00:15 Welcome to a Taste of Paradise.
00:17 My name is Evita Tezeno and I am from the south 00:21 and we just love banana pudding. 00:25 We eat sleep and drink banana pudding. 00:28 But when I became to eat healthier, 00:31 I look at the ingredients and I said, not so healthy. 00:36 So I came up with a fabulous recipe 00:40 that's not only healthy and nutritious 00:44 but it's also delicious. 00:47 Honey, you could take this to any, any social gathering 00:52 and people will, ooh and ah and say, oh, you are best. 00:56 Because you know, people love banana pudding. 00:59 So let's look at ingredients 01:01 and let's show how healthy it is. 01:49 So you know, in all banana pudding recipes 01:53 they have the little cookies-- The little cookies in there. 01:57 So we're gonna make all kind of cookies with a twist, 02:00 this is a crust-- like almond crusty cookie 02:05 kind of mixture that I am making. 02:08 So we start off with our almonds. 02:15 And we want to blend them little bit, 02:18 so we can chop them up a little bit. 02:27 So we just want to pull some 02:29 so we could break them up little bit. 02:30 Then we have our medjool dates 02:32 and you know, that I said 02:33 that medjool dates are my date of choice 02:36 because they are soft and they sweeter. 02:39 And if you are using any other kind of date 02:42 you might want to soak them 02:44 and kind of rinse them a little bit 02:45 because some of them tend to be 02:47 a little harder then the medjool. 02:52 And we have your sea salt. 02:56 And your vanilla extract 02:57 and make sure that you read 02:58 your labels on the vanilla extract 03:00 and make sure that there is no alcohol in there. 03:05 And then we have our coconut oil. 03:11 Coconut oil is very good for the brain. 03:15 Good brain food. 03:24 And we want to-- 03:49 Now depending on how nutty you want it 03:53 I like mines a little fine 03:55 to resemble like crumbled up cookies, 03:58 so this is the cookie in our banana pudding. 04:06 So let me get all of the stuff out of the way. 04:12 And now we're gonna make our pudding. 04:18 So we're gonna start up with almond milk 04:20 and I make my own almond milk 04:22 by soaking a cup of almonds in three-- 04:27 and then blending them in three cups of water 04:30 and then using a nut milk bag and then making the milk. 04:36 So if you don't have a nut milk bag 04:39 or if you don't want to make your almond milk, 04:41 you can buy almond milk in your grocery store. 04:46 And I have the vanilla extract. 04:51 And turmeric just to color it, 04:53 it's just to make it a little, a little yellow color 04:57 because you know, when you have banana pudding 04:59 the pudding is little yellow, we have our dates. 05:05 And we're using chia seed, 05:06 chia seed is an excellent thickener. 05:09 So that's why we're using the chia seed. 05:11 It's also very hydrating and it's also high in protein. 05:17 Almond butter. 05:21 And there is raw almond butter, 05:24 it tends to be a little expensive, 05:26 so if you want to get the almond butter 05:28 that's not raw, it's okay. 05:32 Whatever is easier for you. 05:35 And then we have our coconut oil 05:37 and this also thickness the pudding as well. 05:49 And I like to add little pinch of salt 05:54 and then our bananas. 06:00 So you know, alone without putting this as a pudding, 06:05 this is a great smoothie recipe as well. 06:52 I want to eat this now because it's so delicious, 06:55 it's just fabulous but I must wait. 07:01 Okay, so you get your pan. 07:10 And you take your crust or your cookies, 07:14 your crumbled cookies and place at the bottom. 07:19 And you can use any kind of pan you want, 07:22 you could you a Pyrex dish 07:25 or if you have something fancy you can. 07:28 And then you cut up your bananas. 07:36 And this one is a little too ripe. 07:40 But you're going to cut your bananas up. 07:58 And the-- the more spotted the banana the sweeter it is, 08:03 you don't want to use green bananas 08:05 because they will not be sweet. 08:08 And you know, banana pudding isn't banana pudding 08:12 if it's not sweet. 08:13 So we want a sweet banana pudding. 08:16 And depending on how many bananas you want in your layer 08:22 you could load it up or you could just put it sparely. 08:31 So then you want to pour the banana pudding. 08:41 And this one is a layered banana pudding, 08:46 because you want to do several layers. 08:49 So then you take some more 08:52 of the almond cookie crust recipe and layer it. 09:00 And you just repeat. 09:05 And because I like to do thing fancy, 09:09 I made it in a special container. 09:17 Look at this. 09:20 Now this would even put my grandmamma to shame. 09:23 Because look at this, isn't this beautiful? 09:26 It is fabulous, I can't wait to dig into this. 09:31 It's fresh, it's fabulous and it is delicious. 09:35 Look at it. 09:38 And it smells amazing. 09:41 Okay, I've done it again, another fantastic recipe 09:45 from the kitchen of Taste of Paradise. 09:48 And you know what I always say at the end, 09:51 remember to live life fresh. 10:01 Welcome back. 10:02 We're here, we're gonna look 10:03 at some of the key items here in preparing a simple meal. 10:08 But even before preparing a simple meal 10:10 we have to look at what is-- 10:12 where is this stuff coming from? 10:13 There is a big controversy of GMOs and what's organic, 10:17 what's not organic and all of these things. 10:19 Every time I do programs everybody is asking, what-- 10:22 Is this good or is that not good 10:25 or the food and the fruits and stuff that we buy is 10:28 you know, is it good? 10:29 they are adding chemicals to it they are messing with it 10:32 and they're doing all of these things. 10:33 Now I say it's real simple to answer all of these questions 10:36 because I can't keep up with-- 10:38 I mean, these days they're mixing 10:40 tomatoes with different species 10:43 and they are adding this and cutting that 10:46 and doing all of these things 10:47 with the genetics of these fruits, these vegetables 10:51 and who knows now soon or later 10:53 with may be animals or something of that nature. 10:55 So I can't keep up because it's always changing. 10:58 But there is one thing I know is I will keep simple 11:00 and I will stick to what was written, 11:03 what the Bible says is good for us. 11:05 And it says that there are fruits that are good for us. 11:08 If something bears a seed it is considered fruit 11:11 and then you have the herbs or the veggies 11:14 which is good for you as well. 11:15 So all of these are there, so I just stick to that. 11:18 So now when I see something that used to have a seed 11:22 not have a seed anymore, what am I going to do? 11:25 I am gonna probably stay away from that. 11:26 I will give you one quick example, 11:28 one of them in particular is probably like grapes. 11:31 You remember back in the days grapes always had what? 11:34 They always had general seeds, 11:36 I mean, even though seedless grapes 11:37 have been around for a long time. 11:38 So now when I see a seedless item I stay away from it. 11:42 Let's look at another one some of our favorites, watermelon. 11:45 Everybody loves watermelon but I guess 11:47 out of convenience or whatever the reason is, 11:50 now they have seedless watermelon 11:52 and they see over three quarter of watermelon now. 11:55 In our country it doesn't even have a seed anymore? 12:00 So I am like wait a second, watch out for that. 12:02 And especially with the grape seeds, 12:04 I only buy grapes in general that have what? 12:07 A seed and you know why I do that? 12:09 Because next you know in a couple of months 12:11 new study shows grape seed extract is good for you. 12:14 Well, I don't have to buy 12:16 that grape seed extract anymore, why? 12:17 'Cause the seed or the grape that I bought 12:19 always had a what in it? 12:20 A seed but if you notice more and more 12:23 these things are slowly but surely 12:25 becoming very hard to find. 12:27 So keep it very simply, your veggies, 12:29 if they look too big stay away from it, 12:31 too small and cute and bites eyes 12:34 probably stay away from that as well. 12:35 Just get your regular veggies the way it was 12:38 I can say probably intended. 12:41 So now you don't have to worry about 12:43 who's doing what to this or who's doing what to that. 12:45 Why, because you are doing it yourself. 12:48 And what I mean by doing it yourself? 12:50 Today, I know we talk about simple meal 12:52 but today we're go from the garden to the plate. 12:56 Why do you not have to question these things? 12:57 Because we're going to grow them ourselves, 13:00 gardening one on one right here 13:02 and a lot of times people say, well, I live in the city 13:05 or I do this and I don't have a farm. 13:07 There is no excuse. 13:08 Why? Because you can do yourself at home. 13:11 So take a note of the simple things 13:13 that's going to help us go from garden to the plate 13:16 of how you too can start to grow your own food, 13:19 it's going to bless you not only physically 13:21 but financially as well. 13:23 And you'll learn some spiritual lessons at the same time. 13:26 Here is your simple recipe 13:28 on how to start gardening from home. 13:31 All you need literally is some seeds, 13:33 any kind of seeds that you want 13:35 you want tomatoes or cucumbers whatever it is. 13:37 You just buy yourself some seeds, 13:39 all you need as well is a simple pot 13:42 or may be a starter pot, a bowl 13:44 whatever you have work with it. 13:46 Then you're going to need some good potting soil, 13:49 some good gardening soil 13:50 you can find that at many locations 13:52 and last but not least I think this one you can probably 13:56 get this for free as you're going to need some water. 13:59 So I hope you went ahead and wrote that down. 14:01 I am going to grab some of these items. 14:03 I have some potting soil right here, 14:06 I am going to start with a little cup, 14:09 this is a special cup 14:10 and if you don't have it, work with what you have. 14:12 You can probably even get a little bowl 14:15 or something of that nature and then seeds, 14:18 these are a dime a dozen. 14:19 And I know what some people are thinking, 14:21 ah, those are genetically modified as well. 14:23 Well, I have simple question, 14:25 did God not know we will be in the situation? 14:28 He knew that and so as what he encourages us to do is 14:32 number one, get out of those cities. 14:34 So you can be in a country, grow your own food. 14:37 The other day my mom called me, 14:39 she said, son, I need some money. 14:41 See, mom is retired and all that stuff, 14:43 and I said, why you calling me, call my brother. 14:46 She said, well, they're married, 14:47 I said, exactly why you need to call my brother, 14:49 and I said, because they have two incomes, 14:51 it's just me, hello. 14:53 But I'm like, mom, I'm just kidding with you. 14:55 I'll-- What do you need the money for? 14:57 This is why I don't like asking people for money, 14:58 when you ask people for money, they tell you how to spend it. 15:00 She said, somebody came by 15:03 and told me that I only need to use organic food. 15:06 I said, mom, did you see 15:07 the price of organic food in New York? 15:10 One broccoli like a big broccoli crown is like $5.99. 15:16 I said if we have to die eating regular broccoli so be it. 15:20 We're going to rest in piece. 15:21 But here's what you need to do, 15:22 Buy the food, if you have to buy it, 15:24 the way was intended, prepare in a simple manner. 15:27 I said, mom, what do you need to do before you eat that food? 15:30 She said, bless it. 15:31 Bless it and trust that God will bless it, 15:34 as matter of fact say a special prayer, 15:35 Lord in the name of Jesus, if the farmer puts 15:38 some pesticides in this please send the angels to do what? 15:41 Remove it and if he didn't cook-- 15:43 oh, he didn't cook it-- 15:44 He didn't grow it long enough, now what do you need to do? 15:47 Lord, send another group of angels to replenish it. 15:49 But sometimes our prayers are so quick 15:51 we just sooner, Lord, amen, 15:53 and we start eating and the angel, 15:55 they don't have enough time replenish the food. 15:56 Of course, we know that doesn't happen 15:58 but you getting what I'm saying? 15:59 But you have to believe that God will do whatever everybody? 16:02 He will bless the food. 16:04 But at the same time we're blessing the food 16:06 soon as we are finished, what do we do? 16:08 We take a whole bunch of supplements. 16:10 You know, what that's telling God 16:11 if I can probably guess them, 16:13 you telling God, he didn't do 16:14 a good enough job of blessing the food. 16:17 So now as a result you're going to 16:18 bless it yourself with supplements. 16:21 You just have to believe and trust. 16:23 So I said, mom, we are not going to buying this. 16:25 And number, two the poor man can't afford the organic, 16:29 but the poor man can grow his own food, yeah? 16:33 As a matter of fact it's cheaper. 16:34 Anybody who follow these basic principals 16:36 you will save almost $4,500 a year, 16:39 just by making and growing your own what everybody? 16:43 Your own food, so here is what we're going to do. 16:46 I am going to share with you how to do it, it's real simple. 16:48 It's like the easiest thing and if you are concerned 16:51 I don't know, I am not farmer, 16:52 I never taught, was taught these things, no problem. 16:56 All you need is some dirt, a little this is a-- 16:59 What you call is a recyclable not recyclable but a degrade-- 17:02 A biodegradable item. 17:04 So once you put the dirt in here. 17:08 you can actually just water it and stick it in the ground 17:12 and it will do everything for you 17:14 because normally you have to transplant it, 17:16 so I'll put that here and I move this over to the side. 17:19 And as you can see you could just pat it down. 17:21 Just a little bit not to tight, make a little hole. 17:24 Hello, we're back in like science class or something. 17:27 We're going to make a little hole. 17:28 And what do I have here? I have some tomatoes. 17:31 So you're going to take a little tomato seed. 17:34 All right, I got a whole bunch of them, 17:35 may be you can see that these things are so small. 17:39 Look at how small they are but you've seen, 17:41 as a matter of fact you probably 17:42 don't even have to buy these seeds 17:45 when you're making your tomato, 17:46 you see them all right there? 17:48 Or when you're eating your tomato, 17:49 just pull those seeds out and you can probably 17:52 even grow your own tomato someday. 17:54 So I am going to take one, two of those 17:56 and put that right in there, okay? 17:59 Then I'm going to save the rest 18:00 'cause I may plant that another time. 18:03 You cover it a little bit and then let's get some water. 18:07 This is like the literally the easiest thing around town. 18:10 You just put just a tide of water 18:12 to go ahead and get the little hydration going there. 18:15 And then even when you're doing this 18:18 you got to still say, 18:19 Lord, I don't know what I am doing 18:21 but please bless this thing, grow it for me 18:24 and then you make a little, little item here, 18:26 and you mark it tomato. 18:29 Done deal, all right? 18:31 So bear with the handwriting there 18:33 but right there you have a simple way 18:35 that you can start making your own what? 18:38 You can start making or growing your own tomato. 18:40 What else do I have here? I have some parsley, mints. 18:45 Yes, everybody likes mint, so I am going to do mint 18:48 and I am going to get another seed here 18:50 and then I'm going to grab 18:51 another one of my little examples 18:55 and I am going to take this one, 18:56 I'm not even going to ask you all to look at it, 18:57 these mint seeds are so small, 18:59 I can only imagine a mustard seed. 19:01 And if you just have faith 19:02 like a mustard seed, you can do this. 19:04 So I am going to take this put it in the middle, 19:06 and drop them, this is call faith. 19:09 Can you imagine, putting something in there, 19:11 you're not sure how it's going to work. 19:12 And then what am I going to do again? 19:14 Just going to add a little bit of water, 19:15 so then I have my mint there. 19:17 You can do basil and I encourage you 19:19 to start with something simple like a tomato, 19:21 basil, what else, we have mint here. 19:27 There are so many things that you can do 19:28 and then I am going to label this one 19:29 and I am going to call that mint. 19:31 Then you take these and you put them, 19:35 let me go back here. 19:39 And you put them in these nice little trays that these stores, 19:42 and many stores have what is known as 19:43 like little starter kits or something. 19:45 Planting starter kits and you just take that, 19:48 you put that in the sunlight by your window 19:50 if you have garden you can actually place the whole, 19:54 the whole item in your garden, you dig a hole. 19:56 And then what do I have here? 19:57 I have some basil, I have some mint that has already grown 20:01 and if you have those going in a garden 20:03 in this special type of cup it naturally does it for you. 20:05 If you have a regular cup, like one of these or whatever 20:10 as it starts to grow 20:11 you're going to have to transplant it, okay? 20:13 And put it in something bigger. 20:15 So look at this tomato plant as it took a little time 20:19 and now of course that didn't happen today. 20:23 That took several weeks there. 20:24 But it's going to teach you patience 20:26 and long suffering and all that good stuff 20:29 as a matter of fact, when we was getting ready 20:30 for this program here, we didn't even have it. 20:34 It didn't grow fast enough of course, 20:36 so we went ahead and we-- 20:38 we got ourselves some tomatoes here. 20:39 These are tomatoes are from the vine. 20:42 So you can do that. 20:43 I think anybody can do this and a matter of fact 20:46 I encourage you to get the kids involved, please. 20:49 Ask children, where does food come from? 20:51 Oh, it comes from the box. 20:53 No, food doesn't come from the box. 20:55 Food comes from the farm, food comes from your garden 20:59 and I think everybody can do this. 21:01 So any questions, I would say? 21:03 Good, no questions, because you can do it yourself. 21:07 So here's your tomato, 21:08 here's your mint and here is your basil. 21:10 A matter of fact, while we are at it, 21:12 why don't we just make simple recipe from our little tomatoes 21:16 and maybe we'll use some basil? 21:18 What about a special spaghetti sauce 21:19 or something of that nature, 21:20 you think you guys will like to do that? 21:22 And even before I get to that special sauce 21:26 I am going to show you all one of the easiest ones to do. 21:28 Matter of fact, I am going to go to the fridge 21:31 because some people say, 21:32 oh, it takes too long, I don't know what to do. 21:34 Anybody, green onions, green onions? 21:38 Here it is. 21:40 All you have to do is get yourself some green onions 21:43 and you literally cut them and I am going to move this 21:48 and then we're going to make a special sauce 21:49 that's the easiest part. 21:51 Cooking is actually, it's like so easy. 21:53 We're going to take our potting soil again, all right. 21:59 And I am just going to do this in this little bowl. 22:00 if you don't have one of those 22:02 special little cups or those little kits. 22:04 Even if you don't have potting soil 22:06 you just grab some dirt and just pray over it. 22:09 You can go ahead and put just enough there, okay. 22:15 Where is my knife? 22:18 Here is the coolest thing 22:19 and I may even use this in our recipe, 22:21 you go ahead and you just chop off your green onions 22:28 and you see this right here. 22:29 What do you do with this?
