I don't know. 04:41 But, but, but, but man, 04:43 King Ahab, he was not happy. 04:45 And he blamed Elijah for a famine 04:47 that had just taken place. 04:49 And so Elijah, 04:51 just stood up before the king and said, 04:53 "Listen, King, listen, enough is enough. 04:58 We're having all these problems 04:59 because you can't make up your mind. 05:02 You think you serve God, 05:04 but you also worship Baal. 05:05 Come on King, 05:07 you can't have it both ways. 05:08 You have to choose who you will serve. 05:12 And so this is what we're gonna do King, 05:14 we're gonna have a showdown. 05:16 I want to meet at Mount Carmel with 400 and, 05:20 let's make it 50, 05:22 450 of your prophets of Baal, 05:24 and I'm going to meet them up at the mountaintop, 05:27 and we gonna have a show down. 05:28 I'll see you there." 05:30 And so then Elijah left. 05:32 And soon enough, 05:34 there was a huge gathering 05:35 of people on Mount Carmel. 05:37 What did they do? 05:38 They sang or they, they... 05:39 Oh, man, the word got out. 05:41 This was gonna be a showdown, Neto, a showdown. 05:43 Like a dancing one? 05:45 Oh, yeah, there was some dancing, 05:46 we'll get to that in a minute. 05:47 So, all these prophets show up and hundreds, no, 05:51 maybe even thousands of people 05:53 show up to the mountaintop. 05:54 And here's Elijah all by himself standing tall, 05:57 he was, brave. 05:59 He was not afraid. 06:00 But he was alone. 06:01 And then on this side, 06:03 he had, imagine, 450 prophets of Baal, 06:06 and they look pretty scary, 06:08 I would think. 06:09 Really? Oh, yeah, 06:11 prophets of Baal, Neto. 06:12 They were scary kind of guys. 06:14 Yeah, face paint and all kinds of stuff. 06:17 They look, they looked really scary. 06:20 And so this was the test. 06:21 They made an agreement, 06:23 they said, all right, this is what we're gonna do. 06:24 We're gonna build two altars, 06:26 and we're going to provide a sacrifice 06:30 on top of each altar. 06:32 And then we're going to do this. 06:34 Prophets of Baal, you're going to have to call upon your gods, 06:39 and I'm gonna have to call upon my God, 06:42 and whoever answers by fire, 06:45 he is the true God. 06:48 And the prophets of Baal said, deal. 06:51 And so, Elijah said, you start. 06:54 And so all the prophets of Baal 06:55 got together around that altar, 06:58 and, Neto, you got a good imagination. 07:00 What did the prophets of Baal start to do? 07:03 Dancing? 07:04 They did. They did, can you demonstrate, Neto? 07:07 They yelled a little bit. Can you demonstrate? 07:08 Yeah, yeah, demonstrate. 07:11 Something like that. 07:12 And Elijah was like... 07:15 What was that? 07:17 That was a dance. 07:18 You gotta be a little crazie than that, 07:19 because obviously you didn't get their attention. 07:22 Come on, do a little crazier dance. 07:27 And Elijah was like, 07:30 maybe a little louder 07:32 because they didn't hear you. 07:34 So a little louder, please. 07:39 Fire, down. 07:41 And Elijah was like, 07:43 you know what? 07:44 Maybe they're away. 07:45 Maybe they're away on vacation. 07:48 Elijah was like being so hilarious. 07:50 He was telling the prophets of Baal. 07:52 Your gods aren't listening to you. 07:55 Well, duh, because the prophets, 07:58 the gods of Baal were not true gods. 08:02 They were not listening 08:03 because the gods of Baal were gods 08:06 of stone and of rock. 08:08 They didn't, they were not like the true God that hears prayer. 08:12 Not only were they doing crazy dances and weird sounds, 08:16 these guys were cutting themselves. 08:18 It was pretty, pretty crazy scene. 08:21 They were cutting themselves 08:23 and making all this mess and noise. 08:26 And nothing, guys, 08:28 nothing happened, nothing. 08:31 And after a while Elijah said, 08:32 all right, guys, step aside. 08:34 It's my turn. 08:35 And Elijah stepped up to the altar. 08:37 And he looked up towards heaven. 08:38 But before he did that, 08:40 he thought to himself, 08:41 these guys are going to think I'm going 08:42 to pull a fast one here. 08:44 So he said, just to be sure 08:45 that the people don't think I'm cheating. 08:47 I'm going to ask people 08:48 to come throw buckets, 08:50 buckets of water on the altar, 08:52 just soak it with water, 08:53 so that nobody will say later, 08:56 it was a trick. 08:57 Someone put fire under the altar 08:59 when we weren't watching. 09:00 Elijah's gonna say no, no, no, no. 09:02 Cover this place with water. 09:04 And they will know that there is no, 09:06 there is no joke here. 09:07 This is serious stuff, serious. 09:09 What happened? 09:10 And so Elijah stood up before God, 09:12 and before all the people 09:14 and he said a simple prayer, 09:16 boys and girls, he said, 09:17 Lord, God, the God of Israel, 09:20 hear me today, 09:22 show these people that You are the true God. 09:27 That's basically what he said, 09:29 straight prayer, very direct. 09:31 And, boys and girls, 09:33 what happened next, 09:35 we cannot even imagine what that looked like. 09:38 It must have been absolutely 09:40 breathtaking to see this, this, 09:43 this, this fire coming down from heaven, 09:46 a straight shot all the way down from heaven, 09:48 straight into the altar 09:49 and consuming this altar. 09:54 And the people were just like, 09:57 they couldn't believe what they saw. 09:58 Their mouth just dropped open, 10:00 when they saw fire coming down 10:03 from heaven and consuming that altar, 10:05 and all they could say, guys, 10:06 all they could say was, wow! 10:10 The Lord, He is God. 10:11 The Lord, He is God. 10:13 Maybe you can say that with me. 10:15 If you're watching from home, 10:16 join us, alrighty, 10:17 let's say that on the count of three. 10:19 One, two, three. 10:20 The Lord, He is God. 10:22 Again. 10:23 The Lord, He is God. 10:24 That's what the people began to say. 10:27 And you know what, guys? 10:28 That day, God, 10:29 the true God was glorified. 10:32 And there was no compromise 10:34 among the people because they finally 10:37 made a choice, the Lord, He is God. 10:41 That's our story for today. 10:43 And we're going to be back in just 10:44 a few moments where we're going 10:46 to be quizzed to see just how much we remember. 10:49 We'll be right back. |
