" 04:30 Amen. 04:31 Doug: Thank you Pastor Ross and once again Friends, 04:34 don't go after this Presentation, 04:36 we're going to be getting back together again 04:39 and answering your Bible questions 04:40 so, I would encourage you, 04:42 if you got any questions on the Study 04:44 that you're going to hear tonight, 04:45 I expect there will be some, 04:46 you can just send them in via Facebook 04:49 and we'll be looking at a number of those 04:51 after the Presentation. 04:52 As Pastor Ross mentioned, tonight's study is called: 04:56 Cleansing the Sanctuary. 04:57 We're going to be talking about the temple in the Bible... 05:00 the temple that's in the world today... 05:03 talk a little bit about: 05:04 Will the Jewish Temple ever be rebuilt? 05:07 and: Does God have a temple in heaven? 05:10 But before we go to the Study, 05:12 I thought it would be good once again 05:14 to just go out on the street and interact a little bit 05:17 with some American citizens 05:18 and find out what their feedback is 05:20 regarding some of these issues. 05:22 Okay, I do believe that the Hebrew temple will be built 05:28 in Israel, 05:29 I also believe that God will be calling 05:31 all of the Israelites home... Jewish people home 05:33 before the end of time. 05:35 The Temple was a very specific... 05:37 it had to be built in a very specific way 05:40 and in some of the early books of the Old Testament, 05:44 it talked about, you know, the exact dimensions of everything 05:48 and that sort of thing and wasn't there a veil? 05:50 And you couldn't go behind the veil or something like that 05:56 and then, yeah, I guess the... 06:00 the purpose of the temple, I guess, 06:02 again, I'm not a scholar on this but was to house the Scriptures. 06:07 The Old Testament Sanctuary in the Bible... 06:09 I think was used to protect the Ten Commandments. 06:13 Well, they've got some interesting concepts here 06:17 but some of them are very close to the truth 06:20 regarding what was the purpose of the Jewish temple? 06:23 Now, when we talk about the temple, 06:26 you might be thinking, 06:27 "What in the world does this subject have to do 06:29 with the book of Revelation?" 06:31 You can read in Revelation, it tells us... 06:33 "And in the midst of the seven lampstands... 06:36 One stood like the Son of Man, 06:38 clothed with a garment down to the feet 06:41 and girded about the chest with a golden band. " 06:44 The book of Revelation is set in the context 06:48 of a temple, 06:50 in particular, the temple that you find in the Bible. 06:52 It's so important to understand this subject 06:55 because as you go through the Scriptures, 06:57 you're going to find that the Jewish temple appears 07:00 over and over again in prophecy. 07:02 I've got just a small list here that I can share with you. 07:04 If you look for instance in Isaiah chapter 6, 07:07 he has this vision... 07:09 he sees God on His throne in the temple of heaven 07:11 with the two angels on the right and the left 07:14 called Cherubim 07:16 and they're crying, "Holy, Holy, Holy... " 07:17 and then you go to Ezekiel chapter 40... chapter 41... 07:21 temple is mentioned over and over again. 07:24 Not only there, you find it in Revelation, 07:27 you can find reference to the candlesticks 07:29 that were in the temple, 07:31 the Altar of Sacrifice in the temple... 07:32 that's Revelation 6 verse 9, 07:34 the Altar of Incense... that's Revelation 8 verse 3, 07:38 it's mentioned four times there... 07:39 the Ark of the Covenant... 07:41 that was the container for the Ten Commandments, 07:43 is in Revelation 11 verse 19. 07:46 It's in Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Jonah, Micah, Habakkuk, 07:52 Haggai, Zechariah, 07:54 and the last book of the Old Testament... Malachi, 07:56 and Jesus talks about it during His ministry. 07:59 This is probably one of the most neglected subjects 08:02 that Christians are... are hearing about 08:05 that is all the way through the Bible 08:07 and in the same way that some of those ancient temples 08:10 were designed for more... 08:12 they were just to keep the sun off of them 08:15 or to, you know, just house a place of worship, 08:19 there was something in their design 08:21 that had a lot of sophistication and meaning. 08:24 Well, nothing could be more true of the Hebrew temple 08:28 and we're going to find out a little more about that 08:31 as we delve into our study today. 08:32 Now, you remember when the Lord first brought the people 08:35 out of Egypt and they crossed the Red Sea, 08:38 He did not lead them right up to the Promised Land. 08:41 He took them down to Mount Sinai... 08:44 took them south and away from the Promised Land 08:46 to Mount Horeb 08:48 and there, of course, Moses gets the Ten Commandments 08:51 but he was on the mountain forty days and forty nights 08:54 and all that time on the mountain 08:56 was not just so God could write the Ten Commandments. 08:59 While he was up there on the mountain, 09:02 God gave Moses very specific instructions 09:04 on how to build a sanctuary. 09:07 This was going to be a very unique building 09:09 and the Bible tells us, 09:11 "Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary. " 09:13 The way that God saves people 09:16 is in this ancient Hebrew structure. 09:19 It also tells us about Christ. 09:21 You remember when Jesus was there at the Jewish temple 09:26 and the religious leaders were debating with Him, 09:28 and He said, "Destroy this temple 09:30 and in three days I'll raise it up. " 09:32 And they said, 09:33 "What! it's taken 46 years for us to build this temple, 09:36 how are you going to raise it up in three days?" 09:39 But He wasn't speaking of the physical temple, 09:41 He was talking about His body. 09:43 The church is called the temple of God. 09:45 This ancient structure teaches us about the church, 09:48 it teaches us about our physical bodies... 09:50 teaches us about the plan of salvation 09:53 and it teaches us about prophecy 09:55 as we'll find out more tonight. 09:57 Now, just to give you an introduction, 09:59 we've got a picture on the screen here... 10:01 This is sort of an aerial view of the first temple. 10:04 Now, in the Bible, in the Old Testament, 10:07 there's really three temples. 10:08 You got the temple that Moses built... 10:10 it was a portable tabernacle like the one you see here 10:13 that they carried with them 10:14 as they wandered through the wilderness. 10:16 Then, when they settled in the Promised Land, 10:19 David amassed an enormous amount of gold and silver 10:22 and he helped his son build this beautiful temple... 10:25 sometimes called: Solomon's temple 10:27 and it lasted about 400 years. 10:30 That was destroyed... as we mentioned in an earlier study 10:33 by King Nebuchadnezzar 10:34 and then after they came back from the Babylonian captivity, 10:37 under the leadership of Ezra, Nehemiah... 10:41 they then built a third temple. 10:43 That was later refurbished by Herod the Great... 10:47 he was a very passionate builder... Hasmonean King 10:51 but he was also a wicked man, 10:52 he's the one that killed the babies in Bethlehem 10:54 but he loved building 10:55 and he refurbished the temple 10:57 so it was one of the wonders of the world 10:59 during the Roman Era... the Jewish temple 11:01 until it was destroyed in 70 A.D. 11:04 and many are wondering, 11:05 is that temple going to be rebuilt again? 11:08 We're getting ahead of ourselves I'll get to that 11:10 so, just looking at this picture of the first tabernacle 11:13 going through the wilderness, okay, take a breath... 11:16 Friends, you got to help me tonight. 11:18 I need you to listen fast because I'm going to talk fast 11:22 so, after this Program is over, hopefully you've got software 11:25 so you can slow down the sermon and listen to it again 11:29 because I've got to cover a lot of information, 11:30 and I want it to be clear. 11:33 The temple had one entrance... 11:35 there's one way for salvation, Jesus said, "I am the door... 11:39 anyone else that comes over the wall 11:41 is a thief and a robber. " 11:43 Jesus is the door... there was one door. 11:45 First thing you saw when you came in 11:47 was an altar for sacrificing lambs. 11:50 Jesus is the Lamb... 11:51 the one who would offer the sacrifice was the High Priest. 11:54 Jesus is the High Priest 11:56 and then you went to the altar there... 11:59 that's a symbol of the cross... 12:01 the next thing is you would come to the altar of water 12:05 the laver of water... 12:06 that represents Jesus who is also our living water 12:10 and after you accept Christ 12:12 and then we go to... you accept the blood of the lamb 12:16 and then you go to the water... children of Israel... 12:19 they sacrificed the Passover lamb 12:21 then they went through the Red Sea. 12:23 You can read in 1st Corinthians chapter 10, 12:25 Paul said, "The plan of salvation 12:27 is like what the children of Israel did. 12:29 They were baptized in the fire and the water. " 12:32 Jesus said, "Unless you are born of the water and the Spirit, 12:36 you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. " 12:38 You had to go by the fire and the water 12:40 before you went towards the presence of God. 12:43 We must be born of the water and the fire. 12:46 The water represents our choice of baptism... 12:48 the fire is God's choice... His Spirit... 12:51 and then we move into the next area together. 12:54 Once you got... and here again, it's just a... 12:57 an artist's rendering of the altar and the laver 13:00 and then once you enter the... the main temple, 13:03 the first apartment was called: The Holy Place. 13:06 In there, you had a seven-lamp candlestick. 13:09 You know in Revelation chapter 1, 13:12 Jesus first appears in this room... 13:14 in the sanctuary among the seven candlesticks... 13:17 not in an earthly temple but in a heavenly temple 13:20 and Jesus is the light of the world 13:22 but not only is Jesus the light of the world, 13:24 He said to the church, "You are to reflect My light, 13:27 you are the light of the world... 13:29 do not put your light under a bush. " 13:30 By the way, the walls of the temple were golden 13:36 and so, they would reflect the light. 13:38 Then on the opposite side, 13:40 was a table called the Table of Shewbread 13:42 and there were 12 loaves of bread. 13:44 Jesus is the bread of life 13:46 and that represents the Word of God 13:48 and then, directly in front of the veil... 13:51 there's only three articles of furniture in this room 13:54 but they're all full of meaning with the altar of incense, 13:57 they would come in and they had hot coals there... 13:59 they took the coals off the altar out in the courtyard, 14:02 they brought them in, they put them there, 14:03 they put some beautiful incense, some frankincense... 14:06 some myrrh on there... 14:08 that was representing... 14:09 then the prayers of God's people 14:11 would waft over this veil... 14:13 this altar of incense was in front of a veil 14:15 that separated the last compartment 14:18 that represented the presence of God 14:20 and that was where the Ark of the Covenant was 14:23 but back to the three articles of furniture in this room. 14:26 They represent... and they all represent Jesus, 14:29 Jesus is our High Priest... it intercedes with our prayers 14:32 and you've got three articles of furniture... 14:34 of course there's three persons in the godhead... 14:37 there are three disciplines in the Christian life, 14:39 you have: Bible... prayer... witnessing... 14:45 letting your light shine... 14:47 the lamp... let your light shine, 14:49 the altar of incense... prayer, 14:51 the Table of Shewbread... the Bible, 14:54 "Man doesn't live by bread alone, 14:57 but by every word. " 14:58 Those are the three secret weapons 15:00 to success in the Christian life. 15:02 You show me a backslidden Christian, 15:04 I will show you somebody who is neglecting 15:06 one of those three things. 15:07 They're either not spending time in the Word... 15:10 they're not spending time on their knees... 15:12 and they're not letting others know about their faith. 15:14 If you don't do those things, 15:16 you cannot flourish as a Christian. 15:18 Then, you go into the inner sanctum... 15:21 the Holy of Holies... 15:22 it was called one thing in there... 15:24 this was the most sacred place in the Jewish world 15:28 and it was where the Ark of the Covenant was 15:31 and that's some of our... on the street interview said, 15:35 "Wasn't it something to contain the Scriptures?" 15:37 Well, yes it was the Scriptures written by the finger of God. 15:40 On the outside of the Ark and you can see in this picture, 15:43 there's a scroll leaning against the outside... 15:46 that was the ordinances in the Ceremonial Laws... 15:48 they were put in a pocket on the outside of the Ark. 15:51 On the inside of the Ark, you have the Ten Commandments 15:53 written by the finger of God... 15:56 the Word of God... the Law of God 15:58 written on stone... 15:59 everybody wishes they could find the golden box 16:02 but what was really important was the rocks in the box 16:04 and if you want to know what is in the rocks in the box, 16:07 you have it in your Bible in Exodus chapter 20 16:10 and Deuteronomy chapter 5... 16:12 that's the Ten Commandments... the holy Word of God. 16:15 and so, the top of the Ark where the two angels are 16:19 the Shekinah glory would appear to Moses and Aaron 16:23 on the Day of Atonement... 16:24 Moses... whenever he went in, God would communicate... 16:26 it represented the presence of God. 16:29 and so, this is a miniature picture 16:32 of a very real temple that God has in heaven 16:35 and we learn about the plan of salvation from this temple. 16:39 Now, we're going to go... 16:41 and before we get into our questions, 16:43 we always like to start with a Study 16:45 and a story, I should say, from the Bible, 16:48 many of you remember when Jesus... He did it twice... 16:52 once at the beginning... 16:53 once at the end of this ministry... 16:55 He was in Jerusalem and He went into the temple 16:58 and He was very offended by what He saw 17:01 because this place that was to be a house of prayer... 17:04 they were now selling sacrifices 17:07 and the priests and salesmen were arguing 17:10 with the worshippers over the price 17:11 and they had to exchange their money 17:13 for the temple coin and they did this 17:14 at much inflated prices 17:16 and they were arguing and debating 17:18 and you could hear the lowing of the oxen 17:20 and the cooing of the doves 17:22 and the bleating of the sheep 17:23 and it was a bizarre... 17:25 it was like a cacophony of confusion 17:27 and Jesus went in there 17:29 and He heard the sights and the smells and the sound 17:31 and He walked over and He took some cords 17:35 that were probably used to like... tie off the sheep 17:38 and He said, "Take these things hence... " 17:41 He made a whip out of the cords... 17:43 "take these things hence... 17:44 my Father's house is to be a house of prayer 17:47 but you have made it a den of thieves... " 17:50 and He chased them all out of the temple. 17:52 Now, it's interesting... He did this twice during His ministry 17:55 and when He said it, He said, 18:00 "My Father's House... 18:01 My Father's House... " 18:03 but at the end of His ministry, 18:06 the last time He left the temple, 18:08 He said, "Behold, your house is left to you desolate. " 18:11 His wording changed... 18:13 somewhere along the way, 18:15 He said it went from "My Father's house" 18:17 to your house 18:18 because when they as a nation rejected Jesus, 18:22 the purpose of that temple was going to meet its completion 18:26 at that point. 18:27 So, we're going to get into our lesson now 18:30 and I think this is going to make more sense 18:32 as we unpack it along the way. 18:34 First question... 18:35 we begin by studying the longest time prophecy 18:38 that tells us about when the sanctuary is cleansed. 18:41 We just saw Jesus cleansing the sanctuary in the New Testament. 18:44 There's a prophecy in the Old Testament... 18:47 go to Daniel chapter 8. 18:48 Now, I'm going to read a little bit... 18:50 Daniel chapter 8 and in this prophecy 18:53 here the prophet talks about a great judgment day 18:57 and the sanctuary being cleansed. 18:59 So, I'll begin with verse 3 here... 19:02 or we're at the end of verse 2 I guess, 19:04 "And I saw in the vision; and I was by the river Ulai. 19:09 And then I lifted up mine eyes, and I saw, 19:12 and there standing by the river was a ram... " 19:15 that's a male sheep... 19:17 "with two horns: and the two horns were high; 19:21 but one was higher than the other, 19:23 and it came up last. 19:25 And I saw the ram pushing westward... 19:28 northward, and southward; 19:30 so that no animal could withstand him 19:32 nor was there any that could deliver from his hand; 19:35 but he did according to his will, 19:37 and became great. 19:38 And as I was considering, 19:41 suddenly, a male goat came from the west 19:43 across the surface of the whole ground, 19:45 without touching the ground: 19:47 and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes. 19:51 And when he came to the ram that had the two horns, 19:54 which I had seen standing by the river, 19:56 he ran at him with furious power. 19:58 And I saw him confronting the ram, 20:00 and he was moved with rage against him, 20:03 and attacked the ram, and broke his two horns: 20:05 and there was no power in the ram to withstand him, 20:09 but he cast him down to the ground, and trampled him: 20:12 and there was no one that could deliver the ram from his hand. 20:15 Therefore the male goat grew very great: 20:17 but when he became strong, the large horn was broken; 20:22 and in its place four notable horns came up... " 20:25 that's interesting... you got a goat with four horns, 20:27 "towards the four winds. 20:29 And out of one of those four horns, 20:32 it sprouted off a little branch... a little horn, 20:35 which grew exceedingly great, towards the south, 20:37 and the east, and towards the Glorious Land. 20:40 And it grew up to the host of heaven; 20:42 and it cast down some of the host... 20:45 the stars to the ground, 20:46 and it trampled them. 20:48 He even exalted himself as high as the prince of the host. 20:52 And by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, 20:56 and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. 20:59 Because of transgression, an army was given over to him 21:03 to oppose the daily sacrifices... " 21:05 this is the plan of salvation... 21:06 "and he cast the truth down to the ground. " 21:10 Right... so we talk about this, these... goat and ram 21:14 they represent kingdoms 21:15 and it tells us the ram... he comes up 21:18 and then the goat destroys him... 21:20 the main horn of the goat broken off... 21:23 four horns come up... 21:25 a sprout comes off one of those horns... 21:28 it grows into a great kingdom 21:30 and it begins to war against God 21:32 and it casts the truth down to the ground. 21:34 So, the issue in this study is... 21:37 what's going on when it casts the truth down to the ground? 21:39 And it says, "Then I heard one holy one... " 21:42 an angel... "speaking; and another holy one 21:45 said to that certain one that was speaking; 21:47 'How long... '" 21:48 now the angels are asking a question 21:50 about a time prophecy regarding nations. 21:52 "How long will the vision be, concerning the daily sacrifices 21:56 and transgression of desolation" 21:59 now, Jesus talks about the abomination of desolation, 22:02 "the transgression of desolation, 22:04 the giving of both the sanctuary and the host 22:07 to be trampled underfoot?" 22:08 Now, here's the punch line of what we're studying, right now, 22:11 "He said unto me, 'For two thousand three hundred days; 22:15 then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. '" 22:18 Okay, I did a lot of reading 22:19 but now, I wanted you to get the backdrop... 22:21 if you didn't get it all, don't worry, 22:23 we're going to back up and we're going to explain it 22:25 as we proceed. 22:27 Daniel has an amazing vision 22:28 in which he sees a ram with two horns. 22:31 Who does this Ram represent? 22:33 Well, the angel comes back and he explains. 22:36 The ram which you saw having the two horns 22:39 are the kings of Media and Persia. 22:42 You've got two horns but one ends up getting higher, 22:44 it's because it started out as a Medo-Persian kingdom, 22:47 we're going to be a dual confederacy 22:48 but the Media sort of got absorbed by the Persians 22:51 and history really records it mostly now 22:54 as the Persian Empire. 22:55 So, this is the Persian Empire... 22:57 that was the Medo-Persian Empire 23:00 that was to follow the Babylonian Empire. 23:03 In this vision... in Daniel chapter 8, 23:05 he doesn't talk about Babylon anymore, 23:07 Babylon fell in chapter 6, 23:08 so, now he's talking about the next kingdom 23:11 and the one after that... 23:12 and the one after that, 23:14 and we're going to catch up with those. 23:16 Next Daniel saw a goat with a great horn between his eyes, 23:20 What does this mean? 23:22 Well, let me just pause here for a moment, 23:24 we're talking about these beasts 23:25 and these beasts represent different kingdoms... 23:28 different powers. 23:30 If I were to ask our Studio Audience here... 23:32 if I say... an eagle... what country do you think of? 23:36 Of course here in the United States... 23:39 if you think of a lion... Great Britain, right? 23:44 Think of a bear? The Rooskies... Russia. 23:48 If you think of a dragon... China. 23:51 So, even today, we've got animals 23:55 and even States have their different animals 23:57 and so, today we think about animals 23:59 associated with countries, 24:00 they sort of got their animal logo... 24:02 well, in Bible prophecy, these different beasts 24:05 represented different powers and kingdoms... 24:07 and their horns... 24:09 Keep in mind... the Jewish people... 24:10 they were a nation of shepherds 24:12 and so, they were very well acquainted with sheep and goats. 24:15 Jesus tells parables about the sheep and the goat 24:18 being separated, Matthew 25 24:20 and so, Daniel's given this vision in a way 24:23 that his people could understand these different powers. 24:26 It's given an apocalyptic symbols to protect it 24:29 because he talks about the destruction 24:31 of the Persian Empire 24:32 and then later the destruction of the Greek Empire, 24:34 then he transitions into Rome 24:36 but I'm getting ahead again. 24:38 Next, Daniel saw a goat with a great horn between his eyes... 24:42 what does this mean? 24:43 Well, it tells us that this goat that demolishes the 24:47 kingdom of Medo-Persia... history makes it pretty clear: 24:51 The rough goat is the king of Grecia... 24:54 do we have to guess or does the Bible tell us 24:56 what these things mean? 24:57 The rough goat is the king of Greece 25:00 and the horn between his eyes is the first king. 25:03 Who is that Macedonian Greek king 25:06 that conquered with such speed? 25:09 He's known through much of the world 25:12 as Alexander the Great 25:14 and a very young king... 25:16 he started like 18 years of age 25:18 and in just about 11 years, he marched his army 25:23 11,000 miles 25:25 and he conquered Persia and... 25:28 and Egypt and many of the big kingdoms back then 25:31 and he did it quickly 25:33 and it says he grew very great... 25:35 he... you know, Alexander when he traveled, 25:38 he not only took a big army... 25:39 he took almost as big an army of scientists and linguists 25:43 and philosophers 25:44 because he was spreading the Greek culture 25:46 which they believe was superior 25:48 and you can even see it... 25:50 they can still find today some of the ancient Greek coins 25:53 that have Alexander's image. 25:55 He was that first large horn that was used to kill the ram. 26:00 Alexander came against the Persians 26:02 and even though he was a greatly outnumbered, 26:04 he was such a brilliant General... so courageous... 26:06 that they had no power to stand against him. 26:08 He just plowed ahead and his army followed after. 26:10 But, it says, that one being broken, 26:13 Alexander could conquer the world 26:16 but he could not conquer himself 26:18 and they're not sure whether it was poisoning 26:21 or Malaria 26:23 or alcohol that... that did it 26:26 but after a feast one night, 26:29 he got a fever and died not long after, 26:32 and I think I mentioned to you earlier 26:34 that when his Generals asked him "Who will rule in your place?" 26:37 he said, "The strongest... " 26:39 because he didn't really have a son old enough to rule. 26:42 Now, that being broken, when he died, 26:45 it says, "Whereas four stood up for it, 26:48 four kingdoms will stand up out of this nation. " 26:51 History is very clear about this that Alexander's Empire 26:54 it spread almost from India to Macedonia 26:57 down into Egypt and... 26:59 but when he died, he had sort of divided his Empire 27:03 among his main four Generals, Cassander, Lysimachus, 27:07 Ptolemy and Seleucus 27:09 and that was the divisions... it... just as the prophecy said, 27:14 in place of that one horn... four horns came up. 27:17 It says, "Then a little horn sprouts up 27:21 from one of the four horns. 27:24 So, from one division... I got to back up a slide here, 27:27 you see, one division of the kingdom, Cassander... 27:30 he ended up taking over some of the territory over by Rome 27:35 and from that sprout, another kingdom begins to come up. 27:40 Well, you read in the Bible, who was ruling after the Greeks? 27:44 It says, Claudius Caesar 27:46 had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome. 27:49 Rome was the power that was ruling... 27:51 they're the ones who, of course, 27:53 they had to get approval... 27:55 they execute Jesus... from the Romans. 27:57 So, you've got this great goat of the Greek kingdom... 28:02 middle horn breaks off... main horn breaks off... 28:05 four horns come up... those are the four divisions 28:08 but out of one of them, 28:10 the Roman Empire begins to emerge 28:13 and it ends up growing bigger than the other three 28:16 and it overpowers all the others 28:19 and that's exactly what happened in history. 28:21 Even today, in architecture, we call it Greco-Roman 28:24 because the Romans kind of grew up out of the Greeks, 28:27 they adopted and absorbed a number of their gods 28:30 and they adopted some of their culture and their... 28:33 their... even their government 28:34 and it says, "In this horn... this little horn... 28:39 were eyes like the eyes of a man... " 28:41 now, this is in Daniel 7 28:42 but it's talking about the same Little Horn. 28:44 His eyes were like the eyes of a man... 28:46 his mouth speaking great or pompous blasphemous things 28:49 and he will be diverse from the first... 28:52 and it's from this horn the anti-Christ power comes. 28:56 Now, I want to pause here... 28:58 when we're talking about the beasts here in Daniel, 29:02 we haven't read chapter 7 yet, 29:04 but chapter 7's got a lion... a bear... a leopard... 29:07 a strange beast... 29:09 and then we just read about... ram... a goat... 29:11 then we get to Revelation 29:13 and it talks about the beastie beast 29:16 that is a conglomeration of these beasts 29:19 and it tells us that he's the one who enforces 29:22 the Mark of the Beast. 29:24 We're not talking about 29:26 some monster coming out of the ground, 29:27 what we're talking about 29:29 is this is going to be a power 29:31 that is going to have an influence over the world. 29:32 It now grows out of Rome and spreads... 29:37 we're going to get to that... as a matter of fact, this week 29:39 Saturday morning we have a Program... 29:41 Friday night we have a Program 29:43 and we also have a program Saturday night, 29:45 talking about the Beast and the Mark of the Beast. 29:48 So, please tune in for those Programs. 29:51 So, Daniel was told that this little horn 29:54 would defile the sanctuary. 29:57 How long till it would be cleansed? 30:00 So, we read this... he said, 30:03 Two thousand three hundred days... 30:05 then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. 30:07 Cleansed from what? 30:09 Well, it said the Beast Power would cast the truth 30:11 to the ground 30:13 and it would interfere with the daily sacrifice... 30:15 meaning, the sacrifice of the lambs 30:17 represented the work and ministry of Jesus... 30:20 the gospel of salvation 30:22 and it would try to corrupt that and defile it 30:25 with lies and cast the truth to the ground, 30:28 so, it's a religious political power. 30:31 How did Daniel respond when he saw the little-horn power 30:36 persecuting God's people and obscure the truth? 30:38 Now, Daniel is getting older at this point... 30:41 he's in his 80s... 30:42 and he's so disappointed to see the persecution 30:46 God's people are going through, 30:47 he says, "And I Daniel fainted, and I was sick certain days; 30:52 and I was astonished at the vision, 30:55 but none understood it... " 30:56 and that's Daniel 8:27. 30:58 So, the angel tries to help him understand these things 31:01 but Daniel is... he's overwhelmed by it all, 31:04 so the angel realizes Daniel's getting up there... 31:08 he needs some time to rest and recover... ponder these things, 31:11 and the angel then comes back in the next chapter 31:15 and picks up where he left off 31:16 to not only explain the starting point for this 2,300 days 31:20 but he also adds the most important prophecy 31:24 that Daniel was praying about, 31:26 when will the Messiah come? 31:28 This was the yearning in the heart of every Jewish believer. 31:32 So, you go to Daniel chapter 9 31:36 and Daniel... we read all of Daniel chapter 9 31:38 and we're going to turn there real quick... 31:40 Daniel is praying 31:43 and in his prayer he's wondering 31:45 how long God is going to deal with His people 31:47 because they've got this roller coaster relationship. 31:50 One of the main purposes for the Jewish nation 31:53 was to demonstrate how God saves. 31:54 The way that He saved them from Egypt... 31:57 in spite of them being stubborn, 31:59 tells us how God can save us 32:01 in spite of our hard heartedness sometimes 32:03 and he converts us and gives us those soft hearts 32:06 and the New Covenant experience. 32:08 He's leading them through the plagues... 32:10 the devil doesn't want to let go of them... 32:12 Jesus saves us from the devil's resistance... 32:15 Red Sea... baptized in the water, 32:18 pillar of fire... baptized in the fire, 32:20 they get hungry... bread from heaven, 32:23 man lives by the Word of God... 32:25 they get thirsty... living water from a rock, 32:27 Paul says, "Jesus is the rock... " 32:29 the whole experience of the children of Israel 32:31 is really telling us about the plan of salvation 32:34 and when they build that tabernacle 32:36 out in the wilderness, 32:38 it illustrates how we're saved 32:41 and the defiling of that tabernacle 32:43 is representing a defiling of the gospel. 32:46 Now, I think everyone knows 32:48 there's a lot of hypocrisy and a lot of corruption 32:50 that is constantly trying to find its way 32:52 into Christianity. 32:54 It's the most divided religion in the world 32:56 and that's because the devil is always attacking it. 32:59 So, Daniel begins his prayer... Daniel chapter 9 verse 23, 33:03 and the angel comes to him 33:06 and the angel says, 33:07 "At the beginning of your supplication 33:09 the command went out, and I've come to tell you. " 33:11 That's good to know that speed of light... 33:15 186,000 miles a second... 33:18 speed of sound... depending on air pressure and altitude 33:22 about 700 miles an hour. 33:23 Angels travel a speed where the highway patrol 33:26 will never catch you 33:28 because he leaves heaven at the beginning of Daniel's prayer 33:31 out in the cosmos somewhere 33:33 and he streaks through space the speed of thought 33:36 and gets through earth by the time Daniel's done praying 33:39 and he says, why he has come? 33:41 In the next chapter, 33:43 the angel explains the prophecy in greater detail. 33:47 How long was the time period not previously mentioned 33:51 in the vision? 33:52 So, now the angel says, 33:53 "Look, I want to give you one more thing, 33:55 you couldn't handle before you fainted, 33:56 I'm going to finish up my message and my mission. " 34:00 If you look in Daniel chapter 9 and it tells us 34:04 the angel says... I'll start with verse 22, 34:08 "And he informed me... " 34:10 and by the way, this is Gabriel 34:11 who later, we know because he comes to Mary 34:14 100s of years later and he hasn't aged a bit, 34:17 it's nice to know we'll have glorified bodies 34:19 like that some day 34:21 and so, Gabriel who I'd seen at the vision at the beginning 34:25 being caused to fly swiftly, 34:27 he reached me about the time of the evening offering... " 34:30 and if you go to Daniel 9 verse 23, 34:33 he says, "At the beginning of your supplications 34:35 the command went out... " from God 34:37 "and I've come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; 34:41 therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision: 34:44 'Seventy weeks are determined... '" 34:46 that word "determined" means cut off... 34:48 "Seventy weeks are determined for your people... " 34:51 who are his people? 34:52 Jewish nation, right? 34:54 "To finish transgression, to make an end of sins, 34:59 to make reconciliation for iniquity, 35:02 to bring in everlasting righteousness, 35:04 to seal up the vision... " to finish off this vision, 35:07 "And to anoint the Most Holy. " 35:10 Who is the Most Holy? 35:12 It's got to be Jesus, right? 35:14 Then he gives it time... 35:16 he says, "know therefore and understand, 35:18 that from the going forth of the command... " 35:20 okay, here it is, you can underscore this, 35:22 this is verse 25, 35:24 it's the starting point for the visions 35:26 for both the 2,300-Day vision 35:28 and for the 490-Year vision. 35:31 So, he said, 35:33 "Seventy weeks are determined upon your people. " 35:35 A week has got how many days? 35:37 Seven... 35:39 seventy weeks is how many days? 35:41 Seven times seven timetable... 49... 35:44 right, so you got seven times seven... 35:48 you got 49 or 490 days... 35:51 70 weeks... 35:52 now, a day in prophecy is a year 35:57 so, he says, there's seventy weeks in this vision 36:01 "To anoint the Most Holy. 36:03 Know therefore and understand, 36:05 from the going forth of the command... " 36:07 here's the starting point... 36:08 "To restore and build Jerusalem... " 36:10 after they went home from the Babylonian captivity, 36:13 king of Persia gave a command 36:15 that they can restore and build Jerusalem... 36:17 from that date "Until the Messiah the Prince, 36:19 there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks... " 36:22 so, that's telling us 7 and 62 is 69... 36:26 "The street will be built again, 36:28 and the wall in troublous times. " 36:30 That's what happened in the book of Nehemiah... 36:32 they rebuilt the wall in troublous times. 36:34 "And after the sixty two weeks; 36:36 Messiah will be cut off, 36:38 but not for Himself... " 36:40 Messiah was cut off for us. 36:42 "And the people of the prince that shall come... " 36:44 that's the persecuting power, 36:46 "Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. " 36:48 It was foretold that the city and the sanctuary 36:50 would be destroyed. 36:51 This is so clear because when this prophecy came, 36:54 the old temple had been destroyed 36:55 and it wasn't even rebuilt. 36:57 So, Daniel is saying, it's going to be rebuilt 36:58 and destroyed again. 37:01 "And the end shall be with a flood, 37:02 and the end of the war desolations are determined. " 37:05 The abomination of desolation... 37:06 "and He... " going back to the subject 37:09 of the Messiah... 37:11 "He'll confirm the covenant with many for one week; 37:13 but in the middle of the week 37:15 He'll bring an end to sacrifice and offering. 37:17 And on the wing of abominations 37:19 shall one be who makes desolate, 37:21 even until the consummation, which is determined, 37:24 is poured on the desolate. " 37:26 That finishes out chapter 9. 37:27 All right, back to our questions and we'll expound 37:30 as we go here. 37:31 What was the starting point given 37:34 for the 2,300-days and 70-week time prophecies? 37:38 Both prophecies... one starting point. 37:40 One's given in chapter 8... 37:42 one prophecy is given in chapter 9... 37:45 but only starting point is in chapter 9. 37:47 It tells us, "Therefore, understand 37:51 that from the going forth of the command 37:53 to restore and build Jerusalem 37:55 unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, 37:58 and threescore and two weeks. " 38:00 Now, that means... it says, "To anoint the Most Holy... 38:04 the Messiah the Prince. " 38:06 When was Jesus anointed? 38:08 At His baptism 38:11 but we'll get to that in just a second. 38:13 The decree of Artaxerxes... the starting point... 38:16 was given in 457 B.C. 38:18 and, you know, the Lord is good, 38:20 He actually gives us the decree 38:21 it's in the Bible in Ezra chapter 7 verse 7. 38:24 The very decree is reproduced 38:26 so we know what the starting point is 38:28 and it's a very clearly established date in history, 38:32 we have a lot of records in cuneiform 38:34 and some of the Mesopotamian history 38:36 that tell us when this decree went forth... 38:38 also, the Hebrew history. 38:40 Now, in prophecy, when it talks about a day 38:44 it represents a year. 38:46 You can see here in Ezekiel 4:6, 38:49 "I have appointed thee each day for a year. " 38:51 If you look at Numbers 14:34, 38:54 "each day for a year. " 38:56 Some of you remember when in Luke chapter 13 38:59 when the religious leaders came and they warned Jesus 39:05 King Herod has killed John the Baptist... 39:07 Jesus responded... He said, "Go tell that fox 39:10 I teach... do cures... perform miracles... 39:13 cast out devils today, tomorrow 39:17 and the third day I'll be perfected. " 39:19 Well, this was like six months into Jesus' ministry. 39:22 He doesn't preach three more days... 39:24 he preaches three more years. 39:26 So, even Jesus used the day for the year principle. 39:29 So, using that... 39:31 if each prophetic day really equals a year... 39:34 and you start at 457, 39:37 let's see what happens here. 39:39 The angel said... Question 8... 39:40 If you were to count 69 weeks from 457 B.C., 39:44 you would come to the Messiah the Prince. 39:47 Did this happen? 39:48 Now, all this was fulfilled... 39:50 all this was done, that it might be fulfilled 39:53 which was spoken of by the Lord 39:55 by the prophet, saying, 39:57 Behold, a virgin shall conceive and be with child, 40:00 and bring forth a son, 40:01 and His name will be called Emmanuel, 40:04 which being interpreted is, God with us. 40:07 Jesus came right on time 40:09 and it said that... it would anoint the Most Holy. 40:13 So, keep in mind, 40:15 you've got 490 years in this 70-Week prophecy 40:19 but it breaks it up. 40:20 So, first we're going to look at 483 years of it 40:24 and that reaches unto 27 A.D. 40:29 if you start at 457 B.C. 40:32 When Jesus began preaching, you know what He said? 40:35 "the time is fulfilled. " 40:37 What's He talking about? 40:39 He's pointing back to this prophecy that talks about 40:42 his being anointed with the Holy Spirit. 40:44 So, if you look at 483... 483 years from 457 B.C., 40:51 that reaches to 27 A.D. 40:55 Now, in the gospel of Luke chapter 3, 41:00 this is one of the most firmly established dates in history 41:02 because there Dr. Luke is very kind... 41:06 he tells us, "You've got Tiberius Caesar, 41:09 you've got Pontius Pilate, 41:11 you've got Herod Philip and Herod Agrippa... 41:14 we know that there's only one time in history 41:18 when all these kings overlap 41:20 and so, here it is in 27 A.D. 41:22 Jesus comes to John the Baptist at the Jordan... 41:25 He's baptized 41:27 and the Holy Spirit comes down on Him 41:29 and He begins His ministry to anoint the Most Holy. 41:32 You know, Jesus never did a miracle 41:34 up until He was baptized. 41:36 It happened right on time 41:38 and, you know, the Jews should have been able to 41:40 pin point pretty close what His birth would be 41:43 because they knew that He couldn't begin serving 41:46 as a Priest until He was 30... 41:48 you just count back 30 years from A.D. 27... 41:51 Jesus was born about 4 B.C. 41:53 so, they could have been... even used to calculate that. 41:57 All right, let's keep going, 41:58 it says, in the middle of that last week, 42:00 He will confirm the covenant. 42:01 So, if you go three and a half years after 27 A.D., 42:06 what happens? 42:07 What was to take place next in the prophecy? 42:10 After threescore and two weeks... 42:12 so, you've got first the seven weeks... 42:15 that's when they're building the wall and the street 42:17 in troublous times. 42:19 It's at 49-years during Ezra... Nehemiah... 42:21 they're trying to rebuild the city... the temple... 42:23 and it said, "After that period of time, 42:27 Messiah will be cut off but not for himself. " 42:29 So, you've got a lot of cutting off happening here, 42:33 it tells us that 70 weeks are cut off from my people. 42:36 Here the Messiah is cut off in the middle of this last 7 years, 42:40 Jesus teaches for three and a half years 42:44 and then He dies on the Cross... 42:46 it says, "He will make the sacrifice cease... " 42:48 He will confirm the covenant with many for one week. 42:51 Now, with all due respect, I've got some friends out there 42:54 and they think, "Oh, the one confirming the covenant... 42:57 that's the Antichrist. " 42:59 Really? What covenant does the Bible say 43:01 the Antichrist makes with anybody? 43:03 There's no record... 43:04 the subject of this prophecy is the Messiah coming. 43:07 It's not talking about the Antichrist 43:09 confirming a covenant. 43:10 Jesus came to confirm the covenant 43:12 the He made with His people 43:14 that He would be the one, the Messiah, 43:15 to save them from their sins. 43:17 It says in the midst of the week, 43:18 Jesus teaches exactly three and a half years... 43:21 that's half of seven. 43:22 He dies on the cross and what happens? 43:25 He makes the sacrifice cease. 43:27 The veil in the temple rips from top to bottom. 43:30 Not only was the veil ripped, 43:32 showing that we no longer use that temple, 43:34 but the High Priest tore his garments... 43:36 which they were never supposed to do... 43:38 meaning that we now have a new priesthood. 43:40 We are a royal priesthood, a holy nation 43:44 because the veil... 2nd Corinthians 3:14, 43:47 the veil is taken away in Christ. 43:50 When Jesus died on the Cross, 43:52 do we need to sacrifice lambs anymore? 43:54 No... 43:56 so, He caused the sacrifice to cease 44:00 and it's interesting that when the temple was destroyed, 44:03 the Jews have not had a sacrificial system 44:05 from that time to the present day. 44:07 That was because of Jesus... not the Romans. 44:10 So, it says that exactly three and a half years later, 44:15 He dies on the cross in 31 A.D. 44:17 but we got three and a half more years 44:19 before something significant and Biblical happens. 44:22 It says, He confirms the covenant in person... 44:25 well, how does He confirm the covenant again 44:28 now that He's gone to heaven? 44:29 To whom did Jesus tell His disciples to first preach? 44:33 It says, "Go not in the way of the Gentiles... " 44:37 Wait a second, I thought Jesus wanted them to go everywhere. 44:39 Not at first... 44:41 when He was on earth, He even told this... 44:44 this Phoenician woman, 44:46 He said, "I'm not sent but to the lost sheep 44:47 of the house of Israel. 44:49 He told the woman at the well, "Salvation is of the Jews... " 44:52 She wanted to argue with Him, 44:54 "Do we sacrifice in Jerusalem or Mount Gerizm?" 44:56 He said, "Salvation is of the Jews... 44:58 I am sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel... " 45:00 Jesus ministry was to confirm the covenant 45:03 with the children of Abraham for one week. 45:06 Three and a half years in person 45:08 and then Jesus said to the apostles, 45:11 "As the Father sent me, so send I you. " 45:13 Three and a half years, 45:15 He specifically had them preaching to the Jews. 45:17 "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles... 45:20 go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. " 45:23 The first audience for the apostles was Jews. 45:27 On the Day of Pentecost, there were devout Jews gathered 45:30 and the Holy Spirit was poured out... 45:32 2,000 Jews were baptized, 45:33 few days later, 5,000 Jews... 45:36 I said 2,000... was it 2,000? 45:38 2,000 yeah... and then 5,000... 45:40 a few days later were baptized. 45:42 Their first ministry for the first three and a half years 45:44 after Christ... was only to the Jewish nations. 45:47 Notice now, 45:50 how does Jesus continue to confirm the covenant? 45:52 Read in Hebrews 2 verse 3, 45:55 "How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, 45:59 which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord... " 46:02 began to be confirmed by the Lord... 46:05 "but was later confirmed... " 46:07 what's that word? 46:09 "confirmed to us by those who heard Him. " 46:13 He confirms the covenant with the Jewish nation 46:15 three and a half years in person 46:17 then He says, "Now I'm sending you... 46:19 don't go to the lost Gentiles here, 46:21 go first to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. " 46:23 So, what happens... 46:24 and after they do that for three and a half years? 46:26 A lot... believe... 46:27 there's also a lot of persecution. 46:29 What warning did Jesus give His chosen people? 46:32 The kingdom of God will be taken from you 46:36 and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits. 46:39 If they did not embrace the truth, 46:42 a terrible judgment was going to come. 46:44 I probably in the interest of full disclosure 46:46 should let everyone know that I'm Jewish... 46:48 and my mother was Jewish 46:50 and I say that that makes you Jewish and I... 46:51 I kind of embrace that 46:52 and so, I'm saying these things with a 100% buy-in 46:58 to what I'm telling you. 46:59 He says, "The kingdom of God will be taken from you 47:03 and given to a nation bringing forth... " 47:05 What does He want? 47:06 Fruits... He went to a fig tree with no fruits, 47:08 what did He do? 47:10 He cursed it and it withered 47:11 and what's going to happen if we don't bring forth fruit? 47:15 Read in John 15... 47:18 "If we don't abide in the vine, 47:20 cut off... burn... " 47:22 we've got to bring forth fruit... 47:23 the fruits of the Spirit. 47:25 If it bears fruit... 47:27 remember the parable of Luke 13, 47:28 if it bears fruit... 47:30 this man's got a fig tree in his vineyard... 47:31 he says, "Don't cut it down, 47:33 he digs around it and he cultivates it, 47:34 he does everything he can, 47:35 He says, "If it bears fruit... well, 47:37 if not you shall do... " what? 47:39 "Cut it down. " 47:40 So who is the other "nation" spoken of by Jesus 47:44 which would become His chosen people? 47:47 Now, you got to listen very carefully. 47:49 "If you... " now, this is the Scripture... 47:51 did I write this or did Paul write this... Galatians? 47:55 This is the Bible, Friends, 47:57 Galatians 3:29, 47:59 "If you be Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, 48:02 and heirs according to the promise. " 48:03 Again, Romans... this is Paul... 2:28 and 29, 48:07 written by a Jew... 48:09 "He is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; 48:11 but he is a Jew, which is one inwardly. " 48:14 Now, does this mean 48:16 that the Jewish nation has been forsaken as a people? 48:19 Not as a people... no... 48:21 as a matter of fact, Paul says that Gentiles 48:23 are grafted into the stock of Israel 48:27 and we partake of the fruit and the fatness of all the promises 48:30 that God gave Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 48:32 We... New Testament Christians are saved 48:34 by the promises God made to the house of Israel. 48:37 What is the Old Covenant? 48:39 "I will make... " 48:40 what's the New Covenant, rather? 48:42 "I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel. " 48:45 So, every Gentile really has to embrace the covenant 48:48 God made with the Jews. 48:50 So, now what happened 48:53 three and a half years after Christ died? 48:55 It's in your Bible, 48:56 Stephen... one of those deacons 48:59 who was filled with the Holy Spirit... 49:01 he was preaching and converting many 49:05 and some of the religious leaders became very threatened 49:08 and they brought him into the same court 49:10 where Jesus was tried... 49:12 he tries to defend himself and they plug their ears... 49:17 what does it mean if judges plug their ears? 49:19 That's not good... 49:21 they plugged their ears... they grind their teeth... 49:24 they take him out of the city and they stone him 49:27 three and a half years after Jesus was taken out of Jerusalem 49:32 through a Kangaroo Court... 49:35 and falsely condemned, 49:37 the Bible says, they took off Christ's clothes... 49:40 they gambled... 49:41 before Stephen is executed, 49:42 they take their clothes 49:44 and they lay them at the feet of Saul. 49:45 Jesus dies on the cross, He says, "Father, forgive them, 49:49 they don't know what they do. " 49:51 Three and a half years later, Stephen says, 49:52 "Father, lay not this sin to their charge. " 49:54 It's an echo of everything that Jesus did, 49:58 they now took it out on His apostles. 50:00 Jesus said, "If they hate me, they're going to hate you... " 50:02 and so, a great persecution arose, 50:05 guess who gets converted right after this experience? 50:07 Saul... he gets converted, he becomes Paul. 50:11 One of the greatest... he writes about half the New Testament, 50:15 one of the greatest converts... a Jew... who accepts Jesus 50:18 and where does the gospel go? 50:20 It goes to the Gentiles and then you go to chapter 10, 50:23 Peter then... he takes the gospel to the home of Cornelius. 50:27 God tells Peter, "Do not call unclean what I've cleansed... " 50:30 speaking of the Jewish nation, God hasten on here. 50:32 Question 13... 50:34 you thought I was kidding when I said I was going to talk fast. 50:37 I was serious. 50:39 According to the angel who spoke with Daniel, 50:42 what would happen at the end of the 2,300 years? 50:45 Now, we're going to Daniel chapter 8, 50:47 that longest of the time prophecies in the Bible. 50:49 "And he said unto me, 50:51 'Unto two thousand three hundred days; 50:53 then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. '" 50:56 All right, let me talk to you for just a minute 50:59 about what the sanctuary is. 51:01 They had three temples in the Old Testament: 51:04 they had the tabernacle... 51:06 they had the temple of Solomon... 51:08 the temple of Ezra... Nehemiah... 51:09 also was the same temple that was there when Jesus was there 51:13 that was later destroyed by the Romans. 51:15 many are wondering... 51:16 when it talks about the temple now, 51:18 will the Jewish temple be rebuilt? 51:20 You got to turn in your Bibles 51:22 to 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2, 51:24 he's talking about the days of the end... 51:27 and you go to verse one, "Now brethren, 51:30 concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ... " 51:33 Friends, it's not far off... 51:34 "and are gathering to Him... " 51:36 being caught up to meet Him. 51:37 "we ask that you not be soon shaken in mind or troubled, 51:41 either by spirit or word or letter from us, 51:43 as though the day of Christ had come. 51:46 Let no one deceive you by any means; 51:48 that Day will not come 51:50 unless there come a falling away first... " 51:52 falling away... where? 51:53 Not in the world... it's already fallen... 51:55 falling away in the church. 51:57 "The truth would be cast to the ground... " 51:59 in a big way... even among professed believers 52:02 and it tell us... 52:04 then it says... 52:06 "that man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition... " 52:11 this is the beast power... 52:12 "who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God 52:16 or worship, so that he sits as God 52:18 in the temple of God, 52:19 showing himself that he is God. " 52:21 Okay, people read that and say, 52:23 "Well, the Jewish temple is got to be built... 52:25 the Antichrist is going to sit... " 52:26 and I agree this is the Antichrist, 52:28 he's going to sit in the temple of God 52:29 showing himself that he is God... 52:31 we got to rebuild the temple. " 52:32 Unless you understand what the temple is, 52:35 Jesus said, "Destroy this temple made with hands, 52:38 I will make one without hands. " 52:40 Paul said, "What? don't you know 52:42 your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. " 52:44 He tells us in Ephesians that you are spiritual stones, 52:48 and Peter says, "We are being built up... 52:50 a spiritual house under the Lord... " 52:52 and so, is there still a temple on earth? 52:54 yes, it's the church 52:56 and the Antichrist power is going to claim to sit 53:00 with authority over the church 53:02 claiming prerogatives that belong to God. 53:04 You don't want to miss Saturday morning 53:06 and Saturday night's presentations. 53:08 We're going to be talking about who that beast power is 53:11 but everybody in the Christian world 53:14 is waiting for them to rebuild the temple. 53:16 I've been to Israel several times and, 53:19 you know, I can't imagine a scenario 53:22 where Islam is going to allow the Jews 53:25 to bulldoze their third holiest site 53:28 and erect a Jewish temple on that spot. 53:30 I don't think it's talking about the Antichrist sitting 53:34 in a physical Jewish temple, 53:36 Jews do not sacrifice lambs anymore. 53:38 I think it's talking about the Antichrist sitting 53:40 over the church of God... 53:42 showing himself that he is God. 53:43 See, we've also got a temple in heaven. 53:46 Christ is our High Priest in that heavenly temple 53:49 where He intercedes for us. 53:51 It says, "Then the sanctuary will be cleansed. " 53:54 Now, let's go to the next last time prophecy. 53:57 So, Jesus... you read in Hebrews... 53:59 it says, "We have a High Priest 54:00 that's ascended into heaven and He intercedes for us. " 54:04 The temple on earth... the Bible tells us 54:06 is a miniature picture of a very real temple 54:09 that you have in heaven. 54:10 All right, back to our time prophecy... 54:13 this is the one in Daniel 8 about the 2,300 days or years, 54:17 we start 457... that reaches all the way to 1844 54:21 and you might be thinking, "What happened there?" 54:24 Well, here are some big turning events in history. 54:28 Back in the, oh, 1830s or so, 54:33 a number of Christians around the world... 54:35 most prominent being a Baptist Minister named William Miller 54:38 studied the prophecies of Daniel... 54:40 discovered these time periods that 54:43 the prophecies are pointing to something significant happening 54:46 around 1844... 54:48 and they called it the Great Advent Movement... 54:50 not to be confused with Seventh-day Adventists 54:53 because they didn't exist until 1863. 54:56 This is the 1830s and '40s... early 1840s 54:59 and it was sweeping the world. 55:02 There were Catholic priests that were teaching the prophecies 55:05 of Daniel... 55:06 and the Jewish Christian who was traveling... Joseph Wolff... 55:09 and others around 55:10 and there was a great revival of interest... 55:12 they said, "Something is going to happen 55:13 because it says the sanctuary will be cleansed. " 55:16 Two very significant things happened. 55:19 You see, in the earthly sanctuary 55:22 on an annual basis, once a year 55:25 the High Priest would enter into the holy of holies 55:28 on the Day of Atonement 55:30 and make atonement for the people 55:31 and the people will be judged 55:34 and they went through a service where they were symbolically 55:37 separated from their sins. 55:39 It was cleansed from the sins 55:41 that had been spiritually stored there through the years. 55:43 Well, Jesus all through history has been serving 55:46 as our High Priest in like the daily capacity 55:49 but before His second coming, He entered the final phase. 55:54 you know there are seven ages of the church in Revelation. 55:58 Revelation... you get the seven churches... 56:00 chapters 2 and 3... 56:01 the last age of the church is called the Church of Laodicea. 56:05 The word Laodicea means, judging of the people. 56:09 In 1844, Christ entered the last phase in His work 56:13 as our High Priest in the judgment. 56:15 See, when Christ comes, He's giving out rewards, right? 56:19 "Behold, I come, my reward is with Me. " 56:21 For Him to give out rewards when He comes, 56:24 there must be some investigation before He comes. 56:27 It's not enough to say, "Lord... Lord... " 56:29 He's going to go through the books... 56:31 the Bible tells us that the books are opened. 56:34 All right, let me see here, 56:35 and so you've got 490 years 56:37 and during that 490 years, it reaches... 56:41 1810 years go by and this is... 56:43 the age of judgment begins in 1844 56:46 but not only is Jesus completing His work 56:50 as our High Priest in heaven, 56:51 what did the angels say? 56:52 "2300 years... the sanctuary shall be cleansed" 56:54 not just cleansed from the sins that had been stored, 56:57 and Jesus is not done with that work or He'd be here 57:00 but it's a cleansing also from the sins 57:03 that had infiltrated the church on earth. 57:07 The truth was cast to the ground during the Dark Ages. 57:11 The church began to teach that you... 57:14 you burn forever and ever in hell if you're lost... 57:16 everlasting burning... 57:17 they taught that you die and go right to heaven and hell 57:20 before a judgment or a resurrection. 57:22 They're saying you could pay for forgiveness of sins... 57:25 that you can pray to idols... 57:26 even though the Bible forbade that 57:28 and that you would confess your sins to a priest... 57:31 all these... that baptism is by sprinkling 57:34 instead of by immersion. 57:36 You've got all of these strange unbiblical teachings 57:39 came into the truth 57:40 and the sanctuary was defiled. 57:42 We've got more coming on that 57:45 but God began a movement in 1844 57:48 where He started to cleanse the sanctuary in heaven 57:51 and the sanctuary on earth namely His people. 57:54 Now, in 1844... it was a very... I just laugh right now, 57:58 because I realize... someone's trying to keep up with me 58:00 translating all this in Spanish... 58:02 dear Carlos... 58:04 he probably is able to do it though. 58:06 You know, the first electronic message ever given... 1844... 58:11 Samuel Morse... he sent the message, 58:13 "What hath God wrought. " 58:15 Something else happened in 1844... 58:17 it tells us that Charles Darwin formed his theory for Evolution 58:25 during his voyage on the Beagle. 58:28 Karl Marx developed his communist manifesto. 58:32 The birth of evolution... 58:34 the birth of Atheism happened then. 58:36 It was a... the Edict of Toleration was passed 58:39 allowing Jews to resettle in the Holy Land. 58:42 The oldest version of the Bible, the Codex Sinaiticus 58:45 was discovered... reaffirming the truth of God's Word. 58:49 Railroads began to explode around the world. 58:52 The industrial revolution all happened... 58:55 it was all during this time period 58:57 and several great religious movements 58:59 also happened during the same time. 59:01 One true and some false... 59:04 when Jesus did not come in 1844 59:08 as many of the Millerites had predicted, 59:10 a lot of Christians got together from all different backgrounds 59:13 and they said, 59:14 "You know, God never intended for the church to be so divided 59:18 let's study the Bible and put away our differences... 59:21 find out what does the Bible teach... " 59:22 and there were Methodists and Baptists and Catholics 59:26 and Congregationalists and Presbyterians and... 59:28 and they said, "What does the Bible teach?" 59:30 and they studied and out of that revival, 59:33 God began to cleanse the Sanctuary... 59:35 a new Movement was born 59:37 and that Movement now of which I'm a part, 59:40 it's called the Seventh-day Adventist Church... 59:42 has spread to over 20 million people around the globe... 59:45 it's a Movement calling people back to the Bible 59:48 and God is cleansing the Sanctuary 59:50 from the counterfeit teachings of the Dark Ages. 59:53 I know you're going to have questions on that, 59:55 I hope you send them in. 59:57 So, in this final phase of judgment, 59:59 where Christ is in heaven as our High Priest, 01:00:01 what will be the standard and who will be the judge? 01:00:06 What will be judged? 01:00:07 The dead are judged out of those things 01:00:10 that are written in the books. Revelation 20 verse 12, 01:00:13 For God will bring every work into judgment, 01:00:17 with every secret thing. 01:00:18 It's all in the books, Friends, 01:00:20 and it says they're judged by the law of liberty 01:00:23 and in James chapter 2, 01:00:24 he mentions two of the Ten Commandments. 01:00:26 Ten Commandments are called the Law of Liberty... 01:00:29 it's not a law of bondage. 01:00:31 Is God my accuser in the judgment? 01:00:34 No... this final phase of judgment... 01:00:37 see, judgment takes place before Jesus comes. 01:00:39 Who is it? Revelation 12:9 and 10, 01:00:42 That old serpent, called the devil, and Satan... 01:00:46 he was cast out into the earth. 01:00:47 He is called the accuser of our brethren... is cast down... 01:00:52 that accused them before our God day and night. 01:00:54 So, as this judgment is taking place in heaven, 01:00:57 Satan is the accuser... just like he was accusing Job 01:01:00 before the Lord 01:01:01 and he was accusing Zechariah the High Priest, 01:01:03 before the Lord... 01:01:05 he accuses us and when we pray, 01:01:08 Jesus points to our prayers and says, 01:01:09 "Their sins are under the blood. " 01:01:11 Will, I have to face the pre-advent judgment alone? 01:01:16 What's the promise? 01:01:18 If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, 01:01:22 Jesus Christ the righteous, amen. 01:01:24 Now, I know this has been a whirlwind study 01:01:27 and I knew we'd run out of time, which we did. 01:01:29 We're going to be taking your Bible questions 01:01:31 in just a moment... but the last question, 01:01:34 If Jesus is your attorney in the judgment, 01:01:36 He promises to win your case. 01:01:38 He's never lost a case. 01:01:40 If you turn your life over to Him today, 01:01:42 He will put your sins under the blood... 01:01:45 we are living in the last phase of the world's history. 01:01:48 We're even going to be talking about America in prophecy 01:01:51 during this Seminar, 01:01:52 so, you don't want to miss this last week 01:01:54 of Presentations, Friend, 01:01:55 but I'd like to pray for you before we close 01:01:57 so you will invite Jesus to be your Defense Attorney. 01:02:01 "Father in heaven, 01:02:03 it's so amazing as we see how accurately 01:02:06 the prophecies in the Bible have been fulfilled. 01:02:08 Regarding Christ's first coming, He came right on time, 01:02:12 and You promised... " 01:05:40 So, he's looking to Jesus to save him from his sins 01:05:43 but he's also saying, He's a King. 01:05:45 Now, a Savior... some people can have a Savior 01:05:48 but they don't follow Jesus as King. 01:05:50 Some want the Lord... they want to say, 01:05:51 "Forgive my sins... " 01:05:53 but they really don't want Him to rule their lives 01:05:56 and so, accepting Him as Savior 01:05:58 means, we accept Him as our sacrifice for our sins... 01:06:00 our substitute... 01:06:02 accepting Him as Lord means, 01:06:03 "I'm willing to take orders from Him... He's my King... " 01:06:06 and obey Him. 01:06:08 Ross: If you're looking for a Theological term, 01:06:10 maybe Justification... is accepting Jesus as your Savior 01:06:13 but then you have Sanctification... 01:06:15 that's where you make Him Lord of your life 01:06:17 and you follow Him... allow Him to guide. 01:06:19 All right, next question that we have, 01:06:22 "Since the record of sins of God's people 01:06:24 was transferred to the scapegoat 01:06:26 on the Day of Atonement, 01:06:28 does that also make him our sin-bearer? 01:06:30 Doug: You know, I... I didn't have time... 01:06:33 probably don't even have time now to read all of Leviticus 16, 01:06:36 where it talks about the Day of Atonement... 01:06:38 but in that Service, 01:06:40 once a year when the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies... 01:06:43 and he went through a ritual where they would take 01:06:46 two goats and one was offered as a sacrifice 01:06:50 and it was called: The Lord's goat... 01:06:52 so, we know which goat is the one symbolizing the Lord, 01:06:56 it's the one called: The Lord's goat. 01:06:57 The other goat... 01:06:59 sins were then... of the people were transferred to this goat 01:07:02 and it was carried by a fit man out into the wilderness, 01:07:05 it was not sacrificed 01:07:07 and many believe that this is representing the ultimate 01:07:12 separation... see all sin has been caused by Satan 01:07:15 and so, while Jesus died for our sins 01:07:18 and suffered for our sins, 01:07:20 in the end, Satan is going to bear the penalty for his sins 01:07:23 and the sins he instigated by tempting everybody to disobey 01:07:27 and so, when he's cast into the Lake of Fire, 01:07:31 it represents: Forever separation. 01:07:34 I think that goat was called: The Azazel goat. 01:07:36 Ross: Hmmm... hmmm... Scapegoat. 01:07:38 Doug: And even in many of the occultic religions, 01:07:40 they associate that goat with the devil... 01:07:42 that goat with the devil, I should say, 01:07:44 so, the goat that shed its blood is a type of the Lord... 01:07:48 but the scapegoat is the one that is... 01:07:53 rumor has it that some guy would take it off in the wilderness 01:07:57 it says a "fit man" someone dependable... 01:07:59 because if that goat wandered back... 01:08:01 goats will follow you... 01:08:02 if that goat wandered back... it was a very bad omen... 01:08:06 all their sins had come back on the nation 01:08:07 so, he'd take it up in some ravine 01:08:10 and kick it off a cliff, I think, 01:08:12 I don't know... that's not in the Bible, 01:08:14 that's what I've heard though. 01:08:15 Ross: Okay, we have another question, it says: 01:08:17 Some say the judgment took place at the cross... 01:08:19 others say that it takes place at death. 01:08:21 Which is correct? 01:08:23 Doug: Well, the... the judgment of God for sin 01:08:29 was placed upon Jesus in a general sense 01:08:32 when He died on the Cross 01:08:33 but then the Bible tells us... Paul wrote... 01:08:36 since Jesus died, he says, 01:08:38 "We'll still all stand before the judgment seat of God. " 01:08:40 So, there is a future judgment 01:08:42 where all of us will bow before God... 01:08:45 the sins of those who are not saved 01:08:48 will rise up before them from the books 01:08:50 and it says, we will all give an account... 01:08:52 Christ even said in Matthew chapter 12, 01:08:55 we will give an account for every idle word that we spoke 01:08:58 and I have to pray often that God will forgive me 01:09:00 because I've got quite a record 01:09:01 and if it wasn't for His mercy, we'd be in big trouble. 01:09:05 Ross: Hmmm... hmmm... 01:09:06 Doug: But that's separate from when Jesus died on the cross, 01:09:08 those sins, of course... 01:09:10 He was dying for the sins of the whole world 01:09:12 in a general sense here 01:09:14 but there is an individual judgment. 01:09:15 Ross: Okay, all right, 01:09:17 we're going to go to some of the questions 01:09:18 that have been sent in 01:09:19 and the first one is: 01:09:21 What sanctuary does Jesus describe... 01:09:23 oh, sorry... what sanctuary does Revelation describe 01:09:26 when it talks about Jesus in the book of Revelation? 01:09:29 Doug: Yeah, we believe this is the sanctuary in heaven 01:09:33 that is often spoken of 01:09:34 where Isaiah had the vision of God on His throne, 01:09:37 and you have, again, Ezekiel... 01:09:40 if we read in... and Pastor Ross, 01:09:43 you know Hebrews better than I do... 01:09:45 where it says that the earthly sanctuary 01:09:48 was patterned after the one in heaven. 01:09:50 So, I remember as a kid, I had matchbox cars 01:09:54 and I was really interested to find out 01:09:55 that every matchbox car that you buy... 01:09:57 that the Mattel... or whoever it is that makes them now, 01:10:00 they actually take a full-size Jaguar or Corvette 01:10:05 or whatever it is and they use lasers 01:10:07 and they scale it down to a 100 to 1 01:10:09 and they are actually scaled to size but very small. 01:10:13 The sanctuary on earth 01:10:15 was to reflect something about the sanctuary in heaven, 01:10:18 not an exact model 01:10:20 but instead of having golden wallpaper up in heaven, 01:10:23 God's probably got real angels... 01:10:25 instead of golden angels on the Ark, 01:10:26 there are real angels by the throne of God... 01:10:28 they're Seraphim Isaiah saw. 01:10:30 So, you found that verse? 01:10:32 Ross: Yeah, Hebrews chapter 8 verse 5 01:10:34 talks about a... talks about Moses... 01:10:36 he was divinely instructed 01:10:37 when he was about to make the tabernacle... 01:10:39 "See that you make all things according to the pattern 01:10:41 shown you in the mount. " 01:10:43 So, it says, the earthly was a shadow of the heavenly. 01:10:46 Doug: It's a pattern after some... the original. 01:10:48 Ross: Right. 01:10:49 Doug: So, yeah, God has the original in heaven... 01:10:51 probably not exactly the same 01:10:52 but it's to help us learn the plan of salvation. 01:10:55 Ross: Okay, we've another question, 01:10:57 this is a good one, 01:10:58 Why did Jesus curse the fig tree that was full of leaves 01:11:02 knowing that was not the season for figs? 01:11:05 Doug: Yeah, good question, it seems so out of character 01:11:08 for Jesus to curse anything, 01:11:09 He spent all His time blessing and healing and giving life 01:11:12 but this was, I think a very important warning 01:11:14 and let's just be thankful He did it to a tree. 01:11:17 That tree, He said, "Behold, the fig tree and all the trees" 01:11:22 that fig tree was a symbol of both the Jewish nation 01:11:27 that had all the pretense of fruit... but no fruit. 01:11:30 Now, Mrs. Batchelor and I in our former house... 01:11:34 our neighbor had a fig tree 01:11:36 and we were lucky enough that it grew over the walls... 01:11:37 over the fence... so we could eat some of the figs, 01:11:39 and something about fig trees 01:11:41 is usually when the leaves are in full bloom, 01:11:44 there is ripe fruit. 01:11:45 So, Jesus at a distance... He saw that fig tree... 01:11:48 outwardly, it looked like, oh, it would have fruit 01:11:51 but He came and there was no fruit. 01:11:52 It had all the outward display. 01:11:54 When Christ came to the Jewish nation, 01:11:56 they had all the religion... 01:11:57 they had the ceremony... 01:11:59 they had the temple... 01:12:00 they had the outward trappings... 01:12:02 but He said, "You don't have the fruits... " 01:12:04 and if we don't have the fruits, there's a judgment that comes. 01:12:07 It's not only true of the Jewish nation... 01:12:10 it's true of every believer 01:12:11 that He wants us to have the fruits of the Spirit 01:12:14 or we'll be under a curse... 01:12:16 that He cursed the fig tree 01:12:17 to really illustrate that important truth. 01:12:20 Ross: It's also interesting to note that fig leaves, 01:12:23 in the Bible, is used in different forms. 01:12:25 Adam and Eve... when they first sinned, 01:12:26 they covered their shame of their nakedness... 01:12:28 it's a symbol of sin with fig leaves. 01:12:30 God said, "It won't work. " Doug: Self-righteousness. 01:12:32 Ross: You need the robes... 01:12:33 you need the... the skins... " 01:12:35 and then, of course, here you have a fig tree 01:12:36 covered with leaves but it's lacking the fruit, 01:12:39 so, you have Israel that's lacking the fruits of... 01:12:41 of the spirit of righteousness. 01:12:43 All right, we have another question, 01:12:44 it says, "When will Jesus stop interceding on our behalf? 01:12:48 Will that be at the very end?" 01:12:52 Doug: There is a period of time just before He comes 01:12:56 where probation closes, 01:12:58 life continues under it for a short span 01:13:02 when you read in Daniel chapter 12 verse 1, 01:13:05 "And at that time Michael will stand up, 01:13:08 the great Prince 01:13:10 which stands for the children of thy people: 01:13:11 and there will be a time of trouble, 01:13:13 such as never has been ever since there was a nation 01:13:16 even unto that same time: 01:13:17 and at that time thy people will be delivered. " 01:13:19 So, when Michael stands up, 01:13:22 it's a symbol that there's no more intercession taking place 01:13:26 and in Revelation, I think there's a place... 01:13:28 it says there's silence in heaven 01:13:29 for the space of about half an hour... 01:13:32 meaning heaven has been vacated 01:13:35 because the angels are coming to 01:13:38 rapture up the believers down here 01:13:40 and so, there's a period of time we're not sure... 01:13:44 less than a year 01:13:45 we've talked about the time when the last plagues fall... 01:13:47 the saved are saved... they're sealed... 01:13:49 the lost are lost... 01:13:50 and where is that... Revelation 22? 01:13:52 Ross: Yes, "He that is holy, let him be holy still, 01:13:54 he that is filthy, let him be filthy still... " 01:13:56 and then Revelation chapter 7 talks about an angel of the seal 01:14:00 and we're going to talk about the seal later on 01:14:02 and He says to the other angels, 01:14:03 "Hold back the winds of strife 01:14:05 till we've sealed the servants of God in their forehead... " 01:14:08 so, the sealing must occur then just before probation closes 01:14:11 and then the seven last plagues. 01:14:12 Doug: There will be a little frightening time 01:14:15 just before Jesus comes where all Hades will break lose. 01:14:20 Ross: That's right. 01:14:21 Doug: We want to make sure that we're sealed. 01:14:23 Ross: All right, the next question that we have is, 01:14:25 "I have a question, I'm not baptized 01:14:27 but I do the will of God. 01:14:28 Will I be able to be in heaven 01:14:30 or do I have to be baptized to be in heaven. " 01:14:33 Doug: Well, you know, we have a lesson coming on that 01:14:37 but we'll also be talking about baptism, Friday night, 01:14:40 I really hope you'll tune in... 01:14:41 anyone with a question on baptism... 01:14:43 we'll talk about that in the context of a verse in Revelation 01:14:46 but, I do want to answer your question 01:14:49 in case we don't meet again. 01:14:51 There will be some people in heaven 01:14:53 that were not baptized, 01:14:54 you got many of the Old Testament patriarchs 01:14:56 and prophets and we don't know that they practiced baptism, 01:14:59 but the last words of Christ are, 01:15:01 "Go therefore teach... baptize... " 01:15:04 Jesus said, "He that believes and is baptized will be saved. " 01:15:08 Why someone would say, "I believe... " 01:15:11 and not want to be baptized would make me question... 01:15:14 it's kind of like a man telling a woman, 01:15:16 "I love you and want to marry you 01:15:17 but I don't want to live with you... " 01:15:19 or... "I don't want to go through the ceremony... " 01:15:21 or, you know, it just... 01:15:22 I always wonder why wouldn't you want to? 01:15:26 So, that I think, points to a deeper problem, 01:15:29 if God commands it 01:15:30 and we deliberately disobey that command... 01:15:32 though someone... if they're in the hospital on their death bed 01:15:34 and they come to Christ and they can't be baptized, 01:15:36 they'll be in heaven 01:15:38 but if a person can be and they're living in disobedience, 01:15:41 that's a real concern. 01:15:43 Ross: That's right... and, of course, 01:15:44 there's a blessing in being baptized. 01:15:46 Doug: Yeah. 01:15:47 Ross: God wants to give us the special anointing of His Spirit 01:15:50 and when Jesus was baptized, there was a voice from heaven, 01:15:52 "This is my beloved Son... " 01:15:53 and, I think, we might not hear a voice from heaven, 01:15:56 when we're baptize, 01:15:57 but we know we're doing those things 01:15:59 that are pleasing to God 01:16:00 and there's a blessing in that. 01:16:02 All right, next question we have, 01:16:03 "Why does the Bible use prophetic days 01:16:06 and so many symbols?" 01:16:08 Doug: Well, just two questions really there, 01:16:12 one reason God used symbols in the apocalyptic prophecies, 01:16:16 a lot of prophecies are very clear 01:16:18 but some of the Old Testament prophets in... in Revelation, 01:16:21 they were all given while God's people 01:16:24 were being occupied by alien powers 01:16:26 and in the prophecies, 01:16:29 they often talk about the fall of those alien powers. 01:16:32 That would have been seen as treason if they had... 01:16:36 if John had plainly written that Rome is going to be destroyed, 01:16:42 they would have seen that as a treacherous threat... 01:16:46 the books would have been destroyed, 01:16:48 so, God put it in symbolic language 01:16:50 that Jews typically understood... 01:16:52 the keys for these are in the Bible. 01:16:54 Ezekiel, Zechariah... I think Haggai has a little bit 01:16:58 Revelation... they are kind of some of these... 01:16:59 Daniel, of course, written in symbols 01:17:03 and then a day for a year... 01:17:04 you know, the Bible says, right in the beginning, 01:17:08 "A day with the Lord is like a thousand years... " 01:17:11 well, that's actually 2nd Peter chapter 3 01:17:14 but God told Adam... "In the day you eat thereof, 01:17:16 you will surely die. " 01:17:18 Well, he lived a 1,000 years or 900... 01:17:19 and so, God tries to give us the eternal perspective 01:17:24 that for Him... a day is nothing... 01:17:27 it's like a year... a day for us is a year for God... 01:17:29 no... a year for us is like a day for Him 01:17:31 and so, I think He just helps us 01:17:33 try to keep the eternal perspective. 01:17:35 Ross: Okay, another question's coming... 01:17:37 "When did Jesus turn water into wine 01:17:40 and what is the prophetic significance?" 01:17:42 Doug: Yeah, that's a good question, 01:17:44 that's John chapter 2... the first miracle of Christ at Cana 01:17:48 and He was at a wedding 01:17:49 and they ran out of grape juice, 01:17:53 keep in mind the word... the word "wine" 01:17:55 is often interchangeable 01:17:57 with the word "grape juice" in the Bible, 01:17:58 the juice of the grape wasn't always fermented. 01:18:01 I just want to make sure people don't think that 01:18:03 the party started to drag down because they've run out of booze 01:18:07 and Jesus said, "I'm going to help you really spice things up, 01:18:10 I'm going to make a whole bunch... " 01:18:12 I think He made like 120 gallons of it or something 01:18:15 but He really made grape juice 01:18:18 and that is a symbol of the blood of Christ. 01:18:22 The first miracle of Jesus... they ran out of wine... 01:18:27 He gave them pure grape juice at a wedding 01:18:30 and it's like a marriage proposal. 01:18:32 The last thing that happens before Jesus dies... 01:18:35 humans offered Him sour wine, He tasted it... 01:18:38 said, it was finished and died. 01:18:39 It's almost like a blood transfusion... 01:18:41 He took our sour... our sins... 01:18:44 He gave us His pure grape juice, 01:18:46 they said, "You've saved... " at the wedding... 01:18:48 when he turned the water to wine, 01:18:49 it was really pure grape juice. 01:18:51 They said, "Where did you get this, it's not even the harvest, 01:18:52 you saved the best for last. " 01:18:54 Some people in America, they think, 01:18:56 "Oh best... that's the good stuff... that's hard liquor. " 01:18:58 It didn't mean that for them, 01:19:00 they can get fermented... all year long... 01:19:01 you could not get fresh grape juice except at the harvest. 01:19:04 It's usually concentrated and re-hydrated... 01:19:08 it never tasted as good 01:19:09 and He gives us His pure grape juice... 01:19:12 it's His blood for our sins 01:19:14 but He took our sour wine... 01:19:16 He took our sin at the cross, 01:19:18 so, it's like a transfusion so to speak. 01:19:20 Ross: Yeah, that's a great point, 01:19:21 and then, of course, marriage in the Bible 01:19:23 sometimes symbolizes Christ's union with His church... 01:19:27 the church is described as the bride... 01:19:29 the marriage supper of the Lamb takes place 01:19:31 because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, 01:19:33 so, a number of interesting symbols you can... 01:19:35 you can go from that. 01:19:36 All right, here it is Pastor Doug, 01:19:38 "Is smoking Cannabis a sin?" 01:19:40 Doug: Laughing... 01:19:44 Ross: You knew it was coming. 01:19:45 Doug: No, I didn't know it was coming... 01:19:47 we don't preview these live questions, Friends. 01:19:51 Well, Friends, let me just say that 01:19:53 first of all, I don't think... 01:19:55 if there is a beneficial medicine in Cannabis 01:19:58 and I'm not a Pharmacist 01:20:01 and I'm not going to weigh in on that. 01:20:04 There... you know, the Bible does tell us 01:20:06 that there are certain medicines that come from various herbs 01:20:10 that may have some beneficial value. 01:20:12 I think often those things are abused... 01:20:14 do you know you can put tobacco on an ant bite 01:20:17 and... or a bee sting and it really helps. 01:20:19 I mean there's good things that some of these things do, 01:20:22 do you want to keep ants away from your house? 01:20:24 You put coffee grounds around your house, 01:20:27 they won't cross it 01:20:28 and so, there are some wonderful things you can do 01:20:30 with these things and that are abused. 01:20:33 Most of the people I know that are smoking Cannabis... 01:20:37 smoking is not the best way to use the medicinal value 01:20:40 of something 01:20:42 because there's damage that's done, 01:20:44 so, you know, a lot of people I know... 01:20:46 they are getting medical Marijuana... 01:20:48 Friends, yes, I inhaled... I used to grow pot... 01:20:52 before I was a Christian, I... I smoked it with my mother 01:20:54 when I was 13... so I know all about it, 01:20:56 I gave it up before it was even cool to start 01:20:59 and so, I knew all about it and... but... 01:21:02 it just made you stupid. 01:21:04 I'm sorry, when you have to stare at your tennis shoes 01:21:07 for ten minutes... to try to figure out how to tie them, 01:21:10 it just... it's not helping to get to heaven. 01:21:13 Now, if there's a medicinal value 01:21:15 and a doctor prescribes it 01:21:16 and, you know, that's a different issue 01:21:18 but a lot of people are getting medical Marijuana Licenses 01:21:23 and it's really recreational and so... 01:21:26 Ross: So, maybe we can put that in the same category then 01:21:28 as just smoking tobacco. 01:21:30 Doug: Yeah. 01:21:31 Ross: And, of course, you don't want to pollute the body. 01:21:33 Doug: The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. 01:21:34 Ross: That's right, we want to keep it clean. 01:21:36 Doug: And it's defiling, the Bible says... 01:21:37 that we should not defile our temples. 01:21:39 Ross: Hmmm... hmmm... 01:21:40 okay, here's an interesting question, 01:21:42 "If God appoints kings, 01:21:43 does that apply to modern-day Presidents?" 01:21:46 Doug: Well, the Lord tells us... 01:21:50 you might have to help me find the verse, Pastor Ross, 01:21:53 where in Daniel God says, "The Lord takes kings down... " 01:21:57 it might be Daniel chapter 2, He takes kings down 01:21:59 and He raises kings up... 01:22:00 and He will set over an empire even the basest of men. 01:22:04 You know, Nebuchadnezzar thought that 01:22:06 everybody was so lucky to have him, 01:22:07 he said, "Is not this great Babylon that I built?" 01:22:10 God said, "I can blink my eyes 01:22:11 and turn you into a raving animal... " 01:22:13 which is what happened 01:22:14 and so, you know, sometimes the Lord will set up 01:22:19 great leaders if the... 01:22:21 the Bible talks about good leadership... 01:22:23 God can bless a nation with that and it's... 01:22:25 a good leader can be a real blessing... 01:22:27 the wrong leader can be a real curse 01:22:29 and it can also even be a judgment, 01:22:30 so, God can allow these things to happen in both cases. 01:22:36 Ross: Yes, the story you were referring to there 01:22:38 is Daniel chapter 2 01:22:40 then we also find that when Nebuchadnezzar went mad 01:22:42 and he... he came back to his senses. 01:22:45 Doug: Daniel chapter 4. Ross: Yeah. 01:22:47 Ross: Okay, next question that we have, 01:22:50 "What does it mean to anoint the Most Holy?" 01:22:52 and I think you touched on that a little bit 01:22:54 in your Presentation. 01:22:55 Doug: You know, I'm glad they asked again 01:22:57 because the word... when you say "Christ" 01:22:59 if someone christens a ship, 01:23:02 they often take a champagne bottle and... 01:23:04 and whack it over the bow and they... 01:23:06 they call it "Christening. " 01:23:07 When a baby's christened, they sprinkle water on it. 01:23:10 The word "Christos" means anoint 01:23:12 and so, Christ is called: Jesus Christ 01:23:14 I used to think that was His last name 01:23:17 like Miller, you know, or something and... 01:23:19 and it's really "Jesus" was His name 01:23:22 "Christ" was His office... who He was... 01:23:24 He's the Messiah... 01:23:26 Messiah is the Hebrew word for anointed 01:23:29 so, they're both the same word. 01:23:32 When God chose a king or a priest 01:23:35 like when David was anointed by Samuel, 01:23:36 they put oil on him... 01:23:38 it's a symbol of... it means "Spirit filled" 01:23:39 when the priests were often anointed... 01:23:42 sacrifice might be anointed. 01:23:44 Mary poured some oil before Jesus died 01:23:46 on His feet and on His head 01:23:48 and so He was anointed in a sense at His... 01:23:53 just before His death 01:23:54 and He was anointed at the beginning of His ministry 01:23:56 with the Holy Spirit. 01:23:57 So, He was anointed as our Savior... 01:24:01 our teacher and our sacrifice 01:24:03 so, Christ is the anointed 01:24:05 and He was anointed though in A.D. 27 at His baptism, 01:24:08 He began His ministry, 01:24:09 no record of Christ performing a miracle before that. 01:24:12 Ross: Okay, "Do you have to be on your knees 01:24:15 when praying to God to be accepted by Him. " 01:24:18 Doug: No, you know, God... 01:24:22 posture does say something about prayer 01:24:23 and typically, People, if you're healthy and you're able to, 01:24:26 it's a good... 01:24:27 if you're going to come to Christ 01:24:28 and kneel and accept Jesus, 01:24:30 it represents submission and humbling of yourself. 01:24:33 You know, if a person has got a health problem 01:24:35 or knee problem, they can't do that 01:24:37 or they might accept Christ and they're... 01:24:38 Peter was drowning and he prayed while he was swimming, 01:24:41 you can't kneel at all times, 01:24:43 I've had people come to Christ, 01:24:44 they said, "I was driving my car and I couldn't pull over 01:24:47 and I wept and I drove down the road 01:24:49 and prayed with you on the radio... " 01:24:51 and... so... you know, God wouldn't say, 01:24:53 "You've got to pull over and kneel... " 01:24:55 but it's appropriate I think for those that are healthy 01:24:59 at some point in our worship to kneel in the morning 01:25:03 before this Program, I go upstairs 01:25:04 and I kneel down and I pray. 01:25:06 In the morning, I always kneel and pray 01:25:08 but in our church, we kneel at some point, 01:25:11 we stand... 01:25:12 the Bible says, "Solomon knelt and he stood when he prayed... " 01:25:14 so, you can pray... 01:25:16 Nehemiah prayed while he was pouring grape juice 01:25:18 for the king. 01:25:21 Ross: Okay, here's a good question, 01:25:22 it says, "If Jesus said that not one stone shall be left 01:25:26 upon another, why is the Wailing Wall still built? 01:25:29 Doug: Good... good question and Pastor Ross and I 01:25:32 and Mrs. Batchelor... Mrs. Ross... 01:25:34 we were all together in Israel a couple of years ago 01:25:36 and we got up close and personal with that wall 01:25:39 and I'll tell you, there are some massive stones. 01:25:42 There's two parts of the wall that's talking about... 01:25:45 you've got the foundation walls 01:25:46 that supported a platform 01:25:48 and so, there's this wall outside of Jerusalem 01:25:50 that goes up and it supported a platform... 01:25:53 the temple was built on that platform. 01:25:54 Then there was a wall on top of the platform 01:25:57 the temple was within its confines. 01:25:59 Not one stone was left upon another on that wall. 01:26:02 They were all thrown down, you can see the rubble... 01:26:06 they'll even show you... 01:26:07 you walk by and see these massive stones, 01:26:09 they haven't even moved them from the days of the Romans. 01:26:11 Some of them are still sitting where they threw them... 01:26:13 70 A.D... 1930 years ago... 01:26:17 so, when you see the Wailing Wall, 01:26:21 you're often seeing... 01:26:22 some that had been repaired later 01:26:25 by some of the Ottoman Leaders 01:26:28 but you're seeing a piece of the wall 01:26:31 that was part of a foundation wall. 01:26:33 Ross: Kind of retaining wall. 01:26:34 Doug: Yeah, for the temple. 01:26:36 Ross: So, all the walls that actually built the temple itself 01:26:38 they were knocked down 01:26:39 but there were the retaining walls that have been built 01:26:42 and that even probably pre-dates 01:26:44 till after the Babylonian captivity... maybe even before, 01:26:47 some of those retaining walls date back... 01:26:49 Doug: Goes back to Solomon, yeah, 01:26:51 but even when we were there, 01:26:52 we didn't get to go into the Mosque of Omar 01:26:56 because it was... 01:26:57 we were there during Ramadan and Passover... 01:27:00 there's a bunch of holidays all at once 01:27:01 but years ago when I was there, 01:27:04 you could go up on the platform... 01:27:06 you could then see, "Oh, this is where the temple was" 01:27:09 the wailing wall is actually below that. 01:27:10 Ross: Hmmm... hmmm... hmmm... hmmm. 01:27:12 Doug: I think we're out of time. Ross: All right, yes. 01:27:14 Doug: Can we tell them about the next meetings? 01:27:15 Ross: Absolutely, we don't have a meeting tomorrow evening, 01:27:17 that's Thursday night 01:27:18 but we will have another live program... 01:27:21 very important program on Friday evening 01:27:23 and that's 7 p. m. Pacific time. 01:27:25 Again, it's not too late to tell your friends. 01:27:27 If you've missed any of the previous Programs, 01:27:29 take a look at the Revelation Now Website 01:27:32 and you can view the Archive 01:27:33 and you can see all of the other Programs. 01:27:35 Doug: Yes, please do... 01:27:36 tune in for Friday night's Program 01:27:39 is going to be a life and death issue 01:27:42 that I think people are going to be blessed by 01:27:44 and then, we will have a Saturday morning Program, 01:27:46 of course, you've learned the Sabbath truth, 01:27:47 we call it: Sabbath Morning. 01:27:49 That will be 11 o'clock California time. 01:27:51 We're going to be talking about the Beast of Revelation 01:27:55 and then, that evening, the Mark of the Beast 01:27:58 and so, we got a double header, 01:28:00 make sure and tell your friends to tune in 01:28:02 and you will be blessed 01:28:03 and you want to see the materials as well. 01:28:06 Ross: Absolutely, so we look forward to seeing you again 01:28:08 on Friday evening 01:28:09 and again... pass the word, 01:28:11 look forward to seeing you then. |
