So lesson is the world of the 02:35 psalms. And before we go any further, we want to go to the 02:38 Lord in prayer. Ryan, would you pay for? 02:40 >> So then let's pray. 02:42 Her father in heaven, Lord, as we know, dive into a new 02:46 adventure, a study through the book of Psalms Lord. We Ask 02:48 that your leadership be with us. Your spirit be poured out 02:51 upon us and that all the work words that we say, everything 02:55 that's communicated here that goes out, Lord will bless us 02:58 and bless so many other people that each and every one of us 03:01 will be drawn to Jesus Christ from this incredible study. 03:04 So we give this time to you and we ask you, your will be done. 03:07 And Jesus. Holy name, Amen. 03:09 >> The Psalms explores the gamut of human emotion, 03:14 especially as it relates to God. The sums address, joy and 03:19 sadness, fear and frustration, repentance and forgiveness, 03:25 peace and anxiety, depression and praise. Everything comes 03:31 back to praise. We see that over and over again. Throughout 03:36 the book of Psalms. It was the him No. You could say for 03:39 ancient, Israel's worship can be spoken or sung in private or 03:46 in corporate worship. In fact, as we journey through the study 03:49 were discovered that there's musical and notations 03:52 throughout the some suggest they were mostly written to be 03:55 some in the context of worship. What I love about the Psalms 04:00 that explores the attributes of our God. He is King and judge. 04:06 He's creator and sustainer. He's read Emer and savior. 04:10 He's our healer in our ref. Huge and our shepherd. He has 04:14 great Tim powerful, an eternal and holy. 04:18 He is on the president everywhere at once. He is 04:21 omnipotent. All powerful. He is righteous and Justin 04:26 Faithful unforgiving. He is patient and merciful and 04:31 compassionate and loving our God is good, though. Here's a 04:37 quote from the lesson. It says the sums have served as the 04:40 prayer book and him book to Generations of Believers. 04:47 It's a collection of 150 songs. It's interesting both the 04:51 Hebrew and the SEP 2 agent contain 150 films, but they 04:55 know over them slightly different lane and most English 04:59 translations will follow the Hebrew numbering of the songs. 05:04 There's 2 ways that you can divide the Psalms as we study 05:07 throughout this quarter. The author of The Last Let me 05:10 mention her name. I'm not going to pronounce it right. Drago 05:13 Slava some trick. She's a PhD and Old Testament. She's the 05:17 managing editor of the Encyclopedia of 7th Day 05:20 Adventists at the General Conference. And she did a great 05:23 job with this lesson. She arranges our lessons thematic, 05:28 Ali. And we'll be looking at that. All the different types 05:31 of songs we have individual and corporate laments or prayers or 05:35 cries for help. There's individual and corporate 05:39 Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving or praise songs 05:43 we look at Himss honoring God is our creator hymns honoring 05:47 God is our King. We look at songs of trust and songs of 05:51 science. Royal sums in Pilgrim sums and Wisdom sums and Torah 05:57 psalms. 05:58 >> Penitential songs which would be seeking forgiveness of 06:02 God. It runs the home can and we're going to explore and 06:06 study that this quarter. Another way to divide the 06:09 Psalms the author. The quarterly does not do it, 06:12 but you can divide them into 5 votes which mirror the Torah or 06:16 the first 5 books of the Old Testament, 06:20 for instance, Psalms one to 41 with parallel with Genesis 06:25 sums. 42 to 72 with parallel with Exodus and you can go down 06:31 and see book 3 of the Psalms would parallel with Leviticus 06:34 book for with numbers and book 5 with Deuteronomy to me. 06:38 It's fascinating when we study there are so many ways. Thank 06:42 you can study the word of God that you can open up and see 06:45 that this week. We look at how to read the songs and let's 06:48 read or memory text. We are in Luke. 24 versus 44 45. This is 06:54 of course Jesus speaking to the disciples 06:57 and the upper room after the walk to him a U.S. with the 07:00 disciples, then E appears in the upper room and he says 07:03 these words loop. 24 44 45 and he said to them, these are the 07:07 words I spoke to you while I was still with you that all 07:11 things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of 07:13 Moses and the prophets and the psalms concerning me. And he 07:19 opened the understanding that they might comprehend the 07:22 scriptures. Now there are 3 main sections of the Hebrew 07:25 scriptures. We have the law, the profits and the writings 07:29 and of the writings, the most important or talked about are 07:33 pivotal work would be the psalms. So you can see Jesus 07:36 references that here. He says the law, the profits and the 07:40 songs 07:41 this week, we just look at what's the inspiration of the 07:45 Psalms and what's the purpose of the psalms in worship? 07:48 Who are the authors of the songs and what are the types of 07:51 songs, the poetry of the Somme, the emotion of the sums, 07:56 the prayers of the some of the most importantly, the God 07:59 centered nearness of the songs on Sunday. And my remaining 08:04 time, we're going to look at the sums, an ancient Israel's 08:08 war shop. And I want to submit few 7 purposes if we get 08:12 through them. All right. In front of the sums in worship 08:15 for number one or going to first chronicles term of Meta 08:19 first chronicles chapter 16. We're going to verse 7. 08:24 It starts out on that day. What day what is happening 08:27 here? The Ark has just been brought to Jerusalem and placed 08:33 in the midst of the tabernacle. On that day, David first 08:37 delivered this psalm into the hand of a staff and his 08:41 brethren to thank the Lord we see here. David is the author 08:46 of the Somme and actually they quote later from someone 0, 08:48 5, and you can read it in some. It's cold in the first 08:51 chronicle 16, but it's also some 105, 08:54 David deliver the Somme into the hand of a staff who is a 08:57 staff. He's one of the 3 leaders of the temple singers. 09:00 He's a singer in Israel. Ryan is right that we see the 09:03 songs connected with worship. We see music connected with 09:07 worship and music connected with the songs. If you jump 09:11 down diverse. 37 after this misquoted, it says he that 09:14 means David 09:16 last staff and his brothers there before the Ark of the 09:19 Covenant of the Lord to minister before the Ark 09:21 regularly as every day's work required. So what does that 09:26 mean? They were charged with music in the Temple worship and 09:31 it was Ed Daley. Experience takeaway. Number one. Music is 09:37 an integral part of worship. Yes. Make the sums up part of 09:43 your daily worship and facts. Someone 5, which is the sum 09:47 David deliver there in first Chronicle 16, some 1, 0, 09:50 5, 2, says saying to him, same praises to him. Talk of all his 09:56 wondrous works. Music is an integral part of worship. 10:00 Now for number 2, we go to Nehemiah 12 verse 8. 10:04 It says moreover, the leave EITs were and list their names. 10:08 I'm not going to read because I can't pronounce them. But what 10:11 did the Levi's do? They lead the Thanksgiving saw he and his 10:17 brother. Now, it's interesting to me, we think of the 10:19 restoration of Jerusalem. The rebuilding of the temple 10:23 Nehemiah rebuilt the walls, but they also release toward were 10:28 shot when we see the restoration of worship takeaway 10:32 number 2, Thanksgiving is an integral part of worship 10:37 because what did the Levi its lead? They lead them in 10:40 Thanksgiving. Psalms as heart of their worship. 10:46 Make thankfulness part of your worship. And if you're not sure 10:50 what you can even be thankful for, you can pray the sums back 10:54 to God. You can find one of those Thanksgiving songs and 10:58 you can pry it saying it back to God. Number 3 for this. 11:03 We're going to some 18 verse one, some 18 1. I will love 11:07 you. Oh, Lord, my strength. We see David's the author of 11:12 this song. It's the same. Saw mentioned in seconds a 11:15 mule. 22 and it talks about how David saying this. Someone got 11:19 delivered him from the hand of his enemies. And from Saul 11:24 takeaway, number 3, acknowledging God is our 11:27 sovereign and expressing love to him. It's an integral part 11:31 of worship. What a David say. I will love you o lord 11:36 sometimes in our worship or afraid to make emotion part of 11:40 worship. But we can acknowledge God is supreme and we can 11:44 express love to him and that is part of worship. 11:49 Number 4 were in some 30 versus one. How will extol you o Lord 11:55 for you have lifted me up. Have not let my phone's reign 11:58 over me. We see a similar concept in Psalm one. 45 verses 12:03 one to 3 outlook stole you. Oh, Lord, my God and Cain. 12:07 I will bless your name for ever and ever every day. I will 12:12 bless you and I will praise your name for ever and ever 12:15 take away. Number 4 praise is an integral part of worship. 12:21 You might say wait a minute to lead. Number 2 with 12:23 Thanksgiving is a part of worship. I believe the 12:26 Thanksgiving is thanking God for what he's done for us. 12:30 Praise is expressed scene who he is it safe to say inking 12:36 him. You could say that but for Hoey is not for what he's done 12:39 for us but for who he is and his greatness and his majesty 12:43 and his holiness and his goodness and his love moving 12:46 quickly. The next one. Number 5, some 86 verse one bow down 12:52 your hero. Lord, hear me for I am poor and needy. Takeaway 12:58 number 5, acknowledgement of our need is an integral part of 13:03 worship. That probably should have been number one because 13:06 when we come into God's presence, the first thing is to 13:09 recognize who we are and who God is and that we are Corin 13:14 sinful and needy and we need him. Number 6 is colossians 3 13:19 verse 16. Let the word of Christ welling you richly and 13:23 all wisdom teaching at admonishing one another and 13:26 sums and hymns and spiritual songs singing with Grace in 13:30 your hearts to the Lord. Take Away. 6 music is connected 13:34 with the word in worship. Did you notice that in that 13:38 scripture? The word of God is connected with music. So not 13:42 just his music, part of worship, but music in scripture 13:46 saying scripture songs back to God as part of your worship. 13:52 In number 7, prayer is connected with the sums in 13:58 worship. Spend time praying the sums back to God and it would 14:04 change and revolutionize your worship. 14:07 >> And many men. Thank you, Jill. Great opener. My name is 14:11 Ryan Day. I have Monday's lesson entitled Meet the 14:14 Psalmist and we're going kind of continue on the theme a 14:17 little bit of the same theme that Joe brought out. We're 14:20 going to go a little deeper into some other songs and look 14:24 at just the different elements of what we see and how we see 14:28 this on this opening up their hearts and sharing with us what 14:31 they're going through at that particular time. I want to 14:34 start. But with the lesson begins with its as King David, 14:36 whose name appears and the titles of most Psalms was 14:39 active in organizing the liturgy of Israel's worship. 14:43 He is called the sweets on this of Israel there in seconds, 14:46 Samuel Chapter 23 and verse one, the New Testament attest 14:50 to the Vidic authorship of various songs. And of course, 14:54 the Scripture brings out a Matthew. 22 in acts, Chapter 2 14:57 chapter? 34 35 acts for Romans for 6. We find a reference to 15:03 this. This truth. Numerous songs are composed by the 15:06 temple musicians as Joe brought out, who are also Levis, 15:10 for example, some 50 and of course, the lesson to show her 15:14 some 73 to 83 by a said, we do a little bit deeper research. 15:18 You'll find that many of these songs were actually written by 15:20 David. But for the purpose of putting them to music, which of 15:24 course the Bible does tested. It says a sum of a set many 15:27 times. It was written by David for a set to set to music. 15:31 For instance, 73 would be a great example. But then you go 15:34 and read some 42 some. 44 to 47, some 49 for some 84, 15:40 85 and some 88 by the sons of Cora as the listen brings out 15:44 here some 88 by Hayman or human. Have you say that the 15:49 eggs, right? 15:50 And some 89 by Ethan, the as right and of course, beyond 15:53 them. Solomon, of course, is responsible for writing some 15:56 72, someone, 27 and of course, Moses is a traditionally 16:00 attested to have written some chapter 90 as well, are somber, 16:04 some 90 as well. And so what we're going to do is when to 16:07 jump into some of the songs were going to the sums. We're 16:09 going to see just what the psalms reveal about the 16:12 experiences of these authors. And I love the book of Psalms. 16:16 I've read the book of Psalms over and over and over 16:18 throughout my life because it just brings it really shows you 16:21 that these were real men, the storeroom in going through real 16:25 things, point out their heart to God in ways that we can 16:28 relate to. And that's the wonderful thing about it. 16:30 For instance, you have some independents there in some. 16:33 25 verses one through 5. Some 25 verses one to 5. 16:36 Notice what it says here. This is to you, Lord. I lift up 16:39 my soul. Oh, my God. I trust in you. 16:43 >> Let me not be ashamed. Let not Mike enemies triumph 16:47 over me. You'll see this come up quite a bit. David, 16:50 especially writing in saying, Lord, Help Me overcome my 16:53 enemies. This week, David was a man of war. David was a a man 16:57 of God. He was a man after God's own heart in the enemy 17:00 through everything he could again see, you'll see this team 17:02 often rise up over and over a verse 3 of some. 25 says, 17:06 indeed, let no one who waits on you be ashamed. Let those be 17:11 ashamed. Who deal treacherously without calls. Show me your 17:14 ways or teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach 17:19 me for you are the God of my salvation on you. I wait all 17:24 the days. You can see David's dependents here. Just Lord 17:27 Lord, I'm depending on you. I'm waiting on you o Lord. 17:30 >> Of course, there are other songs will see deep soul 17:33 searching and spiritual examination that's brought 17:35 about through the sums confession and repentance and 17:38 of course, sums of thanks and praise, for instance, in some 17:41 75 and verse one here and also some 77 verse one. It says we 17:46 think we give thanks to God we give. Thanks for your wondrous 17:50 works to clear that your name is near that. Some 75 in verse 17:53 one. And of course, also some 71. 77. 0st 1, I cried out to 17:58 God with my voice to God with my voice he gave and gave it to 18:02 me. So again, understanding the got here is a Scotts listening 18:06 to us and they understood this. There are songs of lamenting 18:10 that we see some sun lamenting. Of course, there's many of 18:13 these. But the example given here in the in the in the study 18:16 of some 88 verses one through 3, some in the 8 verses one 18:20 through 3 says, Oh, lord, because of my salvation, 18:23 I have cried out. I have cried out day and night before you 18:27 let my prayer come before you in kind your ear to my cry for 18:31 my soul is full of troubles. And my life draws near to the 18:36 grave. And so we can relate to this endeavor. Some of those 18:40 times we just like Lord, please hear my prayer. I need you to 18:43 come through like you've never come through before. We since 18:46 the humanity of these authors, as they often are crying out in 18:50 the minting, of course, is Joe brought out. There are songs 18:53 that were meant for to be saying as songs or of course, 18:56 with singing, for instance, 89 in verse one makes it clear I 18:59 will scene of the mercies of the Lord forever with my mouth. 19:03 I will make known your faithfulness to all 19:06 generations. And so we see much in much of this, of course, 19:09 songs of love songs of longing. And of course, the one that 19:12 when it comes to my mind that I love even singing often this 19:15 song is based on it's the song as the Deer, which is based on 19:18 some chapter, 42 in verse one. And I love the words to it. 19:22 >> As the 2, you had to follow a lot of Soma so long with a to 19:29 Z, Whew. 19:32 >> Mama Hart says I and I alone to lose should see. I just love 19:38 that. Even though it's based off of that one takes there in 19:41 some 42 and verse one. It just really shows the authors along 19:46 in desire. Lord, I need you. I depend on you. I long and 19:50 then you're in for you each and every day. Some 84 versus one. 19:54 And 2, you get that same tone this deep along this yearning 19:57 for the Lord. How lovely is short tabernacle? The summit's 20:01 writes, Oh, Lord of hosts my Soul Longs. Yes. Even faints 20:07 for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh. Cry out 20:10 for the living. God. Have you ever experience that? I know I 20:14 find that often happening. The older I get the more 20:17 experienced, I get the more stuff you go through. You just 20:21 learn just how if you really are about life, you learn the 20:24 more you learn, the more you realize just how much little 20:27 you really know and how dependent and long you are for 20:31 the Lord to show up to lead and to guide you because ultimately 20:35 I don't trust myself, right? The more you grow in God, 20:37 you realize I don't trust me, Lord, I trust you take the will 20:40 of my life. You see these messages. You see this, this 20:43 powerful just she's just foreshadowing and beautiful. 20:49 Amazing message just burst forth from this on this as Uber 20:54 as you go through in scale over the sums, of course, it also 20:58 shows us on this, our but a reflection of the example of 21:02 the many people in the Bible that, 21:05 you know, went through some messed up situations and were 21:07 perfect ride. These were men who were striving for that 21:10 perfection in Christ that we're striving for to grow in 21:13 character and and and and and to be more like Jesus. But you 21:18 have a worse time and through some messed up stuff. And I 21:20 just made a note some notes here. I'm probably not going to 21:23 read all of these, but it's a reflection of the Somme us or 21:26 reflection of the other Bible riders and characters that we 21:28 find throughout the Bible. For instance, Abraham being too 21:31 old, Elijah was fearful and suicidal. Joseph was air going 21:34 abused job, went bankrupt. Moses was a murder and had a 21:38 speech problem. Gideon was afraid. Sampson was a 21:41 womanizer, a I was a prostitute. 21:43 >> You go through all these different people. But you see 21:45 that the Somme us were also men that needed the Lord. They also 21:49 had swept through some missteps situations and they certainly 21:53 need the Lord to come through for them as well. 21:55 >> Even in their weaknesses and in their trials and in their 21:58 tribulations. And so I just love that. And of course, 22:02 I wanted to in this particular lesson on one of my favorite 22:05 sums because the mini some this help remind us of our 22:09 brokenness in constant need to the safe. You're that's 22:11 ultimately what I get from this so much more than just that one 22:15 sentence that I just said. But when I scale through and I 22:17 read and survey the sums, it helps me to be reminded of my 22:21 constant need. And you know what I'm broke and I need to 22:24 fix. I need Christ to be that Potter has on the clay too many 22:28 to break me to mold me, to shape me into the character and 22:32 into the man he wants me to be. And I love some 23 and I'm sure 22:35 we're going to spend some time in that some at some point in 22:38 the future. But I just love the words here. The Lord is my 22:42 shepherd. David pouring his heart out. His need his 22:44 dependence upon God. I shall not want. He makes me lie down 22:49 in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters. 22:52 He restoreth my soul. He leads me in the paths of 22:57 righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though, I walk 23:01 through the valley of the shadow of death. I love that. 23:04 He says I will fear no evil like this. God has not given us 23:07 the spirit of fear. He says for you are with me, your rod and 23:11 your staff. They comfort me. You prepare a table before me 23:15 in the presence of my enemies. You you anoint my head with 23:20 oil. My cup runs over. God brings the abundance of 23:25 blessings even though we don't deserve it. Surely goodness and 23:28 mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. And I will do 23:33 well in the house of the Lord and I love how it is for ever 23:37 thus on. This reminds us each and every one of us each and 23:40 every one of them reminds us that quitting is not an option, 23:43 maybe even fold, even though these brothers went through 23:46 stuff, even though there were moments when it seems like they 23:49 were at their wits end. And you can just since the lament, 23:52 you could just since the pain and the sorrow that they're 23:54 dealing for, even in times when yes, they were literally 23:58 walking through the valley of the shadow of death. They 24:01 remind us I will through it all. Trust in you, Lord. 24:05 I will through at all do well in the house of the Lord, 24:08 not just today and quit tomorrow, not for a week and 24:11 then quit the next week, not for a few years and then give 24:13 it all up a few years down the road. But I will dwell in the 24:16 House of the Lord forever because quitting is not an 24:20 option. And so the song this remind us these beautiful, 24:23 beautiful songs, remind us that putting our hand in the hand of 24:25 the lord and allowing him to lead and still our lives 24:28 through whatever trials, difficulties tribulations 24:31 through the good and through the bad we trust in the Lord 24:34 because he knows what's best. 24:36 >> For us and I think you so much, Ryan, one incredible 24:39 study. How encouraging the study is going to be great. 24:43 We're going to take a quick break. We'll be right. 24:45 [MUSIC] 24:49 >> Ever wish you could study more deeply along with the 3 D 24:52 inside the school panel members. We're 25:23 going to pass it over to Tuesday in Pastor James 25:26 Rafferty. 25:27 >> Thank you, Joe. We are in Tuesday's lesson, which is 25:29 entitle a song for every season on Pastor James Rafferty. 25:33 And as you mentioned, the songs are not only the hymnal of the 25:37 Old Testament, but Christian believes in Pakistan use it as 25:40 such today. They will sing through the Psalms. In fact, 25:42 when I was over, they give me some years ago they would spend 25:45 2 or 3 hours singing the songs and then they give you about 25:48 maybe 20 minutes for us and self. The songs are powerful 25:51 because they really do is, as Ryan was saying, they really do 25:54 encourage us to remain faithful to God, who is the one who is 25:59 faithful to us, 26:01 the quarterly the tech springs out here. And that's how the 26:03 school less than the SA must make the believing community 26:06 aware of the full range of human experience. They 26:09 demonstrate the believes can worship God in every season in 26:13 life. And then we see the following. Number one, hymns 26:17 that magnify God for his majesty and power in creation. 26:21 His kingly rule, his judgment. His faithfulness, for example, 26:25 saw 24 verses one through 6. The Earth is the lord's and the 26:29 fullness. They're off the world. And they that dwell 26:33 therein for is founded upon the seas, established upon the 26:36 floods who shall ascending to the hill of Lord who she'll 26:38 stand in his holy place. He did has clean hands and a 26:41 pure heart who has not lifted up the soul and a vanity or 26:45 sworn deceitfully. He should receive the blessing from the 26:48 Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 26:52 This is the generation of them that seek him that seek thy 26:55 face shakeup, sila. We'll talk about seal here in just a 26:59 second. Number 2, Thanksgiving Psalms. The Psalms expressed 27:03 profound gratitude for God's abundant last scenes. 27:07 Read Psalm 107, for example. Begin with the first want to 27:10 give. Thanks unto the Lord for he is good for his mercy 27:13 endures forever. Let the redeem that the Lord say so someone 7 27:17 0st 2, he has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, however, 27:20 say that men would praise the Lord for his goodness for his 27:24 wonderful works to the children of men. 40 satisfies the 27:27 longing. So verse 9 in fills the hungry. So with goodness, 27:31 or how about verse? 15 old men would praise the Lord for his 27:34 goodness. And for his wonderful works, that children meant for 27:37 his broken the gates of brass and he's cut the bars of iron 27:40 in sunder or how about verse. 21, all that men would praise 27:44 the Lord for his goodness. And for his wonderful works to 27:46 the children of men to see some repetition here 27:50 and let them sacrifice the sacrifices a Thanksgiving and 27:53 declare his works with rejoicing. Thanksgiving to God 27:57 is a sacrifice that he delights to hear or how about first. 28:00 31, that men would praise the Lord for his goodness in for 28:03 his wonderful works that children men let them exalt 28:05 him. Also in the congregation of the people and praise him in 28:10 the assembly of the Elders, all about number 3 laments or 28:15 heartfelt Christ to God for Deliverance in trouble. This is 28:19 another characteristic of the Psalm Psalm 3, 3, 4, But thou 28:24 or Lord, oh, lord artists, she'll for me. My glory and the 28:27 lift off of my head. I cried unto The Lord is My Voice. 28:30 And you heard me out of his Holy Hill Sila or there's 28:35 wisdom songs, songs that provide practical guidelines 28:38 for righteous living like someone versus one in 2. 28:42 Blessed is the man 28:44 that walk is not in the council. The ungodly north 28:47 stands in the way of sinners nor sits in the seat of the 28:49 scornful, but his delight. He's in the law of the Lord. 28:53 And in this law, does he meditate day and night or some 28:57 30 to one of my favorite promises verse 8? I will 29:00 instruct the and teach the in the way that thou shall go. 29:03 I will guide the with mine. I'd be not as a horse. There is 29:06 a view that has no understanding whose mouth as he 29:08 held with a bit and bridal unless they come Iran to the or 29:12 some 33 verse 10. The Lord brings the council of the heave 29:17 into not he makes the devices of the people of non if at and 29:22 then there's Royal Psalms Royal Psalms that point to Christ who 29:26 is sovereign and deliver of God's people sums that we like 29:30 someone 16 verses one through 6. I love the Lord because he 29:33 has heard my voice and my supplications because he's 29:36 inclined. As you wrote to me, therefore, I will call upon him 29:39 as long as I live the SARS of death. Come past me, the pains 29:43 of h*** get hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow. Then I 29:47 called upon the name of the Lord. Oh, Lord, I beseech Thee 29:50 deliver my Soul. Gracious is the Lord and right as she our 29:55 God is merciful. 29:57 The Lord Preserves the Simple. I was brought low and he helped 30:00 me more. There's historical songs. Songs that recall Israel 30:04 Israel's past and and highlight faithfulness. It and Israel's 30:08 unfaithfulness to teach coming generations not repeat the 30:11 mistakes of their ancestors, but to put their trust in God 30:14 and to remain faithful to our covenant. God like Psalms 105, 30:18 and 106. Remember, his marvelous works works that he's 30:22 done. His wonders and the judgments of his mouth. You see 30:25 that reminisce service, the children of Jacob and his chose 30:28 my can read all of those songs. But we are encouraged to read 30:32 some 1, 0, 5, 1, 0, 6, once every week. Just remember God's 30:37 leading in past history of God's people because as we 30:41 remember how God has led in the past, we will have nothing to 30:44 fear for the future. And then this is just an additional one 30:47 by through. And there's angry songs this on the show us how 30:51 to process or anger with God, right? If you ever read the 30:55 psalms and wondered, why is David so angry some of the 30:57 time, right? Well, he's processing his process. The 30:59 Menninger, it's it's good to processor and with God, we 31:03 learn how to process or anger with got we learn how to 31:05 process anger responsibly so that hopefully won't process 31:09 anger irresponsibly some. 54 help me save me o God by thy 31:14 name. Judge me by my strength. That's the first thing that 31:17 David does in these angry songs as he asked God to help him and 31:21 he says hear my prayer verse 2, 0, God give you the words of my 31:25 mouth and then explains the situation for strange is 31:27 versed. 3 have risen up against me and oppressive sic my soul. 31:30 They have not said God before them and the whole God verse 4 31:35 God as my help for the Lord is with me with them that I hold 31:38 my saw and then he lets go. He lets it out. He let his 31:41 anger out first 5, he sure would even want to Miami's cut 31:45 them off a night truth, just just let him have it. Of 31:47 course, David actually doesn't do that specifically with saw 31:51 because he lets his anchor out to God and God 31:54 fills the void of that anger being released, that he fills 31:58 the void with his spirit with the holy spirit. That's what 32:00 God wants to do for each one of us. And when he does that, 32:02 then David in Psalm 54 for 6, 32:06 we praise God. I will freely sacrifice into the I will 32:08 praise thy name o Lord for it is good. David was just angry 32:12 and now he's praising God because let all of the anger 32:14 out and got us fill the void with this spirit Ver 7 for us 32:18 to live in the out of all my trouble. My 9, my eye has seen 32:22 his deliverance upon my enemies. And of course, this is 32:24 a face statement that David makes. Now the push of the 32:27 Psalms demonstrates distinctive power to capture the attentions 32:31 of the readers. And some of these predict devices are kind 32:34 of lost in translation, the Corley says, but we can still 32:37 see in our native language and appreciate many of them. 32:41 For example, 32:42 parallelism involves the combining of symmetrically 32:45 constructed words or phrases or thoughts. Parallelism helps in 32:49 understanding the meaning of the corresponding parts, 32:51 for instance, bless the Lord O My soul and all that is within 32:56 the bless this holy name in this perilous, my soul and all 33:00 that in with in mean, namely months. Whole Bean are the same 33:04 thing or against someone. 47 verse 11. The Lord takes 33:07 pleasure in them that fear him, comma, those that hoping his 33:11 mercy. So those that fear him is parallel to those that her 33:15 hoping his mercy, if you got is to hope in his mercy imagery, 33:19 for example, the use of figurative language to strongly 33:23 appeal to the readers physical senses. God is our refuge and 33:27 strength. And he's depicted as the shadow of wings. He's a 33:32 he's got his shadow of wings over a psalm 91. He did was in 33:36 a secret place of the most high, shall abide under the 33:37 shadow of the almighty. I would say of the Lord. He is my 33:40 refuge and my fortress or Maris which expresses the tally of a 33:45 pair of contrast. In part, I cried unto the Lord Day and 33:49 night. Those a contrast in parts day and night. But that's 33:52 the totality of the thought cried as Lloyd Day and night. 33:55 And then we have workplace which employed the sound of 33:58 words to make up on our highlight a special spiritual 34:01 message like in some 96 4, 5, The Hebrew word. Hello. He gods 34:05 and and he he idols creates a wordplay to convey the message 34:09 that the gods of the nation's only appeared to be low. 34:11 He gods but Mill your hello. He he idols and then this 34:16 contrasts teen opposite thoughts in the second line. 34:19 For example, someone for 6, the Lord knows the way of the 34:22 righteous, but the way the ungodly shall perish, you've 34:25 got the righteous and the ungodly contrast it. And then 34:28 this synthetic Portree thought complete in the second line. 34:31 The ungodly are not so but are like the chaff, which is driven 34:35 away by the wind. So you've got the second thought repeated to 34:39 to the the the thought completed in the second line. 34:44 And finally have the word see Lassila denotes a brief 34:48 interlude, either a call for a pause or reflection was 34:53 etcetera. 34:55 Either cause report pause or for selection on the messenger 34:58 or petit to a section of the saw a change maybe of musical 35:02 accompaniment say like, think about this and so many times 35:06 you go through the song's. David makes a point. The 35:08 profound point may be right in the middle of the Somme and 35:10 he's got us a lot. And that's calling us to just think about 35:14 applause upon that. And we used that same phrase many times, 35:18 not say a lot, but the same idea many times as we talk. 35:21 Think about that for a second. You know. Think about that, 35:24 right? And so the Psalms complete this dynamic, 35:29 powerful, beautiful 35:30 communication that got us encourage us to enter into when 35:34 we communicate with each other when we communicate with God 35:37 and men do. And thank you, Pastor James inspiring praise 35:41 the Lord. 35:42 Well, we are now on Wednesdays portion and my name is John. 35:45 Didn't see the title for Wednesday is inspired prayers. 35:49 As you read the songs, he will notice that there are many 35:52 prayers. 35:53 >> And you see that David is just pouring out his heart to 35:57 God talking to God, let him know what's inside his heart. 36:02 And the lesson points out, too. 36:04 See a few of these. Let's go to second Samuel Chapter. 23 verse 36:09 one 2 36:11 and we have there now. These are the last words of David. 36:16 The U.S. says David, the son of Jesse, the says the man raised 36:20 up on high the anointed about God of Jacob and the sweet 36:26 psalmist of Israel. 36:28 The spirit of the Lord spoke by me and his word was on my 36:34 tongue. So you see here that even 36:38 in the act of prayer, the Holy Spirit gets involved. And the 36:44 expressions that you see in the songs that our prayers are also 36:48 directed by the Holy Spirit. You know, when you approach 36:51 God, you're coming to him and you have a situation, you have 36:54 something going on. The Holy Spirit takes over even in your 36:59 prayer expression to God. And this is a marvelous thing 37:03 to understand. I'm going to 37:06 mentioned a few places where you see that the Holy Spirit is 37:12 involved here in the book of Acts. You see Peter come from 37:16 that the Holy Spirit spoke to David Psalms one 15 I saw I act 37:21 chapter one verse 15. And in those days, Peter stood up in 37:25 the midst of the disciples and said the number of names 37:28 together. We're about 120. He says men and brother in this 37:32 scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the holy goals 37:37 by the month of David Spake before concerning Judas, 37:41 which was guide to them. That to Jesus acts one 20 where 37:45 it is written in the book of Psalms, let his habitation be 37:48 desolate and let no man dwell therein and his bishopric let 37:52 another take. So you see 37:54 Peter confirming that the Holy Spirit's folk by his servant. 37:58 David, now want to take you to a Romans chapter 8 and that 38:03 lesson point outburst. 26 27. But I want to start in verse. 38:06 21 2 38:08 present the contacts and how this is presented here in a way 38:13 that could lead to to understand how the holy spirit 38:16 gets involved 38:18 verse. 21 Roman say 21, because the creation itself also will 38:23 be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious 38:27 liberty of the children of God. 38:30 For we know that the whole creation notice groans and 38:33 labor's would birth pangs together until now we are 38:38 supposed to notice and this is being brought up by Paul. 38:41 Now it says verse. 22, not only that, but we also who have the 38:47 first-fruits all disparate. Even we ourselves groan within 38:51 ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the reduction of 38:55 our body. But we were say that in this hope, but hope that is 38:59 seen is not hope for. Why does one still hope for what he 39:02 sees? 39:03 But if we hope 39:05 for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with 39:09 perseverance. 39:10 Now, notice first. 26 likewise, the spirit that is the Holy 39:15 Spirit also helps our weaknesses for we do not know 39:19 what we should pray for as we ought. 39:22 But the spirit himself makes intercession for us with 39:28 groaning with with groanings which cannot be ordered. 39:33 Can wreck your mind around that to understand that as you go to 39:37 the Lord in prayer and you humble yourself before him, 39:41 the Holy Spirit gets involved and takes your prayers to 39:45 heaven with groanings which cannot be ordered. This is a 39:48 marvelous thing to understand and it should draw was close to 39:52 the Lord to understand that the Holy Spirit is even taking a 39:54 person putting them in the language of heaven. 39:58 Beautiful, beautiful scripture. 40:00 Now, I want to let you know, and you should know that the 40:05 holy spirit gets more involved in our lives. Then we think I 40:10 remember a time that we received a phone call here at 3 40:12 of you in because I was working and pastoral ministry. Some 40:15 people are calling with different problems, 40:17 difficulties they're facing. 40:19 And though, you know, we're praying before the people 40:21 calling for prayer for the Holy spirit to use us. And this is 40:25 one time when this man present the situation, he says I'm 40:28 going to court tomorrow. 40:30 People have come against be unfairly. There they are 40:34 accusing me of something I have not done. And as he was 40:37 talking, I thought I'll share with him some. 46, God is our 40:41 refuge and strength of Preston helping time of trouble. 40:44 And I continue listening to him. And just when I thought 40:48 the time had come to share songs, 46, some 46 completely 40:52 left my mind. I couldn't even remember it. I said I'm trying 40:55 to remember this. The scriptures I wanted to share 40:58 with you and it was gone. It was gone and then well, 41:01 let's go to some. And I mentioned a psalm and I so I 41:04 don't know why that song is coming to my mind. I don't even 41:07 know what it says. Let's go look at it. 41:09 So we want to that's Tom and I was amazed 41:14 the Holy Spirit had the words in the song that specifically 41:19 address the situation he was going to. And I said, praise 41:22 the Lord. Look, this is the Holy Spirit led in this. 41:25 I told this person and this is what I believe you need. 41:28 Yes, you're right. He says. And then it was after that, 41:31 the psalm 46 came to mind. And I said, well, this is the 41:34 some that I originally wanted to talk to you. But the Holy 41:36 Spirit wanted to share this with this. We need to get we to 41:38 understand that the holy spirit gets involved in our lives and 41:41 in our prayers. Some 46, some 6 burst. 9 41:46 notice here. The expression that David saying that this is 41:51 a prayer. The Lord hath heard my supplication. The Lord will 41:55 receive my prayer and the Lord will receive your prayer. 41:59 Some 17 1 42:01 here. The right. Oh, lord attendant who might cry give 42:05 ear unto my prayer. 42:07 Some 39 12. Hear my prayer o lord and give ear onto my cry. 42:14 Some 54 42:16 first to hear my prayer o God give easier to the words of my 42:20 mouth. This sent to me Lord David is pouring out his heart. 42:25 Some 55 verse one, give ear to my prayer. God and I did not 42:30 die sell for my supplication. You see over and over again. 42:33 Many songs are really prayers. And this is something that I 42:37 want to encourage you to do. You don't know what you should 42:40 pray for, you know, the holy spirit that we don't even know 42:42 what we should pray for us. We as we we should. So if you 42:45 don't know what to see in your prayers, I encourage you to 42:48 look into the songs. We begin to write them down and see how 42:52 David is expressing himself. And you may say, well, I 42:55 identify with that. 42:57 I think how pretty that and you can pray this back to the Lord 43:01 just as David was doing, but apply to your situation. 43:04 Your experience 43:07 from the lesson we have these words, the Saugus 43:10 address got personally personally as my God. Oh, 43:16 Lord and Mike King Psalm 5 to Psalm. 84 3 are examples. 43:22 The psalmist often implore got to get year. 43:26 Some 5, 1, is an example. Hear my prayer. Some 39 12. 43:30 Also they say, look, law, you look at my situation, look at 43:33 what I'm going through 43:35 some 25 18. And then of course, there is the answer may be 43:39 hard. Answer me Psalm 102 verse 2 and the liver me Psalm 6, 43:45 4, And the lesson says these are clearly the expressions of 43:49 someone praying to God 43:52 who does not want their prayers to be. And so when they go 43:55 before the Lord, this is your your your desire. You eagerly 43:59 want to see the Lord work out a miracle in your life. 44:04 The lesson brings out the Jesus to quoted from the songs such 44:07 as in Luke Chapter 20 verse. 42 43 44:11 and this is when he quoted directly from Psalms 110 verse 44:15 one. I look now at live 20 verse. 42 43, this is Jesus 44:20 speaking. He says now they've it himself. Said in the book of 44:24 Psalms, the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand till 44:29 I make your enemy is your foot stool. 44:32 Therefore, David, causing Lord, how is he then his son? So you 44:36 see this quoting of some 110 verse one, you can look that up 44:43 at another time. 44:44 But you will notice also that the psalms also expressed that 44:50 feelings of Jesus is such a psalm. 22 verse one, my God, 44:57 Oh, my God. Why hast thou forsaken me? 45:00 Why are they so far from helping me? And from the words 45:04 of my rolling 45:05 and is it is as if David was given a preview of what Jesus 45:11 was going to go through and is to is that 45:13 these can be said that it was not David saying these things. 45:17 It was Jesus 45:18 through the Holy Spirit in pressing David to write these 45:22 things. Remember 45:23 these things I have said unto you that when they come to 45:26 pass, you may believe so. As Jesus said, these things 45:30 they remembered. Hey, this is written in the scriptures, 45:33 some 69% in 9. I'm become a stranger into my brother and 45:37 and the Navy and onto my brother. My mother's children 45:40 for the zeal of their house have to eat me up and the 45:43 reproaches so than the reproach. The we are following 45:46 up on me notice also hear some 69. 21. They gave me also 45:51 golfer my meat and my Thursday gave me vinegar to drink. 45:55 Jesus identifies himself 45:57 in the songs as well. 45:59 >> Thank you all each and every one. I'm sure like when I have 46:03 Thursday Sluss and we're looking at the who the what the 46:07 why the where the how I've got to wear with Thursday's lesson 46:14 is the world of the Psalms. We're going to look into 46:21 the purpose of the songs and the World Bank and it did at 46:25 the time. 46:26 What place 46:29 just God occupy in this almost life. 46:34 And then I'm going to ask you, 46:36 we need to check our own polls and see what place does God act 46:43 to fight in our lots. Let's look at 6 samples that will 46:50 show us. God is the center of the Somos live 46:57 some 16 8. I have set the Lord always before me 47:04 and then resold 47:05 because he said my right hand. I shall not be the move. 47:12 Some 46, one, 47:14 God is our refuge and strength. A very present help in times of 47:22 trouble. Do you see him instead some 57 too 47:28 5 of this? I will cry out to God, most high 47:35 to God who performs all things for me. 47:40 Psalm 47:42 60 to 8 47:45 trusted him 47:48 just occasionally 47:51 just 47:52 in the morning. 47:53 >> Trust in him at all times. Shoot people pour out your 47:58 heart 48:00 before him. 48:02 >> Got us refuge for us. Say lot. 48:07 Do you pour your heart out to call this the center of your 48:12 life, 48:14 someone? 21 7, 48:16 the Lord shoppers serve you from. 48:19 >> All he will. He shall preserve here. So. 48:23 >> When you're living in the secret place of the most high, 48:27 God would haste the center of your life. That's what happens. 48:31 Here's one of my favorites. 48:33 Psalm one, 38 8. 48:37 I love this. 48:38 The Lord will perfect that which 48:43 >> concerns. 48:45 >> Can you imagine that's God's plan. God will perfect that 48:50 which can search you and him to state breaks out in praise your 48:55 Marcy own lowered. Your has said you're loving kindness, 48:58 your company to pay for this Nord 49:02 its doors for ever. 49:04 So the interesting thing here, 49:08 we look at the song's thus almost all relies 49:13 here step no matter where they might be 49:17 and he responds is perfect time. He is the ever-present 49:23 never fade. Like got 49:25 here's what the court leases, the world of the Psalms is 49:30 wholly got centered. It seeks to submit in prayer in praise. 49:36 All life experiences to got got is the sovereign creator, 49:40 the king and the judge of all the Earth. He provides all 49:44 things for his children. Therefore, he's to be trusted 49:48 at all. Times cars got was the center of the psalmist life and 49:54 the people fly back to guess what? 49:57 What a ship 49:59 with central to their lives. If God is the center of our 50:03 lives, worship should be central to our lives that we 50:07 keep the 7 critics ample spare some 44 per se in God we post 50:13 all day long and praise your name for ever. So 47 f one 7, 50:21 something I'm doing a lot lately without realizing it. 50:25 >> Clap your hands. All U Peoples. 50:28 >> Shout to God with the foist triumph. For guidance that 50:32 heating up the Earth's sing praises to ham with 50:36 understanding.
