That 01:52 would go along with this message and we thought of the 01:54 few. But then this one came to mind to me, one of the best 01:58 songs that have ever been written in terms of sacrificing 02:03 living for crushed in making the decision to truly follow 02:05 him and surrender your life to him. So whatever it takes, 02:08 Lord, whatever it takes, that's what I'll be willing to do it. 02:12 [MUSIC] 02:18 >> There is some moist co 02:23 from get room 02:29 with us to use, draw close to maybe 02:37 [MUSIC] 02:39 >> leave this world. 02:44 >> There are 2 kinds to can mind a time to play this. 02:53 [MUSIC] 02:57 [MUSIC] 03:01 >> And Lou, the toe. 03:06 >> To draw close to. 03:12 >> That's be when you. 03:16 >> We should, too. 03:22 >> And one me. 03:25 >> And he has to be more. 03:29 >> I team. 03:33 >> That's one of them. 03:35 >> I'll be you. We pray that as we enter into another study that you 08:11 would bless as you have and those the same continue to move 08:16 magnanimously in our lives. Transform our characters got 08:20 and help us. Laura does. We are brought to the Valley a 08:22 decision 08:24 to make the right decision 08:26 and to go with their soever. You our Lord. 08:28 We asked this in Jesus name. Amen. 08:33 Before I dive into the book that I'm going to be focusing 08:36 on this evening, the book of Joel. So if you have your by 08:40 was you can go ahead and open up to Joel. That's where the 08:42 list to be spending the majority of our time. 08:44 >> I want to give you a quick recap of the historicity of the 08:48 nation of Israel and everything that they really dealt with and 08:51 went through and I will be able to go through everything 08:53 obviously. But to give you just a a synopsis, a snippet of the 08:57 nation of Israel, what they were going through, 08:59 you see you might remember, remember the name of Abraham 09:01 father, Abraham Scott, father Abraham because he was the 09:04 father of a huge nation and Aybar. How had a you know, 09:08 he him and his watch there. They had a problem. They she 09:10 was barren. She could have a child. God gave them a promise 09:14 that I will give you a seat in his name should be called Isaac 09:17 and Your Descendants will be like the stars of the sky, 09:21 like the sands of the sea. Going to bless you abundantly. 09:25 And it didn't look like a promise is going to happen. 09:27 But in time God came through on his promise to says they meant 09:31 got always comes through on his promise. 09:33 My family's to sing a song years ago. It we serving on Tom 09:36 God. Yes, we do in that 09:38 and got always came through on his promises as he did with 09:41 Abraham people do for us today. 09:43 But what happened with Abraham is Abraham eventually has a son 09:46 named Isaac 09:48 Isaac ends up having 2 sons, one of the names, 09:53 Esau and Jacob, I got it backward. Rice on Jacob, 09:55 you've got some say, Jacob and Esau. 09:58 Well, what happened was that Jacob ends up having the 10:00 birthright. He ends up having this. The the sun's come forth 10:04 out of him that became known as the 12 tribes of what 10:08 Israel, right? You're right. You might remember the first 10:10 time we see the word Israel actually come up in the Bible 10:13 is in Genesis Chapter. 32, this is where Jacob passes Rach 10:17 wrestling match with God. And as he's wrestling with God, 10:21 he ends up, you know, getting a name change, take place. 10:24 Sometimes if you're you and I will wrestle with God, even in 10:26 those tough times, Jesus will bless. You can use an ENT, 10:31 God says are just Jacobs said they got rather I want to let 10:34 you go into you. Bless me. Said your name shall no longer 10:36 be called Jacob, which meant the Seaver. Your name will be 10:39 called what 10:41 Israel. 10:42 And from that moment on word, the Israelites became a very 10:46 magnificent nation. And what would you want to do? Wonderful 10:49 things, but also give us all kinds of whiplash 10:54 and the 39 books of the Old Testament. 10:57 I mean, I'm talking about, 10:59 oh, come on. Now. 11:01 You read. I mean, you read throughout the 39 books of the 11:03 Old Testament and what you see is just like the children of 11:06 visuals like a high school relationship, 11:09 have mercy on a team member high school. 11:12 All I'm not the test. That high school I despise high school. 11:16 I couldn't wait to gradually and get out of high school 11:19 because everybody in my school was with the new girl and all 11:23 the girls with a new guy every other week coming on talking 11:26 about 11:28 it would all be about dealing to Savannah. Right deal is the 11:31 captain of the football team in Savannah to capture the 11:33 cheerleading squad and everybody's talking about doing 11:36 it. Savannah and all the girls want to be like Savannah and 11:38 all the guys want to be like that 11:42 and high school. What one of the things that can stand about 11:44 it was again, everybody's with someone else every other week 11:46 and it wasn't long before dealing in Savannah. The most 11:49 popular to kids in school would be busted all and he would hear 11:53 all the girls, you know, walking around and and and and 11:56 complete, you know, pandemonium and chaos over Savannah. 12:00 Oh, my goodness. 12:03 I believe the Dell and we do that. You Savannah. 12:09 >> Do wind up with a girl from another school. Another 12:12 cheerleader across the way. 12:15 All the chaos would take a loose in school and then it 12:18 would be doing this event has bucked up. And that's the big 12:20 drama of the age and only 3 weeks later. Don't miss it back 12:25 together again. 12:28 >> You guys remember what it was light 12:31 and this was this was just on going and you know, out me, 12:34 my brother, praise God for the way my parents raised us. 12:37 They taught us the greatest gift you can ever give your 12:40 future wife is your virginity? 12:49 Not not. All of us could say that we had that upbringing, 12:51 but I praise the Lord for me, my brother having upbringing. 12:55 We had godly parents love as they said, the greatest gift. 12:58 You can never give your shoes. Your wife, your virginity to 13:00 say that you've only been with her. 13:02 The greatest gift you can never give up. 13:05 I thought man yet powerful. You know what? That's the 13:07 greatest gift my bride could ever give me too. You know that 13:10 she's only been with me and we you stay together like, like 13:14 peas and carrots. 13:18 I mean, this is just this is what I want. I want that faith 13:21 in this rough. How many of you would have been okay moving 13:24 forward if your husband or your wife what he said, look, 13:27 you know, 13:28 we get married and all 13:30 but I'm still going to have my side cheat. 13:37 Not all you've been like, no. Let's put the brakes on here 13:40 for a moment. 13:42 I'm not interested in sharing you with someone else. 13:47 And as you get throughout the 39 books of the Old Testament, 13:49 literally the children of Israel were like a high school 13:51 relationship. They can make up their mind if they want to 13:54 serve God in knots or got to love daughter got love, got to 13:56 disobey God or troll begun. 13:59 And it's just like what is going on with the nation of 14:02 Israel. 14:03 Why bring you the story of Joseph yet, right? Jacob passes 14:06 12 sons. Joseph is is that the one who has the gift and the 14:11 spirit of prophecy 14:13 and Joseph is is ends up betrayed by his brothers. 14:16 He ends up in Egypt. And what transpires was that just to 14:18 basically he he gets over in Egypt, right? Hands up a slave 14:22 in Egypt 14:23 and he had this dream that his brothers would calm and they 14:26 would have to come to him. Right. And that dream was 14:28 ultimately fulfilled and that the great famine hit a land 14:31 member. The famine of of 7 fatted calf are the dream. 14:36 Rather the fair will have 7 fatted calf alibi. The 7 14:38 scrawny cap of the 7 factors of corn fell about 7 scrawny ears 14:41 of corn. And what transpired was that that man of 7 years, 14:45 plenty would be followed. What would comment followed by 14:47 7 years of a famine. 14:49 And what happened in that story was that 14:52 Joseph now was able to collect and develop enough food for 14:55 everyone in the known world to have food. During that time. 14:59 It was a beautiful scene. Salvation was brought to the 15:02 world. Listen, guys, salvation was brought to all of the known 15:06 world by a man by the name of Joseph who had a connection of 15:10 a righteousness with Jesus Christ. 15:14 Do you think God want to save the world the last days, 15:16 the same weight 15:17 he's want to use godly men and women to raise us up to our 15:20 connection with Jesus. He might show us the plan of salvation 15:23 in the last 8. 15:26 And as we as we as we see what happened, the story of Joseph, 15:28 the Israelites, they they they end up coming, right. His 15:31 brothers from another mother and upcoming 15:34 and they show up and what happens, they they get there to 15:37 in Egypt and they do say set up shop after they'd be reunited 15:41 with Joseph. They have this beautiful ceremony of 15:43 forgiveness and mercy. And just, you know, 15:46 Khan flight hearts for what they did to their brother 15:48 broken and contrite heart and they they have reconciliation 15:51 with Joseph and then justices. Look, guys, look 15:55 all the land here before us. 15:57 You guys can say here with me now. Listen, there is a great 16:00 difference between what God desires for you not 16:04 and what God will allow for you. And I 16:07 you think about a lot about picking up on land down here, 16:10 the smell of cooking 16:12 that there is a huge difference between what God desires for 16:15 you. And I will got allows for you and I 16:18 God did not want what what was about to transpire to take 16:21 place. But Joseph, he wants to be with his family. He's got 16:24 this leadership here. But was that Joseph slant 16:28 was that the promise land 16:30 do this right here to help you out? 16:32 [MUSIC] 16:34 Oh, it wasn't the promised land. Let's face it. They left 16:37 the promise land to calm to Egypt to get food because right 16:43 the land the land but been deflated in each of the plan of 16:47 salvation was there with Joseph. But what happened was 16:49 that 16:50 instead of them getting their food and surviving the famine 16:53 with the family was done by know how long it was going to 16:55 last 7 years. 16:57 Go back home. 16:58 Come on. Somebody said it 17:00 go back whole. 17:02 But they got over in Egypt and they started looking around and 17:05 Egypt and they were like, oh. 17:08 >> Look at this. 17:11 They got Costco. 17:19 You've got Costco. 17:25 They got Sam's Club. 17:28 We've got to travel on our donkeys 17:31 and are camels too far to get to where we need to go. 17:35 That's right. 17:36 But we can to set up shop right here. 17:39 >> What does that lead to for the children of Israel? 17:42 Slavery 17:44 was not God's plan for them to be in Egypt 17:47 but got allowed it 17:49 and got prophesied, of course, in the time of Abraham that 17:51 this would happen because he knows what decision you and I 17:53 are going to make before we make them. 17:56 But God does not use his omnipotence to interfere with 17:59 mine and your decision 18:02 still on your decision be love. 18:05 What decision will thou make us? 18:09 So as we look at the historicity of of of the 18:11 children of Israel, S now they have been brought in to 18:14 this captivity. God base of a memo to Moses and Moses, 18:18 a powerful man of God, the company to tell Pharaoh, 18:21 let God's people go. 18:26 He says, I don't know your dog. 18:28 He's like you're going to get to know. 18:31 And guess what, through this rebellious decision that 18:35 Pharaoh made not only did Pharaoh and the Egyptians get 18:39 to know the God and that and that and that the Israelites 18:42 got to be reintroduced to the God of Abraham, Isaac and 18:45 Jacob. But the entire known world heard about what happened 18:51 in Egypt. 18:52 Isn't that right? You love it. The entire known world heard 18:55 what happened in Egypt 18:56 and what transpired was that basically all all of the Lynn 19:00 and heard the wonders of Egypt and they were trembling in 19:03 their boots 19:05 because the God of the Israelites is a mighty and a 19:08 powerful God Hussein's. 19:13 But we have to choose to salvage. 19:17 We have to choose salvation 19:20 to be safe. 19:22 God desires. He's not willing that any should perish. But 19:25 that comment 19:26 all should come to repentance, my friends. 19:29 But oftentimes what happens is that we don't make the right 19:32 choice. 19:34 We seek for happiness in all the wrong places. When Thomas 19:37 Jefferson penned the words on the Declaration of 19:39 Independence, EPA to life liberty and the what 19:43 the pursuit of happiness. When he when he gets those 19:45 words of the Declaration of independence, he was implying 19:48 that we are all all pursuing happiness. It is not true. 19:52 All I want to happiness. We all want our happy meters to 19:55 be filled up with the problem is we look at all the wrong 19:57 places to be happy. 20:00 God is saying come on my people, wake up 20:03 and see that you can only quench your thirst by the 20:06 fountain of a lot. 20:09 It's a good message. 20:12 But what transpires is that? 20:14 God does this wonderful work in Egypt? He brings the children 20:17 of Israel out of bondage and he brings them to the base of 20:20 Mount Sinai and over your bibles with me steep your spot 20:23 there in Joel. We're about to come right back to Joel. 20:25 But let's go now to Exodus Chapter 19. 20:28 Exodus Chapter 19, open your bibles there. 20:31 We're going to begin reading in verse 3 20:37 Exodus Chapter 19, beginning in verse 3. This is where God 20:40 makes the covenant with the Nation of Israel. Now God made 20:44 a covenant with Abraham, but this is the first time God is 20:48 making a corporate covenant with the entire nation of 20:51 Israel. 20:52 We gather Saints. 20:54 Alright, notice first, 3 Exodus, 19 for 3 and Moses went 20:57 up in the got and the Lord called them to come out of the 21:00 mountain saying that shot. They'll say to the house of 21:02 Jacob until the children of Israel. You have seen what I 21:05 did into the Egyptians. How I bear you want to those winds 21:08 have brought you want to myself. He's reminding them of 21:10 his path of their past victories and he says now 21:13 they're for 21:14 if ye will obey my voice indeed and keep mike holden it. 21:18 Then you should be a peculiar treasure onto me. Above all, 21:21 people for all the earth is my notice them being got to kill 21:24 your people was based upon a decision. 21:28 What are we talking about? The love of the valley of what 21:31 the decision 21:32 them being got? The colored people is based upon the 21:34 decision was based upon a decision to obey God or to 21:37 disobey got if you will obey my voice indeed and keep my 21:41 covenant, then 21:42 you shall be a peculiar treasure onto me up because all 21:45 of the earth is my verse. 6 is the key verse. We're going 21:47 to be paying attention to 21:49 what was the purpose for the nation of Israel, 21:52 then you shall be on to me. A kingdom of what 21:56 pretty a kingdom of what 21:59 second off thought the priesthood was only for the 22:01 tribe of Levi. 22:06 He didn't say a tribe of priest. 22:10 God's initial original plan for the children of Israel was for 22:13 the nation of Israel to be a white light to the other 22:17 nations of the world that I heard about the glories of God 22:20 that took place in Egypt. 22:22 Can we say a man 22:24 beautiful usual became a priest, a holy nation. These 22:28 are the words with Sasha speaking to the children of 22:30 Israel. And if you go on to read that the children of 22:32 Israel heard the words of God and they said all the Lord has 22:35 spoken, we will do. 22:40 This is the problem, by the way, with you and I we don't 22:42 keep covenants very well. 22:47 How many times have you made a promise to God? Only a day 22:51 later in the braking 22:54 because the sea salvation 22:57 is not about the promise that you and I make to got. 23:01 It's about the promise that God makes to us. 23:05 And we just need to do what sister Jill, just preached 23:07 about a minute. 23:09 And when you lay our head on his chest and trust him, 23:14 God, you will deliver 23:15 God, you will work victory. 23:18 God you will do what is magnanimous and wonderful. 23:21 So beloved 23:25 Israel was supposed to what be a bright light to those other 23:28 nations got had taken down or what transpired. Again, they 23:31 have left their their their Neverland, right. The promised 23:33 land was over here. They left the promised land and they went 23:36 over and Egypt and they were like 23:39 over here in Egypt, right? They got the big screen TV. 23:44 >> They got Wi-Fi. 23:47 They got everything we right here in Agent, Costco and Whole 23:50 Foods in the whole 9 yards. 23:52 >> They set up shop in Egypt while that was taking place and 23:55 they go under hundreds of years of, of, of, of, again, calamity 23:59 and slavery and all of that, right, oppression, 24:02 Satan. Now those are the promise land 24:05 and he's jumping to hash if if he can't wait 24:08 because he knows got going to keep his promise and he's going 24:10 to bring that people back over here to the promised land. 24:14 So what is safe to do? 24:16 I want to go get as much he the nation's as I can. 24:22 And I will bring you right back here 24:25 to the promised land 24:27 because I know God is going to keep this promise and he's 24:29 going to try to save those those Egyptians over there 24:33 and you get your bring them back over here. Let me tell you 24:36 something to love. Here is God's great struggle. Got had 24:38 no problem sitting Israelites free from Egypt. In a sense, 24:42 OK, with me, 24:43 God was able to deliver the Israelites directly out of 24:47 Egypt in one day. 24:50 But it took got 40 years to get Egypt out of them. 25:00 This is God's great problem. He's saying 25:02 there's an internal issue and I got to deal with it. 25:05 And so now 25:07 as they are to go there in the base of Mount Sinai got saying, 25:10 listen, I'm gonna take you back to the promised Land, but I can 25:13 take you back to the promised Land. But you still acting like 25:16 some Egyptians. 25:18 So I have to cleanse. You have to do the work of cleansing. 25:20 Here's my character. What happens in Chapter 20? 25:24 Here's my law. 25:26 This is who I am 25:29 now. Listen, guys. Now, you know me 25:33 and you agreed to keep the covenant 25:36 and as you get over there, remember, 25:39 you're not to let them convert you. 25:42 You are to convert them. 25:46 But what happens instead of Israel converting the hostile 25:50 nations because again, they're supposed to be a kingdom, 25:52 a priest, a holy nation. When they go back to the 25:53 promised land, there's supposed to be showing forth to the 25:57 glory, the character of God in their lot to these other 26:00 nations. 26:02 But what transpires is right, the opposite. 26:05 Instead of them converted the other nations. The other 26:07 nations converted them 26:09 exactly what God said was going to happen. He warned them. 26:11 He said, listen. 26:12 >> Don't don't don't, don't you enter Mary with 26:16 does he even told me to run? He said, don't you cheat on me? 26:20 I praise God. I've never had to say to my wife, don't you cheat 26:23 on me? 26:28 I didn't want his nation to cheat on. You want to people 26:30 that, you know, but no notice. Now let's let's look at what 26:32 happens in the book of Joel. Go with me to Joe Chapter one. 26:36 This is bringing about now the time period. The God ultimately 26:40 prophesied would happen if the children of Israel disobeyed 26:42 him. He opens up a chapter one with a time period of 26:45 devastation. Job begins with a devastating famine. That was 26:49 actuated by Judas disobedience to God, 26:53 not the love of the sun. 26:54 We're living in a time period. A famine. Now 26:59 I'm not going get into my other brothers messages, but we're 27:02 living that. I'm here to famine now. 27:04 Famine of hearing God's word and obeying it. 27:10 Now we know next to nothing about the book of Joel about 27:13 right now. The book Do We know next to nothing about Joel, 27:15 the prophet and in the time of what she wrote? We know very 27:18 little about both of those and there's all kinds of different 27:21 ideas of of of what the time period Joe might have been in. 27:24 But as I studied very, 27:26 very intensely this book from the time I was given the 27:29 invitation to be a part of this pet can't meeting. 27:31 I believe that the time period, Joel, more and more a more 27:35 significant was around the time period right before up to that 27:38 time period when the nation of judo was about to be a captured 27:42 by the nation about along. 27:44 All right. So so go with me to jolt. After one, 27:46 we're going to be in a verse one. 27:48 The word of the Lord came to Joel, the son of a fuel here 27:52 this year old men and give ear all ye inhabitants of the land. 27:56 Has this been in your days or even the days of your father's, 27:59 tell your children of it and let your children tell their 28:02 children and their children another generations, something 28:05 something big happening. Notice what he says in verse 28:08 for that which the Palmer warm have e 28:11 I wish the palm or have left rather half the locust eaten 28:15 and that which the locust have left at the canker-worm beaten 28:18 and that which the canker-worm have left at the Caterpillar 28:21 eaten. 28:22 Listen, guys, this is what's happening is a devastating 28:25 monumental famine has entered the land 28:28 almost like nothing I've ever seen before 28:30 now versus 5, 6, goes on to tell us why this family calm. 28:33 But I want to meet you. Terminator bottles real quick 28:35 to gender on a beach after 28 28:38 Durrani temper. 28, 28:39 what we just reading verses one through 4 is a fulfillment of a 28:43 prophecy that God gave himself and get around the chapter. 28:46 28 28:47 gold needed around 28 28:49 and look at verse 15 with me got prophesied that this exact 28:53 thing would happen in Deuteronomy. 28:55 The Romney 28 burst if team, but it shall come to pass. 28:58 If that will not hearken in to the voice of the Lord, thy God 29:01 to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes, 29:04 which I have commanded the this day that all these curses shall 29:08 come upon the and overtake the now you go read the rest of 29:11 Deuteronomy 28 and it saw its lead. Everything that the 29:14 entire 39 books of the Old Testament encompasses what 29:17 happened to the nation of Israel is full field pretty 29:19 much around. 28. 29:20 It's pretty amazing. Jump diverse. 38 with me now versed. 29:23 38 were injured around 28 reverse. 38. 29:26 Thou shall not carry 29:28 much seed out into the field. He says this is what will 29:32 happen if you disobey got. 29:34 But little in for the locals show what 29:37 consume it. Thou shalt plant vineyards and dress them but 29:41 shall not to drink of the wine or gather the grapes for the 29:45 worm shell. Eat them. 29:47 Palm warm canker-worm. 29:50 You guys seen it 29:51 got prophesied as well in advance 29:54 the worms to eat them. He says 29:56 Verse 40 thou shall have all the trees throughout all the 29:59 coast. But thou shall not annoy myself with the oil for that 30:03 oil shell casts his fruit 30:06 that Shelby get sons and daughters, but thou shall not 30:08 enjoy them for they shall go into what 30:11 captivity? Isn't this what happened around the time here 30:13 to battle on 30:16 all the trees and fruit of I land shall be, shall the locust 30:20 can soon. 30:22 This is exactly what we see happening in Jonah. Go back to 30:24 Joe One 30:26 and we're going continue onward to notice what takes place. 30:28 Got us talking about a time period offending that's come up 30:31 on the land versus 5, 6, goes on to say away key drunkards 30:35 and we've been how you drinkers of wine. I find interesting to 30:38 Joel's warning of this because of Revelations 17 who is in 30:42 revelation 17 with a great cup in her hand full of a wine 30:46 filthiness of her fornication 30:48 trying to cause the whole world to drink of that won 30:51 to get you tipsy on the water about a lot have mercy. 30:55 The Bible says in Romans 3.23, all have sinned and fallen 30:57 short. The glory of God, isn't that right? 30:59 We all have been a little tipsy on the want to Babylon, if not 31:03 once twice, maybe 3 times in a lot 31:07 for 6 31:09 starve. First rest of us. 5 says because of the new wine 31:12 for does cut off from your mouth. The new one was a symbol 31:15 of the new covenant of which the Children of Israel 31:17 rejected. 31:19 Are you following the beloved 31:20 God wants to write his law and our hearts and our minds. 31:23 That was the purpose of the nation of Israel. He wanted 31:25 them to be a people transformed inwardly first and then at 31:28 work. 31:30 But they did not surrender to God completely. 31:33 Jeremiah, 5 prophesied of that nation that would do exactly 31:38 what we just reading verses 5, 6, 31:41 verse except for a nation has come up on my land strong 31:44 without number whose teeth are that he full of a lion and he 31:48 had to chief teak teeth of a great line. 31:51 Now there's 2 major primary characters in the Bible. 31:54 This references to the Lions. Peter warns of one the devil 31:58 like a roaring. What Lyon walkabout seeking whom he may 32:01 devour, right? Why said be sober? 32:03 Be vigilant 32:05 because you know what, you know to consider the easement 32:07 majoring in Amman or presentations to be 32:10 God's Amy 32:13 got trying to get us over 32:16 who may have been drinking on on Graham also cough medicine. 32:23 The other symbol of a line represents battle on. We see 32:25 this ending a chapter 7, which is not peculiar to our 32:28 ideological framework here as administration's most of us in 32:31 here. Of course, 32:33 Joel, one 32:35 for 7 goes on to say he has laid my fine waste and barked 32:40 my what 32:41 my fig tree. He hath made it clean. Bare cast away. The 32:45 bridges are all made white. So notice he's talking about he 32:48 had to leave. My mind was this is speaking of that enemy, 32:50 that nation that has come up on them. That lion nation that 32:54 have to that the cheek teeth of a great lion. 32:57 This is believed by many theologians to be represented 33:00 by battle on. So this gives us an idea of the time period the 33:04 job's prophesying about 33:06 now the vine represents God's people. Notice he said he had 33:08 laid my fine. What waste the 5 represents. Got people. 33:12 Jeremiah too. 33:13 And first, 21 turn there with your Bibles, Jeremiah chapter 2 33:17 and verse. 21, I'll give you a moment to turn 33:24 notice what God says to his his children 33:27 and Jill, Jeremiah chapter 2 verse. 21, 33:30 he says yet I have planted the a noble lot. 33:34 But what is Joel saying has been laid waste and verse 7. 33:38 My van has been laid waste gotzis notice what he says to 33:42 the children of Israel undermine to 21. Yet I have 33:45 planted the a noble van. Holy right seed and then 33:49 listen, they got home here. God is heartbroken 33:53 over his people. 33:55 How then our town turned into the degenerate plant of a 33:58 strange vine. And to me, 34:06 God is looking at the children, a vigil situation and he's 34:09 saying 34:10 how did you become like this? 34:12 This isn't what I planned it. 34:15 Are you following? 34:16 You might remember the parable of the Sower who planted the 34:19 tears. The enemy plan to the terrace. 34:23 >> Got plans the good seed and got he's got a sitting there 34:25 saying how did you turn into this? 34:28 This isn't how I plan to do. 34:30 >> You've turned the degenerate planted a strange vine. And to 34:33 me, 34:34 how many remember the story of Jesus walking member talked 34:36 about the vine and the victory in this in this. And Joel, 34:39 1, 7, how many member when Jesus came up to the fig tree 34:42 and that story, 34:43 Jesus shows up to that victory. And what are you looking for? 34:47 He's looking for something that isn't it. 34:49 And he comes up to this victory is looking for some things. 34:51 But the problem is he doesn't find him. 34:55 Jesus comes looking for fruit. 35:01 He doesn't find any 35:02 what happened. That victory 35:08 when Jesus showed up. Are you hearing they got 35:11 that moment when Jesus showed up 35:13 Jesus cursed the fig tree 35:15 because it was fruitless 35:18 kind of fruits, are you and I suppose to have in these last 35:20 days 35:23 for the spirit, can someone say n 35:26 but, you know, while we don't have the for the spirit 35:29 because we don't have the spirit, 35:32 it's what's called the fruit 35:36 the spirit. 35:38 You don't have the fruit because we don't have the 35:40 spirit. 35:43 You have the spirit of God. You will. No doubt about it. 35:47 Have the fruit. 35:48 He comes up to a fig tree that's fruitless and Jesus 35:51 curses. The 5th victory in the bottle says within that very 35:53 hour when they passed backed by the fig tree had weather 35:57 completely indict. 36:00 That is what will be our end 36:03 if we do not make the correct decision 36:07 when we enter into the Valley of decision, 36:11 Jesus is coming soon 36:14 and he's going to be looking for some fruit. 36:18 Can somebody CNN 36:20 now, how did this happen to God's people? We talked about 36:22 it, but let's just revisit because it's all throughout the 36:25 Bible. How did this is bearing this happen? God is looking at 36:28 a 6 people in their spiritual ruin everywhere. Got to see 36:32 what's going on. Ledger. Much upper to verse 20. You're 36:35 you are in Jeremiah to earlier. We reversed. 21. Let's reverse 36:38 20 now. 36:39 He says for all time I have broken out, you'll can burst. 36:41 I bans and asset as I will not transgress. You haven't made 36:45 that that promise to got 36:47 got I'm not going to I'm not going to sit anymore. 36:49 When he goes on to say went up on every hot you and under 36:53 every green tree that wonder is playing the harlot, 36:57 you know, he means by every high on evergreen tree because 37:00 there's some people that's not ashamed of their son 37:02 whatsoever. 37:04 Do it right out in the open. Just like 37:06 Absalom did with David twice. 37:12 And then there's some 37:14 they want to pretend that they are Christian 37:17 put on that mask will talk about. 37:20 But in reality what happens? 37:22 Sin let sit. Sinless livestock are a rather simple watched. 37:26 I was being live and practiced and promulgated and their 37:29 private lives 37:31 got a set here. Listen. 37:33 When upon every high heel in evergreen tree dollars wonders, 37:35 playing the left, 37:37 the harlot, he says 37:39 now there's a character in the Bible. I want to just bring our 37:42 minds back to his name with Solomon. 37:45 Go with me to first Kings. Chapter 11. 37:48 First, the chapter 11. 37:50 We're going to begin reading in verse one 37:51 First Kings chapter 11. We're going to get a reading in verse 37:55 one. 37:56 Notice what happens to key Summit. Solomon was other than 38:00 God other than Jesus Christ. According to scripture, he was 38:02 the wisest in the Bible was not true other than Jesus because 38:06 Jesus is really the wisest. 38:09 But Solomon 38:10 notice what it says about him. The first Kings, 11 verse one. 38:13 But King Solomon love many strange women 38:16 together with the daughter of pharaoh, 38:19 women of them bites ammonite even might Sedona ins and 38:23 hittites all the nations concerning which the Lord said 38:26 unto the children of Israel. You shall not going on to them. 38:30 Neither shall they come in unto you for surely they will turn 38:34 away your what 38:35 Hart after their gods. Solomon Clave onto these in love. 38:40 The Bible says 38:42 he clave under these women in love because let's face it. 38:45 Just like the the Sons of God in Genesis Chapter 6. And if 38:49 you remember the flood, right, just after 6, what caused the 38:53 flood? 38:54 Think about this for a moment. And Genesis Chapter 6. What 38:57 caused the flood Hugo region to 6 versus want to assist and the 39:00 sons of God saw the daughters of got 39:04 it is written all when the Dodgers got. Who are they? 39:08 The Dodgers a mint, 39:09 the sons of God. The Bible says an Anna First John chapter are 39:13 John Chapter one verse 12 that you must accept Jesus and the 39:15 by him to be a son of God. Romans, 8 verse to 14 tells us 39:19 that we must walk by the spirit of got to be a son of God. 39:22 So that's not talking about fallen angels. By the way, 39:26 this is the sons of God saw the daughters of men 39:29 if they were fair and they took them wives of all of which they 39:31 chose. 39:33 So what happened was that the lineage of Seth Wright Cassette 39:36 replaced able 39:37 they were looking over at the land of not 39:40 nobody called the land of not. 39:43 That's the kind of people like to not often church. 39:49 I mean, not enough in church. 39:52 Well, so we've got a not in my over here. 39:55 Not in my right here. 40:01 The sons of God looked over at the daughters. Amend best was 40:05 the lineage of Cain dwelling in the land of nod. And what 40:08 transpired was that they saw them to the Suns about saw the 40:12 document that they were fair. They took the wise which they 40:14 chose. Well, what's happening is that the that the lineage of 40:16 Kate Kane left the presence of God in Genesis Chapter 4 and he 40:20 dwelt over the land of not and he said anything to do with 40:22 God. God doesn't want to accept my my, you know, my my fruits 40:26 and vegetables. My works. I'm going live how I want to 40:29 live in a separate myself from God. That's not what God wanted 40:31 for Cain. It's not uncommon for anybody, but that's what Cain's 40:35 decision was. But the sons of got saw the daughters of men. 40:38 >> And they sit. 40:43 >> Because when they saw them, they thought and those women 40:45 don't dress like Arlen, 40:49 they don't look like are women. 40:53 And so they started in or Mary, what happened with Solomon, 40:57 the first 3 notices and he had 700 wives 41:04 and 300 concubines and his wives turned away his what 41:11 this is what got said, what happened? 41:13 His wives turned away start. Now he said he has 700 wives 41:16 and 300. What 41:19 when the world is a concubine? 41:22 Let me tell you 41:23 a concubine is a side change. 41:29 Let me give you the that's the new age term, right? We call a 41:32 psychic in the 1950's. They called it a mistress. 41:37 Awesome use like Oak 41:41 Saatchi. 41:44 You might be familiar with the very popular TV show. Back in 41:47 the 1950's call 41:49 the Andy Griffith Show. 41:53 Does that get don't known about the Andy Griffith Show doing? 41:56 Don't Kid Yourself. I know you go. Watch it ever sat. 42:03 I had to throw that in 42:06 on the Andy Griffith Show. There's a famous character. 42:08 He was the main reasons why. Let's face it, everybody. 42:10 Watch the show. His name is Barney Fife. 42:14 Don Knotts played the character Barney Fife 42:17 and Barney Fife. 42:18 He had Phil Lewis's girl 42:22 and that right, 42:24 Thelma, Lou was his girl. 42:26 She was his honey 42:28 and they were working out trying to get ready for 42:30 marriage, right? 42:32 But then you'd see episode show up. 42:34 Well, Bonnie is not sing in the film loom. 42:37 >> He's singing. Do Wah needed the Donner. 42:47 >> Guys, here's the point. 42:49 The point of use. 42:51 Do you have a one needed in your life? 42:55 Do you have a side shoot? 42:58 Not talking, literally talking spiritual here. 43:01 Do you have something you should be with God, but you got 43:05 you a one need. 43:07 You'll be singing songs to Juanita. 43:12 Jesus is creeping up behind you like Andy Griffith and saying, 43:15 Hey, 43:17 you're supposed to be with family. 43:21 Supposed to be faithful to me. 43:23 You see my friends. 43:24 God sees that. These people are not ready for him 43:28 and he's he's 20 terrified. God wants his people to be 43:30 ready, wants people to be surrendering because got can't 43:34 let this go on much longer. You do realize that, right? 43:37 And that the chopper, 24, 43:39 it says that about the days of Noah that know that that 43:43 and lest those they should have been shortened, 43:46 no flesh would have been say. 43:49 >> Because the weekend it's become so gross and so hostile 43:52 in Lynn. 43:54 >> That they would wipe out every single person that 43:56 doesn't think like them. 43:58 Are you with me? 44:00 This is what's coming up on planet Earth. My friends. 44:01 We need to be very careful 44:04 that we we we keep our focus on God 44:07 now having to turn here for the sake of time. But, 44:09 you know, the Bible says in Jeremiah chapter 3, verse 8, 44:13 Vick, God wrote Israel a certificate or a bill of 44:16 divorce 44:18 to say what 44:20 you go read in Jeremiah chapter 3, verse 8, all read it for 44:23 you. He says and I saw a win win for all. The calls were by 44:27 backsliding, Israel committed adultery. I put her away and 44:30 given her a bill of divorce 44:32 yet her treacherous sister Judah. 44:35 Now who is Joel addressing? 44:39 Are you following her? Treacherous treacherous it. 44:41 You're due to fear of not that went out. Went went and played 44:44 the Harlot. Also 44:46 again, bringing those wanted is in the picture. 44:51 Joel, One 44:53 10 11 goes on to say the field is wasted the land morning. 44:56 The corn is wasted. The new wine is dried up. The oil 45:00 languisheth verse 11 be ashamed. OU has been and how 45:04 you vine-dressers for the week and for the barley because the 45:07 harvest of the field is perished. God is showing his 45:10 people a literal version of what is taking place within 45:15 their very own lives. 45:18 Spiritual, berenice, 45:20 spiritual ruin. 45:23 You know, as I look across the religious scene today, even in 45:26 my own church, I'm not seeing much fruit 45:32 amongst the midst of God's people. 45:35 And I speak that to our shame. 45:38 I speak this message not only to you guys, as if it's all 45:41 you. 45:42 This message is for just as much as the ministers of the 45:45 church as it is for everyone else. 45:48 We're going to talk about the ministers now just a bit. 45:51 Got to sing this this inward situation. Notice first 12, 45:54 the vine is dried up. The fig tree languishes in the 45:56 pomegranate tree. The palm tree also and the apple tree. 45:59 Even all the trees of the field or whether because joy is 46:03 withered away from the sons of men you go read Psalm 16 verse 46:06 11. It says the joy is the presence of God. 46:09 What's happened? How do we get the situation? We have left the 46:12 presence of God 46:16 worship services are as draw as the heels of the bull. 46:26 Why would we worship happily? We don't know. Got 46:35 trees is what he talks about is is languishing in and having a 46:38 fruit. When look 3 verse, not John. The Baptist said the axe 46:42 is also laid into the root of the what 46:44 street he was speaking. People the activated to the root of 46:48 the tree, every tree which bring it forth. Not good. 46:51 Fruit is hewn down and it's casting to the fire. Johnson S 46:54 revelation 7 0st 3 talked about her, not the earth not to see 46:59 nor the trees, 47:01 God's people. 47:03 2, we have sealed the servants of our God way 47:06 in the forehead, not belittle. What's the forehead? A simple 47:08 love 47:10 forehead is a symbol of the mind. Is it not? 47:14 So we make decisions 47:17 to God is dealing with spiritual rue and Jules de. 47:20 He addresses the leadership. Go with me to versus 13 14. 47:23 He's just gird yourselves and lament you priest. 47:26 How EU ministers of the altar calm light all night in 47:29 sackcloth EU ministers. And I got you know, I got to have a 47:31 motive to lie, sackcloth and ashes because he was saying if 47:35 you if you do not turn back to me, that's what you're going to 47:38 come. 47:41 But we made of of the dust of the Earth. 47:44 Santa 5 Fast Co solemn assembly gathered the elders in the 47:47 inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord. Your God 47:50 and Cry unto the Lord. 47:53 Jump down with me, 47:55 Joel to adverse 23. We're going go to Jill Chopper 2, 47:59 we're going to jump diverse. 23 limit. Let me share with you 48:01 what God says he will do if we repent. 48:04 This is what I can't cover. All of Joel. I have mercy. 48:07 None of the speakers up here going to able to cover all of 48:09 the profundity of the minor prophets. 48:13 Not with what time we have, but we're going to give you the 48:16 juiciest parts we can meant 48:19 Joel to verse. 23 is what will happen the result of when we 48:23 repent. Notice he says be glad to new children of Zion rejoice 48:27 in the Lord. Your God for he have given you the former a 48:30 moderately and he will calls to come down for you. The rain, 48:34 the former rain and a lot of rain in the first months. 48:41 I believe why haven't we received this latter rain 48:44 pouring that. We've been waiting on for so long. You 48:46 probably already know. 48:48 But we haven't done anything about it. 48:50 So we need to hear it again. 48:54 Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 3. She's there for the showers 48:57 have been withholden and there have been no latter rain 49:02 and that has a horse forehead and refuses to be ashamed. 49:07 Why has there not been a lottery? 49:10 Why have the showers been withholden and there has been 49:12 no a lot of rain. Jeremiah, 3, 3, says because the showers 49:16 have been withholden because you have a horse forehead 49:21 and refuses to be a shame. He says this to us 49:24 spirit to Israel. In the last days 49:28 we have gone w******. We have playing the harlot with God 49:32 got heart is broken. Anything. My people please 49:36 come back to me, 49:38 the author and the finish of your faith. 49:40 You see you and I think we can write happy endings. But the 49:42 reality is God is the author. Any the finish of our faith. 49:46 We have had the pan and our hands to all come on. Somebody. 49:51 We've had that in our hands too long trying to write our own 49:53 happy endings and got a saying if you just give me the author 49:56 and finisher of your faith, the pen 49:59 only I can write Happy Endings. 50:06 God promises us a USTA promises us rather to use this mightily 50:10 notice jolt to 28. This is probably the one scripture we 50:12 all know very well. And Joel 50:14 and it shall come to pass after that. A promise spirit upon all 50:17 flesh, your sons and your daughters shall prophesied. 50:20 Your old men shall dream dreams and your young men shall see. 50:23 What 50:25 how many of you for can't wait for that day? 50:27 Has that happened yet? 50:31 If you're here, 50:33 it's only happened. As as Joel said, it's only happened. 50:36 Moderately. 50:39 Are you following? 50:41 Because this is using plural terminology. He says I will 50:44 promise spirit on your sons or 50:48 on your daughter's plural. 50:51 The old men shall dream dreams. Young men shall see visions. 50:54 So I'm scared. I'm even even sad to say it. But I think the 50:58 only dream many of us have been having in these last days is 51:01 the American dream. 51:04 We're looking at a time for us what we have dreams and visions 51:07 and only dreams we've been having is the American dream. 51:08 You want to call the American dream because you got to be 51:11 asleep to believe. 51:19 And we're supposed to be having visions in the last days. 51:21 But I think I'm afraid to say. But the only vision many of us 51:23 have been having is television. 51:28 You see we have been too caught up in the net of flicks, 51:40 too, caught up in the net 51:42 flicks that we could see. All of the prophecy has been 51:45 fulfilled around us. The time is short. 51:49 We've caught up in the Netflix, beloved. You know what we need 51:52 to do. Matthew Chapter 4 verse 20, you go read it when you get 51:55 such an opponent for you. 51:57 It says when Jesus called the disciples, they left their nets 52:01 and followed him. 52:10 We've got some met stuff or sake. 52:16 Decisions are the hardest thing to make, especially when it is 52:19 a choice between where you should be 52:21 and where you want to be. 52:25 A decision develops in action 52:27 and action developed a habit. A habit developed a character 52:31 and a character develops your destiny. 52:35 God has brought us to devalue decision. My friends, 52:38 what decision would you make 52:41 as we move on word 52:44 the coming of God, Joe, 3.14, to where we got the very 52:48 profound statements for the term, 52:51 the Valley of decision. 52:53 Joel, 3.14, multitude multitudes in the Valley of 52:55 decision for the day of the Lord is near 52:58 and the Valley of the decision. 53:01 What decision you make 53:06 as I near these these in the times I realize I'm not where I 53:09 need to be. 53:10 I mean, you can say that, 53:12 but I look back and I say praise God, Noah, 53:17 and I'm reminded 53:18 and I tell people when it let people down auto people, 53:20 listen, 53:21 I'm still in the up. 53:24 God is still in the kitchen 53:26 cooking on me. 53:28 And when God is the cooking on me, 53:31 he's going to open that up. 53:34 And he's going to say, well, Don, 53:45 you say that man, how in the World Dakota, how in the world 53:47 I'm not going to get to that point. 53:49 I've seen much sand I've done falling away from God. Well, 53:52 welcome to the club up. 53:55 Remind of a powerful story. True story took place in the 53:58 18th century in England, a man by the name of Robert Robinson, 54:03 true 54:04 heckler. He was in his days as a young man, 54:07 Robin Roberts and he didn't have a relationship with God. 54:09 He was without a father. He was a troubled child and he 54:13 found it much great joy to go to all the local pastors in the 54:17 land and the band that dived Angeles in the tent meetings, 54:19 the kidney that they would half. 54:21 >> And he would heckle and he would shout and yell 54:24 profanities at the preacher it. So you're just a hypocrite like 54:27 everyone else. 54:28 >> And he would just chase away. He had was quick Witted, 54:31 very smart, very intelligent man. He knew more of a cavalier 54:34 words. All the preachers in England put together. He was so 54:36 intelligent and he would chase all the with preachers at 54:39 Atlanta. One day he showed up to the wrong can't me. 54:43 George Whitfield was there in England preaching 54:47 the 1700's. 54:49 George Whitfield was there. 54:51 And soon as you saw the young men walk in, they told him 54:53 about Robert Robinson. He said young man 54:56 sit down 54:57 and give me a moment to tell you about, geez. 55:00 And if you like what you hear, he said, well, then that's 55:03 fine. You just move on and do what you want to do. 55:06 Robert ever been challenge? Lee said Dow George with a good 55:09 approach. 5 minutes past him in the past 15 minutes. But were 55:11 you know what all our past? And George Whipple called the 55:14 decision. He said Brood of Vipers. His want you to flee 55:17 the route to calm. That's turned the heart of Robert 55:20 Robinson. Years later handed up becoming a Christian, giving 55:23 his life fully Gaw. 55:25 He became a changed man. 55:27 He started ministering on behalf of everyone else that 55:30 that that he heard the Gospel of Christ. He started to preach 55:33 the Gospel to the world. Well, Robert Robinson 55:37 years later, he ended up backsliding making a bad 55:39 decision is live. 55:41 What transpired in that story was 55:43 Robert Robinson went years, what 40 years in the season 55:47 away from God. 55:49 One day he's on the ice. He's walking on the side road 55:53 of England on the way to the local tavern, which was right 55:55 across from the church. A little lady stops by in her 55:58 wagon. And she says, sir, would you like to come to church with 56:01 me today? 56:02 So you can hitch a ride with me. 56:04 He set off sure he had no intent just going to church. 56:07 He was just going to the local tavern and drink it up. 56:10 He hops on the wagon and a little lady. She begins to 56:12 scene 56:14 the song come thou fount of every blessing 56:18 to my heart to sing digress. 56:21 Streams of Mercy never ceasing call for songs. A lot of praise 56:25 and she began to sing the song. Robin Roberts begin the week. 56:28 He was weeping and she said, Sir, 56:31 do not want my voice. And no, ma'am, it's not that 56:35 she don't like the song is. Oh, it's not that either. 56:37 He said is that I wrote it. 56:42 True story. 56:44 >> I wrote, she goes you, Robert. She looks that are 56:46 hymnal. He says, I sure am. 56:50 >> She says what happened. He says ha fell away from God 56:52 many years ago 56:53 and I never surrendered my life back to God. He said I'm too 56:56 simple to come to got 56:58 2 great of center. 57:01 He said in that song I wrote prone to wonder, Lord, I feel 57:04 are prone to leave the guy alone. 57:05 She said yeah, but the euro. Take your tears. My heart more 57:08 taken. Seal it still before the courts a balk. 57:11 She said God did leave you. You left Gob 57:14 and God created us. Divine appointment for me. A new for 57:17 you to be reminded that you could never be greater of the 57:20 center than Jesus is the same. 57:22 Jesus is coming soon. What do you say? 57:25 I want to be ready. 57:26 Let's make the right decision to come back to you. 57:28 [MUSIC] 57:33 [MUSIC] 57:38 [MUSIC] 57:43 [MUSIC] 57:48 [MUSIC] |
