I was waiting for you to ask. 01:59 Are you guys ready for a story? 02:01 Yes! All right. 02:02 Well, the story I'm going to tell you today 02:05 is about a woman named Hannah. 02:08 Hannah was a dear woman and she had so many things 02:13 to be thankful for. 02:14 But there was one thing, one thing that she really, 02:20 really wanted very bad. 02:22 Ice cream. 02:24 Something even greater than ice cream. 02:27 Two ice creams. 02:29 Even greater than two ice cream. 02:31 You know what she wanted? What? 02:32 All her life as she was growing up, 02:34 she always dreamed about being a mother. 02:37 She wanted a baby. 02:39 How many of you girls like to play with dolls? 02:41 You all play with dolls? 02:42 Oh, it's fun to play with dolls. 02:44 Well, Hannah played with dolls, 02:45 but she grew and became a woman. 02:48 She want to have a baby, but she could not. 02:53 And she would pray to God, and she would say, 02:56 "God, please, please, please give me a baby." 03:00 And Hannah would go to the temple 03:02 several times a day to pray, 03:05 and she would drop down on the ground, 03:07 and she was earnest about it. 03:09 She would plead with God, say, "Please, please!" 03:13 And one day, she was so earnest, 03:15 and she told God, "God, I will make you a promise." 03:20 She says, "If you would give me a baby," 03:22 she says," I promise 03:24 that this baby will serve in the temple." 03:29 Ah! I think you're right. 03:31 She said that he would serve in the temple, 03:34 and she made this promise too, she says, 03:37 "And I promise that I will never cut his hair." 03:42 Did you guys know that? 03:43 That's what she prayed. That's what she prayed. 03:47 And so she made these vows. 03:48 And as she was praying, the priests of the temple 03:53 one day noticed that, "Oh, who is that? 03:56 Who is that woman praying?" 03:58 Because she was so agonizing with God 04:01 and Eli, his name was Eli. 04:03 He said... Ooh, that's the priest, right? 04:04 The priest. He said, "Oh, that woman... 04:08 That woman is really praying seriously 04:10 with all of her heart." 04:12 And he told that woman, "Listen..." 04:14 No, he said that the rains brought. 04:15 You're right. 04:16 See, these kids are sharp, Neto. 04:18 They know the story. They know... 04:19 They know the story, yeah. 04:20 Hey, maybe they should whip in, Neto. 04:22 You and I should probably sit down 04:24 and have the kids come up here and tell us the story. 04:26 Let them tell the story. Yeah! 04:29 We'll think about that for next time. 04:31 All right, so then... 04:32 So then Eli said that woman, 04:35 God is going to hear her prayers. 04:37 Well, sure enough guess what, God answered her prayer. 04:41 Hannah had a baby and she was so happy, 04:45 she was so happy. 04:46 Was that a cute baby? Oh, extremely cute. 04:49 She made her heart just full of joy. 04:52 And Hannah remembered, "Oh, I did make a promise. 04:56 So I must fulfill my promise." 04:59 So what was her promise? 05:00 She took the baby boy and took him where? 05:03 To the temple. To the temple, that's right. 05:05 Oh, and she did not touch his hair. 05:08 And so she named the boy, Samuel. 05:12 Samuel. 05:13 Do you know what the name Samuel means? 05:16 Do you know what the name Samuel means? 05:17 Let's see. 05:19 Samuel means because God gave him to me. 05:21 Very good, Leah. God gave him to me. 05:24 Samuel. 05:26 And Samuel grew up in the temple. 05:28 And he would every day, he would do chores. 05:31 You have chores, don't you? 05:34 Half of you don't, half of you do. 05:36 How about you at home? Do you have chores? 05:38 I'm sure you do. Kids have chores. 05:40 There's things you got to do. 05:42 When you wake up in the morning, 05:43 there are things you got to do and Samuel knew 05:45 that there were chores to be done. 05:47 And Samuel would sweep the floor in the temple. 05:50 And what else do you think he did, Neto? 05:52 He probably polished the furniture. 05:54 Make sure it was bright and shiny. 05:55 Wash the dishes. What's that? 05:57 Wash the dishes. Wash the dishes. 05:59 And I'm sure he helped 06:02 with the duties of the priest... 06:04 Everything that he had to do. In the temple. 06:06 He followed Eli wherever Eli went. 06:09 And so Samuel grew up and did all this work. 06:12 And so these were long days, and it made him 06:15 very tired at the end of the day. 06:17 And so they would go to bed early 06:19 and Samuel would lay down and close his eyes. 06:22 And one night, something very strange happened. 06:25 Late at night, Samuel, all of a sudden woke up 06:29 'cause he thought he heard something. 06:31 Ah! And he listened. 06:33 Samuel! Samuel! 06:36 And Samuel jumped out of bed, and he said, 06:39 "Eli is calling me." 06:40 So he ran to Eli, and he said, "Eli, Eli, wake up. 06:44 Didn't you just call me?" 06:46 And Eli said, "No, Samuel, no. 06:50 Back to bed, boy, just go back to bed." 06:53 So he did. He was obedient. So he went back to bed. 06:56 And a few moments later, same voice, "Samuel! 07:00 Samuel!" He jumped out of bed again. 07:03 Eli must have changed his mind he thought. 07:06 So he ran to Eli, and he said, 07:08 "Eli, Eli, you're calling me again." 07:12 And Eli said, "No, I'm not. 07:16 You must be hearing things. Go back to bed, boy. 07:19 Go back to bed." 07:21 And guess what, it happened once, twice, three times. 07:25 Samuel heard the same voice, and he returned to Eli. 07:30 And he said, "Eli, I'm not going crazy. 07:33 I've heard you call me three times now." 07:36 And Eli thought, I think I know what is happening. 07:41 And he told Samuel, "Samuel, I tell you what, 07:46 when you hear the voice again, I want you to stay in your bed, 07:51 but I want you to look up towards heaven, 07:54 and I want you to, say, 'Lord, speak, I'm listening.' 07:59 And just listen for a still small voice. 08:03 Will you do that, Samuel?" 08:05 Okay, Eli, that's what I'll do. 08:07 And so he went back to bed and sure enough, 08:10 a few moments later, he heard that same voice, Neto, 08:13 "Samuel, Samuel!" 08:16 And Samuel looked up towards heaven, and he said, 08:18 "Lord, I'm listening." 08:21 And he was quiet, and he heard a still small voice. 08:26 And God, boys and girls, gave Samuel 08:30 an important message 08:32 because when you listen to God, He will speak to you. 08:36 When we... 08:37 When we open our ears of faith, and we say, 08:41 "Lord, do you have something that you want to tell us?" 08:44 God speaks in many different ways, 08:47 and God spoke to Samuel. 08:49 That's our story for today. 08:51 And, boys and girls, if you're at home, stay with us 08:54 'cause when we come back, 08:55 we're going to take a quiz on this story, 08:58 and we're looking forward to seeing you soon. |
