That's so cool. 03:25 Who here has what sometimes called a best friend? 03:30 Now, I want to ask you another question. 03:32 What makes someone a friend? 03:36 What does it mean to be a friend? 03:38 They be kind and help each other out 03:41 and are nice to people. 03:44 And they make you feel happy. 03:47 Oh, I love that answer. 03:49 They're kind, they make you feel good. 03:52 That is so good. Anyone else? 03:53 One more who wants to share what it means to be a friend. 03:56 To be kind. 03:58 To be kind. 03:59 Yes, friends are always kind. 04:01 Do you guys think, 04:03 can you be friends with someone 04:05 who you haven't spent any time with? 04:07 We can be nice to them, 04:09 be kind and to get to know them. 04:10 Yeah, definitely, 04:12 we should be nice and kind to everyone. 04:14 But the secret ingredient of being a friend 04:16 is spending time together and getting to know someone 04:20 to the point in which you trust them. 04:22 So the story we're going to learn about today 04:25 is a man named Abraham. 04:27 Who here has heard before about the story of Abraham? 04:31 That's awesome. I've heard it. 04:33 I love that story. 04:34 Yeah, it's one of my favorites, too. 04:36 And this story begins with Abraham 04:39 and his family in a faraway country 04:42 called Ur of the Chaldees, Ur. 04:45 Who would want to live in a place called Ur? 04:49 Anyways, while he was there in Ur, 04:52 something special happened. 04:54 God introduced and showed Himself 04:57 to Abraham in a very special way. 05:00 Who knows what God asked Abraham to do? 05:04 Anyone here? No? 05:06 Go away. Yeah, that's right. 05:08 God showed up to Abraham and He told him, 05:11 He asked him to let go of everything he knew 05:15 and to go to a faraway land where he never been before, 05:18 to the land of Canaan, to the land of Canaan. 05:22 What do you really... 05:23 Do you think that you'd really have to trust somebody 05:25 if you were to give up everything 05:27 you had to go and follow, 05:29 you know, wherever they told you to go? 05:31 Yes. 05:32 Yeah, you'd really have to trust someone. 05:33 Have any of you ever trusted someone 05:37 to just go and do whatever they told you? 05:40 What about our parents? 05:42 Yes. Yeah. 05:43 Do you trust their parents? 05:44 Yes. 05:46 Who here trust their parents? 05:47 Yeah, you trust your parents 05:48 because they've been with you your whole life, 05:51 and they love you and they care about you. 05:52 And Abraham realized that he had a friend in God, 05:57 and He can trust Him. 05:58 And so, he said, okay, God, 06:00 you want me to leave everything here in Ur of the Chaldees 06:04 and go to this land of Canaan? 06:06 Well, then I'll go. 06:08 And so off he went. 06:09 And as he was making his way there, 06:12 he brought his nephew. 06:13 Who knows what the name of the nephew of Abraham was? 06:17 Lot. Lot. 06:19 And once they got there to Canaan, 06:21 they began to, to spread out. 06:25 And Abraham had a lot of animals, 06:28 he had a lot of livestock and sheep and goats. 06:30 And so, he had all that and he came. 06:33 And there was one time 06:35 where Lot and Abraham had a disagreement. 06:39 There was a certain plot of land. 06:41 And there were so many animals that they were like, hey, 06:45 how can we make room for both of us. 06:48 And so even though Uncle Abraham 06:51 had the right to say, you know what? 06:54 I'm the older one, and I can get whatever I want. 06:57 He decided to say, you know what? 06:59 I'm gonna be a humble guy, and I'm gonna let Lot, 07:03 my younger nephew have the land that he wants. 07:06 Shall we say, I'm right, 07:08 and everything I say goes and that's how it has to be? 07:11 No. 07:13 No, we should take a humble attitude 07:15 and put others before ourselves. 07:18 You see, Abraham had spent lots of time with God to know 07:22 that God puts us first even before Himself, 07:26 God cares about us. 07:27 So Abraham wanted to reflect 07:29 that to his younger nephew, Lot. 07:32 You see, when God brought Abraham 07:35 to the land of Canaan, 07:36 who knows what he was promised? 07:38 What did God promise He would give to Abraham? 07:40 He promised to give him a son. 07:42 He promised him that he would give him a son. 07:45 That's right. 07:46 And through a son, 07:48 how many children would Abraham get? 07:50 As much as the stars. 07:52 Whoa, as many as the stars. 07:54 That's a lot of children. 07:57 Whoa. 07:58 There was another way that God told 08:01 how many descendants Abraham would have. 08:03 He said the stars of heaven is one way, 08:05 if you can count how many there are, 08:07 that's how many kids you are gonna have. 08:08 But what was the other thing He said? 08:10 Carter? And the sand by the sea. 08:12 That's right, the sand. 08:14 You can think of it this way, the stars and the sand. 08:17 Can you count how many pieces of sand are there 08:20 all over the world? 08:21 No way. No way. 08:23 It's way too many. 08:25 And so, Abraham was running into a difficulty. 08:28 You see, he began to think, okay, 08:30 God has promised me the land and I guess I'm here, 08:33 I'm in the land of Canaan, but my wife Sarah. 08:38 She's not getting pregnant. 08:40 She's not. 08:41 I don't have a kid. 08:42 And so, he decided to try 08:44 to come up with his own way of doing things, 08:49 his own way of getting a child. 08:52 But even though he disobeyed God 08:54 and distrusted Him, did God cast him away? 08:58 No. No, God still used him, okay? 09:02 And eventually God came back to Abraham, Abraham. 09:06 And he told him that, hey, Abraham, 09:08 you're gonna have a son. 09:09 And who knows that the name of Abraham's promised son? 09:13 Isaac. 09:15 Isaac, that's right, Isaac. 09:17 Now who here knows what the name Isaac means? 09:20 Carter? It means laughter. 09:22 It means laughter. Wow, I'm so glad you knew that. 09:25 Who here likes to laugh? 09:28 I like to laugh too. 09:30 Sometimes our friends make us laugh, don't they? 09:33 Yeah, our friends make us laugh. 09:35 Well, when Abraham was hanging out with God, 09:39 and God was letting him know 09:40 that he was going to have a son. 09:43 Sometimes it's good to laugh, but sometimes 09:45 it's not the right time to laugh. 09:47 And when Abraham heard that he was going to have a son 09:51 and his wife was going to have a son, 09:53 you know what he did? 09:55 He laughed. He laughed. 09:56 He laughed at God. 09:57 He thought it was, he just said, 09:59 "No way, are you serious? 10:01 I'm almost 100 years old. 10:04 How am I going to have a child 10:05 and my wife is really old too, how is she?" 10:07 And she was laughing too. Yeah. 10:09 And a little bit later, she was laughing. 10:11 But God said, you know what? 10:13 What looks impossible for humans to do 10:18 is possible with Me. 10:20 Do you guys believe that? 10:21 Yeah. Yes. 10:22 Do you believe that there are things 10:24 that humans, 10:25 it's not possible for us to do but with God, it is possible? 10:28 Yeah. Yes. 10:29 Yes. 10:31 A little bit later, Jesus said with man, 10:33 when His disciples asked Him, you know, how can we be saved? 10:36 Jesus said with man, it's impossible 10:40 but with God, all things are possible. 10:44 And so there it was, Abraham laughed, no way, God. 10:47 God, are You serious? I'm gonna have a kid. 10:49 And God said, "You know what? 10:50 You are gonna have a kid and his name will be Isaac." 10:53 His name will be... Isaac. 10:56 Isaac, which means... 10:58 Laughter. Laughter. 10:59 And so, God wanted to teach Abraham 11:02 that although he was laughing at, 11:04 oh, are you serious, no way. 11:06 God said no way, yes way. 11:08 And guess what happened? 11:10 Did his wife get pregnant? 11:12 Yes. Yes. 11:13 And there out came Isaac, 11:16 the fulfillment of the promised son given to him. 11:20 Why did Abraham not believe God? 11:24 Well, sometimes our feelings don't align with what God says 11:29 is going to happen. 11:30 And so, unfortunately Abraham distrusted God 11:34 but remember, 11:35 he's still stayed as a friend of God. 11:37 And God said, I'm still going to use you 11:40 and He brought him Isaac, the promised son. 11:43 Let's go back to the idea of a friend. 11:47 A good friend always fulfills their promises, don't they? 11:52 Right. 11:53 A good friend won't say something 11:55 and do something else. 11:57 Now, who is the best friend in the... 12:00 Now, some of you told me earlier 12:01 that you have a best friend. 12:03 But really our greatest best friend is God 12:07 because sometimes if we're honest, 12:10 our friends can hurt us. 12:13 Does anyone here ever had a friend that hurt you? 12:15 Maybe they weren't trying to do it on purpose. 12:18 But sometimes they just, 12:19 they said something and they did another. 12:22 Or maybe they got angry at you 12:23 and said something that they shouldn't have 12:25 or did something they shouldn't have. 12:26 But does God ever do anything to hurt you? 12:32 Does God do anything to break our trust? 12:35 No. Never. 12:36 Never. 12:38 God's always faithful to His promises. 12:40 But sometimes just like how Abraham looked 12:42 and he thought, man, no way, 12:45 does it look like I'm ever going to have a kid 12:47 with my wife Sarah. 12:49 Sometimes when we look at the world around us, 12:51 we think, man, this world is so scary sometimes. 12:56 You know this world is, it's, it's... 13:00 I can, I'm sad sometimes 13:01 and it looks like maybe things are happening with my family 13:04 or my friends or my school 13:06 or my community in this country, 13:07 I don't know what's happening. 13:09 And sometimes it doesn't seem 13:11 like God's going to do anything about it. 13:13 But when we look back 13:15 and we read the stories of Abraham and others 13:19 in the Holy Scriptures, 13:20 we can see that God is always faithful to His promises. 13:25 So when God says 13:26 that He is going to give us a new home 13:28 in the new earth, we can believe it. 13:33 All right, everyone, 13:35 I can't wait to see you next time. 13:36 Let's go ahead and give each other some high fives. 13:39 Everyone who's your friend. You are here on Bible Gems. 13:41 You have a friend, give him a high five. 13:43 High five, high five. 13:44 Yeah. Yay! |
