Thanks. 03:38 Thanks for having me. >> So, are you worried? 03:41 Are you panicked for your family, for yourself? 03:45 >> Yeah. Yeah, no, I'm not worried at 03:48 all. I think that, in the normal 03:52 course of things, there are flus that pass through. 03:55 This one is just a little bit more contagious. But, thankfully, there are many 04:00 things that we can do to prevent it and that we can treat it naturally. 04:05 And so, no, I don't see any reason for us to be, you know, panicking or paranoid about, you 04:12 know, what's going to happen. >> So, what about the masks, the hand sanitizer? 04:20 Good ideas? Do those things actually help? >> Well, there are measures that 04:24 are common sense, just like handwashing and keeping your distance and so on. 04:29 Just like any situation where someone's sick, you want to keep your distance from them or they 04:35 keep their distance from you in order that you don't get it. >> Yeah. 04:39 >> We know that 80% to 85% of people who get this virus have very mild symptoms. 04:47 They recover very well. There's 10% to 15% that have it a little bit more aggressively, 04:54 and they need to have a little bit more care. >> Mm-hmm. 04:58 >> And then there's maybe a 5% that have it quite badly. And then, out of that, there's a 05:03 small percentage that may not survive. >> Okay. So, there's no known 05:08 vaccination that has been produced at this stage, but let's talk about, perhaps, 05:12 natural remedies, things that people have access to. What would be the best defense 05:18 to build up a strong immune system? >> Mm-hmm. 05:21 >> So, I usually just make it simple. The four pillars or columns of 05:27 health -- diet, activity, sleep, and supplementation. So, with respect to diet, I'm 05:37 always highly recommending a plant-based diet, a clean diet, plant-based foods, you know, 05:44 your vegetables and your fruits and good natural sources of protein. 05:49 Drink lots of water, avoid caffeinated beverages, avoid sweets and sugars and desserts 05:55 and just eat a very, very clean diet. That is going to go a long way 06:00 in helping your immune system and strengthening your immune system. 06:05 >> So, that was your first pillar was your diet. And your second pillar, you 06:09 said, was activity. >> Activity. Yes. So, if you're worried about, you 06:15 know, getting this thing, you really should be thinking about getting outside and breathing 06:22 in, deep-breathing this fresh air outside, because you're not going to get better inside. 06:27 >> So, when we're saying "getting out," we're saying getting outside. 06:29 We're not saying getting into the car and going to the shopping mall. 06:32 >> [ Laughs ] We're getting outside in the fresh air and we're breathing in 06:37 lots of that outside air, which is very good for your immune system. 06:44 >> So going outdoors into nature, going for a hike. >> Perfect. 06:49 >> Mm-hmm. >> Yep. You're not going to get COVID-19 06:52 or any other virus, for that matter, outside in the fresh air. 06:56 >> So, you're talking about good nutrition and then you're talking about getting outside, 07:02 getting some activity, getting the circulation of your blood, of your oxygen, going through 07:06 your body, getting your mind clear, getting your -- I guess eliminating toxins at the same 07:13 time. And with nutrition, I guess drinking water is good for your 07:18 body. >> Lots of water, yeah. Flush things out, get things 07:21 moving, and clearing and -- Yeah. >> Okay. 07:24 And then you mentioned sleep. >> Yeah. So, we're in a society that doesn't value sleep. 07:32 We don't give it the importance that it needs. If we're not getting our seven 07:36 to eight hours of sleep a night, our immune system is badly affected and our resistance to 07:43 disease plummets. >> Mm-hmm. >> And so without that sleep, we 07:47 are going to leave ourselves much more susceptible to infection. 07:51 >> Mm-hmm. So, with all of these schools and, you know, workplaces that 07:57 are closing down, I guess people are staying at home. Maybe they should get caught up 08:01 on their rest. >> It's a good opportunity to do that, Mike. 08:04 Yes. Absolutely. >> And that will help your immune system. 08:08 >> Yeah. >> So, you were talking about supplementation. 08:11 What kind of supplements? >> Yes. So, this is an area that's very useful in prevention 08:18 and also in treatment. And, you know, we were talking earlier about the run on toilet 08:25 paper. And toilet paper is not one of the supplements that I'm going 08:29 to recommend for preventing or treating COVID-19. But one of our best friends is 08:36 vitamin C. >> Okay. >> Vitamin C is something that's 08:39 easy to take. It's inexpensive. >> Yeah. 08:41 >> It does boost the immune system. It provides protection against 08:45 these viruses, meaning that it is antiviral. And, so, for prevention, it's 08:52 very simple to just take a certain amount. And I recommend 4,000 milligrams 08:57 a day, but in divided doses. So 2,000 milligrams in the morning and 2,000 milligrams in 09:02 the evening will give excellent prevention properties. >> Mm-hmm. 09:08 >> If we were going to use vitamin C to treat it, then we would use much higher amounts. 09:14 So if you feel that, you know, you're having symptoms of something -- And who knows? 09:19 Maybe it might be and maybe it might not be COVID-19. But if you're feeling that you 09:24 have symptoms, then what you would do is start in with maybe 2,000 milligrams per hour and 09:32 build up until what we call bowel tolerance. So, bowel tolerances is when the 09:37 stools start to become loose, and if it's too loose, then you just cut back a bit until your 09:42 stool's normal. In clinical trials and treatment of viruses in the past -- And 09:50 many eminent physicians -- Doctors Klenner, Linus Pauling, 09:56 Dr. Robert Cathcart, Dr. Andrew Saul -- had been researching vitamin C and its 10:05 use in treating viral disease. And, so, in clinical trials, they will use -- For 10:13 coronavirus, for example, they will use anywhere from 12,000 to 24,000 milligrams of vitamin C 10:20 per day to treat it. At that level, typically, it will be mostly intravenous, but 10:29 with some oral supplementation. So, that is a one of the bright lights in treatment that is not 10:38 well-known. The media is not talking about it. 10:41 But there are three trials going on right now in Wuhan, treating with megadoses of vitamin C, 10:49 intravenously. And, also, the city of Shanghai has approved using vitamin C in 10:55 their hospitals now for this because it is proven to work very well in treating this 11:03 virus. >> I understand, in the media, though, they are covering a 11:08 Canadian-made -- or a Canadian researcher by the name of Michel Chrétien, who is the 11:14 brother of the prior prime minister, Jean Chrétien. And he is a medical researcher. 11:21 So, he has shown that the use of something called quercetin is quite effective as a prevention 11:29 and also as a treatment for viral infections, and they're using it specifically with 11:34 COVID-19. >> Yes, this is another very exciting development. 11:39 Quercetin is a natural compound. >> Mm-hmm. >> So, for the benefit of the 11:45 viewers, natural compounds are very free of side effects. They're very safe and they 11:51 don't have the side effects that could be medium or long term. And so large amounts can be 12:00 given with very little or no toxicity. So the body can accept these 12:04 things readily. And there is a trial going on in Wuhan, as well, using quercetin. 12:12 It had performed very well for SARS back in the earlier 2000s. And any of the other viruses 12:21 that have come up since then, they have found it has worked tremendously well, as well. 12:27 >> So, quercetin is available. You can buy it online, and -- >> It's available. 12:32 Yes, readily available, easily procured in health-food stores, online, pharmacies, and so on. 12:40 >> Same as the vitamin C. >> The same as the vitamin C. And I should say that with the 12:44 vitamin C, that when you're getting into the higher doses, what I recommend is a vitamin C 12:49 powder or crystals, because, typically, a teaspoon of this would equal 4,000 milligrams. 12:56 So it's a lot easier than swallowing, you know, half a bottleful of pills. 13:01 >> Absolutely. >> Yeah. >> So, tell us about some other 13:07 supplementation that you can -- >> Yeah, so, there are other things that are very good. 13:12 There's a product that comes from broccoli, called sulforaphane, that's antiviral. 13:19 I use a compound called silver. So, it's a natural silver form. People have maybe heard of 13:26 colloidal silver. >> Mm-hmm. >> The form that I use is 13:31 monatomic. It's a little bit more advanced than colloidal. 13:34 It's a little more stable, but it's still very, very effective because it is antiviral, as 13:39 well. Zinc is very good -- proven antiviral properties. 13:44 We have another compound called N-acetylcysteine, or NAC -- N-A-C -- that has a proven 13:53 ability against viruses. And, also, once it's taken, it will build up antibodies very 13:59 quickly. It's shown to do that so that you have that protection against 14:04 that virus in the future. St. John's Wort is another antiviral. 14:12 There's just so many that God has given us that we can use. So, yeah, it gives us hope. 14:18 >> Yeah, quite a list that you've given us. So, zinc -- I'm thinking zinc 14:22 lozenges. Would they be good? >> Zinc lozenges are fine as 14:25 long as they're not loaded with sugar, so be careful about that. >> Yes. 14:29 >> Because sugar, as we mentioned earlier, is going to affect the immune system. 14:34 But, yeah, zinc, in a tablet, a capsule, a liquid, a lozenge -- any of those forms are very 14:42 useful. >> And it is toxic to the coronavirus, so it will kill the 14:46 coronavirus. Like, if you happen to be in contact with someone, take a 14:51 zinc lozenge or zinc supplementation, and that can help you. 14:55 >> Yep. >> Absolutely. >> So, Dr. Sloan, are there any 14:58 more supplements that you can recommend for us to use to build our immune systems? 15:05 >> Yes, there are a few others that I could mention. An herb that I've been using in 15:10 the past year or two is an herb called Andrographis. Andrographis is also very, very 15:16 good for the common cold. It's one of the best herbs I've found. 15:19 Great for viruses. And so that could be used preventatively. 15:24 >> Is it readily available? >> And it is readily available. >> Okay. 15:27 >> Yes. And, so, preventatively, that could be used, as well as 15:31 selenium. And selenium and zinc are two trace minerals that are 15:35 extremely deficient in our soils and in our food. And so we're finding that, along 15:41 with vitamin D, which I want to add in, as well, we're finding that many people in our 15:47 population are deficient in selenium and in zinc. And so having a supplement that 15:54 also corrects a deficiency, but has antiviral properties and also immune-boosting properties 16:01 is of great benefit. And, last but not least, vitamin D -- vitamin D3, to be 16:08 exact -- is a form of vitamin D that we can take supplementally, if we can't get the sun. 16:17 And, of course, through our Canadian winters, we don't get that much sun. 16:23 And so with the lack of vitamin D that we find in our populations, because of that, 16:32 taking some extra, supplementally, also really supports the immune system and 16:38 helps to prevent these illnesses. >> Mm-hmm. 16:41 So, say you have a patient who comes to you, and they are having a high fever. 16:46 So, what's the purpose of that high fever? What's the body doing? 16:50 >> Well, unlike what maybe most people think about fever, fever is actually a good thing. 16:58 Fever is the body's -- The body uses fever to actually help to burn out these toxins, these 17:07 pathogens in our bodies. And so it is just the natural process in response to that. 17:13 >> But you don't want to get overheated. >> Yeah, so, I think the worry 17:18 is, in a lot of people, that the fever will go too high and create problems that way. 17:26 By and large, if a fever can be allowed to run its course and more or less keep it from going 17:34 way too high, which you can use a cold compress to the head and the back of the neck and so on, 17:43 the treatments that I recommend will likely cause the fever to dissipate pretty quickly, 17:48 because in addition to the body's burning this out, the remedies and the treatments that 17:53 you're taking are working at it, as well, so it speeds up the process considerably. 17:59 So, Dr. Sloan, I have a bit of a question, maybe it's just an insight; when I see what's 18:05 happening in the world with this COVID-19 virus, I think of the disciples of Jesus 18:11 in the boat panicking in Mark chapter 4 and the Bible says that in the midst of this 18:17 life-threatening storm the the disciples asked Jesus in verse 38, "Master do you not 18:24 that we are all about to die?" And sometimes we're kind of like this -- we don't believe 18:33 that that God even cares. And some say, "Well, God doesn't know what I'm going 18:38 through, He just sits up in heaven while we're forced to suffer down here on this 18:43 earth. The ravages of this virus that we're going through with so much pain and 18:49 suffering, being separated from one another." But the truth is the Bible tells us 18:53 that God is with us. God suffers and He is suffering with us now. He 18:58 suffered when Jesus died on the cross in Isaiah chapter 53 and Hebrews chapter 13 verse 19:05 5 says, "Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you." So, as a Christian, Dr. Sloan, 19:11 what kind of word of encouragement can you give us from the Word of God, 19:16 from the Bible. 19:17 >> Well, I'm -- You know, I really love Isaiah 40:31. 19:34 >> Mm-hmm.
