00:22 - Hello, and welcome to Jesus for Asia now. 00:24 I'm Natalie Wood, and today my husband John 00:26 is here with me in the studio. 00:28 Hi darling. - Hi sweetheart. 00:30 - I'm so glad we can share this story 00:31 because it's such a beautiful story 00:33 of what God can do. - Yes. 00:34 - How it can change lives from 00:36 pretty hopeless actually. - [Jon] Yes. 00:40 - And, make them beautiful. - Oh yeah. 00:42 It's a beautiful story, really precious story, 00:44 and it gives me a lot of encouragement. 00:46 You know, this is why we do this. 00:48 If this was the only story we ever had, 00:51 it would all be worth while. - Right, right. 00:53 - Just to see the transformation 00:56 and the miracles that take place 00:58 in a young lady's life. - Right. 00:59 But before we get to the young lady, 01:02 we want to talk about how this story 01:03 came to pass, but we have to start 01:06 a little while ago. - [Jon] Yes. 01:07 - So let's start with Joshua Babor. 01:09 - Yup, Back in the 2000's, he was growing up 01:13 in the Pacific Northwest. 01:14 He was pretty carefree which meant he 01:16 was kind of a party guy. 01:18 He didn't really care much about life, 01:20 and you know he was living for himself. 01:23 - Right, didn't care about anyone else. 01:24 - Right, and somehow God got a hold of him, 01:27 and he started to realize that his life 01:29 could be so much better, and so he started 01:32 to seek after God, to follow God, 01:34 and before long he was baptized, 01:36 and then he became a bible worker. 01:38 - Right, right, and so God made a huge change 01:41 in his life. - Right. 01:42 - And his testimony is also powerful. 01:44 - Yes, and he's been on our show before. 01:46 - Right. 01:47 - So he was friends with Brian and Jessica Atwell. 01:49 - Right, and Brian and Jessica came 01:50 to 2012's Faith Camp in the Pacific Northwest 01:54 because they were coming to lead the prayer room. 01:56 - Right. 01:58 - And because of the situation at Faith Camp, 02:00 people don't go to their prayer room 02:02 during meetings- - Right. 02:04 - So they were able to go to some of the meetings 02:05 and start hearing some of the stories, 02:07 and then they saw there I Want This City Show. 02:10 - Yes, and they felt the conviction, 02:12 and called to move to Bangkok. 02:14 - Right. - And so when they came home, 02:15 after faith camp Josh is like 'Hey, how was it?' 02:18 and they were like we are going to Bangkok. 02:20 And Josh is like, 'Okay, I'll go too." 02:23 haha 02:24 - Yeah, and he actually ended up arriving in Bangkok 02:26 before they did. 02:28 - Yes 02:29 - So, Josh was a little bit lonely. He realized that 02:31 he needed a companion and so he started praying about 02:33 that, and he ended up meeting a beautiful young lady 02:36 named Chidlada 02:37 - Yes 02:39 - And um, they ended up getting married and they started 02:42 working together in a slum in Bangkok. 02:45 - Yeah well they were looking around of which church 02:46 they should go to and there was a small church in the 02:49 slum and so they started going to church there and they 02:52 felt comfortable, they went out every afternoon, several 02:55 afternoon to visit the neighborhood in the slum. It just 02:59 really felt connected. It started leading them into more 03:02 ministry in the slums, especially with the kids. 03:05 - Right, the children, the children got a hold of their 03:08 hearts. So I think we have a little video just showing 03:12 about that work. 03:13 - Yes 03:14 - Okay lets watch that at this time 03:16 - [Josh] You know a lot of these kids are getting 03:18 hit by their parents they're getting yelled at by their 03:20 parents, and that's the only interaction that they have. 03:22 And so, the one thing that I try to focus on is making 03:25 sure that they know that I love them and uh at first 03:29 when you when you tell them that you love them they 03:32 push you away like they they get really like put off by 03:35 it, you know. And uh the one little girl in particular uh 03:38 at first she was running from me and she didn't like it 03:42 and she would go and tell my wife uh uh and hit me and 03:45 things like that but now whenever she sees me she will 03:47 come up to me and she will hug me and wants me to hold 03:49 her and uh she enjoys the friendship that we have now. 03:56 People here are not as open as you think they would be 03:59 uh for help uh a lot of people here are very comfortable 04:03 on how they live uh you know when we go to houses, 04:07 the first thought that comes to my mind is how do 04:10 you live like this? You know, how can you be comfortable 04:13 like this, but they are. And everybody here is hurt, and 04:17 I mean physically, I mean they are all emotionally hurt 04:19 but they are all physically hurt too in some way, and 04:22 so we go and pray for them uh the the one thing that I think 04:26 I am lot of a lot of communities like this and a lot of uh 04:30 people who wanna help is one thing they lack is consistency 04:34 and that's the one thing that we are breed here is 04:38 consistency, um not loving the kids sometimes, not coming 04:42 here sometimes but every sight is, you know, I wanna 04:45 make it everyday and that's what were working for, um 04:49 and just to be here so they know that they have somebody 04:51 to turn to so they know that they have somebody whose 04:53 willing to help them um and someone who loves them 04:55 and wants the best for them. You know we have a lot to 04:58 pray for here, and a lot of work ahead of us. 05:01 - [Natalie] So they started getting more and more involved 05:04 there, and started teaching the kids ukulele and English 05:07 classes and different things like that and really connecting 05:10 - [Jon] Yes 05:11 - Really really connecting 05:12 - [Jon] Yeah, so there's a little video where um we see 05:15 them working with the kids in their ministry. 05:18 - Okay lets play that now 05:20 - Okay 05:21 - [Joshua] My motivation you know aside from this 05:24 is where god wants me to be and god has put me here um 05:27 besides that its their ignorance, that's my motivation 05:31 because I know that when I was a little kid, when I was 05:35 (pause) 05:37 even now, you know I don't really know what's good for me 05:40 and I know what I want but I don't know what's good for me 05:43 and you know I know they're the same way as that they don't 05:46 know what's good for them and they never had the opportunity 05:49 to have something that's good for them. And so that's what 05:52 motivates me to come here and to, to be with these kids 05:56 and to and to be with the people here because the kids 05:59 they have no choice, they didn't choose to live here, they 06:02 didn't choose to be poor, they didn't choose to be ignorant, 06:06 they didn't choose any of this, you know, their parents 06:08 chose it for them and they have no choice, and so I want 06:11 my my motivation is to show them another way. Show them that 06:14 the world is bigger than the slum, that there is 06:17 opportunity, they just have to grab it. I mean its the best 06:22 feeling in the world, you know when you get these little 06:24 kids uh that learn how to read, when you get the kids who 06:28 memorize a verse or memorize a song or learn how to play 06:31 ukulele, and and they love it, I mean its the most 06:35 rewarding feeling in the world. 06:40 - [Natalie] Such precious kids. 06:42 - [Jon] Yes very precious kids. I love how you know Josh 06:46 went from living for himself to living for others, and how 06:50 god took him out of a careless lifestyle into you know 06:53 giving him purpose and uh uh the love that he experienced 06:58 uh, he just shared with others. 07:00 - Right 07:01 - And his wife was such a, such a perfect um helper 07:05 for him. 07:05 - Right 07:07 - Just really brought in her own uh strengths and and and 07:11 and and and faith to to the ministry was going very well. 07:15 - Right, it was 07:17 - It was doing really well, but they started to realize 07:20 that to really help, to really make an impact with these 07:23 kids' lives, they had to take them out of that environment 07:27 because the way they think 07:29 - Right 07:30 - In the slum 07:32 - Right, its crazy. I mean its like they been there, and 07:37 they're always gonna be there, and so why change anything 07:40 just do what everyone around you does. You know those kinds 07:43 of things is very defeatus, its very 07:45 - Yeah negative, people would be negative towards who 07:48 you could be. They say you gonna be uh a druggie, you're 07:52 going to be a, your not going to mount to anything, why 07:55 even bother, why even try? And so this kind of mentality 07:59 uh, Josh was realizing was just fighting against everything 08:03 they were doing so they thought, we need to get these kids 08:06 out of this environment into an environment where they 08:08 can see with their own eyes and experience 08:11 a different kind of life. 08:13 - Right, right and so they started having a picture of 08:16 helping these kids to go to school 08:19 - Uh hm 08:20 - away from the slums. So they started raising funds 08:22 to sponsor them to go to Chiang Mai Adventist Academy. 08:26 - Yes, and so this next clip is when Josh is visiting the 08:30 academy for the first time and you can see he is very 08:33 excited about this vision for his kids. 08:34 - Okay 08:35 (music) 08:36 (kid shouting) 08:37 - [Josh] So we just got done with the meeting with the 08:39 administrator and the principal here at the 08:41 Chiang Mai Adventist Academy. Its gonna cost about a 1000 to 08:44 1200 dollars uh to send a student here, uh for a whole year. 08:49 This just seems like a really godly environment from 08:51 everything that they said. Environment that's really gonna 08:53 show them god's love uh and so we have the opportunity now 08:57 to send our kids, our scholarship kids here um to learn here 09:01 to learn about god here and to learn about how a 09:05 Christian lives their life here. 09:07 Hahaa 09:07 (clapping with kids) 09:10 - The small goals for right now uh just to love these kids 09:14 uh to show them that I want the best for them. Our medium 09:17 goals are to teach them and and showing them Jesus and 09:21 giving them opportunity um with the school, with the 09:25 scholarships, with with things that they don't have that uh 09:28 that kind of seem helpless to them they just opportunities 09:32 that they would never have if somebody didn't come down here 09:34 and didn't get to know them. 09:37 (music) 09:43 - [Jon] So this vision was developing in their minds about 09:45 sending these kids up there and at that point, their plan 09:48 was to stay in Bangkok. In fact they continued to stay in 09:50 Bangkok and sent two young people up to uh 09:54 Chiang Mai Adventist Academy. 09:56 - Right, one of them was a girl name Prauw, and the other 10:00 one was a boy. 10:01 - Named Nut 10:02 - Haha right 10:03 - Haha, now Chiang Mai Adventist Academy is about 10 or 12 10:06 hours north out of Bangkok, so its a pretty significant 10:09 distance away from where they were living. 10:12 - Right, right so these kids were completely out of the city 10:16 - Uh hm 10:17 - They were living in dormitories 10:19 - Uh hm 10:20 - On a beautiful campus with lots of trees and everything 10:22 and so it was a very very big change. 10:26 - Yes. But you know even though you have a change in 10:30 environment, it doesn't mean you have a change of your 10:32 history and your past. 10:34 - Right 10:35 - And maybe you should set up the story because its its 10:37 we have, we put the whole thing in its entirety together 10:40 because its such a moving and powerful story. 10:43 - Right. I'd like to warn our viewers that now would be a 10:46 good time to get a box of cleanex because this a powerful 10:49 story, and um I know I will need them 10:54 and so I, 10:56 yeah here is the video of Prauw telling her own story. 11:19 (music) 11:43 - [Josh] So Prauw was the the daughter that we came 11:46 up her for. She 11:49 was born to a 11:50 13 year old meth-addicted 11:52 mother. Um by two years old she was living with her aunt who 11:57 was in a drug house 11:59 and she 12:01 was neglected, um kinda like a 12:03 Cinderella story um, and I guess we are the happy ending to 12:08 that story. Um but she was abused, uh, physically, mentally 12:14 sexually, every way that you can imagine which led her into 12:18 drug and alcohol abuse, um this is by 13-14 years old. 12:24 15-16 years old she was involved in prostitution. 12:27 (birds chirping) 12:30 (music) 12:54 (music) 14:15 (music) 14:34 - [Josh] Her story is very long and its very hard 14:39 and I say to myself that if I would've 14:43 if I would've grew 14:44 up in the same atmosphere and I would have went through the 14:47 same things that she went through, I would have committed 14:50 suicide a long time ago. 14:53 (music) 15:28 - When we heard about this we immediately came up here. 15:32 We saw her in the hospital. We started praying 15:34 'God what do you want us to do? How do we correct this 15:38 situation? How do we make this better?' We prayed and we 15:42 prayed and we just thinking about everything we prayed it 15:47 just felt like it just kept coming back to us the parable 15:50 of the lost sheep, that we needed to leave the 99 to take 15:53 care of the one. So we left Bangkok, we left our ministry, 15:57 we left everything to come and take care of one girl. 17:04 - My wife did not want to be here. She had everything that 17:09 she had worked her whole life for in Bangkok. She had, God 17:12 had blessed her with an amazing job. She had everything 17:16 that she wanted, all her friends, we had our ministry and 17:19 we didn't have to rely on anybody else or donations or 17:23 anything because my wife was the one who was mainly 17:27 supporting it and she liked it. 17:31 But when God calls you, 17:34 you know you have to answer and when God called us to come 17:38 up here, we came. We didn't think we were gonna stay when 17:42 we came and I told her 'Lets just go try it for one week' 17:46 and the one week turned into lets just try it for one month. 17:50 And then the one month turned into this is what God wants 17:54 us to do. 17:55 (music) 18:12 (kids talking Thai) 18:20 (music) 20:34 - [Josh] The girl that she was to the women that she is now 20:37 is amazing and its a testament to God's love because we 20:43 are not the best parents. We fail, we get mad, we get angry 20:47 uh, we are not fair you know and uh we are not the best 20:52 parents but the love that god has given to her and us and 20:58 the love that God has given her to bring her to us and 21:02 to draw her out uh from where she was uh 21:08 its life changing for her 21:10 and it it really is life changing for us as well 21:12 to see uh uh just everything that has happened knowing the 21:16 beginning and seeing what its turned into. 21:20 (music) 21:47 (music) 22:03 - [Natalie] Yeah, uh haha, we had to get the cleanex. 22:06 - [Jon] Yeah hahah 22:07 - So powerful what god has done in all of their lives. 22:11 I mean reality to take Josh and Chitty from the work that 22:18 they know God had called them to, to give all of that and 22:21 go for one. 22:23 - Yeah and it was 22:24 - And give up her job and everything. It just. 22:26 - Its amazing because you know 22:30 I was talking, Josh would 22:32 call me and talk about the situation when they went up 22:35 to see her and saw, that even though was in a good place, 22:39 physically she had a lota lota things to process. A lot of 22:44 a lot of pain to deal with and they were looking around 22:48 all over the place looking for somebody that would take 22:50 care of her. Um, and they couldn't find anybody so he's he 22:54 told me he says you know I'm thinking that we should be 22:56 become her parents. That we should move up here and like 23:00 just like adopt her. And I was just like that is such 23:04 a picture of God. This such a picture of God to sacrifice 23:07 everything for one. 23:10 - Right 23:11 - For you know, to leave the 90 and 9 and go after the one 23:14 lost sheep. 23:15 - Right 23:17 - And when they did that, when they decided to do that 23:18 its a lot of miracles surrounding that 23:20 - Right 23:21 - to enable them to do that, and when they did that its 23:23 like she saw, wow! Somebody cares. 23:26 - Right 23:27 - Somebody cares. 23:28 - Right 23:29 - And the 23:30 - And they didn't just do that and that was the end of it 23:33 - No 23:34 - You know its like they did that and they lived the life 23:36 of love that causes that to be. 23:39 - Right 23:40 - You know caused them to be willing to do that. 23:42 - Right 23:44 - So they lived that life of love continually with her 23:46 - Yes 23:47 - And then she saw I mean, she started getting a hold of the 23:49 value that God put on her. 23:51 - Yes 23:53 - Because of what they were willing to do for her 23:54 - Exactly, exactly. And so they helped her process through 23:58 a lot the pain and there's still dealing with it, but its 24:01 an amazing thing for a young lady to to to make the 24:05 confession that she did on this video. 24:07 - I know. 24:09 - Um, most people don't do that but Josh encouraged her 24:11 this will encourage others that God loves them and that they 24:16 have value and there's hope 24:18 - Right 24:19 (laughs calmly) 24:20 - Right, she's a very brave girl. 24:21 - Yes, and to see her now, I mean you could see her when she 24:24 smiled, I mean its like the whole room lights up. 24:26 She's got an electric smile that comes from the heart and 24:29 she realizes her value that she has in god. 24:32 - Right. And I love how when Chitty was sharing their 24:35 what she would do she would go around and help people, 24:37 - Yes 24:39 - If anyone needed you know a massage, she would give 'em a 24:40 massage. She was gathering the children in the neighborhood 24:42 and teaching them to play and sing. 24:44 - Yes 24:45 - You know just, it just really um, 24:47 - She's become a little missionary. 24:49 - Right uh 24:50 - Yeah 24:51 - And and its that love that she's receiving, she's then 24:52 imparting to others. 24:54 - Yes and this is the, this is the gospel. 24:57 - Right 24:58 - This is the kingdom. 24:58 - Live 24:59 - This is how it works. 25:00 - Live 25:02 - Exactly. The next chapter that were not gonna be able to 25:04 tell much here is that recently she went back down to the 25:08 slum to visit her family and discovered that she had two 25:12 younger siblings that she didn't know about. 25:14 - Hmm 25:16 - Her mom, is not the most virtuous women. 25:19 - Right 25:21 - And so she went and found these siblings and they were in 25:23 a really bad situation living with um uh relative that 25:27 could hardly take care of herself. She was mostly blind, 25:29 mostly invalid, and so they were completely abandoned um 25:33 just fending for themselves and she just cried and cried 25:37 and cried and cried, and well I'm getting ahead of myself, 25:40 but anyway there's two young children that now have a story 25:46 that we have to tell. 25:47 - Right, in another episode because there's not enough time 25:50 today. 25:51 - Yes 25:52 - But coming soon, there will be the story of wind and sky. 25:55 - Yes 25:57 - And we should not that Preaw what we call her, its kind of 25:59 a nickname and a lot of people in Thailand don't go by their 26:02 given name 26:03 - Yes 26:04 - They go by a nickname of some kind. So 26:06 - Can you pronounce her her real name? 26:07 - Boonyada 26:08 - Okay, pretty good hahah 26:09 - I don't know hahah 26:11 - I'm probably doing it completely wrong because it's a 26:13 tonal language but anyway um, we call her Preaw. 26:17 - So, yeah we call her Preaw. So when they moved up there 26:19 and took Preaw in, they started realizing hey there's other 26:23 kids that need this kind of, they need a home atmosphere. 26:26 - Right 26:28 - They need somebody to love them and to show them the right 26:29 way to go. 26:30 - Right 26:31 - And they didn't wanna, they didn't wanna have a big 26:33 dormitory style uh like an orphanage or children's home 26:37 but they wanna have a home environment where they live and 26:41 work together as a family. 26:42 - Right 26:44 - And so, this last year they've grown to seven kids. 26:47 - Um hm 26:48 - And they're coming up this next year they're talking about 26:51 maybe 13 kids. 26:53 - Yeah, that's a lot of children. 26:56 - And 26:57 - But there are, they are getting contacted from pastors 26:59 and and different leaders from different areas of the 27:01 country saying can you take care of this child while they're 27:04 up there because they their home environment is very poor 27:08 - Right 27:09 - And they can't send them or their home environment is 27:11 non-existent 27:12 - Right 27:13 - And, so its they're getting a lot of calls for help 27:15 - Right 27:17 - I love this story of Preaw and how is God changing her 27:19 heart and has changed her life so dramatically already. 27:21 And I know that he's working in the lives of the other 27:24 children that are living in their home as well. 27:26 - Absolutely 27:28 - And I can't wait to be able to share some of their stories 27:29 as well. 27:30 - Yeah 27:32 - The Bouter Family obviously needs a lot of prayer for 27:34 these challenges that we just talked about. Its so beautiful 27:38 that God has changed Preaw's life so dramatically. If you 27:42 would like to be a part of making changes in the child's 27:44 life like that, you can send your text to Dr. Belovkey to 27:48 Jesus for Asia.
