Hi. 00:51 Welcome. Thank you for having me. 00:53 You know, I was at your church, 00:55 when was that about, four months ago? 00:58 And I heard this lovely voice and I said, 01:02 "Oh, we have to have you on Magnify Him." 01:04 Oh, praise God. 01:05 So I'm so glad that you decided to come... 01:08 Thank you. And you brought your son? 01:10 I did, I did. Praise the Lord. 01:12 That's so great, that's so great. 01:13 When did you know you could sing? 01:16 Well, probably 01:19 early years, early five, six, seven. 01:23 But I didn't really really know 01:24 until I got a relationship with Christ, 01:28 then I really, really knew. 01:29 Now how is that? 01:31 Because I think before I was singing, 01:33 just to be singing or to please people 01:35 or to please my mom 01:37 or, you know, because my mother sings 01:40 so I felt like I should be able to sing 01:41 and so I was trying to do that but I couldn't hold my notes 01:45 if someone else was singing in my ear. 01:46 Oh, I've heard that a lot. So, I couldn't sing. 01:50 But when I got a relationship with Christ, 01:52 I think I began to come into myself. 01:56 Praise God. 01:57 You developed, I guess a desire 02:01 to sing more for Him than to just sing. 02:05 Absolutely and I defined what my singing gift was for. 02:09 I made that decision that my gift was not for me to sing 02:12 any type of music for any type of reason. 02:15 That my particular gift was given to me 02:17 to sing for Christ only. 02:18 Praise the Lord. 02:20 And that made all the difference, didn't it? 02:21 Absolutely. That made all the difference. 02:23 What about your mom? Your mom was a great singer? 02:26 Yes. My mother is awesome. Really? 02:28 My mother was trained classically 02:30 and she was the first 02:32 African American contractual singer 02:33 at The Muny at age of 18. 02:35 Wow. At 18? At 18. 02:39 That's tremendous. Does she... I tell everybody. 02:40 She's going to be so mad that I told you. 02:44 Well, we won't tell, we won't tell. 02:47 What are you're gonna sing for us today? 02:49 I'm going to sing Lord, Your're Holy and For Always 02:52 by CeCe Winas. 02:53 That's the song that I heard you at your church. 02:55 Yes, you did. 02:57 Did these songs have any particular significance to you? 02:59 They do. 03:01 For Always, she talks about continuing and keeping it solid 03:05 her relationship with Christ 03:06 and that He for always be in Her heart., 03:09 and that's' exactly what I want from Christ. 03:11 I want to always be in a mindset 03:14 and in a manner of Him being in my heart 03:18 so that He can be seen in my everything. 03:21 And Lord, You're Holy as well, 03:23 you know, because that just says it all. 03:24 Those words Lord, You're Holy. 03:26 He is just so holy. 03:27 He's so... He's awesome. 03:29 He is. He is. 03:30 And to know that we have the privilege 03:32 of approaching a holy God. 03:34 Absolutely. It is mind-blowing. 03:36 It's mind-blowing. 03:37 The Creator of the universe... Yes. 03:39 Wants to hear from us? Yes. 03:41 Bible says, "What is man that Thou art mindful of him, 03:44 and the son of man that Thou visitest him?" 03:46 Yes. Exactly. 03:47 Who are we that God should want a relationship with us? 03:50 Yes. In spite of ourselves. 03:52 In spite of us. 03:53 He doesn't see us, thank God He sees His son, 03:58 the righteousness of Christ. 04:00 And so what you are singing is going to just bless us 04:04 because it's gonna usher us into the heavenly courts. 04:09 Awesome. Thank you for having me. 14:18 It's great to have you. 14:20 So Alex, I got to hear you sing 14:23 and I'm just like, amazed that God is using you. 14:27 I love to see young men, 14:29 young people, period, singing for Jesus. 14:32 When did you start singing? 14:34 When I was about six or seven. 14:36 Okay, and what were you doing? 14:39 I started singing in my 14:41 children music choir at my church. 14:43 All right. 14:44 And so you started singing 14:47 and your mother sings obviously 14:50 'cause she's on the program as well. 14:51 Yes. And so you started singing. 14:53 At what point did you decide that you wanted to dedicate 14:57 your gift to Jesus? 15:00 When I became old enough to realize that 15:04 those worldly songs and the ideas of the songs 15:09 imposed are not what I need to be worried about 15:12 'cause they are always talking about money, cars, girls... 15:16 That stuff is nice 15:18 but that's not what's gonna keep me going. 15:22 God is what's gonna keep me going. 15:24 Come on. Come on, I like that, I like that. 15:28 So you already know that 15:31 that music is not about anything. 15:33 Right. When did you realize that? 15:38 When I... as I got more into my church, 15:40 more into my deity, it revealed itself 15:43 that's where I need to be 15:45 and where I belong is singing for God 15:49 and this gift that I've been given 15:50 is supposed to be used for God. 15:53 That's tremendous, Alex. 15:54 I don't think there's much that warms my heart 15:58 more than knowing that young people 16:01 have dedicating their gifts to God. 16:04 To me, that's just... it's such an amazing thing 16:06 'cause the world wants to pull you in. 16:09 It wants to pull you in and yet you are saying, 16:12 "I'm not going that way." 16:13 Where do you want to go with your ministry? 16:17 I want to tell the world about God. 16:22 I don't want my ministry and my light 16:24 to end... start and end in St. Louis, 16:27 which is where I live. 16:29 I want the world to know 16:31 that the world is not where you need to be, 16:35 with God is where you need to be. 16:36 That's great. 16:38 What do your friends think about what you are doing? 16:40 They were very excited when they realized 16:43 that I would be coming here to sing. 16:46 They all support me, really. 16:49 Without them most of the time I wouldn't have felt 16:53 that I've done well, because I'm my worst critic. 16:55 All right, you... 16:57 I mean, I've seen myself saying I pick up on every piece and 17:00 I say, this is wrong, this is wrong, 17:02 but one of my friends watch it, they say, 17:04 "Alex, calm down. Everything is good." 17:08 So you have friends, you have supportive friends. 17:10 You have Christian friends? Yes. 17:12 So they are... They are like my family. 17:15 So they are in the trenches with you. 17:16 Yes. Pray for you. 17:18 They pray for you and support you 17:20 with what you are doing. 17:21 Yes.
