00:24 and welcome to Bible Buzz, 00:26 where we take a look at some awesome stories 00:29 in the B-I-B-L-E. 00:32 That's right. 00:33 And then we quiz you, 00:35 to see just how much you remember. 00:37 Bible Buzz, I like that name Bible Buzz. 00:41 Neto, do you like bees? 00:43 I hate them. What! 00:45 Why do you hate bees? I'm allergic to them. 00:47 When they sting me, it's really bad. 00:49 I see, but Neto, Neto. 00:51 You couldn't possibly be afraid of our kids here today. 00:55 Are you? I'm so glad they're with us. 01:48 All right. 01:50 So, Neto, I'm ready for this story, 01:52 how about you? 01:53 What is the story today about? 01:54 Oh, it's a good story. 01:56 You see the Bible, especially the Old Testament, 01:59 includes a lot of stories of great conquest. 02:02 These were times when nations came 02:05 and overtook other nations 02:08 and they were stronger and bigger than them 02:10 and they took over their city. 02:13 One record is found in the Book of Daniel. 02:16 How many of you know the Book of Daniel? 02:18 Oh, it's one of my favorite books in the Bible. 02:20 And in Daniel Chapter 1, 02:23 there is an amazing story about nation 02:27 that overtook another nation. 02:29 The nation was the nation of Babylon. 02:31 The nation of what, everyone? 02:32 Babylon! 02:34 Say that a little louder, I can't hear you. 02:36 The nation of what? 02:37 Babylon! 02:38 Babylon, that's right, that's right. 02:40 I heard that one. 02:41 And they overtook the city of Jerusalem 02:45 and it was huge. 02:47 They came in there, guys, you know what they did? 02:49 You know what they did? 02:50 You aren't gonna believe this, Les, you know what they did? 02:52 They went in there 02:53 and they took all the items of the sanctuary. 02:56 Took them all out, took them with them 02:59 and they also took people captive. 03:04 But they were very selective 03:05 on who they were gonna take captive. 03:07 They were looking for the strongest, 03:10 the healthiest men they could find 03:14 'cause they took them captive 03:16 and when they took them to Babylon. 03:17 You know what the king did? 03:19 Which by the way, 03:20 what was the name of the king of Babylon? 03:23 Its sounds like Nato. 03:26 Doesn't it? No. 03:27 No. No. What's his name? 03:29 King Nebuchadnezzar. 03:31 Nebuchadnezzar, that is precisely right. 03:35 King Nebuchadnezzar, what he did was this, 03:37 he would bring in the captives 03:39 and they would enroll them in a school. 03:42 Do you like school? 03:43 Who like school? Yeah. 03:45 Awesome. 03:46 They enrolled them in a school 03:47 where they had to learn some very specific things. 03:50 They were at least three things they were taught. 03:53 One is, they were taught 03:54 the Babylonian customs, the language. 03:57 The Babylonian customs, the practices, 04:00 the way they live their life and even, get this. 04:03 And even the Babylonian religion. 04:07 Hmm, the Babylonian religion. 04:09 And four of these Hebrew captives 04:12 were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. 04:17 And they were four Hebrew captives 04:20 that were brought into the school 04:22 and you know what? 04:23 In the school, 04:25 they were thought that the king 04:27 was not just another king, not in Babylon. 04:30 In Babylon, get this, Neto, 04:32 they were taught that the king was God. 04:35 What? The king is like a God. 04:37 Yeah. Really? 04:38 Really. 04:40 And even get this, 04:41 even the food that the king "remember God" 04:45 appointed for people to eat. 04:48 When they ate it, it was an act of worship. 04:52 They were worshipping the king as God, 04:55 when they ate his food. 04:57 Wow! 04:58 Isn't that something? Weird. 04:59 And so in Babylon, Daniel found himself 05:03 in this very very difficult situation. 05:06 But you know what, boys and girls. 05:08 Oh, I love Daniel and this is why, 05:10 because Daniel purposed in his heart. 05:13 You know what that means? 05:15 Purposed in his heart. He made a choice. 05:18 He made what, everyone? A choice. 05:20 A choice, you made a choice today. 05:22 We make choices all the time. 05:23 Daniel purposed in his heart, 05:25 he made a choice that he would not compromise. 05:30 Now, this is a long word, compromise. 05:33 Do you know what compromise means? 05:36 Compromise. 05:38 Does anybody know what that means? 05:40 Let's see. What does compromise means? 05:41 It means to not do things properly and to... 05:44 Because they are hard to, just take a shortcut. 05:48 Neto, that was spot on. 05:52 That was a great answer. Thank you, my friend. 05:54 That was a great answer. 05:56 Precisely, it means that you or you're not gonna be 06:00 going left and right, and right and left. 06:02 You gonna be focused, 06:03 you're not gonna compromise, 06:05 you're not gonna change your mind. 06:06 You gonna make a decision and stick with it. 06:08 And Daniel purposed in his heart in, 06:11 and then he found himself in a situation 06:13 where he would be tested. 06:15 Have you ever been tested? 06:17 You gonna be tested here in a little bit. 06:19 But Daniel, he was really, really tested. 06:22 This is what happened. 06:23 Daniel and his friends found themselves 06:26 in the kitchen and the steward came 06:28 with the menu and he said, 06:30 "Guys, this is what the king wants you to eat." 06:33 But Daniel purposed in his heart, 06:35 that he would not compromise and he said, 06:38 "I can't worship the king by eating of his food. 06:41 I'm gonna worship the one true creator God, 06:44 who created the heavens and the earth 06:46 and He has appointed to me, what we shall eat. 06:49 I'm gonna eat vegetables and water." 06:52 And the steward said, "What? 06:55 You can't do that." 06:56 And Daniel said, "Why not?" 06:58 And the steward said, "'Cause you're gonna get weak, 07:01 you're gonna get sick, you're gonna die. 07:04 We can't let you do that. 07:05 The king's gonna kill me, 07:07 if I give you something different." 07:09 But Daniel said, "Tell the king, 07:12 that we'll do this for just 10 days." 07:14 How many days, everyone? 07:15 Ten. 07:17 Ten days, and after the 10 days 07:20 will take a look at who looks healthier 07:23 and who looks stronger and we'll go from there." 07:26 All right. Let's do this. 07:28 "Let's do this," the king said. 07:29 And so then, for 10 days 07:32 they ate vegetables and drank water. 07:36 Do you guys eat your vegetables? 07:38 Yeah. I do. 07:39 Oh, some of you do, but some of you don't. 07:42 Well, Daniel did, he loved vegetables. 07:44 And so they ate this for 10 days. 07:46 After 10 days, it was unbelievable. 07:48 Unbelievable. 07:50 They are very weak and sick and... 07:54 And... You're right. 07:56 But who look like that? Daniel and his friends. 07:57 Did Daniel and his friends look like that? 07:59 Or did the other guys look like that? 08:01 The other guys! 08:02 Other guys. The other guys look like that. 08:05 And after 10 days, 08:06 it was unbelievable the difference between the two. 08:09 Really? 08:10 And the king was pleased, and the king said, "Wow! 08:13 I'm impressed. 08:15 Daniel keep doing what you're doing, 08:17 keep eating what you're eating, 08:19 because you have proved that it is the better way." 08:23 And Daniel was able to glorify God 08:26 with his choices 08:28 and that's because, boys and girls, 08:30 Daniel was faithful. 08:32 He did not compromise, 08:34 he was true to his belief in God 08:37 and nothing would change his mind. 08:40 That was our story for today. 08:42 Don't go away, 'cause when we come back, 08:44 we're gonna test you 08:45 to see just how much you remember. 08:47 So we'll be right back. |
