00:22 Welcome to Timeless
00:23 Healing Insights. 00:24 I'm Dr. David DeRose. 00:26 Today, 00:26 we continue a presentation 00:28 that I gave live in 00:29 Fort Wayne, Indiana, 00:30 dealing with the theme of hope 00:32 for the hopeless. 00:33 Let's pray 00:34 as we prepare to begin. 00:36 Father in heaven, 00:37 we want to thank You so much 00:38 that Your Word does minister 00:40 hope to the hearers. 00:42 And yet we realize 00:43 that we are dependent on You 00:44 to bring that Word 00:45 with power to our hearts. 00:47 Please send Your Holy Spirit 00:49 to each viewer, 00:50 to each listener, 00:52 so that they would benefit 00:53 in just the way 00:54 that You want to 00:55 minister to them. 00:56 Thank You 00:56 that we can trust You 00:57 to do that. 00:58 In Jesus name, Amen. 01:02 We're looking at four stories. 01:06 Stories of how Jesus 01:09 steps in to human existence 01:12 and brings 01:12 hope even 01:14 when we're tempted 01:15 to be hopeless. 01:16 We've seen how He did it 01:17 with a storm on the sea. 01:19 We saw how He did it 01:20 with demoniacs. 01:23 Mark only mentions one, 01:25 other gospel accounts 01:26 mentioned that 01:27 there were actually a couple 01:28 in that very setting. 01:29 Apparently 01:30 one more prominent 01:31 than the other 01:31 that Mark shared about. 01:34 But I want to look at one 01:35 other aspect of this story, 01:36 because when Jesus 01:37 is ministering 01:38 hope to the hopeless, sometimes 01:42 there are consequences 01:44 that we may perceive 01:45 as undesirable. 01:46 And this is where we come 01:47 to discussing the topic of pigs 01:50 in church. 01:52 Well, not necessarily 01:53 pigs in the church, 01:54 but talking about the pigs 01:55 in the church. Okay. 01:56 And so we want to talk 01:57 about pigs, because 02:00 to refresh your 02:01 memories, go with me to Mark 5. 02:04 As Jesus 02:05 heals the demoniac, 02:06 in the very act 02:07 of healing this man, 02:09 the legion, and by the way, 02:12 historians tell us a 02:14 legion was about 02:14 6000 individuals. 02:17 Doesnខean 02:19 there were literally 02:20 6000 demons. 02:21 But these 02:22 thousands, likely 02:24 these many demons, 02:26 many demons, 02:27 the Bible account tells us 02:29 there are many. 02:30 That's verse 9 of Mark 5. 02:33 These many demons 02:34 now go into this herd of swine 02:38 that numbered about 2000. 02:40 That is verse 13. 02:41 And that herd, 02:43 when they are possessed, 02:44 run violently down 02:46 into the steep place. 02:47 And by the way, on the 02:50 eastern shore 02:51 of the Sea of Galilee, 02:52 if you were to go there today, 02:53 you would find 02:53 in this very region 02:55 a very steep place 02:56 that meets this description 02:58 exactly. 02:59 It's believed 03:00 where the story took place. 03:01 And that heard runs 03:03 violently down the steep place 03:04 into the sea 03:05 and drowns in the sea. 03:07 Now, here's the thing. 03:09 I don't know if any of 03:10 you trade commodities. I don't. 03:12 So I had to do some research. 03:14 I was wondering 03:14 just how much a pig 03:16 brings to a farmer. 03:17 Today 03:19 the price tends to vary around 03:20 about a dollar a pound. 03:22 So if you 03:23 raise a pig from a piglet stage 03:27 and you get him up 03:28 to about slaughtering weight, 03:29 which today is around 03:30 250 pounds, 03:31 you've got yourself about $250 03:35 that will come into your hand 03:36 as a result of raising 03:37 that pig. 03:38 I know some of you, 03:39 I see the wheels turning. 03:40 You're saying, wow, 03:41 this might be a good, 03:42 you know, income stream. 03:44 I've heard 03:44 these are not necessarily 03:45 the the best 03:47 pets to have in large numbers. 03:49 Okay. 03:49 I know 03:50 maybe some of you have 03:50 your potbellied pig 03:52 in your home. I'm not 03:54 necessarily speaking against 03:56 or in favor of that today. 03:58 But hogs, 03:59 you could see here, typically 04:00 slaughtered at this 04:01 250 pound range. 04:02 We don't know how big 04:03 the hogs were back then. 04:04 The pigs, 04:06 we don't know 04:06 if, you know, 04:07 probably some breeding stock, 04:08 maybe some 04:09 that were being fattened 04:10 for slaughter. 04:10 Let's just make it easy 04:11 on all of us, 04:12 especially your presenter, 04:13 and say the average 04:14 weight of the 2000 pigs 04:16 was 100 pounds each, okay? 04:18 That'll make the 04:19 math simple, right? 04:20 So you got 2000 pigs at 100 04:23 pounds each, a dollar 04:24 a pound, 04:25 that comes out to $200,000 04:29 worth of pork. 04:33 But that figure, 04:35 I mean, 04:36 whether it sounds 04:36 like a big number 04:37 or a small number to you, 04:39 that doesn't do justice 04:40 to what 04:41 we're talking about here. 04:41 This we get the impression 04:43 this is a collective herd. 04:45 There are multiple 04:46 farmers likely 04:48 that have 04:48 their whole livelihood 04:50 tied up in these herds. 04:53 And when those 04:54 2000 rush to their death, 04:56 what are they seeing? 04:58 What would you be seeing? 05:00 I mean, your 05:00 whole business 05:01 just it's like your 05:03 business burning down 05:04 and having no insurance, right? 05:08 Now, you say but, 05:10 Pastor DeRose, 05:12 think about the man 05:14 the demoniac. He's healed. 05:16 We saw this earlier. 05:17 When you get the picture 05:19 of him, thaterse 15, 05:20 the demon possessed man 05:22 who had the legion of demons, 05:24 he is sitting 05:25 and clothed in his right mind. 05:27 What's of more value? 05:29 The healing of a single soul 05:32 or a herd of pigs? 05:35 Now, you might 05:36 say, Well, 05:37 clearly the individual. 05:40 But think about it this way. 05:41 Let's make it 05:43 practical for you. 05:45 Let's say 05:46 we've got a missionary project 05:47 as a church, 05:48 and we could guarantee that 05:50 there'd be one person 05:51 that would come to Jesus. 05:52 They葦e converted 05:53 wholeheartedly. 05:54 How many of you would 05:55 band together, 05:56 sell your business, 05:57 sell your livelihood, sell 05:58 your home, give up everything 06:03 so that that one person 06:04 could be in the kingdom? 06:05 Would it be a good deal? 06:07 Well, you'd say yes, 06:08 but as someone 06:09 pointed out to me 06:10 in the earlier service, 06:11 but you still got to 06:11 live yourself, right? 06:12 And there's other people 06:13 that need to be saved, too. 06:15 And God has said, 06:16 set us here to be witnesses. 06:18 So when you start looking 06:20 at the calculations, 06:21 maybe we can empathize 06:22 with them a little bit, right? 06:24 That this didn't 06:25 necessarily seem 06:26 like all that good a trade. 06:28 But this is where our human 06:31 reasoning often falls short. 06:33 Remember, Jesus is healing. 06:36 He's bringing hope. 06:37 And as He brings 06:37 hope to one person, 06:39 other people 06:40 are looking at this 06:41 as a cause for what? 06:43 Hopelessness. 06:45 And instead of coming to Jesus 06:47 in their hopelessness, 06:49 what do they do? 06:50 Well, just take a look. 06:52 Look at 06:52 how this story really ends. 06:55 It says, verse 17, Mark 5, 06:59 the Bible tells us this. They, 07:02 the herdsmen, 07:04 the people of the town, 07:07 began to plead with Him 07:09 to depart from their region. 07:11 So instead of pressing 07:13 close to Jesus, what? 07:14 They say, get away. 07:17 And what you don't see 07:18 at this point in 07:19 the story 07:20 is how the Gospels play out. 07:23 In Zachariah, we're told, 07:25 do not despise 07:26 the day of small things. 07:28 This may seem like 07:29 a very small thing, 07:30 but this man ends up 07:32 being used by Jesus. 07:33 And when Jesus comes 07:34 back to the Decapolis, 07:36 this region of ten cities, 07:38 there is a great multitude 07:41 that embraces Him 07:42 as their Savior, 07:44 a great multitude. 07:46 Well, that really brings us 07:48 to this last 07:49 aspect of the story 07:50 before we hasten on. 07:51 And that is 07:52 this grateful 07:53 man comes to Jesus. 07:55 We've been looking at prayers. 07:56 His first prayer 07:57 didn't seem to be 07:57 all that good, 07:59 and now his second prayer 08:00 sounds like 08:01 just the prayer 08:02 that we would expect 08:02 someone to pray, a believer. 08:04 And he says, what? 08:06 His prayer, 08:06 it's not recorded in detail, 08:08 it just mentions 08:09 simply, verse 18, 08:11 that he who had been demon 08:13 possessed, begged 08:14 Jesus that 08:15 he might be with Him. 08:16 Jesus, I want to go with You. 08:17 That's the response 08:18 that we're looking for, right? 08:20 And here's what Jesus says. 08:21 Go home. 08:22 Go home to thy friends 08:24 and tell them how great things 08:26 the Lord have done for thee, 08:27 and hath had compassion 08:29 on thee. 08:30 And so when he prayer, prays 08:32 the right prayer, 08:33 that we would say 08:34 is the right prayer, 08:34 what does he do? 08:36 He doesn't get an answer 08:37 the way he wanted. 08:39 And when he prayed 08:40 the wrong prayer, 08:42 God saw his heart 08:43 and gave him what 08:43 he really needed. 08:44 By the way, 08:45 in answer to this prayer, 08:46 He gives him 08:46 what he really needed. 08:48 And I can guarantee you 08:50 that in the Kingdom he's 08:51 going to have no disappointment 08:52 that he didn't go with Jesus 08:54 because there will be hundreds, 08:55 if not thousands 08:56 in the Kingdom, 08:57 maybe even millions, 08:58 as you look at all the 08:59 the ripple effects, 09:01 who are there 09:02 because this man 09:03 listened to Jesus. 09:04 He went back 09:06 and he told 09:07 what great things 09:07 God had done for him. 09:09 He brought hope to his heart. 09:10 He took his hopelessness 09:12 and gave him hope. 09:13 Hopefully this is inspiring you 09:16 that just because 09:17 your prayers don't look like 09:18 they're being answered 09:18 doesn't mean it's 09:19 grounds for hopelessness. 09:20 God might be doing something 09:22 dramatic in your life, 09:23 you just don't see it. 09:29 We've got to go on to 09:29 a third hopeless case 09:31 because we're looking 09:31 at four hopeless cases 09:32 in Mark 4 and Mark 5. 09:35 First, we saw a storm 09:36 where there was no hope. 09:37 Then we saw a 09:38 seemingly hopeless 09:39 demon possessed man. 09:41 And now we're going 09:42 to turn our attention 09:43 to a young girl 09:44 at the point of death. 09:45 Go with me to Mark 09:46 5:21 and onward. 09:49 We are introduced 09:50 there as Jesus comes back 09:53 across the Sea of Galilee. 09:54 He's now going from the east 09:55 back to the western shore, 09:56 and now he's again 09:57 among a largely 09:58 Jewish population. 10:00 A great crowd gathers about Him 10:03 as He's beside the sea 10:04 and one of the rulers 10:05 of the synagogue, 10:06 Jairus makes his way there. 10:08 It says he falls at Jesus놿et. 10:11 Interesting. 10:12 What did the demon 10:13 possessed man do? 10:15 He fell at Jesus놿et. 10:17 Now Jairus does what? 10:18 He falls at Jesus놿et 10:20 and he implores 10:22 Jesus earnestly. 10:23 Listen to the the 10:25 the passion 10:26 in those words. 10:26 He's begging Jesus, 10:29 Jesus, my 10:30 little daughter 10:31 is at the point of death. 10:33 And literally in the Greek, 10:34 that's exactly what it means. 10:35 She is about to die. 10:37 If you were to look at her, 10:38 if you're a medical person 10:40 and you walked in her room, 10:41 you're going to say, 10:44 I mean, this is over. 10:46 She's at the point of death. 10:48 Come and lay Your hands on her 10:50 so that she may be 10:51 made well and live. 10:53 And what does Jesus do? 10:55 Says I'm going. 10:55 I'm on My way. 10:57 Now, this is 11:00 an amazing situation. 11:02 Jairus obviously 11:03 knew that 11:04 Jesus had healed people 11:06 with grave illnesses. 11:07 But to this point 11:08 in Mark's gospel, 11:10 have we read about anyone being 11:11 resurrected from the dead? 11:14 Not on my radar screen, okay. 11:17 If it slipped by, 11:18 you know, pull me aside. 11:19 But I don't see anything. 11:20 Mark 1 through 4. 11:22 No sign of Jesus bringing life 11:26 to the dead. 11:28 So now, now Jairus is thinking. 11:31 I've got a chance. 11:32 While there's still life, 11:33 there is hope. 11:37 Jesus making His way. 11:40 And not only was that 11:41 great crowd thronging Him 11:42 when He came ashore. 11:43 They're still thronging Him. 11:45 Have you ever been 11:46 in a great crowd? 11:50 Yeah, 11:51 some of you have. 11:54 I know there's a certain times 11:56 of year. 11:56 There's a lot of people 11:57 that gather in great crowds. 11:59 One of those days 12:01 happens to be January 1? 12:04 No, December 31. 12:07 And I can remember talking 12:08 to some friends 12:09 who had crowded into Times 12:11 Square in New York City, 12:13 and they told me how 12:14 crowded they were there. 12:17 Believe me, no one was going 12:19 anywhere any time soon. 12:23 Jesus likely was not moving 12:25 very quickly, 12:27 and Jairus 12:28 was probably 12:29 getting very nervous. 12:31 And then Mark tells us 12:34 this fourth story. 12:37 There was a woman 12:38 who had had a discharge 12:40 of blood for 12 years, 12:42 and yet 12:43 she had suffered much 12:44 under many physicians, 12:46 and had spent all that she had, 12:47 and was no better 12:49 but rather grew worse. 12:51 Now you realize that 12:53 many of the gospel writers 12:54 share the same stories. 12:55 Why would you suppose that 12:57 this detail 12:58 about 12:59 spending all this 13:00 and suffering much 13:02 from many physicians 13:03 did not find its way 13:05 into Luke's account? 13:09 You all realize 13:10 Luke was a physician, right? 13:12 He was, you know, 13:12 covering for his 13:13 own profession, 13:14 or at least not 13:14 sharing that detail. 13:17 I don't like that 13:18 detail either as a physician, 13:20 but it sometimes happened. 13:22 But the language, she had what? 13:24 She had suffered 13:25 much under many physicians. 13:26 Some of you're 13:27 being very discrete, 13:28 you're not saying amen, 13:29 I appreciate that. 13:31 But that's at point, right? 13:33 And so what is her malady 13:38 that caused her 13:38 to spend all her money 13:39 and she got no better 13:40 but got worse? 13:41 What was she dealing with? 13:44 Pretty much 13:45 all the commentators agree. 13:46 And by the way, every physician 13:49 that I know 13:50 of who's weighed in on this 13:52 has come to the same conclusion 13:54 that I've come to. 13:55 There's only one thing 13:56 it could be, 13:57 to have an issue of blood 13:58 for 12 years. 13:59 There's no mention of a sore. 14:01 Some people say, well, 14:02 you can have blood coming 14:03 from different places 14:04 in your body. 14:06 But for 12 years, 14:09 I don't know of any. 14:12 You might say, well, 14:13 you know, 14:14 there might be something. 14:15 Well, an issue of blood. 14:19 Okay. 14:20 I'm sure there's 14:21 some physicians 14:21 that might give me 14:22 some other options 14:23 because I can even 14:24 think of some. 14:25 But let's read 14:27 this from the Old Testament. 14:28 When a woman has 14:29 a discharge of blood 14:31 for many days at a time 14:32 other than her monthly period 14:34 or has a discharge 14:35 that continues 14:36 beyond her period, 14:38 she will be unclean 14:40 as long as she has 14:40 the discharge, 14:42 just as in the days 14:43 of her period. 14:44 Any bed 14:44 she lies on while 14:46 her discharge continues 14:48 will be unclean, 14:49 as is her bed 14:50 during her monthly period, 14:51 and anything she sits on 14:53 will be unclean 14:54 as during her period. 14:55 Anyone who touches 14:56 them will be unclean. 14:57 They must wash their clothes 14:59 and bathe with water 15:01 and they will be unclean 15:03 till evening. 15:04 Leviticus 15:25 and onward. 15:08 So what is the consensus 15:10 as to what 15:11 this woman is dealing with? 15:12 She has a 15:14 blood flow from her 15:15 female organs and she is what? 15:18 She is ritually unclean. 15:20 She is not fit to be around 15:22 other people. 15:23 She cannot be around 15:24 her husband. 15:25 She cannot be 15:26 around her family. 15:27 And she's been 15:28 dealing with this for how long? 15:30 12 years. 15:32 Is it a hopeless situation? 15:34 No, wait a minute. Wait. 15:35 Has she gone 15:35 to the best doctors? 15:37 She's been to everybody. 15:38 Everything that 15:39 money could buy. 15:40 She's got no more money. 15:41 She is, you would think, 15:43 she would be hopeless. 15:46 But she hears about Jesus 15:49 and she puts her faith, 15:51 her hope, her trust in Jesus. 15:53 Here's what the account says. 15:54 Verse 27 and onward. 15:56 She had 15:57 heard the reports about Jesus. 16:01 Hope was kindled 16:02 and she comes up behind 16:04 Jesus in the crowd 16:05 and it says, Mark records it, 16:07 she touched His garment. 16:09 For she said, 16:10 If I touch even His garments, 16:12 I shall be made 16:13 well, I'll be made whole. 16:14 The same Greek word 16:15 from the root 16:16 sozo means to be saved. 16:20 And that's what she does. 16:22 But I want you to notice 16:23 something very interesting. 16:25 As we compare 16:26 the parallel accounts 16:28 in Matthew and Luke, 16:30 we found that 16:30 they record a detail 16:32 about the garment 16:33 where she touched the garment. 16:36 Matthew 9:20, depending 16:38 on your translation, 16:39 she ended up touching the edge 16:41 or the fringe 16:43 or the hem of Jesus끹oak. 16:46 They say, Well, 16:46 why is that significant? 16:48 That same word 16:50 you could see 16:51 there in the Greek 16:52 kraspedon, 16:53 this word is used to translate 16:56 a Hebrew term 16:58 in the Old Testament. 17:00 That is transliterated tzitzit. 17:02 That may sound 17:04 like something undesirable, 17:06 but the tzitzit, it's 17:08 according to Numbers 17:08 15 is a very interesting 17:10 aspect of clothing. 17:13 Here's Numbers 15 in the King 17:14 James Version. 17:15 And I have the King 17:16 James Version up for a reason. 17:18 Let me just read it to you. 17:19 The Lord spake to Moses saying 17:20 speak under the children 17:21 of Israel. 17:22 Bid them that they make fringes 17:25 or hems or edges 17:27 in the borders 17:28 of their garments 17:29 throughout their generations, 17:30 and that they put on the 17:31 fringe of the borders 17:33 a ribband of blue. 17:36 And it shall be unto you 17:37 for a fringe 17:38 that you may look upon it 17:40 and remember 17:40 all the commandments 17:41 of the Lord 17:42 and do them, 17:43 and that you seek 17:44 not after your own heart 17:45 and your own eyes, 17:46 after which you used to go 17:48 a whoring: 17:49 that you may remember 17:50 and do all My commandments 17:54 and be holy. 17:57 Be holy unto your God. 17:59 I am the Lord your God, 18:00 which brought you 18:01 out of the land of Egypt, 18:02 to be your God. 18:03 I am the Lord your God. 18:05 What was God asking them to do? 18:07 Many Jewish believers today, 18:08 and many of the 18:09 modern translations, 18:10 they don't translate this 18:12 as a ribbon of blue 18:13 or a ribband of blue 18:15 or a border of blue. 18:16 But they translate it 18:17 as tassels of blue. 18:20 And you might see 18:21 a Jewish prayer 18:23 shawl with tassels 18:25 that they're saying 18:25 that's tzitzit of Numbers 15. 18:29 But I believe and so do 18:30 other commentators 18:31 that a better translation 18:34 and a better application 18:35 would be a hem of blue. 18:37 But now they say, well, 18:37 what does all this mean 18:38 and why is this significant? 18:39 What difference does it make? 18:40 Think about it this way. 18:41 If I were wearing 18:42 a flowing robe 18:44 and it had a border of blue, 18:46 and the border of blue 18:48 was to represent 18:49 my desire 18:50 to keep God's commandments, 18:53 what would happen as I walked? 18:55 Where would that 18:56 border of blue go? 18:57 As I walk, 18:59 it's going to follow me. 19:00 I am going to be surrounded, 19:01 I will be hemmed in. 19:04 I will be bounded 19:05 by God's commandments. 19:07 And the emphasis here in the 19:10 account that we just 19:12 read in 19:14 books is 19:15 the emphasis is on 19:17 I am the Lord 19:18 your God, 19:18 which brought you 19:19 out of the land of Egypt. 19:20 By the way, 19:21 that's how the Ten 19:22 Commandments start. 19:23 So instead of the emphasis 19:25 being on what I've got to do, 19:26 this blue band 19:27 says, tells me 19:27 that I've got to work so hard 19:28 to keep the commandments. 19:29 Well, we do need to choose 19:30 to keep God's commandments. 19:31 But the point is, 19:33 the point is 19:34 that when we 19:35 commit our lives to God, we 19:37 when we 19:38 surrender to His Lordship, 19:40 the commandments follow us. 19:42 God will keep us in that 19:45 realm of walking with Him. 19:48 That's the picture 19:49 it gives to me. 19:49 And so this woman, 19:50 as she reaches out 19:52 and touches 19:53 the hem of His garment, 19:54 first of all, she's doing what? 19:56 How do you touch the hem 19:57 of someone's garment? 19:58 She has to fall down 19:59 at Jesus feet, 20:01 just like the demoniac. 20:03 Just like Jairus. 20:04 They're all 20:05 falling down at Jesus놿et. 20:07 And what is she doing? 20:08 She's connecting with this hem 20:10 that Jesus wore 20:12 because it showed 20:12 He trusted His Father. 20:15 He trusted God's Word. 20:16 And so the woman is connecting 20:18 on the level of faith. 20:20 But this was a dangerous 20:21 thing for her to do. 20:22 Remember, 20:23 she is ritually unclean. 20:25 What were you supposed to do 20:26 if someone ritually unclean 20:28 wanted to come visit 20:29 you in your home? 20:29 What did you say? 20:30 No, not now. 20:33 So she comes into this crowd. 20:34 She comes into the whole press. 20:36 How is she feeling? 20:39 Well, here's how she felt 20:40 after she touched Jesus. 20:42 The Bible tells us 20:43 in Mark 5:29, 20:45 Immediately 20:45 the fountain of her 20:46 blood was dried up. 20:48 Do you catch that picture? 20:49 This is a fountain of blood. 20:53 Do you realize 20:53 if you're losing 20:54 that much blood, 20:55 how you've got to feel? 20:56 I mean, 20:57 she had to be profoundly 20:58 anemic, okay? 21:00 This woman must 21:00 have been terrible 21:02 as far as how she felt. 21:04 Must have felt terrible, 21:05 at least. 21:06 And the way 21:06 people pointed to her, 21:08 she probably 21:09 felt like they were saying 21:10 she was terrible. 21:11 But now 21:12 she's healed of the affliction. 21:14 And Jesus, it 21:15 says, immediately 21:16 knowing in Himself 21:17 that power had gone out of Him. 21:19 He turns around 21:21 and He says 21:21 He looks at this crowd 21:22 pressing all around Him. 21:23 He says, Who 21:24 touched My clothes? 21:26 And what's the response 21:27 of the disciples? 21:29 Look at it there in Mark 5 21:31 when Jesus says this, 21:32 He say, what is going on? 21:36 His disciples, verse 31, 21:38 you see the multitude 21:40 thronging you 21:40 and you say, Who touched me? 21:42 Cᥬ, what are you asking? 21:45 Jesus knew 21:46 that someone had touched Him 21:48 with a touch of faith. 21:50 Now, but just remember, 21:52 this woman 21:53 wanted to slip in and slip out. 21:56 Maybe you've been that way 21:57 in a worship setting before. 21:59 You just want to 22:00 slip in the back 22:01 and slip out 22:01 before anyone 22:02 recognizes that you came in. 22:04 I know there's a smaller church 22:06 than maybe some around, 22:07 and you might say 22:09 was a tougher place 22:09 to slip in and slip out. 22:11 But at least you got two 22:11 doors, okay? 22:13 So I can avoid someone 22:15 by going out whatever door 22:16 they're not near. 22:19 This woman did not 22:21 want to be called out. 22:22 And it seems like there's 22:24 a pause there for a while 22:25 because verse 32 says, 22:27 He looked around to see her 22:30 who had done this thing. 22:31 She didn't immediately 22:31 volunteer it. 22:34 And what does the woman 22:37 finally do? 22:39 She finally, it says, verse 33, 22:43 this woman, 22:44 fearing and trembling, 22:47 knowing 22:48 what had happened to her, 22:49 came and fell down before Him 22:51 and told Him the whole truth. 22:53 What do you think 22:54 she's expecting Jesus to say? 22:56 What is He thinking 22:57 of the crowd? 22:58 What's going to happen? 23:01 What happens? 23:02 Jesus speaks what? 23:05 Peace to her. 23:06 You see it there in Mark 5. 23:08 Look at the words of Jesus. 23:10 He says to her, daughter, 23:11 your faith has made you well. 23:14 It's made you whole. 23:15 You are healed. 23:16 Go in peace 23:18 and be healed of 23:19 your affliction. 23:20 There is no contamination, 23:21 just like in other accounts 23:23 where Jesus touches 23:24 the unclean, 23:24 He doesn't 23:25 receive contamination. 23:26 Contact with Jesus 23:27 brings healing, 23:28 and this woman is healed. 23:30 She's made new. 23:31 But what about the Jairus? 23:33 Remember, that's 23:33 how this story started. 23:35 Jairus is on his way 23:37 with Jesus 23:38 to see that 23:39 his daughter is healed. 23:41 And the word comes. 23:43 The word comes. 23:44 While Jesus 23:44 was still speaking 23:46 to this healed woman, 23:48 there came from Jairus늧me, 23:51 someone who says, 23:53 Your daughter is dead. 23:55 Why trouble the Teacher 23:57 any further? 23:58 What do you think Jairus 24:00 felt at that moment? 24:02 What do you think he felt? 24:03 Like, Why didn't 24:05 Jesus answer my prayer? 24:06 Why didn't He say I got to go? 24:07 This woman 24:07 had a chronic disease. 24:08 12 years, right? 24:09 Come back for her. 24:11 Why did He stop? 24:12 So granted, He didn't stop. 24:14 She touched Him. 24:14 But He stopped. 24:15 He took all that time. 24:16 What was Jesus doing? 24:18 Why don't you say 24:18 I've got to go? 24:19 Why did He have someone? 24:20 Why didn't He tell me, 24:20 Part the crowd? 24:22 I had enough authority, 24:23 I could have parted the crowd. 24:24 They would have moved aside. 24:25 Maybe. Maybe not. 24:28 Why trouble the 24:29 Teacher any further? 24:30 But no sooner 24:31 are those words spoken 24:33 that Jesus hears them. 24:34 And in verse 36 24:35 it says, Jesus overheard this 24:37 and He says to Jairus, 24:39 Don't fear, only believe. 24:43 And as the story plays out, 24:45 Jesus comes 24:47 into the home of Jairus. 24:50 He says those perplexing words 24:52 to many people 24:53 The girl is only sleeping. 24:54 There's no question 24:55 she is dead, okay? 24:56 Clinically dead. 24:58 You don't have 24:59 the hired mourners come in, 25:00 which is obviously 25:01 going on here. 25:02 You don't have the hired 25:03 mourners come in 25:04 unless they are dead. 25:06 You want to save that expense, 25:07 believe me. She is dead. 25:10 Jesus calls death a sleep. 25:13 Why? 25:14 Because even in death, 25:15 He's infusing hope. 25:17 It's not over. 25:18 It's not over when you're dead. 25:20 And then Jesus says 25:22 these words rendered 25:23 in Aramaic, talitha cumi, 25:25 which means damsel arise. 25:28 More literally, 25:29 some say the Aramaic is 25:30 little lamb, wake up. 25:33 Get up. 25:34 Jesus, the Good Shepherd, 25:36 calls His little lamb. 25:37 He wants to do that for you. 25:38 I don't know what 25:39 you're dealing with. 25:40 He wants you 25:41 to arise with hope. 25:42 Even though your situation 25:44 looks hopeless 25:44 and you caught that 25:45 figure there, 12 years. 25:47 It occurred 25:48 there in verse 25 25:49 and in verse 42, 25:51 that girl was 12 years old. 25:52 Here's the point, 25:54 as a lot of points 25:55 that have been made of this. 25:55 But let me make one 25:56 in the context of hope 25:57 and hopelessness. 25:58 The father, Jairus, 25:59 had the whole, 26:00 the joy of being 26:01 in the presence of his daughter 26:02 for 12 years, 26:03 and suddenly that hope is gone. 26:05 She's dead. 26:07 The woman, on the other hand, 26:08 agony for 12 years. 26:09 The bottom line is hopelessness 26:11 can come in short order 26:13 or it 26:13 can come in the long term. 26:15 But when you come to Jesus, 26:17 Jesus brings hope 26:19 in the midst 26:19 of our hopelessness. 26:21 I am so encouraged 26:22 by what God 26:23 is trying to do for me 26:25 and for you 26:26 through the Gospel of Mark. 26:27 He's calling 26:28 for us to make that decision 26:29 no matter what 26:30 our problems are. 26:31 To say, Lord, I'm 26:32 perishing, I'm in trouble. 26:34 I'm struggling 26:34 with hopelessness. 26:35 Because when we come to Jesus, 26:37 He ministers 26:38 what? Hope for the hopeless. 26:42 Hope for the hopeless. 26:44 Jesus truly ministers that. 26:48 wanted to give you 26:48 hope, encouragement 26:50 as you continue 26:51 to press close to Him. 26:53 I also want to remind you 26:54 that we have 26:55 special resources 26:56 at our website, 26:57 TimelessHealingInsights, 26:59 to help you engage 27:00 with this material. 27:01 Please go to the website 27:02 and take advantage 27:03 of the free handouts 27:04 that have all the scriptures. 27:06 Many of my notes 27:07 that go along with 27:08 today's presentation. 27:10 All available 27:11 at TimelessHealingInsights.org. 27:14 If you're dealing with 27:15 special health challenges, 27:17 we also have free programing, 27:18 especially focused on 27:20 chronic health issues 27:21 like carrying extra weight, 27:23 having high blood pressure, 27:25 dealing with diabetes. 27:26 We've got materials 27:27 that can help you there 27:27 at the website. 27:29 Before we leave, 27:30 let me have a special prayer 27:31 with you. 27:32 Father in heaven, 27:33 I want to thank You 27:33 for each listener. 27:35 Thank You for the material 27:36 we've engaged 27:37 with in Your Word. 27:38 And thank You for 27:39 the ministry 27:40 You've blessed us with, 27:41 Timeless Healing Insights. 27:43 Father, please help 27:44 the viewers, 27:45 the listeners connect 27:46 with us there to take advantage 27:48 of all the resources 27:49 that You're helping us 27:50 pull together. 27:51 May we be blessed by Your Word 27:53 and by our practical ministry. 27:55 We ask in Jesus딳me, Amen. |
