00:21 Hello, and welcome to Jesus for Asia Now.
00:23 I'm so glad you could join us today. 00:25 I'm Natalie Wood, and today I have 00:27 brother Gem Castor with me. 00:29 He is a missionary. 00:31 And, Gem, where are you a missionary from? 00:35 I'm a missionary from the Philippines 00:38 but I barely stay in the Philippines. 00:40 And where are you a missionary too? 00:42 Wherever the Lord leads me, Natalie. 00:44 Okay, so you go all over the place. 00:47 Yes, wherever the Lord sends, I go. 00:49 Okay. 00:50 Now we're doing a couple of different shows with you, 00:52 so people may have seen you already once. 00:54 This show, we're going to be talking a little more 00:56 about the kind of ministry that God has you doing. 00:59 Okay. 01:00 Where you're going and what you're doing. 01:02 So do you want to start out, maybe, 01:04 by telling us a little bit about 01:06 how you got into ministry? 01:08 I know we've covered that little more fully 01:10 in a different show but maybe a little bit about 01:12 how God got you started. 01:14 Okay. 01:15 So actually, I'm now in the prayer ministry. 01:18 Most of the things that I've been doing 01:19 is involved with prayer, revival and reformation. 01:23 And it all started actually with one of the projects 01:26 of Jesus for Asia and faith camp. 01:29 I was not really attracted to the prayer ministry. 01:34 I love doing things for the Lord 01:37 but not really prayer, 01:38 not really spending time with God 01:40 because for me, like spending time in prayer, 01:44 it's such a waste. 01:46 That was what I was thinking before. 01:48 Okay. 01:49 But the Lord brought me to the prayer ministry 01:53 through the prayer room and faith camp. 01:56 And the Lord showed me 01:57 that there is more that you could accomplish, 02:01 if you bend your knees 02:02 because it's not going to be by your might, by your power 02:06 but only by His Spirit. 02:09 Okay. 02:10 So you help with prayer ministry. 02:13 And you share testimonies of what God is doing. 02:15 Yes. Okay. 02:17 So where have you traveled to? 02:19 I guess one of my first experiences 02:21 and before that, Natalie, I was somehow inspired 02:25 by one testimony of one pastor who talked about George Miller. 02:31 And, you know, George Miller lived in a time 02:33 where nobody somehow believed that there is a God 02:36 who hears and answers prayer. 02:37 And yet this person, 02:39 this missionary tried to prove to people 02:42 that there is a God who hears and answers prayer. 02:45 So whenever he needed something, 02:47 he only brings it to the Lord. 02:49 And if the answer comes, when the answer comes, 02:52 he knows for a fact that the answer came from God. 02:55 That was his agreement with God. 02:57 Yes. And I said to the Lord. 02:59 "If You want me to be a missionary, 03:01 then I'll do a similar walk like that. 03:04 I will not depend on people. 03:06 I will only depend on You just to really know 03:09 if You are the same God that George Miller 03:11 is talking about." 03:13 And by God's grace, the Lord showed me 03:16 every step of the way 03:18 that all we had to do is lean on Him fully. 03:22 Wait upon the Lord and see 03:24 the Lord's leading in direction. 03:27 So this is what you do? 03:28 This is what I do. 03:29 At first, it was scary because I was somehow trained 03:35 to fend for myself even when I was young. 03:38 I was a businessman even before I entered elementary school. 03:43 I was already selling stuff in our neighborhood. 03:46 So my parents taught us, 03:47 "If you want something, you have to work for it. 03:50 You have to plan out things in your life," 03:52 And when I became a conference youth leader, 03:57 so you have to plan out activities... 04:01 Lots of details. 04:02 Conferences like the faith camp, 04:04 like mission conference, you know how that works. 04:06 You could not just lay it off and just go somewhere else. 04:11 But in the missionary work, it's the exact opposite. 04:14 Sometimes all your plans gets... 04:17 Flipped around or changed or... 04:20 Or edited. Yeah. 04:21 Or scrapped out. 04:23 And God's plan needs to be pursued. 04:26 So this is one thing that I've been learning in the life 04:29 in this walk with God. 04:30 And beautiful thought as well in the Spirit of Prophecy 04:34 which says when Jesus was here in this earth, 04:38 He did not plan for His life. 04:40 He did not plan for Himself. 04:43 The Father planned for Him. 04:45 And that's the same counsel from that quote as well 04:48 from Help in Daily Living that says, 04:50 "Let God plan for you." 04:52 So I tried that and it works. 04:55 And it's more amazing because during the time 04:58 that I was planning for myself, I was filled with stress. 05:02 I was filled... 05:03 And, yes, I'm a happy kind of guy 05:05 but I am quite paranoid sometimes, 05:09 especially during the time 05:10 that I was not surrendered to the Lord. 05:14 Surrender, there's an important word right there. 05:18 Yes. 05:19 Because without it, you'd be completely stressed out 05:22 all the time even still. 05:23 Oh, yeah. 05:24 Because you think somehow you had to do something. 05:27 Yes. 05:28 And this is one thing when we talk about surrender, 05:31 it looks or it sounds so scary. 05:35 It sounds so scary. 05:36 And surrender in itself sounds like a defeat. 05:42 It's like giving up. 05:44 But actually, it is giving up but it's not a defeat. 05:48 Giving up to the Lord means 05:50 the Lord could begin to win in your life. 05:53 That's a good way to look at it. 05:55 Yeah, because before I was being defeated 05:59 again, and again, and again. 06:00 During our conference before, I could not function, 06:05 I could not even swallow more than two spoons of food. 06:09 I get so tense up like, my throat closes up. 06:13 But then I begin to see a life 06:15 that is surrendered to the Lord. 06:17 It's just amazing. 06:19 And a life lived for Him, a surrendered life, 06:22 it's just a beautiful life. 06:25 And I know you have some stories to share with us. 06:28 But first, I want to ask you, 06:30 why do you call yourself a missionary? 06:32 I mean, isn't a missionary just somebody that goes 06:34 and lives overseas somewhere? 06:36 What is a missionary? 06:37 I guess a missionary is a person 06:39 who does the will of the father. 06:41 Whatever we're doing whether we are nurses, 06:46 we are teachers, we are students, 06:48 we are not actually just a student, 06:51 just a teacher, just a doctor, just a nurse. 06:55 We are missionary doctors, we are missionary nurses, 06:59 we are missionary students, we are missionary teachers. 07:04 And this is one thing that I'm seeing. 07:06 Being a missionary is doing that what is in front of you 07:11 for the glory of God. 07:13 Whatever it is that would give glory to God, 07:15 and anything that would give glory to God 07:18 would be beneficial for the people around you, 07:21 and for you eventually. 07:23 So missionary isn't just somewhere off 07:27 in a foreign land, in a jungle somewhere... 07:29 No. No, we put... 07:31 It's wherever God has you. Amen, yes. 07:34 Obeying Him. Yeah. 07:36 And when people ask me, Natalie, 07:38 so where is your mission field? 07:40 And it's quite difficult because I don't have 07:42 a permanent mission field. 07:43 I go wherever the Lord sends me. 07:46 I remember, when I talk to you about George Miller, 07:52 I decided that I will not ask people 07:55 about my needs. 07:57 And I follow George Miller example as well, 08:00 and I guess that is the example of Christ. 08:02 And I decided not to be employed, 08:06 not to receive any salary, 08:08 not to receive any regular stipend. 08:11 I only depend on the Lord 08:12 and to see how the Lord will fully lead, 08:16 and to how fully provide, it has been amazing. 08:20 It has been beautiful, wonderful. 08:22 Every single step of the way, the Lord does provide. 08:27 Wow. Okay. 08:29 So we want to start having some testimonies. 08:33 I know, you have a lot of testimonies 08:35 of how you got started, and how the Lord has led. 08:38 I know that one of your testimonies is quite long, 08:41 it's very involved 08:43 but if you can maybe share a little? 08:44 Yeah, sure. 08:46 Yeah, that's a full sermon. Yeah. 08:49 So actually, when my friends invited me to... 08:53 encouraged me to apply for Amazing Facts, 08:57 I was hesitant because I don't have a US visa, 09:01 and having a US visa especially for us, Filipinos, 09:04 it's quite difficult. 09:06 It's like winning a lottery. 09:08 But for people like me 09:10 that does not have any business, or any salary, 09:15 or any regular thing that links us 09:17 back to the Philippines, it's quite impossible. 09:21 So they encouraged me. 09:23 "Gem, if you want, if you believe that 09:26 God has been leading you in your life, 09:28 if you have been walking by faith, 09:29 why not walk by faith now?" 09:31 So I took that... Challenge. 09:34 Challenge and moved forward but I did not have faith in me. 09:38 So I prayed to the Lord, prayed hard to God. 09:41 This is one amazing thing about God 09:43 because God will enable us. 09:47 Whenever He asks us to follow His beat 09:50 that He will enable us. 09:51 To make long story short, I applied for a US visa 09:55 and the moment I was there ready for the interview, 09:58 before the interview began, I was just, I was in panic, 10:04 and I did not even know what I was experiencing 10:09 that I was having panic attack. 10:12 All my insides were trying to come out, 10:14 my throat begin to close up. 10:16 And I need somewhere to pray. 10:19 So I went to the bathroom 10:20 because this is not a beautiful picture 10:23 that will happen. 10:24 If you get interviewed and you look so nervous, 10:27 I could just picture myself being interviewed. 10:29 "What is your name?" "My name is Gem Castor." 10:31 You fall to the ground. 10:34 You would be denied right away. 10:36 So I went to the bathroom, I prayed. 10:38 And this is one amazing thing that I realized 10:42 that if we seek God with all our hearts, 10:45 any place in this world, no matter how dirty it is, 10:48 no matter how uncomfortable it is, 10:51 it becomes a prayer room, 10:53 and the Lord's presence will be there with us, 10:55 any place in this world. 10:57 So the Lord gave me that peace that passeth understanding. 11:00 And when I came out ready for the interview, 11:03 the first question it was asked, 11:05 "How much is your monthly income? 11:07 Oh, boy. 11:08 You know, I don't have anything. 11:10 So the Lord just prompted me, "Be honest." 11:13 So I said, "I'm sorry, sir, 11:14 but I don't have a monthly income. 11:16 I don't earn anything." He said, "Why is that?" 11:19 "I'm a missionary volunteer, sir, 11:21 so I don't get paid for my work." 11:23 "Then how do you live?" 11:27 "I live by faith, sir." 11:29 And then he got so irritated because he thought that 11:31 I was not taking him seriously. 11:33 Oh, boy. 11:34 So he asked me, "I live by faith too 11:37 but tell me how do you really live? 11:39 How do you buy your food? How do you buy your clothes?" 11:42 And I said, "The Lord provides, sir." 11:44 He got even more irritated. 11:47 He took my passport, he looked at it, 11:49 and that's the only document I have, my passport. 11:52 And he said, "If you're not paid for your work, 11:54 how come you travel so much?" 11:57 And I said, "Sir, I'm in the prayer ministry 11:59 and I pray to the Lord, the Lord will supply my needs." 12:03 And he said, "Okay, but how about your hotel? 12:06 How about your food?" 12:08 I said, "Sir, I live in the homes of those people 12:10 who invited me and they feed me," 12:11 which is true. 12:13 He's running out of questions. 12:16 And he asked me this difficult question, 12:19 "How about emergencies? 12:20 Do you encounter emergencies?" 12:22 And I said, "Yes, sir. Emergencies are unavoidable." 12:25 "Now how are you able to pay for emergencies?" 12:27 I said, "Sir, the Lord is faithful 12:29 that the Lord provides the right amount of money 12:31 for the right amount of emergency." 12:34 And then he asked me, 12:35 "So you receive money for emergencies?" 12:37 I said, "Mm-hmm. Yes, sir." 12:39 He said, "You just lied to me." 12:41 And then he said, "You know what, 12:44 because a while ago, you're telling me that 12:45 you don't receive any amount of money 12:47 for your work. 12:48 And now you're telling me that you receive money 12:50 for emergency. 12:51 You just lied to me." 12:53 And I said, "Sir," 12:55 and this is one thing amazing about God, 12:57 because I could not have answered that question. 12:59 If you remember my situation before, 13:02 I would have just collapse and die in front of him. 13:05 And God is so amazing that 13:07 before he even finished the question, the answer came. 13:12 And I told him, "Sir, a while ago, 13:15 you're asking me for a regular monthly income. 13:18 But emergencies are not regular." 13:23 That's a smart answer, isn't it? 13:26 And, Natalie, I'm not that smart. 13:28 None of us are, really. 13:30 Especially me. 13:32 And before he could even say anything, I told him, 13:37 "Sir, I wanted to be honest from the very beginning. 13:41 I want to give... 13:43 I don't want to give you a salary range 13:44 that I don't earn. 13:45 And I don't want to give you a bank account 13:47 that I don't have. 13:48 I don't have a bank account and I have been living by faith 13:51 for the past two years." 13:53 He gave a big sigh and said, 13:56 "Then tell me, how should I fill in this question, 13:59 your monthly income?" 14:00 We're still in question number one. 14:03 And I said, "I'm sorry, sir. I don't know." 14:06 "Okay, monthly income," he typed in, not applicable. 14:11 He asked me a few more questions 14:12 and he told me, "Congratulations, 14:15 your application has been approved." 14:18 And I could not believe myself. 14:21 And then the moment I went out, 14:23 I called my sister and she was crying 14:25 on the other end when she heard, 14:27 and I was crying on the other end. 14:28 She said, "It's really God's will for you to go." 14:30 Yeah. 14:32 It was really God's will because before I even stood up, 14:35 impression the Holy Spirit came, 14:38 "When you get your visa approved, 14:40 it's not because of who you are because you are nobody. 14:43 It's not because of what you have 14:45 because you have nothing, but only because of God." 14:49 And there, I begin to realize that 14:51 God wants His fingerprints, His signature 14:55 in every testimony of our lives, 14:58 in every wonderful thing that happens in our lives. 15:01 He wants us to acknowledge Him that it's all because of Him 15:05 and Him alone. 15:07 And, you know, after that I receive the visa, 15:12 they gave me a 10 year multiple entry. 15:15 Wow, that is a God thing for sure. 15:17 That is a God thing. 15:18 And I guess God just wants to make it clear 15:21 that we will not think that this is a coincidence, 15:25 He wants us to know it's all because of Him. 15:27 Do you think God wants to be a part 15:29 of every decision in your life? 15:30 Oh, every single decision, no matter how small it is. 15:34 So nothing that you do you can do on your own? 15:37 No. 15:39 We are nothing without God. 15:41 That beautiful quote that I really love, 15:44 "Man can do nothing without God." 15:47 And we think sometimes that we can... 15:50 "It's okay, God, I've got this. 15:52 I'm doing fine, 15:53 I can make this decision on my own." 15:56 And He promised He will instruct us 15:58 and lead us and teach us and guide us 16:02 in the way which thou shall go. 16:05 So why do we want to follow our own will 16:09 when we have an eternal guide? 16:11 And He knows everything. He knows everything. 16:13 And He knows already the response 16:16 or the ending result of every possible decision 16:19 we could make. 16:21 And following Him, following Him is never boring. 16:25 Follow His decision 16:26 you'll never make the wrong decision 16:28 if it's not your decision. 16:30 That's right. 16:32 And then if trouble comes you go, "Lord, 16:34 what are You gonna do?" 16:35 Yeah. 16:36 "How are You gonna deal with this?" 16:38 It's not what am I going to do. Right. 16:41 Like, "Okay Lord, I'll just stand back, 16:44 I want to see you working in this." 16:46 Wow. Well, that's awesome. 16:49 And I know you have other testimonies. 16:51 I know that you travel a lot. 16:53 So do you have any testimonies of maybe 16:55 a divine appointment while traveling? 16:58 Just like last year, almost last year 17:01 it was September last year, 17:02 I was having a layover in Las Vegas 17:05 and flying to Seattle and there was this guy 17:08 who was sitting beside me and I was all... 17:10 I'm always praying when I travel, "Lord, 17:14 I want missions, I don't want vacation." 17:17 And this guy sat beside me 17:19 and he asked me about some things, 17:21 asked about my name, about... 17:25 What you're doing. 17:26 And when I told him, "I'm a missionary," 17:28 and then he looked at me, he said, "Wow, that's weird." 17:31 And he said, "No, no, no. 17:32 I'm not telling you that you're weird 17:34 but it's a weird situation because 17:35 you're the second missionary that I met today." 17:39 And he mentioned about something about numbers, 17:42 he said, "I just want to ask you about 17:44 this experience that I have. 17:47 I don't even know why I'm asking you this 17:49 but I'm just prompted to ask you 17:51 because last year when we came here, 17:53 I received my receipt in a restaurant 17:58 that we have dinner and then I saw my receipt, 18:01 it's $ 77.70. 18:05 It goes there 777, 18:07 so I went to the lottery and bet on it and I lost it. 18:12 And today before boarding the plane 18:16 I ordered some burritos and the lady asked me 18:19 for some extra side of something 18:21 and that I don't usually order sides of this or that 18:24 but I said yes, and when I got my bill 18:28 the receipt told me it's, $7.77." 18:32 He said, "It's just weird 18:34 but I just want to ask you right now, 18:37 can you make sense of this?" 18:39 And I told the guy, his name is John. 18:42 I told him, "You know what? 18:44 Actually I think I can make sense of that. 18:47 I'm a Seventh-day Adventist 18:49 and we have this initiative called seven, seven, seven. 18:52 We pray seven times a day 18:55 and seven days a week at 7 am and 7 pm." 18:59 And then he said, "Whoa! 19:01 That's just like creepy. 19:03 Yeah, I'm having goose bumps right now. 19:05 You just somehow answered the question 19:08 that I have had in my head for like more than a year." 19:13 And then we talked more about God. 19:15 We talked about my experiences as a missionary, 19:17 that opened a whole thing. 19:19 Him and his wife Jessica, was so focused 19:23 on our conversation 19:24 and at the end of our conversation 19:27 he said to me, "Maybe God is telling me something, 19:31 maybe God is wanting me to check on 19:33 the Seventh-day Adventist Church." 19:35 And I told him, "Maybe." 19:38 And then he himself said to me before we sat, 19:42 before we left the airplane is that, 19:45 "I think God wants me to be a Seventh-day Adventist." 19:48 And we have been communicating for the past year. 19:51 Every time I pray for him it's so ironic, 19:56 it was so surprising that after I prayed for him 20:00 like a few days later I will receive text from him. 20:03 He will send me some pictures from the slot machines. 20:06 Oh, boy. 20:07 He loves, he loves to go to casinos. 20:10 And one time he sent me this slot machine, 20:13 seven, seven, seven and he told me, 20:16 "God is reminding me again." 20:19 And one amazing thing happened because just the Saturday ago, 20:24 a few days ago I received a message from him. 20:29 "Gem, I went to church today and that was Sabbath." 20:33 And he sent me a picture 20:35 of him and his whole family together with two kids... 20:37 At a church. 20:38 At a church together with a guy, 20:40 and I don't know what church that was 20:42 until he posted. 20:44 I received another picture... On Facebook? 20:45 On Facebook and it said, "Seventh-day Adventist Church." 20:49 And I was so amazed and the joy just like, 20:54 "This is amazing. 20:56 This is more than winning the lottery." 20:58 Yeah, for sure. For sure. 21:00 And he posted in Facebook, "I went to church today, 21:03 met some amazing people and it all started 21:06 when I took a plane from Vegas and I sat down with Gem Castor 21:11 and asked him about seven, seven, seven." 21:15 Wow. God is good. 21:18 All the time, Natalie. 21:19 And when He's arranging your schedule, 21:21 He can arrange other people's schedules 21:23 so you have an opportunity to meet." 21:25 No coincidence with God. No. 21:27 Every time you make God, every time you let God 21:33 make the plans for you, He makes it so well. 21:37 He makes it so adventurous, He makes it so joyful. 21:40 Okay. 21:42 So, you know, it's so amazing to hear the testimonies 21:45 and the stories and you travel a lot. 21:49 Is there anything you do to share your travels 21:52 with people? 21:53 I have this thing, it's called the bed blog. 21:56 A bed blog? Bed blog. 21:58 It all started with just something for fun. 22:02 Because last couple of years ago 22:05 I was traveling for the Lord and in a two week span 22:10 I already had slept on eight beds. 22:13 So I'm thinking, "Oh, it would be cool 22:15 if I take a selfie of every bed that I sleep on." 22:18 And I post it on my Facebook 22:19 and people begin to respond that, 22:21 "Wow, Gem, God has been faithful. 22:23 This is your eighth bed." 22:24 And then I thought of this as a missionary tool, 22:27 as a ministry tool. 22:29 It's like a proof that God is faithful 22:33 to the people who follows His will 22:35 that He will never ever fail of providing us 22:38 a roof over our head and a pillow under our head. 22:41 So I begin posting it and I call this name 22:44 the bed blog. 22:46 And one particular time 22:48 when I was flying in for my birthday, 22:52 I arrived in California 22:53 and I woke up in the middle of the night 22:57 and the Lord just prompted me to spend time with Him 23:00 and I asked the Lord, "Lord, what do You want me to do?" 23:03 And the song came, 23:04 "Count your blessings name them one by one, 23:06 count your blessings and see what God has done." 23:09 And for that whole 12 months 23:12 the Lord had me recall my blessings 23:14 and I've been to four different countries 23:17 to 22 different states, 67 beds 23:22 and I'm thinking, "Wow, 67 beds, 23:25 that's more than the weeks in a year." 23:28 I begin to realize I sleep on more beds 23:31 than weeks in the year 23:33 and God is just so amazing, how He is faithful. 23:35 And the last, the last blessing that I focused on, 23:40 how many airplane rides, 65 airplane rides 23:44 and all of that are provided by God. 23:48 It is really true that we have to look back 23:50 on the Lord's faithfulness, Natalie. 23:53 Count your blessings and see what God has done, 23:56 and there you will begin to realize 23:58 it's not what you have done, it is all because of God. 24:03 I could not afford maybe 24:04 one tenth of those airplane rides, 24:07 I could not have organized maybe one twentieth 24:11 of those bed blogs that I have experienced. 24:15 It's all God. 24:17 That's what happens when we fully surrender 24:19 everything to Him. 24:21 He take care of everything even our beds. 24:25 That's awesome, God is awesome. 24:27 God is awesome. 24:28 That's wonderful how the Lord led you, 24:30 you know, during this week of prayer 24:32 that you are having with the young people. 24:34 And it's not just because of this 24:37 we can see that God's not asking you 24:39 just to have this walk with Him. 24:41 What is He doing in your ministry 24:44 as far as more of this kind of thing 24:46 mentoring young people? 24:48 This is one amazing thing, Natalie, 24:49 because when you experience the Lord's provision, 24:53 guidance and taking over your life, 24:56 you don't want to keep it to yourself. 24:59 You want to share it with other people. 25:01 And when you see other people take God seriously 25:04 it is just so inspiring. 25:06 So back home a lot of young people 25:08 have been inspired by the testimony 25:10 that Lord has given me 25:12 and they're taking God by His promises, 25:17 taking God at His word and you could see now 25:20 a lot of, a lot of young missionaries 25:23 are coming out of their comfort zone. 25:25 Young people who have dreams to go abroad 25:28 to work as a nurse or this or that... 25:31 To earn money. 25:33 To earn money, are putting their dreams aside 25:35 and following the Lord's will right now. 25:38 This is our dream to put up 25:43 an outpost for missionaries 25:46 to somehow lead them and guide them. 25:48 And this is what's going to happen 25:50 when we do youth conferences like 25:53 Philippine Youth for Christ. 25:54 And I will be talking more about that 25:56 to encourage young people to be and to do 26:01 what God asked them to do. 26:03 And I pray as well for adults to be supportive for this, 26:07 for these young people who are going 26:09 and finishing the work. 26:11 And we know for a fact that the promise is given 26:13 in the Spirit of Prophecy 26:15 that an army of youth rightly trained 26:18 will be the ones to finish this work. 26:20 Wow. It is amazing. 26:22 We've been to the conference, 26:23 the Philippine Youth for Christ Conference 26:25 that has come out of, these young people 26:27 catching on fire for God and it's beautiful, 26:30 it's beautiful to hear their testimonies 26:31 of how God is leading them too. 26:34 So where can people get a hold of you if they need, 26:36 if they would like to get in touch with you? 26:39 Maybe they could get in touch with me 26:41 with, through Facebook. 26:43 Okay. 26:45 They might not be able to have a friend request in, 26:51 but they could message me in messenger and Facebook, 26:53 Gem Castor. 26:54 Or they could e-mail me at gemcastoróprayer@yahoo.com. 27:00 Okay, gemcastoróprayer@yahoo.com. 27:05 Amen. And it's GEMCASTOR. 27:10 Yes. Okay. 27:11 Well, thank you, Gem for coming today 27:12 and sharing your stories with us. 27:14 And God's great. 27:17 Amen.
