00:23 It was the most momentous event of the 21st century
00:28 and one of the biggest single gatherings of world leaders 00:32 politicians, and royalty in history. 00:35 Five hundred foreign dignitaries, 4,000 service 00:39 personnel and billions of people watching 00:42 around the world. 00:43 The event, Queen Elizabeth II's State Funeral. 00:48 Queen Elizabeth the Second, the United Kingdom's longest 00:53 living Monarch died on Thursday the 8th of September, 2022, 00:58 age 96 after reigning for 70 years. 01:01 She died peacefully surrounded by her family at 01:05 Balmoral Castle in Scotland 01:08 few alive anywhere in the world had witnessed 01:11 anything like the carefully orchestrated and detailed plan 01:16 for a final farewell including gun salutes, Royal Carriages, 01:21 bells peeling across United Kingdom and millions gathering 01:25 to pay tribute. The queen was brought to Westminster Hold 01:29 from Buckingham Palace in a slow procession accompanied 01:33 by a military parade and members of the royal family. 01:36 She lay in state in West Minister Hall 01:39 for four days. Her coffin was then carried from 01:43 West Minister Hall to West Minister Abbey 01:46 on the state gun carriage of the Royal Navy 01:49 where her state funeral took place on the 19th of September 01:53 2022. Following the funeral service the queen's coffin was 01:59 drawn in a walking procession from the Abbey to 02:03 Wellington Arch at London's High Path 02:06 before heading to Windsor by hearse. 02:08 The queen's coffin made its final journey to 02:11 St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle where it ended 02:15 St. George's Chapel for a committal service 02:17 and was then lowered in the Royal Vault before being 02:21 interred in the King George 6th Memorial Chapel located inside 02:26 St. George's Chapel. 02:28 The reaction to the queen's death was both global, national, 02:33 and personal. There was a world-wide outpouring of grief 02:37 showing on Social Media and News Broadcasts 02:40 around the world. 02:42 Over a million people queued for hours to view her coffin 02:46 and members of the public laid flowers at Royal Residences 02:50 around the country. 02:51 However, many found comfort in the fact that the year of 02:55 the queen's death also saw the greatest celebration of 02:59 her life, her Platinum Jubilee. 03:02 Join me as we re-experience The Platinum Jubilee 03:07 and investigate what made Queen Elizabeth the Second great 03:12 and discover the power and anchor behind her reign 03:16 and as we do so we may find and anchor 03:19 for our lives as well. 03:43 It was one of London's most memorable events 03:46 Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee Celebration. 03:49 On the 6th of February 2022, Queen Elizabeth II became 03:55 the longest-reigning monarch in British history. 03:58 She was the first to ever celebrate a Platinum Jubilee 04:02 marking a 70-year reign and to celebrate this 04:06 unprecedented anniversary Britain pulled out all the stops. 04:11 Events and initiatives took place throughout the first half of the 04:14 year culminating in a four-day holiday weekend in early June. 04:19 Street parties and big Jubilee lunches were staged 04:24 across the country was nearly a quarter of a million events 04:28 taking place in total. The UK threw a once in a once-in-a- 04:33 generation celebration to honor and thank the queen. 04:37 Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee was the celebration of 04:43 one of the very few 70 reigns in history. 04:46 Only three monarchs are documented to have reigned 04:50 more than 70 years, Louie the XIV of France, Yohann II of 04:55 Liechtenstein, and Bhumibol of Thailand. 04:58 Royal Jubilee's celebrate significant periods in the 05:03 reign of a Monarch in the nation, Golden Jubilee's for 05:07 50-year reigns are very rare and few British Monarchs 05:11 have reigned for that long. 05:13 The first British Monarch to mark 50 years on the throne 05:17 was King George III on the 25th of October 1809. 05:22 And the second monarch was his granddaughter 05:26 Queen Victoria, now King George the third had four sons 05:30 and the future Queen Victoria was the only daughter of 05:34 Edward Duke of Kent, the 4th and youngest son of 05:38 King George III, so she didn't really have a very good chance 05:43 of ever gaining the throne. 05:45 But Victoria's three uncles who each had a claim to the throne 05:50 all died young and had no surviving heirs and Victoria's 05:54 own father died shortly after her birth and so she suddenly 05:59 became heir to the British throne and became queen when she was 06:05 only 18 years old. Her long reign and legacy in the 1800's 06:09 is now known as the Victorian Era and was marked by the 06:14 expansion of the British Empire which covered a fifth 06:17 of the earth's surface by the end of the century. 06:20 In June 1887 Queen Victoria celebrated her Golden Jubilee 06:26 and then 10 years later it was followed by her 06:30 Diamond Jubilee in June of 1897. Queen Victoria reigned for 06:36 63 years, a record that many thought would last forever. 06:41 But Queen Elizabeth II created a new record, she had significant 06:47 Jubilee Celebrations in 1977 for her Silver Jubilee, 06:52 in 2002 for her Golden Jubilee, and then in 2012 for her 06:58 Diamond Jubilee, but 2022 was the real record breaker. 07:04 It was a Platinum Jubilee, it was a truly 07:08 remarkable achievement. 07:10 Like Queen Victoria before her, Elizabeth never expected to 07:15 become the ruling monarch even her grandfather King George V 07:20 the grandson of Queen Victoria was born third in the line 07:24 of succession and didn't expect to become king. 07:27 Now, their all family name at this time was a German one, 07:32 Saxe-Coburg Gotha but due to the friction during the 07:37 1st World War, George the Fifth 07:39 changed the family name and became 07:42 the first Monarch of the House of Windsor. 07:45 King George V ruled from 1910 until his death in1936 07:51 he and his wife Mary had six children, five sons 07:56 Edward, Albert, Henry, George, and John, and one daughter 08:01 Mary. Queen Elizabeth's father was the second son Albert 08:06 and he didn't expect to be king. King George V had a poor 08:11 relationship with his elder son and heir Edward and was 08:15 disappointed in Edwards' failure to settle down in life. 08:19 But by contrast King George was fond of his second son 08:24 Prince Albert and doted on his eldest granddaughter 08:27 Princess Elizabeth, King George V even nicknamed 08:31 her Lillybet and she affectionately called him 08:35 Grandpa England. 08:37 After King George the Fifth's death in 1936, his eldest son 08:42 became King Edward VIII but he only ruled for six months. 08:47 You may remember the story of how Edward fell in love with 08:51 Wallace Simpson and American divorcee and therefore was not 08:55 someone the ruler of the British couldn't marry. 08:59 So Edward had to make the unenviable choice between 09:03 marrying Wallace Simpson or keeping the throne. 09:07 He chose Wallace and abdicated or gave up his right to be king 09:12 in December 1936. 09:14 Now, the next in line for the throne was Elizabeth's father 09:19 Prince Albert unexpectantly the second son Albert was then 09:24 crowned King George the sixth on the 12th of May 1937. 09:30 His daughter Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born on the 09:34 21st of April 1926, Elizabeth and her younger sister Margaret 09:40 spent their childhood in a larger house in London. 09:43 They didn't go to school but were taught by a governess 09:46 Marion Crawford, the princess was instructed in history, 09:51 music and languages. 09:53 Elizabeth's life changed when her father was crowned 09:57 King George VI, the family moved to the Royal Residence 10:01 here Buckingham Palace and as the elder of the King's 10:06 daughter Elizabeth knew that one day she would be Queen. 10:10 During World War II when London was being bombed and many 10:15 children were evacuated to the country, young Elizabeth 10:19 was asked to make a radio broadcast to the nation. 10:22 So, the 14 year-old princess gave them a calm firm 10:28 reassurance, the British would always remember her words. 10:32 We know, every one of us that in the end, all will be well 10:38 for God will care for us and give us victory and peace. 10:44 Elizabeth was only 8 years old when she first met the young 10:49 Phillip Mountbatten at a family wedding in 1934, then in 1939 10:55 when Elizabeth was 13, they met again at the Royal Naval College 11:00 where Phillip was an 18-year-old cadet, they soon became friends 11:05 and in 1947 when Elizabeth turned 21 they were engaged. 11:10 Elizabeth and Phillip were married on the 20th of 11:14 November 1947 in West Minister Abbey and the Royal Wedding 11:19 Service was broadcast on radio around the world. 11:23 While Elizabeth and Phillip were on an official visit to 11:27 Kenya in1952, King George VI suddenly died. 11:32 Elizabeth was heir to the throne and her coronation took place 11:37 in West Minister Abbey on the 2nd of June, 1953 in front of 11:42 eight thousand guests. This was the first time an 11:46 English Coronation Ceremony was broadcast on television. 11:50 More than 20 million people around the world witnessed 11:54 pomp and spectacle of the event. Together Elizabeth and Phillip 12:00 had four children Charles, Prince of Wales, 12:03 Ann, Princess Royal, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, 12:08 and Prince Edward, Earl of Essex and of since welcomed 12:13 grandchildren and great- grandchildren. 12:15 After 73 years of marriage, Prince Phillip passed away 12:20 the 9th of April, 2021 at 99 years of age. 12:25 In June 2002 when the queen celebrated her Golden Jubilee, 12:32 50 years on the throne, the celebrations began with the 12:36 traditional queen's birthday parade and the 12:39 Trooping of the Color. Also during the queen's birthday 12:43 parade, a royal gun salute was fired. 12:46 Then once the parade ended and the Royal Procession returned 12:50 to Buckingham Palace for the royal family's traditional 12:53 balcony appearance including and impressive fly past. 12:58 Then 10 years later in 2012 Queen Elizabeth celebrated 13:03 her Diamond Jubilee, 60 years on the throne of England. 13:07 One of the Diamond Jubilee's events was when Queen Elizabeth 13:12 went to St. Paul's Cathedral in London on the last day's 13:15 celebration. A loud fanfare sounded as she approached 13:20 the West Steps, thousands waived and shouted as she 13:24 slowly into the place of worship. 13:27 The Honorable Core of Gentlemen at Arms escorted her through 13:31 the Naive and these words ascended as the choir sang 13:36 the introit. 13:50 The United Kingdom also has a long tradition of 13:55 lighting beacons for celebrating Royal Jubilee's. 13:58 A beacon chain has now become a symbol of unity across towns, 14:03 countries, continents and if often the central point of 14:07 for any outdoor gathering or celebration. 14:11 In 1897, beacons were lit to celebrate Queen Victoria's 14:16 Diamond Jubilee, the beacons again commemorated the Silver, 14:24 and in 2016, for Her Majesty's 90th Birthday. 14:29 Then, over 1,500 beacons were lit throughout the 14:34 United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Mann, and the UK 14:38 Overseas Territories for the Platinum Jubilee. 14:41 The Queen's Platinum Jubilee captivated the nation and 14:46 the world, it's well-known that the queen was fond of 14:49 horses so a very special event was planned on the grounds of 14:53 Windsor Castle. More than 500 horses and 1,000 performers 14:59 created 90 minutes of spell binding arena theater 15:03 that included actors and artists musicians, dancers, 15:08 and global equestrian and international military displays. 15:12 Then, as we noted earlier, there was a very special service 15:16 of thanksgiving for the queen's reign held at 15:19 St. Paul's Cathedral. 15:20 The largest church bell in the country called Great Paul 15:25 was built in 1882 and as it was such a special event 15:29 it was rung for the Royal Service. 15:32 Elizabeth's reign spanned 70 years when she welcomed 15:38 President's Biden to Windsor Castle in June 2020, 15:41 he became the thirteenth American President to meet her 15:46 she's met every president since Harry Truman except 15:50 Lyndon B. Johnson. 15:52 One of the queen's many roles was to hold weekly meetings 15:56 with England's Prime Ministers beginning with Winston Churchill 15:59 and now Liz Truss, that's 15 Prime Ministers of the UK 16:06 that she had worked with. 16:07 Now that's a record fit for a queen. 16:11 Queen Elizabeth worked tirelessly to protect the image 16:16 of the Monarchy in her many traditional and ceremonial 16:20 duties although she had to weather the many stormy periods 16:24 in her family, she still managed to keep the Monarchy 16:27 as a unifying symbol of stability, constitutional 16:31 democracy and goodwill. A reflection of what is the best 16:36 in the British tradition. 16:38 Queen Elizabeth also holds seven official Guinness World Records. 16:43 Apart from being the Queen of England, these records 16:47 set her apart from having achieved something incredible. 16:51 The queen holds other world records as well. 16:54 She's the longest-reigning queen of England and is the longest 16:58 reigning queen in the world as well as being the oldest 17:02 queen in all history. In addition, she was one of the 17:06 most photographed Monarch's ever. 17:09 Queen Elizabeth the second also holds the world's 17:12 record for the most currencies that have featured the same 17:16 individuals image. The queens face or profile has appeared 17:20 on the coinage of at least 45 different counties 17:23 that's more than any other living Monarch. 17:26 She was also the wealthiest queen with a net worth of over 17:32 a half a billion dollars. Her vast wealth includes collections 17:36 of fine art, jewelry, and property in England 17:40 and Scotland. 17:41 Another of the queen's records is the largest parade of boats 17:46 that took part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. 17:49 Six hundred and seventy boats turned out for the 3rd of June 17:52 2012 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth the second 17:56 her 60th anniversary as Monarch. 18:00 The queen had been a constant figure in the British nation 18:05 she was loved and admired by many and was the only Monarch 18:09 that 85% of the British population had ever known. 18:14 It has been said that Elizabeth the second understood the should 18:19 of the people. She had a strong Christian faith that had been 18:24 evident throughout her life in both her words and deeds 18:26 as well as the formal role as defender of the faith 18:30 and supreme governor of the Church of England which came 18:34 with the Monarchy. Her personal faith was evident even before 18:38 she was crowned. 18:40 At the Christmas broadcast in December 1952, 18:44 the young Princess Elizabeth was asked to make 18:47 a prayer request. She said, 19:02 Her Christmas broadcast to The Commonwealth were among 19:07 the few speeches she wrote herself, they frequently 19:11 referred to Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity 19:14 whose birth is celebrated at Christmas. 19:17 Alongside of her official role as head of the Church of England 19:21 the queen expressed a personal faith in Jesus Christ. 19:26 As she said in her Christmas broadcast in December 2000 19:41 The queen was crowned in a deeply symbolic church service 19:44 first of eyes way back in A.D. 973 and includes prayers 19:49 and a service of Holy Communion. 19:51 The orb, scepter, ring, and crown used in the ceremony 19:56 each include a cross to symbolize the rule of 19:59 Jesus Christ over the world. A Bible was also presented 20:04 during the Coronation and described as the most valuable 20:08 thing that this world affords. 20:10 Perhaps the most sacred moment at the heart of the 20:13 Coronation Ceremony is the anointing when the symbols 20:17 of the royal status are removed the queen sitting under a canopy 20:22 is dressed in a simple white dress with no jewels or crown 20:27 as the archbishop anoints her with oil, the prayers said 20:31 said over her, invited God's Holy Spirit to set her apart as 20:36 God's servant. 20:37 The theme of this service runs throughout the Coronation 20:41 and during the queen's long reign she had been inspired 20:44 by the life of Jesus Christ whose said of himself 20:48 He did not come to be served but to serve. 20:52 In 2008 the queen said, 21:20 The queen often referred to this service in her speeches 21:25 in four of her Christmas broadcasts she talked about 21:29 the parable Jesus told of a good Samaritan. 21:32 In 1985 she said, 21:45 Then in 1989, she spoke how her husband the Duke of 21:49 Edinburgh shared her Christian faith and sense of duty. 21:54 She said, 22:03 Jesus told the wonderful story of a man traveling from 22:08 Jerusalem to Jericho who was attacked and left injured 22:12 on the side of the road, several important people saw him 22:16 and passed by without stopping to help, but one man did stop 22:20 a despised Samaritan man who cared for the injured 22:25 made sure he was being well looked after at the local hotel 22:29 before he resumed his journey. 22:31 It's not very difficult to apply the story to our own times 22:35 and to work out that our neighbors are our friends 22:39 or even complete strangers who need a helping hand 22:43 in time of need. 22:45 This would be a wonderful thing if we applied the message 22:48 of kindness and love to those we meet. 22:50 Then in the 2020 broadcast on Christmas Eve from Windsor 22:55 Castle where she had been isolating with Prince Phillip 22:59 due to the Covid 19 Pandemic she said, 23:13 As well as talking about her faith and attending church 23:16 services in an official capacity the queen worships privately 23:21 as well. She has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 23:25 In 1992 in a speech to mark the 40th Anniversary of her 23:30 ascension, she thanked all those who had prayed for her 23:34 and said that those prayers sustained me through all these 23:38 years. Her personal faith also prompted her to work for peace 23:43 and reconciliation internationally and in her own 23:46 family. 23:47 In 2011, she said, 24:05 Throughout her long life Queen Elizabeth the Second led a 24:09 dutiful faithful life of service. 24:11 It seems the prayer at the start of her reign 24:15 has been answered. In 2012 she concluded her Christmas 24:19 broadcast by praying for people and inviting a 24:23 practical response to Jesus' message of love. 24:26 Here is what she said. 24:59 We live in a world plagued by conflict, violence, scandals, 25:04 and political disasters so there was something quite refreshing 25:08 and inspiring about a queen of peace and goodwill 25:12 devoted to her people who embodied of rich tradition 25:15 of faith and service. 25:17 One of Queen Elizabeth's favorite Christian Hymn's 25:21 was the well-known and much loved song The Lord is my 25:25 Shepherd. This beautiful hymn is both reverent and uplifting. 25:45 What beautiful words, words about Jesus, the Good Shepherd 25:49 who cares for us, protects us, and guides our lives, 25:53 words that the queen loved and appreciated throughout 25:57 her reign. 25:58 If you would like to find the same faith and hope in 26:01 your life, if you'd like the guidance and protection of God 26:04 in your life, then I'd like to recommend the free gift 26:07 we have for all our Incredible Journey viewers today. 26:12 It's the inspiring booklet about the Good Shepherd called 26:16 The 23rd Psalm. 26:18 This uplifting booklet will share with you simple ways 26:22 to open your life to the Good Shepherd and allow Him to bring 26:26 you true inner peace and happiness. 26:28 This booklet is our gift to you and is absolutely free, 26:32 there are no costs or obligations what-so-ever. 26:35 So, make the most of this wonderful opportunity 26:38 to find peace in your life. 26:41 Phone or text 0436.333.555 in Australia or 020.422.2042 26:51 in New Zealand, or visit our website TIJ.tv or simply scan 26:57 the QR Code on your screen and we'll send you today's 27:00 free offer, totally free of charge and with no obligation. 27:04 Write to us at GPO Box 274 Sydney NSW 2001, Australia 27:11 or PO Box 76673 Manikau Auckland 2241 New Zealand. 27:18 Don't delay, call or text us now. 27:23 If you've enjoyed our journey to London in memory of a great 27:28 queen that was loved and respected by her country 27:31 and many people around the world and our reflections on the 27:35 anchor in her life then be sure to join us again next week 27:39 when we will share another of life's journey's together 27:42 until then, let's pray to the Good Shepherd and ask Him 27:47 to lead and guide our lives and bless us and our families. 27:52 Dear Heavenly Father, We thank you for Queen Elizabeth 27:56 the 2nd the second and the example of a life of service. 28:00 that she has given the world like her, may we put our faith 28:05 and trust in You.
