So sing with us. 01:48 And sing with us, boys and girls. 01:51 I have decided to be like Jesus 01:57 I have decided to be like Jesus 02:04 I have decided to be like Jesus 02:10 No turning back, no turning back 02:16 Do you know what that means when we say no turning back? 02:20 It means that you can't turn back away from God 02:23 when you're already following Him. 02:25 That means... Wow, I like that. 02:26 we're making a decision. 02:27 That's exactly right. 02:29 We're making the decision to keep following Jesus 02:31 and to not be like Satan, huh? 02:35 Very good, Carter. 02:36 Let's sing that one more time. 02:39 I have decided to follow Jesus 02:45 I have decided to follow Jesus 02:52 I have decided to follow Jesus 02:58 No turning back, 03:01 no turning back 03:05 Let's sing "Be happy, be kind." 03:08 Because when we follow Jesus, 03:10 that's what we are, happy, aren't we? 03:12 And we're kind to everybody 'cause that's being like Jesus. 03:16 Be happy, be kind Be loving, be true 03:22 I'll meet you in heaven 03:26 And live next door to you 03:33 Well, we also like to learn memory verses 03:36 because it's really important to learn memory verses 03:39 from our Bible. 03:41 And who can tell me 03:42 where our memory verse is today? 03:44 Where is it found? Matthew. 03:45 Matthew. That's right. 03:47 Matthew 5:13. 03:50 I'll say it first, 03:51 and then you all say it with me, okay? 03:53 "You are the salt of the earth." 03:56 "You are the salt of the earth." 03:59 What do you think that means, boys and girls? 04:05 Well, since you like stories, 04:07 I think Pastor John's going to tell us what that means. 04:12 Wow! 04:13 Well, boys and girls, 04:15 if you like to hear about what the salt is, 04:18 I got a dynamic, exciting story for you today. 04:21 And you know what? It happened to me. 04:24 I was in California on a nice, hot sunny day. 04:29 I was outside playing, running, playing basketball, 04:33 riding my bike, 04:35 and there were so many other boys and girls 04:37 doing the same... 04:39 Do you have a bike? Yeah. 04:40 Do you like to ride your bike? Yeah. 04:42 Do you play basketball? Do you like to play soccer? 04:45 What do you like to play? 04:47 I like to play basketball, too. Wow. 04:50 And what about... 04:51 Do you like to play, Joshua? 04:53 I like to play football. 04:54 Football. Wow. 04:55 You mean like soccer? You mean like regular football? 04:59 Wow! 05:01 Do you like to play? We all like to play. 05:03 And I was so excited playing, 05:06 but I didn't know how hot it was. 05:07 It was almost 100 degrees. 05:10 Have you ever felt heat like that before? 05:13 No. No? 05:15 You don't know what it's like to be in 100-degree weather? 05:17 Well, when it's 100 degrees, 05:18 you'll know it because you'll start to sweat. 05:21 You ever sweat before? 05:23 It's just like water just comes down everywhere. 05:26 And you know, boys and girls, I was exhausted, I was tired, 05:30 I was breathing heavily. 05:32 Do you know how to breathe heavily? 05:34 Let's try it together. 05:37 I was so tired, and I was... 05:39 I'm thirsty, I'm hungry, 05:42 and I heard a bell in the distance, 05:44 and then I heard over the loud speaker, 05:46 "It's lunchtime, it's lunchtime." 05:51 Do you know what means? 05:53 What lunchtime means? What does lunchtime mean? 05:55 When we eat. It's time to do what? 05:56 Eat. Eat. 05:57 Do you like to eat? Me. 05:59 Man, I love food. 06:00 I may not look like it, but I love to eat. 06:02 Do you like to eat? 06:03 I like to eat... 06:05 Don't tell anybody, this is just between us. 06:07 I like potato chips too, you know. 06:10 And I like peanut butter and jelly. 06:12 And I didn't know what was going to happen 06:13 for lunch, 06:15 but I was hot, and I was thirsty, 06:17 and I was so glad they rang the lunch bell. 06:22 And you know what happened? 06:23 Everybody heard the lunch bell, it echoed everywhere. 06:26 Ding-ding, ding-ding, ding-ding. 06:29 Everywhere, we heard the lunch... 06:30 So everybody started walking toward the lunch room. 06:33 And there they were... 06:35 I had realized I was not the only one hot and sweaty, 06:38 there were other people. 06:39 Well, you know what happened? 06:41 I didn't get there quickly enough, 06:42 and there was a long line, 06:45 and remember, I was hot and thirsty. 06:49 Have you ever been thirsty before? 06:52 Let me see your thirsty look. 06:56 You know what thirsty means? 06:58 That means you need something to drink. 07:00 And the line was moving slowly, and people were... 07:03 I'm thinking, 07:04 "The food line looks so far away, 07:06 I can see the juice and the pies and the cakes 07:09 and the rice and the sandwiches." 07:12 And I couldn't wait to get there. 07:14 And so there, I was in line. And you know what? 07:16 After about it seemed like forever, 07:18 I finally got to the food line. 07:21 And I picked up... 07:22 The first thing I picked up, guess what it was? 07:25 Do you think it was food or a drink? 07:26 Which one do you think it was? Drink. 07:28 That's right. 07:29 And it was a big cup of grape juice. 07:33 You've ever had grape juice before? 07:34 Uh-huh. 07:35 What kind of juice do you like? 07:38 Do you like apple juice? Uh-huh. 07:39 You've ever had an orange juice before? 07:41 Do you like apple, Christiana? Yeah, apple juice. 07:42 You like grape? Apple juice. 07:44 She likes grape juice. Grape juice. 07:45 I like grape juice. 07:47 You know what happens with grape juice though, 07:48 if you spill it, it just stains everything. 07:49 Kind of like that color right there. 07:51 Anyway, I got my grape juice, I got a slice of pizza, 07:56 they had little corn dogs, and chips... 07:59 I love corn dog. And salad. 08:01 Am I making you hungry yet? 08:03 And I went and got my tray, 08:04 and I went, and I looked in the cafeteria, 08:06 and there were people everywhere. 08:08 And I stood up, seemed like forever, 08:10 looking for a place to sit. 08:12 I finally found a spot, and I took my tray over there, 08:16 picked up my long legs, 08:18 climbed into the bench and sat down. 08:19 And when I sat down, I looked at my tray, 08:21 and I realized, I didn't have a fork, 08:23 I didn't have a knife, I didn't have any napkins. 08:26 But I had my grape juice, I had my pie, 08:29 I had my slice of pizza 08:30 and my corn dogs and my potato salad 08:34 and my chips. 08:36 But I needed a knife and a fork, 08:37 and I needed some napkins. 08:38 So I got up, 08:40 and I went to get my knife and fork and napkins. 08:43 And I came back, 08:45 and everybody was still sitting there, 08:46 everybody was eating. 08:48 They already had said their grace. 08:49 And they were eating, 08:50 so I said, "Well, it's my turn to eat." 08:52 So I just climbed back in my seat, 08:53 put my long legs over the bench and sat down there, 08:57 and I was so thirsty. 08:59 Instead of eating something first, guess what I did? 09:03 Drink something. 09:04 And what do you think I drank? 09:06 Grape juice. The grape juice. 09:08 This big purple glass of cold ice-filled grape juice. 09:15 Did that make you thirsty? 09:16 Right about now, I could have some grape juice. 09:18 Anyway, I was so thirsty, I picked up my grape juice, 09:23 and I went... 09:26 And I heard people smirking. 09:27 You know what smirking is? Kind of like giggling. 09:30 Kind of like giggling and laughing. 09:32 And when I swallowed, I went... 09:41 This is what happened. 09:42 I said, "Who put salt in my grape juice?" 09:45 And then everybody busted out laughing. 09:48 They were giggling and pointing at me. 09:50 And you know what happened? 09:52 When I went to get my knife and fork and napkin, 09:54 somebody emptied the salt shaker 09:56 in my grape juice. 10:00 Isn't that horrible? My grape juice was ruined. 10:02 And you know what? Now I was really thirsty. 10:05 Well, I took my long legs, I got up, 10:08 and I ran toward the water fountain. 10:10 And I kept yelling, "I need water! 10:13 I need water! Get out of my way." 10:15 'Cause, man, they emptied the salt 10:16 into my grape juice. 10:18 And I came back, 10:19 and I realized everybody was laughing, 10:21 and I sat and said, "Who did that?" 10:22 And I found out who did that, it was just so funny. 10:25 But you know what? 10:26 I didn't want my grape juice anymore, I wanted water. 10:33 And then all of a sudden, it came to me. 10:35 I was thirsty, I needed water, somebody put salt, 10:40 and all of a sudden in my mind, 10:42 I thought about a verse in the Bible 10:45 that says, "You are the salt of the earth." 10:49 Say that with me. 10:50 "You are the salt of the earth." 10:53 And somebody once said to me... 10:56 You know what salt does? What does salt do? 10:59 Think about it. What does salt do? 11:01 It makes you thirsty. Huh. 11:03 It makes you thirsty. And it's sour. 11:06 And it's pretty sour though, 11:08 but that's why it makes you thirsty. 11:09 And then I remembered, 11:11 Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth." 11:15 And all of a sudden, I understood what Jesus meant. 11:19 You know what He means when He says 11:20 we are the salt of the earth? 11:23 It means we are just like Him. 11:25 Now what happens... 11:27 Don't forget what happens if you have a lot of salt, 11:30 what do you need? 11:31 Water. Water. 11:33 And you know what? Jesus is the water of life. 11:37 And, boys and girls, this is what I learned. 11:40 When we are kind... 11:41 Say that with me. 11:43 When we are kind and loving and nice... 11:48 And when we smile and are happy, 11:52 we are the salt of the earth. 11:54 And then all of a sudden, people see Jesus in us, 11:57 and they all of a sudden, want to be like Him. 12:00 And you know what happens when you're thirsty? 12:02 What do you need? Water. 12:04 And Jesus is the water that will quench our thirst. 12:07 So here's the lesson, boys and girls, 12:09 if ever you meet someone, and you want to share Jesus, 12:13 you ought to make them thirsty, and this is how you do it. 12:16 You'll be kind... Say that. 12:18 You'll be kind... You'll be kind... 12:19 And loving... And loving. 12:21 And just smile, 12:23 and they would want to be just like the Jesus that's in you. 12:26 Don't forget that. 12:27 You are the salt of the earth. Salt of the earth. 12:31 Wow! 12:32 What do we say to Pastor John? 12:33 Thank you. 12:35 Oh, you're welcome. I enjoyed myself. 12:37 And does that not make you want to all be like Jesus? 12:41 It does, doesn't it? 12:43 Well, right now, let's sing our prayer song. 12:46 And let's thank Jesus for being with us in our worship. 12:51 I will bend my knees 12:55 I will fold my hands 12:59 I will bow my head I will close my eyes 13:06 And very, very quiet be 13:11 While the prayer is said 13:15 Dear Jesus, thank you that we got to have a good worship. 13:19 Thank you that we're the salt of the earth, 13:21 and please help us to be kind to others and loving. 13:24 And I love you, Jesus, and amen. 13:26 Amen. 13:30 Mr. Rooster! It's Mr. Rooster! 13:32 Oh, that's all the time we have for now, boys and girls. 13:35 Until next time, remember, Jesus loves you. 13:39 Bye-bye. 13:48 Worship bells are sweet 13:50 Calling us to meet 13:52 With our best friend Jesus 13:56 Come and worship here 13:58 Jesus will be near 14:00 Smiling when He sees us 14:08 Worship bells are sweet 14:10 Calling us to meet 14:12 With our best friend Jesus 14:16 Come and worship here 14:18 Jesus will be near 14:20 Smiling when He sees us |
