00:11 Magnify Him
00:18 Hello, everyone and welcome to Magnify Him.
00:21 My name is Duawne Starling.
00:23 And my name is Yvonne Lewis.
00:25 Thank you, for tuning in,
00:26 there's a special blessing in store for you.
00:29 Indeed there is.
00:30 We're going to meet some talented individuals
00:33 in our program today.
00:34 And I know that you'll be inspired,
00:36 encouraged and blessed by their ministry.
00:39 So don't go away.
00:41 Join us as we lift up the name of Jesus.
00:44 He's so worthy to be praised.
00:47 Come, come and magnify the Lord with us.
00:51 Magnify the Lord with me
00:54 Magnify Him
01:00 We're here today with Rachel Dupard.
01:03 Rachel, I'm so glad to have you on Magnify Him, welcome.
01:07 Thank you.
01:08 Rachel, some thing happened to you when you were about
01:11 three of four years old.
01:12 Tell us about it.
01:13 I had a inner ear dysfunction when I was about--
01:15 they found out I had this
01:17 when I was four or three years old.
01:18 Had to be rushed to the hospital after I fell ill,
01:21 my mom found me in the back of the seat bleeding
01:24 through my nose and the doctor soon told me
01:26 that I had inner ear dysfunction.
01:28 I could not talk.
01:29 I used to caw, caw all the time.
01:30 But they thought it was a cute thing.
01:32 They didn't know that it was actually a problem.
01:34 So after that I had to have, I found I had to go
01:36 to the speech therapy for seven years
01:39 and it was pretty heart [breaking]
01:41 but still the Lord got me through it
01:43 and I decided that I want to sing for Him
01:44 for getting me through this whole process in my life.
01:47 Well, so, you weren't able to really talk.
01:52 No, until I was about five or six.
01:57 My! Yeah.
01:59 And when our viewers hear you sing,
02:01 they're gonna know that truly a miracle
02:03 has been wrought By Lord.
02:05 So you decided when you were little that you wanted to sing.
02:09 Does anybody else in your family sing?
02:11 Ooh, no. No Ma'am.
02:13 My mom, she can hold a note,
02:15 my dad, he can hold a note but, no.
02:17 Really so you are the only one that sings.
02:19 Yes, Ma'am.
02:21 Tell us about your music ministry.
02:22 What are you doing now?
02:23 Well, I basically I'm being, I'm singing in churches
02:26 all over the United States but whenever I'm asked to sing,
02:31 I just do it and I'm just.
02:34 I just want to do this as I get older,
02:36 I just, I always want to do this.
02:37 It's so wonderful.
02:39 Tell us some of the places you've been already
02:41 or who you sung with.
02:42 I've been to, oh, this is been out of the United States
02:44 but I went to Bermuda to sing in this Christmas program
02:48 for like, but it was like Christian type thing but-
02:51 Was it television or- It was on television.
02:53 It was actually for 3ABN. Oh, wonderful, wonderful.
02:57 And you did some thing
02:58 with the Essence Awards or some thing.
02:59 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.
03:01 Ah, that's awesome. Yes, Ma'am.
03:04 I did the Youth Ministry thing over there.
03:08 The Youth program and I sang the National Anthem
03:13 and every thing else--
03:14 What was that like, singing a National Anthem as a singer,
03:17 the National Anthem is not an easy song to sing?
03:20 How was that for you?
03:22 Huh, it was hard so I had to bring
03:24 the microphone back but you know,
03:25 it was pretty, it was all right.
03:27 That's great.
03:28 You are how old now? I'm 16 years old.
03:31 You're 16 years old. Yes, Ma'am.
03:33 Where do you see yourself when you are like 21?
03:36 Where do you think, as you look at your path now,
03:40 where do you think the Lord is taking you?
03:42 I pray to God that I'd be a professional singer for Him.
03:46 And people always tell me not go out in the world
03:48 like R&B singers.
03:50 I plan not to do that.
03:52 I just plan to sing for the Lord, yeah.
03:53 That's wonderful.
03:55 How do think you're gonna not do that?
03:58 Stay away as far as possible.
03:59 'Cause it's really tempting I know.
04:01 But I'm just gonna stay as far as possible from it.
04:04 Stay in the church. That is so good.
04:06 Is it difficult to be a young person
04:08 growing up in the church today?
04:11 It kind of is. It is. Why?
04:15 Well, I mean, I don't know, it's just like
04:19 they tell the children in the church,
04:20 there's, they are children still you know
04:22 but they can be a little, little mean, stuff like that
04:27 but still they are children.
04:29 Okay, so do you have difficulty like being talented,
04:33 are some of the kids, are they mean toward you
04:37 or they accept your gift?
04:39 Well, some are really nice but some can be really mean.
04:41 Like in Middle school they used to call me Medusa
04:43 'cause I had dread locks and they were still forming
04:45 and they weren't at their mature state yet.
04:47 So people used to call me that and you know
04:50 Middle school days they just-
04:52 So you kind of feel like you had to go through
04:55 some challenges as a young person.
04:58 Do you think that God has a plan for everyone's life?
05:02 I do.
05:04 Some people may not know it but they may know
05:05 when they get older.
05:07 But I definitely know my plan here,
05:09 is to be a singer for God.
05:11 Definitely. That is so amazing.
05:12 You know, I watched at church and the Lord has kept you
05:17 so focused and that's such a blessing.
05:20 I have seen you singing at church
05:21 and it's such a blessing to see
05:25 and I know that there are some challenges out there
05:27 as a young person.
05:29 Can you think of anymore, anymore things
05:31 that can just kind of pull you into the world
05:33 that you want to be careful of?
05:35 Tons, okay I go Book or Tea
05:36 and there's a lot of art students and sometimes the art,
05:40 you know, they are huh, let's just say they do
05:45 a little of drugs to get there
05:49 to express themselves,
05:50 I don't know but I stay as far as possible.
05:53 Amen.
05:54 You know that is such an amazing blessing
05:57 to know that when you hold on
06:00 to the Lord's hand you cannot fail.
06:03 He's gonna bring you through every thing
06:04 because he's got a plan for you.
06:08 It is gonna be amazing to hear Rachel's Ministry.
06:12 She's a blessing.
06:24 Not a second Or another minute
06:28 Not an hour Or another day
06:32 But at this moment with my arms outstretched
06:37 I need you to make a way
06:40 As you've done so many times before
06:46 Through a window or an open door
06:49 I stretch my hands to thee
06:53 Come rescue me
06:56 I need you right away
07:00 I need you now
07:06 I need you now
07:11 I need you now
07:19 I need you now
07:28 Oh, not another second Nor another minute
07:33 Not an hour of another day
07:36 But no, Lord
07:37 I need you right away
07:47 If I never needed you before
07:51 To show up and restore
07:54 All of the faith that I let slip
07:59 While I was yet searching the world for more
08:04 The true best friend I have indeed
08:09 You're my best friend I have indeed
08:13 I stretch my hands to thee
08:18 Come rescue me
08:20 I need you right away
08:28 The agony of being alone
08:33 The fear of doing things on my own
08:38 The test and trials that
08:39 come to make me strong
08:49 The feelings of guilt, hurt, pain, and defeat
08:54 The way the trials that beat upon me
08:59 But to know Lord that in you
09:02 I've got victory, yeah
09:09 I need you now
09:11 Lord, I need you now
09:17 Oh, I need you right now, right now, right now
09:24 I need you now
09:32 Oh not another second
09:33 Not another minute, Lord
09:37 Not an hour Or another day
09:40 but no, Lord I need you right away
09:47 Oh Lord, Oh Lord
09:51 Can't wait another day
09:54 Oh Lord,
09:58 please make a way
10:04 Oh Lord, Oh Lord,
10:10 Uh, Lord.
10:22 Everyone has a song and this song is about
10:24 what you go through in your challenges.
10:27 "What is Your Song?"
10:34 Yeah, mm mmh,
10:40 oh, yeah
10:47 There is a song
10:50 In each and everyone
10:54 Words unheard
10:58 And songs unsung
11:02 Each day is a new verse
11:06 Another road to try
11:10 Another day to live
11:13 Another day for God
11:17 Trails of the chorus
11:21 The complex refrain
11:25 So sweet to the ears
11:29 Sprinkled with pain
11:33 Trials of the chorus
11:37 Complex refrain
11:41 So sweet to the ears
11:45 Sprinkled with pain
11:49 What is the song you sing?
11:53 Have you had your say?
11:57 And have you been kind
12:01 to God's people today?
12:05 You see, we're all His children
12:09 And we share this world
12:13 Every man and woman
12:17 Every boy and girl
12:21 Trails of the chorus
12:25 The complex refrain
12:29 So sweet to the ears
12:33 Sprinkled with pain
12:37 Trials of the chorus
12:40 Complex refrain
12:45 So sweet to the ears
12:48 Sprinkled with pain
12:53 What is your song?
12:59 What is your song?
13:03 Yeah
13:07 What is your song?
13:14 What is your song?
13:19 Yeah, yeah, yeah
13:25 There is a song
13:29 in each and everyone
13:33 Words unheard
13:37 And songs unsung
13:40 Each day is a new verse
13:44 Another road to try
13:48 Another day to live
13:52 Another day for God
14:03 Magnify the Lord with me
14:06 Magnify Him
14:12 Welcome, everyone.
14:13 I'm sitting here with the group, Counter Point
14:16 and they hailed to us from Oakwood University.
14:18 Welcome to Magnify Him, everyone.
14:20 Thank you for having us.
14:22 Gentlemen, gentlemen, first let me start
14:24 by introducing yourselves.
14:26 So we'll go front to back, front to back, front to back.
14:29 Your name and where you are from.
14:31 My name is Erin Manzole and I'm from Toronto, Canada.
14:35 Wonderful.
14:36 I'm Alan Magnee and I'm from Long Island, New York.
14:39 New York, next.
14:41 My name is Eric Samson
14:42 and I'm from Huntsville, Alabama.
14:44 Okay.
14:45 My name is Victor Danny St. Luke
14:46 and I'm from Hackettstown, New Jersey.
14:49 All right, next.
14:50 My name is Steven Murphy. I'm from Atlanta, Georgia.
14:52 Atlanta.
14:53 My name is Anton Reed. I'm from New Jersey.
14:56 So how many of you knew each other
14:58 before coming to Oakwood?
15:01 Uh, four of us did actually, yeah,
15:03 myself, Anton, St. Luke and Alan.
15:07 And did any of you sing together before Oakwood?
15:09 Well, the three of us right here were in a group
15:11 in our High school Pine Forge
15:13 and Alan was in a separate group.
15:15 Okay.
15:17 Now since you've been at Oakwood,
15:20 there's been a lot of groups that have come through Oakwood,
15:23 do you pattern yourself after anybody
15:25 or are you trying to individualize yourselves
15:29 in a way that some one will know along,
15:31 "This is not Take 6, this is not Committed,
15:33 this is Counter Point.
15:35 So what is the distinguishing factor between
15:38 you and these other groups?
15:41 Well, Duawne, that's kind of a, it's a hard question.
15:45 It's a hard question?
15:46 Well, we sort of pick and choose or certain things
15:50 from groups, especially Take 6 who you know,
15:53 led the way for years coming and they you know,
15:55 Committed winning the past competition,
15:57 this past year.
15:59 But um, we would say that we'd like to do our own thing.
16:01 That's why we you know, arrange our own musics
16:03 and write our write our own songs
16:05 and try to mould that after what we think would sound best
16:08 for our group while still taking
16:10 some of the greater characteristics
16:12 of past groups like Take 6 and Committed.
16:14 I'm glad that you transitioned us to the music
16:17 because one of the things I wanted to ask you is,
16:19 I think it's interesting that the a cappella groups
16:22 that I have heard, none of them are,
16:25 well, let me say it this way,
16:26 all of the a cappella groups that I have heard,
16:28 they're all musicians in some way.
16:30 So I'm sure all of you play an instrument of are familiar
16:32 with an instrument, is that correct?
16:34 Yeah, we all play some music.
16:37 You know, I find that so interesting when it comes to
16:40 like a cappella groups that most of them
16:42 play an instrument but you don't play an instrument
16:44 when you're singing.
16:46 So what instruments do you play?
16:48 Starting here.
16:50 I play the trumpet. Okay.
16:51 Are you good?
16:53 I must be- I'm sorry.
16:55 And what instrument do you play?
16:57 I play piano.
16:58 Piano, I played a little piano. Okay.
17:01 I also dabble in a piano. Okay, very good.
17:04 Well, I also dabble in the piano.
17:06 I also conduct as well from time to time so-
17:08 Excellent, excellent and you?
17:11 Piano and percussion. Yeah, okay.
17:13 I'm right now I'm also in guitar, acoustic and electric.
17:17 Guitar, great, great. Yeah.
17:18 So what are you guys majors? What are you studying now?
17:22 Well, I'm doing a Bachelor's of music
17:23 in composition and recording arts.
17:26 And what do you want to do after graduation?
17:28 It's funny because I've actually been
17:31 steering the direction of going to Law school so-
17:34 Okay, you, Sir.
17:37 I'm studying Physical education um,
17:40 I've been playing piano for like 14, 15 years now
17:42 so I'm trying to see if I can after graduation you know,
17:46 do music on the side but sill have my career
17:48 'cause I do love sports though.
17:50 What's your favorite? I love basket ball.
17:53 Okay, what position?
17:55 Point guard, did a little bit in High school.
17:58 Now everybody's laughing, that's trying to tell me that
18:01 there's something about your point guard.
18:03 Are you a good point guard? Is that-
18:06 Don't touch the subject.
18:11 And you, Sir, what's your major?
18:14 I'm actually biology major
18:16 and I would like to pursue career
18:18 in Dentistry when I'm done.
18:20 Excellent. Have you chosen a school?
18:22 Um, I'm still thinking. I'm still thinking.
18:24 Howard University in the list.
18:27 Something like that. Very good.
18:30 Well, I'm a music major
18:33 I think why music is so hard to chose which one to do.
18:36 Actually I have three options.
18:38 My main, the one that I want to do, I do want to conduct,
18:42 maybe a choir or orchestra some day.
18:44 Second option, do the music industry, you know,
18:48 sort of the business side of things you know,
18:50 um, three, I'm like Erin Manzole,
18:55 I want to go to Law school,
18:56 four, you know just get rich somehow.
18:59 Get rich, get rich and you, Sir.
19:03 I'm a music major as well, uh, majoring a music composition,
19:06 a recording artist, um, I'm looking into
19:10 being a producer/songwriter.
19:13 I like the behind the scenes type of thing.
19:15 And I'm also looking into sound engineering.
19:18 I love that. Very good.
19:20 Now what are your, when you leave Oakwood,
19:23 because Oakwood doesn't have anything like that,
19:25 have you thought about where you would go?
19:27 Um, me and St. Luke were actually both
19:31 considering a McGill in Canada.
19:33 Oh, that's great.
19:34 In Toronto and I'm also looking into Tennessee,
19:39 was in Tennessee though?
19:41 Middle Tennessee. Middle Tennessee.
19:42 Mm, I know that's cool, that's why I graduated from there.
19:46 That's why I asked you that.
19:47 I was leading you into it actually.
19:51 Yes, and you in the back.
19:53 Well, my major is an engineer in applied math
19:56 and I want to go into aerospace engineering
19:58 but more specifically aeronautical engineering.
20:00 I want to specialize in a engineering jets, private jets
20:03 and ultimately I want to have my line of private jets
20:06 and be a traveling musician.
20:07 Wow. Yeah.
20:09 This is like, this is so, this is major asterations here
20:13 you know, and they're so different.
20:15 I love that, I love that.
20:16 So I understand that all of you
20:18 didn't know each other before Oakwood.
20:19 So how did you all come together
20:21 and decide to be a group.
20:24 I mean, whose [] was that?
20:26 Well, I mean, the four us that went to Pine Forge
20:29 and we got to Oakwood, Steven, St. Luke and Anton,
20:33 they you know, they want to reform the group
20:35 so they came and they called the three of us and they said,
20:38 "Hey let's make a group."
20:39 And we said, "Okay." That was the end of that.
20:42 And it's been how long now?
20:44 About a year, if you add everything together, a year.
20:47 Well, depends on how're you counting it.
20:50 I like you in the back, you know.
20:54 There seems to be comradery between you.
20:58 I love that about male groups.
21:00 It seems to be like a brotherhood
21:03 and I'm assuming that each of you have each other's back.
21:08 Oh, yeah, definitely.
21:09 Now let's talk about the spiritual aspect of it.
21:12 It being a brotherhood,
21:13 are you also accountable to each other.
21:17 Do you know what I mean by that?
21:18 Yeah.
21:19 I just believe that you should have somebody,
21:22 especially when you're traveling
21:24 and when you are in you know, the public eye,
21:26 I believe you should have some body
21:28 that you are accountable to,
21:29 somebody that you're praying with,
21:31 somebody that um, ask you all the tough questions,
21:34 you know, is that what you guys do in the group.
21:38 Yeah. I will have to say yeah.
21:41 Well, I want to say between I don't know, between me,
21:45 Steven and Anton and Alan, you know,
21:48 we see each other a lot
21:50 and so we're always with each other
21:52 and we do ask those tough questions,
21:54 especially when it comes to our boy Alan,
21:56 'cause you know, he's like I could say like my brother
21:58 and he literally these are my brothers.
21:59 Do you know what I'm saying?
22:00 Steve is our brother joined at the [] and so on
22:03 and Eric and Erin came along you know,
22:07 we said, you know, let's bring them
22:08 to the brotherhood and so it's the same thing.
22:10 We actually do consider ourselves
22:11 as a family so to speak.
22:13 I love that.
22:14 And let me say one thing about this group of guys,
22:17 we personally.
22:18 I've never had a singing experience ever before
22:21 I came to Oakwood and once I joined this group,
22:24 you know, they made a lot more confident about myself,
22:27 a lot more just it felt right and so once they accepted me,
22:33 you know, things were great.
22:34 And with that being said, things are great
22:37 and I'm expecting great things from this group.
22:40 I want you to prepare your hearts
22:42 and prepare your minds
22:44 for the ministry of Counter Point.
22:46 I know that you'll be blessed.
22:51 When the troubles
22:55 that get you down
22:59 Just remember that my Jesus
23:04 cares, oh, yes
23:07 But when the troubles
23:11 that get you down
23:14 Just remember Jesus cares.
23:22 I have decided
23:26 to follow Jesus
23:30 And cast my cares upon Him
23:37 I have decided
23:42 To give my all to Him
23:46 And let Him lead all the way
23:54 When the troubles
23:58 that get you down
24:01 Just remember that my Jesus
24:06 cares, oh, yes.
24:09 But don't let the troubles
24:13 get you down
24:17 Just remember...
24:20 ...that Jesus cares
24:51 Just remember...
24:55 ...Jesus cares
25:12 Our next selection would be the hymn, Lord of Our Life.
25:16 We pray that you make Jesus Christ,
25:18 the Lord of your life today.
25:23 Lord of our life
25:28 and God of salvation
25:35 Star of our night
25:41 and Hope of every nation
25:48 Hear and receive
25:53 Thy Church's supplication
25:59 Lord God Almighty
26:28 Grant us Thy help till faults are
26:34 backward they are driven
26:40 Grant them Thy truth,
26:45 that they may be forgiven
26:52 Grant peace on earth
26:56 And after we have striven
27:03 Lord God...
27:07 ...Almighty King
27:19 Lord God Almighty
