00:20 Welcome again to Secrets to Wellness.
00:23 We're studying secrets or principles 00:26 that's going to help us to live longer, 00:29 healthier, and happier. 00:31 And our first secret is actually water. 00:35 Water, my friends, 00:37 is the beverage designed for our health. 00:40 Water is the beverage that God has provided for us 00:44 to even quench our thirst. 00:46 And when we drink water freely, 00:49 it actually helps supply the necessities of our system, 00:52 and it will actually assist nature 00:55 to help us resist disease. 00:58 So water is very, very important, 01:01 and it is a wonderful natural remedy. 01:05 It is very important if we're going to have a longer 01:10 healthier, happier life. 01:12 And water is also a powerful healing agent. 01:16 For example, we can simply have a hot foot treatment, 01:21 foot bath treatment if we're having a headache. 01:24 We want to get that blood 01:26 from the head down to the feet 01:28 and so, here we have a powerful water treatment 01:33 with hot water to the feet, cold water to the head 01:37 wrapped in a sheet and then in a blanket, 01:39 and you will actually feel the headache 01:43 going right out of your head. 01:45 And so water is also a powerful healing agent. 01:50 You see, water brings healing to the body, 01:53 whether we use it internally 01:55 or whether we use it externally. 01:58 And if we are healthy or even if we are sick, 02:02 water is one of the Creator's greatest blessings. 02:06 So we can use water to help us to get better 02:10 if we're sick and we have water to keep us well. 02:14 So water is also a calming stress reliever. 02:19 Have you ever been out by a stream 02:23 just flowing and feel like 02:25 you just have less stress in your life? 02:28 Well, let's look at Amanda Carlson, 02:32 registered dietitian, director of performance nutrition 02:36 at Athletes' Performance, 02:38 and she is also a trainer of world class athletes 02:43 and she says, "Studies have shown 02:45 that being just even half a liter dehydrated 02:50 can increase your cortisol levels. 02:53 And this cortisone is one of those stress hormones 02:57 that staying in a good hydrated condition 03:01 can help keep you your stress levels down." 03:04 So that's what we want to do 03:06 is have our stress down, isn't it? 03:08 And when you don't give your body the fluids 03:11 that it needs, you're putting stress on it 03:14 and it's going to respond to that. 03:16 So also, water is a wonderful stress reliever. 03:21 Stress can cause dehydration 03:24 and dehydration can cause stress. 03:27 So, my friends, it can be a vicious circle. 03:31 If you have stress, you probably are dehydrated 03:35 and then dehydration actually can cause stress. 03:40 But you can break this cycle 03:42 by building more water consumption into your day. 03:46 So we need to get adequate amounts of water 03:49 and the proper use of water, 03:51 my friends, actually promotes health. 03:54 And this is why this is one of God's important remedies. 03:58 Water is a gift from God. 04:01 Right from the very beginning of creation, 04:05 God gave us the wonderful gift of water. 04:08 But someone asked, "Why is water so important?" 04:12 Well, water is important 04:15 because adults are 60% water by weight, 04:19 and the brain is 85% water by weight, 04:23 and the blood is 90% water by weight. 04:26 And so we have body that's full of water, 04:30 and water is needed for every function of human life. 04:34 It's needed just to breathe our respiration. 04:38 It's needed for digestion. 04:40 It's needed for flexibility, 04:42 so that we can even flex our muscles, 04:44 so water is needed for every human function of life. 04:49 And water is essential 04:51 for efficient circulation of the blood as well. 04:55 And so, we need water 04:57 because we have normal water loss. 05:00 We have loss through the lungs when we breathe. 05:03 We have loss through the skin when we sweat or perspire. 05:07 And then we have a loss of water through the kidneys 05:11 and the bowels. 05:12 So we eliminate toxins these four ways, 05:16 through the lungs, through the skin, 05:19 through the kidneys, and through the intestines, 05:22 so we have water loss every day. 05:25 But let's look at the healthful benefits 05:28 of replenishing that water. 05:30 And so, we're looking at some benefits of water. 05:33 Scientific studies revealed the following benefits. 05:37 First, my friends, it's improving digestion. 05:40 Now that is, of course, 05:42 if we're drinking water at the right time, 05:44 and we'll discuss that as well. 05:46 And water purifies the blood, it enhances the circulation, 05:51 eliminates the toxins, 05:53 and every day our body is filled with toxins 05:57 just from our surroundings. 06:00 And then also a wonderful thing 06:03 that happens is that it increases our energy. 06:06 Have you ever felt lack of energy? 06:08 Well, water will increase your energy. 06:11 And water also is good for treatments. 06:14 This has healing advantages 06:16 as we have those good water treatments, 06:20 and water builds the immune system 06:23 just as we get in that shower and take a hot and cold shower. 06:27 Every day I take a hot and cold shower. 06:31 I get in there and I love the hot, 06:33 sometimes the cold is a little stimulating 06:38 but I go in and take a hot shower 06:41 for two to three minutes, 06:43 and then you can turn on the cold for about 30 seconds. 06:47 The way I have to do it is often count really fast, 06:51 one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, 06:53 and then another 10 and another 10. 06:56 I'm counting a little slower by the time 06:58 I get to the third 10 and 30 seconds, 07:02 and you'll feel stimulated and you'll feel energized. 07:07 And then repeat this, 07:08 especially if you are feeling sick, 07:11 repeat it at least three times. 07:14 And then, of course, always end with cold. 07:17 So hot and cold shower actually builds your immune system. 07:22 And also drinking lots of water improves our memory. 07:26 We all want to improve our memory, right? 07:29 And so, drinking lots of water does that 07:33 because you see the brain in order to remain active, 07:36 it must have water. 07:38 In fact, reports indicate that long term dehydration 07:42 may even contribute to Alzheimer's disease. 07:47 Alzheimer's disease is on the rise. 07:51 And one of the reasons, there are several reasons, 07:54 but one of the reasons is that when people get older, 07:58 they actually don't drink enough water. 08:01 So we need water for the brain to be active. 08:06 You see the human brain is about one-fiftieth 08:09 of the total body weight, and brain cells are 85% water. 08:14 So we truly need water to keep our brain healthy, 08:19 and we need adequate amounts of water 08:22 for many functions of life. 08:25 Look, if we expect the body to function 08:28 with just a little amount of water, 08:31 it's like, my friends, 08:32 trying to wash these dirty dishes 08:36 in just a cup full of water. 08:38 Now, these dishes aren't going to get very clean, 08:41 are they with just one cup or two cups 08:44 or maybe even three cups of water. 08:47 They're not going to get very clean, 08:49 and neither can we cleanse our system 08:52 on just a few cups of water. 08:55 So the question is, how much do we really need. 08:58 I'm glad you asked that question 09:01 because it's very important. 09:03 Well, we get water sources from different ways. 09:06 Of course, we get it from our food, 09:08 especially, if we're eating a lot of fruit, 09:12 that contains a lot of water, 09:14 and then we get it from the water that we drink. 09:17 And so, since we get some water from our food, 09:21 we really need about eight ounce glasses of water a day 09:26 or two liters every day. 09:30 So we need at least four to five to even survive, 09:34 and we need seven or eight to really feel great, 09:38 and nine or ten if we need to be revitalized. 09:42 If we're feeling not well 09:43 or if the climate is dry, we may need a little more, 09:48 so we can be revitalized with nine or ten. 09:51 But most of us need about 09:54 eight ounce glasses of water a day. 09:57 But then you ask also, 09:59 "Don't most people drink enough water?" 10:02 Well, the truth of the matter is that people today 10:07 drink more soft drinks, and more coffee, 10:11 and more caffeine. 10:12 You see, these coffee shops 10:15 just lined up with several people 10:18 waiting for caffeine. 10:20 And then they drink more alcohol 10:23 than they do good pure water. 10:26 So we need to have more water 10:29 in order to truly be healthy and live longer 10:33 but look, let's look at the consumption of soft drinks. 10:36 A staggering 90% of the world's population 10:40 consumes caffeinated soft drinks. 10:44 And 9 of 10 people all over the world, my friends, 10:50 are drinking caffeine soft drinks. 10:52 I see it as I travel the world as well. 10:56 And let's look at the consumption 10:57 of what kids are drinking. 11:00 The kids with the highest consumption levels reported 11:03 drinking about 20 ounces of soft drinks a day, 11:06 equal to nearly two popular sized cans. 11:11 So when we are getting this much soft drinks 11:16 which are dehydrating, not re-dehydrating, 11:20 we're really not hydrating our body. 11:23 And look, public health officials 11:25 call soft drinks liquid candy, 11:28 because most boys get 10 or 15 teaspoons 11:33 of refined sugar daily, 11:35 and most girls about 10 teaspoons 11:38 all from sweetened beverages. 11:41 Now, this doesn't count, my friends, 11:43 what they're getting from candy and from sugar cereals 11:48 and from other sources of processed foods, 11:51 but this is just from sweetened beverages. 11:55 And approximately 20% of toddlers 11:59 between the ages of even one and two consume soft drinks. 12:04 It is so sad when you see little babies, 12:08 little tiny children drinking soft drinks 12:11 out of a baby bottle. 12:13 But the consumption of soft drinks 12:15 annually in the United States 12:18 in 2015 was 40.7 gallons per person. 12:24 Now, I hope someone is getting your share, 12:26 and I'm sure someone's getting my share 12:29 because I don't drink any soft drinks 12:32 because I know they're detrimental to our health. 12:36 And according to the National Soft Drink Association 12:39 consumption of soft drinks 12:41 is now over 600 12-ounce servings 12:45 per person, per year. 12:47 This is, my friends, 19.72 ounces daily. 12:53 This is astronomical, it's unbelievable. 12:58 And the highest consumption of soft drinks 13:00 is actually in males between the ages of 12 and 29, 13:06 and they average a half a gallon a day 13:09 or eight ounce cups daily. 13:13 That is way too many empty calories 13:17 that we are getting. 13:19 And how does this happen, you say, how can this be true? 13:24 Well, fast food chains offer 13:26 20 ounce drinks with free refills, 13:29 and people want to get their money's worth, 13:32 and so at the movie theaters as well as convenience stores, 13:35 the most popular size is now the 64-ounce Double Gulp. 13:41 And so people are getting more soft drinks 13:45 than the body can really even handle. 13:49 What about soft drinks and other beverages? 13:51 someone ask. 13:53 Well, does it matter really what I drink, 13:56 they all contain water don't they? 13:58 So does it really matter? 13:59 Well, the body does use water in all its forms, 14:03 but these beverages pose many, many problems, my friend. 14:07 So let's look at the real truth about soft drinks. 14:11 Soft drinks are detrimental to our health. 14:15 They're filled with sugar and chemicals, 14:17 and they have health risks. 14:21 And look, the Harvard School of Public Health reported, 14:25 "Soft drinks are the beverage of choice 14:27 for millions of Americans, 14:29 but sugary drinks increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, 14:34 and heart disease, and other chronic conditions." 14:38 So these diseases that we've talked about 14:41 diabetes to heart disease, all of these chronic diseases 14:46 are actually because of our lifestyle practices, 14:50 and soft drinks is one problem that we have. 14:55 In a study of 40,000 men for two decades found that 14:59 those who averaged one can of a sugary beverage per day 15:04 had a 20% higher risk of a heart attack. 15:08 So these scientific findings are now showing us 15:13 that some of the things that we're doing 15:16 in our lifestyle practices are actually causing 15:19 some of these chronic diseases. 15:21 In another study of 80,000 women 15:25 found that those who consumed a can a day 15:28 of sugary drink had a 75% higher risk of gout 15:34 than women who rarely drink such drinks. 15:37 And so, we're finding science is finding that 15:41 we have to cut out really 15:44 some of these beverages that we're drinking. 15:47 Soft drinks contain large, large amounts of sugar. 15:52 In fact, a 20 ounce bottle of soda 15:55 may contain up to 36 cubes of sugar. 16:01 This is amazing, my friends, 16:03 that is an astronomical amount 16:08 and one, even one glass contains 16:11 about eight teaspoons of sugar 16:14 and that's a small glass actually. 16:17 There are much larger ones than that that people are drinking. 16:21 And sugar weakens the immune system, 16:24 and sugar reduces the ability to fight disease. 16:28 Soft drinks break down the system 16:30 and predispose our body to disease. 16:33 So we're seeing that soft drinks 16:37 are filled with empty calories. 16:39 They contain no nutrition at all. 16:43 And soft drinks contain empty calories, 16:47 we get the calories 16:48 but we do not get the nutrition that we need. 16:52 And so we have no vitamins, we have low minerals, 16:57 high empty calories and high sugar. 17:00 I'd like to do a little experiment here 17:03 and show you how much sugar 17:06 is actually in a 12 ounce can of a soft drink. 17:12 So let's take this good water. 17:14 Now, this is good purified water. 17:18 And how many would like to drink this? 17:21 Would you like to drink this, my friends, 17:22 those of you watching on 3ABN? 17:25 You'd like to drink this good pure water, right? 17:27 Well, I'm going to pour that into our glass, 17:31 and then we'll add here a few chemicals, 17:36 and so we'll put some coloring in here 17:40 and add a little bit of that but, of course, 17:42 you have the caffeine as well in these sugar, 17:47 in these soft drinks and then we'll add 17:50 a little more chemicals here to it. 17:54 And then we'll try to make this look like, 17:59 just like a soft drink that you're going to get, 18:02 and we'll stir this around and then... 18:07 Now, we have a soft drink, 18:09 but let me share how much sugar 18:11 you are getting in this one glass. 18:14 Well, we have one, 18:17 two, three, 18:22 four, five, 18:26 six, seven, 18:30 eight, nine, ten. 18:36 And in some soft drinks we even have as many as 12. 18:41 Now, would you like to drink this? 18:43 I don't think so, 18:45 but many people don't realize 18:48 how much sugar that they're really getting 18:51 in these soft drinks 18:53 which are detrimental to our health. 18:56 And so we have the calories down and... 19:00 The calories up and the sugar is up, 19:05 so the vitamins are down, the minerals are down 19:09 but the calories are up. 19:11 And so what do we have, my friends? 19:13 We have unbalanced nutrition. 19:16 Soft drinks give you too many extra calories 19:19 and that's why we have an obesity problem 19:22 here in this country. 19:24 And Harvard School of Public Health reported, 19:27 "A recent ground-breaking study of 33,097 individuals 19:33 showed that among people 19:35 with a genetic predisposition for obesity, 19:39 those who drank sugary drinks were more likely to be obese 19:44 than those who did not." 19:46 And then we wonder why we have 19:48 a problem with obesity in this country? 19:50 It's because people are filling their carts, 19:53 their wagons at the grocery store 19:56 with all of these soft drinks. 19:59 So we need to be aware of the factors 20:02 that increase our risk of obesity, 20:05 and yet water helps us 20:07 to lose weight, not gain weight, 20:10 it's an effective appetite suppressant, 20:14 so we actually eat less. 20:16 So we need to drink more water 20:18 and not these other soft drinks. 20:21 And yet people all over the world, my friends, 20:24 get inadequate amounts of water. 20:27 And inadequate amount of water negatively impacts 20:30 both our health and even our mental attitudes. 20:34 So it not only affects our physical health, 20:37 but also our mental health. 20:39 Many people, my friends, are actually dehydrated 20:43 and they don't even know it and they're not really sick, 20:47 they're just plain thirsty. 20:50 And there are some signs of dehydration. 20:53 One is tiredness. 20:55 If you're feeling tired and lack of energy, 20:59 it may be that you need more water. 21:02 If you're experiencing headaches all the time, 21:05 it may be that you're lacking water 21:08 and you need to drink more. 21:10 And if you have dry skin 21:12 or you even have excessive thirst. 21:15 Now, you'll have some thirst when you start drinking water. 21:19 You'll want to drink more actually 21:21 as you even start drinking, but excessive thirst 21:25 is a very good sign of dehydration, 21:29 but a very good sign is the urine. 21:32 Every day there should be a clear urine. 21:35 If you know that you're getting a yellow urine, 21:38 you know that you're not drinking enough water. 21:41 And this is a good way to tell 21:43 whether you're drinking enough or not. 21:46 Well, when should we drink water? 21:48 When should we drink water? 21:50 Well, the best time to drink is in between our meals 21:53 and not with our meals. 21:55 In fact, drinking with meals can interfere 21:58 with the natural levels of acid 22:02 needed in the stomach to digest food properly. 22:05 In fact in a book Councils on Diets and Foods, page 420, 22:09 it says this, "Many make a mistake in drinking 22:13 cold water with their meals. 22:15 Taken with meals, water diminishes the flow 22:18 of the salivary glands, and the colder the water, 22:22 the greater the injury to the stomach. 22:26 So eat slowly, 22:28 and allow the saliva to mingle with the food. 22:31 The more liquid there is taken into the stomach 22:35 with the meals, the more difficult 22:37 it is for the food to digest, 22:40 for the liquid must first be absorbed. 22:43 But if anything is needed to quench thirst, pure water, 22:47 drunk some time before or after the meal, 22:51 is all that nature requires." 22:53 So, my friends, you see what happens is this. 22:57 When we drink cold water and we drink it with our meals, 23:01 the water has to warm up to our body temperature 23:04 before digestion begins and then it has to be absorbed 23:10 before digestion starts. 23:13 So actually drinking with meals delays 23:18 the whole digestive processes. 23:20 And so, we should drink 23:22 approximately 30 minutes before a meal 23:26 and two hours after a meal to really be healthy. 23:31 And when should we start? 23:32 We'll start with two glasses in the morning. 23:34 I start with those two glasses every morning when I get up. 23:38 My friends, our bodies need water 23:40 both on the inside and on the outside. 23:45 And so we need it, likewise on the outside 23:48 in order to be really healthy and a daily bath fortifies 23:52 even against a common cold. 23:54 And so, a bath is going to help if you have a cold 23:57 because the circulation is improved 24:00 and the blood flows freely. 24:03 In fact, in the book Counsels on Health, 104, it says, 24:07 "Bathing helps the bowels, the stomach, and the liver, 24:11 giving energy and new life to each." 24:14 So if you want energy and new life 24:18 to the entire system, the bowels, 24:20 the stomach and even the liver, 24:23 then even take a bath occasionally. 24:25 I know, that we have showers today 24:27 and that's very good, we need one every day 24:30 but occasionally it's good to have a bath as well. 24:33 In fact, Child Guidance, 108 says this, 24:37 "Scrupulous cleanliness is essential 24:39 to both physical and mental health. 24:42 Impurities are constantly thrown off 24:44 from the body through the skin. 24:46 Its millions of pores are quickly clogged 24:49 unless kept clean by frequent bathing." 24:53 So we need, my friends, water on the outside 24:57 and water on the inside, and occasionally a bath 25:01 because the entire system is strengthened 25:03 not weakened with a warm bath 25:07 and a warm bath also improves our sleep, 25:11 so we need water, my friends, 25:13 on the inside to promote good health. 25:16 And water invigorates the entire system 25:19 and brings health to our bodies. 25:23 So we need to use it on the outside 25:26 because water helps eliminate even some suffering, 25:30 and water is a means of saving many, many lives. 25:35 So God has given us the gift of water. 25:39 So drink water freely, cleansing the inside 25:43 and bathe daily to cleanse the outside. 25:47 These are God's true remedies, my friends, 25:51 so drinking plenty of water helps promote wellness. 25:55 So here is your prescription. 25:57 Drink eight, eight ounce glasses of water every day, 26:02 and then count how many glasses you drink. 26:06 Many people don't know, 26:08 they're not aware of how much they are actually drinking. 26:11 So water is available to all of us. 26:14 This is another one of God's health assurance plan, 26:18 so that we can be living to that healthy 100. 26:22 So here are my teenie tips for you. 26:24 Drink two glasses of warm water when you rise in the morning. 26:29 And then drink 30 minutes before a meal 26:32 or two hours after a meal. 26:34 And even carry your water bottle with you. 26:37 And then drink eight, 26:38 eight ounce glasses of water daily. 26:41 And then get water on the outside. 26:44 Take a bath or shower daily. 26:46 Take a tepid bath regularly 26:48 and use water treatments even for headaches or colds. 26:52 My friends, in Revelation 22:17, 26:56 it says this, "And the Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' 27:00 and let him who hears say, 'Come!' 27:02 and let him who thirsts comes. 27:05 Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely." 27:11 God bless you, my friends, 27:12 as you choose another one of God's remedies for help. |
