But before we dive into 03:11 our weekly study, let's go ahead. I'm going to show if you 03:14 would pray for us enough to think you. 03:17 >> Heavenly father, we call upon you as the god of our 03:21 righteousness. We thank you, Lord, that you have shown us 03:25 your path of life and we find fullness, joy in your presence 03:30 as we speak, nor did the assess of us. Fill us with your holy 03:36 spirit. And may we and everyone who hears your voice the list 03:43 by your Spirit Sr teacher. We keep you all the praise and 03:47 glory in Christ. We pray. 03:50 >> Man and pretty sky 03:53 and you give them your host Ryan Day and I would actually 03:56 start with a 7th afternoons lesson. Always love reading 7th 04:00 afternoons lesson because it helps just kind of as a kick 04:02 started to get us going for what we're going to be studying 04:05 that week. And the lesson brings out that a brief, 04:08 a belief that only spontaneous unlearned prayer is a real 04:13 prayer appears to be prevalent among Christians. However, 04:17 Jesus disciples were immensely rewarded when they asked Jesus 04:21 to teach them to pray. God placed a prayer book, the songs 04:26 at the Heart of the Bible, not simply to show us how God's 04:29 people of ancient times prayed, but also to teach us how to how 04:33 we can pray. Even today from the earliest ages, the songs 04:37 have shaped the prayers of God's people, including Jesus 04:40 prayers. We see this first chronicle, 16 79 you my 12 8, 04:44 Matthew, 27. 46 Ephesians 5.19, and so many others. And it goes 04:49 on to say this week we will look at the role of the Psalms 04:51 played in helping God's people traversed their life journey 04:54 and grow in their relationship with God. We should remember 04:58 that the songs are prayers and as such are invaluable, not 05:02 only for their theological inside, but also for the ways 05:05 they can enrich and transform our individual and communal 05:09 prayers, praying the songs has helped many believers establish 05:13 and maintain regular and fulfilling prayer lives. 05:16 And I can absolutely a test of this because I found myself on 05:19 any occasion praying one of the songs because I couldn't find 05:23 us. The scripture says sometimes we can't find those 05:25 words. We know not how we ought to pray. And you know how the 05:28 Bible says in Romans, chapter 8 of the Holy Spirit makes 05:31 intercession for us. Some of the Holy Spirit will place a 05:34 sum up on your heart and say pray that that's what you need 05:36 at this time. And so we're going to learn about that this 05:39 week. I want to jump into Sunday's lesson entitled 05:41 fostering the use of the songs in prayer. And of course, 05:45 the lesson ask us what is the place of the songs of the 05:47 believers worship experience and we're going to run into 05:51 someone 5 and verse 5 usually see prayer, praise and 05:55 acknowledgement as you're praying. The psalms it is 05:58 important to acknowledge got in praise. That's why when I pray 06:02 I have learned as we see example in the psalms and also 06:05 in other parts of scripture as well. We find incredible 06:08 examples of God, God's people. He's he's he's authors his 06:12 profits, his servants. They always usually many times begin 06:17 with acknowledging got him praise and uplifting his name 06:20 and acknowledging him. So some chapter 105, and verse 5. 06:24 This is remember his marvelous works, which he has done his 06:28 wonders and the judgments of his mouth. That helps us to 06:32 remember that God as creator, he has established all things 06:35 were not here unless it is for him. And so there are times 06:38 even in my own personal product to just stop and pause and say 06:40 God, thank you for creating me. Thank you for being the 06:44 creator. God that you are for. There is nothing without you. 06:48 And that's just a wonderful way of just, you know, just kick 06:51 starting the prayer and acknowledging Dodge Creative 06:53 power. And of course, the Somme helps remind us of who we are 06:57 dealing with and who we are serving because we're all on a 07:01 journey of discovery right in learning who God is. And the 07:03 songs actually often help us to discover who it is that we're 07:07 actually in relationship with and we're dealing with in these 07:10 in these days. So some chapter one, 45 we're going to read 07:13 verses one through 9, 1, 45 verses one through 9. And I 07:17 love these words, as he says here I will extol you. I got 07:21 king and I will bless your name for ever and ever every day. 07:25 I will bless you and I will praise your name for ever and 07:28 ever greatest. The Lord and great to be praised and his 07:31 greatness is unsearchable and love that his greatness is 07:36 Unsearchable. One generation shall praise. Your works to 07:40 another and shall declare your mighty acts. First 5, I will 07:44 meet meditate on the glorious splendor of your majesty and on 07:49 your wondrous works. Men shall speak of the might of your 07:52 awesome acts and I will declare your greatness. They show honor 07:56 the memory of your great goodness and shell seeing all 08:00 of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and full of 08:03 compassion. Slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is 08:08 good to all. And his tender mercies are all over. His 08:12 works. My goodness. It's almost poetic. It's just it's 08:14 powerful. When you when you meditate on God's greatness, 08:18 you often find will find yourself as you grow in the 08:20 Lord. And as you find yourself in prayer, you'll pray those 08:23 prays. Lord, you are so good. I mean, I can't speak is great 08:26 and poetically as this miss here. And that's just not my 08:30 gift. I don't have necessarily a gift of words. But in my own 08:33 way, I praise God often in my prayers. Got thank you for your 08:36 goodness. Thank you for your mercy. Thank you for your 08:38 creative power. Thank you for intervening in my life. Thank 08:41 you for the glory of Your majesty and all that you have 08:44 bestowed upon mankind. Those praises those worship Allah 08:47 acknowledging his goodness and his majesty that it should be 08:51 and often Corp are incorporated in our prayers. 08:55 The lesson study also, Ali, just to colossians chapter 3 08:59 verse 16 to highlight the fact that the sums in praying the 09:03 psalms actually help incorporate those words. 09:06 Those powerful life changing words to take root in us and to 09:11 be with in U.S. notice cautions chapter 3 verse 16, it says let 09:15 the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. I love 09:20 that. It does us no good to just read the Bible it and not 09:24 memorize or not allow it to take root in our life. And so 09:27 the sums are powerful in that way that if you read them, 09:30 not just read them, but pray them as often as you pray them 09:33 as often as you mean, the most often as you come back and 09:36 read, reintroduce yourself to these powerful words, they are 09:39 taking root in you. And of course, bringing about wisdom 09:43 goes on to say teaching and in on issue one, another in psalms 09:46 and hymns and spiritual songs singing with Grace in your 09:49 heart to the Lord. And of course, a couple that with 09:53 someone 19 verse 11 because, of course, we know that the text 09:56 very well. Your word have I hidden in my heart that I might 10:00 not sinned against you when we pray the sums and we 10:03 incorporate the psalms even are prayer. Our daily prayer lives. 10:07 Again, we're allowing the word of God to take foundation in 10:10 our hearts and minds so that we may never forget it. And of 10:13 course, it is transformative in nature. The more you have the 10:16 word of God in you, the more you meditate on of the more you 10:19 reflect on the more you pray it, of course, it will take 10:22 root in your life and it will help you overcome a multitude 10:25 of sins as the scripture brings out here. And I love James 10:28 Chapter 5 verse 13. I love this right here because this is is 10:32 anyone among you suffering let him pray. But then oftentimes 10:37 one of the best ways to pray is often to Santa that says if 10:40 anyone is cheerful, let him seeing Psalms. I have some 10:44 ourselves is singing a prayer. In fact, give an example here. 10:48 Some 51 is a prayer I create in me. 10:52 >> Clean to. 10:55 >> And remove all right. Spirit within me. 11:00 >> I find myself singing that sometimes when I find maybe 11:04 maybe I'm having a tough day, maybe I'm maybe have been 11:07 through some stuff. And I thought, Lord, I need you to 11:09 cleanse me. I need you to come into my wolf. I must have seen 11:12 some. Of course, there's one that I learned recently. 11:14 Some 64, which you don't often hear people quote, the song, 11:18 the song 6.64, 0st 1, 2, And I love of the person who put 11:23 music to this because it says Hue Mai Oval. 11:28 >> So cut us. 11:31 >> My Pruitt Preez. 11:36 >> From fever, the he then goes on to say verse 2. 11:42 >> I to me from the sea with calm so long even though we did 11:49 for us. 11:50 >> So would cause he knew equipped. He I love that. 11:55 If you seen the psalms, you're praying the songs they are 12:00 taking deeper into your life. And that's what this lesson all 12:03 this week is bringing out the power of prayer learning. 12:06 How has the less brings out fostering the use of Psalms in 12:10 prayer is up powerful thing. Now in my early journey, 12:13 I didn't really understand this and I couldn't and quite 12:16 understand why it's important for us to a corporate the 12:19 psalms in this way, in our prayer life, in meditation, 12:21 in singing and of course, proclamation. But it certainly 12:24 helps tremendously of the less brings out a few points here. 12:27 I just want to end with the time that I have here of just 12:30 highlighting a few points that the in and how we incorporate 12:33 it in a prayerful in our life. So reading pray some to 12:36 correspond to your present situation, whatever it happens 12:39 to be. There are songs of the Mitt Psalms of Communal lament 12:42 and Thanksgiving sums of him or psalms hymns. Potential sums 12:46 the wisdom songs seeking God's wisdom and guidance, historical 12:50 some some containing anger and rage and pilgrimage songs as 12:53 well. So there's all types of different sums there that you 12:56 can incorporate in your prayer life, read the psalms, engaging 12:59 in simple reflection and then pray ruminating over the sums 13:03 involved reflection on the various aspects of the saw. 13:06 The way this this address is God. And of course, the reasons 13:09 for the prayer itself. Number 3 here, consider how your 13:12 situation corresponds to the sum this experience and how the 13:16 song might be able to help you articulate your experience. 13:20 Number 4, if something in the some challenges you ponder, 13:24 for example, whether the some correction present false hopes 13:27 about something you are facing. Number 5 contemplate the sums 13:31 message in the light of Christ person and solve it. The work 13:35 and the long-term hope Christ work offers us. We should 13:39 always look at everything in the Bible in the light of 13:42 Christ and the cross. We see this team all the way through 13:45 the sums. By the way, number 6, look for new motives for prayer 13:49 that the Somme supplies and think about their importance 13:52 for you and for your church and of course, for the world. 13:55 And then lastly, here are point number 7, if the Somme 13:58 corresponds to the situation of someone, you know, intercede in 14:03 prayer for that person, these are ways that we can foster the 14:06 sums in our prayer and our prayers on a daily basis. 14:10 >> Thank you for saying I won't sing my song. Haha. I'm showing 14:15 Crandon. Have Monday's less and trust in times of trouble. 14:20 The point of what ship is to express your heart and your 14:26 feelings openly to God and prayer. And, you know, I find 14:33 that many Christians. I think it is faithless. If they are a 14:37 complaint to the Lord, our 8th day under a complaint to 14:42 someone else, I know people who are saying will you ask what's 14:45 going on? This is what's going on and in the hope that it's 14:49 OK, it's OK, that's OK, that's bad. And the beautiful thing is 14:56 that 14:57 sometimes there is innocent suffering in this world. 15:02 That's right. And caught understands one point prayed to 15:06 him about it. The song supplement we're right back to 15:11 find inspiration in sometimes there for the benefit up a 15:16 stall. But they show what it's like to feel. Confusion and 15:20 despair, right? Haven't been there before. We're going to 15:23 reach some 44 today because this is relevant to all age is. 15:28 But I have to say this 15:31 what this song is going to show us. It's not to in validate our 15:36 own feelings by going. Oh, it's OK, sometimes it's not okay. 15:41 And I'm gonna get in the hobby Horse for just a second. 15:44 People will say, oh, God will put on us more than we can 15:48 bear. That is not what scripture says. Scripture says 15:52 he will not tempt us beyond what we can handle. But listen 15:56 to second Corinthians, 1, 8, 9, from Paul good. Had he says 16:01 brothers. We did not want you to be ignorant of our trouble, 16:04 which we came to us in Asia. 16:07 >> That we were burdened beyond measure beyond measure Bob of 16:12 strength so that we despaired of law, Keith, yes, we have the 16:19 Senate's of death in ourselves that we should. Here's the 16:24 purpose statement that we should not trust in ourselves, 16:28 but in God who raises the dead. So so there's times that things 16:35 are beyond measure but got doing it for purpose. He's 16:39 trying to escape routes for 16, says he's inviting us to come 16:44 bully before his throne of grace that we might find mercy 16:48 and grace in the time of need. 16:51 Don't censure 16:53 your experience. Don't sit here and deny it. Are you going to 16:58 remain in bond age to your emotions? What prayer is prayer 17:05 is where our heart meets with God's heart. So let's look at 17:09 some. 44, its U.S. all a faith and a psalm of sorrow. Israel's 17:16 experiencing a dissed her defeat on the battlefield. 17:20 And this records, the experiences that they're 17:25 confused by their suffering. They're there and despair, 17:28 song, 40 force divided into 3 parts. Note, this first day 17:33 focuses on what got us 10 in the past. Then the confusion on 17:38 what he's doing are not doing currently. And then it focuses 17:44 on future redid shun. So thus almost begins with praise. 17:50 He's going to acknowledge God's divine grace and intervention 17:55 in Israel's paths to give him victory over enemy some. 17:59 44 for spy did he says through you, we will push down our 18:06 enemies through your name. We will trample. The is rise in 18:14 status. This express trust. You've got a lot. So he started 18:20 off with all this praise. Talk about what God is spending 18:23 the past. He changes midstream. 18:26 Now he's got a bit her complaint. He's expressing his 18:31 confusion 18:32 and he concludes, as we do so and in our humanity, it's God's 18:38 not doing everything in our to our timetable. He concludes 18:43 that got his band in Israel because they were so easily to. 18:47 He said it. This contrasts to got former pick, trace. So he's 18:52 confused and he says basically, hey, is true, sincere. We fall. 18:59 We knew Lord we have reached out to. I don't. 19:04 Here's the thing that we've got to remember, 19:08 even though 19:10 there are times that we have forsaken 19:13 got Kevin, when our spiritual cause like Israel, they were 19:17 actually walking in faithfulness, 19:20 still allows things to happen in our lives. 19:26 And we're going to look at some. 44, this is from the 19:29 quarterly 19:30 can help from worshipers articulate their experience up 19:36 innocent suffering frequently inadequately playing songs 19:40 helps people experience freedom of speech in prayer. Yeah, 19:45 it says that precious freedom of Church beach in prayer. 19:49 The sops give us words that 19:52 we can net meter fine 19:55 nor dared to speak some of the times I read this. I remember 20:00 when I first started reading the songs decades ago and I 20:04 think, wow, I can't believe he said that. 20:09 Here's here's what 20:11 Salt. 44 18 says, our heart. He's not turn back, nor have 20:17 our steps be parted from your way, Mort. 20:21 But you have severely brokenness and the place of 20:25 jackals. And you've covered us with the shadow of yeah. 20:31 How can somebody of face say that? Listen to some Ford. 20:35 44, 22, 20:37 for your sake. We are killed all day long. We are counted as 20:43 sheep for the slaughter. 20:46 Israel wasn't suffering because safety circuit got it. They 20:52 were suffering because they were following guide. You ask 20:56 anyone here? 20:58 I miss panel. Yes. Getting one who should full-time ministry. 21:02 And I'll tell you what the death of Scott assignments 21:05 against us has any. His wicket followers hate the right. 21:10 Does he hate the opposition could be strong. And so we ask 21:16 God's people in your affliction today just to stay fit. But 21:21 here's what I love about Psalm. 44, 22, 21:26 we're going to read to you from Romans Day. 35 39 Kuz Paul is 21:31 quoting Psalm. 44 22, it's a direct quote. He says that who 21:37 shall separate us from the love of Christ Chuck Tribulation or 21:41 distress or persecution or famine or Nick and is or peril 21:45 or sword as it is written. Here's his quote some. 44 22, 21:50 for your sake, we are killed all the day long. We're counted 21:56 as sheep for the slaughter. But now listen to Paul. 22:01 Get all these things. We're more than conquerors 22:06 through him who left us 22:10 should broken say 38. He says I am persuaded neither death nor 22:14 life Angels principalities powers were present. Things are 22:19 things to cap, not hype, not death nor any other created 22:23 thing case. Not going to leave anything out of this list. 22:27 She'll be able to separate us from the love of God, which is 22:31 in Christ Jesus our North. So 22:33 Paul spraying some. 44, 22 right here. 22:37 But the beautiful thing now we've gotten from pricing guide 22:42 for the past to the bitter complaint in the middle us look 22:46 at some. 44 23, because now 22:50 the psalmist is challenging the reality of God. So loved the 22:55 and he cries out and pay for that future deliverance from 22:58 enemies. Some 44 burst, 23 awake. Why do you sleep Board? 23:07 Rise. Do not cast off for ever. First of all, have to tell you 23:12 they knew someone. 21 verse forces. God never slumbers. 23:16 Recently they want 23:18 this was a poetic way of trying to get constitute should thank 23:22 you. He wasn't asleep. 23:24 Hey, they he just was calling upon God to act first. 24, 23:29 why do you hide your face? And forget our affliction and 23:34 our oppression 23:36 for our soul is bow down to the desk. Our body cleans to the 23:42 ground. 23:44 Here's what please hear me. There are times 23:49 we don't understand your circumstances when you can't 23:52 see God's hand moving when you can see his hand trust his 23:59 heart in case there he's working. He says that there's 24:03 26 of cars for help re the most for your mercy sake. Hayes 24:11 calling out a bonus on God to fight for is really good. 24:15 It's so it comes full circle. He started with the history off 24:20 God's faithfulness and intervention. He ends with the 24:24 hope for his gracious redemption in the near future 24:28 and will use that word mercy. That's the sad got loving 24:32 kindness. His covenant faithfulness, his grace so 24:38 for today is found in understanding the past that we 24:43 can trust him in times of trouble with the absolute. 24:46 It's a powerful lesson. Shelley, thank you. 24:49 >> My friends. Don't go anywhere. We're going to take a 24:51 short break and we'll be back right in just a moment. 24:53 [MUSIC] 24:57 >> Ever wish you could study more deeply along with the 3 D 25:00 inside the school panel members. Well, now you can just 25:04 send an e-mail request to essence P at 3ABN out of work 25:07 and we'll email you. The savage school penniless note on a 25:10 weekly basis to enhance your own study of God's word. 25:13 That address again is essence P at 3 ABN Dot org. We'd love to 25:18 send you their notes just as they prepared. 25:20 Thank you for watching and thank you for being part of I 3 25:24 be inside the school panel family. 25:26 [MUSIC] 25:28 >> Hello, friends. Welcome back to 3. A B in Sabha school 25:31 panel. We're going to pass it on to Daniel preparing for 25:34 Tuesday's lesson. Thank you very much. And I do have 25:36 Tuesday's lesson of Daniel Perron and it is a psalm of 25:40 despair. So start with the question. How honest? 25:45 >> Can you really be with God and you really tail him? 25:49 Every thing, especially in those times where you're going 25:53 through a dark and lonely time 25:56 and the answer is found in Psalm. 22, which many people? 25:59 >> Call the Psalm of the cross will see why. 26:04 >> First chronicles, 25 verse one. You don't need to turn 26:07 there. But that was Tech says that the musicians in the 26:09 temple were too prophesied. And this musical psalm right 26:14 here certainly is prophetic. Jesus actually quotes the first 26:19 line of this psalm on the cross and Matthew 27 verse. 46, 26:24 I imagine anyone of us here could never write this salt. 26:29 I could not come up with this stuff from myself. I can read 26:34 it. But this certainly came from the inspired 26:38 word of God. It could not come from me. We're used to poems in 26:43 the Bible, Psalms in the Bible like this. I cried out to the 26:45 Lord 26:47 and he heard me. David says that Moses Noah, Hannah 26:53 Hagar p to save me and Jesus saves him. But in the greatest 26:59 agony of all time and all the universe, this song right here, 27:03 prayed by Jesus to the father is different. And in this, 27:09 Jesus directs us when we are going through despair to come 27:12 back to this psalm and to understand his suffering and 27:17 our suffering. 27:18 Some 22 verse one 27:20 such familiar words, my God, my God, 27:25 why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping 27:29 me? And from the words of my groaning, 27:33 if I were to put this to translate it into words that I 27:35 can hold on to, Don, I'm holding on to you, but I don't 27:40 see you. My faith is struggling with fear. I I don't see any 27:46 hope of deliverance and I don't feel like you're with me. 27:50 That's pretty honest. This starts out in complete 27:54 devastation. Looking at Jesus. He was not only abused by Satan 28:00 and people and angels while they're doing everything to 28:04 discourage in, destroy him, holding nothing back. But he is 28:07 also being abandoned by Angels men and by God. In some ways 28:14 the song gives us a fuller picture of the crucifixion we 28:18 actually see inside of what is going on in the heart of Jesus. 28:23 This is one of those numerous places in the Old Testament 28:26 where literally over 1000 years in advance, many years in 28:30 advance, the life of Jesus is revealed to us inspired through 28:34 the Holy Spirit deepen writes this down here and diverse 11 28:38 join Universal 11 will read all the way to first 18 and just 28:42 see the cross here 28:43 be not far from me. For trouble is near for. There is none to 28:49 help. Many bulls have surrounded me strong bulls of 28:53 bash on have encircled me. They gape at me with their 28:56 mouths like a raging in roaring lion on import out like water 29:01 and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like a wax. 29:06 It has melted within me. 29:09 My strength. This dried up like a pot shared and my tongue 29:12 clings to my job. As you have brought me to the dust of the 29:17 Earth of death for dogs have surrounded me. The congregation 29:21 of the wicked has been closed to me. They pierced my hands 29:25 and my feet. 29:27 I can count all my bones. They look and stare at me. 29:30 They divide my garments among them and for my clothing, 29:35 they cast lots. This is a picture of the cross right 29:39 here. 29:40 When we're in the midst of a time of trouble in our life 29:43 time of despair, we are directed to look at the cross 29:48 sun. And why is that? 29:50 Because she's a suffering. Gives us a model about how we 29:54 can walk through suffering because he has in the lesson 29:57 that writes it like this, the Psalms supervise our 30:01 experience. According to God's standards, it's like when 30:06 you're blindfolded and you need someone to lead you, I don't 30:09 know how to go through this time of despair. Lord, you've 30:12 been through it, lead me through it. And so the first 21 30:16 versus honestly expressing here's exactly what I'm going 30:20 through and how I feel about it. But what we notice is that 30:23 the psalmist here, the sufferer cheese as he does not let loose 30:28 in frustration and anger and bitterness and sarcasm. We're 30:34 apparently not given freedom to just say anything. 30:39 Our words do matter in the book by Ellen White that I may know 30:43 him page one. 37 these lines here. You are not conscious of 30:48 how much you are affected by your words, your custom 30:52 yourself to speak in a certain way and your thoughts and 30:55 actions follow your words. And so we say, Lord, when I'm 31:00 going through dark times, supervise my words, help me to 31:04 do what Jesus did and what did he do? Ver 7 of this. So we see 31:10 this. 31:11 All those who see me ridicule me. The shootout, the lip. 31:14 They shake their heads saying 31:16 he trusted in the lore. 31:19 It was Jesus is pattern. We see that on the cross. 31:21 That's exactly what they said to him in Matthew. 27. 43. 31:25 He trusted in God. Let him deliver him now, if you will 31:29 have. 31:31 So all the universe is gathered around literally watching Jesus 31:35 on the cross in his agony. What will he do? We'll he trust 31:40 in the father when the chips are down. When it's difficult. 31:43 When push comes to shove 31:45 verse, 21 gives us the answer. And here's the pattern of may 31:48 we be able to pray this prayer by God's grace, 31:52 save me from the lion's mouth and from the horns of the wild 31:55 oxen, 31:57 you have to answer to me. This is a declaration of faith 32:03 made to all of us that we can make to. I will declare your 32:07 name to my brother and in the midst of the assembly, I will 32:11 praise him Jesus trust in God, through the agony. But the 32:16 question is can we back in 15? 55 Thomas Hawks. He was a 32:24 Protestant in England. The time of Queen Mary when he refused 32:28 to have his infant son baptized, which gave 32:32 opportunity for his enemies to then bring accusation against 32:35 him and throw him into prison 32:38 and they offered him his life if he would recant his 32:41 Protestant faith. He said if I had 100 bodies, I would suffer 32:45 them all to be torn in pieces rather than I will. I'm sure in 32:49 recant several more times he was offered life 32:52 in place of giving up his Protestant faith. 32:56 He was sentenced to Bernie. And so they put him in prison 33:00 awaiting his execution. And during that time in prison, 33:03 they off, they allowed some of his friends to come in and 33:06 visit him. 33:07 And when his friends came to visit him to encourage him. 33:10 But they said, I don't know if I can make it if I'm called to 33:15 go through the flames when you give us sign, but she's us is 33:20 enough. 33:21 His grace is sufficient. And so Thomas Hawks, he agreed 33:25 that that he would raise his hand this as he was dying if 33:30 Jesus was enough, if he could make it through. 33:34 And so the day came and he was gracious to his executioners as 33:39 the attached and by changing the pole. And he pointed out to 33:42 them the scent of shutting innocent blood. And then he 33:45 began praying to God as Jesus did on the cross and has the 33:51 fled. The roar of the flames drowned out the voice of his 33:54 prayers. Everybody watched 33:57 as his skin tightened and his fingers burned off 34:01 and he was perfectly still 34:03 with his head down and all thought that he was dead 34:08 until his hand shot up in the air. He clapped his hands 3 34:13 times as if enjoy 34:16 and a lush outfield of of triumph from his friends came 34:21 out as he literally this hands on fire, clapping his hands 34:24 above his head and they said he is sufficient. Jesus is enough. 34:29 He can take us through this. Whatever it is 34:33 when it feels like God has abandoned me Philippians 4.13, 34:38 Paul says I can do all things through him who strengthens me. 34:44 I don't take this text to mean that God can help get me to the 34:47 state championship. 34:50 This is God can bring me through whatever trial he 34:53 allows to come my way. Listen to this statement from our high 34:56 calling Page 3.23, 34:58 our heavenly father measures and weighs every trial before 35:02 he permits it to come up on the believer. 35:06 He considers the circumstances in the strength of the one who 35:09 has to stand under the proving and the test of God and she 35:12 never permits the temptations to be greater and the capacity 35:17 of resistance. Here we have. She's us who lives out on the 35:22 cross. My grace is sufficient for you. 35:26 His his example for us as an illustration that when we are 35:30 in despair, we too can trust in God and it's not going to be on 35:34 our own strength. But the strength that he provides in 35:37 the moment. Lord I trust in, you know. 35:41 >> Thank you all so much, Daniel. That was powerful and 35:45 Shelley and Ryan. What an incredible lesson. I'm Jill 35:49 Meagher County. On Wednesday. We look at from despair to hope 35:54 and we're going a couple sums back to some 13. We're going to 35:59 take a look at some 13. 36:03 I wrote down something that Shelley said when she was 36:05 talking about. Don't 36:07 censure your emotions. If I'm being transparent with you, 36:13 the some homes have been very therapeutic for me in my own 36:18 journey with cheese. You see for many years I felt a 36:23 Christian. What I perceived a good Christian to be would 36:27 always be happy. 36:29 A good Christian always lives at peace with people. A good 36:34 Christian never expresses anger. A good Christian never 36:37 is irritated. Have a good Christian is never sad or has a 36:42 down day. 36:44 And when I read the songs I discovered it was OK, tax have 36:50 emotion. 36:51 It's what we do with it, 36:53 how we work through that. So I think some 13 36:58 it is extremely powerful because it shows us. What are 37:01 we to do with those emotions? If you look at some 13, I 37:07 divided into 3 sections. The first part is the pain. 37:11 This is the lament. 37:12 The Middle section is the petition. This is asking God, 37:17 help me with what I'm dealing with right now. The final part 37:22 is praise. 37:24 We break forth in praise to God. So let's look at that. 37:28 We'll start with the pain. That's the first 2 versus some 37:30 13 versus one in 2 37:34 O Lord. We see this phrase crying out to God comes 4 times 37:40 actually in the first 2 verses. How long o Lord will you 37:44 forgive me for ever? 37:46 How long will you hide your if faith from me? 37:52 David's being honest with God, God, I feel as if you've 37:56 abandoned me. This is what I call the parents. Silence of 38:00 God. It doesn't mean got is silence. But it means we can't 38:04 for whatever reason see him or feel him or reach out and touch 38:09 him. God is not answering my prayers. Have you experienced 38:12 the agony of waiting God. I want you to re store my 38:17 marriage. God. I want you to bring my kids back to you. 38:22 God. Somebody I love is dying right now. 38:26 God. How long? Why are you bringing physical healing? 38:29 Why am I not seen salvation take place here? Why is my 38:34 house being foreclosed upon wiser? This financial struggle? 38:39 How long we struggle because it seems like God delays in 38:44 answering our prayers are maybe we have a personal setback or 38:48 some sort of trial that we're going through right at that 38:51 moment. Even sometimes we struggle with the seeming evil 38:55 and injustice in the world and we know God doesn't cause it. 38:59 Satan does. But why is God per maybe this to happen? How long 39:05 take away number one, be honest with God in prayer. Be 39:10 transparent with how you're feeling God can handle higher 39:15 feeling because we are, you know, is how you feel real. 39:18 Let's reverse too. How long she'll lie. Take counsel in my 39:22 soul. Having side our in my heart daily. How long will my 39:29 enemy be exalted over me? You see he's feeling oppressed 39:34 and depressed. He feels that the enemy is winning. 39:39 Maybe you're dealing with addiction. Maybe you're dealing 39:41 with fear. Maybe you're walking through a spiritual journey or 39:46 battle and your heart cries out with this fourfold lament. 39:51 How long it's expressing fear and pain and loneliness. 39:55 This continue with emotional pain. Takeaway number 2, 39:59 emotions are not wrong. It's what we do with Christian 40:03 struggle. With the motion to we deal with anxiety and fear and 40:08 worry we do with depression and sadness. We deal with anger and 40:14 irritation. 40:16 It's not wrong. The emotion, but it's what we do with it. 40:20 Now we shift from the pain to the middle section, which is 40:24 the petition for that. We look at the next 2 verses were in 40:27 some 13 versus 3, 4, Consider and hear me. Oh, lord, my God. 40:34 Now it's interesting. There's no and in the Hebrew. So 40:38 instead of saying consider in here E it's even stronger than 40:41 that. It's like we were to say, look here me, David's crying 40:47 out to God thought police would you hear me and I love how he 40:53 says, oh, lord, my God. 40:57 Even though he feels abandoned by God, even though he feels 41:00 did and from God, he still calls him my God 41:06 in light my eyes. Let's I sleep. The sleep of death. 41:09 Plus Miami say I have prevailed against him. 41:13 Plus those who trouble me read choice when I 41:16 >> and moved. We see the shift here from the pain to the 41:20 petition from complaining to requesting from God takeaway 41:25 number 3, don't be afraid to act. Ask God for help. 41:31 Tell God you needs. Tell God what's in your heart. Don't 41:35 think he's not going to answer. I'm not ask be honest. And I 41:40 now we shift. We had the pain. The petitioner, the request. 41:44 Now we shift to praise. We see that in the last 2 versus 41:48 versus 5, 6, Let's reverse 5. But I have trusted in your 41:52 mercy. This is the word has said loving kindness, your 41:56 covenant faithfulness, my heart should rejoice in your 42:01 salvation takeaway number 4, choose to exercise faith 42:08 even when you cannot see and you can not understand. You see 42:13 faith is not dependent on how I feel if it were my faith would 42:16 be very weak. Faith is dependent on the object in 42:21 which our faith is placed in. We choose to place our faith in 42:27 the Lord Jesus Christ knowing he is God and he cannot change 42:31 and he is omnipotent and all-powerful and he is live. 42:36 You might say, but I don't have any faith. 42:39 Every man. Every woman is given a measure of faith. Romans, 42:44 12 3 says that. How do we build that face? Romans. 10, 17 faith 42:49 comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. If you want to 42:53 build your faith, spend time in the word of God and recall to 42:57 mind what God has done in the past. Remember the Times he has 43:02 Kang through as it were for you in the past and that 43:05 strengthens your faith and the present moment of crisis, 43:10 then it ends with for 6. This is breaking out in praise. 43:13 I was Santa the Lord because he hasn't dealt bountifully with 43:18 me. 43:19 Weeping may endure for a night. Some 30 verse 5 tells us that. 43:23 But joy comes in the morning. Take a number 5 praise. Make 43:29 seat enemy fully 43:31 praises the choice. Praise can change my feelings. Praise can 43:35 turn my attitude around. Praise can turn my sorrow into 43:41 joy and we might not. I feel like praising but when we make 43:46 the choice to praise, God shows up, God changes. Our emotional. 43:53 Want to share with you in closing experience. This 43:56 happened many years ago with one of my friends. She had fell 43:59 into a deep depression 44:01 and she ended up in the mental hospital. I remember going to 44:04 visit her there and she was sitting on her bed cross like 44:07 it. 44:09 Tears streaming down her face. And I remember, I thought, 44:12 God, I don't even know how to help. I don't know what to say. 44:14 I don't know what to do. 44:16 And I remember thinking, well, we could pray together and we 44:18 prayed and she just continued Rockin in crying. And she was 44:22 in such a deep depression. And I remember I thought we 44:25 could sing, but I don't thing well. And, you know, you try 44:28 different things to try to talk to her. Nothing worked. And 44:30 then the thought came to me, read the word of God. And I 44:33 started in Psalms Chapter 90. 44:37 >> What does that say? I know with 91. Sorry, some 91 he that 44:41 dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under 44:45 the shadow of the almighty Iowa say of the Lord. He is my 44:49 refuge and my fortress, my God in him, I will trust. And as I 44:54 read that some 44:56 her crying stopped her rocking stop. And she looked at me. 45:01 Choi broke for lunch. Now, does that mean the word of God 45:07 can bring you out of depression? Yes, absolutely. 45:09 I believe it means that. Does that mean that we don't 45:12 need modern science and medicine? Absolutely. We need 45:15 that, too. So I'm not negating that. I'm just saying I have 45:19 never seen the past power in the word of God as strongly as 45:23 I did that thing. So no matter what you're going through, 45:27 no matter what dark experience you are walking in shoes to 45:32 open up. The word of the shooting was to praise. Choose 45:37 to immerse your mind in God's word has. 45:40 >> And watch as he changes your emotions and man. Oh, man, 45:44 thank you so much, Jill. What a powerful message that 45:47 God has for us in the songs. Thursday's lessen my name is 45:50 James Rafferty is restore us again. And really, it is seen 45:55 the heart of God that restores us. We've learned from Jill 45:59 that the Psalms teach us that it's OK to have emotions. 46:01 And Daniel taught us that the Psalms teach us that Jesus is 46:05 able to bring us through the most difficult time. Shelley, 46:08 the sums remind us that God gives us freedom of speech in 46:11 writing the songs, help us. We don't know how to pray. 46:15 So in this lesson, we're going to be looking at some 60 verses 46:19 one through 5. 46:21 And the lesson says that for that for one locations, do you 46:24 think this song would be suitable a suitable prayer? 46:28 How Comey benefit benefit from the Psalms of lament, even 46:32 enjoy a seasons of time. You know, the psalms of it can 46:35 really speak to our hearts were going through difficulties. 46:37 But what about we're not really going through difficulties. 46:40 How we've been for from the songs when we're going through 46:43 joyous times in our life. And I think one of the ways we 46:46 can benefit will talk about this is seen how the psalms of 46:50 one that actually speak of the experience of our God and his 46:54 heart toward us and not just our heart toward him. 46:58 Some 61 through 5, 0, got does cast a soft scattered us that 47:03 has been displeased. Turn myself to us again. 47:07 First to the house made the earth to tremble the house, 47:10 broken it, heal the breach is their offer. It shaketh that 47:13 will show that people hard things that's made us drink the 47:16 wine of astonishment that was given a banner to them that 47:20 here's the that maybe display because of the truth. 47:23 It's a lot. 47:25 First 5 47:26 thy beloved may be delivered. Save with a great hand and hear 47:32 me. 47:33 The psalms of format are generally understood to be 47:36 prayers. The lesson cord that goes on to say of people living 47:40 through trying times with the physical or psychological or 47:43 spiritual or all 3, 47:46 this does not mean that we should avoid the songs even in 47:49 the good times. Sometimes there may be total disjunction from 47:53 the wars of the psalms and the worshippers present experience 47:57 that is sums of money can be beneficial to worshipers who 48:00 are not in distress. First, they can make us more where 48:05 that suffering is a part of the general human experience. 48:08 And that happens to both the righteous and the wicked. 48:11 The Psalms assure us that God is in control and provide 48:13 strength solutions in times of trouble. Even in this, even 48:18 amid the trouble bracket, you made fear to Trumbull some 60 48:22 verse to the psalmist displays his ultimate hope in God's 48:27 deliverance. Now, second, 48:29 the lesson goes on to say the lament Psalms teach us 48:32 compassion toward suffers when expressing our happiness and 48:36 gratitude to God, especially in public. We must be mindful of 48:39 the less fortunate. Sure we might have things good. Go 48:43 right around us right now. But who doesn't and who doesn't 48:47 know of people all around us are suffering terribly. We see 48:50 this in the world all over the world today. And how can we 48:53 relate to that? Sometimes we just want to shut off the news 48:57 and and close our ears to the pain and suffering of others. 49:00 God can do that. God doesn't do that because people want 49:04 either. So how do we manage? How do we cope? How do we 49:08 navigate with the troubles of others? Prayed through the 49:11 psalms can help us 49:13 not to forget those who are going through hard times. 49:16 The sums can invoke in us compassion and a desire to 49:20 minister to the suffering as Jesus did. 49:23 And 3rd. And this is just an added insight. And perhaps I 49:26 think most important of all 49:28 the men songs remind us 49:31 that the God of Heaven, the creator of All The Redeemer of 49:33 all the all-knowing, Infinite Almighty, God knows and sees 49:38 all of the pain of all of the people all of the time in some 49:44 56 per se. 49:47 It says thou tell us my wanderings 49:50 put down my tears into thy bottle. Are they not? In my 49:54 book, 49:56 God knows all of our wanderings. He knows of all of 49:58 our tears. He knows of all of our troubles. Now just said a 50:01 lot. Just think about that. I think about that for a 50:04 minute. The way that God relates to the human family 50:08 got season records, David sufferings for sure. But we 50:12 shouldn't miss this point. The got season records, all 50:15 human suffering. Yeah, not only so but the same God stepped 50:21 into the human race, not for a mere 33 years, but for all 50:24 eternity to become forever. The son of man so that he could 50:29 be touched with the feelings of our laments 50:32 as noted in some. 22 which Daniel shared earlier, my God, 50:35 my God, why Hast thou forsaken me if you've ever felt that 50:39 way, if you've ever experienced that well, got himself in the 50:42 person of Jesus Christ dip into that experience with us. 50:47 Why so far from healthy mean from the words of my roaring? 50:50 Oh, my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou he's not in a 50:52 night season. I am not silent 50:55 for dogs that can pass me the assembly of the weekend in 50:57 close me. They pierced my hands and my feet. And of course, 51:01 this is a well-known prophetic, saw a prophetic, some of Christ 51:05 and what he would experience being pierce, that he's being 51:08 crucified through his hands and his feet, the nail prince, 51:11 the physical suffering of Christ up on Calvary. Really, 51:15 we're hardly felt we think about them as significant. 51:20 But they were hardly felt when compared to the mental anguish. 51:24 You know, Psalm 88 says that Christ could not see through 51:27 the port holes of the tomb 51:29 in verse 3. The Sama says for my soul is full of troubles 51:34 again. Prophetically speaking price. My life draws near to 51:37 the grave I encounter with embers. For the go down to the 51:39 pin on his man has no strength free among the dead, like the 51:42 slain that lie in the grave that remember snow more. 51:46 They are caught off from thy hand fire at night that just 51:50 for 6,000, maybe in the lowest pit in darkness in the Deeps 51:54 thy wrath life harder. Palm me that's afflicted with me with 51:57 all of I wave say a lot 51:59 that has put a waiver statement acquaintances far from the 52:02 members disciples. Everyone left him fled. 52:06 That has made me an abomination unto them. I'm shut up and I 52:09 cannot come forth. Christ could not see through the portals of 52:12 the tuna by the Bible in the case that Christ will begin 52:16 their the marks of the crucifixion for all eternity. 52:20 You know, the redeemed will be fully make new, but 52:23 they'll be one reminder throughout alternative, the 52:25 pain, the emotional pain and not just the physical pain that 52:29 sun is brought to the heart of God. In John Chapter 2025, 52:33 to 27 Jesus tells Philip, put your hands and my in they'll 52:36 print and see. Right. So even after his resurrection, Jesus 52:39 Christ, there's those snow prints. In fact, there's a 52:42 prophecy and Zechariah chapter 13 verse 6 52:45 where one shell say and him Jesus. What are these wounds in 52:49 9 hands? And he will answer and say those with which I was 52:53 wounded in the house of my friends. 52:56 [MUSIC] 52:58 It's a beautiful picture, really of the heart of God in 53:01 the book 53:02 welfare ministry pages. 24 25 it talks about how this world 53:08 is a vast laser house.
