rooms in the house, 03:11 the bathroom. 03:13 It is a room where we do our 03:15 private business and am I ever 03:18 grateful for it because this old 03:20 Victorian farmhouse that we live 03:22 in did not have plumbing until 03:25 1980, if you can believe it. 03:28 Just five years before we moved 03:30 into it. 03:32 Water is a vital necessity for 03:35 cleanliness, both physically and 03:37 spiritually. 03:39 Without it, we are filthy 03:41 dirty. 03:43 As sinners, Jesus tells us we 03:45 must be born again. 03:48 It is Christ who makes us holy. 03:51 Christ who took my sins upon 03:54 Himself so that I may be saved. 03:57 It is here, in this very private 04:00 room between me and my Saviour, 04:03 that it gets real personal. 04:07 I surrender my all, and Jesus 04:10 takes those confessed sins of 04:12 mine and literally flushes them 04:16 down the toilet 04:17 to be seen no more. 04:49 Our sins are taken from us and 04:51 flushed away, never to be seen 04:54 or remembered again. 04:56 We are forgiven, washed clean. 05:02 Oh, what a joy it is to climb 05:04 into my new large soaker bath 05:07 tub filled with warm, inviting 05:09 water. 05:10 It is here where I am immersed 05:12 in the depths of the spiritual 05:14 grave, dying to my old sinful 05:16 self and arising new in Christ's 05:20 resurrection. 05:22 It was Christmas, and to my 05:24 surprise, a large box was 05:27 brought to me to open. 05:29 As I carefully unwrapped the 05:31 large presents sitting on my 05:33 lap, I eyed the suspicious grin 05:36 on my husband's face because I 05:39 know how hard it is for him to 05:41 go shopping so whatever was in 05:42 this box, I was appreciating it 05:45 already. 05:47 I pushed the tissue paper out of 05:48 the way to reveal a beautiful 05:52 bathrobe. 05:54 "I thought you could use a new 05:55 one," he said. 05:58 And as I lifted it out of the 05:59 box, I hugged it close. 06:02 It was ever so soft and I love 06:06 soft things. 06:08 Soft things make me happy. 06:10 I wear that robe a lot. 06:13 It wraps me up in my 06:14 husband's love. 06:16 I feel cherished and taken care 06:18 of in it. 06:19 As soon as I step out of this 06:21 bathtub, I put that robe on. 06:25 You see, there was a reason 06:26 Kenny said he thought I could 06:28 use a new robe. 06:29 My old one was pretty tattered 06:31 up, faded thin, with a few holes 06:34 in it. 06:36 That's how we are before our 06:38 sins are forgiven. 06:40 We have all become like one who 06:43 is unclean and all our righteous 06:45 deeds are like a polluted 06:47 garment. 06:49 When we try to be good in our 06:50 own strength, we are nothing but 06:53 a faded old dirty rag. 06:55 We are wearing a robe of 06:57 self-righteousness, trying to 06:59 get salvation through our own 07:01 efforts. 07:02 But it's not the right robe. 07:05 Before stepping into the 07:07 spiritual bath, every dirty 07:09 thing about us has been revealed 07:11 and must come off. 07:14 We must bear our souls 07:16 open and naked. 07:18 It's the only way. 07:21 Christ has forgiven us of our 07:23 sins, but now we need to be 07:26 cleansed so we step into the 07:28 water and are baptized. 07:31 It is the act of dying to self 07:33 and being resurrected in Christ 07:35 that gives us His robe of 07:37 righteousness. 07:40 Gone are our sins, flushed down 07:42 the toilet to be seen no more. 07:46 Cleansed by His blood and 07:47 resurrection, I am covered in 07:51 His robe of righteousness. 08:04 I am a new creation. 08:08 Now it's time to go into the 08:10 dressing room to talk about what 08:12 it means to become a reflection 08:14 of Christ's likeness. 08:16 When our son moved out, I moved 08:18 in, into his bedroom, that is. 08:21 I pulled up the old carpet, 08:23 cleaned and sanded the wood 08:25 floorboards, and painted them 08:27 a shiny black. 08:29 I painted the walls white and 08:31 hung clothes racks and a full 08:33 length mirror on the walls. 08:36 It's wonderful to have this 08:38 room, especially when the old 08:40 Victorian farmhouse doesn't have 08:43 much for any closets at all. 08:46 Now I have a whole room 08:49 to dress in. 08:51 You know, this is a very 08:53 important room of our spiritual 08:55 house, too, because once we have 08:58 accepted Jesus Christ into our 09:00 hearts and have made that 09:02 decision to live with Him, we 09:05 become like Him. 09:07 Everything about us is going to 09:10 look like Him. 09:12 But it's much more than looking 09:15 like Him because we can look 09:17 like a Christian on the outside 09:19 and still not be like Him on the 09:21 inside. 09:23 It's about where my heart is. 09:26 That is where our true beauty 09:28 comes from. 09:30 You know, a well-dressed woman 09:33 who is admired for her outward 09:35 beauty, but who is selfish and 09:38 unkind in heart, is not very 09:41 pretty at all. 09:43 In fact, she can be seen as 09:45 quite ugly. 09:47 In this personal relationship 09:49 with Jesus here in our house, 09:52 the place within us where He 09:54 wants to dwell, we will know who 09:58 Jesus is, how He treated others, 10:01 and the lessons He so 10:03 passionately wants us to learn 10:05 and understand. 10:07 In knowing Jesus, there will be 10:10 no selfishness, pride or 10:13 arrogance, criticism or judgment 10:16 of others. 10:18 There will only be beauty and 10:20 grace and elegance. 10:55 So how should I dress then? 10:57 How do I reflect Christ on the 11:00 outside? 11:02 Honestly, whatever draws us to 11:04 God for His glory, instead of my 11:07 glory, is where our hearts focus 11:11 should be. 11:12 We can be prideful in any kind 11:14 of attire we choose to wear. 11:17 The Lord said to Samuel... 11:34 Where is my heart's focus? 11:37 It's about my heart. 11:40 It will not be focused on me and 11:42 my personal appearance because 11:45 if it is, then pridefulness and 11:48 vanity will be at the root of my 11:50 character. 11:52 But with eyes focused on Jesus 11:54 with a the heart for the truth 11:56 of His love for all humanity, 11:59 knowing that I myself can never 12:02 be good enough in my own 12:04 strength, I will gladly wear the 12:07 robe of righteousness, 12:09 which is Jesus. 12:12 Here in the dressing room, where 12:14 we become the reflection of 12:15 Christ, we will be known by 12:18 what's inside our hearts. 12:21 Now, walking into my grandma's 12:23 attic was like stepping into a 12:26 treasure load of everything she 12:28 has ever owned in the seven 12:30 decades of her and grandpa's 12:32 life together. 12:33 From broken old toasters to 12:35 dresses of every size, boxes 12:39 piled high were filled with 12:41 letters and cards of every 12:43 holiday and occasion, Christmas, 12:46 Valentines, birthdays, and 12:49 anniversaries. 12:50 Every one given to her 12:51 throughout her adult life had 12:53 been treasured and kept. 12:56 But I think the real reason my 12:58 grandma hung on to all this 13:00 stuff was because she needed her 13:03 life close to her. 13:05 She needed to know that her life 13:08 was worth something. 13:10 It gave her comfort and value. 13:13 My grandma is gone now and 13:15 family has had to deal with 13:17 getting rid of all that stored 13:20 up stuff of hers. 13:22 Boxes of papers and clothes had 13:25 to be tossed, full of mildew. 13:55 We must learn when to let go 13:58 of things. 14:00 If something in our life is not 14:01 giving us a good purpose, it 14:04 clutters us up inside to 14:07 overwhelming proportions. 14:09 In the attic of our personal 14:11 house, we store up all kinds of 14:14 things. 14:15 I like to compare these boxes in 14:18 storage to compartments within 14:20 ourselves. 14:22 And while some of our boxes are 14:24 great, wonderful boxes, some of 14:27 those boxes need to go. 14:30 But just like it's hard to let 14:32 go of our worldly possessions, 14:35 it can be even harder to let go 14:37 of our emotional clutter. 14:41 One of the hardest boxes I have 14:44 had to deal with for mindful 14:46 purging is one that even now as 14:49 I tell you about it, 14:51 is not easy. 14:53 I wish, like everything, this 14:55 box did not exist. 14:58 But it does. 14:59 I have tried for many years to 15:02 just throw it away, but that 15:04 only buried it into the back 15:06 corner of my attic, collecting 15:08 rot and dust. 15:10 Because when we don't deal with 15:12 an issue in our lives, it just 15:15 grows and festers into something 15:18 much worse. 15:21 For me, it was hatred. 15:24 I hated my rapist 15:26 and I hated myself. 15:29 When Jesus came to live with me 15:32 and I was opening every room of 15:34 my house up to Him, we 15:36 eventually came to this attic 15:39 door and I knew we were about to 15:41 face all my boxes. 15:45 We began opening the smaller, 15:47 safer ones like happy memories 15:50 and what brings me joy and a few 15:54 important ones I needed to throw 15:56 out, like grudges and offences. 16:01 But then in the dark, damp 16:03 corner of fear, stood that box. 16:09 But by now, after spending so 16:11 much time with Jesus, I knew 16:14 I could trust Him implicitly. 16:17 So together we opened its lid. 16:22 I had been hoarding up anger and 16:25 resentment, fear and 16:27 retaliation, filling that box 16:31 since I was 14 years old. 16:34 There wasn't much room for 16:36 anything else, it was so packed 16:38 full. 16:40 Now, years later, I grabbed hold 16:43 of Jesus's hand and together we 16:46 faced it head on. 16:49 Now I won't perfume it. 16:51 It stank. 16:52 It was one of the ugliest, 16:54 hardest, most painful and scary 16:57 things I have ever faced 16:58 in my life. 17:00 But Jesus knew exactly what to 17:03 do with it. 17:04 So I gave it to Him, and He 17:07 turned that rotten moulding box 17:11 chock full of its intrusive 17:13 garbage into something of worth. 17:38 He truly sets us free. 17:41 How thankful I am that He is the 17:44 judge of all things. 17:46 And it's not my worry. 17:49 But there's more. 17:50 There are treasures worth 17:52 hanging on to and they are right 17:55 here in my trunk. 18:02 My dad's Bible. 18:04 This Word of God is one of the 18:07 best treasures that we can 18:09 ever have. 18:11 For Him to speak directly to us 18:14 in a letter of love. 18:17 And as we talked about in the 18:18 living room, where once we were 18:20 dead, this Bible, these letters, 18:25 these stories come alive. 18:27 So this is where we grow, this 18:29 is where it starts. 18:31 One of the best treasures He has 18:33 ever given to us... 18:36 Ah! 18:38 This is a very special book. 18:40 A science book. 18:42 This science book was my 18:44 mother's. 18:45 She had it when she was in 18:47 school. 18:48 It was in our bookcase when I 18:49 was growing up and I loved it. 18:51 This is my favourite book. 18:53 I would pore over this book, 18:55 especially when I was learning 18:57 to read. 18:59 There's so much to learn about 19:00 God by just learning about Him 19:04 in the world that He has created 19:06 for us, a beautiful, wonderful 19:10 world. 19:13 [chest creaking] 19:17 Now I love antiques so in my 19:20 house there are a lot of 19:21 antiques. 19:24 The telephone. 19:26 Did you know that the telephone 19:29 is a representation of a 19:31 wonderful treasure that we can 19:33 have stored up for heaven? 19:34 Oh, yeah. 19:36 This phone represents prayer. 19:39 Talking to God. 19:42 Wow! 19:43 What a treasure that we can 19:44 communicate with Him and that He 19:46 hears us and that He cares about 19:48 us and that He wants to talk 19:50 with us. 19:51 What a beautiful, beautiful 19:53 treasure. 19:58 I have a very special camera. 20:01 This camera belonged to my 20:04 grandpa, and he took it overseas 20:07 during World War II and took a 20:09 lot of pictures. 20:11 It also was their family camera 20:15 through the fifties and into the 20:16 sixties. 20:17 So when I look through old 20:19 family photo albums, I look back 20:22 at the reflections in those 20:25 pictures of my grandparents and 20:27 my mom and the rest of their 20:30 children and I can see a 20:32 resemblance in those 20:34 photographs. 20:36 "Oh, Grandma looks like me or I 20:39 look like her." 20:41 A reflection of Christ. 20:44 A picture of who He is all 20:48 around us in those 20:51 who resemble Him. 20:52 Because we're a family and 20:54 together we look like Him, we 20:57 look like we belong to Him. 21:03 Ha ha... 21:06 What about baby shoes? 21:08 How do these have anything to do 21:10 with storing up treasures for 21:12 heaven? 21:14 When we are new Christians, 21:17 we're like babies and the Bible 21:19 says that we must become like 21:21 little children to enter the 21:23 kingdom of heaven. 21:25 What does that mean? 21:26 That means that we need to learn 21:31 how to walk with God. 21:33 It doesn't come naturally, it 21:34 doesn't come easy. 21:37 But when we fall and we stumble 21:40 just like a little child 21:42 learning to walk, He picks us 21:44 up, He carries us through, and 21:46 we learn and we grow. 21:50 And our walk with Him becomes 21:52 much, much easier. 21:57 Okay... 21:59 ...here's a special 22:02 jewel of mine. 22:04 An old radio. 22:06 You know, when I'm in prayer or 22:08 I have something that I need to 22:10 communicate with God, He speaks 22:14 to me through the Word of God, 22:15 through the Bible, for sure, but 22:18 sometimes He speaks to me 22:20 through music. 22:21 Music is so powerful in how God 22:24 speaks to the heart and our 22:26 emotions as well. 22:31 My last item... 22:35 ...a very, very special item. 22:41 This is an old microphone. 22:45 When my dad passed away and I 22:47 went to my mom's house, one of 22:50 the first things I saw 22:52 was his desk. 22:54 My dad loved the ham radio. 22:59 Every morning he would get up at 23:01 3:30 a.m. and be ready on air at 23:06 4 a.m. every single morning to 23:09 give Bible studies. 23:11 We didn't know who was listening 23:15 until when he passed away the 23:17 emails and the letters, cards 23:20 poured in to give my mom their 23:23 sympathies. 23:24 He had touched so many lives. 23:28 And it's important and a real 23:30 gift that God gives to us to go 23:33 and tell others about Him. 23:35 That's a wonderful treasure to 23:37 have, because when we go to 23:39 heaven, there are two things 23:41 that we take with us, our 23:43 character and those that we have 23:46 shared Jesus with. 23:48 So remember, wherever your 23:50 treasure is, there the desires 23:53 of your heart will be also. 23:57 I cannot express enough how 23:59 important it is to have our 24:02 hearts in the right place with 24:04 Jesus, because there will be a 24:06 time that we will need to cling 24:10 to Him stronger than we ever 24:13 thought possible. 24:15 As I take you to the bedroom 24:17 next week, I will tell you 24:19 exactly why. 24:24 >> Paulie, I gotta thank you for 24:25 all the spiritual lessons that 24:27 we learned in each of the rooms 24:28 that you took us through today 24:29 in this old Victorian house 24:31 of yours. 24:31 Into the bathroom, just to 24:33 remind our viewers of what 24:34 happened in each of those rooms. 24:36 So right there, confessing your 24:39 sins, the most vulnerable room, 24:42 the most intimate, private room, 24:44 being naked before God, right? 24:46 >> That's right. 24:47 >> And to go into that place of 24:49 confession, a necessary place to 24:52 confess our sins. 24:53 And then to come into the 24:54 dressing room. 24:55 So when we dress, what we look 24:58 like, not to look at the 25:00 outside, but to realize that God 25:01 looks at the heart and to see 25:03 others that way. 25:04 >> That's right. 25:05 >> And then finally, the attic, 25:07 and next week, we'll talk about 25:09 one of those boxes that you 25:10 mentioned and we'll go to the 25:13 bedroom, a place of 25:16 quietness, of rest of peace. 25:20 And so I just find that what you 25:22 shared with us is so important, 25:25 that we need to kind of let some 25:27 of these things go but hold on 25:29 to others. 25:30 These are treasures in our 25:31 lives, and they have touched us 25:32 in many ways. 25:33 So thank you for sharing those 25:35 with us. 25:36 [PAULIE] You're welcome. 25:36 >> So we've come to the end of 25:38 our program, Paulie, but I'm 25:39 really looking forward to next 25:42 week when we join you and go 25:44 with you into the bedroom, just 25:47 to learn all the lessons, the 25:49 spiritual lessons, that you're 25:50 gonna teach us in the bedroom. 25:52 But before we go, Love, can you 25:54 pray for us? 25:55 >> Absolutely. 25:56 Okay, let's pray together. 25:57 Father in heaven, You have been 25:59 so good to us. 26:00 You do forgive us of our sins, 26:01 You cleanse us from all 26:03 unrighteousness, and You give us 26:05 eyes to look at one another 26:07 with grace. 26:08 And to also look at the 26:11 treasures in our lives and 26:12 appreciate the places You've led 26:14 us in the past. 26:15 Because we have no fear for the 26:16 future except we forget the way 26:18 You have led us in the past and 26:21 the way that You're gonna 26:22 continue to lead us in the 26:23 future, giving us hope. 26:25 We pray these things and we 26:26 thank You. 26:26 In Jesus' name, amen. 26:29 >> Paulie, thank you so much for
