00:14 Welcome to a Taste of Paradise. My name is Evita Tezeno
00:19 And you know one of my favorite fruits is Mango. I love the rich
00:24 juiciness of a mango. And I was sitting down thinking one day
00:28 what can I pair it with to make it even more fabulous?
00:32 And I thought about pears. Now pears are not as sweet as mangos
00:36 so the real sweetness and the nice subtle taste of a pear
00:41 would be amazing. So today we're going to do a pear mango cobbler
00:47 And I'm telling you it is fabulous, it's delicious
00:50 And so let's read the recipe.
01:37 So we're gonna start by using our food processor
01:42 using the hazelnuts and this is going to be our flour.
01:45 Hazelnuts have a real nutty flavor and even though they're
01:50 not roasted they have a nice roasted flavor
01:53 and it's also a very good source of calcium.
02:25 So now we're going to do the cream.
02:32 And we have our almond milk
02:38 our mango
02:46 our dates and be sure to pit the dates we don't want any
02:51 pits in our dates. Vanilla extract.
02:57 And salt.
03:00 My dates of choice is Mejdool. I love Mejdool dates.
03:24 And then we're going to add our cashews.
03:59 Now if you want to make this nut free you can add 2 bananas
04:03 instead of using cashews. It will also make it very creamy.
04:18 I'll get this out of the way.
04:26 So we're gonna take our hazelnut flour and start to drizzle it
04:31 at the bottom of our pan.
04:36 And this one's a little chunky if you want a little finer
04:40 you have to just let your processor go a little longer.
04:44 And then we line our pears.
04:50 And there are so many different varieties of pears, I used
04:54 Bosc pears today. That's one of my favorite pears.
05:09 And then we put some of the cream
05:19 Real simple recipe
05:29 Then our mangos
05:52 And then some more cream
06:01 Just going to finish off the cream here.
06:03 Spread it all over
06:08 And you can either eat it right away or you can put it in the
06:13 refrigerator to chill it.
06:25 We'll take some more pears
06:37 So this is like, this is a layered cobbler.
06:41 Layered fruit cobbler.
06:44 And you could use thinly sliced apples if you want
06:51 It will be crunchy, nice
06:56 Sprinkle it with the hazelnut flour
07:07 And then we're gonna garnish it with some strawberries.
07:26 Now wasn't that quick and simple?
07:32 Very, very nice. You can either eat this for breakfast
07:35 or it can also be a dessert but, I'm gonna eat it for breakfast
07:43 Another fabulous recipe from the Taste of Paradise
07:47 And this is Evita Tezeno and remember to live life fresh!
07:58 Welcome back. We just saw a delicious meal prepared by Evita
08:04 That was good for the inside of the body not just tasty as well.
08:08 So today we're gonna focus because a lot of individuals
08:12 have enjoyed our presentations on the skin and facials and all
08:15 of that stuff. The funniest thing is you would think that
08:18 people would be so excited about food for the body and all
08:21 that and they are but when we talk about skin people go crazy
08:26 and they're excited, especially the ladies but guys we take care
08:29 of our skins too of course. So today it's called SOS
08:33 Yes, save me, help me save or excellent food for the skin
08:39 Save Our Skin is our topic today.
08:42 And what better way to talk about our skin than our own
08:45 skin expert, well she may not consider herself a skin expert
08:49 but the example itself will tell all of the story. So we want
08:54 to welcome our general manager. Amen, thank you so much for
08:58 comin over and hangin out with us here. Thank you Nyse, I'm so
09:01 happy to be here. Thank you for inviting me. She's usually
09:05 on call and ready to do it and I said, Come on out I don't know
09:08 if you've seen any of our other programs. You know we had a
09:11 chance to take her out and stuff well now she needs to help us
09:15 a little bit because we have our own, if I could say, Adventist
09:19 Vanessa Williams, Amen. Watch it now, dangerous.
09:23 But look, just look. It's ok to be an example, to show others
09:31 I'm sure you're not taking care of skin so you could be better
09:34 than the other ladies but just to be a good example and by
09:37 God's you've done that. So I said she gotta come on the show
09:40 Today, how are we gonna save our skin. We're gonna make
09:42 some soap. But the skin, how do you keep yours so beautiful
09:45 and vibrant? Well Praise the Lord. Actually the skin
09:51 you take care of the inside and the outside.
09:54 Crucial. It's what you eat and you're giving us some
09:56 great recipes on how to nourish the skin internally
10:00 and externally you have to do some things like moisturize
10:05 use the right cleanser and that kind of thing. You don't wanna
10:09 just put drying agents on the skin. Yes and that's vital
10:14 I mean, you're only turning 41 or 42 something like that, so
10:18 She could get away with it so, this is a great guy right here
10:21 Oh, amen amen. But you notice the key words, the moisturizer
10:25 is what works for you and a lot of times the reason why we need
10:29 so many moisturizers is because we're putting so many harmful
10:33 or very strong aggressive chemicals on the skin. Exactly
10:37 and we don't realize it. We go to the store and we buy things
10:40 and we think that, Ok this is ok to use. I mean it's here
10:43 on the shelf so it must be ok to use. But then you can tell
10:48 when you're using the wrong thing because your skin starts
10:50 to dry out immediately. I notice when I'm washing dishes
10:54 and stuff like that that my skin like cracks up literally. The
10:58 other day I was like, man I need gloves to wash dishes
11:01 and my friend was like, Are you a man or what?
11:03 I'm like, I just need to take care, I need to take care
11:06 of my skin because it cracks up and it's not a good feeling
11:09 That's because there's chemicals in there. It's the chemicals.
11:12 It's not natural stuff, it's chemicals. And so the reason
11:15 why a lot of individuals are drying out so often is because
11:18 they're putting chemicals on their skin. Matter of fact it's
11:21 in our soaps. You think you're actually cleansing when you're
11:25 actually only harming the skin. The other day I picked up a soap
11:30 item and I read the ingredients and when I started to see all
11:34 of the ingredients, phosphate blah, blah what language is this
11:40 What's the rule of thumb? If you can't pronounce it
11:44 don't buy it. When in doubt leave it out and so as I was
11:47 so I just put it down and you won't believe what happened
11:50 What? I literally took a shower for the next week just with
11:53 water and a cloth. It actually helped me to make sure I got
11:57 every part, you know what I mean because I was like I don't have
12:00 any soap or whatever but the problem is not always that we
12:02 need a soap item it's just that we don't want to harm the skin
12:06 So today, SOS. Save Our Skins Save Our Skins.
12:10 We're going to share a simple recipe that you can do to make
12:13 your own soap. Soap from scratch and this one you can't taste it
12:19 But allow your skin to taste it alright? So Save Our Skin, here
12:22 is the simple thing that you will need for our recipe here
12:26 today. Save Our Skin.
13:04 And so we can use any of these to make our own. What's your
13:09 favorite essence or herb or smell? You know what? I love
13:14 peppermint, I love orange, lemon, sandalwood.
13:20 Wow you picked the ones that we're actually gonna do here
13:23 So it's real simple how you get it. Now you did say 3 bars?
13:27 Right. You can buy them at the Arts and Crafts shop.
13:29 You see here, this is a whole, one I actually did half n half
13:34 Yeah, so this one is the Shea butter and this is just a clear
13:37 glycerin one as well. So you can see that there
13:41 We basically take this out now. This is the method that we're
13:44 using here is called the melt and pour. Ok. Melt and Pour
13:48 Because the other ones take quite a bit of time and we don't
13:50 have enough time to do that on the show and everybody
13:52 wants to rush, rush, rush. So what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna
13:54 take these out. I already cut them half and half and I'm gonna
13:58 do the first one here, yeah. And this is yours because
14:02 you're gonna make soap today also. Ok. So you just come out
14:05 here and look pretty and stuff you know, Lotta work.
14:08 She's been workin hard enough but a little extra.
14:10 Then you take one of these items or you just take a knife
14:13 I bought this at the Arts and Crafts, it's about $3-4.
14:16 What do you call it, do you know? I just call it a cutter.
14:18 There's no special name for it. I'm not a soap making expert.
14:22 Yeah it's a little cutter and it's cool but like I said
14:24 you can take a knife because it's not hard and here it is
14:28 Just press down and it goes all the way through
14:30 We'll do that again. We'll just press down all the way through
14:35 And why we're cutting it is because we have to melt it
14:38 right? And if it's just like that in the bar then it's not
14:42 gonna melt properly. So we're trying to make it a little
14:44 bit smaller and we'll add those up, so are you ready?
14:48 You're ready to try yours? Oh yes I'm ready.
14:50 You go ahead and you do the same thing.
14:52 I'm not the queen of this ok. I'm not great. You're not the
14:55 Soap Queen? No, I'm not the Soap Queen.
14:57 The soap make yourself, you got it. Here it is. Ok, ok.
15:00 I'm gonna put that in here. I'm feeling very accomplished now.
15:04 Wow look at that. You're keepin us movin here on air so you've
15:09 done quite a bit. Now you're gonna cut it again into small
15:11 squares. Ok. And so this is some thing you can do. When I found
15:16 out about this, I'm like this is cool I have to do, it I have to.
15:19 This is so neat, even I can do this. Anybody no? Absolutely.
15:24 Well you're here today and you are doing something good. Now
15:27 we have to melt it of course, right? Now you can do a double
15:31 boiler, basically you take two pots, one with hot water and
15:35 another one there that takes a little bit of time. So if you're
15:38 know what it is, I have a microwave here, and I know you
15:41 hate the microwave. I don't use the microwave, yeah and so
15:44 it comes with the house some times and I'm like, why?
15:46 Can I get my money back or something because I do not use
15:48 microwave but in this case for time purposes we're just gonna
15:51 use it for that. So you basically set it for 30 seconds
15:55 or one minute. You don't want to set it too long.
15:58 You're trying to get it to melt right? Because sometimes
16:01 you set it too long it will burn Ahh.. right, so here we go
16:04 So I'm just going to start this this is for about one minute
16:07 So it's just the glycerin in there, right? Yeah. Basically
16:11 And you melt it so it's more malleable. Yes. Something you
16:16 can work with. So we can use it correct. So we just wanna melt
16:19 it and it's gonna become like a liquid there. And then once it
16:22 becomes like a liquid we can add our ingredients and then
16:25 it congeals back once it gets cool again at regular temps
16:29 So when you put it in the double boiler, is it like
16:33 steaming it or, well the heat from the double boiler
16:38 the heat from it will start to melt it. And so you just have
16:42 to be really quick with it. And it takes a little bit of time
16:46 you know it takes a little bit longer and we didn't have the
16:48 chance to do that here but that would be the 'Ideal".
16:51 I don't know about this thing, I'm holding my breath right now
16:54 I'm gonna find out, I'm just kidding with you all.
16:56 But I don't use the microwave in general so it's better to just
17:00 go ahead and warm up your food on a stove or somethin
17:04 of that nature. And our viewers need to know that if you use
17:07 the microwave do not stand in front of it. Yes. Do not stand
17:11 in front of the microwave. But it's better to not use it at all
17:14 Here it is, it's starting to melt a little bit so I'm just
17:16 checkin and we're going to do it again for another minute
17:19 it just takes a little bit of time. We're gonna melt it again
17:23 Now the key is why we're doin this, the largest organ of the
17:28 body is the skin. And we're feedin the heart
17:33 and we're feedin this and feedin that,
17:34 we need to take better care of the skin. Absolutely. So this
17:39 That's because the skin both absorbs and it also secretes
17:44 Yes, so you want the pores to be open so that there is this
17:49 transfer. The toxins come out and the nutrients can go in.
17:54 Ah man, you heard it from the beauty skin queen herself, yeah?
17:59 So it does both jobs and so we have to make sure that we
18:04 are taking care of it as much as possible. So this is melting
18:09 here and let's see we have a couple more, and what's gonna
18:12 happen? We gotta move quick now. Soon as it comes out we're
18:16 going to add some, so let's do mint, and maybe lemon
18:20 so we have our essence there. Alright, let's see.
18:25 Alright here it is. It's starting to melt already.
18:28 So here it is, if you all can take a quick look. I'm just
18:31 going to mix it. As you can see some of it is still, you don't
18:33 have to melt all of it cause you're just tryin to get in
18:36 the flavors. So let's add a couple of items. Let's go
18:39 with the peppermint extract there. So we're going to pour
18:43 that in, and how much? Ah about a tablespoon or so.
18:48 Just go ahead, you know add a little extra. Ok. You know why
18:51 our soaps smell the way they do because so much perfumes
18:56 and stuff was added to it right? So I'm going to mix it up
19:01 And then let me get this going so this can start melting in
19:03 the process. Oh good. Yeah. You have this one here so
19:07 let's do that and then we're going to add some actual
19:10 peppermint leaves to that. So let's bring that over
19:14 and then you just take off a couple of those leaves there
19:19 and you should be good. And I'm going to put this in the
19:21 microwave in the meantime. Ok so do I just add the leaves
19:25 tear them or, oh just add them. You can tear them if you want
19:30 Ok. That maybe good as well.
19:37 You add it there, now you gotta get it rolling
19:40 Smell it a little bit, Yeah.
19:42 We have peppermint. You want more?
19:45 Yes, let's load it up, load it up. This is why we want
19:48 to grow our own herbs and stuff so we can add it. You
19:51 smell it already, right? If you even crush it up that
19:54 may come out but this is gonna look cool, it's going to be good
19:57 for you and it's actually gonna help the skin. I can put some
20:00 ice in there and drink it. Ha ha
20:05 I know it'll taste of paradise animal paradise, right?
20:09 Alright, so. You want more? Load it up.
20:12 You're gonna be taking a shower with this stuff. Ok.
20:15 You want the shower to smell good, the skin to smell good
20:19 as well. For sure. You can add different essences, whatever
20:22 is your favorite, you can add those to it.
20:26 Look at that. That should be good. Oh man, you done poor
20:30 poor peppermint plant. Look at that, it's looking kinda
20:35 messed up there but that's fine it'll grow back, yeah?
20:39 So we'll get a couple more in there.
20:42 You know what'll be cool? If you throw in the stem, ah good
20:45 You want the stem? No, if you had it, if you had it. This is
20:49 starting to get tight now. Or starting to congeal, so what
20:54 we're going to do is we have to add it to our moulds now.
20:57 And then that's almost done. So, yeah you see it? So let's
21:02 do two here and two there and let's. You get these from the
21:04 craft store as well? Yes you get those from the craft store
21:07 Oh this is so neat. Oh look at yours. Oh. It's hot though
21:11 So here you're gonna start mixing that. And here's what
21:15 I'm gonna do cause mine is getting tight you see that there
21:18 So I'm going to pour mine. Into moulds? Into the mould. So I'm
21:22 gonna do a square mould and I'm going to do one square mould
21:29 and let's do a big mould here
21:35 Uh Oh. See this one I took a little long, and then
21:40 and one more, let's do a little one.
21:43 Ok, so the quicker once we get that out of the microwave
21:48 we gotta keep it moving. Yes you can't play around because
21:50 look it's already done and you probably have to melt it again
21:53 and do all of that stuff. Mine's little ugly but hey it's gonna
21:59 melt away, so. You have that there look it's already starting
22:02 to dry. Uh huh. So what do you have? You have that one. Let's
22:06 put some different flavors on that. Ok
22:08 So what are we gonna do? We can put some tea tree maybe or
22:12 lemon and orange. What flavor do you want?
22:15 Little citrusy. Little citrusy. So this is gonna be our citrus
22:17 one. So you can add that and I'm going to like literally
22:22 grate, I'm going to grate an orange. Ooh.
22:27 Oh she loaded that one up. So here it is. I'm just going to
22:31 grate this in. Just the zest yeah? And actually the coolest
22:37 thing is, is the mixture starting to get tight?
22:39 Uh Oh. We gotta hurry up.
22:44 The coolest thing is when you do this the color starts to change
22:48 adds color a little bit as well and you're gonna be taking a
22:52 shower with all natural, this is literally all natural. D'you add
22:56 a little tea tree to it too? Do you want to add tea tree, that's
22:59 fine. A little antiseptic kinda thing. Look at that!
23:02 We've got doctors in the house. Tea tree. Ok so you have that
23:06 Is it getting thick, do we need to start pouring?
23:08 I think that's good enough.
23:12 Poor orange, we took all the zest from it.
23:16 And then it should be, how are we doing? Yeah.
23:18 We're doing ok, it's getting thick.
23:21 It's getting thick, uh oh. We may need to put it back in the
23:25 microwave or something. But here let's see if we can squeeze it
23:29 in. I'll put that in. Oh we got some peppermint in there
23:32 Let me see. Oh we were supposed to pour but we'll work with it.
23:36 Have mercy Lord. Good thing we made one in advance.
23:39 Yeah. Ha ha ha. So here it is. That's one there.
23:43 Let's do another square one. It smells so good.
23:46 This one doesn't look as good but it's gonna smell good. Oh.
23:50 Have mercy. So here it is. That one is really thick.
23:53 I mean that's really nice. It looks like whipped cream
24:01 And we'll pour it in a bit. It got really thick on us.
24:05 So normally you wanna do it while it's real liquidy
24:09 and stuff. And if it gets thick you heat it again? You just
24:13 put it right back in and heat it again one more time and it'll
24:17 melt for you yeah? so this one it's, they usually say it's
24:21 fabulous, you know what I'm talkin about alright
24:23 this is the fabulous version. But the more you do it at home
24:26 and spend some time it will come out really good.
24:29 So lemme show it. You take this and it sets so quick
24:32 We'll take this and put it out of the way
24:34 I've already done some here for you.
24:37 Look at that. It's gonna melt when you start taking a bath
24:40 anyway and then we have a nice little finished product.
24:45 Let's talk a little bit about this here.
24:47 So here you go. This is how it's supposed to come out.
24:50 That is so neat. So this is the one you made. You made this one
24:54 And this is the, I want to smell em. Smell em
24:57 So you have, mine is really peppermint. Uh huh.
25:00 smelling and look you even have the little herbs and stuff
25:04 you can check that out. How neat!
25:07 Ah this smells so good. Is it alright? Peppermint is so good.
25:10 If you have a headache you can put some essential oils of
25:14 peppermint oil on your temples and now you can bathe with it
25:17 as well. You can bathe with it so that's why we can use the
25:20 lavender so it's soothing, that works well. You can also put
25:27 some coconut. We want to make some really from scratch.
25:30 Here we thought like a part of it but you wanna use some
25:34 coconut, some Shea butter. There's different ways you can
25:38 make some of these recipes or something like that.
25:43 And it builds in the moisturizer Now does this lather well cause
25:47 I like bubbles and stuff.
25:50 We know who's takin a bath all the time.
25:53 You know they don't build houses with tubs any more.
25:57 Everything is like stand up shower because society is like
25:59 causing you to run, run, run.
26:00 We need to take some time and go and shower and yes, it
26:05 actually does lather very well. So you'll enjoy this.
26:09 And the reason why we want to start doing our own soap
26:11 is because regular soaps they have parabens and a whole bunch
26:16 of additional items. They're basically chemicals.
26:19 That's right. So I mean just read the ingredients
26:22 and it's just chemicals. Just stuff that's supposed to be
26:26 taking care of the skin and you're pouring chemicals on
26:28 your skin. You're rubbing chemicals on your skin.
26:30 You're like man, I'm so dry. And remember the skin absorbs
26:34 Yes, so it takes in those chemicals.
26:37 You don't want your body to kind of process those chemicals
26:41 This is true. So you have your body taking in some of these
26:44 chemicals and because they are chemicals what are they doing?
26:47 They're leaching your body of natural oils and moisture
26:51 that God has already put in there. I wanna try something.
26:55 I think if we hydrate very well and stay away because a lot of
26:59 people have irritations and allergies and all of these items
27:03 it plays a part because a simple soap and stuff that we're using
27:10 I worked with one gentleman, his child was really breakin out
27:13 really bad and he was like he's eating good. You see milk causes
27:17 the reaction and come to find out he wasn't using any of them
27:21 And what was the problem? They were using aggressive soap.
27:24 They were giving the baby, not the baby but they were washing
27:27 the baby with this soap that they thought was good but when
27:30 they started to read the ingredients it was like, wow
27:33 Hmm, it was trouble, trouble trouble.
27:36 And once they stopped and started using something more
27:39 natural, guess they have baby soaps and stuff now
27:41 the problem went away and the irritation was not a problem
27:44 anymore. So here it is. You have your simple Save Our Skin
27:49 recipes that can help you to save our skin
27:52 and then maybe one day we can look like her.
27:54 Simple recipes that you can enjoy. So Save Your Skin.
27:57 And make your own soaps at home. Thank you very much.
