time worked on the old fashion telephone 23:57 exchange. 23:58 My brother called him at 5am one morning and said, "Dad, 24:02 it was me." 24:05 "Okay, my boy," Dad said. 24:07 "Lets just leave it there." 24:09 Dad gave my brother some insight that day into what 24:12 God is like. 24:13 We can go to God and we can say, "Lord, it was me." 24:16 And God will say something just like that. 24:19 "Okay, my child, let's leave it there." 24:23 With a heavenly father like that, you don't have to fear 24:26 judgment. 24:28 You can face the future with confidence. 24:31 God wants to know the real you. 24:34 And He wants you to know the real God. 24:39 Let's pray together, Our Father in heaven I thank you 24:43 that you really are a God of love, who sent your Son into 24:46 the world not to condemn us but so that through Him we 24:49 might be saved. 24:51 We have so many faults, here they are. 24:55 Please would you take our heart and make it Yours. 24:59 Live your life in us, cleanse us, forgive us, and we look 25:05 forward to that judgment. 25:07 We know that when our name comes up, the sins will all 25:10 be gone because of what Jesus has done. 25:13 We are confident in Your love and Your goodness. 25:16 We pray in Jesus name, AMEN. 25:26 ♪♪♪♪ (music) ♪♪♪♪ According to the 25:49 Bible, everyone will at sometime stand before God in 25:51 judgment. 25:53 And I can understand that it sounds like bad news. 25:55 But I have good news for you. 25:57 It isn't bad news at all. 25:59 So how can you face the final judgment without fear?
