00:23 Hello, boys and girls,
00:24 and welcome to Kids Camp Creation Crafts. 00:26 We're so glad you're joining us today. 00:29 Are you ready for some craft fun? 00:31 We sure like crafts. We're your hosts. 00:33 I'm Miss Susie. And I Mr. Ryan. 00:35 We're so glad that you have joined us. 00:37 And we have a bunch of blue students here with us. 00:40 Are you guys ready to make some crafts today? 00:42 Yes! 00:44 All right, that should be great. 00:45 Well, to help us along, 00:46 we actually have a few referees that will help us. 00:49 Come on, ladies. Thanks for joining us today. 00:51 They're gonna help us, maybe help the kids 00:53 make some of their craft today, 00:54 and help us with some microphones, 00:56 and whatever else we need some help. 00:58 So it's always great to have extra hands 01:00 when you're doing crafts. 01:01 All right, well, today we're gonna just follow 01:04 some directions that Miss Susie is gonna give us. 01:07 And so what are we gonna make today? 01:08 Well, today, we are gonna be making slime. 01:12 Whoo! But not only slime. 01:15 This is some fun stuff to play with. 01:18 It is... 01:20 Oh, my magnet stuck to my frame. 01:22 All right, it's so magnetic. 01:24 We are gonna be playing with some magnetic slime. 01:29 Wow! That is really awesome. 01:31 Isn't that cool? 01:33 I don't know if you, boys and girls, can see that. 01:34 Can you see that? 01:36 Yes, it's magnetic slime. 01:38 We're gonna have some fun with that. 01:40 So there's a special ingredient there to make it magnetic? 01:43 There is. It's called iron oxide. 01:45 Yes. 01:46 Well, what is our Bible verse that goes with this today? 01:48 That's right. 01:49 We always want to connect our craft 01:51 to something that in scripture, 01:52 so we can learn something and remember it. 01:54 So when you're playing with slime, you can say, 01:56 "Oh, I wonder 01:57 what we were supposed to learn." 01:58 So the lesson and the verse that we're gonna learn today 02:00 is from Mark 8:34. 02:04 And this is about following Jesus 02:05 and you'll see that when we do this craft. 02:07 Then it says Jesus called the crowd of people 02:09 and His disciples. 02:11 And He said to them, 02:12 "If anyone wants to follow Me, 02:14 he must deny himself, pick up his cross, 02:17 and follow Me." 02:19 It was some of Jesus greatest words. 02:21 He said, "Follow me." 02:23 Well, we're gonna see 02:24 how the slime follows the magnet here today. 02:27 Are you guys ready to make some magnetic slime? 02:30 Yeah! All right. 02:31 All right. Who is ready to craft? 02:33 Me! All right. 02:35 Okay. 02:37 So to begin, we are gonna start with 02:38 some regular school glue, something like this, 02:43 just some white liquid school glue. 02:46 Our next craft... 02:47 Oh, I'm sorry, 02:48 our next ingredient is gonna be water, 02:50 just regular tap water will do. 02:52 Our next ingredient is gonna be iron oxide. 02:56 This is what makes it magnetic, okay? 02:59 We have some in our little cups. 03:01 And the next thing 03:03 we're gonna have is liquid starch. 03:06 When we add the liquid starch, 03:07 this is when all the stuff happens, 03:09 all the chemistry. 03:10 This is some really good chemistry, 03:12 boys and girls. 03:13 All right, so let's get started. 03:15 The first thing we're gonna do 03:16 is we're gonna take our glue. 03:18 So, kids, if you find your cup that starts with G, 03:20 that is our glue. 03:21 We're gonna go ahead and dump it in our bowl, 03:22 and you can use your spoons to scoop it out. 03:27 Get all that you can. 03:29 You don't have to get all of it, 03:30 but get most of it. 03:33 Yeah, try to get all of it, right? 03:35 You can make as much as possible. 03:36 Yes, that's right. 03:39 Okay, now once we have our glue in there, 03:43 our next step will be to add our water. 03:46 This just dilutes the glue a little bit. 03:48 So go ahead and add your water. 03:50 It'll be the cup labeled with W. 03:52 So we're gonna add that. 03:54 Now I would like you to go ahead 03:56 and stir it up. 03:58 Well, this is some good chemistry. 03:59 And mix it. 04:01 You want to kind of gently stir, 04:02 so we're not sloshing it out of our bowl. 04:05 We're gonna mix, mix, mix. Yeah, this is... 04:08 I think that something we learn in chemistry, right? 04:11 Yeah. Yeah, make sure we mix it up. 04:12 I tell my students you need to learn how to mix. 04:14 Mixing is so important. 04:16 Chemistry doesn't always 04:17 just happen magically, you got to get in there. 04:19 Add some elbow grease and mix it around. 04:21 You want this to look like a really nice milky mixture. 04:25 So if it starts to look like milk, 04:26 you're getting close. 04:28 That's right. 04:29 So we're just gonna keep stirring, 04:31 keep stirring. Keep stirring. Keep stirring. 04:32 You guys are getting close. 04:34 And you might have to go a little fast. 04:36 This is looking good. All right. 04:38 Great job. Now who has made slime before? 04:42 I have. Wow, you have? 04:44 I see almost every hand. I see a couple hands. Yes. 04:47 Lots of hands. I think... 04:48 You've made it too? 04:50 All right, but... But now the question is... 04:52 Okay, we've got it. 04:53 We've got a slime rookie in here. 04:54 So that's gonna be great. All right. 04:56 Well, now the question is if you've made slime, 04:58 have you made magnetic slime? 05:00 Who's made that before? 05:02 Oh, I see a hand. Oh, what? All right. 05:05 Okay, now once we have our glue and our water all mixed up, 05:09 now you're gonna take your iron oxide. 05:12 That it is in the cup labeled with an M 05:14 or we may have written metal on it. 05:16 Go ahead and pour that in your bowl. 05:18 Now when you stir this, just be a little careful, 05:20 we don't want the particles to get airborne. 05:21 You don't want to breathe that in. 05:24 That should be fine. It looks like charcoal. 05:25 Now... 05:27 Yeah, it's gonna start looking kind of gray. 05:29 Now we're just gonna mix, mix, mix. 05:32 Lots of mixing with this craft. 05:35 Yeah, get that. 05:36 You can even try to flip it around. 05:40 Good job. 05:41 Make sure you scrape down the sides 05:43 and get it as mixed as much as possible. 05:45 Get in there and mix it around. You guys are doing good. 05:47 Now, Miss Susie, do we always have 05:49 to put the magnetic material in there? 05:52 Could we add something else? 05:54 You don't. You can even add color if... 05:56 Now the iron oxide will make it black, 05:58 just like in our sample over here. 06:01 But you can also add some food coloring 06:04 to give it whatever color you want. 06:07 If you're not using the iron oxide... 06:08 If you use the iron oxide, then it will be black. 06:12 Okay, everybody is getting mixed. 06:14 Miss Susie. Yeah? 06:15 Is it okay if we do the iron oxide later 06:18 or is it important to do at this step? 06:19 It's important to do it in this step. 06:21 And you'll see why when we add our starch. 06:24 Yeah. 06:27 Well, I want to ask some of our young people 06:29 what are some ingredients have you put into slime before? 06:32 Do we have anything? 06:33 Borax in mine. 06:35 It's sort of like this activator 06:36 that makes it slime. 06:38 Wow. Very good. 06:39 She is a good little chemist here. 06:41 That's right. 06:42 In the starch, actually, there is some borax or boric. 06:45 And that's what helps link it all together to make the slime. 06:48 So there's detergents. 06:50 You can use borax. 06:52 Eye contact solution... 06:53 Well, here, let's see. 06:55 What have you used before? 06:56 Eye contact solution. 06:58 Eye contact solution. Oh, yeah. 07:00 I didn't know if that have boric in it. 07:01 Yeah, you can make it with that as well. 07:02 So I'm learning something new. 07:04 There are many different ways you can make slime 07:06 and using contact solution is one of them. 07:08 Now you guys are doing great. 07:10 This is an important step that you want to get it all nice 07:11 and mixed there. 07:12 Yes, I'm gonna make sure we get all mixed up. 07:14 Make sure... 07:15 What have you used before? See here we've got some... 07:16 Sometimes my grandma puts 07:18 a little jello in it to make it squishy. 07:21 A little jello. Okay, I like that. 07:26 Don't eat this though. 07:27 I mean, when I hear jello, 07:28 it's like, "Oh, I want to eat it." 07:30 So don't eat this stuff, all right? 07:31 I've seen some YouTube videos. 07:34 They make slime out of candy. 07:36 Whoo! Slime out of candy. 07:37 That would be fun. 07:39 Yeah, there are some special recipes. 07:41 That's not this one, okay? 07:43 Okay, I think we're ready for our next step. 07:45 I think so. 07:46 Okay, so go ahead and grab your starch, 07:48 your liquid starch. 07:50 And this actually has the boric in it. 07:52 And this is gonna make it all polymerize, 07:55 and it's gonna get all thick and congealed. 07:57 So go ahead and pour that in there 07:58 and you want to start stirring right away. 08:00 You are doing great. 08:02 Let's see how it's going down here. 08:03 And you're gonna stir, stir, stir. 08:05 Oh, this is when it starts to get... 08:06 And it's gonna start getting really jellylike. 08:10 Isn't that fun looking? 08:14 Wow, good job. 08:18 All right, can you see that, boys and girls at home? 08:21 it's gonna get really kind of thick and jelly like. 08:25 Pretty soon we're gonna have you get your fingers in there. 08:27 That's right. 08:29 Get a little messy. 08:32 You guys are doing great. 08:33 Good mixing, good stirring. That's right. 08:35 It's where the magics happening, 08:37 the little molecules are getting knitted together. 08:39 How is it going over there? 08:41 And making these long polymers strands. 08:42 Yep, you got a good little ball of glue there. 08:44 Oh! 08:45 How is it going over here, girls? 08:48 Just keep stirring, keep stirring. 08:51 So what are some other interesting things 08:52 that you have put into slime before? 08:56 My friends have got mix of a microwave gummy bears 09:00 and then they put the gummy bear stuff in it. 09:03 Wow! Gummy bears. 09:05 That's some interesting ingredients. 09:06 That's a very interesting thing to add. 09:08 Yes. Wow. 09:10 There are a lot of fun recipes out there, 09:12 but you mainly just need the glue, 09:15 and the boric. 09:16 You can use the... And borax. 09:18 There's a lot of different names for it. 09:20 It'll do the same thing. Okay, the next step. 09:22 Once you get it 09:24 all congealed together like this, 09:26 it helps to actually just work it 09:27 with your hands. 09:29 You're gonna kind of stretch it. 09:30 So here's where we get to get kind of dirty 09:32 and it gets to feel all achy and gooey. 09:34 So what we're gonna do 09:35 is we're just gonna kind of stretch it 09:37 and work it out, just like this. 09:40 Yeah, the more you work it... 09:41 The more you work it, 09:42 the better it will get and feel. 09:44 So it'll be a little sticky. 09:45 But as you keep working, 09:47 it will get to a really good consistency. 09:48 Get right in there, try to pull it, and stretch it. 09:53 How does this feel? Weird. 09:55 Oh, it does. It's all slimy. 09:59 But that's in the name, right? We're making slime. 10:03 Definitely in a slime part of it here. 10:06 Oh, wow! 10:07 Here is something pretty good there. 10:08 Yeah, just keep working it. 10:11 Oh, you put a little bit more starch in there. 10:14 That's fine. She had a little bit extra. 10:17 Okay. Yeah. 10:18 The starch will help make it a little bit more brittle, 10:20 so if you think it's too slimy, 10:21 you can add just a little bit of starch. 10:23 Yeah, a little bit of a time. Yeah. 10:25 Keep working it, playing it around. 10:27 And when it starts to dry, boys and girls, 10:29 we can use a little bit. 10:30 We can get to the magnets here pretty soon, 10:32 but not yet. 10:33 We got to work all that iron oxide in there. 10:37 Where do you find that iron oxide? 10:39 Well, you can order it on online. 10:41 You can find it. It's called iron oxide. 10:43 And it comes in a little powder of little metal filings. 10:48 Yeah, it looks a lot like charcoal, 10:50 but very different. 10:51 It does. Yes. 10:52 All right, so it can be a little messy. 10:55 That's okay. 10:56 Well, thanks for making me all this slime, boys and girls. 11:00 That's not for you. 11:01 That's not for me? No. 11:02 No, this is for you to go and mess up your homes. 11:06 No. 11:08 We hope you'll be clean when you go and play 11:10 with this at home. 11:11 Yeah, keep working it in there. 11:13 We're gonna... Did your hands get cleaner? 11:15 And they are getting a little cleaner. 11:17 Little bit. 11:18 Then you got to keep working it. 11:19 You know work it with your hands, okay? 11:21 Mines getting cleaner each time I get it. 11:24 I'm gonna get there. Oh! 11:25 Keep working it. Oh, yeah. 11:27 We got to keep working there. Wow! 11:29 My hand is getting clean. Yeah, it is really slimy. 11:33 Oh! 11:36 It's always good to play with this on a hard surface. 11:38 I need some more water. 11:40 'Cause it will stick to carpet and clothing, 11:43 and you don't want to get it in your clothes. 11:44 Oh, can I work with it some more here? 11:46 If the more you work with it, here... 11:48 This one is mine. 11:50 It'll come. It'll help work you... 11:53 The slime off your hand. 11:54 Okay, at this point, 11:55 we should have a pretty good consistency. 11:59 And watch it fall. That really sticky, isn't it? 12:06 All right, and you can clean up your bowl. 12:09 You guys are doing great. 12:10 All right, Now... 12:12 I'd see how it's going up here though. 12:14 Oh, what? 12:15 Oh, you guys are getting me all slimy here. 12:18 Okay. 12:19 Now I think we should get our magnets out, okay? 12:22 Should we see if our magnets will attract our slime? 12:25 Okay, so everybody should have a little magnet. 12:27 This is a neodymium magnet. 12:30 They're very strong, okay? 12:32 So if you want to watch this, I'll see if they... 12:38 We can get it to... 12:39 Oh, you know what's fun is to just let it... 12:41 See, if I put it on our hand. Put it on the... 12:43 And just lay it right on top. 12:47 Oh, it's like it's been eaten by the slime. 12:49 Slime will hold on to it, just like that. 12:50 Here's a little bit more here. 12:54 Is your magnet in there already? 12:56 All right. She had her magnet in there. 13:00 This is also kind of fun to see, 13:02 I don't know if you can get in here 13:03 and see this, 13:04 but this will just eat the magnet right up. 13:08 Oh, it's fun to get in there and get slimy. 13:09 Can you see that? I wonder... 13:12 It completely engulfs it. 13:14 I wonder how this connects with our Bible verse. 13:17 Jesus said to follow him. 13:23 Oh, you think the magnets following the slime? 13:26 Did you get to play with your magnet? 13:28 Oh, I think the slime is following the magnet. 13:29 All right, where is it? 13:31 Oh, is it in there? Very good. 13:32 You should be able to pull that out. 13:35 Boy, we're getting out of time here already. 13:36 Time... So we are getting out of time. 13:38 Really fast... 13:39 Well, we've had a lot of fun here on Creation Crafts, 13:42 where scripture inspires creativity. |
