00:13 I've noticed rather a strange phenomenon.
00:18 You can talk to almost any child 00:23 in school, almost anyone... 00:26 even in grade school... 00:28 and they can name these beasts for you. 00:33 They can tell you what they are. 00:35 Doesn't make any difference whether you're talking about 00:37 barosaurus or whether you're talking about supersaurus 00:41 or whether you're talking about T. rex 00:44 or whether you're talking about triceratops. 00:48 They can name them off... all the dinosaurs. 00:51 And we have them in our books. 00:54 I mean, in grade school they have them, they see them. 00:57 They talk about them. We even make toys 01:00 and they play with them. 01:02 And this is all right. 01:05 And yet if I send you a brochure 01:08 that has the picture of the beasts that are mentioned 01:11 in the Bible parents will say to me: 01:13 "Why do you put those awful beasts there on that brochure? " 01:17 And they seem to object 01:20 to understanding it, yet they don't mind their children 01:24 seeing beasts like this. 01:25 And you can ask them and they can name them. 01:28 But if you mention the beasts in the Bible 01:31 they don't know anything about them. 01:35 And yet those beasts in the Bible 01:38 have a whole whole lot more 01:41 meaning to you and to me 01:44 than do the dinosaurs. 01:46 As we have been studying Bible prophecy 01:49 we have looked at them. And you remember we have 01:52 looked at a lion. 01:54 And we found out that this lion 01:56 represented the kingdom of Babylon 01:59 that went from 606 BC to 539 BC. 02:05 And then you remember after the lion 02:07 we took a look at a bear that raised itself up on one side, 02:11 had 3 ribs in its mouth. 02:12 That bear represented Medo-Persia 02:15 going from 539 BC to 331 BC. 02:20 And then you remember after the bear 02:23 we came to rather a strange beast in the Bible. 02:26 That was a leopard, but that leopard had 4 heads 02:30 and four wings. You remember that? 02:32 And that leopard rep- resented the kingdom of Greece. 02:36 The four wings on its back represented the swiftness 02:39 with which Alexander the Great 02:41 took everything that was before him. 02:43 The four heads on the beast represented Alexander's 02:46 four generals that the kingdom was turned over to. 02:50 And Greece went from 331 BC to 168 BC. 02:56 And then we came to a dragon. 03:00 And we found out that that dragon 03:03 represented the kingdom of pagan Rome. 03:07 Rome was the kingdom that ruled longer than any other kingdom 03:11 from 168 BC to 476 AD. 03:16 So we've taken those one after another 03:18 and then as we studied it we found in Revelation 03:22 the 13th chapter we had kind of a non-descript beast 03:26 that was made up of a leopard, 03:29 made up of a bear, a lion. 03:31 It had seven heads, and as we studied that we found 03:34 that that beast represented the kingdom of papal Rome. 03:39 And so we have looked at those beasts one right after another. 03:43 Those five, and I read you a text in God's Word 03:46 that said: "Five of these have fallen. 03:50 One is, one is yet to come. " 03:53 And tonight we're going to take a look 03:56 at the one that is in Revelation the 11th chapter. 04:01 So we're going to see what that beast represents. 04:03 How that all fits together. So with that, 04:06 let's go to Revelation the 11th chapter 04:08 and see what it has to say. Revelation the 11th chapter 04:12 and verse 7: 04:25 So here it speaks about this particular beast. 04:28 I know lots of people that read the 11th chapter 04:31 of Revelation and they never pick up on this beast. 04:35 But it says that this beast 04:37 would overcome them and kill them. 04:40 Now what we've gotta find out 04:41 is who... who is this beast gonna overcome and kill. 04:45 Well, the Bible speaks of two witnesses. 04:48 And it says that this beast would overcome them 04:51 and kill those two witnesses. 04:53 In fact, the Scripture says this about it: 05:09 Did that ring any bells with you? 05:12 Huh? Are you with me? 05:14 OK. It says that they're gonna prophesy 1,260 days. 05:20 Watch what happens... still in the same verse: 05:26 So it says these two witnesses 05:28 they're going to prophesy for 1,260 days 05:34 in sackcloth. 05:36 What would you think that sackcloth represents? 05:41 What do you think sackcloth represents? 05:44 Well, sackcloth represents mourning; 05:47 it represents hard times. 05:50 It represents distress. 05:52 So it says that they're going to prophesy 1,260 days 05:58 mourning... in distress. 06:00 All right. So what we want to do tonight now is we want to 06:03 go back and pick up with the first verse 06:06 and we're going to look at verses 1 through 7 06:08 and we're going to begin to put this prophecy together. 06:11 And it says in Revelation the 11th chapter and verse 1... 06:15 we read: 06:32 Telling them to rise, measure the temple and so forth. 06:49 So he said: "Don't measure; it's been given to the Gentiles. " 06:52 Now watch because it's going to tell you 06:54 how long it has been given to the Gentiles. 07:22 Now when it says: "These are the 2 olive trees, " 07:26 who are the two olive trees? 07:29 The two witnesses. 07:31 OK. Make sure you're under- standing as we're reading 07:33 God's Word. These 2 witnesses are the two olive trees. 08:25 OK? So what we want to find out tonight 08:28 is what is this talking about? Who are these two witnesses 08:31 that the beast kills? 08:33 Who do they represent? 08:34 Folks, if you're going to understand prophecy, 08:38 you've gotta go to Scripture. 08:40 You're not going to understand it if you don't go to Scripture. 08:43 And let me tell you something: 08:45 when God puts something down 08:47 He's not writing something that you can't understand. 08:51 Don't accept that. 08:53 You can understand it; you can know what He's talking about. 08:57 God didn't reveal it in His Word 08:59 so that you and I couldn't understand it. 09:01 May take a little study. 09:04 When I was in school I had a professor 09:06 that said it wasn't harmful nor fatal to think. 09:09 And it's not. So you may have to think a little bit 09:13 but God will bless you if you do. 09:15 So if it's talking about two olive trees 09:18 and two lampstands, 09:20 let's see what the Scripture says about those 2 olive trees 09:24 and those two lampstands. And so we're going to go 09:26 to the book of Zechariah and see what it says here. 09:49 So here it's talking about this lampstand. 10:01 OK... here we are. See, same phrase as used in the book 10:05 of Revelation here in Zechariah. 10:20 He said: "What do these represent? " 10:23 All right... listen carefully: 10:45 He asked him, he said: "No, I don't understand what this is. " 10:47 And he said: This is the Word of the Lord to Zerubbabel. " 10:53 Watch: 11:04 So when he asked him he said: "Who are these 2 olive trees? 11:07 "Who are these two lampstands? " 11:09 He says: "This is the Word of the Lord to Zerubbabel. " 11:13 "Not by might nor by power 11:16 but by My Spirit saith the Lord. " 11:19 So what are they? What do they represent? 11:22 They represent the Word of God! 11:24 That's what they represent. 11:26 Stands for the Word of God. 11:28 Now you remember that in the Bible 11:32 you'll find the Holy Spirit is pictured many times as oil 11:38 and it's also presented as fire. 11:41 OK? You remember when Samuel anointed David 11:45 he used what? Oil. 11:48 And you'll find in many cases in Scripture 11:51 oil is used to represent the Holy Spirit. 11:53 You also remember it says: 12:11 So it says if there's anybody sick 12:14 they're to gather the elders of the church, 12:16 pray for that person, anoint that person with oil. 12:19 It represents the Holy Spirit. 12:21 "And the prayer of faith, " it says, "shall save the sick. " 12:25 You also remember that on the Day of Pentecost 12:28 when the Holy Spirit fell upon the people 12:31 it fell as what? 12:33 Flames of fire on their head. 12:36 So you have those two repre- sentations of the Holy Spirit. 12:40 "Not by might nor by power 12:43 but by My Spirit saith the Lord. " 12:47 That's' how it's to take place. 12:49 So as we're studying God's Word 12:51 it tells us here in II Peter the first chapter and verse 21: 13:05 So when we come to the Word of God 13:09 and the Word of God being re- vealed, it is revealed by what? 13:15 Huh? The Holy Spirit. 13:17 They didn't speak of their own will. 13:19 It was given to them by the Holy Spirit, revealed to them 13:24 by the Holy Spirit. 13:25 So when it talks about those two olive trees and oil 13:29 that represents the Holy Spirit. 13:32 That oil went to what, folks? 13:35 It went to lampstands that were to give light. 13:42 Are you with me? 13:43 So He's picturing what's going to happen here 13:45 and that's the reason it says this in Zechariah. 14:03 That oil is flowing through that to the lamps 14:07 to give light. That is the reason it tells us there 14:10 in Zechariah: 14:18 So when you get to the book of Revelation 14:21 and it talks about these two witnesses 14:23 it says this is the Holy Spirit. And that it is giving light 14:28 through what? This is the what? 14:32 The Word of the Lord. 14:35 It's giving light through the Word of God. 14:43 That's the reason when you read God's Word 14:46 such as in Psalm 119:105 it says: 14:55 So when the Scripture here talks about these two witnesses... 15:00 OK? The two witnesses there: 15:04 you know who those two witnesses are? 15:06 Those two witnesses are the Old and New Testaments. 15:12 The Word of God. 15:14 See, that's what it's talking about there. 15:16 And as we study this prophecy tonight, 15:18 dear friend, you're going to see that with absolute clearness. 15:22 It'll stand out vividly 15:25 that this is talking about the Word of God. 15:27 These are the two witnesses: the Old and New Testaments. 15:32 It says the beast would do what to them? 15:36 Said it'd kill them. 15:38 OK... let's watch as the Scripture begins to reveal 15:43 what's going to happen here. 15:45 Some people want to hold that these two witnesses 15:48 are Moses and Elijah. 15:51 And you'll hear people say that the two witnesses are 15:54 Moses and Elijah. And they seem to think that 15:56 Moses and Elijah are going to come back to the earth 15:59 and that they're going to be killed and they're going to lie 16:01 on the street for 3-1/2 days. 16:04 They won't be buried. And then Moses and Elijah 16:06 are going to be resurrected. 16:08 That's' what many people teach. 16:11 That is not what the Scripture is saying. 16:12 I want you to listen to what the Scripture says 16:14 about it, and I'll tell you why they think it's Moses 16:16 and Elijah. 16:29 OK... you remember Elijah is the one that prayed 16:32 for fire to come down out of heaven. You remember that? 16:35 So that's the reason it's saying here that some people 16:38 believe that it's Elijah. 16:39 Goes on and says: 16:52 And you remember Elijah was the one who prayed that 16:55 it wouldn't rain, and it didn't rain for a period of time. 16:59 3-1/2 years in Israel. 17:01 And you remember Moses is the one that prayed 17:04 and the water turned to blood. So these are the reasons 17:07 people take and say this represents Moses and Elijah. 17:11 "And they have power over the waters to turn them to blood. " 17:15 But let's take a look now 17:17 and see what the Scripture tells us about these 17:20 because it says: 17:25 Now what I want to tell you tonight 17:27 is that Moses and Elijah did not do that 17:33 of their own strength. 17:36 Moses and Elijah did that based on the Word of God. 17:39 I can read you in the book of Leviticus 17:42 where it says very clearly that if... 17:46 if the people did not obey God 17:49 and did not follow Him it would not rain. 17:53 I can read that to you in Leviticus. 17:56 And the people of Israel were not obeying God. 17:59 They were not following Him; they were not doing His will. 18:01 And so all Elijah did is said: "Lord, honor Your Word. " 18:07 And based on the Word of God it didn't rain. 18:11 OK? So that is the power; that is what was used. 18:15 All right. Let's go to Revelation 11:2. 18:34 So here in Revelation the 11th chapter 18:38 it uses the term forty-two months. 18:41 It also uses the term 1,260 days. 18:45 Terms that you and I are familiar with 18:47 because we have read those in Daniel 7. 18:52 We've also read it in Revelation 13, right? 18:55 OK. So when it talks about that it says: 19:09 So they're going to prophesy that length of time 19:12 in sackcloth. 19:13 Now as we have studied God's Word together here 19:16 from night to night we found that in Daniel 19:18 the 7th chapter it talks about time, times, and 1/2 a time. 19:23 It also talks about it in Daniel 12. 19:26 OK. I told you that in Bible prophecy a day represented 19:30 how much? One year. 19:33 When we get to the book of Revelation, Revelation 12:6 19:36 talks about 1,260 days. 19:39 Revelation 12:14 talks about time, times, and 1/2 a time. 19:44 And Revelation 13:5 talks about forty-two months. 19:48 All those, folks - and I have mentioned this 19:51 several times now, I'll continue to mention it - 19:54 God is consistent. 19:58 See, I run onto people that want to change these up. 20:03 If you change them up, you never know what... 20:05 when you get off of one horse and on another. 20:09 God is consistent all the way through. 20:13 That 1,260 years in every case 20:17 will refer to that text where it says: "I have given you 20:21 a day for a year" so it will represent 1,260 years 20:26 that began - if you add them up... 20:30 Time represents 360 days... time does. 20:34 Times represents 720. 20:37 1/2 time represents 180. 20:39 That gives you 1,260. 20:41 42 months, 30 days in a Biblical month, 20:45 you multiply it times 30 and it gives you 1,260. 20:48 All those represent the period of time 20:51 from 538 AD to 1798 AD. 20:55 In every case it represents that same period of time. 21:02 Now, let's see what takes place 'cause it says 21:05 that they would prophesy in sackcloth 21:10 for 1,260 years. 21:16 Revelation the 11th chapter verse 3: 21:30 If you look at this period of time 21:33 from 538 AD to 1798 AD, 21:37 folks, that covers the period of time 21:41 known in history as the Dark Ages. 21:46 It's a time in which 21:48 the Bible was taken away from people. 21:52 It was chained to library walls. 21:55 The people were told that they were too ignorant to read it. 22:01 It was a time of great... go back and read your history... 22:04 time of great, great persecution. 22:09 That's why it says they witnessed 22:11 in sackcloth and ashes because it was a time - 22:15 hard time - a time of persecution. 22:18 A time of suffering; a time of sorrow. 22:23 A time in which people were burned at the stake. 22:28 All you have to do is read about people such as Hus 22:31 and Jerome and Wycliffe. 22:35 Took them and burned them at the stake. 22:37 They didn't burn Wycliffe. 22:39 He died on them before they got to the stake with him. 22:42 But it was a time in which they were persecuted. 22:44 And because the Christians were so terribly persecuted 22:48 they had to flee. 22:50 And they fled up into northern Italy 22:55 and southern France. 22:58 And that's what you and I know as the Alps. 23:02 And they came into those areas and they settled those areas 23:06 and some of those people became known as Waldensian people. 23:11 Others that worshiped and followed the Lord 23:14 became known as Huguenots. 23:17 Others became known as the Albigenses. 23:20 But these were people, folks, that took God's Word 23:23 and they said: "We will build our faith on Scripture. " 23:27 "We will stand on the Word of God; 23:30 this is where we will stand. " 23:32 And because they refused... they refused to stand 23:36 any other place than on the Word of God 23:38 they were hunted and they were persecuted... 23:42 greatly persecuted. 23:45 Hard time... sorrow... 23:49 time of great, great persecution. 23:54 But as time passed 23:57 in Revelation the 12th chapter... 23:59 and we'll look at this in detail on another night... 24:01 but Revelation the 12th chapter speaks of this, folks. 24:05 Listen to what it says here. And by the way, 24:07 let me give you a principle. I'll come back to it 24:09 another night. But any time you're studying Bible prophecy, 24:12 you're studying God's Word here, 24:15 and you come across a woman in prophecy... 24:19 Now don't apply it outside of prophecy... 24:21 But any time you come across a woman in Bible prophecy 24:24 a woman will always represent God's church. 24:29 OK. If she's a good woman. 24:32 Put that down. 24:33 If she's a good woman. 24:35 OK. Always represent God's church. 24:37 And so when you get to Revelation the 12th chapter 24:40 you have a woman there, and this is what it says about her: 25:01 Are you beginning to see the consistency of Scripture? 25:04 The church had to flee into the wilderness 25:07 where she was terribly persecuted. 25:10 God said He'd prepared a special place just for her 25:18 and that she would witness for 1,260 days. 25:26 I've been there. If you've never been there, 25:30 if you want to drive into northern Italy, 25:34 southern France there's a place there called Torre Pelicci. 25:40 And all you've gotta do is walk back into the mountains 25:42 and this is where these Waldensian people lived. 25:48 They persecuted them terrible. 25:49 They sent soldiers up after them. 25:52 An interesting point: these people lived in the mountains. 25:57 If you've never been there, folks, it's most gorgeous. 26:00 I mean, beautiful mountains! 26:01 But they're like this... I mean, they're steep. 26:04 And these people walked up and down those mountains 26:07 and did their farming on the side of the mountain 26:09 and everything. So when the soldiers came to get them 26:13 these men just ran off 26:15 and the soldiers just couldn't run fast enough. 26:17 They just couldn't keep up with them. 26:18 And so there was no way they could catch these men. 26:21 And so these soldiers got this bright idea in their head: 26:24 well if we can't catch the men we'll catch the women. 26:27 Tried to catch the women. They couldn't catch the women either! 26:30 Women ran up the mountains and just ran off and left them. 26:33 And so they couldn't catch either one of them. 26:35 But they did terrible things and they persecuted them horribly. 26:39 They witnessed in sackcloth and ashes. 26:43 Now folks, let me share something with you. 26:46 It's because of these people like the Waldensian people 26:50 that you've got your Bible 26:53 because they're the ones that took care of it. 26:56 They're the ones... There's no printing press. 27:00 The Bible has to be written by hand. 27:03 And they wrote it down - hand transcribed it - 27:07 put it in books there and they cared for it. 27:10 So when the Reformation came 27:14 the Waldensian people are the ones that presented 27:17 the reformers with the Word of God. 27:18 That's one reason you have it. 27:21 They were the people that cared for it 27:24 in a very, very special way. 27:28 It says in Revelation 11 verse 7 27:37 When these people finished their testimony, OK? 27:50 Like I said, this was a terrible, terrible time. 27:54 But all of a sudden across the country 27:57 men began to stand up and preach. 28:00 And all of a sudden you have the Reformation taking place. 28:04 Hus, Jerome... who were Bohemians... 28:07 who forfeited their life, were burned at the stake, 28:10 had stood up and said: "We will stand on the Word of God 28:13 and the Word of God alone. " 28:15 Wycliffe, who had taken and translated the Bible 28:19 into English so people could read it and understand it, 28:23 and they were going to burn him at the stake. And he died 28:26 before they did. And then other men began to come on 28:29 like Luther. And he began to preach 28:32 and he began to stand up and say: "This is the Word of God 28:35 and everybody should be able to read the Word of God 28:37 and to follow it. " And over in Switzerland 28:40 other individuals like John Calvin here in Geneva: 28:45 he began to stand up and preach. 28:47 And through the preaching of John Calvin, folks, 28:51 400,000 people accepted the Reformation. 28:57 They became known as Huguenots. 29:01 There were other men like Zwingli. These were great men 29:05 and they began to preach the Word of God. 29:07 And because they preached the Word of God 29:11 some of the princes of Europe began to stand up and 29:15 they said: "Our conscience will not be dictated to. 29:20 We will follow the Word of God. 29:22 We will believe the Word of God 29:24 as we read the Word of God and understand it. " 29:27 And so they stood up for the Word of God. 29:29 Great men! And the persecution began to come to an end. 29:37 But let me tell you what happened. 29:41 Countries like Germany, Switzerland... 29:46 they accepted the Reformation. 29:50 France... France opened its doors. Threw them wide open 29:56 and accepted the Reformation. 29:59 And the Reformation began to move across France 30:02 with great rapidity. 30:06 This went on for a few years. 30:09 Then one of the kings of France 30:13 got offended. And because he was offended 30:18 he turned against the Reformation 30:21 and they began to persecute the reformers 30:26 and France closed its doors to the Reformation. 30:32 Just absolutely closed the doors to the Reformation 30:35 and said: "No! " Anybody that followed the reformers 30:39 they were considered heretics 30:41 and they were gathered and they were burned at the stake. 30:46 You have what was called 30:49 the Massacre of St. Bartholomew 30:54 where they gathered up 60,000 Huguenots 30:58 one Sunday morning and killed them. 31:02 OK? At this time there's a struggle going on. 31:07 There's a struggle going on politically in Europe 31:10 and there's a man here - little man right here - 31:14 that is trying to gain control of Europe. 31:17 His name is Napoleon. 31:21 Napoleon wants to control Europe 31:26 but he knows... he knows that he cannot control Europe 31:32 unless he can break the back of the papal power. 31:37 And so we find 31:39 that on February 15, 1798 31:43 Napoleon's general - Berthier - 31:46 made his entrance into Rome... 31:54 Now folks, put a line under that word secular. 32:00 Put a line under that word secular because all of a sudden 32:04 it's going to start meaning a whole lot more. 32:07 You see, when France turned against the Reformation 32:12 through the preaching of John Calvin 32:16 thousands and thousands and thousands of people 32:19 accepted it. And the truth about it was 32:22 is those that accepted the message of the Reformation 32:26 were the "intelligenci" of the country. 32:29 They were teachers, professors, businessmen, tradesmen. 32:33 And all of a sudden France turned its wrath against them 32:39 and they had to flee France. 32:42 And when they fled France 32:45 it did horrible things to that country's leadership. 32:52 Things began to change drastically. 32:55 And all of a sudden 32:57 a beast begins to rise up. 33:03 Remember it said this beast would come up and it would kill 33:07 the two witnesses? Huh? 33:11 OK. This is the beast that's coming up 33:13 because what happens is this. It says: 33:27 OK... Napoleon has come to power: 1798. 33:31 He has established a secular... 33:36 he has established a secular government. 33:41 People are turning against religion. 33:46 It says, Revelation 11:8: 34:02 So it says that they would kill them. 34:04 They would lie in that street. 34:07 They're going to lie there 3-1/2 days we're going to find out. 34:12 Great persecution took place. 34:15 The king of France as I told you went through 34:19 and gathered up anybody that followed the reformers 34:22 and they either killed them with a sword 34:27 or they burned them at the stake or they crucified them. 34:31 In fact, they took a man who was a follower of the reformers 34:36 and got him to tell who these people were. 34:39 And as they went down the street he pointed out the houses 34:43 and they put marks on them. And then the soldiers came back 34:46 and gathered these people up. 34:48 It was a terrible time in history. 34:51 Even the papal power, 34:54 the papal power who had been the favored one, 34:58 all of a sudden now found itself 35:02 in great great trouble. 35:05 It found that the people had turned against them also. 35:12 A man by the name of Thomas Paine 35:16 has written a book. It's called The Age of Reason. 35:21 That book has circulated all across France. 35:25 And in the book The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine 35:29 he tells them there to take religion and get rid of it. 35:33 To toss it out; not to follow it. 35:36 That there is no God and they're not to believe in God. 35:40 And that book now has gone all across France 35:44 and France has turned against God and they have established 35:49 what is known in history as The Age of Reason. 35:57 They kicked religion out of France. 36:02 I want you to listen. That took place 36:16 I want you to listen to a couple historical statements. 36:54 The French assembly said: "We will not worship God. 37:00 We will establish The Age of Reason. " 37:04 One more statement: 37:41 That's what the French assembly did. They said: 37:44 "Have nothing to do with God any more. " 37:57 They took this woman, put her on a cart, 38:01 and pulled her through the streets of Paris 38:04 and worshiped her as the Goddess of Reason. 38:10 And this began one of the most horrible times 38:14 in the history of humanity 38:17 referred to by some historians as the Reign of Terror 38:24 because now the people no longer have any kind of standard. 38:30 They've thrown out the Book. 38:33 And when they threw out the Book they threw out morals. 38:36 They threw out everything that they stood for 38:39 and therefore everything went awry. 38:42 You could believe anything you wanted to 38:45 as long as it wasn't religion. 38:48 You couldn't believe that. If you did, you were in trouble. 38:54 Now watch... Revelation 11 verse 8: 39:08 You must read that text very carefully because it says 39:13 "spiritually called Sodom and Egypt where our Lord 39:17 was crucified. " Please... that's saying spiritually; 39:20 it's not saying literal. 39:23 Christ was not crucified in Egypt, was He? 39:26 Wasn't crucified in Sodom. 39:29 So you've gotta understand when you read the Word of God 39:31 and it says spiritually you've gotta make the application. 39:35 Why is it saying spiritually 39:38 where our Lord was crucified 39:41 and it refers to Egypt and Sodom? 39:43 It refers to Egypt for this reason. Because you remember 39:46 God called Moses and He said: "You go down 39:49 and you tell Pharaoh 'Let My people go. ' " 39:54 And Moses went down and told Pharaoh. He said: 39:57 "God has said 'Let My people go. ' " 40:00 And Pharaoh said this: 40:13 You see, Egypt stood for atheism. 40:18 They had thrown out God... France had. 40:21 They said: "We're not going to believe in any Deity. " 40:23 "We're throwing out God. " 40:25 That's the reason God referred to it as Egypt. 40:28 Why did it refer to Sodom? 40:32 Sodom and Gomorrah? 40:34 Those cities were destroyed because of what? 40:38 Loss of morals. 40:42 Dear friend, any time you take the Bible 40:45 and you throw out the Bible, all morality is gone. 40:49 And France lost its morals. 40:52 I mean, there was nothing to restrain the people in any way. 40:58 Fornication, adultery was wide open. 41:00 Unbelievable during that time. 41:02 It was so bad I can't even describe it to you tonight. 41:06 That's the reason it referred to it as Sodom. 41:10 And it says: "Where our Lord was crucified. " 41:16 Why would it say that? 41:18 Because if you believed in God... 41:23 It didn't make any difference what church you went to 41:27 if you believed in God you were gathered up 41:30 and taken and guillotined. 41:33 Your head was cut off. 41:36 God said this: 41:43 I mean, they gathered up everybody 41:46 that just even looked like they might be religious 41:49 and they cut their heads off. 41:50 In fact, it went on so bad, 41:53 folks, that blood ran down the gutters of the streets of Paris. 41:56 OK. 42:12 See, that's why it says: "Where My Lord was crucified. " 42:17 Now, it says Revelation 11 verse 9: 42:35 Says their dead bodies are going to lie in the street 42:39 for 3-1/2 days. 42:40 Now, we found out in our study that in Bible prophecy 42:46 a day represents how much? One year. 42:49 "I have laid on you a day for a year. " 42:52 OK. The Age of Reason 42:58 began January 1, 1793. 43:04 OK? Now I want to read you 43:09 a couple historical statements. I want you to put it in place. 43:13 Back in the time when France made the decision 43:19 that they were not going to go with the Reformation - 43:22 the king turned against the Reformation - 43:25 and they went out and they gathered up the Huguenots 43:29 and they burned them at the stake and they killed them all 43:32 history is recording this statement about it. 43:34 Listen to this very carefully: 43:36 Looks like we have lost a computer. 43:40 Maybe we can go back to it; get some help there 43:44 to find out what the problem is. 43:45 But history says that that king marched down the streets 43:50 and as he went down the streets they pointed out 43:53 the homes and they gathered the people and they killed them 43:59 one right after another. 44:01 Now folks, we're 200 and about 56 years 44:07 later to the very day 44:10 and now they've gone and they've gotten Louis XVI 44:15 and they're leading him down the street 44:18 taking him to have his head cut off. 44:21 The very thing that the king of France did 44:25 256 years before 44:27 now is happening to the king of France. 44:31 This was referred to as The Age of Terror. 44:35 Terrible time that took place. 44:38 OK... let's continue on. It says 44:41 that their dead bodies will lie in the street how long? 44:46 Three and a half days. 44:47 Now friends, if there's any of you here tonight that 44:51 have some question about the Word of God, 44:54 that you maybe don't believe that it's exactly right, 45:01 that Age of Reason began January the 21st, OK? 45:07 1893. 45:11 Excuse me... 1793. 45:16 France did away with religion. 45:19 Three and a half years later... All right? 45:24 June the 10th, 1796, 45:31 things had gotten so bad in France - 45:34 absolutely so horrible in France - 45:37 that the whole country was falling apart 45:40 that the French assembly decided to re-establish religion 45:44 in France... exactly 3-1/2 years. 45:50 Said they would lie dead in the street how long? 45:53 Three and a half days. 45:54 In Bible prophecy a day represents how much? 45:56 One year. And it says they would lie in the street 45:59 dead for 3-1/2 days or 3-1/2 years. 46:03 And it did it to the exact day. 46:07 You'd better believe that when God's giving you prophecy 46:10 it's accurate. Amen! 46:13 Now it says here in Revelation 11 46:17 and I'm going to have to have some glasses. 46:20 I won't read this without them. 46:23 Revelation the 11th chapter... they're laying right back there. 46:28 Folks, I don't know what happened there. 46:31 Our screen's coming back. 46:32 OK... maybe we'll get to it 46:35 and take a look at it, but let me just tell you right now 46:39 if we lose it well you don't worry about it 46:42 because I can preach without it. 46:43 It's not... it's not required. Thank you. 46:46 It's not required for me to have that to preach by. 46:49 But my glasses are required to be able to see it. OK? 46:55 OK... the 11th chapter. So anyhow 46:59 at the end of 3-1/2 years it's reinstated. 47:03 It's put right back where it was. 47:07 Because they realized that without religion 47:09 the whole country is falling apart... 47:12 that they can't make it work. 47:14 And so they re-established religion. 47:16 But it says here in verse 12 47:20 "And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying 47:23 to them: 'Come up here. ' 47:25 And they ascended to heaven in a cloud 47:27 and their enemies saw them. " 47:29 In other words, those two witnesses 47:32 came back to life. 47:34 They were resurrected after 3-1/2 days 47:36 and He said: "Come up here. " And it says they arose 47:39 and were caught up into heaven. 47:42 Now what I'm trying to get across to you tonight, 47:45 folks, is this Word will not fail. 47:49 Absolutely will not fail... under any way. 47:54 OK? So watch what happens here... 47:57 I think we're... well, we were almost there. 48:00 I think we're just about there. 48:02 We'll get there in a minute. 48:03 Maybe we can take it a little farther. 48:06 A little bit more. 48:09 OK... I think that's good. 48:12 We'll take it from there. 48:13 OK... and then it says in Revelation 11 verse 10: 48:28 One of the strangest things happened. You know, 48:31 I don't understand: when somebody does something 48:35 then everybody wants to get on the bandwagon. 48:37 And when France tossed religion out of France 48:41 other countries sent them letters and gifts and said 48:45 how wise they were and how smart they were. 48:48 You know, this is what it's talking about. 48:50 They sent gifts to them, congratulated them 48:52 for what they did. 49:10 A great fear fell on those who saw them. 49:13 Now folks, think about it, think about it: 49:17 17... 1796... 49:23 the Word of God hasn't gone any place 49:26 because there's no way it could be published. 49:29 Very few people had Bibles. 49:31 There wasn't much of a chance for people to read 49:34 the Word of God. This is 1796! 49:38 It says that when this came and they came back to life 49:42 they were caught up - watch - into heaven: 49:55 It says if there's anything that is sure it is the Word of God. 49:59 And I told you tonight you can build your faith on it. 50:02 Watch: 50:03 January 21, 1793, they did away with religion. 50:09 The French assembly on June 10, 1796, 50:13 voted to put it back... exactly 3-1/2 years. 50:19 OK? Three and a half years 50:21 just as the Word of God had prophesied. 50:33 OK? Listen: what happened? 50:37 The British Bible Society 50:40 1804... Are you getting the picture? 50:44 All of a sudden here the Word of God 50:46 is caught up. The British Bible Society 50:49 is formed and now the Word of God is being circulated 50:53 around the world. 51:00 And all of a sudden the Bible begins to be circulated 51:03 across the globe. All of a sud- den foreign missions take off. 51:19 And all of a sudden the Word of God begins to spread 51:22 across this whole world just exactly as the Scripture 51:26 said it would. 51:30 How does this affect you? 51:33 How does it affect me? 51:35 I want you to listen very, very carefully. 51:49 That beast came up out of the bottomless pit 51:53 on February 15, 1798, when Napoleon established 51:58 a secular kingdom. And all of a sudden you find 52:03 atheism for the first time raising its head. 52:08 All of a sudden atheism as France kicks religion 52:12 out of France and established atheism... 52:16 came in. Now watch, because something begins to happen. 52:21 Out of the writing of Thomas Paine, 52:25 The Age of Reason... There's a man that has read that. 52:29 His name is George Hegel. 52:33 Look at the dates of his birth: 52:36 1770 to 1831. 52:39 Folks, George Hegel is the father... he is the father 52:44 of modern atheism in philosophy and theology. 52:48 He's the one that introduced all this stuff 52:52 that you find today across the country 52:54 in which he talks about higher criticism 52:58 and how that all these things in the Bible were not true. 53:01 George Hegel did that. 53:04 George Hegel had a student 53:08 that studied George Hegel... 53:11 studied under George Hegel... 53:13 that also studied Thomas Paine. 53:17 And from their writings he developed his philosophy, 53:21 and his name was Charles Darwin. 53:26 Look at the dates. 53:28 Charles Darwin said the origin of the species, 53:34 evolution, that you and I came from a monkey 53:39 or we came from some protozoa or something else. 53:43 And out of that Christianity and religion 53:47 was completely moved out of it. 53:51 Ah... Charles Darwin? 53:53 Charles Darwin has a friend... 53:56 Charles Darwin has a friend that they study together. 54:01 They study the writings of George Hegel. 54:03 They study the writings of Thomas Paine. 54:06 His name is Karl Marx. 54:11 And Karl Marx decides that they need to set up a society, 54:15 a government, that is built without God. 54:18 And on the basis of the writings of Karl Marx 54:21 you have atheistic Communism coming up. 54:24 And it moved into Russia and held them in its palm 54:28 and in its control for 70 years. 54:34 Oh? You want to take it a step farther? 54:37 A man that studied under Karl Marx, 54:41 studied under Charles Darwin, 54:44 his name: Sigmund Freud. 54:49 And Sigmund Freud said: "Ah, we are in a time of new morality. 54:56 Why you should do it if it feels good. " 55:00 No morals... no restrictions. 55:03 "Just do it. " Because... why? 55:06 "You came from some animal. " 55:09 And so you find that the whole concept completely changed. 55:15 And thus you find that atheistic Communism 55:19 raised its head. Now folks, 55:22 let me tell you what bothers me. 55:25 Russia suffered under Communism 55:30 for 70 years. 55:35 Go over to Russia today 55:37 they invite you into their universities to speak to their 55:40 students to tell them about God 55:43 'cause they know... they know that it didn't work. 55:48 You come back to the United States 55:50 and they won't let you talk about God in the universities. 55:57 I wonder... I wonder where we are, folks. 56:02 I thought this was supposed to be a country that was 56:05 established on religious principles. 56:09 I thought we were supposed to be God-fearing men and women. 56:14 And yet we have schools 56:17 all across this country 56:19 that teach that there is no God. 56:23 That they teach evolution 56:25 and tell the young people that that's what they're to believe. 56:29 I think you and I need to very carefully 56:34 re-assess where we are, where we stand, 56:38 and what we believe. 56:41 Atheistic Communism, ruled, came into power 56:45 and ruled, from 1798 to 1991. 56:51 The sixth beast. 56:53 There's the other puzzle. 56:56 Are you following me? 56:58 You see, it just goes together like that. 57:14 OK... let's look at it. 57:17 This is what we've learned. 57:41 Napoleon came in and established a secular kingdom. 57:46 Just exactly as God's Word says... there's the six. 57:51 But it also says that there's a seventh. 57:56 Seven heads. Five have fallen, one is, 57:59 one is yet to come. 58:09 You see, we're approaching the coming of Jesus Christ. |
