I see you. 00:39 Oh, we are so excited to have them here. 00:41 So call your neighbors, call your friends 00:43 and let them know that right here 00:46 we're about to Magnify Him. 00:49 Magnify the Lord with me 00:52 Magnify Him 00:56 Guess what Magnify Him family at home. 00:59 I have some lovely ladies sitting here with me 01:01 from Oakwood University, Serenity. 01:04 Welcome to Magnify Him. 01:06 How are you ladies doing today? 01:07 Doing well. Thank you. 01:09 So tell me how did you guys get together? 01:14 Well, our freshmen year of Oakwood University, 01:17 there was a reality show called "Making the Group." 01:19 It was basically a competition and we ended up 01:22 winning the competition, so as a result we made a group. 01:26 Wow. 01:27 So you got to record or do a video for wining? 01:32 Yes, we got our music video. 01:33 We got to record our song 01:35 and we got to be in the group called Serenity. 01:39 That's awesome. 01:40 So how did you guys come up with the name Serenity? 01:42 Oh, we were just on Facebook 01:44 throwing names out there and I was like, 01:46 what do you guys think about Serenity? 01:47 And she hated it, but we were like 01:49 well it's the best name we can come up with so. 01:51 Okay. 01:52 So it was a television show at Oakwood University, 01:56 so obviously you guys are in college. 01:59 How did you handle being in college 02:02 and doing a television show at the same time? 02:05 It was very difficult as anything in college is, 02:08 when you're like handling two things, 02:10 juggling two things at the same time. 02:11 But we found the time just as we do now. 02:14 We've had our arguments like sisters and all that, 02:16 but it's good, yeah. 02:18 Tell me more about yourself individually. 02:21 I guess I'll start. 02:22 My name is Priscilla Tolera and I'm of course the senior 02:25 at Oakwood University. 02:26 My major is Business Healthcare Administration. 02:28 And being a part of the group is definitely blessing for me. 02:31 I do love to sing, it's one of my hobbies so 02:33 it's a little bit about myself. 02:34 That's great. 02:36 My name is LaTiyfa Fields and I have a double major 02:38 in International Studies and Political Science 02:40 and I'm a graduating senior. 02:41 Oh, wow. Yes. 02:42 Praise the Lord for that. 02:44 And my name is Whitney Andrews. I'm from Maryland. 02:46 I'm also senior at Oakwood, but I'm 5 year, 02:48 so next year I'll be-- 02:49 For me International Studies and Spanish are my two majors. 02:53 Okay. Oh, great. 03:03 So now that you've won the competition, 03:05 what's next for the group? 03:08 I might probably say the next thing 03:09 we're looking at is, 03:11 since we're graduating senior in the group, probably 03:13 traveling would be something that we love to do 03:16 and just continuing to sing together 03:17 in anyway that we can. 03:19 Well, I heard you guys warm up 03:22 and let me tell me, you guys have a beautiful harmony in. 03:25 You at home, you're gonna be blessed. 03:27 What songs are you gonna be doing today? 03:29 Today we'll be doing, "Give me a clean heart 03:30 and the original free." 03:32 An original? 03:33 So that means you guys write your own music. 03:35 We're trying. Yes. 14:44 My name is Shernal Henry and I'm from New York City. 14:48 My name is Shanell Roberts, I'm also from New York. 14:50 I'm Melissa Fatah and I'm from Boston. 14:53 Wonderful. 14:54 And, and like we were saying before the music backstage. 14:57 We were having a blast, joining in together 14:59 in some songs and making them up as we go along. 15:02 What were some of the influences 15:04 you all had growing up as far as singing. 15:06 How did some of you all get started? 15:08 Well, I began singing in my home church 15:10 Mount Sinai in New York City. 15:11 And I'd just sing solos. 15:13 I would do, do ads with the Altino Brothers 15:16 and things of that sort. 15:17 Then I attended a boarding school 15:18 called Pine Forge Academy and Pine Forge, Pennsylvania 15:21 and that is where my love of choral singing 15:23 and becoming a soprano really developed, 15:25 so, yeah. 15:27 I actually didn't know that I could sing 15:29 for quite sometime. 15:30 I went to high school, 15:32 I was performating at high school 15:33 actually for trombone and there was a choir there, 15:35 but I never joined and then in my senior year 15:37 I sang with a group of people and then they were like, 15:40 you can sing, why don't you audition for vocal 15:42 and I was like, I didn't know. 15:44 And like, I used to sing in my church a little bit, 15:46 but nothing like serious in the choir. 15:48 And then when I got to Andrews I joined Deliverance Mass Choir 15:50 and then I started singing. 15:52 And then I met these three ladies 15:53 and then that's when I really started singing. 15:56 What about you, Melisa? 15:58 Well, when I was growing up, 16:00 my mom always made us sing in church. 16:04 It was like a family group. 16:05 She wanted us to have a family group, 16:06 so that's when I really started singing, 16:08 not really but I was just in the group. 16:10 But actually when I went to Pine Forge with Shernal, 16:12 we were both in the Pine Forge Academy choir 16:14 and that's when I really started singing more 16:17 and then when I met these ladies, 16:20 we formed a group. 16:21 You became hit. 16:22 I love that. That works. 16:24 Now you all from Andrews University? 16:26 Yes, we are. 16:27 Tell us a little bit about, you know, 16:28 what your majors are 16:29 and what you all are planning on doing with that? 16:31 You like to start? I can start. 16:33 My major is family studies and from that I want to do 16:37 marriage and family therapy. 16:40 Okay. I'll go next. 16:41 My major is animal science and it was pre-vet, 16:44 but I switched to pre-med because I decided that 16:46 I wanted to work more with people. 16:48 So right now I'm just gonna graduate 16:50 and then I'm gonna apply to PA School 16:52 and hopefully I can do that 16:54 and medical school in the future. 16:56 My major is music education. 16:58 And when I'm done, I want to teach. 17:00 I'll be conducting choirs and bands and orchestras 17:03 and 40 lessons, 30 lessons, all that stuff. 17:06 So we're excited about. 17:07 Now, okay, every group has a story 17:10 about how they got together. 17:12 We know that the two of you already met at Pine Forge 17:15 and we know that you kind of got involved 17:18 almost accidentally, but I'd love to hear the story. 17:22 I mean, we talk about Take 6 in the bathroom is, 17:24 did that how it work, or maybe next door, 17:26 that's exactly... 17:27 Take three in the bathroom. 17:28 Take three in the bathroom. Yes, how it work. 17:30 How did you all start the group? 17:32 We were actually roommates. 17:33 Yes. Oh, sorry. 17:36 We were-- 17:38 We were actually roommates 17:40 and then they already knew each other. 17:41 So one day we were just in our room singing. 17:43 Singing, what we were singing? 17:45 I don't know. Something-- 17:46 I don't know what we were singing 17:47 and we just started singing 17:48 and we were just oh, my God, we should sing, 17:50 we should form a group. 17:51 And then I remember, yeah, we were talking about 17:52 how they weren't really many small groups on campus, 17:56 maybe like a couple. 17:57 And we said, we should probably start singing. 17:59 So I believe we started in our dorm at worship service. 18:03 And then we transferred to the church 18:05 and to the other big church and many different places. 18:08 So it kind of blossomed from there. 18:10 That's neat And, well, go ahead. 18:12 Sorry I was gonna say, and there also weren't 18:13 many a cappella groups as well, so we decided, 18:16 you know, why not. 18:17 Now what's neat about your name is that a lot of people 18:20 will see the name His and they think that, 18:22 it's you know, giving honor to God and saying you're His. 18:25 What's neat is that you all kind of have 18:26 a double meaning with that. 18:28 What is the meaning, you have any? 18:29 I'll take it word. Yes. 18:30 Honor. In. 18:32 Song. 18:33 Honor in Song and that, I know, 18:34 if it's anything like the dressing room 18:36 that's exactly you guys 18:38 are gonna do us for us later on. 18:39 So we're already excited about that. 18:41 Now you all are seniors and there's gonna be 18:44 a great possibility that soon you all 18:46 are not gonna be in the same place. 18:49 Tears. Tears. 18:51 But what are your plans. 18:53 We don't want this music to go away. 18:55 Well, both of us live in New York 18:57 and Boston is only a three hour drive away, so... 18:59 I can take the train. You can take the train. 19:02 Yes. Yeah, so... 19:03 That's good. 19:04 We want to keep you all together and what exactly 19:07 when you all are doing arrangements 19:08 because you're a capella. 19:09 Who does the bulk of the arranging 19:11 or is it a group effort? 19:13 It's maybe. It's maybe a group effort. 19:16 Shannel, as her specialty is, 19:19 where we put our very intricate runs. 19:22 And Melissa holds down the forte 19:25 and we all kind of contribute 19:26 to harmonies and things of that sort. 19:28 So it's really is a group effort. 19:30 Well, I'm sure it's a rich sound. 19:31 And tell us a little bit about what you're all 19:32 are gonna be doing for us in a few moments. 19:35 Well, the first song that we're singing is "He's Sweet." 19:38 And it's actually the first song 19:39 that we've all sing together. 19:40 So it's kind of like a reminiscing-- 19:43 Oh, that's nice little beginning there 19:44 and not necessary the one that you 19:46 got started within the bathroom I'm assuming now. 19:49 Maybe. Right. 19:50 What about the second song? 19:52 The second song is a medley between 19:54 God Restores and Moving Forward. 19:57 Wonderful and is this 19:58 the most recent song you all have sung together? 20:00 I believe this is the last song that we put together, yes. 20:02 The first and the last. 20:04 That kind of work for this kind of show. 20:06 You're gonna Magnify Him. How awesome is that. 20:09 Now with your songs for our people 20:11 watching at home, what exactly do you want them 20:14 to take away from your ministry today? 20:16 Well, first the name of our group is Honor in Song. 20:19 So we do believe that we should honor God 20:21 with a different talents that He's blesses with, 20:23 but not just with song, but with our lives as well. 20:27 Yeah and also we're singing 20:29 He's Sweet I Know and God Restores. 20:31 So just to show and share with others what God has done 20:34 for us in our lives as well. 20:36 And basically just to show God's love. 20:39 I agree. 20:40 We thank you so much and you all at home 20:42 get ready for "His." 20:47 I found a Savior and He's sweet 20:58 He's sweet I know 21:07 He's sweet I know 21:15 Dark clouds may rise 21:25 And strong winds may blow 21:39 I will tell the world 21:47 Wherever I go 21:56 That I have found a Savior 22:04 And He's, He's sweet I know 22:20 He knows my name 22:29 He knows my every thought 22:38 He sees each tear that falls 22:45 And hears me when I call 22:54 And hears me when I call 23:02 And hears me when I call 23:21 We like you to know that no matter 23:23 what you're going through God Restores. 23:28 God restores 23:36 God restores 23:44 God restores 23:52 God restores 23:59 He restores my mind 24:04 He restores my soul 24:08 With his healing hands 24:12 I'm made whole 24:16 He makes my life complete 24:21 My reunion is so sweet 24:26 I'm a living testimony 24:30 God restores 24:35 God restores 24:43 God restores 24:52 God restores 25:00 God restores 25:08 Oh, You make all things new 25:13 Yes, You make all things new 25:18 And I will follow you forward 25:26 Oh, You make all things new 25:31 Yes, You make all things new 25:36 And I will follow you forward 25:44 Oh, You make all things new 25:50 Yes, You make all things new 25:55 And I will follow you forward 26:03 Oh, You make all things new 26:08 Yes, You make all things new 26:14 And I will follow you forward 26:23 For God restores 26:35 God restores 26:44 God restores 26:53 God restores 27:04 And now I am made new 27:13 Made new 27:20 Made new 27:30 Magnify the Lord with me 27:33 Magnify Him 27:37 Wow. Lyndon, that was an amazing program. 27:40 I really enjoyed myself and those girls. 27:42 Yes. Wow. 27:43 They could really sing in. 27:44 And we hope and pray here at Magnify Him 27:47 that you received 27:48 an awesome blessing from the music 27:50 and the testimonies that you heard today. 27:51 Yeah. 27:52 They were so talented and you know, they are young 27:55 so let's continue to keep them in prayer that 27:57 they just keeping using their gifts for God. 27:58 Absolutely. You know what? 28:00 And until next time, 28:01 lift up the name of Jesus and Magnify Him! |
