00:01 Magnify the Lord with me
00:04 Magnify the Lord 00:08 Jesus alone He is worthy 00:11 Magnify Him 00:15 Hello, and welcome to Magnify Him. 00:18 My name is Yvonne Lewis. 00:20 Someone once said that music like a magic key 00:23 that opens the most tightly closed heart. 00:26 We pray tonight that your heart 00:28 will be opened by the Holy Spirit, 00:30 moving through the music, to bless you. 00:34 Stay tuned and be blessed. 00:37 Magnify the Lord with me 00:40 Magnify Him 00:45 Professor Shelton Kilby is here with us on Magnify Him. 00:49 Welcome, professor. Thank you. 00:51 Thank you for inviting me. 00:52 And you are my great friend so I may call you Shelton. 00:54 Please call me Shelton. Let me adjust. 00:57 You know, your playing just reflects so much power 01:03 and passion and we know that it's a gift from God. 01:07 When did you know that you could play? 01:10 When I was five years old, I was tinkering around, 01:12 playing by ear. 01:13 My parents tell me I was about seven years old 01:15 when I really got serious about it 01:17 and realized that I could play the piano. 01:19 How many hours a day did you practice? 01:22 They were quite an hour before going to school 01:25 and an hour after coming home... 01:27 And all there. ...and then you get going. 01:29 So your parents said an hour before school. 01:31 Before school. And an hour after? 01:33 Yes. 01:34 And then you could go out and play. 01:35 No, that's after the homework. 01:37 Oh. You see, parents? 01:40 They were pretty strict. 01:42 That's incredible. And I glad that they were. 01:43 I didn't like it when they did it. 01:45 Yes, yes. But it surely paid off. 01:47 It has, it has. 01:48 You have had quite a journey. 01:51 You have been a pastor, a professor, 01:55 of course an artist. 01:57 How do you combine everything? 02:00 How do you like navigate through all of these gifts 02:05 'cause God has given you so many gifts. 02:07 You know, institutionally it can be kind of hard 02:12 because you know, if you are a pastor 02:14 then surely you are not playing the piano. 02:17 You are playing the piano, surely you are not a pastor. 02:19 And so I had to decide if I was pastoring 02:23 then a part of my daily routine before study 02:26 was to get up in the morning and practice. 02:28 Otherwise I would have lost it, 02:31 and I just always felt that God, 02:33 if He gave me that He, you know, 02:35 and trusted me to be the manager of those gifts, 02:39 then it was up to me to do that. 02:40 That's such a good point you know, 02:42 because God has entrusted you with these gifts 02:47 and that's something that we all need to remember 02:50 that when God gives us a gift 02:52 we have to be good stewards of that gift. 02:54 What's your ministry now? 02:56 I have a new ministry called Shelton Kilby Beyond Borders. 03:00 Long story short I was invited for lecture 03:02 at the H.M.S. Richards Divinity School 03:05 in La Sierra, California. 03:07 And this ministry based on the prayer of J Bass. 03:13 I heard myself play a few years ago, 03:16 and was totally disgusted 03:17 because it's playing the same way 03:19 I played 15 years before that. 03:20 I ask the Lord for new ministry and He imprest me to tell 03:25 stories from the piano. 03:28 So going beyond borders is going beyond the status quo. 03:33 It's not important about the style 03:35 and how a person feels, 03:36 it's important to tell the story of Jesus 03:39 and so the music and the style 03:41 become secondary to telling the story of Jesus Christ. 03:45 And you are telling the story through music. 03:47 Through music, yes. Praise God. 03:49 What an amazing thing. And it's exciting. 03:52 And so what's the first song 03:54 that you are going to play for us. 03:56 I'm going to play The Church Has One Foundation. 03:59 The Church Has One Foundation, 04:00 that's one of my favorite hymns. 04:02 Listen and be blessed by Professor Shelton Kilby. 10:35 A Negro spiritual entitled Wade In The Water. 14:02 Magnify the Lord with me 14:05 Magnify Him 14:11 It's a great honor to welcome Belinda Mulzac to Magnify Him. 14:15 Welcome, Belinda. 14:16 Thank you, glad to be here. 14:19 It is great to have you here 14:20 and it's gonna be even greater to hear you. 14:22 You have such a wonderful instrument. 14:25 How long have you been singing? 14:27 Oh, practically all my life. 14:29 Since eight years old. Really? 14:31 Do you come from a musical family? 14:33 I do. 14:34 I am from Macon, Georgia, 14:35 and my father was a jazz pianist 14:39 and my mother was a singer as well 14:41 before they joined the church, of course. 14:44 And I've been listening to music 14:46 all my life at home and... 14:48 So music is a part of you. It is, it is. 14:50 Do you have a family, children and all of that? 14:53 Yes, I have two daughters. 14:54 One Carla and one Brianda, who's older. 14:58 You have an interesting journey. 15:00 Tell us a little bit about your testimony. 15:05 I've had a long journey but I'll begin telling you 15:08 about my ministry within that journey. 15:12 My ministry, I feel is singing as well as other things 15:17 that I love to do. 15:18 Such as? 15:19 Oh, I love decorating, I love to exercise. 15:23 Okay, wait. Let's stop, let's stop. 15:25 Decorating like house decorating? 15:26 Oh, yes. 15:28 Is that like a passion of yours? 15:30 It is, it is. 15:31 So you have a flair for the colorful 15:35 and putting it all together in the home? 15:37 Exactly. Okay. 15:39 I love doing that. 15:40 So that's one of the things I like to do. 15:42 And I am a health educator so I love exercising. 15:47 I love trying to eat right, don't always get it right but 15:51 I love that as well. 15:53 You love to exercise? 15:54 I do. Oh, okay. 15:55 So I cannot say that I loved excer... 15:58 I do exercise, but I can't say I love it. 16:01 What do you love about it? 16:04 It just gives a natural high, 16:06 the natural release of endorphins 16:08 after a run or jog and it's just something 16:12 you can't compare to that. 16:14 That's true. 16:15 Now I have to say, this morning 16:17 when I was getting ready to come here, 16:19 I had to do my little work 16:21 and I do this 15 minute thing on a rebounder 16:23 and actually I did not feel like doing it today 16:26 but after I got on it in I just felt better. 16:29 Exactly. Isn't that right? 16:31 Exactly. 16:32 So you got decorating, you got exercise. 16:35 And do you incorporate these things into your ministry? 16:39 Not really. Not for... 16:41 So these are just your passions. 16:42 These are just things that I like to do on the side. 16:44 What about your family life? 16:46 Tell us a little bit about that. 16:48 Well, my older daughter 16:49 graduated form Oakwood last year, 16:52 she's a nurse. 16:53 And my younger daughter 16:55 just graduated from high school, Andrews Academy, 16:58 so she is attending Andrews this year as a freshman. 17:01 Nice. 17:02 So I'm approaching empty nests. 17:05 Oh, that's got to be a little bit weird, right? 17:08 Yes. That's kind of be boring. 17:10 He's kind of be counted, thats felt. 17:12 And you lost your husband a few years ago. 17:15 Yes. 17:16 Tell us a little bit about that part of your journey if would. 17:17 Yes. 17:19 I lost my husband five years ago 17:21 on the 23rd of July and it's so strange 17:26 because we are talking about ministry. 17:29 My whole married life was a ministry with his. 17:33 How so? Well, we traveled together. 17:36 Was he a minister as well? Was he a minister or pastor? 17:39 Yes, he was a pastor and he was also a professor. 17:43 Oh, a professor? What did he teach? 17:45 He was professor of Old Testament Theology. 17:49 Wow. 17:50 So we had just done a missionary stance 17:54 in the Philippines 17:56 where he was a Chair of the department 17:59 and we would sing and I would sing 18:01 and he would preach and we would go various places 18:04 around the world so that's past now. 18:09 So I would say that my ministry now is, 18:13 you know, on my own and... 18:15 Was it difficult? 18:16 I know it was difficult losing. 18:18 Was it difficult making the transition from a couple 18:22 in ministry to you as an individual in ministry. 18:25 Oh, absolutely. It's very difficult. 18:28 And of course, I went through my period of depression 18:31 and, you know, having to take time out 18:34 and I'm just really now getting back to the point 18:36 where I'm singing on a regular basis. 18:40 So it's been difficult. Yes. 18:43 I would imagine so, but one of the songs 18:46 that you are gonna sing for us is 18:48 'Tis Is So Sweet To Trust In Jesus 18:51 and I kind of think you can relate to that. 18:53 I can totally relate. 18:55 Tell us how the Lord Jesus has helped you through? 18:58 I tell you, Yvonne, the power of the Holy Spirit 19:00 leads and guides me in ways 19:03 that I don't even realize, okay. 19:06 In those dark moments, when you don't know 19:08 what's going on and every Christian 19:10 goes through that experience and it's very difficult. 19:13 But Jesus says that He will never leave us or forsake us, 19:17 that's why 'tis so sweet, 'tis so precious to me. 19:20 He is there, He is with me, even when I don't realize it. 19:25 And that is the key to know that no matter 19:29 what you are going through, Jesus is there for you. 19:33 So listen as Belinda sings 19:35 and blesses us with her ministry. 19:38 God is so there for us. 19:43 Hallelujah, home at last 19:47 The redeemed are home at last! 19:50 All heaven is filled with happiness 19:55 For the age of sin is past 20:00 See the gates as they open wide 20:04 See the saints as they walk inside 20:07 Singing, hallelujah home at last 20:12 The redeemed are home at last! 20:15 Oh, see the lame see the lame 20:18 come a' runnin' a runnin' 20:20 Hear the dumb sing a song of praise 20:24 While the blind are outside and they can see 20:29 And the old folks stand in place 20:33 Around the great white throne Near the King of Kings 20:38 They clap their hands 'Til the heavens ring 20:42 Singing hallelujah, home at last 20:46 The redeemed are home at last! 20:51 Hallelujah, all day long 20:54 I can hear the angels sing 20:58 Then suddenly I hear Moses' song 21:02 And the angels fold their wings 21:07 The Lamb of God as He beckons me 21:12 I hear Him say "Come and dine with Me!" 21:15 Singing hallelujah, home at last 21:20 The redeemed are home at last! 21:23 Oh, see the lame see the lame 21:26 come a' runnin' a runnin' 21:28 Hear the dumb sing a song of praise 21:32 While the blind are outside and they can see 21:37 And the old folks stand in place 21:40 Around the great white throne Near the King of Kings 21:46 They clap their hands 'Til the heavens ring 21:49 Singing hallelujah, I'm home at last 21:54 The redeemed are home at last! 21:58 See the lame come a' runnin' a runnin' 22:02 Hear the dumb sing a song of praise 22:06 While the blind are outside and they can see 22:10 And the old folks stand in place 22:14 Around the great white throne Near the King of Kings 22:19 They clap their hands 'Til the heavens ring 22:23 Singing hallelujah, I'm home at last 22:27 The redeemed are home at last! 22:32 The redeemed are home at last! 22:36 The redeemed are home at last! 22:40 The redeemed are home at last! 22:54 I've learned through life's journey, 22:57 it is always so sweet to trust in Jesus. 23:12 Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus 23:19 Just to take Him at His Word 23:25 Just to rest upon His promise 23:32 Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord!" 23:39 Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! 23:45 How I've proved Him o'er and o'er 23:51 Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! 23:57 Oh, for grace to trust Him more! 24:14 Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus 24:21 Just to trust His cleansing blood 24:27 Just in simple faith to plunge me 24:33 'Neath the healing cleansing flood! 24:40 Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! 24:46 How I've proved Him o'er and o'er 24:53 Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! 24:59 Oh, for grace to trust Him more! 25:11 I'm so glad I learned to trust You 25:17 Oh, precious Jesus Savior, Friend 25:24 And I know that You are with me 25:30 Will be with me to the end 25:36 Jesus, Jesus, how I love You! 25:43 How I've proved You o'er and o'er 25:50 Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! 25:56 Oh, for grace to trust You more! 26:03 Jesus, Jesus, how I love You! 26:09 How I've proved You o'er and o'er and o'er 26:16 Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! 26:23 Oh, for Your grace oh for Your mercy 26:29 Oh, for grace 26:33 to trust You more! 26:41 And more and more 26:45 And more 26:52 Magnify Him. 26:57 I pray that you were as blessed as by the music as I was. 27:03 I just feel as though I get transported 27:05 sometimes into heavenly places with the beautiful music 27:10 that we hear and we can't wait to see 27:12 what heaven is going to be like. 27:14 So until next time, continue to Magnify Him. |
