" 02:25 Have you ever noticed 02:28 that things aren't always as they appear? 02:30 Consider the story of a spider. 02:33 Aristotle classified the spider as an insect. 02:36 Insects... it was known... have six legs. 02:39 Nobody questioned the great Aristotle for 1700 years. 02:43 It was just commonly assumed that spiders were insects 02:46 and, therefore, had six legs. 02:48 It was John-Baptiste Lamarck who presented the classification 02:52 of the spider as an arachnid having eight legs. 02:56 Merely because something is believed for centuries, 03:00 does not make it true. 03:01 Could it be that a tradition 03:03 like one of those long-held ideas 03:05 has slipped into the Christian church? 03:08 Is it possible that many have accepted falsehood 03:11 in the place of truth 03:13 and very few people today question it? 03:15 Could it be that the Christian church 03:17 has allowed man's tradition to overshadow God's way? 03:22 A tradition so old that almost no one knows how it started. 03:26 A tradition nearly all Christians accept 03:29 thinking they are following God's law 03:31 when, in fact, they are following the thoughts of man. 03:35 That is why we have chosen this theme for our meetings. 03:40 If it's in the Bible, 03:42 then, I believe it. 03:43 If it disagrees with the Bible, 03:45 then, it's not for me. 03:46 The book of Revelation predicts that Satan would attempt 03:50 to mislead the Christian church. 03:52 Revelation 12:9 says, 03:55 "So the great dragon was cast out, 03:57 that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, 04:00 who deceives the whole world; 04:02 he was cast to the earth, 04:03 and his angels were cast out with him. " 04:05 Satan is a deceiver... 04:07 his goal is to overthrow God's throne. 04:10 The foundation of any government lies in its authority 04:15 and ability to make laws. 04:16 If your subjects refuse to follow your laws, 04:20 they really are refusing to be your subjects. 04:23 Satan has attacked God's law 04:26 but right in the heart of His law 04:28 is the Sabbath. 04:29 So, isn't it logical that Satan, the master of counterfeit, 04:33 would attack the Creator 04:35 by challenging the symbol of creation... the Sabbath? 04:38 There are honest-hearted Christians 04:41 who read the Ten Commandments written with God's own finger 04:44 and see the fourth commandment in Exodus 20 verses 8 to 10 04:48 where it says, "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 04:53 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 04:57 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. " 05:00 When they read that, they become confused 05:04 because the church that they're attending 05:06 keeps Sunday... the first day... not the seventh-day Sabbath. 05:10 Surely, then the holy day must have been changed 05:13 in the New Testament. 05:14 Strangely, the first day means Sunday 05:18 is not even mentioned in Revelation anywhere 05:23 and only shows up eight times in other New Testament books. 05:28 So, if people think there is a command to keep Sunday holy, 05:32 we should find it in one of these Bible passages 05:35 talking about the first day, right? 05:37 Let's study. 05:39 Since millions of sincere 05:40 and loving Bible-believing Christians worship on Sunday, 05:43 why is the Bible curiously silent on this subject? 05:48 Could it be that much more is involved here 05:51 than actually appears on the surface? 05:54 Yes. 05:55 One of the greatest prophecies in the book of Revelation 05:58 involves the subject of Sunday worship. 06:01 But first, it would be impossible to understand 06:04 this important prophecy unless the topic for today 06:08 becomes crystal clear. 06:10 There are only eight New Testament Scriptures 06:13 regarding the first day of the week in the Bible. 06:16 In the Bible, Sunday is always called: 06:20 the first day of the week. 06:21 Saturday is always called: the seventh day. 06:26 Numbers are used to mark the days of the week 06:29 from Genesis to Revelation. 06:31 As we read these eight Scriptures, 06:34 take a mental note of whether or not 06:36 any of these texts 06:38 suggest that the first day should now be kept holy. 06:41 Consider text number one: 06:43 Mark 16:9: 06:45 "Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, 06:49 He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, 06:52 out of whom He had cast seven demons. " 06:55 Here we see that Jesus' resurrection 06:58 was on the first day of the week... Sunday. 07:01 Christians around the world celebrate His resurrection 07:04 on Easter... Sunday, every year. 07:08 Let's go to text two. 07:09 Matthew 28 verse 1. 07:12 "Now after the Sabbath, 07:13 as the first day of the week began to dawn, 07:16 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. " 07:19 Note, the Sabbath is ending here in this verse 07:23 and then, Sunday comes. 07:25 Does this tell us that the first day of the week is now holy? 07:29 No. 07:31 Text 3: John 20 verse 1, 07:34 Now on the first day of the week 07:37 Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, 07:39 while it was still dark, 07:40 and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. " 07:43 Okay, let's stop and think. 07:45 So far, do any of these three verses 07:49 suggest that the first day is to now be considered holy? 07:52 No. 07:55 Text 4: Mark 16: 1 to 2, 07:58 "Now, when the Sabbath was passed, Mary Magdalene, 08:01 Mary the mother of James, 08:03 and Salome bought spices, 08:05 that they might come and anoint Him. 08:07 Very early in the morning on the first day of the week, 08:11 they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. " 08:14 We know, Jesus was crucified on Friday evening. 08:18 Friday has always been called: The Preparation day 08:20 because they were to prepare 08:22 for God's holy Sabbath day, Saturday. 08:25 Jesus then rested in the tomb over the Sabbath... 08:29 the seventh day of the week Saturday 08:31 and then, Jesus rose on Sunday: the first day of the week. 08:35 Sunday is the day of Jesus' resurrection. 08:39 Text number 5: Luke 24:1, 08:43 "Now on the first day of the week, 08:45 very early in the morning, 08:46 they, and certain other women with them, 08:48 came to the tomb... " 08:50 Okay, there is zero instruction here 08:53 that Sunday is now God's holy Sabbath. 08:56 Text 6: John 20 verse 19, 09:00 "Then, the same day at evening, 09:03 being the first day of the week, 09:05 when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, 09:08 for fear of the Jews, 09:09 Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, 09:13 'Peace be with you. '" 09:14 Some say they gathered to inaugurate 09:17 the keeping of the first day of the week, Sunday as a holy day. 09:20 But the disciples could not have inaugurated a new holy day 09:25 in honor of the resurrection 09:27 because, until Jesus appeared in their midst, 09:30 they refused to believe He was raised 09:32 and that's proven in Mark 16:14, 09:35 where it says, "Later He appeared... 09:37 He... Jesus... rebuked their unbelief 09:40 and hardness of heart, 09:41 because they did not believe those who had seen Him 09:43 after He had risen. " 09:45 Okay, Friends, 09:47 so far, these six passages say nothing 09:50 about changing God's holy Sabbath day 09:52 to the first day, Sunday 09:54 but let's keep looking. 09:55 We have two more texts 09:57 that mention the first day of the week. 09:58 Text number 7: 1st Corinthians 16:1 to 2, 10:03 "Now concerning the collection for the saints, 10:06 as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, 10:09 so you must do also: 10:10 On the first day of the week 10:12 let each one of you lay something aside, 10:15 storing up as he may prosper, 10:18 that there be no collections when I come. " 10:20 Paul is instructing to set aside some of their money 10:25 at the beginning of the week 10:26 so they would have it ready for their Sabbath offering. 10:28 You see, Paul was gathering funds 10:31 for the Jerusalem Christians who were suffering from famine. 10:34 So, he wrote ahead of time 10:35 to the churches that he would visit 10:37 asking that each believer put money aside weekly 10:40 so it would be ready when he arrived. 10:42 Okay, text eight, our final text, 10:46 Acts 20 verse 7, 10:48 "Now on the first day of the week, 10:51 when the disciples came together to break bread, 10:53 Paul, ready to depart the next day, 10:55 spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. " 10:58 Does this text say to observe Sunday as a holy day 11:02 or that the seventh-day Sabbath was changed to the first day? 11:06 No. 11:08 The fact that they broke bread 11:10 or celebrated communion at this Service 11:12 does not indicate the day was now holy 11:14 because the Bible says... they broke bread every day. 11:17 In Acts 2:46, says, "So continuing daily 11:21 with one accord in the temple, 11:22 and breaking bread from house to house, 11:24 they ate their food with gladness 11:26 and simplicity of heart. " 11:28 We have now looked at all eight texts in the New Testament 11:33 that refer to the first day. 11:35 You have now seen for yourself 11:36 that there was never hint of any change. 11:39 So, how did a change in the day of worship come about? 11:43 Is one of the days a counterfeit? 11:45 Many honest Christians read in Luke 4:16 11:49 that Jesus, as His custom was, went to church 11:53 on the seventh-day Sabbath. 11:54 Christ said in Matthew 24:20, 11:58 that His disciples would be keeping the Sabbath 12:00 40 years after the cross 12:02 when He said, "And pray that your flight may not be in winter 12:07 or on the Sabbath. " 12:10 In Acts 13:42-44, 12:13 the Apostle Paul taught almost a whole city 12:16 to keep the seventh-day Sabbath. 12:18 Christians then read in Revelation 1:10 12:21 that the Lord has a day. 12:22 Then they read in Luke 6:5 that the Sabbath 12:25 is the Lord's day. 12:26 They read the same thing again in Mark 2:27, 28 12:30 and Matthew 12: 8... 12:32 they are confused and ask, 12:33 "Who changed the Bible Sabbath?" 12:35 Well, certainly God didn't 12:37 because the Bible says, Malachi 3:6, 12:40 "For I am the Lord, I do not change. " 12:45 I'm grateful for that 12:47 because I can have an assurity in His Word 12:49 that it's the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. 12:51 I love that about our God. 12:54 Pause... 12:56 Then they look in the Bible 12:57 and they see Jesus didn't change the Sabbath 12:59 because the Bible promises in Hebrews 13:8, 13:02 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. " 13:07 So, God did not change the Sabbath. 13:09 Jesus would not change the Sabbath. 13:11 And the disciples could not change the Sabbath! 13:14 Acts 5:29, 13:16 "But Peter and the other apostles answered and said, 13:19 'We ought to obey God rather than men. '" 13:22 So, the question is then, 13:25 "Who did it?" 13:26 In the book of Revelation chapter 13, 13:30 there is a beast that rises up out of the sea. 13:33 This chapter is where we read about the "Mark of the Beast" 13:37 and 666. 13:38 But notice how the beast is described. 13:41 Pause... 13:42 Now Friends, let me just say this... 13:45 beasts in the Bible are symbolic of kingdoms and powers... 13:49 not actual monsters that come up out of the sea, okay. 13:52 All right... Jesus loves us 13:54 and the book of Revelation is His love letter to us 13:57 so, let's... let's read that with that in mind. 14:00 Revelation 13:1, 14:02 "Then I stood on the sand of the sea. 14:05 And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, 14:07 having seven heads and ten horns, 14:09 and on his horns ten crowns, 14:12 and on his heads a blasphemous name. " 14:15 Here's a perfect example... 14:17 here's a beast in the Bible that represents a political 14:20 or religious power or kingdom. 14:21 This power that rises up is a blasphemous power. 14:25 It claims rights and power that only belong to God. 14:29 It continues... 14:31 "Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, 14:34 His feet were like the feet of a bear, 14:36 and his mouth like the mouth of a lion: 14:38 the dragon gave him his power, 14:40 his throne and great authority. " 14:42 Who is the dragon? 14:44 Satan. 14:45 He imbues this power with great authority. 14:48 The whole world listens to it declare its own laws 14:52 in place of God's law. 14:55 The Sabbath became a particular object of attack. 14:58 To understand this beast, 15:01 we go back to the book of Daniel the 7th chapter. 15:04 Here we have the same imagery as Revelation 13... 15:08 a lion... a bear... a leopard and the dragon. 15:13 Daniel 7 gives us the key to unlock Revelation 13 15:17 and understand the whole subject 15:20 of the Mark of the Beast and 666. 15:22 I love that God has written His Word 15:25 so that from the beginning to the end... it's consistent 15:28 and it all goes together. 15:29 You need every bit of it. 15:31 Let's look at Daniel 7 verses 2 and 3, 15:34 "Daniel spoke, saying, 15:36 'I saw in my vision by night, 15:37 and behold, the four winds of heaven 15:40 were stirring up the Great Sea. 15:42 And four great beasts came up from the sea, 15:45 each different from the other. '" 15:47 Notice this key to interpret Bible prophecy, 15:50 Daniel 7:17, 15:52 "Those great beasts, which are four, 15:55 are four kings which arise out of the earth. " 15:57 Daniel 7:23, 16:00 "The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth. " 16:03 So, Daniel sees four beasts that represents four kingdoms. 16:07 These four world-ruling kingdoms which start in Daniel's day 16:12 take us down the stream of time. 16:14 Pause... 16:15 If you were with us on the first night 16:17 for the first presentation, 16:18 you remember we saw four kingdoms in Daniel chapter 2. 16:21 Those metals in the image that represented Babylon, 16:25 Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome and divided Europe, 16:29 this vision of the beast adds more information 16:32 to the vision in Daniel 2. 16:34 It brings to light a power from the time of divided Europe 16:38 that would arise and attempt to change God's law. 16:41 Let's look at how the Bible predicts these events 16:44 and see clearly how history confirms what actually happened. 16:48 Now, the first beast... 16:51 Daniel 7 verse 4 says, "The first was like a lion, 16:55 and had eagle's wings. 16:56 I watched till its wings were plucked off; 16:59 and it was lifted up from the earth 17:01 and made to stand on two feet like a man, 17:04 and a man's heart was given to it. " 17:06 The first beast was like a lion with eagle's wings. 17:09 Okay... 17:11 When the archaeologists were digging in Iraq 17:14 near the site of ancient Babylon, 17:15 they found engravings on the walls 17:18 of a lion with eagle's wings. 17:20 In the ancient world, people knew 17:23 that lions symbolized Babylon. 17:26 Then, another nation was to rise... 17:28 Babylon wouldn't rule the world forever. 17:31 Daniel 7 verse 5, 17:33 "And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. 17:36 It was raised up on one side, 17:39 and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. 17:42 And they said thus to it: 17:44 'Arise, devour much flesh!'" 17:45 The combined kingdoms of Media and Persia 17:49 overthrew Babylon. 17:51 The bear of Medo-Persia... raising itself up on one side 17:55 represents the Persians 17:57 overthrowing the first... Babylon 17:59 and then dominating the Medes. 18:01 What does the bear have in its mouth? 18:03 Three ribs... 18:05 You see, when Medo-Persia conquered the world, 18:08 it first conquered Babylon... 18:10 then it went northward and conquered Lydia... 18:13 then southward and conquered Egypt. 18:15 These three nations... Babylon, Lydia and Egypt, 18:19 represent the three ribs. 18:21 Can you see how accurate Bible prophecy is? 18:24 I love it. 18:26 The third empire rises in Daniel 7 verse 6, 18:29 "After this I looked, 18:31 and there was another, like a leopard, 18:33 which had on its back four wings of a bird. 18:35 The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it. " 18:40 Greece became the third nation that was predicted to rise. 18:44 We know that Alexander the Great 18:46 was the most prominent Greek Leader. 18:48 He was just over 30 years of age 18:50 when he conquered the entire then-known world 18:52 and so quickly. 18:54 Can you see why Greece is depicted 18:57 as a leopard with wings? 18:58 But what do the four heads represent? 19:01 Alexander the Great died when he was 33 years old. 19:05 Unlike most kingdoms, 19:07 Alexander's sons didn't take the throne. 19:09 Instead, his four Generals divided up the Greek Empire 19:14 and each took a portion to rule over. 19:17 Thus, the four-headed leopard. 19:19 Friends, it is so important for you and me 19:23 to know the prophetic rise and fall of these kingdoms... 19:25 it matters 19:27 because we must know for our futures, 19:29 that when the Bible warns that something is going to happen, 19:32 we can believe it 19:34 and we can believe that it does happen exactly as it says 19:37 and right on time. 19:38 We can assuredly take God at His Word 19:41 as He warns us... 19:43 not to scare us but to prepare us. 19:45 Let's continue, 19:47 the bible describes a fourth empire... 19:50 Daniel 7 verse 7, 19:52 "After this I saw in the night visions, 19:54 and behold, a fourth beast, 19:56 dreadful and terrible, 19:58 exceedingly strong. 20:00 It had huge iron teeth; 20:03 it was devouring, and breaking in pieces, 20:06 and trampling the residue with its feet. 20:08 It was different from all the beasts that were before it, 20:12 and it had ten horns. " 20:14 It is very clear that this fourth beast with iron teeth 20:19 represents the iron kingdom of Rome. 20:21 This period takes us to the time of Christ 20:24 when Rome ruled the world. 20:26 Christianity grew up in this Roman Empire. 20:30 The Bible describes the collapse of the Roman Empire 20:33 clearly in the symbolism of the toes of the image 20:37 and the horns of the fourth beast. 20:39 The image of Daniel 2 had feet and toes of iron and clay 20:43 representing Europe. 20:44 The fourth beast here has ten horns. 20:47 History shows Rome was divided into ten main divisions. 20:51 Awesome... 20:52 During the time, the Barbarian tribes were taking over Europe, 20:56 religious apostasy entered the church 20:59 and there was conflict over worship 21:01 and the Sabbath was changed. 21:04 Daniel 7 verse 8, 21:06 "I was considering the horns, 21:08 and there was another horn, a little one, 21:11 coming up among them, 21:13 before whom three of the first horns 21:16 were plucked out by the roots. 21:17 And there in this horn, 21:20 were eyes like the eyes of a man, 21:22 and a mouth speaking pompous words. " 21:26 In Europe, among these ten horns 21:29 there is another power that rises... 21:31 a little horn... that's different from all the rest. 21:34 The Bible gives us evidence to clearly identify this power. 21:38 First, this Little Horn comes up among the first ten horns, 21:43 so, if the ten horns are divisions of Rome, 21:46 then, this Little Horn has to come up within Western Rome... 21:51 excuse me... Western Europe. 21:53 This Little Horn doesn't come up in Asia... Africa... 21:57 or the Americas... 21:58 it's roots are in European soil. 22:01 Secondly, the Bible says, 22:03 this Little Horn would arise after the Ten Horns. 22:07 So then it cannot come up at all 22:11 in the days of Babylon, Medo-Persia, 22:13 Greece or Rome. 22:15 It has to come up after the fall of Roman Empire. 22:20 Be clear on that Friends, 22:21 because there's a lot of other theories out there 22:25 that are not Biblical. 22:26 It has to come up after the fall of Rome. 22:30 The Bible also says that this Little Horn has eyes like a man. 22:34 Eyes represent intelligence 22:37 but it is a man's wisdom not God's. 22:40 It is a human religious system based on man's teachings 22:45 which would rise out of Rome. 22:47 Notice, the Bible says in Daniel 7:24, 22:51 that it's diverse or different from all the rest. 22:54 It says, "he shall be different from the first ones... " 22:58 because it is not primarily a political power... 23:01 it is also a religious power... 23:04 a religio-political power. 23:07 What would this power do? 23:09 It would attempt to change the very law of God. 23:12 Daniel 7:25 predicts, 23:15 "He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, 23:20 he shall persecute the saints of the Most High, 23:23 and shall intend to change times and law... " 23:29 might that be the Sabbath? 23:31 Can you think of any greater words against the Most High 23:35 than claiming to have the authority to change God's Law? 23:39 This is obviously speaking about divine laws... 23:43 not insignificant tax or political laws. 23:46 Daniel 8:12 tells us that this this Little Horn power 23:51 would cast truth down to the ground... 23:53 he did all this and prospered. 23:56 So, coming out of the old Roman Empire, 24:00 a religious power would rise. 24:02 It would be small at first, 24:04 but it would become extremely powerful. 24:07 It would use its power to claim authority 24:10 to change the very law of God. 24:13 History records for us a gradual change 24:17 that took place from Sabbath to Sunday. 24:21 Dr. John Eadie documents the roots of this change 24:25 in his Bible Encyclopedia on page 561. 24:29 He says, "Sabbath... a Hebrew word signifying rest... 24:34 Sunday was a name given by the heathens 24:38 to the first day of the week, 24:40 because it was the day on which they worshipped the sun. " 24:44 Sun worship was accepted and prevalent 24:48 through Egypt, Babylon, Persia and Rome. 24:51 Even the days of the week were affected. 24:54 History shows us that the Greeks and Romans 24:57 named the days of the week after planetary bodies. 25:00 Many were called after their gods and goddesses. 25:04 Let's look, Sunday: the day of the sun god. 25:08 Monday: the day of the moon god. 25:12 Tuesday: is for Twia... the god of war. 25:17 Wednesday: is Woden's day... the carrier of the dead. 25:21 Thursday: is the god of thunder, Thor. 25:26 Friday: the day of Freya, 25:28 the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. 25:30 Saturday: the day of Saturn, god of reaping harvest. 25:35 Hmmm... 25:37 So, once again, Mythology was incorporated 25:40 into our way of thinking in today's society. 25:42 Keep in mind that God... in the Bible... 25:46 marks the days by numbers. 25:49 So, we have the first day... the seventh day... 25:53 and that's all throughout Old Testament and New Testament. 25:57 God refers to the days by numbers. 25:59 All right, when you come to the fourth century, 26:03 the Roman Emperor Constantine 26:05 had strong devotion to worshipping the sun... 26:08 even putting the sun god on the coins he minted. 26:12 But he had a dilemma, 26:14 Rome was falling apart... 26:16 Constantine desired to unite his empire. 26:19 He came up with what he thought was a brilliant idea. 26:22 Why not unite the empire around Sunday worship? 26:26 You see, Constantine had looked up at the sun before a battle 26:31 and saw a cross of light above 26:34 and with it, the Greek words meaning: 26:37 in this sign... conquer. 26:39 Constantine commanded his troops 26:42 to adorn their shields with a Christian symbol 26:46 and thereafter, they were victorious. 26:48 Here comes the culmination of sun worship and Christianity. 26:53 Constantine's decree in 321 A.D. says, 26:58 "On the venerable Day of the Sun 27:00 let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, 27:04 and let all the shops be closed. " 27:06 In an attempt to unite the Empire, 27:10 Constantine issued the first Sunday Law. 27:13 In the days of Constantine, 27:15 he marched his armies through a river 27:18 and then, deemed them baptized. 27:20 That's just a bunch of wet pagans. 27:23 Here Church and State joined hands in an attempt 27:27 to Christianize the pagans and unite the Empire. 27:30 The Roman Government and the Roman Church united 27:34 and here's an amazing statement 27:36 that is really incredible. 27:37 It's from March 1994 in the Catholic World, page 809, 27:44 "The Sun was a foremost god with heathendom... 27:49 There is, in truth, something royal, 27:52 kingly about the sun, 27:54 making it a fit emblem of Jesus, the Sun of Justice. 27:58 Hence the Church in these countries 28:01 would seem to have said, 28:03 'Keep that old pagan name. 28:04 It shall remain consecrated and sanctified. ' 28:08 And thus the pagan Sunday, 28:10 dedicated to Balder... the mythic sun god... 28:13 became the Christian Sunday... " 28:16 Do you see how Sunday came into the church? 28:19 Christians, to escape persecution, 28:22 had for several years been asking 28:24 to distinguish themselves from the Jews. 28:26 Sunday gradually became emphasized 28:29 because of Christ's resurrection 28:31 and gradually Church Leaders 28:33 to make the pagan sun worshippers more comfortable 28:36 began keeping Sunday in place of the Bible Sabbath. 28:40 Constantine wanted to unite his Empire 28:44 and Roman Church Leaders wanted to convert the pagans. 28:47 So, Sunday became the vehicle to accomplish both. 28:52 The Biblical Sabbath was changed by the Roman Church and State. 28:57 God didn't change it. 28:59 Jesus didn't change it. 29:00 The disciples didn't change it 29:02 and you would have to convince me that over 20 million Jews 29:07 woke up one day and forgot what day of the week it was. 29:10 As a nation, they have been keeping the Sabbath... 29:14 the seventh-day Saturday since before the exodus. 29:18 Pause... 29:19 The Catholic Church Council of Laodicea, 29:22 records the first prohibition of keeping the Bible Sabbath. 29:25 The Roman Catholic Bishops met there and look at what happened. 29:29 At the Council of Laodicea in 325 AD, 29:33 "Christians shall not Judaize," 29:36 that is, they shall not keep the Sabbath... 29:39 "and be idle on Saturday, 29:41 but the Lord's day they shall especially honour, 29:43 and as being Christians, shall, if possible, 29:47 do not work on that day. 29:48 If, however they are found Judaizing, 29:51 they shall be shut out from Christ. " 29:55 So, here's a Church Council 29:57 that unites with the Roman Government under Constantine 30:01 and says, "We are shifting the authority of Sabbath 30:04 to Sunday. 30:06 This will unite the Empire and distance us from the Jews. " 30:09 In doing so, however, 30:12 they were unconsciously fulfilling Daniel's prophecy 30:17 in Daniel 7:25. 30:19 "and shall think to change times and laws... " 30:23 stressing that an earthly power growing up out of Rome 30:27 would attempt to change God's law. 30:30 God says, "Beware. " 30:32 Now, let's go to the Convert's Catechism... 30:35 a Roman Catholic instructional guide 30:38 and read the answer regarding the change of the Sabbath. 30:41 This is very clear, Friends, 30:44 Question: "Which is the Sabbath day?" 30:48 Answer: "Saturday is the Sabbath day. " 30:52 Question: "Why do we observe Sunday instead of Sabbath?" 30:57 Answer: "because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity 31:02 from Saturday to Sunday. " 31:04 Pause... 31:06 Now, I'd like to pause right here. 31:08 It's important for me personally 31:11 to tell you that we will be addressing a lot of heavy topics 31:15 and I will be quoting different historical documents 31:18 that are not intended to accuse individuals 31:21 but to show prophecy fulfilling. 31:25 I believe there are many priests and faithful believers 31:29 in Roman Catholicism 31:30 who serve God to the best of their ability 31:33 and are seen by God as His children. 31:35 Pause... 31:37 The information quoted here 31:39 is directed only towards the System... 31:41 the Roman Catholic System 31:44 that has a number of doctrines which we will see 31:47 clearly go against Scripture 31:50 and as truth seekers, 31:52 it is my sincere desire 31:54 to lay the clear Word of God before you, 31:56 so, you may decide for yourself 31:59 what is truth and what is error. 32:02 Pause... 32:04 Okay... 32:06 Are you aware that the Catholic Church 32:09 modified God's Ten Commandments? 32:11 Let's go to their own document, 32:14 The Catholic Encyclopedia Volume 4, page 153, 32:18 it says, "The church, after changing the day of rest 32:23 from the Jewish Sabbath of the seventh day of the week 32:27 to the first, 32:28 made the third commandment refer to Sunday 32:31 as the day to be kept holy as the Lord's Day. " 32:36 The Catholic Encyclopedia states 32:38 that the commandment regarding time 32:40 had been changed by the Church. 32:42 By the way, some may have noticed 32:44 that this statement refers to the third commandment. 32:47 But we have already seen in the Bible, with our own eyes 32:51 that the Sabbath is the fourth commandment. 32:54 The Roman Power... the Middle Ages 32:56 also changed the law of God by removing the 2nd Commandment 33:00 the one prohibiting image... saint... idol worship. 33:04 Hmmm... 33:06 Since they now only have nine commandments, 33:09 got to get it back to ten... 33:11 so, they took the tenth... "Thou shalt not covet... " 33:15 and divided it into two. 33:17 Solved... 33:18 This illustrates the mindset of the church 33:22 overriding the Word of God. 33:24 Karl Keating, one of the foremost Catholic Lay Scholars 33:27 wrote a book as a challenge to Protestants. 33:30 This Catholic Author is reasoning with Protestants 33:34 saying, "If you want to go to the Bible 33:36 you should keep the Bible Sabbath. " 33:39 Let's read his words in Catholicism and Fundamentalism 33:44 on page 38. 33:45 Quote: "Fundamentalists meet for worship on Sunday, 33:50 yet there is no evidence in the Bible 33:52 that corporate worship was to be made on Sundays. 33:55 The Jewish Sabbath, or day of rest, 33:58 was, of course, Saturday. 34:00 It was the Catholic Church that decided 34:03 Sunday should be the day of worship for Christians, 34:06 in honor of the resurrection. " 34:08 Pause... end quote. 34:10 In other words, if you don't want to go to the Bible, 34:14 he's saying... you should go back to the Catholic Church 34:17 who freely claims the authority to change God's law 34:21 as it sees fit. 34:23 Well, wait a minute, 34:25 God gives clear warnings about messing with Him 34:29 or His Word. 34:30 Revelation 22:18-19, 34:33 "For I testify to everyone who hears the words of this prophecy 34:37 of this book: 34:39 If anyone adds to these things, 34:40 God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. 34:44 And if anyone takes away from the words of the book 34:47 of this prophecy, 34:49 God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, 34:52 from the holy city... " 34:54 This is serious, Friends. 34:55 Then in Matthew 15:3 through 9, 34:58 He... Jesus... answered and said to them, 35:01 "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God 35:04 because of your tradition? 35:06 Thus you have made the commandment of God 35:09 of none effect by your tradition. Hypocrites! 35:12 Well, did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying, 35:15 'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, 35:18 and honor Me with their lips, 35:20 but their heart is far from Me. 35:22 And in vain they worship Me, 35:25 teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. '" 35:28 Sunday sacredness has... 35:32 came from the tradition and commandments of men. 35:34 Who will you follow? God or man? 35:39 The issue is much more than a matter of one day 35:42 versus another. 35:43 The issue is: What is your guide? 35:46 Is it the Bible or is it tradition? 35:50 The issue is: Does any human church or human religious leader 35:54 for whatever reason or motive 35:56 have the authority to change God's law 35:59 that was written with His finger on those tables of stone? 36:02 Pause... 36:04 It's all about: Who has the authority? 36:06 Who do we demonstrate who we worship? 36:08 The rebellion of Satan revolves around worship. 36:12 It is the theme of right or wrong 36:15 and it began in Genesis. 36:18 The story of Cain and Abel depicts two types of people 36:22 who travel two different paths in life. 36:24 One worshipped the way God prescribed 36:27 and one definitely did not. 36:29 Which one was blessed and accepted by God? 36:32 Which one's pride led to murder and was cursed by God? 36:37 Well, Cain and Abel were raised by the same parents. 36:40 They had held different attitudes about God 36:42 and His authority. 36:44 This is where their paths diverge. 36:46 Abel saw the mercy of God 36:49 in the way the Creator provided 36:51 for the redemption for the human race. 36:53 But Cain rebelled against God in his heart. 36:57 The distinction may not have been obvious 37:00 until it came time to bring their sacrifice before God. 37:03 The drama between Cain and Abel 37:05 is really about the struggle between Cain and himself. 37:09 Although Cain was given a chance to turn around, 37:12 he held ever more tightly to his stubborn pride 37:15 and stumbled further away from God. 37:18 God's plan for salvation is not negotiable. 37:22 It is a gift. 37:25 The human heart... 37:26 when it clings proudly to self and tradition, 37:28 stumbles on a slippery downhill slope of destruction. 37:32 God constantly reaches out to those who rebel 37:36 to give them an opportunity to make a turnaround 37:39 of repentance. 37:41 You are not born a winner 37:43 and you are not born a loser. 37:44 You are born a chooser. 37:47 "Choose you this day whom you will serve. " 37:50 Often Satan's strategy is to cause me to ignore or break 37:54 just one of God's commandments. 37:56 James 2:10 through 12 tells us why. 37:59 "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, 38:02 and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. " 38:05 God's law is like a ten-sided fortress. 38:09 Only one side needs to be broken down 38:12 to permit the enemy to enter. 38:13 Give the devil an inch and he will become your ruler. 38:17 To give up the Bible Sabbath 38:20 given by God as a sign of His creative authority, 38:23 does matter, Friend. 38:24 I choose to follow what God gave to Adam in the Garden of Eden. 38:28 I choose to follow the examples of Christ Himself. 38:31 What about you? 38:33 God says that the Sabbath is a great sign. 38:36 It's a sign of our loyalty to Christ. 38:38 It is a sign... we believe He created our world. 38:42 In the Garden of Eden, Satan said to Eve, 38:45 "What difference does a tree make? 38:47 All trees are alike... " 38:48 and Eve lost Eden because she bought that lie. 38:52 And many Christians today are buying into this... 38:56 into a deception. 38:57 People say, "What difference does a day make? 39:00 All days are alike. " 39:01 With God... all days are not alike. 39:04 One day was blessed by God... the seventh. 39:09 One day was sanctified by God... set aside... 39:12 and God rested on only one day... the Sabbath. 39:16 The issues that we are dealing with are issues of authority... 39:19 issues of obedience... 39:21 our choice is... the Bible or tradition. 39:25 Jesus... or religious leaders... 39:29 God's law or man's dogmas? 39:33 God's instruction or human teaching? 39:36 God's way... 39:39 or man's way? 39:40 Does this mean that everyone who keeps Sunday is lost? 39:44 No... 39:46 There are many Sunday-keeping Christians who love Jesus. 39:49 Everyone who keeps Sunday is not lost. 39:52 They may be living up to all the light they know. 39:55 The difference is... when they learn more 39:58 are they willing to follow it? 40:00 This makes me think of Perfecto. 40:02 In a remote village high in the mountains of Mindoro, 40:05 Philippines 40:07 there he lives as an influential pagan chief. 40:10 You see, spiritualism and local lore were his way of life. 40:14 Sometimes, people would visit the village 40:16 and try to convert him to Christianity 40:18 but what they said was different from what they practiced 40:22 and the confusion annoyed him. 40:23 He would tell them, "Go away... " 40:25 then he would find comfort in his prized possession... 40:29 his radio. 40:30 He only listened to one station 40:32 because it played the music that he liked 40:34 and one day, after his favorite song ended, 40:37 a new program came on which caught his attention. 40:40 The Broadcaster talked about the seventh-day Sabbath 40:44 as the true day of rest. 40:45 This was new to him 40:47 and was different from what other Christians had professed. 40:50 Happily he went to the Sunday keepers in his village 40:53 and told them that they were worshipping on the wrong day 40:55 because of what he had heard on the radio. 40:58 He was surprised when these people showed a real interest 41:01 in what he was sharing. 41:03 After that, he called the whole village together 41:05 to listen to his radio. 41:07 Everyone loved the program. 41:09 The next day, they all gathered together hoping to hear more. 41:12 They rejoiced when the program came on. 41:15 Perfecto was convinced that what he was hearing 41:19 was the truth. 41:20 He sought out the Radio Broadcaster and told him 41:23 that his whole village wanted to be baptized... 41:25 all 77 of them. 41:28 The Bible truth changed not only his life 41:32 but the life of the entire village. 41:34 I'll never forget seeing Perfecto 41:37 coming up out of the water 41:39 and raising his hands to Jesus at his baptism 41:42 where 1400 other souls joined him 41:46 in giving their lives to Christ. 41:48 In Revelation 14:12, God's Word says, 41:53 "Here is the patience of the saints; 41:55 here are those who keep the commandments of God 41:58 and have the faith of Jesus. " 42:00 In the last days of earth's history, 42:02 God will have a group of people 42:04 who love Jesus. 42:06 They love Him so much 42:07 that they obey at all cost 42:09 like the one woman who made her way 42:12 to the baptismal site at a nearby lake. 42:15 She had attended prophecy meetings just like this 42:19 but her husband had disagreed with her attendance. 42:22 So, on the day for her to be baptized, 42:24 she left the house in her white robe 42:26 and her husband secretly followed her. 42:29 He grabbed a machete and held it behind his back. 42:32 The pastor was calling for the people to enter the water 42:36 and as she made her way, 42:38 her husband abruptly stopped her 42:40 and threatened that she'd better not take one more step 42:43 or that would be her last. 42:45 Pause... 42:46 As he slowly revealed the knife behind his back, 42:49 she continued as the water reached her ankles... 42:53 then her calves... 42:54 then to her knees 42:56 and she whispered, 42:58 "No one will stop me from taking Jesus as my Savior. " 43:02 He aggressively challenged her, "Not one more step... " 43:07 and she closed her eyes and moved forward 43:12 saying, "I give myself to Jesus... 43:15 I learned the truth and I will not turn back. " 43:19 Tears began to fall from her eyes 43:22 and what she didn't see 43:24 were the tears falling from her husband's eyes. 43:27 Suddenly, there was silence as everyone was watching. 43:31 The husband raised his knife only to drop it and declare, 43:36 "If you're willing to give up your life for this Jesus, 43:39 then, I want to know Him too. " 43:42 Pause... 43:43 Friend, are you willing to follow wherever Jesus leads 43:48 regardless of the consequences? 43:49 Though the road may sometimes be difficult, 43:53 it leads to the Tree of Life in the City of God. 43:58 Let's pray together, 44:00 "Heavenly Father, 44:03 the truth is calling 44:05 and we cry out to You Jesus for mercy and strength. 44:10 Give us the gift of discernment and understanding 44:13 to see clearly as we place our trust completely in You. 44:19 There is nothing in this world worth losing our own soul over. 44:24 Protect our commitment to follow every Bible truth 44:28 You reveal to us in Your holy Word. 44:30 Bless each listener tonight. 44:33 In Jesus' precious powerful name, amen. " 47:41 God said, "Think nicely, 47:44 love is an endless forgiveness. " 47:47 What's interesting is 47:49 that I recently learned of my Sister's last Facebook comment 47:53 which said the same thing. 47:55 Local language... 47:58 The Holy Spirit urged him to open his Bible 48:02 and Freddie realized that Jesus could fill his empty heart. 48:06 So, he sought out an Adventist Church 48:09 and during his studies, he became fascinated 48:12 with the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation. 48:14 I then devoted myself to teaching others about it. 48:19 he began traveling from city to city 48:24 teaching crowds about the hopeful truths about Jesus 48:28 found in Revelation. 48:29 Narrator: But what always bothered me 48:33 was that I didn't know how to keep them studying after I left 48:36 until I heard about cell-phone evangelism. 48:40 He would direct the people to AWR360 Bible Studies 48:45 given right on their phone. 48:47 This allowed him to keep track 48:49 if the people continued to listen 48:51 and by God's grace... they did. 48:53 Many have now joined churches across South Africa and Namibia. 48:58 With this tool, 49:01 people are learning more and more about the Lord 49:03 in a quick and easy way. 49:04 Music... 49:06 I also visit prisoners and give them AWR radios. 49:10 What a blessing it is to do the work and will of the Lord. 49:13 From the throes of death, 49:16 Freddie now is spreading the Word of God 49:18 to all across his country. 49:21 As you share the Word of the Lord, 49:23 please consider using AWR 49:25 360's cell-phone evangelism resources. 49:28 They are a great way to keep people studying 49:30 and learning about their Savior. 49:32 From broadcast to baptism this is AWR 360. 49:38 Music... 49:40 Watch as an entire pagan village converts to Adventism. 49:44 Hi, I'm Cami and this is AWR 360. 49:48 Music... 49:52 Music of: Lift up the trumpet 49:53 and loud let it ring 49:55 Jesus is coming again. 50:03 With its stunning natural beauty 50:06 and incredible wildlife, 50:09 the Philippines is a traveler's paradise. 50:10 These islands have one of the highest rates 50:13 of new animal species. 50:14 This is mainly due to virgin jungle areas 50:17 scattered in the more than 7,000 islands 50:19 that comprise the Philippines. 50:21 Many of these areas are inhabited 50:23 only by indigenous people 50:24 who live off the land and lead simple lives. 50:27 Surrounded by lush vegetation and thick rain forests, 50:31 the people on this island live steeped in superstition 50:35 and spiritualism. 50:36 But in some of these villages, a privileged few own a radio 50:40 and that is how AWR is reaching them. 50:43 In 2017, 50:45 AWR began broadcasting the Adventist message 50:47 on the island of Mindoro, Philippines. 50:49 Many doubted this would work 50:51 but God's spirit entered the hearts of the people 50:53 and they listened earnestly. 50:55 They were hungry to know more about a God 50:57 who loved them 50:59 and they eagerly listened to the programs. 51:00 We are now on our way to a remote village 51:03 at the top of a mountain. 51:04 After many hours of driving, we finally arrive. 51:08 I'm greeted by Perfecto, the village Chief. 51:11 then we head to a villager's house for a Sabbath Service. 51:15 Everyone joins in for the songs and Bible lessons. 51:20 Music... 51:22 Then Perfecto shows me the future site for their church. 51:26 He personally donated this land 51:29 and construction has already started. 51:31 But how did this former pagan chief hear about Jesus? 51:34 Spiritualism and local lore 51:39 was my way of life. 51:40 others would visit the village 51:43 and try to convert him to Christianity. 51:45 But what they said was always different 51:48 from what they practiced 51:49 and the confusion annoyed him. 51:51 He would tell them to, "Go away... " 51:54 Then he would find comfort in his prize possession... 51:57 his radio. 51:58 Even though he could pick up a few stations, 52:01 he only listened to one... 52:03 it always played the music he liked. 52:05 But one day, after his favorite song ended, 52:08 a new program came on. 52:10 It began with trumpet music that caught his attention. 52:13 Then a Speaker talked about the Sabbath 52:15 being the true day of rest. 52:17 As Perfecto listened, he became very happy. 52:20 Now, he had a way to annoy the Sunday keepers in his village 52:24 and show them they were wrong. 52:26 Then, they would stop bothering him once and for all. 52:29 But he was surprised when they showed a real interest 52:32 in what they heard. 52:34 So, he called the whole village to listen to the Presentation. 52:38 To his surprise, everyone loved the Program. 52:42 But when it was over, they weren't sure if it would return. 52:45 So, they waited anxiously the next day 52:48 and sure enough they cheered 52:51 when they heard the trumpets again. 52:53 Perfecto was satisfied that he had proven the villagers wrong 52:57 on their day of rest. 52:59 But what he hadn't counted on 53:00 was a change in his own heart. 53:03 God's Spirit had impressed him 53:05 and he was convinced that what he was hearing 53:08 was the truth. 53:09 He decided he must meet with the Speaker of the Program. 53:14 Our Broadcasting Team was surprised 53:16 by this man and his words. 53:17 He declared, "My whole village wants to be baptized. " 53:21 Bible Workers were immediately sent 53:24 but the villagers had a need... 53:26 a need the Lord had already made a provision for. 53:30 Meanwhile in the town of Neva, Idaho, 53:33 a children's Sabbath School Class 53:35 became inspired to choose an AWR project. 53:38 "I did a project to help raise money for Bibles. " 53:42 "I gave almost my... all of my birthday money. " 53:46 "I did a bake sale at the Pacific Press with my friends. " 53:50 "And we sold cookies... " 53:53 "Chicken eggs... " 53:54 "Other pops at a yard sale. " 53:55 "My sister, mother and me... 53:58 and she gave her money to Adventist World Radio. " 54:01 "And one man... he just came 54:04 and gave us one hundred dollar bill for the donation. " 54:09 Cami: The money for the Bibles was raised 54:13 and there was exactly enough for the entire village. 54:17 What a mighty God we serve! 54:20 Soon, the entire village headed down the mountain. 54:26 All 77 people from Perfecto's village 54:31 had made the decision to accept Jesus and be baptized 54:35 and on that beautiful Sabbath day, 54:38 I had the privilege of watching Perfecto being baptized 54:42 by AWR's own President, Duane McKey. 54:45 Many others followed him into the ocean 54:49 to join him in baptism. 54:51 Perfecto: I praise God for AWR 54:54 and how they are broadcasting the truth to the world. 54:58 Back in Idaho, we were able to meet the children face to face. 55:01 We also had a question for them. 55:03 Speaker: Did God, at the same time 55:05 this whole village was coming to Jesus 55:07 orchestrate... put together 55:09 some precious children across the other side of the world 55:13 to raise money for Bibles at the same time? 55:17 What do you think? 55:18 Children: Yeah. Speaker: Yeah, He did... 55:21 amen... 55:23 Speaker: This is the "God" thing... 55:25 this is that "God" thing, amen 55:29 and there's a picture of the Bibles arriving... 55:32 there's your Bibles arriving at the village... 55:34 these are your Bibles... 55:36 you know these children now have a Bible because of you! 55:37 Music... 55:39 "When I saw the kids getting the Bibles, 55:41 I felt really good that I did something for someone else. " 55:45 "I felt really happy. " 55:47 "I felt really proud. " 55:50 "We should give Bibles because 55:52 we want everyone to go to heaven with us. " 55:57 "That Jesus is coming soon 55:59 and I hope you all are getting ready. " 56:03 "Please do what we did 56:06 and maybe you'll see someone in heaven 56:08 and they'll say, 'I'm in heaven because of you. '" 56:10 Music... |
