00:01 The Bible tells us, "In the beginning was the Word,
00:03 and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." 00:08 It says, "To receive with meekness 00:10 the implanted Word, 00:11 which is able to save your souls. 00:14 And to be diligent to present yourself 00:16 approved to God, 00:18 rightly dividing the Word of truth." 00:21 Join us now for the 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:25 Our study today is the Book of Daniel. 00:31 Hello, friends, welcome to 3ABN Sabbath School panel. 00:34 My name is John Lomacang. 00:36 Thank you for taking the time to tune in. 00:38 And if you've been following us, 00:39 we are continuing in this 00:41 beautiful excursion through the Book of Daniel. 00:44 It's been challenging, it's been enlightening, 00:46 it's been a blessing. 00:47 We hope that you have been following us. 00:49 But if you haven't, and this is your first time, 00:51 remember this channel, 00:53 we believe it's ordained by God to communicate 00:55 an everlasting gospel 00:56 with an undiluted circumference around it. 01:00 Today, we're going to be talking about 01:01 Daniel 11, From Battle to Victory, 01:05 actually Daniel Chapter 10, in lesson number 11, 01:08 From Battle to Victory. 01:10 And before we go any further, 01:11 I'd like to introduce our family. 01:14 We say panelists, but I say family. 01:16 To my immediate left is Pastor Kenny Shelton. 01:18 Good to have you here. It's good to be here always. 01:20 Thank you. You look battle ready? 01:22 I'm ready to go. Yes. 02:01 How are you on short prayers? Yeah. 02:03 I'd like you to pray for us now. 02:04 I'll make short. Amen. Let's pray. 02:06 Father in heaven, 02:07 we thank You for another opportunity 02:09 to study Your Word. 02:10 Bless us we pray with power Thy Holy Spirit. 02:12 Illuminate these beautiful truths to our ears, our eyes, 02:15 our hearts, our minds. 02:16 Every viewer, ever listener, Lord, will give You praise, 02:18 give You honor, give You glory, 02:20 take full charge in Jesus' name, amen. 02:22 Amen. I receive that. 02:24 All right. We're going to look... 02:26 Now first of all, if you want to follow us 02:27 because I think you're probably saying, 02:29 well, what lesson are you covering 02:30 and how can I do so? 02:32 Go to the following website, ABSG.Adventist.org, 02:37 and download a copy or better yet, 02:40 look for a local Seventh-day Adventist Church, 02:42 show up and say, I want to study. 02:44 They will invite you in and you'll find a fellowship 02:47 that is God breathed and Spirit led. 02:49 And I encourage you to do that. 02:51 Our memory text is very short one, 02:53 I mean, super short. 02:55 And it's Daniel 10:19, 02:59 "O man greatly beloved, fear not: 03:04 peace be to you, be strong, yes, be strong." 03:09 What a message? 03:11 You may be a little fearful but be strong, yes, be strong. 03:15 And when you think of the life that Daniel had, 03:17 there were many times that he had good reason 03:20 to be fearful. 03:22 We're going to be talking about today, 03:25 the setting of Daniel 10. 03:26 It takes us to vision the Heavenly Messenger, 03:30 the touch of that Heavenly Messenger. 03:33 But then today's lesson focuses on something that 03:35 I think is sometimes misunderstood, 03:37 sometimes wrongly practice, that's fasting and prayer. 03:42 And what I want to do today is focus on 03:45 how I understand fasting and prayer to be a blessing. 03:48 And then why do we need to pray? 03:52 We first of all, Hebrews 11:6, let's go there. 03:55 Let's start with that particular passage. 03:58 Hebrews 11:6, 04:00 I'm going to put a piece of paper 04:01 here so I don't lose Daniel. 04:04 Daniel never lost me, so I don't want to lose him. 04:06 Do you have that, Jill? Sure. 04:08 Hebrews 11:6, 04:09 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, 04:12 for he who comes to God must believe that He is, 04:15 and that He is a rewarder 04:16 of those who diligently seek Him." 04:19 And so prayer is, in fact, an act of faith 04:23 in diligently seeking someone that you can't see. 04:27 But you have to believe, and when you believe 04:30 and you seek Him, He said, 04:31 I will reward you not just somewhat, 04:35 but diligently. 04:37 He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him 04:40 and in our diligence seeking, the reward will come. 04:44 The context of this is Daniel 10:1-3. 04:48 And let's go ahead and read that. 04:50 Let's go ahead and read that. 04:52 "In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia 04:56 a message was revealed to Daniel, 04:58 whose name was called Belteshazzar. 05:01 The message was true, 05:03 but the appointed time was long, 05:06 and he understood the message, 05:08 and had understanding of the vision. 05:10 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. 05:17 I ate no pleasant food, 05:19 no meat or wine came into my mouth, 05:22 nor did I anoint myself at all, 05:25 till three whole weeks were fulfilled." 05:29 Whatever Daniel was shown 05:30 really caused him consternation. 05:33 He was really concerned about 05:35 what this means and the implications to it. 05:37 And you'll see that one of the reasons 05:42 why he was so concerned is because Daniel, 05:45 and having experienced from the prior administration, 05:48 and also the administration 05:49 under which he was now existing, 05:51 he saw the larger picture. 05:53 He knew that the people of God 05:55 would receive constant adversity 05:57 as we go to the Book of Ezra 05:59 because it was a question that 06:00 that was asked about 06:03 the people of Daniel, the Jews, they faced challenges. 06:06 And Ezra 4 gives us a peek into that challenge. 06:11 Ezra 4:1-5, it says, 06:13 "Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin 06:16 heard that the descendants of the captivity 06:18 were building the temple of the Lord God of Israel, 06:22 they came to Zerubbabel 06:24 and the heads of the fathers' houses, 06:25 and said to them, 'Let us build with you," 06:27 this is a powerful story which we covered 06:29 in one of our lessons in the past, 06:31 "for we seek your God as you do, 06:33 and we have sacrificed to Him since the days of Esarhaddon 06:37 king of Assyria, who brought us here.' 06:40 But Zerubbabel and Jeshua 06:43 and the rest of the heads 06:44 of the fathers' houses of Israel said to them, 06:47 'You may do nothing with us to build a house for our God, 06:50 but we alone will build to the Lord God of Israel, 06:53 as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.' 06:56 Then the people of the land 06:58 tried to discourage the people of Judah. 07:01 They troubled them in building, and hired counselors 07:04 against them to frustrate their purpose 07:07 all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, 07:10 even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.'" 07:13 So they had a difficult time. 07:15 So Daniel now, what do you do 07:17 when difficulty come your way, difficulties come your way? 07:21 You do what Daniel did. 07:22 You begin to pray. 07:24 So I want to point out first, the reason, three major reasons 07:28 why we should pray, one, we should persist in prayer, 07:31 even when our petitions are not answered immediately. 07:35 Because the Lord knows 07:37 the timing of each of our petition, 07:38 he knows when a prayer is best to be answered. 07:40 Some people pray for jobs, 07:42 they pray for good medical results. 07:44 Sometimes the Lord has to take us 07:46 through the process of trusting Him in the waiting, 07:50 in the waiting we need to trust Him, 07:52 not in the immediate answer, 07:53 but in the waiting because He is still God, 07:55 and He will give no stone 07:57 to His child when they ask for bread. 08:00 Secondly, we should devote time to pray for others. 08:05 There's something special about intercessory prayer. 08:09 You know, in the story of Job, 08:11 the Lord restored all of Job's losses 08:13 when he prayed for his friends. 08:14 And sometimes people can pray for 08:16 what their supposed friends have done to them. 08:19 But when we start praying for others, 08:21 our heart begins to expand, 08:23 our concerns begin to diminish for ourselves, 08:26 the focus is off of us. 08:28 It's like seeing somebody coming out of the grocery store 08:30 and their arms are full with packages, 08:32 and we go over and help them. 08:34 All of a sudden you feel good for the rest of the day 08:36 because you've done your, your daily deed. 08:40 And in the same way, when we pray for others, 08:41 we begin to see that, you know, 08:43 I'm not really the one 08:44 that's going through difficulty alone. 08:46 There are others who have the same hardship. 08:47 And thirdly, prayer prompts God 08:50 to do something concrete and real. 08:52 So let us pray always, all kinds of prayers 08:56 in the face of unbearable trials, 08:58 big problems and overwhelming challenges, 09:00 let us take our burdens to God in prayer. 09:03 So, Jill, five reasons to pray. Yay! 09:08 I don't know how that came about, 09:10 but I'm gonna share with you. 09:11 Matthew 26:41, the first one. 09:14 Well, the first reason to pray is we are spiritually weak. 09:20 Mark 9... 09:22 Matthew 26:41. 09:24 Matthew 26:41, "Watch and pray, 09:28 lest you enter into temptation. 09:31 The spirit indeed is willing, 09:33 together, but the flesh is weak." 09:36 We're in prison in a weak flesh. 09:39 We have been forgiven. 09:41 And the Bible says, "It is no longer I who live 09:43 but Christ who lives in me," Galatians 2:20. 09:46 But even though we live by the power 09:48 and the grace of Christ, 09:50 we still have to contend with this old fortress 09:52 called the flesh. 09:54 And we will be here, we will be here 09:55 until the Lord gives us a new body. 09:57 Looking forward to that day. Amen. 09:59 So prayer, keeping in touch with the one 10:01 who can provide a strength 10:02 and give us answers in time of difficulty 10:05 is the only option 10:06 that the Christian should partake of. 10:09 Secondly, Satan cannot resist earnest prayer and fasting. 10:14 Mark 9:29. 10:16 So he said to them, when they could not see 10:19 an answer to cast this demon out. 10:22 "He said to them, 'This kind can come out 10:24 by nothing but prayer and fasting.'" 10:27 Yes. Fasting is an amazing thing. 10:28 Some people, 10:30 you don't have to necessarily do it 10:31 like Daniel for three weeks 10:33 not eating any pleasurable food. 10:35 The Lord may say, 10:36 "Well, you have high blood pressure, 10:37 you can't go without eating, 10:39 or maybe you're not the kind of person 10:40 that could go long without certain types 10:42 of dietary principles or dietary practices." 10:46 Choose something that you know will be a great sacrifice. 10:50 Now, I know we live in a technological generation. 10:53 I'm not saying three days without going on Facebook, 10:55 that's not fasting. 10:57 But do something that has a spiritual connotation 10:59 and a spiritual blessing, 11:00 something that is in fact a denial of self, 11:03 and put yourself before the Lord. 11:05 And you'll see, He will answer 11:06 because prayer and fasting, He says, is the foundation 11:10 by which many prayers are answered 11:12 that would not otherwise be answered. 11:14 Thirdly, prayer increases our faith. 11:17 Mark 11:24, "Therefore I say to you, 11:21 whatever things you ask when you pray, 11:23 believe that you receive them," and what's the rest? 11:26 "And you will have them." 11:28 Prayer increases our faith. I want to make a point here. 11:30 Prayer doesn't change God, 11:31 prayer is intended to change us. 11:34 He's the same all the time yesterday, 11:36 today and for how long? 11:37 Forever. 11:39 So we'll find that in praying, somebody once said to me, 11:41 "Why do you pray over and over 11:42 when God already knows what you need?" 11:44 Because God wants you to pray, 11:46 so that you can be changed, not Him. 11:48 And it's like a son pulling on daddy's shirt, daddy, daddy. 11:52 The father says, 11:53 I understand your petition is earnest, 11:55 and he hears us out of a sincere heart. 11:58 The fourth reason is prayer is an intercessory act. 12:02 1 Timothy 2:1, 12:04 "Therefore I exhort 12:05 first of all that supplications, 12:08 prayers, intercessions, 12:10 and giving of thanks be made for all men." 12:13 You know, when you put a prayer list together, 12:15 don't always say, 12:16 "Well, I'm going to pray for your needs." 12:18 Sometimes we have to pray for people 12:19 that just don't know how to pray 12:20 or just are not even godly. 12:22 They may be in a difficult situation. 12:24 They may not even be a Christian. 12:26 When I pray for people, 12:27 I let them know I pray for them. 12:29 Servant of the Lord says when you pray for people, 12:31 let them know you pray for them. 12:32 You'll be amazed how many people said, 12:34 you know what? 12:36 2 o'clock yesterday something happened. 12:37 And you say, you know what? 12:39 2 o'clock yesterday, 12:40 I was impressed to pray for you. 12:41 They'll say, "Praise the Lord. Now I know why." 12:44 Because intercessory prayer makes a difference 12:47 for those who cannot intercede for themselves, 12:50 where they may be so broken, 12:51 that the clouds of depression have surrounded them. 12:54 And then the other one, 12:55 number five, prayer opens your heart to God. 12:58 Philippians 4:6, "Be anxious for nothing, 13:02 but in everything by prayer and supplication, 13:06 with thanksgiving, 13:08 let your requests be made known to God, 13:11 and the peace of God that passes all understanding 13:13 will guard your heart through Christ Jesus. 13:16 So pray always, but all supplication 13:20 and your prayers will be answered 13:22 in God's timing so that your faith can be strengthened 13:26 and your heart can be encouraged. 13:28 Amen. Pastor Kenny. 13:30 I think we all need that, 13:32 we need to be refreshed on these things 13:33 because the power of prayer is awesome. 13:36 We serve an awesome God. 13:37 I have Monday's lesson, and I like it, 13:40 "The Vision of the Prince." 13:42 And it talk about a vision, Daniel Chapter 10, 13:44 there's some, 13:45 I think fantastic verses in here. 13:48 I'm not gonna try to go through all of them, 13:49 but just give, want you to read those 13:51 and we'll go back 13:52 and study a little bit about them as we go. 13:54 Taking off of what you were talking 13:56 about here was Daniel. 13:57 He was doing a three week fast, 14:00 you know, and then he comes off of that fast 14:02 and it seemed like sometimes 14:04 when we fast and we pray and we spend time with God, 14:06 God does something marvelous right after that. 14:10 There's things that are opened up. 14:11 There's things that happen that wouldn't have taken place 14:14 if we had not fasted and prayed. 14:16 That's right. 14:17 And so here I think this is what's going on here. 14:19 He said, after he did all this fasting and praying, 14:22 he saw the appearance of a man. 14:23 So we're going to look 14:25 and so my lesson is easy this time, 14:27 we just need to identify this man. 14:29 So we'll do that in verses 4 through 9, 14:32 in Daniel Chapter 10:4 through I think it's through 9 here. 14:35 But it's just, as we go through this, 14:37 we just say on the fourth 14:38 and twentieth day of the first month. 14:40 And as I was looking at that, it said here in our lesson, 14:43 it seems that this be the only date in the book 14:46 that Daniel is given to the exact date and month. 14:49 Anybody else find that? 14:51 Did the exact day and month he starts it out, 14:54 so there must have been a reason for that here. 14:57 So Daniel is given the exact day, 14:58 the exact month of his three weeks fasting. 15:01 And here's what Daniel sees. 15:03 He sees this person, a certain man. 15:06 And then he's described here, "I lifted up mine eyes, 15:08 I looked, behold a certain man clothed in linen, 15:11 whose loins were girded with fine gold," 15:13 and notice, "his body was like beryl, 15:15 and his face the appearance of lightning, 15:17 eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet 15:20 color of polished brass, 15:21 and the voice of his word like the voice of" what? 15:24 "Multitude." Boy, it's going on. 15:27 And so, Daniel here begins to talk. 15:28 He say, I see a man, 15:30 he's clothed with linen and with find gold. 15:31 I see a face he has the appearance of what? 15:33 It's lightning. 15:35 This must be something that's heavenly. 15:37 There's no doubt about what he's seeing here. 15:39 He's having it and he is having a vision here. 15:41 Some people get mistaken say, well, it's not his, 15:44 because of the way that it's worded. 15:45 that I believe is envisioned here. 15:47 Amen. God is speaking to him. 15:49 And he said he had lamp, notice it says, 15:51 his eyes were like lamps of fire. 15:53 And you compare that with Revelation 1:14 15:55 and it calls it flames of fire. 15:57 That's right. 15:58 And then we look into, it says, 16:00 he had arms of feet, and arm and feet like brass. 16:02 Revelation 1:15, it says, 16:04 like it was burned in a furnace. 16:06 That's right. Wow. 16:07 Voice like many waters when he spoke, I'm telling, 16:10 it just echoed and echoed and rolled and rolled 16:12 like a wave many miles out the ocean just keeps coming in, 16:15 everybody's going to hear it. 16:18 In Revelation 1:17 John said, as Daniel did, 16:22 when he saw this individual something happen. 16:25 He said, "I had the vision," verse 7, 16:27 "the men that were with me saw it not," 16:29 notice the vision, he makes it clear, 16:30 "but a great quaking fell upon them, 16:32 they got scared to death." 16:34 You know, I mean, absolutely, 16:35 they were quaking in their boots. 16:37 It was something they could not understand. 16:39 Many times spiritual thing where they are spiritual things 16:41 are spiritually understood. 16:43 So God was wanting to speak to Daniel, 16:45 he had people around, but all of a sudden, 16:47 they weren't around very much longer 16:48 because they, you know, they scared him to death. 16:51 But notice, Daniel evidently went down. 16:53 He went down, and it reminds you of, 16:55 wasn't it, Paul? 16:57 You know, he was there. 16:58 God was giving a vision to Paul and pretty soon what'd he do? 17:02 Well, he went down and fell, 17:03 and John when had a vision in Revelation, what did he do? 17:07 He fell down as a... The Bible said as a what? 17:10 As a dead man. 17:11 So you know, there's something happened here, there verse 8, 17:14 "Therefore I was left alone, saw the great vision, 17:17 and there remained no strength in me." 17:19 Identifying marks is it not of someone 17:22 who is in vision. 17:23 When you go in vision to many person, 17:25 well, I had a vision and they are wide awake 17:27 and they're talking 17:28 and they have all their strength. 17:29 Something's not going on. Something's not right. 17:31 Because when the vision is given by God, 17:33 there are certain characteristics 17:35 that take place in the person. 17:37 They lose their strength, every, all of their strength, 17:41 their ability is gone, 17:42 and they're filled with 17:43 the Holy Spirit of the Living God. 17:46 As what it says, strengthen me, I means its power. 17:48 I mean, his own ability was gone. 17:50 He didn't need his ability, 17:52 a man of God but didn't need it. 17:53 We need the strength and ability of the Holy Spirit. 17:57 He said, his comeliness, his vigor was turned into me 18:01 into corruption and that's what we're saying, 18:03 no strength in man, certainly in vision many time, 18:06 the one who's having the vision doesn't even breathe. 18:08 You know we've seen that, you know, Spirit of Prophecy, 18:10 many times they did not even take a breath, 18:12 they didn't breathe, why? 18:13 Because it was no longer them, 18:14 not long I, but Christ lived in them. 18:16 So we realize here his corruption, 18:18 they say, it was gone, it was just destroyed. 18:20 Yet I heard the voice of his words, 18:22 when I heard, you know, when I heard this, 18:25 it made me stop and think, sometimes, 18:28 maybe this is little gross for some, 18:30 but you know, you visit, 18:31 I'm sure and each one of you have here. 18:33 I want to be nice. Watch out. 18:35 People like to talk about death. 18:37 But when you go and maybe you're visiting someone 18:40 and trying to pray with the family so on, 18:41 someone's on their deathbed, they cannot move, 18:44 they cannot talk. 18:46 But the last thing that goes is their hearing. 18:50 He had lost everything here. 18:53 There's really no strength and even though he fell down 18:55 on his face, he couldn't do anything, 18:56 he couldn't move evidently, but he could still hear. 19:00 And so, because that's what God wants to do is to speak to him. 19:04 I heard the voice of the words then I was in a deep sleep 19:07 and I was on my face and my face toward the ground. 19:10 Now he's talking about here. 19:12 Yeah, he was in a heavy stupor as it were, 19:15 he was semi-unconscious. 19:17 And then, of course, 19:18 we know the end in next verse on that. 19:20 So anyway, I think these verses are very, very important here 19:22 because it brings out in our lesson clear that 19:25 this is a supernatural individual, 19:28 because we know we're talking about Jesus here 19:29 for time all runs out. 19:31 We know that He come, Jesus takes care of business. 19:34 That's what I like, right? 19:35 And I won't say that He's a businessman. 19:37 I'm his business. 19:39 He cares about me, He cares about you. 19:41 So He comes to us in that way. 19:43 It's clear that is a supernatural character 19:45 and is invested with power, and privileges, and authority, 19:49 and with priestly here because of the... 19:53 why he had on right the linen, he had, he was royal. 19:56 He had military attributes. 19:58 I mean, this was Daniel's vision 20:00 shows me once again that God is still in control 20:04 with all of these lessons, the whole book of Daniel. 20:07 If we get nothing else out of it, 20:09 I would love for all of us to get out of that God... 20:11 Over and over you can say, He still in control. 20:15 It's not that we're talking past, 20:16 we're talking about today He's in control, the future, 20:20 He's still in control. 20:21 We have nothing to worry about. 20:24 You know, my thing is I need to concentrate make sure 20:26 my life is right with God, 20:28 because of the time Daniel keep reminding me 20:30 this message is for the what? 20:32 Time of the end, we know that 20:34 now become clear and clear as we go, 20:36 as we study. 20:37 Daniel was overwhelmed with what he sees. 20:39 But you know what? 20:41 You can figure it out as we look line upon line 20:43 and precept upon precept, 20:44 here a little and there a little. 20:47 I like Review and Herald, 2/8, 1881. 20:51 This is talking about what is taking place 20:53 because it's dealing with God's last day people. 20:55 If you feel you're part of God's 20:57 last day people, 20:58 this would apply to us, this message Daniel 10 and 11 21:02 and certainly 12 is talking about the last day message, 21:05 last little things that's going to happen 21:06 before Jesus comes in Daniel 10:8 21:10 dealing with God's people in these last days. 21:13 Review and Herald, 2/8, 1881 says this, 21:17 "Our Lord now comes to another heavily messenger 21:21 to teach Daniel 21:23 what would take place in the latter days." 21:25 Just backing up what scripture has already said, 21:27 things that would take place. 21:28 So those of you who are interested, 21:30 which I'm very interested. 21:31 All this other stuff is good. History is good. 21:33 History is wonderful. 21:35 It's all great to go for those may be Doubting Thomas, 21:37 or you want to build that relationship, 21:38 you want to make sure, it's all beautiful, 21:40 but what about our relationship with Christ? 21:43 What is it all about here? 21:44 That's what's the most important thing here, 21:46 the things that will take place 21:47 so we can be ready for those things. 21:50 Daniel, again goes ahead and describes the things 21:52 that we've talked about here, 21:54 closely resembles that in Daniel 7:13 21:57 that we read about before this individual. 21:59 Mount of Blessing 14, as our time is winding down. 22:02 God chose to present the Son in a prophetic vision 22:06 with special emphasis on His humanity. 22:09 I love that, last time I had the opportunity to talk about 22:11 that humanity of Christ. 22:12 I'd love to have more time 22:14 as everybody does to talk about it. 22:15 In John 1:1-4 that we read before, and also John 1:12, 22:19 John 1:14 brings out, Philippians 2:7, Hebrews 2:14, 22:25 jot them down quick, I'm going quickly with it. 22:28 And we can see that Jesus, 22:30 yeah, I think about His humanity. 22:32 Here He's coming and showing up in His humanity. 22:35 And this is something that He will carry for all eternity. 22:39 I am just blown away that the King Jesus, 22:45 King of the universe would take on humanity 22:48 and He would ever bear that through all the eternal ages. 22:52 Because He's our elder brother, He wants His soul 22:55 to relate to us that He's willing to do that. 22:58 We will never know, at least in my opinion 22:59 we'll never know until we see what He gave up. 23:02 Try to see what He gave up, you know, 23:04 through the ceaseless ages 23:05 that He's willing to do that for us. 23:08 Desire of Ages, 25 simple quickly says, 23:10 "The one who stands before the Father for us 23:14 is one like themselves, 23:15 one tempted and tried in all points. 23:19 One who is touched 23:20 with the feeling of our infirmity." 23:23 Hebrews 4:15. 23:24 And certainly comparisons you can do that, 23:26 read in the Book of John, in Revelation 1:12-18. 23:29 And you see this individual, 23:31 the one that showed up is none other, 23:33 hmm, again as Jesus Christ. 23:35 Amen. Okay. 23:37 And that was the portion that you were given to deal with, 23:39 and thank you so much for clarifying that. 23:40 While Daniel is going through distress, Jesus shows up. 23:44 Praise the Lord for that. 23:45 We're going to take a short break 23:47 and come back on lesson, 23:49 Tuesday's lesson that Jill will pick up. 23:51 But don't go away, we'll be right back. 23:53 Amen. 23:58 Ever wish you could watch a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel 24:01 again, or share it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? 24:05 Well, you can by visiting 3abnsabbathschoolpanel.com. 24:10 A clean design makes it easy 24:12 to find the program you're looking for. 24:14 There are also links to the Adult Bible Study Guide 24:18 so you can follow along. 24:20 Sharing is easy. 24:21 Just click share and choose your favorite social media. 24:24 Share a link, save a life for eternity. 24:31 Welcome back to the continued study of Daniel, 24:34 and now I'm going to give Jill Tuesday's lesson 24:36 which is "Touched by an Angel." 24:38 Thank you so much, Pastor John and Pastor Kenny. 24:40 What an incredible opening to this final vision 24:43 that Daniel has here at the end of the Book of Daniel. 24:47 "Touched by an Angel," I love this passage. 24:51 We're gonna look at verses 10 through 19. 24:53 And we will see that Daniel is touched not once, 24:56 not twice, but three times, 25:00 then we will see with the consequences 25:02 or the results of that touch. 25:05 But first I just want to dovetail off 25:06 of what something Pastor Kenny said 25:08 very beautifully, stated very well, 25:11 about how Daniel had fallen prostrate 25:14 on the ground before the Lord Jesus Christ. 25:18 That was in Daniel 10:9, 25:19 we're just going to pick up there, 25:21 because that will indicate 25:23 what this first touch does for him. 25:26 Verse 9, "Yet heard I the voice of his words: 25:28 and when I heard the voice of his words, 25:29 was I in a deep sleep on my face, 25:32 with my face to the ground." 25:34 And as Pastor Kenny already brought out so beautifully, 25:37 many times in Scripture we see when people encounter 25:41 the Lord Jesus Christ, they fall prostrate, 25:45 like Saul turned Paul, like John in Revelation 1:17. 25:50 He fell at the feet of Jesus as one dead, 25:54 like the mob who arrested Jesus in John 18:6, 26:00 when Jesus said, I am he. 26:01 What does the Bible say? 26:02 They drew back and they fell to the ground. 26:05 Like the Israelites after the fire fell 26:09 with the first sacrifice done by Aaron and his sons. 26:12 In Leviticus 9, it says, 26:14 "Fire came out from before the Lord 26:16 and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar, 26:20 and when the people saw, 26:21 they shouted and fell on their faces. 26:25 After the defeat of Ai, Joshua 26:28 and the elders of Israel lay on their faces 26:31 before the Ark of the Lord until evening." 26:34 Remember, the pagan god Dagon of the Philistines? 26:37 He fell on his face before the Ark of the Covenant. 26:41 We know the showdown on Mount Carmel, 26:43 1 Kings 18 when the fire fell down from heaven, 26:48 and the people when they saw, 26:49 they fell on their faces and they shouted out the Lord, 26:53 He is God. 26:55 After the reading of the law and the book in Nehemiah, 26:58 Nehemiah 8, the people fell on their faces. 27:02 So we see this throughout Scripture 27:06 when we encounter divinity, 27:09 the presence of Jesus as Pastor Kenny talked about, 27:14 we fall on our faces in worship, in adoration, 27:18 in reverence, in submission. 27:21 Some of those people fell on their faces in fear 27:23 as in the mob who came against Jesus. 27:26 We fall on our faces. 27:27 So let's look at the touch 27:28 because we'll see Daniel is on his face, 27:30 and we'll see what the touch of the angel does to him. 27:34 So we're in verse 10. 27:35 We're going to read verses 10 through 14. 27:38 "Suddenly, a hand touched me, 27:40 which made me tremble on my knees, 27:42 and on the palms of my hands. 27:45 And he said to me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, 27:49 understand the words that I speak to you, 27:51 and stand upright: 27:53 for I have now been sent to you." 27:55 I want to pause just a moment at that word greatly beloved, 28:00 You know, Abraham was called a friend of God. 28:03 And I love this. Daniel is now an old man. 28:06 He has walked with Jesus his entire life, 28:10 and he is greatly beloved. 28:14 In the Hebrew it's actually one word, 28:15 we translated greatly beloved, but it is just one word. 28:20 Now, I want to look at this from 28:21 just a couple of different translations. 28:22 I love this. 28:24 NIV says, "Daniel, you who are highly esteemed." 28:27 New Living Translation, 28:29 "Daniel, you are very precious to God." 28:32 The English Standard Version, 28:34 "Oh, Daniel, man greatly loved." 28:38 The Christian Standard Bible, 28:39 "Daniel, you are a man treasured by God." 28:44 That is how God looked at Daniel 28:46 and that is how God looks at you greatly beloved. 28:51 So the first touch enables him to stand. 28:55 Let's finish verse 11. 28:58 "While he was speaking this word to me, 29:00 I stood trembling." 29:02 Now, he's still trembling, but it enabled him to stand. 29:06 Verses 12 through 14, we see words of comfort 29:10 and explanation given to him by the angel. 29:13 "Then he said to me, 'Do not fear, Daniel, 29:15 for from the first day that you set 29:17 your heart to understand, 29:19 and to humble yourself before your God." 29:21 That was the three weeks of fasting that 29:23 he had done that Pastor John talked about. 29:26 "From the first day you began to pray 29:28 and fast your words were heard, 29:31 and I have come because of your words. 29:35 But the prince of the kingdom 29:36 of Persia withstood me 21 days." 29:39 That's the three weeks of the prayer. 29:41 "And behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, 29:44 came to help me, for I had been left alone 29:46 there with the kings of Persia. 29:49 Now I have come to make you understand 29:51 what will happen to your people in the latter days, 29:53 for the vision refers to many days yet to come." 29:56 Now, we're not going to 29:57 really unpack verse 13 a great deal 29:59 because that's Ryan's and Shelley's day. 30:02 They have who is the identity of Michael, 30:05 and the kings of Persia? 30:06 But I just want to say here that 30:08 the angel was sent immediately 30:12 at the start of the prayer to answer, 30:14 but there was something that we call 30:15 the great controversy taking place behind the scenes. 30:20 Anytime as Christians, we bow before the Lord, 30:23 Satan is not pleased with that. 30:24 That's right. 30:26 And sometimes reinforcements have to come in to assist 30:30 and this time, 30:31 Jesus showed up again to help answer. 30:34 So we're not going to do all our lessons at the end, 30:36 I'm going to do three lessons based off 30:39 of each touch on Daniel. 30:42 So the three lessons from the first touch. 30:43 Number one, God hears your prayers. 30:46 It might not feel like it. 30:48 There might be a delay in answering your prayer. 30:51 Daniel had been praying and fasting for three weeks. 30:54 You might be doing that for weeks, 30:56 but from the first day that you set your heart 30:59 to understand and humble yourself before God, 31:02 God hears your prayers. 31:05 Number two, God will move heaven 31:07 and earth to answer your prayers. 31:11 We know that earthly forces and satanic forces 31:15 might be hindering your prayers, 31:16 but God hears and if need be, 31:18 He brings out all of heaven to answer your prayer. 31:23 That's right. 31:24 Number three, we never need to be afraid. 31:27 Remember the angel when he reached out 31:29 and touched Daniel, he said, "Do not fear Daniel." 31:32 Let's look at the second touch. 31:34 That's verses 15 through 17, 31:36 "When he had spoken such words to me, 31:38 I turned my face toward the ground 31:40 and became speechless. 31:42 And the sons of men touched my lips." 31:45 Now this touch is not on the shoulder or on the leg. 31:48 This is a touch on the mouth. 31:50 "Then I opened my mouth and spoke, 31:52 saying to him who stood before me, 31:55 'My Lord, because of the vision 31:56 my sorrows have overwhelmed me, 31:59 and I have retained no strength. 32:01 For how can the servant of my Lord 32:03 talk with you, my Lord? 32:05 As for me, no strength remains in me now, 32:08 nor is any breath left in me.'" 32:11 Now this reminds me of the touch that 32:13 Isaiah had in Isaiah 6 on his lips. 32:16 This was when he was called to prophetic ministry, 32:19 and they touched his lips, why? 32:21 Because his iniquity therefore was taken away 32:24 and his sin was purged. 32:26 It was a cleansing, 32:27 it was an equipping for ministry, 32:29 it enabled him to hear the call of God on his life, 32:32 because then God called to Isaiah, 32:34 "Who will go for us?" 32:36 And he said, "Here am I, send me." 32:39 Now this is at the close of Daniel's ministry, 32:42 and he's touched yet again. 32:44 And what does this touch enable him to do? 32:46 It enables him to speak. 32:48 The first touch enables him to stand. 32:51 The second touch enables him to speak 32:54 because we see what he spoke here. 32:56 Let's look at the three lessons from the second touch. 32:58 Be honest with God 33:00 and others about your struggles. 33:03 Daniel could have said thank you 33:05 and just left it at that. 33:06 But what did he say? My sorrows have overwhelmed me. 33:09 And it's okay to feel weak. 33:11 He said, "I have no strength left in me." 33:13 It's okay to feel sorrow 33:15 because he had great sorrow of heart. 33:17 Sometimes lesson two, 33:18 we can't always express 33:20 what's inside without a touch from God. 33:23 It takes a touch from God for us to express them. 33:27 And number three, 33:28 even godly people sometimes struggle. 33:31 Daniel was highly favored of God. 33:34 And yet at this time, no strength remained in him. 33:39 Finally, the third touch 33:40 is the next two verses 18 and 19. 33:43 "Then again, the one having the likeness of a man 33:45 touched me and strengthened me. 33:47 And he said, 33:49 'O man greatly beloved, fear not! 33:51 Peace be to you, be strong, yes, be strong!' 33:54 So when he spoke to me I was strengthened, and said, 33:57 'Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.'" 34:01 The first touch, he could stand. 34:02 The second touch, he could speak. 34:05 The third touch, he gained strength. 34:08 The lessons from the third touch. 34:10 God loves us. 34:13 God understands our weaknesses and how to help us. 34:17 God gives us strength when we need it most. 34:20 And He enables us to face the future with hope 34:24 because coming in Daniel 11 34:26 is more vision pertaining to what's coming in the future. 34:30 And God is strengthening Daniel 34:32 for the vision he's about to receive. 34:34 Amen. Praise the Lord. 34:36 That was great, Jill. Thank you for that nice set up. 34:38 I'm on Wednesdays lesson entitled "The Great Conflict." 34:43 This is where kind of the intensity is increased. 34:47 We're kind of in that great, 34:49 we're starting to hear the music 34:51 go from a lower dynamic to a higher dynamic. 34:54 We're crescendoing into these final events 34:57 in which basically Daniel is about to basically 35:00 receive the cap on everything that he's been learning 35:04 from Daniel 2 to Daniel 7, Daniel 8 and 9. 35:08 And so now here we are in Daniel Chapter 10. 35:10 He's having this incredible, amazing experience. 35:13 Now this particular messenger has showed up 35:16 which Jill brought out, 35:17 has touched Daniel has set him up right, 35:19 has touched his lips, 35:21 Daniel is able to communicate with him. 35:22 But there's a purpose and a reason 35:24 as to why this particular angelic figure has showed up. 35:27 And so what I want to do is 35:29 I want to begin reading in Daniel 10:20-21, 35:32 which are the last two chapters, 35:34 excuse me last two verses of Chapter 10. 35:37 And we're going to see that these two verses 35:39 are actually setting us up for the content 35:42 of Daniel Chapter 11, because we're going to see 35:44 a nice transition into that chapter. 35:47 And so Daniel 10:20-21. 35:50 The Bible says, "Then he said..." 35:52 And we'll know who this he is in just a few moments." 35:55 Then he said, 'Do you know why I have come to you? 35:58 And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia, 36:02 and when I have gone forth, 36:04 indeed the prince of Greece will come. 36:06 But I will tell you 36:07 what is noted in the Scripture of Truth." 36:10 And then, of course, 36:11 there's a parenthetical statement. 36:13 And you'll notice at the end of 21, 36:15 which is the last verse of this chapter, 36:17 we're probably going to cover this next week. 36:18 But you'll notice 36:20 there's a parenthetical statement that is open, 36:21 but it's not finished in verse 21. 36:23 And so that's going to, we're going to return 36:25 in verse 1 of Daniel Chapter 11. 36:27 But it's quite interesting. 36:29 He says, "Look, I've come, but I gotta tell you, 36:32 I got to go away again, because I've got to go fight 36:34 and battle with the prince of Persia." 36:37 And again, he says, 36:38 and then once the prince of Persia 36:39 is out of the picture, 36:41 then the king of Greece is going to show up, 36:43 and he says, but I will let you know. 36:45 I will let you know 36:46 what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. 36:49 So by the way, just to give you a heads up, 36:52 we know by inspiration that this angelic figure 36:55 that's talking to Daniel is that of Gabriel, 36:58 even though his name is not specifically mentioned, 37:00 I think it would be a responsible 37:03 to know that who's the person 37:04 that Daniel's been communicating with, 37:06 throughout the Book of Daniel. 37:07 Who keeps showing up to communicate with Daniel 37:10 is that of Gabriel, even though his name's 37:12 not specifically mentioned here. 37:14 I'll read a quote in just a few moments 37:15 by the Spirit of Prophecy, in which Ellen White 37:17 confirms this is indeed Gabriel who has touched Daniel, 37:21 and who has come to help him know the Scripture of Truth. 37:25 And so I want to note here though, 37:26 because we're now we're getting into kind of 37:30 the epicenter of this great controversy battle 37:34 between good and evil dealing with these countries, 37:38 these world powers, the succession of these nations 37:41 from Daniel's time all the way down 37:43 until the very last day and before Jesus comes. 37:46 And so what we're seeing is we're seeing 37:48 kind of another expansion, 37:50 we're repeating some information, 37:52 but again, that repeat and enlarge, 37:54 Gabriel is going to expand and he's going to give 37:56 some more information in regards to this transition 37:59 from Medo-Persia, Greece 38:01 and, of course, into the Roman Empire, 38:04 and what happens in the last days. 38:05 Now, I just want to mention here obviously, 38:08 he says that he's going to battle 38:11 and fight with the prince of Persia. 38:13 I mean, we have to be clear here. 38:16 Cyrus the man was no battle 38:19 for a heavenly figure like Gabriel. 38:22 Okay. 38:23 And so we know clearly that 38:25 the Scripture is indicating that there is a higher power 38:29 behind this prince of Persia, Cyrus. 38:32 And so I just want to make mention of that, 38:34 because we see that this is a spiritual battle. 38:37 This is the great controversy, the war behind the wars. 38:40 We know we live in a war. 38:41 We live in a world of wars, where, you know, 38:43 there's battles here and there, 38:45 they are the very physical in nature, 38:46 but even behind those wars, there is a war of the wars. 38:50 And, of course, we know that 38:51 this is a spiritual battle between heavenly authorities 38:54 and, of course, these fallen angels. 38:57 And so, just wanted to establish this point 39:00 because it shouldn't surprise us, 39:01 because Ephesians 6:12, as we all know, states, 39:05 "Therefore we do not wrestle against 39:07 flesh and blood, but against principalities, 39:09 against powers, 39:10 against the rulers of the darkness of this age, 39:13 against spiritual hosts of wickedness 39:16 in heavenly places." 39:19 And so even though we can't see them, 39:21 the devil is at work. 39:22 Even though we can't see Him, the Lord is at work. 39:24 His angels are fighting against the fallen angels, 39:27 and we just happen to be 39:28 caught up in the middle of this, 39:30 but hopefully we choose the right side, 39:31 hopefully we're on the side of the Lord. 39:33 This is most definitely 39:35 the great controversy on display 39:37 here in the closing verses of Daniel Chapter 10. 39:40 And we're going to see this great controversy 39:42 heighten as we get into the 11th Chapter next week. 39:45 That's right. 39:46 But I just, I just want to also, 39:48 just want to highlight and try to give some foundation 39:50 because, you know, many Christians you know, 39:53 they try to put the evil deeds in the things that happen. 39:57 You've heard the expression bad things happen 39:59 to good people. 40:00 And I like what pastor said one time to me, he said, 40:02 "That's assuming that there's good people." 40:06 Even Jesus said, there's no one good, 40:08 but God, but nonetheless, 40:10 you know, sometimes we put all of the bad deeds 40:12 and the bad things that happen even through 40:13 the course of history through biblical history, 40:15 we look to plug that on the Lord 40:17 and say that was God's fault. 40:19 He allowed and He's the one that caused it. 40:20 And that's simply not the case. 40:22 We see that the devil works through these human forces 40:26 and through these human agents 40:27 to try to counteract the plan of God. 40:29 And that's what we're seeing here. 40:31 Daniel is having a heavenly, a very revival like experience, 40:36 in which the Lord is bringing him 40:38 to higher places. 40:39 And the devil understands, wait a second, 40:41 I can't have Jerusalem going back 40:43 and rebuilding their temple 40:44 because this is the time of Cyrus. 40:46 Cyrus has given a decree, 40:48 the devil says, "No, I can't have that, 40:49 can't be having them worshiping the true God." 40:51 So he shows up and he tries to intervene 40:54 and cause a halt to God's plan 40:56 and we're going to get into that later, 40:57 but I want to provide some scriptural foundation 41:00 for this great controversy battle, 41:02 the great conflict of Scripture. 41:05 If you would read from Genesis Chapter 3 41:08 all the way to the end of the Bible, 41:09 the bulk of Scripture is this great conflict 41:14 between good and evil, between, 41:16 you know, the covenant of God and, of course, 41:18 the devil trying to destroy the seed 41:21 that is to confirm the covenant as we have seen. 41:24 But I want to just take us back 41:25 and just give us an example here in Ezekiel Chapter 28. 41:28 Because we see that the devil also works through 41:30 the king of Tyre. 41:32 And so notice what the Bible says in Ezekiel 28:1-2, 41:35 "The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, 41:38 'Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre.'" 41:40 And so when you see this setup already, 41:43 you think to yourself, okay, 41:44 so this is talking about a man, 41:46 the prince of Tyre, so an earthly human being, 41:48 but notice what it continues to say. 41:50 "Because your heart is lifted up, 41:52 and you say, 'I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, 41:57 in the midst of the seas,' you are a man, and not a god, 42:01 though you set your heart as the heart of god.'" 42:05 And so, what does this sound? 42:06 Does this remind us of a particular passage, 42:09 Isaiah Chapter 14, what is, it's describing Lucifer? 42:12 He says, for I have said in my... 42:14 "You have said in your heart, 'I will ascend into the heaven, 42:16 I would exalt my throne above the stars of God, 42:18 I will also sit up on the mount of the congregation 42:20 on the farthest sides of the north. 42:22 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, 42:23 I will be like the Most High.'" 42:26 So we clearly see that that while the king of Tyre 42:28 may have this in his heart, 42:30 it has been placed and influenced 42:32 there by a spirit behind this, 42:34 which, of course we know is Lucifer. 42:36 And by the way, you know that the Lord 42:37 is not addressing the king of Tyre on a human level 42:40 here in the sense that he's saying that this is him. 42:43 He's addressing Lucifer because when you go back 42:45 to Ezekiel 28, notice verses 12 through 15. 42:49 In the middle of that verse, 42:50 it says, "You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom, 42:54 and perfect in beauty." 42:55 But then notice, "You were in Eden." 42:57 There you go. 42:59 The king of Tyre wasn't in Eden. 43:01 You were in the garden of God, 43:02 he says, every precious stone was your covering. 43:04 Well, that's not the case in this man's case. 43:06 But there was a person who was in Eden, that serpent, 43:08 okay, of all the dragon, the devil. 43:10 And then notice verse 14 through 15, 43:12 you were perfect, excuse me, 43:14 "You were the anointed cherub who covers." 43:16 Now, we're talking about Lucifer. 43:17 "I established you the Lord says, 43:19 'You were on the holy mountain of God, 43:21 you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones, 43:23 you were perfect in all your ways to the day 43:25 you were created, 43:26 until inequity was found in you." 43:28 We see the devil working through these human agents, 43:32 and a lot of times 43:33 we want to put the thumb on them. 43:35 And that's not to take the excuse, 43:36 create an excuse for our actions and our choices. 43:38 But nonetheless, 43:39 we see that the devil is at work, 43:41 all throughout history, working through human agents. 43:44 I think of, you know, the great controversy battle 43:46 we see there in Jude, where Michael again, 43:48 Michael is contending for the body of Moses. 43:51 The devil shows them, you can't have him, 43:52 and Michael says shocking that is, he's Jesus, right? 43:56 Jesus. 43:57 So he ends up taking Moses and, of course, 44:00 I think of Pharaoh in Exodus 7:8-13, 44:03 we see a great controversy battle there. 44:05 Moses is trying to deliver the people of God. 44:07 And Moses throws his, 44:08 he's instructed to throw a staff down, 44:10 it turns into a serpent, 44:11 but the devil was able to work the same miracle. 44:13 we see a contention there, the great controversy. 44:16 I think of Saul in 1 Samuel 16:18 and 19 44:20 as Daniel was playing music for him, 44:21 he was full of an evil spirit. 44:24 He tried to murder David. 44:26 I think of Ahab and Jezebel trying to murder God's prophet. 44:30 Herod trying to take out baby Jesus and, of course, 44:33 Jesus having that contention with the demoniac 44:36 there in the Gadarene as He comes out. 44:39 You see this great controversy all through Scripture. 44:42 And as we prepare to go into Daniel Chapter 11, 44:45 we're going to see the height of this 44:47 as we continue forward, 44:48 but I'm gonna pass it on to Shelley 44:49 at this point of time. 44:51 You're on fire, Brother. 44:52 I had so much to say, but not enough time. 44:54 So go ahead. 44:55 You know, I love this chapter because we all engage 44:58 in spiritual warfare, 45:00 but we don't always recognize it. 45:01 But the way we, in which we engage 45:04 in spiritual warfare is to have that armor on, 45:06 to pray and who shows up? 45:08 A victorious Prince shows up. 45:11 I love, I just want to hit something on here. 45:14 When we're reading verses, as Kenny showed us, 45:17 verses 5 and 6, that's so obvious, 45:20 this is Jesus Christ, 45:23 who has appeared to him in vision. 45:26 But now when you get down to verse 10, 45:29 he's got his face on the ground. 45:31 He doesn't say, suddenly, his hand touches me. 45:36 He says, suddenly, a hand touches me. 45:39 So we see he's seen Jesus. 45:42 Now here comes, we assume it's Gabriel, 45:45 because Gabriel is always the one 45:47 that is sent to him to talk with him. 45:50 And I believe what, Kenny, what you were reading. 45:54 This is the victorious Prince who showed up. 46:00 Now let me explain. 46:03 This was something that I really had to study out 46:06 on my own to accept many years ago. 46:11 We're going to look at Isaiah 9:6. 46:15 I love this verse because there's so many grand titles 46:19 for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 46:21 Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a Child is born, 46:26 unto us a Son is given, 46:29 and the government will be upon His shoulders. 46:32 And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, 46:38 Mighty God, Everlasting Father, 46:43 well, that's interesting, and Prince of Peace. 46:48 These are titles for Jesus Christ. 46:52 Now the pre-incarnate Christ was also known 46:57 as the Angel of the Lord. 47:01 Most people think of angels 47:02 as being the little winged creatures, 47:05 the cherubim and the seraphim. 47:07 But what the word actually means is messenger 47:12 and it is used in the Bible to refer to men. 47:15 It's referred here to, where I'm going to show you 47:18 and almost all commentary scholars 47:21 agree with this, that the Angel of the Lord is Jesus Christ. 47:26 So let's look at Exodus Chapter 3, 47:29 and we'll begin with verse 2. 47:31 Exodus Chapter 3, beginning with verse 2. 47:35 This divine messenger, the Angel of the Lord shows up, 47:39 and it says, "And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him," 47:43 it's Moses, "in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. 47:47 So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, 47:51 but the bush was not consumed. 47:53 Then Moses said, 'I will now turn aside 47:56 and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.' 48:00 So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, 48:04 God called to him from the midst of the bush, 48:09 this Angel of the Lord and said, 'Moses, Moses!' 48:13 And Moses says, "Here I am.'" 48:16 Look at Judges Chapter 2. 48:18 I'm going to look at several references in Judges, 48:21 if I had time. 48:22 In Judges Chapter 2, it says, verse 1, 48:27 "Then the Angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, 48:31 and said: 'I led you up from Egypt.'" 48:35 We look in Exodus, we see the Angel of the Lord 48:37 is Jesus Christ, the Angel of the covenant, 48:40 the Messenger of the covenant. 48:43 "The Angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, 48:46 and said: 'I led you up from Egypt 48:49 and brought you to the land 48:50 of which I swore to your fathers." 48:52 Who did the swearing? God. 48:55 "The Angel of the Lord is saying, 48:57 I did this and he said, 48:59 and I said, 'I will never break My covenant with you.'" 49:03 So this, the Angel of the Lord 49:05 is Jesus Christ in Judges 6:21. 49:11 It says, "Then the Angel of the Lord 49:14 put out the end of the staff that was in His hand, 49:17 and touched the meat and the unleavened bread, 49:20 and fire rose out of the rock and consumed the meat 49:23 and the unleavened bread. 49:25 And the Angel of the Lord departed out of his sight." 49:30 This is Gideon. 49:31 Verse 22 says, "Now Gideon perceived that 49:36 He was the Angel, the Messenger, 49:40 Yahweh's Messenger, the Angel of the Lord. 49:44 So Gideon said, 'Alas, O Lord God! 49:48 For I have seen the Angel of the Lord face to face.' 49:51 Then the Lord said to him, 49:53 'Peace be with you, do not fear, 49:56 you shall not die.'" 49:58 So it's obvious, this was a theophany 50:03 is what Bible scholars call it when God in His Christ, 50:08 in His pre-incarnate form made Himself 50:11 a visible manifestation to man. 50:14 Now here's what's interesting. 50:17 I always thought Gabriel was an archangel. 50:20 I was brought up to believe that Gabriel was an archangel. 50:23 Did you know that the word archangel 50:24 is only used twice in the Bible, 50:27 and neither one of those referenced Gabriel. 50:30 Both times it is referring to Jesus Christ. 50:34 Angel means messenger, Arch means to be 50:38 the highest or the greatest. 50:40 Jesus is the highest and greatest messenger. 50:43 He is the captain of the host, the eternally divine Creator, 50:49 He is not a created being. 50:50 Let's look at 1 Thessalonians 4:16. 50:55 1 Thessalonians 4:16. 50:58 I'm going to read it from the NIV, 51:00 I prefer this, this particular verse. 51:03 And it says, "For the Lord Himself 51:05 will come down from heaven, with a loud command, 51:10 with the voice of the archangel." 51:15 He is the chief, the highest messenger. 51:18 He's going to come down 51:19 with as the captain of the host, 51:21 this archangel from God. 51:24 "And with the trumpet call of God, 51:26 and the dead in Christ will rise first." 51:29 This isn't a created winged creature 51:31 because they do not have the power to resurrect, 51:34 and the one who's coming down has the power to resurrect. 51:39 Jesus said in John 5:28, "Don't marvel at this, 51:42 because the hour is coming, 51:44 we all who are in their graves will hear my voice, 51:46 I'm gonna rise up 51:47 in the first resurrection to life 51:49 and some in the second resurrection of condemnation." 51:53 So we know that this archangel is Jesus Christ. 51:58 The second reference is in Jude 9. 52:02 There's only one chapter in Jude. 52:03 So it's Jude verse 9, 52:05 "When Christ is fighting with Satan, 52:09 and he resurrects Moses," verse 9 of Jude, 52:13 "Yet Michael, the archangel in contending with the devil, 52:17 when he disputed about the body of Moses 52:20 did not bring against him a reviling accusation, 52:25 but said, 'The Lord rebuke you.'" 52:27 Now someone will say, 52:29 "Well, why would Jesus say the Lord rebuke you. 52:31 Look at Zechariah Chapter 3, 52:33 when he's going with this with Joshua, same thing. 52:37 The Lord says, the Lord rebuke you. 52:41 So here this Michael 52:43 is another grand title for Jesus Christ. 52:48 It means, Michael means who is like God. 52:54 The Bible makes five references to Michael. 52:57 We've read one. 52:58 Let's look at Revelation 12:7, "War broke out in heaven..." 53:02 Revelation 12:7, "War broke out in heaven, 53:06 and Michael and his archangels fought with the dragon, 53:09 and the dragon and his angels fought." 53:12 Michael is the leader of the heavenly hosts. 53:14 He's the captain of the host, 53:16 talked about in Joshua Chapter 5. 53:18 He's mentioned three times in Daniel 53:21 and in all three references He is called a Prince, 53:24 Your Prince, the Great Prince, 53:26 just like Isaiah 9:6, the Prince of Peace. 53:29 The most prominent character in Daniel 53:32 is initially called the Son of Man, 53:34 but then Daniel 8:11, 53:36 He's called the Prince of the host. 53:38 Daniel 8:25, 53:39 He's called the Prince of princes. 53:42 Daniel 9:25, He's called Messiah the Prince. 53:47 How much clearer can it get? 53:49 So eventually we learned that this is Michael. 53:52 Daniel 10:13 says, 53:54 "The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me 21 days, 53:57 behold, Michael..." 53:59 Now here's what throws people off. 54:01 One of the chief princes. Hey, this word one is echad. 54:06 Just like when it says the Lord, 54:08 our God is one. 54:10 It is. 54:11 He is the compound unity is what echad means. 54:15 So he says, "He stood up to help me." 54:17 Daniel 10:21 says, 54:19 "No one helped me except Michael, 54:21 your Prince, the Prince of God's people." 54:24 And in Daniel 12:1, it says, 54:26 "At that time Michael shall stand up, 54:30 the great prince who stands 54:32 watch over the sons of your people, 54:34 there shall be a time of trouble, 54:36 such as never was, even to that time. 54:38 But at that time your people shall be delivered. 54:42 Everyone who is found written in the book." 54:46 And I just have to say this. 54:48 Many people know Matthew Henry, 54:50 he is a very famous commentator. 54:53 Listen to what he says on this verse. 54:56 He says, "Michael signifies who is like God 55:00 and His name with the title of the Great Prince 55:03 points out the Divine Savior, 55:06 Christ stood for the children of our people 55:08 in their stead as a sacrifice. 55:10 He bore the curse for them to bear it from them. 55:12 He stands for them and pleading for them 55:15 at the throne of grace. 55:16 Jesus is clearly Michael, 55:19 the One who always stands 55:21 in our place and for our defense. 55:22 Amen. Praise the Lord. 55:24 That's good. You guys are fired up. 55:26 That's good. 55:28 Whatever you did Ryan carried over to Shelley. 55:30 I think the break took place right after us. 55:34 No, you did a wonderful job. 55:36 We, as you can see, 55:37 we really enjoy each other's company. 55:39 And the study of Daniel has challenged us 55:42 as the next couple of weeks are going to really open for us 55:46 what I might refer to as a lot of prayer. 55:50 But before we close out this lesson, 55:52 I want to give each of our panelists 55:54 an opportunity to summarize 55:55 what the Lord puts on their heart. 55:56 Pastor Kenny? 55:58 I think I've gathered from this, 55:59 God's going to do marvelous things 56:00 for everybody who trust Him. 56:03 He's going to work a miracle 56:04 on each of our hearts in our life. 56:06 Faith is going to break down those barriers. 56:08 We move through those things. 56:09 He's going to help every one of His children 56:11 who desire that help and want that help. 56:13 And He's going to be there in the time of emergency. 56:16 When we need him, He's going to be there for us. 56:19 If he has to, He'll show up Himself. 56:21 Amen. That's right. 56:23 That's powerful. 56:24 Mine was on the Touch of the Angel, 56:26 and I think about the touch of an angel 56:29 or the touch of God throughout Scripture. 56:31 Jacob was touched and he turned to Israel. 56:33 Elijah was touched and he gained strength to go 56:36 into the wilderness. 56:37 Jesus touched the leper, and he was cleansed. 56:39 The woman with the issue of blood 56:40 reached out and touched Jesus. 56:42 So reach out and touch Jesus today. 56:44 Amen. Amen. 56:46 You know this is, what I'm going to say 56:47 is by no means an honor to the devil, 56:50 because he deserves no glory at all. 56:52 But we see the power of the devil, 56:55 when not even the Angel Gabriel 56:58 is able to defeat him or tend with him. 57:01 So that Michael the Archangel, Jesus shows up. 57:06 Right there in Daniel 10:13 57:07 that Michael shows up the Chief of the princess, 57:10 He came to help me. 57:11 I love that because even in our time today, 57:13 we are no match for the devil. 57:15 But if we submit to Jesus, 57:17 He's there to come help at anytime. 57:18 You know, what I'm thinking is that we know 57:21 He is our victorious Prince. 57:23 Jesus accomplished victory in the cosmic conflict 57:26 at the cross in Romans 8:37 says, 57:29 "Yet in all these things, 57:30 we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." 57:34 Praise God. Amen. 57:35 Well, Shelley, 57:37 I think that was a wonderful transition. 57:38 And now we're going to take that time to remind you, 57:41 as Daniel did 57:42 in the very beginning of our lesson. 57:43 In Daniel 10:12, I leave this with you, 57:46 speaking about the importance of prayer. 57:48 "Then he said to me, 57:50 'Do not fear Daniel for from the first day 57:53 that you set your heart to understand, 57:56 to humble yourself before your God, 57:58 your words were heard, and I have come 58:00 because of your words." 58:02 The Lord will come when you turn your words 58:04 towards Him. 58:05 May God bless you until we see you again 58:07 from North to South. 58:08 It's going to be a wonderful study. 58:09 See you then. |
