00:14 Hi, and welcome to day ten of Ten Days of Prayer;
00:17 a prayer program from our friends at 00:19 revivalandreformation.org 00:22 There are some beautiful promises found in John's gospel. 00:29 Listen. 00:30 "I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, 00:33 that He may abide with you forever..." 00:35 "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." 00:39 "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; 00:41 and My father will love him, and We will come to him 00:44 and make Our home with him." 00:46 Listen to this powerful testimony. 00:49 "One Sabbath I was standing at the kitchen sink 00:51 in our fellowship hall washing dishes after potluck. 00:54 A young exchange student from Russia was drying the dishes. 00:57 I knew she was not a Christian, so I silently prayed about 01:00 how to take advantage of this time doing dishes together. 01:03 'I have a question for you, if you don't mind,' I said. 01:06 'Sure, what is it?' she replied. 01:09 'Why is it that so many people in Russia 01:11 are not Christians?' I asked. 01:14 'You may as well ask me why I am not a 01:16 Christian,' she said with a grin. 01:18 'Okay,' I said in a similar lighthearted manner. 01:21 'Why is it that you are not a Christian?' 01:23 'I simply do not have any evidence for the 01:25 existence of God,' she said matter-of-factly. 01:29 Then she asked, 'Why is it that you are a Christian?' 01:33 'Because I have plenty of evidence,' I responded. 01:35 She laughed and said, 'Okay, so what is your evidence?' 01:40 I then gave her my testimony of what God had done for me. 01:43 'I have an experiment, if you are willing to try it,' I said. 01:47 'I believe if you do this experiment, you will find 01:49 evidence for God. 01:51 I would like you to spend some time for the next 30 days 01:54 reading from the book of John. 01:56 If you finish before the 30 days is up, just start over. 01:59 I would also like you to pray to God when no one else knows. 02:03 Talk to Him about things only you would know about, 02:05 and ask Him for something that only you know you are asking, 02:08 then see what happens.' 02:10 'Okay,' she said, 'that sounds easy enough. 02:13 It will be an interesting experiment.' 02:15 As an exchange student, she was required to go wherever 02:18 her host family went so that she could 02:21 get a taste of the culture. 02:22 Therefore, every week she came to church 02:24 because that is what her host family did. 02:27 Two weeks after she began the experiment 02:29 I went over to her at church and asked, 02:31 'So, how is it going with the experiment?' 02:34 She was serious but pleasant as she said, 02:37 'I don't understand what is happening. 02:39 I still have two weeks to go, but already I am not 02:43 sure I can say there is no God anymore.' 02:46 'Good for you,' I responded. 'Keep going. 02:49 I'm sure you will find more evidence for God 02:52 if you keep an open mind.' 02:54 She smiled and thanked me as she left that day. 02:57 She went home to Russia before the 30 days were complete, 03:00 but I believe she and God were getting better acquainted." 03:05 How do we abide in the presence of the Father, 03:08 Son, and Holy Spirit? 03:10 We simply spend time in Bible study 03:13 with an open heart and mind. 03:14 Jesus is the Word; and if we have seen Him, 03:17 we have seen the Father. 03:19 Also, it was the Holy Spirit who inspired the Word of God. 03:23 So, as we read the Bible and believe its teachings 03:25 and promises, we are changed into the image of Jesus. 03:29 Nest, as we pray to God, opening our hearts to Him 03:32 as to a friend, the Holy Spirit draws near, 03:36 our hearts are softened, and our spirit is braced 03:39 for the challenges ahead. 03:41 As we pray, Satan's power over us is broken 03:45 and we are able to overcome his temptations with God's strength. 03:49 And lastly, as we obey the Bible and share it with others, 03:53 we are drawn close to the heart of God, 03:56 and our inner being is at peace. 03:59 Let's take one more look to see what God says 04:02 about prayer in His Word. 04:04 In 1 Timothy 2:1-4, it says when we pray, 04:10 the Holy Spirit blesses the world around us 04:13 and brings people to salvation. 04:17 In Romans 8:26, the Holy Spirit wants to help us 04:22 become people of prayer. 04:24 And blessings will surely follow. 04:37 Day by day, and with each passing moment, 04:43 strength I find to meet my trials here; 04:50 trusting in My Father's wise bestowment, 04:57 I've no cause for worry or for fear. 05:04 He whose heart is kind beyond all measure 05:11 gives unto each day what He deems best. 05:18 Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure, 05:25 mingling toil with peace and rest. 05:35 Every day the Lord Himself is near me 05:41 with a special mercy for each hour; 05:47 all my cares He fain would bear and cheer me, 05:53 He whose name is Counselor and power. 05:59 The protection of His child and treasure 06:05 is a charge that on Himself He laid. 06:12 As your days, your strength shall be in measure; 06:20 this the pledge to me He made. 06:35 Let's take time once again to pray. 06:40 Dear heavenly Father, I ask that You will create in me 06:43 a hunger for Your Word so that I delight to spend time with You. 06:50 As I read Your Word, God, I ask that You would give me 06:54 a clear understanding of Your character 07:00 and a clear understanding of Your will for my life. 07:06 Jesus, please send Your Holy Spirit into my life 07:11 and make me a person of prayer. 07:15 Turn me into a powerful intercessor 07:18 so that many will be saved and freed from 07:21 Satan's chains of darkness. 07:24 May my mind and my heart be ever in tune with Your will. 07:28 Cause me to walk in perfect obedience to Your commandments 07:32 and the rest of Your Word. 07:39 Lord, we lift up our church leaders once again 07:42 around the world. 07:44 I pray that You will give them wisdom 07:46 as they make important decisions and lead Your people. 07:58 Lord, we pray for our children. 08:01 We ask that You will empower them, Lord, to stand boldly 08:04 for You when they encounter obstacles and pressures. 08:10 Help them to make wise choices and to stand for truth. 08:24 We pray for our families whose world is filled with chaos, 08:29 sorrow, and confusion. 08:37 Thank You, Lord, that You are the antithesis of all of those. 08:41 You bring joy and life and hope. 08:46 That's why You are the answer to all the trouble that we face. 08:56 Lord, may a mighty revival of godliness 08:59 sweep Your church in the final days. 09:07 May we stand for truth though the heavens fall. 09:26 Lord, I lift up Your children who are experiencing persecution 09:31 as they share their faith with Muslims. 09:36 Thank You, Father, for ministering to the Muslims, 09:40 for those who are giving their lives to You, 09:44 turning away from the religion of their tradition. 09:52 Lord, I ask that You will bless them with protection 09:57 and open the door for discipleship that they may grow 10:00 in the knowledge of You and know more about You, God. 10:08 Lord, I just ask for all the people of varying faiths 10:16 who have not found the truth of Jesus Christ. 10:22 Lord, I ask that You will please send missionaries, 10:28 send Your people, to spread the gospel. 10:37 Lord, I thank You for those people who risk their lives 10:40 to share the gospel with others. 10:45 Lord, put that in my heart. 10:47 Fill me with compassion for the lost. 10:50 Fill my eyes with tears for the hurting. 10:56 Break my heart with the things that break Your heart, God. 11:08 Lord, we read in Luke's gospel that we are to love our enemies, 11:14 and we're to do good to those who hate us, 11:17 to bless those who curse us, pray for those who mistreat us. 11:23 God, I pray that You will strengthen those of us 11:29 in situations where that's a struggle 11:34 to pray for those who mistreat us, to love our enemies. 11:39 I ask that You will cause their loving actions to be noticed 11:44 by those who persecute them. 11:48 Help us all to act out of faith despite the circumstances, 11:55 that we may have an open door to share 11:57 the gospel with our enemies. 12:03 Lord, I thank You for leaders who care about 12:06 issues that are impacting the most vulnerable. 12:12 We ask that You will help all leaders 12:14 to care for people in need. 12:16 Especially for children. 12:21 Lord, I ask that You would press on the hearts of constituents 12:25 a desire and a drive to reach out to their government leaders 12:28 on issues surrounding global poverty. 12:35 Lord, that You would soften leader's hearts 12:38 toward these issues. 12:44 Father, thank You that we see Your hand moving in our lives. 12:52 Through Your provision, through Your grace, 12:57 through Your help, through Your healing, we thank You. 13:01 Day by day in every tribulation, 13:09 so to trust Your promises, O Lord, 13:16 that I lose not faith's sweet consolation 13:22 offered me within Your holy Word. 13:29 Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting, 13:37 e'er to take, as from a Father's hand, 13:44 one by one, the days, the moments fleeting, 13:51 till I reach the promised land. 14:30 Father, for those who are bound by addiction, 14:33 those who have no resistance to substance abuse, 14:38 God, I ask that You would stir them to see their need for You. 14:45 Jesus, I know that You died for these people. 14:49 You hold the keys of death, hell, and the grave. 14:55 So, Lord, I pray that You would release and break the chains. 15:02 May these people turn to You for their deliverance. 15:09 God, please fill us with compassion. 15:12 We have friends and family who need Your salvation. 15:18 I lift up those who are on my list. 15:22 God, save them. 15:25 Set them on a new path and fill them with Your Holy Spirit 15:29 to have a new life with greater purpose. 15:37 Lord, I lift up those who are facing dementia and Alzheimer's. 15:44 Lord, I ask that You would restore mercy, 15:47 that You would renew brain cells. 15:50 Lord, that You would grant healing 15:56 for the families who helplessly watch their loved ones. 16:00 God, please give them grace. 16:04 Give them patience and love for their ailing loved one. 16:15 And, Lord, that You would bless those who are 16:19 doing research for these diseases. 16:28 Lord, we know You have the answer. 16:34 God, thank You that You care about needs. 16:40 Lord, I know that there are those who are watching 16:43 who are in need of housing, 16:48 in need of transportation, 16:52 those who are in need of a better job, 16:58 in need of getting out of debt. 17:04 God, make us aware of the needs of those around us 17:06 and give us hearts to bear each other's burdens. 17:28 And, Lord, I pray for new husbands and new fathers 17:31 who are adjusting to the dynamic of marriage and 17:36 family life, those who are feeling overwhelmed 17:40 by responsibility and the task of providing for their families. 17:47 God, grant them grace, grant them strength to be faithful 17:52 in their relationships. 17:59 And likewise, I pray, God, for new wives and new mothers. 18:09 The overwhelming feeling of having to 18:15 take care of another life, 18:17 to be responsible for that child. 18:25 Father, again I thank You that You care. 18:29 Thank You that You are touched with the 18:31 things that touch us, Lord. 18:36 I love You, God. 18:39 I bless Your name, God. 18:44 Lord, I pray that as we search for knowledge and study, 18:49 may we discover divine treasure, Lord, in Your holy Word. 18:53 It's full, Your Word is so full. 18:56 Every time we read the same passage over and over, 18:59 we can find new truths. 19:04 So I pray that You will give us discernment to sift through 19:07 what we read, 19:12 to find the true gems of Your kingdom. 19:24 Lord, I don't want wisdom that leads to power or fortune, 19:30 but I want the wisdom that leads to faith and love. 19:35 Guide us as we hunger for Your truth, 19:37 for the meat of Your Word. 19:40 Then help us lovingly share Your Word with others. 20:03 Jesus, in Your name we pray, 20:10 come and fill our hearts today; 20:17 Lord, give us strength to live for You 20:23 and glorify Your name. 20:30 For Your name is a strong and mighty tower, 20:37 Your name is a shelter like no other. 20:43 Your name; let the nations sing it louder. 20:50 Because nothing has the power to save 20:58 like Your name. 21:01 It's a strong and mighty tower, 21:04 Your name is a shelter like no other. 21:10 Your name; let the nations sing it louder. 21:18 Because nothing has the power to save 21:25 like Your name. 21:52 So, Father, we thank You for all that You have provided; 21:59 for the physical provision, and the financial provision, 22:04 for emotional and spiritual provision. 22:08 Every need is supplied by Your hand. 22:14 I just want to stop and say, "Thank You." 22:20 Thank You for Your provision. 22:23 Thank You for meeting my need, 22:28 and the needs over the ten days we've prayed. 22:32 We thank You that You are providing and meeting the needs. 22:38 Lord, may I never forget that my citizenship is in heaven. 22:43 No matter what happens in my life here on earth, 22:47 You are in control. 22:51 And You have promised to care for Your children. 22:58 Thank You for the desire that You have given me 23:01 to live in a manner that is pleasing to You. 23:07 Lord, I thank You that I don't have to put my hope and trust 23:10 in the leaders of this world, 23:13 nor the things of this world that are passing away. 23:18 But, Lord, You assure me that my hope is built on nothing less 23:24 than You, Jesus, and Your righteousness. 23:31 And I praise You and I thank You. 23:42 Thank You, Father, that You know the end from the beginning, 23:45 and that You are truly in control of all that happens. 23:53 All around this world, God, You are in control. 23:59 And I thank You for Your guidance, for Your protection, 24:05 and again for Your provision for all of Your children. 24:11 Lord, I thank You that we can and we do know 24:16 that our future is secure in You. 24:21 No matter what may take place in this world, 24:23 our future is secure in You. 24:30 Father, I praise Your name and I thank You 24:33 for Your loving kindness. 24:39 Amazing love, how can it be 24:46 that You, my King, would die for me? 24:54 Amazing love, I know it's true, 25:01 and it's my joy to honor You. 25:08 Amazing love, how can it be 25:15 that You, my King, would die for me? 25:22 Amazing love, I know it's true, 25:30 and it's my joy to honor You. 25:35 In all I do, I honor You. 25:46 Now as you go through this year, I exhort you to be 25:49 joyful in hope, patient in affliction, 25:53 faithful in prayer. 25:56 Don't be anxious about anything, 25:58 but in everything by prayer and petition, 26:01 with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 26:05 And the peace of God which transcends all understanding 26:09 will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 26:13 Now may the power of Jesus Christ continually fill you 26:17 with joy, grace, peace, and hope through the Holy Spirit. 26:22 And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and 26:25 peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope 26:30 by the power of the Holy Spirit. 26:32 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. 26:48 Be sure and join us tomorrow evening 26:52 for a two hour
