00:23 Welcome to
00:24 Timeless Healing Insights. 00:25 I'm Dr. David DeRose. 00:26 Let us pray together, Father 00:29 in heaven, 00:29 as we prepare 00:29 to open your word, 00:31 please speak to our hearts, 00:33 draw us close to you, 00:35 and may we gain 00:36 practical insights 00:37 that will be a blessing to us 00:39 and to others. 00:40 We ask In Jesus name, Amen. 00:45 Let us look more 00:47 at these first verses 00:48 that set the stage 00:50 for this dramatic, fast paced 00:54 narrative in Mark 1. 00:56 What are the key words 00:57 you see it 00:58 right here 00:58 highlighted 00:59 is the word immediately. 01:02 It's a translation 01:03 from the Greek euthus. 01:05 Let me read 01:06 the passage for you. 01:08 Jesus is baptized and it says. 01:10 And when He came 01:11 out of the water, immediately 01:14 euthus. 01:15 He saw the heavens being 01:17 torn open 01:18 and the Spirit 01:19 descending on Him like a dove. 01:21 And a voice comes from heaven. 01:22 You are my beloved Son. 01:25 With you, I am well pleased. 01:27 What is this? 01:27 Immediacy. 01:29 Very, very interesting. 01:31 Very, very interesting. 01:34 From the moment Jesus makes 01:36 that commitment in baptism, 01:38 we see things happening 01:40 immediately. 01:41 This word euthus 01:42 is a very fascinating one. 01:44 It is a more frequently 01:46 used word in the New Testament 01:49 than schizo 01:50 that we looked at earlier. 01:52 But about 80 times 01:54 in the New Testament, 01:56 this word is used, 01:57 but fully half 01:59 are in Mark's gospel. 02:00 And then the largest number 02:04 of occurrences 02:04 of this word occur in Mark 1. 02:07 Quarter 02:08 of the time that Mark uses 02:09 the word in chapter 1. 02:11 Immediately 02:11 this, immediately that. 02:13 And you look at your Bible 02:14 in english 02:15 and you may see the word 02:16 occasionally immediately, 02:17 but it may say something like 02:19 if you have the King 02:19 James anon. 02:21 Okay, 02:21 so these are all translations 02:23 of the word ethus, immediately. 02:27 Why is this so significant? 02:29 Well, I want you to 02:30 think about it this way. 02:31 If you realize that God's Word 02:34 can work 02:35 immediately, 02:37 then how should that affect 02:39 your attitude 02:40 in your relationship with God? 02:42 If God can do things instantly, 02:44 if God can step into your life 02:46 and make a difference 02:47 immediately. 02:48 What I would suggest to you, 02:49 if you recognize that, 02:51 if I recognize it, 02:53 instead of 02:54 increasing my stress, 02:56 saying like, well, 02:57 why didn't God act immediately? 02:59 You know, 02:59 I prayed for a new car 03:02 and there's not one 03:02 in the driveway. 03:04 Instead of 03:05 getting distressed by that, 03:06 what should I say? 03:07 I should say I know 03:08 God has that kind of power 03:10 and I can trust Him. 03:12 If the timing were right, 03:14 He would do that. 03:16 Do you see, 03:16 it's a vital, vital principle 03:19 when it comes to 03:20 stress management. 03:21 I think all of you have heard 03:22 the Serenity prayer. 03:23 There are many versions to it. 03:25 But here's 03:26 one of the more popular ones. 03:29 God grant us the serenity 03:31 to accept the things 03:33 we cannot change, the courage 03:35 to change the things we can, 03:38 and the wisdom 03:40 to know the difference. 03:42 We say, 03:42 what does this have 03:43 to do with immediacy? 03:45 The idea 03:45 is there's some things 03:47 that we can't effect, 03:49 we can't accomplish. 03:52 God can. 03:54 He can 03:55 accomplish it immediately. 03:57 But we recognize 03:58 that the power is in 03:58 God's hands. 03:59 We can surrender it to Him. 04:02 The biggest problem that I see 04:03 sometimes in people's thinking 04:05 is it's all the 04:06 all the things they wish for, 04:08 all the things that they 04:09 you know, 04:10 if I was only doing this 04:11 or doing that, well, 04:11 they can't do all that. 04:13 It's just this 04:13 wishful thinking that, 04:15 oh, I should have done this. 04:16 I should have. 04:16 And if you go through 04:17 your whole list of should of's, 04:19 you would find 04:20 that you've just come up with 04:21 how you're supposed to 04:22 spend 48 hours yesterday. 04:25 It's not possible. 04:26 Right? 04:27 So why are you 04:27 beating yourself up? 04:29 So we ask God to show you 04:30 what He wants you to do. 04:32 And He can work immediately. 04:33 The God of immediacy 04:35 can work in your life. 04:37 So this serenity prayer, 04:38 I think, really has 04:39 some powerful applications 04:41 as far as dealing with stress. 04:43 And Jesus reminds us of this. 04:45 In Matthew's gospel, 04:46 in Matthew 11:28 - 30. 04:51 Come to me 04:52 all you who are weary 04:54 and burdened 04:55 and I will give you rest. 04:56 Take my yoke upon 04:58 you and learn from me, 05:00 for I am 05:01 gentle and humble in heart, 05:03 and you will find 05:04 rest for your souls. 05:05 For my yoke is easy 05:07 and my burden is light. 05:10 Yes. It's a beautiful thing. 05:12 Jesus wants you 05:13 to experience rest in Him. 05:17 So I just want to 05:18 tell you this because, 05:19 you know, sometimes 05:21 it depends on 05:22 who you're hanging out with. 05:23 Depends on what your 05:25 what educational content 05:27 you're consuming 05:28 on the Internet, 05:29 maybe documentaries. 05:31 You know, 05:31 there are many people today 05:33 that are blaming 05:34 religion, blaming 05:35 Christianity, even 05:36 for the world's problems. 05:38 But if you look at 05:39 the wealth of research, 05:40 it actually shows us 05:41 that spirituality, 05:42 and especially biblical 05:44 spirituality, 05:45 is a blessing across 05:48 many domains. 05:49 Let me just show you one 05:50 review recently published, 05:52 just looking at 05:53 some of the things. 05:54 This is actually a study 05:55 of Seventh-Day Adventist 05:56 and some of the 05:57 the context 05:58 that they're giving 05:58 from different 05:59 research studies. 06:01 And when you 06:02 take more time to engage 06:04 in corporate worship, 06:06 when you take more time 06:07 for Bible study and prayer, 06:09 what kind of things happen 06:10 if you look at the research? 06:12 You actually tend 06:13 to live longer. 06:14 You have a 06:15 greater sense of well-being. 06:18 You're suicide rate will 06:20 our suicide rates 06:21 will decrease collectively. 06:23 Better overall health. 06:25 You're more likely 06:26 to be engaged 06:27 in community 06:29 activities, volunteering, 06:31 and you're 06:31 less likely to engage 06:33 in high risk behaviors. 06:35 This is just a sampling 06:37 of some of the things 06:38 that objectively happen 06:41 when people connect with God, 06:42 connect 06:43 with the God of the Bible 06:44 and with true spirituality. 06:49 So back to the word euthus. 06:51 Euthus this immediacy. 06:54 God's timing. 06:55 So euthus challenges 06:57 us to trust in 06:58 God's perfect timing. 07:00 And it also encourages us 07:02 to be men 07:03 and women of action ourselves. 07:06 Okay? 07:07 We need to act 07:08 immediately at times. 07:09 This is the flip side of it. 07:10 So, yes, 07:10 I'm supposed to trust God 07:11 and what He can do that 07:13 I can't do. 07:14 But the other thing is 07:15 I need to be willing to act 07:17 when God asks me to act. 07:20 Let's go back 07:22 to the gospel of Mark 07:25 in Mark 1. 07:27 I want you to realize 07:28 the only way 07:29 that Jesus could accomplish 07:30 what He accomplished 07:31 and the only way that you and I 07:33 could do anything 07:33 good is if we allow the Spirit 07:35 to work in us. 07:37 So you see, just like 07:37 we saw that 07:38 baptism scene, 07:39 we saw the heavens 07:40 being torn open. 07:42 We saw 07:43 Jesus coming out of the water. 07:45 Right? 07:46 We see 07:49 also now 07:50 we're focusing on the Spirit 07:52 coming down like a dove. 07:55 From the outset 07:56 of Jesus ministry, 07:57 the Holy Spirit 07:59 emerges as the efficacious 08:02 power in His ministry. 08:03 That's what gives 08:04 His ministry effectiveness. 08:05 It's the Holy Spirit. 08:06 And you say, Well, 08:07 how does that work? 08:08 I mean, wasn't Jesus God? 08:10 I mean, couldn't 08:10 He just do anything? 08:11 Jesus laid aside 08:13 His divine prerogatives 08:15 and He relied on the Father. 08:17 He relied on the Holy Spirit. 08:22 In Isaiah 08:23 61 there's 08:26 a prophecy 08:26 about the 08:27 ministry of the Messiah. 08:29 Jesus is called to speak, 08:33 and as He is speaking, 08:35 He opens up the book of Isaiah 08:38 and He reads this passage. 08:41 The Spirit of the 08:42 Lord is upon me 08:43 because he has anointed me 08:46 to preach the 08:46 gospel to the poor; 08:48 he has sent me 08:49 to heal the broken hearted, 08:51 to preach deliverance 08:53 to the captives, 08:54 and recovering of sight 08:55 to the blind, 08:56 to set at liberty 08:57 them that are bruised, 08:58 to preach 08:59 the acceptable 09:00 year of the Lord. 09:02 Now, I want you to notice 09:03 something here. 09:04 Jesus is saying 09:06 My ministry is to those 09:07 who are sick, to those 09:08 who need a physician. Right. 09:10 But don't miss 09:10 this other aspect. 09:12 It says 09:13 the Lord has anointed me. 09:17 The Lord has anointed me. 09:20 It's a very significant phrase 09:21 because if you understand 09:23 something about 09:25 the significance of anointing, 09:28 you realize 09:29 this is the essence 09:30 of the Messiah. 09:32 The Messiah 09:33 is the anointed One, 09:35 the Christ 09:36 is the christened 09:37 or the anointed One. 09:39 You're following along? 09:40 So Jesus the Christ 09:41 is the anointed One. 09:42 When was He anointed? 09:43 He we just saw. 09:44 He was anointed at His baptism. 09:47 What's even more 09:48 interesting to me, 09:49 if you realize what Jesus 09:51 read from Isaiah 61, 09:53 He stopped mid-sentence. 09:56 He went up to the point 09:57 where it says to proclaim 09:58 the acceptable 09:59 year of the Lord. 10:00 But if He had continued 10:01 on with verse 3 10:03 He would have read 10:05 and the day of vengeance 10:07 of our God, 10:09 why did He leave that out? 10:11 He is 10:11 preaching a gospel 10:13 of repentance, but it seems 10:16 that Jesus, 10:18 as the Holy Spirit led Him, 10:19 He knew what to share 10:21 and when to share it, 10:23 and the Holy Spirit 10:24 will give you that same wisdom. 10:26 He has a healing ministry. 10:28 Some people aren't ready 10:30 for them to to have the full 10:33 diagnostic evaluation 10:35 performed by you. 10:36 Other times, 10:37 God is impressing you 10:38 to share something with someone 10:40 in a loving way. 10:43 Anointing is at 10:44 the heart of Mark 1. 10:46 In fact, 10:47 it's at the very beginning. 10:48 Because how is Jesus introduced 10:50 in the first verse 10:52 of the Gospel of Mark? 10:53 How is He introduced? 10:55 Look at Mark 1:1 10:57 the beginning of the Gospel of 11:00 Jesus Christ, the anointed one. 11:05 That's what it means. 11:07 So Jesus anointing, 11:08 we see it take place, 11:09 itark's gospel 11:11 starting with the 11:13 baptism of Jesus 11:14 we start seeing this word, 11:15 euthus immediately, 11:17 and now things start to pick up 11:19 in rapid order. 11:20 We see that background. 11:22 And Jesus points 11:24 them to the time 11:26 in which He is living. 11:28 We look very briefly at this. 11:29 The time is fulfilled. 11:31 Why is this 11:31 such a significant thing 11:33 for Jesus to say? 11:35 Some of you have studied 11:36 the Bible prophecies. 11:37 There are many 11:39 Bible time prophecies 11:40 if you've never studied them. 11:41 It's an amazing study. 11:43 Talk with one of us. 11:45 We're happy to study with you, 11:47 or if you like to study 11:48 on your own, 11:48 we can get you some 11:49 material on this. 11:51 Let me just give you 11:51 one other example. 11:53 In the book of Galatians, 11:54 Paul is speaking about 11:55 Jesus coming. 11:56 He says it this way, 11:58 but when the set time 11:59 had fully come, 12:00 God sent his Son 12:02 born of a woman, 12:03 born under the law, 12:04 to redeem 12:05 those under the law, 12:07 that we might receive adoption 12:09 to sonship. He came when? 12:13 When the time had fully come, 12:14 when the set 12:15 time had fully come, 12:16 or when the time 12:17 had been fulfilled. 12:18 What time are they 12:19 all talking about? 12:20 What was Mark talking about? 12:21 What was Paul talking about? 12:25 The most compelling evidence 12:27 suggests that they are 12:28 referring to 12:30 Daniel 9. 12:31 Daniel 9 12:31 introduces us 12:32 to a period of 70 weeks 12:34 special focus 12:35 as far as the baptism 12:36 of Jesus on 69 weeks of years. 12:41 Now I've heard in myself, 12:44 I've taken 12:45 a long time to explain 12:47 Bible time, 12:48 prophecies, you know, 12:49 given, you know, 12:50 one hour meetings or longer 12:51 and feel like I still didn't, 12:53 you know, cover 12:53 all the ground 12:54 that needed to be covered. 12:55 But just by way of review, 12:57 for those of you 12:57 who've studied this 12:58 and to whet your appetite, 12:59 those of you that haven't. 13:01 Daniel 9 is a prophecy 13:03 of 70 weeks. 13:05 It becomes very clear 13:06 as you read through 13:07 that prophecy, 13:08 it's not literal weeks, 13:09 it is prophetic weeks 13:10 or weeks of years. 13:13 And in this prophecy 13:14 it says; Know therefore 13:16 and understand that 13:16 from the going 13:17 forth of the command 13:18 to restore and build Jerusalem 13:21 until Messiah, the Prince, 13:24 there shall be seven weeks 13:26 and sixty-two weeks. 13:28 So seven plus sixty-two, 13:30 sixty-nine weeks 13:31 from this decree 13:32 to the time of Messiah, 13:33 the Prince Messiah. 13:36 In Greek, we'd say, 13:37 Christ, the Prince. 13:38 Okay, speaking about 13:41 when Jesus would come, 13:42 when does 13:42 Jesus become the Christ 13:44 the Messiah? 13:45 It's when He is anointed 13:46 at His baptism. 13:48 If you actually look 13:49 at this prophecy 13:50 and when the dots 13:53 are connected, 13:54 you find that 13:55 the beginning of this time 13:57 prophecy was 457 B.C. 14:00 This was a 14:00 final decree to restore 14:02 and build Jerusalem. 14:04 And according 14:05 to the Old Testament, 14:07 this is the starting 14:08 time for this amazing seventy 14:10 week prophecy, 14:11 the first sixty-nine 14:12 weeks of which point 14:13 to the 14:14 beginning of Jesus ministry. 14:16 And so you say, well, 14:17 what's happening? 14:18 The beginning of his ministry? 14:19 Yes, He's 14:20 baptized and His 14:21 ministry starts. 14:23 And you would say, 14:24 wait a minute, wait a minute, 14:25 How did you do this? 14:27 How did you go 14:27 from sixty-nine 14:29 weeks to sixty-nine 14:30 weeks of years, 14:32 which would be, what? 14:34 483 years. 14:37 You can see some of the verses, 14:39 their Numbers 14 and Ezekiel 4. 14:42 There's a principle 14:43 in Bible prophecy 14:45 that many of the Bible time 14:46 prophecies 14:47 we use a day for a year, 14:50 and that's the basis for now. 14:51 Some people say, 14:51 what do you mean many of them? 14:53 We use it for all of them. 14:54 No, we don't. 14:55 You read about the millennium 14:57 in the book of Revelation. 14:58 We don't think that's a day 15:00 for a year. 15:00 In those day 15:01 for a year prophecies, 15:02 there's always some clue 15:04 that this is not a 15:05 normal reckoning. 15:07 If you have a three 15:07 and a half year old child, 15:08 you don't 15:09 when someone asks 15:09 how old he is, 15:10 you don't say, 15:11 oh, he's 1260 days. 15:13 Okay. 15:13 There's there's 15:14 there's something 15:14 that clues you 15:16 to this 15:16 being a not an unusual number 15:19 that the 15:20 Bible writer 15:21 and that the Holy Spirit 15:22 was trying to say 15:24 look at this 15:25 in terms of the symbols 15:27 and signs I'm giving you. 15:28 So it is that way in Daniel 9. 15:30 As you look through it, it's 15:31 clear biblical symbolism 15:34 and a 483 year period 15:38 doing the math, right? 15:39 Yes, 483 plus seven is 490. 15:42 Okay. 15:43 So you say, okay, 15:44 so we're connecting the dots. 15:46 But 15:48 where does that bring us? 15:50 It brings us to 27 A.D. 15:52 If you go from 457, 15:54 remember, there's no zero year. 15:56 You add those 483 years, 15:58 it'll bring you to 27 A.D. 16:00 And some people say, 16:01 well, Jesus was 30 16:02 when He started his ministry. 16:04 Why are you saying 27 A.D. 16:06 was when Jesus was baptized? 16:08 They didn't have the calendar 16:09 quite right. 16:10 If you actually studied out 16:11 historically, 16:12 Jesus was baptized in 27 A.D. 16:15 This is remarkable. 16:17 There were people studying 16:18 the Bible prophecies now 16:19 you study the Gospels, 16:21 read Luke, especially. 16:22 There were people 16:23 that were looking for 16:24 Jesus to come 16:25 because they understood 16:26 these time prophecies. 16:27 And Jesus comes right on time. 16:30 This God of immediacy, 16:32 this God of urgency, this 16:33 God of a coming kingdom. Now, 16:37 what is 16:38 so interesting 16:39 with this background 16:40 is what happens next 16:41 is it's just rapid sequence. 16:44 So we've been laying 16:45 a foundation 16:45 for the gospel of Mark, 16:46 and Mark 16:47 is laying 16:48 a foundation himself in Mark 1. 16:51 This is really what it's 16:51 all about. 16:52 He lays down these 16:53 these first 14, 16:55 15, 16 verses, 16:56 however you want to 16:57 carve them out. 16:59 And then we come 16:59 down to verse 16 17:02 and we see things 17:03 start happening. 17:04 Jesus has been in 17:05 the wilderness. 17:06 It looked like 17:06 nothing was happening 17:08 at the beginning 17:08 of His ministry. 17:09 And now we start 17:10 seeing this word euthus 17:12 multiple times. 17:13 Immediately. This immediately. 17:15 Then I want you to notice 17:16 something as we first 17:17 look at this 17:18 first bit of action 17:20 in Jesus ministry 17:21 after He's 17:22 given this overview 17:23 of His preaching, 17:24 what His message 17:25 is, He's been out there 17:26 in the wilderness, 17:27 but now 17:28 starting to look at 17:29 the actual stories that Mark 17:31 and that he weaves together 17:33 to give us an idea 17:34 of how the kingdom has come. 17:36 God's reign has begun. 17:37 Satan's power is broken. 17:40 First, notice this. 17:43 Only a heart 17:45 that hardens itself 17:47 to God's voice will not respond 17:50 to the power of God's 17:51 mighty reign. 17:53 Okay, 17:53 so God's 17:54 Word has power, 17:56 but you have a choice. 17:58 And so when we see what happens 18:00 with these disciples 18:02 in Mark 1:16, 18:04 Jesus is walking 18:05 by the Sea of Galilee. 18:07 It says He sees Simon 18:08 and Andrew, his brother. 18:09 They're actually fishing. 18:12 And Jesus says to them, 18:14 ‘Follow me 18:15 and I will make you 18:16 fishers of men 18:17 d what happens? 18:20 It says they immediately 18:22 left their nets 18:23 and followed Him. 18:24 Now, I want you to notice this. 18:25 They didn't say a Hey, 18:27 this is a you're asking a lot, 18:29 you know, let us check our bank 18:31 accounts and all and let's see 18:33 if we've 18:34 got everything together. 18:35 They didn't say, 18:37 Can we think about it? 18:38 Can we have a few weeks? 18:39 You know? 18:39 By the way, 18:40 the one of the pious ways to do 18:42 it is to say, 18:42 let me pray about it. 18:43 Now, that's 18:44 usually a good answer. Okay. 18:45 But if the Holy Spirit 18:47 is telling you to do something, 18:49 that's not the time 18:49 to pray about it, 18:51 They didn't say, 18:51 well, 18:52 can we have a 18:53 40 days of fasting and prayer? 18:55 No, the Holy Spirit 18:58 was speaking through Jesus. 18:59 And what was their response? 19:02 To immediately respond. 19:04 And it's an important message 19:06 because 19:07 you may be looking for healing. 19:08 You may be looking for 19:09 something in your life, 19:10 but the Lord's 19:11 calling you to do something. 19:13 And if the Lord's 19:14 calling you to do something, 19:15 do it right away. 19:17 He will give you the power 19:18 to do it. 19:18 His word 19:19 has that immediacy 19:20 connected with it. 19:21 You say, But I can't do it. 19:23 The Lord's asking you to do it. 19:24 His word will work in you 19:25 and you will do it. Well. 19:27 He goes a little bit further. 19:29 Andrew and Peter, 19:30 they're following Him 19:32 and He sees James and John, 19:33 his brother. 19:34 Now this is really interesting 19:37 because this time 19:38 the immediately is on 19:39 Jesus response. 19:41 Jesus sees them 19:42 and His response 19:43 is to call them immediately. 19:45 So things are happening 19:46 and just fast action. 19:49 He doesn't, you know, try to, 19:51 you know, have small 19:52 talk with them, say, 19:52 you know, how's it going, 19:53 how you know, 19:54 how do you repair fishing nets? 19:55 But the Holy Spirit 19:56 impresses Him to say, 20:00 follow me. 20:01 And what do they do? 20:02 They follow Him 20:03 immediately as well. 20:04 And they leave their 20:05 father, Zebedee, in the boat. 20:06 By the way, 20:08 if you don't know anything 20:09 about Middle Eastern culture, 20:10 this is not 20:11 what you're supposed to do. 20:12 Okay. 20:13 But here's the point. 20:14 Sometimes when God calls, it 20:16 even leads to something 20:18 that could be interpreted 20:20 as not being respectful 20:21 of family values. 20:23 Is that possible? 20:24 It's possible. 20:27 And they leave 20:28 and they follow Jesus. 20:30 So we see Jesus word has power. 20:32 And when those 20:33 individuals don't 20:34 resist it, they respond. 20:38 We come 20:39 now to Mark 1:21 and verse 21. 20:42 It says, 20:43 They go in to Capernaum, 20:44 and immediately on the Sabbath, 20:47 He enters the synagogue 20:49 and He begins teaching. 20:51 And it says 20:52 they were astonished 20:54 at His teaching, 20:55 for He taught them 20:56 as one having authority 20:57 and not as the scribes. 21:00 Some of you have heard 21:00 of the lawyers 21:01 that are referred 21:02 to in the Bible. 21:03 They're not lawyers 21:04 like we think of today. 21:06 They are experts in the law 21:08 and they know 21:09 all the traditions 21:10 about the law 21:10 and they know what this 21:11 great rabbi said 21:12 and that great rabbi said, 21:14 and they could have 21:14 long discussions 21:16 about aspects of the law. 21:17 But when Jesus came, 21:19 His word was with power. Why? 21:21 Because He taught the truth. 21:23 He taught it clearly. 21:25 He taught the word of God. 21:26 And so His word has power 21:29 connecting a few of these dots. 21:30 The Spirit has power. 21:33 Jesus is given the Spirit. 21:34 His word has power. 21:37 And by the way, 21:37 if you're 21:38 listening, 21:39 every one of these things 21:40 you can tap into, 21:42 you can tap into the 21:43 power of the spirit. 21:45 You can tap into God's word. 21:47 You can study His word. 21:48 That word has the same power 21:50 it did 21:51 when Jesus was 21:51 walking on the earth. But 21:56 we see, 21:57 again 21:58 some evidence of violence. 22:01 This time 22:02 it's Satan being violent. 22:04 It's not the response 22:06 of heaven. 22:07 It's the response of Satan. 22:10 And Satan inspires this man. 22:12 This demon possessed man 22:14 who happens to be 22:15 in the synagogue. 22:16 He says to Jesus, Let us alone! 22:17 What have we to do with You, 22:19 Jesus of Nazareth? 22:21 Did You come to destroy us? 22:23 I know who You are-the 22:25 Holy One of God. 22:27 And it's remarkable 22:28 what happens. 22:30 It's remarkable what happens. 22:33 Jesus simply speaks. 22:36 He says, ‘Be quiet 22:37 and come out of him! 22:39 Now, what's 22:40 very interesting to me, 22:42 we talked 22:43 about how the heavens were torn 22:44 open, rent apart. 22:47 There is a similar word 22:48 here, but a different one. 22:51 The word is sparasso. 22:53 Some of the versions say 22:56 this man is torn by the demon. 23:00 It is not the kind of tearing 23:02 that connects us with heaven. 23:04 It's Satan 23:05 trying to tear things down. 23:07 God opens things up 23:09 and gives us access to Him 23:10 and to His power. 23:12 But Satan does what? 23:13 He tries to break us down. 23:15 And so he's doing that 23:16 with this man. 23:17 But the thing is, 23:17 he's in the presence of Jesus. 23:19 And Satan has no power 23:21 when Jesus is present. 23:24 That's all we need to do 23:25 is invite Jesus presence, 23:27 whatever you're dealing with. 23:28 Okay? 23:29 And that demon is gone. 23:31 And it happens 23:32 because of the power 23:34 of His word. 23:35 And what's really interesting, 23:37 the response of the people, 23:38 they don't say, 23:39 Whoa, wow, Jesus 23:40 casting out demons. 23:41 That's not what the focus is. 23:42 The first thing 23:43 out of their mouths. 23:44 Catch it here in Mark 1, 23:46 ‘What new doctrine is this? 23:50 For with authority 23:52 He commands 23:54 even the unclean spirits, 23:56 They're impressed 23:57 with the power of Jesus Word. 23:59 And so here is this 24:00 this healing agency 24:02 that God's given us. 24:03 And we're seeing it 24:04 as it played out 24:04 in the gospel of Mark. 24:06 And we often don't 24:07 avail ourselves of it. 24:09 Immediately this, 24:10 immediately that 24:12 they leave the synagogue 24:13 as soon as they go 24:14 out of the synagogue. 24:15 Where are they? 24:15 They with Peter's 24:17 mother-in-law. 24:18 And when Jesus comes in, 24:20 He sees this woman sick. 24:22 And what does He do? 24:24 He heals her immediately. 24:27 The fever leaves her. 24:28 She's freed. 24:29 She can serve them now. 24:31 This is not a bad thing 24:32 in that culture. 24:33 You wanted to 24:34 serve your guests. 24:35 And now she is restored. 24:37 She's not only 24:38 afebrile, fevers gone, 24:41 but she's also what? 24:43 She's actually whole. 24:45 She's ministering. 24:46 And so this immediacy. 24:48 And then you come to verse 32, 24:52 the sun sets. 24:53 Sabbath is over. 24:54 It's been a busy day. 24:56 And then look at the account. 24:58 It says that the whole city 25:00 gathers together at the door. 25:02 All of Capernaum comes there, 25:04 He heals. 25:04 Many who were sick 25:05 with various diseases. 25:07 He casts out many demons. 25:09 It is amazing. 25:12 And it's despite Jesus 25:14 being up 25:14 likely late, 25:15 late into the night, 25:17 the account ends. 25:21 The account 25:22 ends in an unusual way. 25:23 Yes, He's forbidding 25:24 the demons to speak. 25:25 We'll talk about 25:26 that as we go through 25:27 Mark's gospel. 25:28 It's an amazing aspect to it. 25:30 But what's so amazing is 25:32 Jesus is doing all this healing 25:35 through the power of love. 25:37 That's right. 25:38 Matthew, when he talks 25:40 about the same event, 25:42 He actually quotes from Isaiah 25:45 and He says 25:45 He took our illnesses 25:47 and bore our infirmities. 25:48 The idea here is that 25:50 Jesus only was able to heal. 25:52 He was only able to heal 25:54 because He was giving His life. 25:56 He was committed 25:57 to give His life. 25:58 And He's actually experiencing 26:00 as He's healing. 26:01 He has experienced, 26:02 to a certain extent, 26:03 the pain 26:04 that He is going to suffer 26:05 when He bears 26:05 the sins of the world. 26:07 That's the connection 26:07 that MatHhew makes. 26:10 Well, we need to 26:11 close on an important note, 26:13 because we've been talking 26:14 about the power of healing, 26:16 the immediacy of God's word. 26:19 How the Spirit 26:20 wants to work in your life, 26:21 how the Word wants 26:22 to work in your life. 26:23 And we have to end 26:24 with Jesus example. 26:26 Because Jesus example ends 26:28 Mark 1:35 26:30 with Jesus, 26:31 even after all that busy day 26:33 getting up early 26:34 in the morning and praying, 26:37 and this is a lesson for you 26:39 and me. 26:40 We can connect 26:41 with our loving Father. 26:42 We can connect with the power 26:44 that works immediately 26:45 in our lives, 26:46 but a power 26:47 that also calls 26:47 us to be patient 26:49 in the midst of our challenges. 26:50 Wesee more healing insights 26:52 as we continue our study 26:54 through the gospel of Mark. 26:58 Let's Pray together 26:59 following Jesus녣ample. 27:01 Father in Heaven, 27:02 Thank you For Jesus녣ample, 27:04 Not only was His Word 27:05 with power, 27:06 but He prayed to You. 27:08 Put that on our hearts, 27:09 that desire 27:10 to press close to you, 27:11 to hear Your word 27:12 speaking to us 27:13 every day of our lives 27:15 so that we too 27:16 would be guided by You. 27:18 We ask, in Jesus name, Amen. 27:23 If you haven't already 27:24 taken advantage of it, 27:25 we've got a special offer 27:26 for you for a limited time 27:27 we're offering this DVD set, 8 27:30 30 minute presentations 27:32 going through the 27:33 Gospel of Mark. 27:34 They're different presentations 27:35 than we're airing currently, 27:37 but it is me 27:37 walking you 27:38 through this gospel, 27:39 practical insights. 27:41 If you're a donor 27:42 on our website. 27:43 www.TimlessHealingInsights.org 27:48 and you donate $25 27:50 or more as a one time 27:51 gift or $15 27:53 or more on a monthly basis, 27:55 we will give you this free gift 27:57 as our way of saying thanks. |
