00:23 From poisonous snakes to man- eating crocodiles, Australia
00:30 is infamous for its dangerous wild-life. 00:33 With more deadly snakes than any other country worldwide 00:38 It isn't surprising that you might even think that every 00:42 deadly creature is ready and waiting to pounce on you. 00:45 It's true that Australia is notorious for being a menagerie 00:50 of deadly creatures, the box jelly-fish, the blue-ringed 00:55 octopus, and the Inland Taipan are in the top 10 most venomous 01:00 animals of the world and all live in Australia 01:04 and you might be right to be concerned. 01:07 The fear snake or Inland Taipan is generally regarded as 01:12 the world's most venomous snake, one drop of its potent venom 01:16 is enough to kill 100 adults in about 30 minutes. 01:20 A large sting from the highly venomous box jellyfish 01:25 can induce cardiac arrest and kill within a few minutes. 01:29 Then there is the burrowing octopus, it looks harmless 01:34 and is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand 01:38 but it's more toxic than many land-animals, 01:42 its venom could kill 20 adults in just a few minutes. 01:46 Those sharks, spiders, and snakes get the majority of 01:51 bad-press, it's actually the awesome array of predators and 01:55 venomous creatures that have earned Australia its 01:58 fearsome reputation. Join me as we learn more about 02:03 these deadly creatures in Australia and discover 02:06 what is the unexpected and most dangerous encounter of all 02:11 and it's relevant to each and every one of us. 02:29 Over 130,000 people around the world die from snake bites 02:35 every year. This astonishing fact shocks us and generates 02:41 a huge fear of snakes. Now what's surprising 02:45 is that 20 of the 25 most venomous snake species 02:49 live in Australia and with approximately 170 snake species 02:55 sliding and slithering through- out this great southern land 02:58 of which 100 are likely to be venomous, it's easy to see why 03:03 people are afraid. 03:05 The most venomous snake in the world, an epic predator 03:09 of the Australian Outback the Inland Taipan is otherwise 03:14 known as the Fierce Snake and the thought of stepping on 03:18 one of these snakes while walking on the bush 03:21 almost paralyzes people with fear. 03:24 Just one bite from an Inland Taipan snake has enough venom 03:29 to kill 100 adult people, by volume it's the most venomous 03:34 snake in the world to humans. 03:37 But to look at this snake, you would think it was 03:40 harmless. It's a slender snake about 2m long with a shiny 03:45 brown coat of smooth scales and a creamy belly. 03:49 It's found in the Northeast of the inland of Australia 03:53 and is respected because its venom can kill a person in 03:57 such a short period of time. But the good news is that 04:01 they are rarely encountered and there are no recorded deaths 04:05 from the fierce snake. 04:07 Another Australian snake that is included in the top ten 04:11 venomous snakes of the world is the Common Death Adder. 04:15 It is notorious for having the longest fangs and the fastest 04:20 strike of any snake in the world. Its potent toxin 04:25 can cause paralysis or even death within six hours of the 04:30 bite. Now, the Death Adder is around one meter long 04:34 with a thick brown body covered in red and black bands 04:39 and a creamy underside making it the master of camouflage 04:44 in the loose-leaf litter and debris where it lives. 04:47 Surprisingly the Death Adder is mostly found in Sydney 04:52 Bushland in the grasslands of the Eastern Coast 04:55 of Australia. Though most residents of these areas 04:59 would never see one and certainly don't want to see one. 05:03 Over the past 150 years, only 14 people have died 05:09 from a Death Adder snake bite and the last one recorded 05:13 in 1975. 05:15 Now another very dangerous snake in Australia is the 05:19 Eastern Brown Snake, it's included in the Top 10 deadliest 05:23 snakes on earth. And it's responsible for the most 05:27 fatalities of any Australian snake. 05:30 The venom causes paralysis and uncontrollable bleeding. 05:35 This snake is a thin brown snake with a pale yellow belly 05:40 it grows up to two meters in length and lives in the 05:44 open grass and woodlands of Eastern Australia 05:47 where most of the Australian population live. 05:50 The National Coronial Informational Service 05:54 reports that between the year 2000 and 2016, the Brown Snake 06:01 was responsible for 23 of the 35 deaths from snakebite 06:06 in Australia. 06:07 Now let's look at another of the world's most venomous snakes 06:11 the Mainland Tiger Snake. So, if you think you are safe 06:17 in the cooler climbs of Australia, think again. 06:20 This species is potentially fatal to humans and lives in 06:26 Southern Australia including Tasmania. 06:28 It grows to about 1.2 meters in length and has banded patterns 06:34 over its body. These Tiger Snakes have been responsible for 06:39 three known deaths in Australia since the year 2000. 06:43 While it's natural to be frightened of snakes, 06:47 the reality is, the number of deaths from snake bites 06:51 in Australia is very small. Approximately 550 people 06:56 in Australia are admitted to hospitals with snake bites 07:00 each year. But there is only an average of two death per annum. 07:04 Now to put that into perspective the World Health Organization 07:09 estimates that at least 130,000 people die from snake bites 07:14 globally, each year and only two of that 130,000 are from 07:19 Australia. Another land creature that causes a lot 07:24 of anxiety is the spider. 07:26 Many deadly species of spiders live in Australia 07:30 but it is the Sydney Funnel Web Spider that is renowned 07:35 as the world's deadliest spider. 07:37 It is famous for being aggressive and as fangs 07:41 that can even pierce toenails. And its venom can kill an adult 07:47 in less than an hour. Now, what is really unbelievable 07:52 is that the Sydney Funnel Web Spider is found in the 07:55 bushland and beneath logs and bricks in the backyards of 07:59 Sydney Metropolitan Area. It is the male Funnel Web Spider 08:04 that has the toxic bite and has been responsible 08:08 for thirteen known deaths in Australia so beware 08:14 when gardening in the Sydney area. 08:16 And if you thought that you might be safer in or near 08:23 the water in Australia, think again. 08:25 The animal that is considered to be the most dangerous 08:31 animal in Australia and the most likely one to kill a human 08:35 is the Saltwater or Estuarine Crocodile. 08:38 It's an aggressive and territorial animal and is the 08:42 largest reptile in the world in terms of their mass. 08:45 They're known to reach over five to seven meters long 08:49 with heavily armored dark ringed skin and weighing up to 08:53 1,000 kilograms. So, if you are anywhere near a river 08:58 or Estuarine, near the ocean in Australia, then beware. 09:03 There are warning signs at river crossings and estuaries to alert 09:08 you to be careful as you are in the crocodile's habitat, 09:12 in their territory. And if by chance you are attacked by 09:21 one of these monsters, try to escape the water and run. 09:23 And hopefully, you are faster on land than the crocodile is. 09:25 So, is it safer to swim in the beautiful blue waters 09:34 around Australia? Well, yes and no. 09:38 Records show that the Great White is the most dangerous 09:43 shark in Australia with a recorded 314 unprovoked attacks 09:48 on humans. In 2020 Australia was the deadliest location 09:54 for shark attacks in the world with eight fatalities. 09:57 To keep swimmers safe, many beaches have shark nets to deter 10:03 sharks, however, to reduce your risk of shark attacks 10:07 it's always smart to avoid swimming alone at dusk 10:12 in river mouths and a long way offshore. 10:15 The safest place to swim is always between the red 10:19 and yellow flags of the lifeguards. 10:22 But the greatest risk to swimmers at Australian beaches 10:26 is not actually the sharks, but is in fact the dangerous 10:31 strong underwater currents called rips which can drag 10:35 swimmers out to sea. 10:36 These rips are one the greatest and most common hazards 10:40 on Australian beaches. On average, rip currents are 10:45 responsible for at least 21 drowning deaths in Australia 10:49 each year. Thousands of people flock to the white sandy beaches 10:54 every day in Australia, so how can swimming in Australia 10:58 not be safe? 11:00 Well, at certain times of the year it is even totally 11:04 prohibited to swim in the tropical waters because of 11:08 deadly marine species. One of these marine animals 11:12 is the small mollusk, the Blue-ringed Octopus 11:15 found in rock pools and on coral reefs. 11:18 It's a pretty little animal that is only 5 to 20 centimeters 11:24 long but it can be lethal to humans. 11:27 Its venom which is strong enough to kill 20 humans is contained 11:32 in the salivary glands and is passed on when the Octopus 11:36 bites you. Unfortunately there is no antidote, so, 11:41 when you see the warning sign Blue Ringed Octopus, stay away 11:46 from the water. The next deadly marine animal on the coast 11:50 of Australia looks innocuous enough but their stings can 11:55 prove fatal. The small Irukandji Jellyfish has an almost 12:00 transparent bell that is less than 3 cm across and has 12:05 four tentacles up to 1 meter long. 12:08 It is the smallest and one of the deadliest box jellyfish 12:12 in the world. Amazingly it is even able to fire its stingers 12:18 into its victim. 12:19 But this little jellyfish is nothing compared to its cousin 12:24 the Box Jellyfish, it's one of the most venomous marine 12:28 creatures known that actually hunts is prey and can kill 12:32 a healthy adult in minutes. 12:34 Now the box jellyfish is shaped like a box about 20 cm long 12:40 and has tentacles that reach about 3 meters. 12:43 Most box jellyfish have 15 tentacles in each of the four 12:49 corners and each tentacle has about one-half million 12:53 venomous injectors. 12:55 In other words, a single box jellyfish has about 30 million 13:00 venomous stingers. Venom is delivered by millions of tiny 13:05 harpoon-like stinging cells on up to 60 tentacles 13:09 and an encounter is said to be excruciating and cause 13:15 cardiac arrest. This jellyfish is found in northern Australia 13:20 waters during the warm summer months. There are signs on the 13:23 beaches to warns swimmers of the box jellyfish. 13:26 Since records have been kept, more than 66 deaths from the 13:32 box jellyfish are listed. 13:34 Yes, Australia appears to be an extremely scary place, 13:39 how can you possibly expect to survive? 13:43 Well, as it turns out, even though Australia is home 13:48 to a wide variety of dangerous wildlife's not what it seems, 13:53 Australia has got snakes, spiders, sharks, crocodiles, 13:58 killer jellyfish and a whole host of other venomous creatures. 14:02 But look on the bright side, at least we don't have lions, 14:07 tigers, elephants, grizzly bears, or hippopotamus wandering around 14:11 in the bush too. 14:13 Now this is another surprising statistic. 14:17 Around 400 tourists to Australia encounters a fatal 14:20 catastrophe during their visit to the land down under each year. 14:25 That's more than one a day but although Australia is famed 14:29 for having some of the most dangerous animals in the world. 14:32 Statistically speaking you're unlikely to be killed by an 14:37 animal here in Australia, you're much more likely 14:41 to become a statistic in a road accident or swimming 14:44 at one of beautiful beaches than you are to be attacked 14:48 by a wild animal. In fact if you are really worried about 14:54 dangerous animals in Australia, your best bet is to give 14:57 horse-riding on this. Horses and cows kill the most humans 15:02 every year of any animals. In fact, in Australia horses 15:07 and cows have killed 77 people between 2008 and 2017, 15:14 that's far more people than any other animal. 15:18 And what is even more surprising is that the much-loved icon 15:23 of Australia, the kangaroo that is not even considered 15:27 a danger to anyone has been responsible for 60 deaths by 15:31 road accidents in the past nine years. 15:34 That's more than any of the 10 of the most deadly and dangerous 15:38 animals in Australia. 15:40 So although Australia has got the most venomous species of 15:45 land snake, snakes are well down the list of causing deaths. 15:49 Snake deaths in Australia average out at less than 15:53 two per year, nobody in Australia has died from a 15:56 spider bite since 1979. After the successful introduction 16:02 of anti-venom for all native species. 16:05 The crocodile population is on the rise following the ban 16:10 on crocodile hunting. So since 1985 there have been 34 attacks 16:16 and 11 fatalities. the Blue- ringed octopus has caused 16:21 three deaths in the last century. 16:23 But the real killer is the Box jellyfish, it has caused 16:28 66 deaths since records began in 1883. That's about one death 16:35 every two years. 16:36 So sometimes the least expected animal is the most deadly, 16:42 the one we don't see or the one that doesn't have the aggressive 16:46 reputation. Let's also look at these surprising figures 16:51 from the National Coronial Information System, the NCIS 16:55 that records unexpected deaths in Australia. 16:59 It shows that on the average 248 people die from drowning 17:04 every year and 1,195 lose their lives in road accident 17:11 deaths during the same period. These numbers are far higher 17:16 than any attack by a deadly animal. 17:19 So, sometimes it could be hard to tell the difference between 17:24 what is deadly and dangerous and what isn't. 17:27 And as we have seen it isn't always a wild animal 17:32 that causes fatality. Now as deadly as these ten animals 17:37 are, there is a far more deadly of course that we encounter 17:41 every day in our lives. 17:44 I'm sure you have been watching and reading the news lately 17:50 the images are startling aren't they? 17:53 People attacks, fatal car accidents, riots, deadly viruses, 17:59 brawls, terrorist attacks, family tragedies... 18:03 It's a constant reminder that we are living in a sad and 18:08 violent world and after every news release, we might sometimes 18:13 ask the question why is this happening? 18:16 Who is responsible, what is the source of all these terrible 18:21 events and deaths? And more importantly how will it all end? 18:27 So, how did evil, violence, and destruction begin in our 18:32 world? Well, surprisingly, it all began in heaven, 18:36 yes, in heaven all the evil anger and bloodshed that 18:42 we see in our world today had its origin in heaven, 18:46 here's what happened. 18:48 God created the angels and the leader of these angels in heaven 18:54 was named Lucifer, he was beautiful and charismatic 18:59 but his heart was filled with pride, he wasn't happy 19:03 just being the leading angel, he wanted to be God. 19:07 He desired to take the place of God and when that didn't 19:11 happen he rebelled against God. 19:14 Lucifer gathered his followers around him, a third of all 19:18 the angels joined his ranks and rebelled against God. 19:22 This amazing angel Lucifer and his followers fought against God 19:28 but Lucifer and his angels lost the battle and were 19:32 thrown out of heaven. Let's read what the Bible says in 19:36 Revelation 12: 7 to 8. 19:54 Now, the question is where did they go? 19:58 And what are they doing? 19:59 Well, all the evil conflict and strife around us tells us where 20:05 Lucifer and his angels ended up. Yes! On earth, 20:10 our earth, right here where we live but there were 20:15 consequences for his rebellion in heaven. 20:17 Lucifer didn't get away with his disobedience and rebellion, 20:21 he is no longer Lucifer the first angel, his name is now 20:27 the devil, the enemy of God. 20:29 Now the Greek word for devil is Diablos which means to split 20:35 and that is exactly what the devil is, a splitter, 20:40 a divider, a wedge driver, he divided Adam and Eve 20:46 from God in the Garden of Eden. Instead of a daily walk with God, 20:51 Adam and Eve felt ashamed of what they had done. 20:54 They tried to hide from God and Satan has every intent 21:00 of doing the same to you, he rebelled against God 21:05 and wants you and me to do the same. He wants us to think God 21:10 doesn't care for us, he wants us to think God is a tyrant. 21:14 He wants us to think God is behind all the catastrophes 21:18 and evil in the world. The Bible tells us, what Satan 21:23 is now doing, in 1 Peter 5:8 we read... 21:37 Satan is on the prowl, he has many strategies and tricks 21:42 to destroy us, he's cunning, he's subtle, he's smart, 21:46 he is far smarter than we are. Satan is trying to create chaos 21:52 distractions and destruction in our relationships 21:56 and everywhere in the world, in every quarrel, riot, 22:00 war and violent act an unseen spiritual war is going on behind 22:06 the scenes. Satan is the mastermind of destruction 22:10 and one of his favorite tricks is to create the toxic feelings 22:15 of unworthiness that overwhelm us. We feel unworthy, 22:20 we feel alone, we feel isolated, we constantly compare ourselves 22:26 to others and we come up wanting, we are plagued by 22:30 self-doubt and feel defeated by events in our lives, 22:35 we feel inferior to our friends, workmates, and family, 22:40 we find ourselves constantly replaying our regrets in life, 22:44 they cause such negative feelings and we find solace 22:49 in places and activities that are even more damaging to us. 22:54 These feelings of unworthiness and inadequacy are Satan's 22:59 simplest tricks to get us to feel that God doesn't 23:03 really care about us. 23:04 Satan wants us to follow his lead and rebel against God 23:08 to blame God for what is happening and to reject God's 23:13 love and His plan for our lives, this is a war for allegiance 23:18 and control of the minds of every man, woman, and child 23:23 on planet earth. And creating low self-esteem is one of the 23:28 most effective tactics that Satan uses to tear us down. 23:32 His greatest desire is to damage and destroy our lives 23:38 and he uses many nefarious ways to make us feel inadequate and 23:43 unworthy, under-valued and separated from God's love. 23:47 He wants to steal your peace, kill your dreams to destroy 23:53 your future, so, Satan is no laughing matter, he hates you, 23:58 he wants to destroy you, your marriage, your family, 24:02 carrier, finances, and life, you won't have peace in your 24:07 life if you think you are just fighting or contending 24:10 with another person when conflict arises, 24:13 you are fighting against Satan, against powerful spiritual 24:18 forces, the forces of darkness. He's behind the scenes taking 24:24 every opportunity to produce conflict in our lives. 24:28 Satan's insights persuades, binds and rules and you'll 24:34 never to think you'll outsmart Satan by yourself. 24:37 So, how do you fight against this kind of power? 24:42 How do you defend yourself? How do you get the victory? 24:47 Well, there is only one way to escape the clutches of Satan. 24:53 Even though you were born into a cosmic battle between 24:57 good and evil, you are born to win because Jesus loves you 25:02 and has become your defense. 25:05 He's already defeated the devil at the Cross of Calvary, 25:08 He's acted on your behalf and by accepting Him, his victory 25:15 becomes your victory. 25:18 God wants us to feel loved, He wants us to be successful. 25:23 God wants us to have strong personal relationships 25:28 He wants us to feel worthy, He wants us to feel special, 25:32 so, one of the best ways to counteract Satan's attack 25:37 on you and to overcome is to read the Bible and start 25:41 believing what God says about you in His plan for your life. 25:46 Do you know what God thinks about you? 25:49 Well, here it is. 26:02 And here's the really good news, Jesus is returning soon 26:08 to this earth to end all of the suffering and pain and to destroy 26:12 sin and Satan forever. 26:14 And Jesus is going to take us to live with Him forever... 26:19 forever, in a perfect environment where there will be 26:24 no more deadly animals, no more pain, no more suffering, 26:29 and no more death. 26:31 If you would like to know more about Jesus and how to have 26:36 a relationship with Him, if you would like to experience 26:39 lasting peace and happiness in your life then I'd like to 26:44 recommend the free gift we have for all our Incredible Journey 26:48 viewers today.
