00:30 >> Hello and welcome back to 3 ABN summer camp meeting.
00:33 Happy Saturday to each one of you
00:37 and happy Saturday to you at home. We've been blessed here

00:43 it here in person, but we're so glad we have to tune into 3

00:54 most importantly, the family of God, this evening clothes.
00:58 In a Friday we have Doctor David Shun bringing us another
01:01 message. It's entitle prepare to meet thy God. You know,
01:06 Pastor David Shinn and I and Joe, we've known each other
01:09 for what's going on the sea here probably close to 30 years
01:15 and we didn't know each other in create a role. We met each
01:20 other in college and he's been a dear friend. One time we took
01:23 a mission trip
01:25 to a country outside the United States and one name which one
01:29 and the transportation that we had was a little bit rough.
01:33 We're in these 15 passenger vans. And we called the one
01:36 puffer. We call the puffer because it overheated all the
01:39 time and we have to stop beside the road. Let it cool down and
01:43 we're in the tropics. And when it would rain,
01:47 we had to hold an umbrella inside of the van
01:51 to keep from getting wet.
01:53 And David and I were in the backseat and this van were all
01:56 crammed together. We're doing a little of choir trip were all
01:59 crammed together in the back seat of this 15 passenger van.
02:03 And it had no vinyl on the seat. It was just the the
02:06 yellow foam, right?
02:09 So when it rained and we're hot and sweaty and we all got out
02:12 of the van, we had these yellow stains all up and down the
02:15 backside of our white shirt. So great memories with Pastor
02:18 David Shinn. But he's a man of the word. He has course been a
02:24 pastor of a number of churches and he just loves people loves
02:29 campus ministry as well. But we're just so blessed to
02:31 have Pastor Davison here with us this evening. But before it
02:34 brings us a message, we have a Pastor Ryan Day bringing us the
02:38 special song. The Old Rugged Cross on the piano is Simeon.
02:42 Thank you very much.

08:18 We thank you that we can rest in that assurance every 7 days.
08:23 And we pray that you would bless us tonight
08:25 with your holy spirit.
08:28 Maybe inspire, mean instruct.
08:31 I mean, Lightner mines and speak to our arms should be as
08:35 he sings
08:36 in the precious name of Jesus Christ.
08:39 [MUSIC]
08:43 I remember it vividly
08:46 going to use
08:49 public restroom
08:51 in a in an undisclosed location and I open the door
08:58 and there he was
09:00 a man.
09:02 But I watched on television for years
09:08 in the flesh.
09:10 Not just a screen
09:12 you ever feel like, you know, somebody
09:14 I'm talking about see them on television over and over again.
09:17 Watch them. And then suddenly it's like they're there.
09:22 But it was the strangest thing
09:24 because even though I felt like I knew him
09:27 problem was,
09:28 you know me
09:29 [MUSIC]
09:32 starstruck
09:35 didn't do anything. I was like
09:38 excuse me and I just went around him.
09:43 But everyone else I said never guess who I meant.
09:47 [MUSIC]
09:51 That was awkward.
09:53 One day
09:55 we're going to see Jesus face to face
09:59 and I would hate
10:02 for it to be awkward.
10:06 It's like high.
10:09 I know you I don't really know you when we talk about
10:16 you don't want that.
10:22 I know you
10:24 and that relationship picks up
10:26 right where it left off.
10:29 Our topic this evening
10:32 is taken from Amos chapter 4 verse 12, prepare to meet thy
10:37 God.
10:39 One day we're going to able to see Jesus face to face
10:43 and it would do us well to prepare a man
10:46 so that when we have that face-to-face encounter,
10:50 it's not awkward or even worse. You call for the mountains and
10:54 rocks to fall on you and hide this from the face of him who
10:57 sits on the throne and from the wrath of the lamb.
11:00 So how do we prepare to meet God? How do we ensure
11:04 that we pick up right where we left off?
11:07 The answer is found in the book of Daniel.
11:12 Believe it or not. How do we know it's found in the book of
11:15 Daniel because we have the greatest book endorsement in
11:17 all of Scripture given by Jesus Christ himself. And if Jesus
11:21 gives you a book indoors, meant better perk up and pay
11:24 attention and take some notes. So here we find in Matthew
11:28 Chapter 20 foreigners, 15 open your bibles there to that great
11:32 end-time chapter in here. Jesus giving the best data
11:36 logical evidence isn't signs of the end.
11:40 And in there he gives a book endorsement.
11:44 He says if you're living in the end of time,
11:46 if you're going to be prepared to meet thy God, there's one
11:50 book.
11:52 >> That you need to read in particular now we need to read
11:54 them all.
11:56 >> But this one, Jesus says we need to especially pay
12:00 attention to
12:02 Matthew Chapter 20 foreigners 15. Therefore, when you see the
12:07 abomination of desolation spoken up by Daniel, the
12:11 Prophet standing in the Holy Place, whoever reads that him
12:18 understand
12:21 Jesus indicates
12:23 that the for those of us that are living in the end of time
12:26 and are we living the end friends?
12:29 We're living the final moments of its history.
12:32 And Jesus says
12:33 if you are privileged to be living in the end of time
12:39 of Danielle,
12:41 better read it.
12:42 But a study it
12:44 5 indications,
12:47 5 things that we can draw out firm Jesus. His book
12:50 endorsement of Daniel
12:53 number one, Daniel is an inspired profit. And by
12:57 implication, the book of Daniel is trustworthy.
13:02 In other words, the book of Daniel, it's not a fairy tale.
13:06 There's higher critical liberal scholars out there that believe
13:09 that the book of Daniel was written sometime later because
13:12 they can not believe in predictive prophecy.
13:16 They say this is impossible.
13:17 But if you believe in Jesus, you can believe that he's a
13:21 prophet, a man.
13:23 In other words, this is not some profit that is erroneous.
13:27 Jesus believed the North Testament. By the way, the New
13:29 Testament wasn't even written.
13:31 Jesus says, read this book. You Can trust it
13:35 because Daniel is a profit.
13:39 Number 2, the book of Daniel should be read and study.
13:45 There's a community of fates out there that believe that
13:47 book of Daniel cannot be study.
13:50 It should not be. It cannot be understood Jesus as we did.
13:55 Number 3, the book of Daniel would be understood.
14:01 It's a book that is sealed until the end of time but it
14:04 will be unsealed. You can read the book of Daniel
14:08 and understand it.
14:10 Number 4, the prophecies within the book of Daniel would be
14:16 fulfilled.
14:18 Number 5,
14:19 the book of Daniel's message is relevant and practical for and
14:25 time living
14:27 want to read a statement from testimonies to ministers Page
14:29 one 14
14:31 when the books of Daniel and revelation are better
14:34 understood believers will have an entirely different religious
14:39 experience.
14:41 They will be given such glimpses of the open gates of
14:44 heaven that heart and mind will be impressed with the character
14:48 and that almost develop in order to realize the blessings
14:52 in us, which is to be the reward of the pure in heart.
14:56 In other words, the book of Daniel is not just about
14:58 prophecy.
14:59 It's about transformation of life to prepare to meet.
15:03 Thy got
15:05 the book of Daniel
15:07 is divided into 2 main John Rous prophecies
15:13 and stories. These are end-time prophecies and the stories that
15:18 are interwoven with in this book
15:21 are characteristics that we are to avoid and emulate. In the
15:26 end of time,
15:27 there are 8 stories, 6 of the stories characteristics that we
15:32 are to seek to emulate.
15:35 2 of the stories are characteristics that we are to
15:38 seek to avoid.
15:41 And this evening,
15:42 we're going to look at 2 stories very quickly and draw
15:46 out lessons for us practical applications that will help us
15:51 to prepare to meet our God.
15:54 So if your Bibles,
15:56 the book of Daniel
15:58 Daniel Chapter one,
16:00 well, you're turning there. Want to give you a little bit
16:02 of background on the book of Daniel.
16:04 The book of Daniel encapsulates the entire 70 year captivity.
16:09 Remember Hezekiah when he was visited by the babylonians
16:13 rather than sharing about God he shared all his well. He
16:17 shared his bank account is 401 K is assets in the stock
16:21 portfolio
16:24 and Isaiah went in to him and said because you did this,
16:31 your children,
16:32 we'll be Unix in the court of the king.
16:37 They will be carried away into captivity and Hezekiah
16:41 individual said, look, as long as it doesn't happen while I'm
16:43 alive, I'm OK
16:46 and so
16:47 has a Chi's. Descendants were taken away into captivity.
16:52 I E Daniel. So Daniel is taken away.
16:57 He is a you, Nic. How do we know that? Because he was
17:02 placed under the custody of the master of Unix.
17:07 You don't hear about Missus, Daniel,
17:11 so you can imagine
17:14 young person teenager,
17:17 16, 17 years of age, maybe
17:20 Im asking, laid
17:23 and taken on 1000 Mile March
17:27 from Jerusalem to Babylon
17:31 and he ends up there
17:33 at the University of Babylon.
17:36 Ideally
17:37 and Nebuchadnezzar begins process up systematic. In
17:43 culture, a church
17:45 brain watch.
17:47 He takes the soft approach, gives them a new name, gives
17:50 them a different diet.
17:52 And Daniel Chapter one
17:54 is a summary of the entire book in a way because it begins with
17:59 the captivity and ends with Cyrus.
18:02 And I believe that the rest of the book of Daniel would not be
18:06 possible if it wasn't for Daniel Chapter one,
18:11 you know the story
18:12 because the cafeteria
18:19 vivid imagination. Big Puffy chef hats. You know, talking
18:24 about
18:25 Michelin star Buffet.
18:29 Every delicacy you can imagine.
18:34 Do you think Daniel want some comfort food?
18:37 You better believe it. 1000 Mile March,
18:40 the mask you laid it
18:43 probably had his parents likely killed right in front of him.
18:49 And if you're anything like human nature, like forget this
18:52 religion stuff
18:53 when in Babylon
18:55 do as the babylonians do this, the least of my worries
18:59 pilot up.
19:02 But he says no,
19:05 he says now.
19:07 And you know the start
19:08 give me a 10 day test
19:11 and you go stands before males are
19:13 and now as our thinking is mine, these you guys are crazy.
19:16 What are you eating?
19:17 He said this is a slam dunk
19:19 and he goes in stands there
19:21 and Daniels face
19:23 looks like those commercials from oil of olay
19:26 [MUSIC]
19:29 hair. Looks like those pan teen commercials. You know, I'm
19:31 talking about light.
19:40 The breath doesn't stink.
19:44 Form
19:45 the elastic step going to pay trucks and profits. Prophets
19:49 and kings.
19:50 They stand out everybody else. Heres lost its shine cracking
19:56 skin foul breath. Nebuchadnezzar
20:00 the he's the guy that's over them. Mels Ares liked.
20:04 Keep on doing what you're doing
20:05 [MUSIC]
20:11 and then
20:15 the clinch
20:18 Dan Chapter one verse 17.
20:20 As for these young men,
20:23 God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and
20:26 wisdom. And Daniel had understanding, you know,
20:30 visions and dreams.
20:32 In other words, if you want to understand the prophecies of
20:36 Daniel,
20:37 you got to practice the temperance it. Dan,
20:41 let me say that again.
20:43 If you want to understand the prophecies of Daniel,
20:47 you got to practice the temperance of Daniel.
20:52 Now there's a theme that emerges here
20:55 and going to doctor John Peckham
20:57 used to be professor of systematic theology at Andrews
21:00 University uses a fancy word called bilateral.
21:06 Now bilateral is in contrast to unit left
21:10 unilaterally is like
21:12 one person makes a decision
21:14 and that's it.
21:17 Now when it comes to theology, a unilateral theology is
21:21 predestination
21:23 you following me. God makes a unilateral decision.
21:27 Your saved or lost your saved or lost and he decides he's
21:31 elect.
21:34 Although I sympathize with Calvin. I kindly disagree
21:36 because I believe in free will and choice. Right?
21:40 But in this one,
21:43 you see evidence of not unilateral
21:46 but bilateral. What's that bilateral
21:49 is is evidenced in the Hebrew nuances when it talks about,
21:55 you know, walking with got
21:57 in other words, you know, Walker's got the implication is
22:00 violent.
22:02 God takes us debt,
22:04 you know, takes a step.
22:06 God takes a step
22:08 and in up takes a step.
22:11 By the way,
22:13 the book of Daniel, you see that the Angel Gabriel comes
22:16 down and says, Daniel, you are highly favorite,
22:20 you know, got plays favorites.
22:25 Don't leave yet.
22:32 There is evidence that got actually has favorites.
22:36 Peter James and John
22:39 Joseph.
22:42 But here's the thing.
22:44 Everyone can be a favorite,
22:48 but not everyone
22:50 chooses to be in that bilateral relationship to be a favorite
22:55 praises name for that.
22:57 Don't you want to be a favorite
22:59 that God looks down from heaven? And since David Shinn
23:02 highly favored, I'm like all and praise God for that.
23:08 We're really interested in you.
23:10 Well, he's interested in everybody,
23:12 but not everyone chooses to be in that bilateral relationship
23:19 here. You see this evidence because God initiate got gives
23:24 council to Daniel, where did you get that from the book of
23:27 Leviticus in regards to diet
23:31 what he should put in his body
23:34 and he chooses in the cafeteria, got initiated by
23:37 giving revelation by giving light and he chooses and that
23:40 Kate, in that cafeteria to exercise his freedom of choice,
23:44 which God had given him. So you can't take any credit
23:47 for that
23:49 by saying I can't put that in my body
23:55 and then God response
23:59 by making him look better than everybody else. Now that's
24:02 cooperation. But I believe those a divine blessing in
24:04 that, too.
24:07 And then it says God gave them knowledge and skill in all
24:13 literature and wisdom. And Daniel had understanding in all
24:16 divisions and Dreams.
24:19 Ivy League
24:22 magna coup plot.
24:26 They come to the end of their testing
24:30 and these guys are like and easy ruse. They eat some weird
24:33 stuff.
24:34 [MUSIC]
24:36 Magna com. Lot Summa come lot. All of these guys,
24:42 the proof's in the pudding.
24:47 So we have this thing that emerges here in Daniel Chapter
24:51 one in preparation for the second coming of Jesus. We have
24:55 this idea and this notion of Temperance and its and Daniel
24:59 Chapter one
25:02 which indicate that I believe that Daniel had gone to that
25:06 cafeteria and said love me up on those pork chops
25:11 and that's quid whatever it is. I don't know.
25:17 That wouldn't be a book of Daniel.
25:20 And that's something
25:23 these are of age is page 101.
25:26 All who would perfect holiness and the fear of God
25:30 must learn the lessons of temperance and self-control.
25:34 This self discipline is essential to that mental
25:37 strength and spiritual insight that will enable us to
25:41 understand and to practice the sacred truths of God's word for
25:45 this reason. Temperance finds it place its place in the work
25:51 of preparation for Christ's second coming
25:55 as you hear that
25:57 now, let me be clear.
26:00 I don't believe in righteousness by
26:02 the innocent.
26:08 It's not like you can go ahead and say I'm the gun that says,
26:11 come on.
26:14 I don't believe in righteousness by vegetarianism
26:18 either.
26:22 But there's something that happens in your Christian
26:24 experience.
26:26 I want them to put on screen
26:28 a bird's eye view. The view of the sanctuary that we showed
26:31 this morning.
26:33 This is the path back to the throne of God. There you have
26:36 it on the screen. You can see that there is this this half
26:42 back to the throne of got
26:45 it used to be that Adam and Eve were in the most holy place in
26:48 Eaton before the fall. But the entire human race was placed
26:52 outside. So got brings us into the courtyard into the Holy
26:55 Place and into the most holy places, a progression that God
26:58 wants to bring us on. This is a kindergarten illustration that
27:01 got brings out.
27:03 He brings in and the first thing that you see is the altar
27:06 berndt's burnt-offering in praise got that's the first
27:09 thing.
27:10 There is grace.
27:12 There's a sure an CE
27:14 you come and you accept Jesus as your savior and Lord in your
27:18 name is written in the Lamb's book of Life. No questions
27:22 asked.
27:24 And if you're died today,
27:27 you're in the kingdom.
27:28 That's grace.
27:30 So is not about how far you get on planet Earth. It's about
27:33 being in the process.
27:35 So you come in accept Jesus as your savior and Lord, you're
27:39 baptize. But back on the screen, you can see the
27:42 progression here into the courtyard.
27:45 You accept Jesus as your savior and Lord you're baptized.
27:49 Then you come into the holy place and you have the lamp
27:51 stand. Yeah. The altar of showbread and the incense.
27:55 This is the other phase of the Christian experience. Now,
27:59 let me ask you a question.
28:01 Is it more important
28:03 to be born
28:05 or to grow after you're born?
28:09 Seems to be a little bit confusion about that.
28:20 When we were in Alaska,
28:23 my wife and I have been married 10 years and we
28:25 we're thinking like a
28:28 we don't want kids because we thought what a world to bring
28:31 kids into.
28:33 We thought about fostering
28:37 and
28:38 I don't know what is about Alaska. But like surprise,
28:40 surprise.
28:41 [MUSIC]
28:45 My wife's like I think I'm pregnant. I said, oh,
28:47 I said when double check this cycle off to Walgreens and I
28:51 get the most expensive
28:53 pregnancy test. I can fight.
28:55 I'm not going get some cheap brand. I'm going to get this
28:58 cost like $25
29:00 and I'm waiting for this thing to go off
29:03 being nice. All. Wow.
29:06 My wife and I were type a personality can be ready for
29:09 this birth
29:12 read every book mosque last breathing, everything.
29:18 And so
29:19 the birth pangs begin.
29:22 I even had an apt
29:24 that show the the frequency of the birth pangs and the the
29:30 contractions as they click, click, analytics graphs on the
29:34 whole thing.
29:39 52 hours later,
29:49 whether in the body or out of the body? I do not know.
29:56 And I'm not even giving birth.
29:58 I'm exhausted. But, you know,
30:04 baby comes price like cut the umbilical cord. I put on the
30:09 ceremony, a diaper market on the calendar.
30:13 And I'm like, oh, just kick back and relax now.
30:21 And the nurses like excuse me, you know that you have to feed
30:24 this baby every 2 hours. And I'm like, yeah, 95 right.
30:29 She's like
30:31 24 hours.
30:34 And then the sinking realization came over me
30:38 being born is one thing.
30:40 Praise God every year you have a birthday.
30:43 But now you've got to keep this baby a lot
30:50 and friends.
30:52 We have a lot of Christians
30:55 and for years and pampers
31:00 or even worse
31:02 in the NICU
31:06 growing after birth
31:10 is as important as being born.
31:13 There's something called failure to thrive. You heard
31:15 about it, a baby that doesn't gain weight doesn't grow to
31:18 something wrong.
31:20 You need to grow in Grayson in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus
31:23 Christ.
31:25 And so there needs to be progression. There needs to be
31:27 grow.
31:28 If we don't stop growing, if we stop growing, we're dying.
31:31 Something's wrong. In our Christian experience in needs
31:34 to be dynamic.
31:35 And so that second phase of our tradition experience as
31:40 exemplified in the whole, the place
31:43 is staying alive. After we become a life
31:49 article furniture in there,
31:52 the lamp stand in every day. The priest would come in to
31:56 call the place. Du Preez represents Jesus and he comes
32:00 with an oil. No oil represents the holy spirit and he feels
32:03 the lamp stand. The lamp stands represents us the church.
32:08 He feels it up and there's light
32:12 and one of the fruit of the spirit,
32:17 it's a fruit. It's a result
32:20 is temperance,
32:24 self-control. Now we can't manufacture it. It's a gift of
32:29 the spirit.
32:30 It's a fruit of the spirit,
32:33 but notice how it happens. The only spirits poured into
32:35 our lives
32:37 and one of the fruit,
32:39 his temper,
32:42 self-control.
32:44 Now it's interesting.
32:46 Then in the Holy Place,
32:49 there's no light.
32:51 There's no skylight. There's only one source of light.
32:54 I should say.
32:55 It's the lamp stand
32:58 now. Right in front of the lamp stand is the table of showbread
33:02 and the bread. The bread of life can represent the word.
33:06 The only way to see the bread if is if the lights are on
33:12 the following me.
33:13 The only way to see the bread is if the lights are on.
33:18 So if you want to see the bread,
33:23 the lights have to be on.
33:26 No, the spirit we need help. But one of the things that
33:29 helps us to see the bread
33:32 is the fruit of the spirit, one of which
33:37 you ever try to read the Bible
33:41 after getting your Thanksgiving meal
33:46 comatose, you wake up in a fog. You're like, oh,
33:51 there's a reason for that.
33:52 Because contrary to the last 2000 years of Christian
33:55 theology, which has separated the body and the soul and says
33:59 that this dichotomy, we are a soul.
34:06 >> And so in Christian theology, you can do whatever
34:08 you want
34:09 with your body,
34:11 talking about Christian theology, the evangelicals in
34:13 the product since my love. They have this dichotomy.
34:16 So like, look, this always spiritual. That's the part that
34:18 you really need to care about because the body doesn't
34:21 matter. You can do whatever you want with your body.
34:24 You can put it in it whatever you want, you can put on it
34:27 whatever you want,
34:28 it doesn't matter.
34:30 But guess what? You are a soul.
34:33 So when you put that thing, you knew
34:36 you put it in your soul.
34:39 >> And its use your understanding.
34:43 And in the end of time,
34:45 Jesus says that there's going to be a deception that if
34:49 possible,
34:51 good to see the very elect
34:55 what is the end to toe and to do for deception.
35:00 The truce,
35:02 which means that we need this,
35:05 which means that we can't be impaired.
35:09 I don't practice health reform
35:11 in order to be saved.
35:15 I do it because
35:17 I would have a clear mind
35:20 and I want to give glory to got
35:22 because he bought this with his blood
35:26 Romans chapter 12 verse one. I beseech you, therefore,
35:29 brother in by the mercies of God that you present your
35:31 bodies, a living sacrifice, hold the acceptable to God,
35:34 which is your reasonable service.
35:38 When you read the vibe, when you see the word there for one
35:40 preacher said, ask what it's therefore, it's a concluding
35:43 statement. In other words, premise, premise premise there
35:47 for
35:48 in Rahman's. He's just gone through the beauty of the
35:50 Gospel, gone to justification, sanctification and it's by Fay.
35:54 You can earn it
35:56 your saved by grace through faith.
35:59 And after this, he says, therefore, because of the
36:02 mercies of God, has Jesus been merciful to you as you giving
36:06 you a chance after chance, has he given opportunity after
36:09 opportunity? Well, Paula says, therefore, because of all the
36:13 mercies of God, give your I bought this
36:18 a living sacrifice, not Macy, aided dying, sacrifice,
36:24 hold the acceptable to got which is reasonable.
36:29 It's not unreasonable. It's not irrational. It's not legalism.
36:35 It's reasonable.
36:37 But there's an order to this.
36:39 Jesus gives himself for us
36:42 and were touched by his love.
36:44 And because of that, we respond and say, Lord,
36:48 I give you this
36:50 the best version of this as possible.
36:54 And that's Danielle
36:58 means God is my judge, Dan. Yeah,
37:05 we get else should I?
37:08 They have to see it.
37:10 And people think that legacy means lukewarm.
37:13 Les, to see a that's a characteristic legacy means
37:17 people, judge,
37:19 it's the last church we are they to see people judged
37:25 is a type of the last generation,
37:29 the characteristics that he has.
37:32 We are to emulate by the grace of God.
37:36 And there's going to be a people in the end of time that
37:38 say I love Jesus so much
37:41 my body,
37:42 it's hit us
37:44 and I can't put anything in here because this is the temple
37:47 of Scott
37:51 in the end of time
37:52 to be prepared for the second coming of Jesus to be prepared
37:56 to meet our God.
37:58 We're going to practice the temperance of Daniel because
38:02 we're going to need to and need to understand the prophecies of
38:06 Daniel.
38:07 Very quickly to our second story here, a new chapter 6,
38:12 Daniel Chapter 6. Now the book of Daniel
38:15 is in this unique way of perilous and parallel lives.
38:21 It's in a kayak stick structure. And there are 2
38:25 stories that are in parallel to each other. Daniel Chapter 3
38:32 and Daniel Chapter 6
38:35 are on the same theme. What is the theme of Daniel chapters?
38:38 3? What's the story?
38:41 The fiery Furnace worship. Remember the Daniels, 3 friends
38:45 on the the plane of Dura. There is a death decree that if
38:50 you don't worship the image, you'll be cast into the fiery
38:56 furnace.
38:58 Now, the person that is missing
39:01 is Daniel.
39:03 Some people may assume that Daniel was acting like he was
39:06 tying his shoes.
39:08 So just to take away any doubt
39:11 what Daniel would have done, I believe that maybe was away on
39:14 business. Maybe Nebuchadnezzar knew the type of individual
39:17 that he wasn't say, hey, can you can you just go on this
39:19 trip, please?
39:21 And you can see evidence that Daniel would have stood with
39:25 the 3 other he breeze. Why? Because Daniel Chapter 6,
39:29 the test comes to him except this time. Daniel is a senior
39:33 citizen.
39:35 He's lived through the entire seven-year captivity
39:39 and there he is in a new regime.
39:43 Another regime takes over
39:45 and they place Daniel, who was basically second in command in
39:48 the previous kingdom, second in command and the next one,
39:51 Daniel not only had I high, I Q
39:55 he had I eat you as well.
39:58 He was a loving and lovable Christian, a man by his grace.
40:02 And so in Daniel Chapter 6, we have this story
40:07 and it's familiar to all of us.
40:13 I have a 6 year-old
40:16 and a 2 year-old
40:18 and
40:21 we we go to the zoo quite often
40:27 for the kids.
40:28 It's amazing with.
40:30 It's amazing what you do when your parents
40:34 and
40:35 there have been several times
40:38 that I go to see these big cats
40:42 and can you imagine I just imagined myself accidentally
40:46 said nightmares. I have. I don't know. I think these
40:48 thoughts but
40:49 being like dropped in that cage.
40:53 Have you seen the paws of these big cats
40:57 during that story of Siegfried Roy number years ago,
41:02 he had tame this this this tiger from an early age
41:07 and it is this freak accident. I think he tripped over
41:11 something and sentence something that that prey in
41:14 sting kick to accept. This cat wasn't just this little
41:17 company. More is full grown any tripped and instantly that cat
41:22 launched and you know where they go, they go, right.
41:26 I mean, I can do the job killer
41:29 and shook him like a rag doll. He survived.
41:33 He survived. And I remember him doing an interview shortly
41:36 thereafter. I mean, he looked a shell of himself.
41:39 So here's the decree. Look worship the king for 30 days.
41:45 You're going to be in with those big cats.
41:49 So here is Daniel
41:53 had been doing the same rhythm, the same routine, his entire
41:58 captivity.
42:00 How do we know that diverse as that he did this since his
42:03 early days now? Now the question is why would he do it
42:06 this particular way? The Bible says that he would open his
42:09 windows toward Ruislip.
42:11 Why would he do that?
42:12 Because Solomon in his dead, a cut or a prayer. When you read
42:16 about in chronicles, it's a beautiful prayer.
42:19 He prays this particular prayer and he says.
42:22 >> Lord, if your people are unfaithful and led away to
42:27 captivity, he knew that because of Deuteronomy
42:30 Moses had prophesied. If they're not faithful, they're
42:32 going to be led away into captivity. So he praises per
42:36 Solomon is dead, a cut or a prayer says, Lord,
42:39 if our people are led away into captivity, may they pray
42:44 toward?
42:45 >> This place?
42:48 And I believe that every day of Daniel's existence in Babylon,
42:53 he would get up and have the same rhythm and ritual and
42:57 routine 3 times a day and you would pray toward Jerusalem,
43:02 praying for deliverance, praying for the restoration of
43:05 his people.
43:07 And you can imagine
43:09 the decree is out
43:11 and he notes
43:12 what's about to happen.
43:14 Can you imagine the pressure,
43:19 the tendency to rationalize in his mind?
43:23 I mean, I would be tempted to think liked.
43:27 I'm going to pray
43:29 when my windows closed today.
43:33 God understands,
43:35 by the way, I would be so much more effective
43:40 second in command and in the stomach of a lion.
43:44 So many ways to to rationalize. I've served. Got all these
43:47 years. Surely you understand, after all, I don't need open my
43:50 windows today. God knows my heart,
43:55 but he didn't
43:59 keeping his windows closed. That day
44:03 would be a statement to the rest of the world
44:08 that he was bowing to the pressure
44:11 and ultimately this honoring he's caught
44:15 senior says
44:18 well into his 80's, possibly his 90's.
44:23 Imagine the scene.
44:29 Let's imagine these guys with these ear pieces. I know they
44:31 didn't have back then, you know,
44:34 SWAT team cattle are everything.
44:37 Is he going to do it? Just watch.
44:44 And you know, it's the moment he kneels.
44:47 He's probably a dead man
44:53 break in their own,
44:55 read him his Miranda rights.
45:01 Here's the Punchline.
45:05 I would rather die,
45:07 then misses devotions.
45:11 Let me say that again,
45:13 Daniel would rather die. Then miss his devotions.
45:19 A man Daniel would rather be eaten by a lion.
45:24 Then miss his time with God.
45:28 What's the reason why we miss our devotions
45:31 [MUSIC]
45:36 too much pickles. Peanut butter and pizza. The night before
45:40 the snooze button.
45:43 Facebook you to checking our phone first thing in the
45:47 morning.
45:49 Thousands of reasons to miss our devotions.
45:54 But Daniel,
45:55 who is a type of the last generation that it can be
45:57 prepared to meet got
46:00 devotions
46:01 the highest priority of his life
46:06 dear to him than life itself.
46:12 It said that
46:14 conversations,
46:21 the relationship
46:23 as one book, I have called fears conversations
46:26 and she says that our lives change slowly
46:31 then dramatically.
46:33 One conversation at a time
46:37 you think about your life, there's certain conversations
46:41 your entire life.
46:44 Those one has been that was always upset with his wife
46:46 because she always wanted to talk about the relationship and
46:49 being the typical man. He says, why do we need to talk about a
46:51 relationship? But we just have a relationship.
46:55 And then he realized
46:57 that the conversation
46:59 once the relationship,
47:01 yeah, people in your life that you stop talking to
47:06 relationships over
47:08 because the communion, the conversation is the
47:12 relationship
47:14 our devotional time.
47:17 It's very simple.
47:19 Got talks to us through his word.
47:23 We talked back to God in prayer.
47:27 This is the conversation,
47:30 the conversation,
47:33 the relationship.
47:35 There's 3 things that emerge from Daniel Chapter 6 in verse
47:39 10. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went
47:42 home and in his upper room with his Windows open, torturous
47:45 mean out down on his knees and prayed 3 times that day
47:49 and gave thanks before God as his custom wise. Since his
47:54 early days, he had a rhythm routine and ritual. Same time,
47:58 same place. Same way.
48:03 We should have
48:04 a way
48:06 any system
48:08 of having our devotions every single day.
48:13 It should be like clockwork.
48:16 It should be like brushing our teeth.
48:22 I have this
48:23 this ritual
48:30 the way that you succeed in the morning.
48:34 It starts the night before.
48:36 You know that Tim Cook
48:39 gets up at 3.45. am every single day? You know, Tim Cook,
48:44 Tim Cook is the CEO of Apple.
48:47 Tim Cook gets up at 03:45AM. every single day
48:54 because he's committed to Apple.
48:57 It's wrapped.
48:58 >> The CEO of Disney is up before 05:00AM every single
49:03 day. And yet we have an audience with the King of Kings
49:06 and the Lord of Lords.
49:11 We should get ready for that.
49:13 And it begins the night before.
49:16 And so I have a read a rhythm and ritual
49:19 for how I go to bed at night and it's very simple.
49:22 One of the things is my my cell phone.
49:26 >> Sit next to my lab table on by my bed. Studies have shown
49:29 that if you have that thing by your bed, your sleep quality
49:32 goes down, just having it there. The blue light that you
49:36 get from that phone
49:37 many times we go to sleep with that thing. All right.
49:40 They say a minimum of half an hour. More ideally an hour
49:43 before you're going to sleep. You should have no screen time
49:46 because it messes
49:48 your sleet.
49:53 You know, I'm an administrator and
49:56 I need to be present with my family. I was constantly
49:58 getting interrupted my phone. So you know where I park my
50:01 phone when I come home in the garage.
50:05 That's real.
50:06 It's plugged in in the garage. Now
50:09 at intervals during the evening. I go out there to
50:12 check it
50:15 cold out there. And I'm just like, oh, I need to catch up on
50:17 this and I put it back.
50:20 We need a way to manage our phones in.
50:23 It's taking over our lives.
50:27 I do something with my phone. Another thing is
50:30 the ritual. I brush my teeth. A shower after the game.
50:33 Get out a shower. Get dressed. But I do something. I grab my
50:37 clothes from the night before.
50:40 Not the 94th that I'm going with the next day.
50:44 It's been a long day.
50:46 I grab my clothes
50:48 that then I'm going to air the next day and I put them out
50:51 there on the kitchen table and I put my Bible. I put a
50:55 flashlight
50:57 and I put a notebook
50:59 on the kitchen table that way. I get up in the morning
51:03 talking play, grab my clothes, put it on, grab my Bible,
51:07 grab my flashlight. Its goal
51:11 because that's the most important appointment by day.
51:15 And I want to be ready.
51:17 >> I want to be ready. Rhythm, routine ritual. But you need to
51:22 do what works for you.
51:25 >> This is how we prepare for the second coming of Jesus.
51:29 We talked about what Jesus would walk in this room right
51:31 now. What's going to be our interaction with him? Is it
51:34 going to be awkward is going to be like I know you I don't
51:37 know. You kind of know you
51:39 if we spend time with God every day in our personal devotions
51:43 and throughout the day in our thoughts and medications
51:47 when he comes, we're going to be like
51:54 right where we left off
51:59 some tips for having our morning devotions
52:03 number one.
52:06 This is the prayer that we should always pray is found in
52:08 the book steps to Christ Page 70
52:12 consecrate yourself to God in the morning.
52:15 Make this your very first work.
52:17 Let your prayer be. Take me us O Lord. As holding 9, I lay on
52:22 my plans at thy feet. Use meat a day in nice service. Abide
52:27 with me and let all my work be wrought in D this is a daily
52:31 matter each morning. Consecrate yourself to God for that day
52:35 surrender all your plans to him to be carried out to be given
52:38 up as his providence shell indicate this day by day,
52:42 you may be giving your life into the hands of God and
52:45 that's your life will be molded more and more after the life of
52:49 crime. Just when you get out
52:51 kneel beside your bed and say Lord, today I R s
52:58 I surrender
53:00 help me to be willing to be made willing.
53:03 Give me the gift of repentance. You know, repentance is a gift
53:06 prevented, says sorrow for San Ana. Turning away from it.
53:09 In other words, you can go to God say, Lord,
53:12 I love the sun will be dated.
53:15 I don't even feel sorry. Help me to be sorry.
53:20 That's the most helpless. Yet most invincible prayer that
53:22 you can pray. The Lord today I'm giving you authorization in
53:27 my life.
53:29 That's how you prepare to meet our guy
53:35 said a regular time and place tab devotions
53:39 and that's the Holy Spirit to help you in your study. Choose
53:44 the passage of scripture. You can start off with
53:46 practical books like first Thessalonians or the book of
53:49 James
53:52 paraphrase the passage in a notebook I highly recommend
53:57 that you write
53:58 rather than your computer
54:01 engages more of your mind.
54:04 Ascot Lord, what are you trying to tell me in this passage and
54:07 write your prayer response to God? This is very simple and
54:11 think about the Bible passage throughout the day.
54:16 You want to deeper devotional life
54:20 you want to life.
54:25 That is just marinated with the word of God.
54:34 A colleague of mine
54:38 that
54:40 I was at a ministerial meeting at
54:42 he told me the story
54:45 how he met his wife.
54:46 So I perked up.
54:48 I was single at the time
54:52 on the Internet
54:55 avenues singles dot com, something like that.
54:58 He was in the state. She's in a foreign country
55:01 and they fell in love.
55:04 They decided to get married.
55:06 He proposed to her without ever having met.
55:12 I was like, whoa, man. And he said, David,
55:16 it gets even better.
55:19 We set the wedding day
55:22 and I went over there.
55:25 The groomsmen, everything was set.
55:29 And the first time I met her face to face was when I got off
55:33 the plane
55:34 and a few days later, we got married.
55:37 Now, this is descriptive, not prescriptive. You know, I'm
55:39 talking about
55:41 which means this administration, not a model for
55:44 dating and courtship in a way to work out.
55:47 Have you got?
55:50 And I said, my brother,
55:53 we're going to do. If you got off that plane, you look at
55:55 this woman does about the your wife and you said, Oh, lord,
55:57 what have I done?
55:58 [MUSIC]
56:03 He said, David,
56:05 it was the strange thing
56:08 because we spent so much time.
56:11 >> Every day
56:13 in conversation because conversation is the
56:16 relationship. We just spent so much time every day talking to
56:19 each other in communion that when I matter face to face
56:26 our relationship, kicked up
56:33 one day,
56:35 we're going to be Jesus face to face.
56:39 >> And if we're spending time with him every day
56:43 because we'd rather die than miss our devotions
56:47 when we beat Jesus,
56:49 it's going to be like
56:54 this is our guide.
56:56 We have waited for him
56:58 and he will save us
57:00 and our relationship will pick up right where it left off
57:06 and continue
57:07 4 after and never. But the cisa sages of paternity.
57:13 How many you want to save or create in me a deeper desire
57:16 for you. Help me with my devotion life. A man by
57:19 straits. Let's pray. Father in heaven.
57:22 You know, our promises are like ropes of sand,
57:25 but give us the desire to desire.
57:28 Help us to put away our phones and open our bibles. Get us up
57:31 in the morning. Mayor Angels touch us so that we can spend
57:35 time with you so that when we see you face-to-face, our
57:39 relationship will pick up
57:41 right where we left off, help us to rather die than miss our
57:45 devotions.
57:46 >> We asked in the precious name of Jesus Christ
