00:04 to chew on... My name is Yvonne Lewis 00:07 and you're watching Urban Report. 00:31 Hello and welcome to Urban Report. 00:35 My guest today is Pr. GW Chew 00:38 a gourmet vegan chef and pastor. 00:41 Welcome to Urban Report Pastor Chew... 00:43 Hello, how are you doing? Doing great, praise the Lord, 00:47 how are you doing? I'm doing excellent... 00:50 that's great... I'm so glad to have you here 00:52 thank you so much for taking the time to do this. 00:55 It is definitely a pleasure for me as well... 00:57 Thank you... thank you... so, "Chew"... "Chew" 01:01 where did that name come from? how did you get the name "Chew" 01:05 that's your real name isn't it? 01:07 That's my real last name, exactly... 01:09 Wow, did you get teased a lot? 01:10 You know, I got teased more on my first name... 01:14 growing up... and then as I get older, 01:15 I get more teased on my last name... 01:17 Now, your first name is...? 01:21 It's really GW... it's just two letters... 01:23 No... it doesn't stand for anything... it's GW 01:26 That's my real name... exactly... 01:28 GW Chew... GW Chew... and actually 01:31 my father's name was Grandwell Waymond Chew 01:33 and I got the "G" from Grandwell and "W" from Waymand 01:36 and that's how I got the name GW... 01:38 so, that's my real name... 01:40 All right... all right... and so, when did you find 01:44 how did you get the name... give us a little history about that 01:48 Yeah no problem... it's really an interesting story for me 01:51 you know, I'm a chef and so I go by... Chef Chew 01:54 and so... believe it or not... when I was three weeks old 01:57 the Lord allowed me to get adopted into a wonderful family 02:00 and so, I was actually adopted into a family 02:02 that had this last name Chew... and I'm African American family 02:06 and it's just been a blessing... they actually led me to the Lord 02:10 you know, through my family, my uncles and my aunts 02:12 and it's just been a... kind of... 02:13 the name has kind of given me my destiny, 02:16 it's kind of amazing... and being adopted... 02:18 Isn't that interesting how your name... 02:21 your name is tied in with what you do... 02:25 Exactly... exactly... That is tremendous 02:28 and so when did you decide that you wanted to go into... 02:32 being a chef... how did that happen? 02:34 Well, it kind of started... you know... 02:37 I believe that my father... he actually really loved to cook 02:41 he would always do barbecue grills and, you know, 02:43 just do all kinds of this interesting cuisines at home... 02:47 and so... growing up... I just got a lot from my family 02:50 you know, from cooking... my aunts and my uncles 02:52 would always have cookouts... and Thanksgivings would be this 02:55 I mean, everything that you can imagine, 02:57 but when I got to my early 20s I learned about healthy cooking 03:01 learned about eating a vegetarian lifestyle... 03:04 and I just kind of had an intriguing desire... 03:06 to want to use this food as a way to minister to people. 03:09 So, you started in your 20s, you loved watching your dad cook 03:14 and I think... people need to know that men cook... 03:18 there's nothing intrinsically "female" about cooking 03:23 Yeah, yeah, definitely... Right... 03:25 Yeah... So, you watched your dad cook 03:28 and from him, you kind of got a love for the kitchen... 03:34 Is that it? Exactly... I mean, 03:36 from watching him in the kitchen being creative 03:38 I mean, he made stuff that was just creative... 03:40 I mean, the stuff you would never think about... 03:42 when I was a young boy, we had an ice storm... 03:45 believe it or not... and all of our electricity went out 03:48 and so, we had a woodstove growing up... 03:50 and so, my father actually made a Lasagna dish 03:53 on the woodstove... and he was just so excited 03:56 I mean, to see this was creative and using just whatever 04:00 he had... to just kind of make things really tasty 04:03 so it was pretty cool... That is so neat, that is so neat 04:06 so, parents that are watching, I mean, dads, 04:10 take your kids in the kitchen and do some fun things... 04:13 Exactly... Right... 04:14 Exactly... exactly... Do you do that with your kids? 04:18 Well, my son is only 9- months-old right now, so 04:21 and hopefully soon, I will be able to take him 04:24 in the kitchen... but, you know, that's a prayer coming as he 04:27 gets older... definitely... Yes, that would be kind of 04:30 hard to do... right... taking your 9-month-old 04:33 to the kitchen right now, Yeah... 04:34 But... so that would be so, so good 04:38 and just kind of carry on the "Chew Tradition" 04:40 Exactly... give him something to chew on... 04:42 Give him something to chew on... 04:46 well you have been here to Dare to Dream 04:49 and you've been on the Taste of Paradise 04:52 with Nyse Collins and we had a chance to taste 04:56 some of that delicious food, it is so great... 04:59 what made you decide that you wanted to do the 05:03 vegan cooking versus just general cooking? 05:07 Well, you know, as you look in the Scripture 05:10 you look in the book of Genesis and it talks about... 05:13 God gave us a diet of eating pretty much plant foods 05:16 from the very onset... meat wasn't allowed 05:18 until after the flood... and then through much research 05:22 we find that eating a plant-based diet 05:23 is pretty much an optimal diet 05:26 and so, I just kind of figured usually growing up... 05:29 I used to eat vegetarian food but it wasn't always 05:32 the greatest... and I just had a desire to say, 05:35 "Can we make healthy food that actually tastes good... " 05:38 and so that was kind of like a challenge for me... 05:41 to figure out how to make things that we love 05:44 pizzas and wraps and stir fries... 05:46 and even mock chicken and stuff like that 05:49 to make it taste actually good, so people will say, 05:52 "Man, I can't believe this isn't actually chicken... " 05:54 so, I have a little statement that says, 05:56 "Looks like chicken, tastes like chicken, 05:58 but, guess what, it's not chicken... 06:00 crispy on the outside and white in the middle 06:03 oh, it's delicious... " and so, I make it fun, 06:05 that's one of the things... you got to make it fun 06:08 and people will eat something if it looks like it 06:11 and it tastes like it and it's actually good 06:13 but it's healthy... they'll go for it... every single time... 06:15 Absolutely, one of the things that I know to be true 06:19 is that... when you're working with people 06:21 and let's say they've been traditionally 06:24 making really bad choices 06:26 food choices and lifestyle choices and stuff, 06:29 you can't take away... their favorite foods 06:32 and not give them something better 06:34 exactly... that's the critical thing... I mean, 06:37 most of the clients that we work with 06:39 here in Fayetteville, Arkansas most of them again... 06:41 I live in the city... I live about 10 miles away 06:44 from the Tyson Food Headquarters so, I'm in a place where 06:48 there are a lot of chicken farms and a lot of cow breeding 06:51 and... so people love their meat and potatoes 06:53 and so when you talk about giving somebody 06:56 something that's plant-based, you know, 06:58 not any meat nor dairy it has to be 07:01 something that actually tastes good 07:02 something they're going to be attracted to eat... 07:05 so, yes, you have to be progressive... 07:07 you can't take everything away at once but it should be 07:10 definitely something that gets them excited 07:13 and you kind of want to intrigue that interest 07:15 and that's the most important thing... 07:16 get them excited about it... Yes, yes... 07:18 so tell us how you're doing that... 07:20 first of all, tell us about your food ministry 07:24 because you're a pastor 07:25 and we're going to talk about that 07:26 you also have this restaurant and all... 07:30 so tell us about that 07:31 Yeah, definitely, the Lord allowed me... some years back 07:35 back in 2008, I had a desire to start a restaurant... 07:38 and we actually started with a group of young men 07:42 it was pretty awesome... it was young men... 07:44 and we actually... pretty much turned into Chefs 07:47 we had a ministry where we trained young men 07:50 taught them vocational skills and one of the skills 07:52 that we taught them was how to cook... 07:53 and so, we just had a dream, we kept talking about it 07:56 and so we opened up a little restaurant in the city 07:59 in Prince Frederick, Maryland... it's about 30 minutes 08:02 south of Washington, D.C. and so, about 2008 08:05 we started cooking healthy food 08:06 and we started a little restaurant... 08:08 called "Eating to Live" at that time frame... 08:10 and at that time, I was learning 08:12 the restaurant business and we started on 08:15 just learning different recipes, and as we realized 08:18 as we were feeding our customers we started realizing 08:21 that people get excited... when you meet their physical needs 08:24 because they start seeing the connection of, 08:26 "Hey, you're meeting my physical needs... " 08:27 and one thing that we did as Christians 08:29 we always would want to lead them to this source... 08:31 that gives power and that gives help... 08:33 so, in the restaurant setting 08:35 we were always able to say, "Hey, we do this because 08:38 we're Christians... we're trying to lead people to Jesus 08:40 we're trying to let them know that God's plan of health 08:42 is the best plan of health... and so, back then, 08:46 again about 5 or 6 years ago, I started in the 08:48 Health Food Restaurant Ministry at that time frame... 08:51 and so, till today, I'm still doing it 08:54 and it's alive and working... 08:57 That is great, you know, you said something that 09:00 is so true... like you get people excited... 09:03 about their... when you meet their 09:05 physical needs and it's with food... 09:08 there's something about just breaking bread 09:11 having some good food being able to sit 09:14 and talk and eat... and eat your favorite foods... 09:18 but in a form... that's healthy for you... 09:21 Exactly, exactly... ... so, like I know 09:24 like on the Taste of Paradise, you came on and you did 09:27 like a healthy form of... I don't remember which recipe 09:32 you did... oh, the beef-style meat which was delicious 09:36 We did some meat balls and chicken 09:38 and I think we did some sausage patties 09:39 and different things like that... 09:41 Yes, I mean... and you had us all... we were salivating... 09:45 I love doing the Taste of Paradise 09:48 because we get to eat all the food that's left there 09:51 when everybody presents it... right... so... 09:54 that was so, so, good... so your saying that 09:57 when you are at this restaurant 10:00 when you were starting your ministry... 10:03 you realized... early on... 10:06 that just giving people really good food is 10:10 kind of the place to start. Exactly, because, you know, 10:13 we think about sharing Christ Christ's ministry was... 10:16 what did He do? He went about teaching, 10:18 He went about preaching, but He also went about healing, 10:21 and so, you know, today, most diseases are 10:24 are as a result of our diet... our lifestyle 10:26 so when you can actually help somebody to eat better 10:30 and they start losing some pounds 10:32 their cholesterol begins to drop 10:34 their blood pressure begins to drop 10:35 you have now met their need 10:37 and by doing that, the confidence has been won 10:39 and now, they become your friend... I mean, 10:42 it's not like, "Hey customers" 10:44 it's like, "Hey Judy, hey Jim, hey Tom," you know, 10:46 it's more like they become my friends now... and then, 10:50 we can... they may come to my house and have dinner, I mean 10:53 it really becomes some real serious relationships 10:55 as a result of meeting people's needs... 10:57 and that's what I've been seeing that's very consistent 10:59 with this kind of ministry... Praise the Lord... 11:01 that is so, so, interesting and so important 11:04 I was reading a book... last night... in fact... 11:07 about hypertension and clearing the arteries 11:11 and it was saying... if you make better nutritional choices, 11:15 cut back on the salt, drop 10 pounds, 11:19 you know... 11:20 and these are you can actually impact 11:25 your blood pressure... now, I'm not telling anybody 11:28 to stop taking their meds or I'm not saying that, 11:31 but I'm saying that... there are ways to deal with it 11:34 naturally and of course you do it with your physician 11:37 but there are ways to impact your blood pressure 11:41 and all these chronic diseases that you mentioned 11:45 have a lifestyle component. Exactly, exactly... 11:49 So if you change the way you're eating... 11:51 you change your rest habits you reduce your stress 11:57 you drop some pounds, as you're eating better 12:00 this is a great way to minister it really is Pastor Chew 12:05 I can see how it could be really effective 12:08 because you are making a difference 12:10 people are like, "Whoa, wait, my blood pressure 12:12 is better... my cholesterol is better... 12:14 and all I've done... is change the way I'm eating 12:18 and I like what I'm eating, That's it... that's it... 12:22 Right? I did a project one time 12:24 where we actually on African American Community 12:27 with two doctors, 12:28 Dr. Samuel Deshay, outside of Washington, D.C. 12:32 Oh yeah... pretty awesome fellow, 12:33 he's a great guy, great guy, he's in his 70s 12:35 but he has a book that they wrote called, 12:37 "Fifteen Days to Reduce High Blood Pressure 12:39 and Cholesterol" and what happened 12:41 they had me come on and work with them on this project 12:44 where we actually made all the meals 12:46 for all these individuals... we had about 60 people 12:49 that went on a completely plant-based diet 12:52 it was for 15 days... literally within 15 days 12:54 the average cholesterol dropping was about 12:57 15 to 25 points... we also saw that 13:01 within those people the average weight loss 13:03 was about 7 pounds... and so... 13:06 and that was just in 15 days... we did the blood work before 13:09 and the blood work afterwards and we were able to have 13:11 quantitative and qualitative results... 13:13 to show that this is actually legit... 13:15 and so I've seen with my own eyes... in just 15 days 13:18 what kind of results you can get by eating healthy... 13:20 and it really works... That is so great... 13:23 in my mind I'm thinking, I need to have you come here 13:26 and help... I don't have... praise the Lord 13:29 I don't have hypertension and all that stuff 13:31 and I'm thankful for all of that, 13:33 but when you want to do some things differently, 13:37 it's good to get some other input so I'm thinking to myself 13:40 "Hmmm... I need to have Pr. Chew's whole system here. " 13:44 There you go... there you go... But I love that idea 13:47 that people came away from what they do 13:51 what people don't realize Pr. Chew and I'm sure you 13:54 agree with this is that, 13:56 whatever it is... you're doing is what got you into 14:01 that health state in the first place... 14:03 Exactly... exactly... So you have to change 14:05 what you're doing... to get a different outcome... 14:08 That's it... and that's the science 14:10 it's pretty much how, and the thing is... 14:12 you have to inspire change... because you know 14:14 as people... we are ruts.. I mean... I should say 14:17 not really ruts but we live in a "rut mentality" 14:20 we eat this type of food, 14:22 we eat it almost 4 or 5 times a week 14:24 you know, and it was good... it was good... 14:26 it was easy... it was convenient... it's very easy 14:29 to go out to the fast food restaurant and get a burger 14:32 or get some French fries or some of these things... 14:35 but, you know, it takes a new desire to want to change 14:38 to eat more fruit, to eat more vegetables 14:40 and eat some more grains and things like that... 14:42 and so... it takes a desire and I believe 14:45 that it can only be inspired by the Holy Spirit 14:47 we have to pray... for change... 14:49 and I think the Lord is willing to work with us... 14:51 He says, "Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest 14:54 prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. " 14:57 so, I believe this much... if we believe in the Lord 15:00 He can give us the strength and the help to change as well, 15:02 and that's the key... I believe. You know, in whole... 15:05 you are just really speaking the truth... 15:08 because I know when I used to practice 15:10 alternative medicine in Dallas, and I'd get people 15:13 that would come to me to find out how to get healthier 15:16 and I would put them on a healthier diet... 15:19 the resistance to change is so strong... 15:23 we have cultural things that... ways that we eat... 15:28 that has gotten us into this sickness in the first place, 15:30 and African Americans are the forerunners of disease 15:33 in this country... Yes... yes... 15:34 so... chronic disease... so we got to do something 15:37 different in order to be well. That's it... that's it... 15:40 what you are doing... is just tremendous... 15:43 so now, okay, so that's how you started... 15:45 now, what are you doing now, where are you now? 15:48 Right now, I'm actually... I am living in 15:50 Fayetteville, Arkansas, we have a church here 15:52 in Arkansas... right now actually 15:54 I'm not running a restaurant currently... 15:56 but we're running a... we have a factory... 15:58 a food factory believe it or not we have, pretty much, a factory 16:02 where we produce delicious food products... 16:04 we make... we have a product called 16:07 "Better than Meat" it looks like meat, 16:09 tastes like meat but is not meat... 16:10 and so we have different types that we actually produce 16:14 everything from mock chicken wings to meat balls to 16:17 we have something called "Fryless chicken" 16:20 we have a steak... you know... and so these products 16:23 have become a favorite of many in our community... 16:26 and I'm refining that again... our product... we always say... 16:29 it kind of has a texture and a taste and feel like real meat... 16:32 so it makes people who love to eat meat 16:35 it gives them a good transition to want to change... 16:38 and that's what we're finding... so we're producing 16:40 these healthy food products right now 16:42 we actually also are running a program called... 16:45 "Chew for Change" which is actually a community 16:48 initiative where we do a 60-day meal challenge 16:51 in the community... Okay... tell us about that... 16:54 Yeah... yeah... yeah... right now I have one gentleman 16:57 an African American young man, 29-years-old... 16:59 he is literally above 400 pounds and he just lost his father 17:04 pretty much to diabetes 17:07 and other health conditions 17:08 and so forth... but he is at a point in his life... 17:10 we had a talk with him, I think, two weeks ago... 17:13 he's at a point right now where he says, 17:15 "I want to make a real change" and so, we have people like him 17:18 who is going on the 60-day challenge hunt 17:20 we're feeding him all the meals for 60 days... 17:23 while they're on this program we're going to be 17:25 actually teaching them how to cook healthy... 17:27 so we're going to be doing cooking classes with them, 17:29 we're going to be giving them personal coaching... 17:31 and just encouraging them to go for walks 17:33 and do basic exercise... and the concept is that... 17:36 in 60 days... they're going to drop 600 points... 17:39 and the points is where... when they lose a pound 17:42 they get a point... when their cholesterol goes down 17:44 they get a point... when they walk a mile... 17:46 they get a point... when they drink water 17:48 they get a point... so, the goal is that as they 17:51 actually are living this lifestyle... 17:53 they are going to actually pick up habits 17:55 that can be for a lifetime... 17:56 and so it's really a complete program... 17:58 and the last thing I'll says is 18:00 it's really amazing because were able to get on 18:02 the Fox News Network... in our Community... 18:04 and I was able to get it into papers and articles 18:07 and newspaper and so, the Community is 18:10 embracing the project and I'm hoping that 18:12 it's going to be a really great witness, you know, 18:15 for those in our Community, showing them that we can 18:17 chew for change... That's... Oh man! that's so 18:20 exciting... that is so exciting because what you're saying is 18:25 you're giving people the tools that they need 18:28 to get well and to stay well... Exactly... 18:32 ...to stay well... you got it... you got it... exactly... 18:35 and they feel good about themselves because really... 18:38 when you're carrying all that weight... 18:40 you know, they had... I've seen it over and over again 18:43 you've seen people who put on those really fat suits... 18:47 and they put clothes over them 18:48 and they go out into the Community... 18:50 and it shows how people treat you... 18:52 when you're obese versus when you're not... 18:55 and invariably... everybody I've seen that has put on 19:01 that fat suit has ended up crying about how 19:04 they were treated... Exactly... 19:06 so, not only do you feel bad... but you feel badly about 19:10 the way you look and so... you just interact 19:13 that way... Exactly... 19:15 So, you're saying that you're giving people 19:18 with this 60-day challenge... the tools that they need 19:22 you're cooking for them, you're teaching them 19:24 how to keep this up themselves. Exactly... exactly... 19:28 That is so amazing... ... it's amazing because 19:30 the great thing about it is... we can really have 19:33 tangible impact on people's lives... 19:35 you know, it's not like I'm just saying... 19:37 you know, I do a lot of classes around the Country 19:39 we can go into a place and say, "You should just eat healthy. " 19:42 But when I go in there and say, 19:43 "Listen, I'm not only going to say to you... to eat health, 19:47 but I'm going to teach you how to make a change" 19:49 and I think that's the personal... 19:51 the personal contact that our Savior, Christ, 19:54 you know... He had personal contact 19:56 with people... and He had tangible results 19:58 because He worked with them... 20:00 and so this motto is really... is designed to have it 20:02 so we can have tangible impact on people's lives... 20:05 and so, it's really special... really special... 20:07 That is so great... so now, how can somebody like me 20:11 who is not in your Community... 20:12 take part in this 60-day challenge 20:15 let's say... a viewer who is watching this program right now 20:18 wants to change their lives... what can they do? 20:23 Well, you know, we always say that sometimes... 20:27 especially if you don't have all the resources... 20:30 in the sense that... you don't have all the education 20:32 we always like to say, "Take baby steps" 20:34 you know, you can start out... we always like to advocate 20:37 the meatless Monday concept or you take more than 2 days 20:39 out of the week... you say, "I'm going to go for a walk, 20:42 and I'm going to eat a plant-based meal this day. " 20:45 and so, I always say, "Take small steps... 20:48 and those small steps will become bigger steps, 20:51 and those bigger steps can then become a lifestyle... " 20:53 and so, we always say, 20:54 "A lot of times if you don't have all of the help 20:57 in your area, the key is... that you start out 20:59 with what you can... " if you do have that help 21:02 and you can find some people that can maybe help you 21:04 with eating healthy... go ahead and get them 21:06 to help you to maybe transitioning your lifestyle... 21:08 but the key is this... pray for a desire, number one, 21:11 and then as you pray for that desire, 21:13 God will then become your teacher... 21:15 He will teach us how to cook healthy... He says... 21:17 He wants us to prosper and be in health... 21:20 and so... if we pray... God is able to do 21:23 the impossible and so... 21:24 if you love to eat things that are fried... 21:26 and things that have a lot of fat... 21:28 God can help us to love to eat things that are 21:30 made with olive oil and sautéed rather than 21:32 having all of that cholesterol and all of that extra 21:34 added saturated fat... so it can be done in a way 21:37 that's healthy... but we have to pray 21:39 and ask the Holy Spirit to inspire us... 21:40 and I believe that God will answer that prayer every time... 21:43 Amen... yes He will... He will, "If any man wills to do His will 21:48 He will know of the teaching" right? 21:50 Amen... If you want to make it 21:52 to be different... if you want things to change 21:55 and you seek God first and ask Him, 21:57 "Lord, please... just help me to change... " 21:59 He will hear 22:01 and honor that prayer... 22:02 Most definitely... most definitely... 22:04 So, how did you get into Ministry... Pastor Chew... 22:07 how did you...? It was kind of interesting 22:10 my story kind of started believe it or not 22:13 I kind of like to go back and say... 22:15 kind of my history... I started about 12 years ago 22:17 as a young man... about 18 years old... 22:19 and I had a Track Scholarship to Howard University 22:22 and I ended up... believe it or not... 22:25 I ended up breaking my leg in the track race... 22:27 and it just turned my whole life around 22:29 and the Lord called me... to stand for Him... 22:32 and I mean... 22:33 I had some decisions to make at that time... 22:35 but I gave my heart to Christ 22:36 at that time... became baptized... 22:38 about a year-and-a-half later after that... 22:41 I ended up becoming... doing Colporteuring 22:43 and starting my own Bible work with a Ministry in Maryland... 22:47 while I was doing that... believe it or not... 22:49 we became very entrepreneurial and we actually began 22:51 to make granola... and began... learning how to bake bread... 22:54 and so, as I was canvassing and knocking on doors 22:57 selling books and giving Bible studies... 22:59 we were asking the customers 23:01 I mean... the people that we were working with 23:02 saying, "Hey, we have some great, delicious granola" 23:05 we said, we had "crunchy, brunchy granola... 23:06 we don't box... but we have a granola that will knock you out" 23:10 and so... we would actually, 23:11 you know, people that we would meet in the Community 23:14 we would actually sell them our bread and our granola, 23:16 and so, I began... at that point 23:19 kind of... doing Health Ministry 23:21 along with again doing Bible Work 23:23 teaching people the Word of God and I mean, all along the way, 23:26 I was kind of learning about Ministry and also Health 23:29 to make the long story short kind of fast forward... 23:32 I ended up moving to Arkansas, about 3 years ago, 23:35 and my wife was actually, 23:36 even though we were not married at that time... 23:38 but we ended up getting married... 23:40 about a month before I got married... 23:42 I got a call... to become a Pastor of the Church 23:45 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and they asked me 23:48 to come on and consult with Louisiana Conference 23:50 they called me... to become a Pastor... 23:52 and I've been pastoring for the last... almost 3 years now 23:55 and so... it was kind of a unique circumstance 23:59 but the Lord had His eye on it all along the way... 24:01 Look at how God just does... what He does... 24:06 now, you had this scholarship to Howard University... 24:10 for Track... but you ended up breaking your leg... 24:14 and so... God had this other path for you... all along... 24:18 this divine plan... right? Yeah, exactly... exactly... 24:22 so, you're thinking that your life 24:23 is just never going to be the same... 24:25 and it's just a mess now... 24:26 because I can't do the scholarship 24:28 and then God had you going into Colporteuring... 24:31 Colporteuring and building you up in the Faith... 24:34 Exactly... exactly... Now, at what point did 24:37 you meet your wife... before you moved to Arkansas, or 24:40 Believe it or not... we met, actually, 24:42 when we were about 20-years-old... 1920?.. 24:44 and we actually colporteured together... believe it or not... 24:48 and that was some 10 to 11 ago and so she and I became friends 24:52 we didn't have any interest at that time 24:54 but about 3 or 4 years ago... the Lord... 24:57 you know how the birds and bees 24:58 they just start working... and... you know... 25:00 you get a little excited and as a man... the Bible says, 25:03 "When he finds a good wife... he finds a good thing" 25:06 and so, I kind of had that desire with her 25:08 and the Lord led... and she's a really awesome partner... 25:12 I mean... in ministry with me... Yes, and I'm so excited because 25:15 you and your lovely wife, Tina, are going to do a program 25:18 for Dare to Dream for us... 25:20 Exactly... exactly... we're really excited... 25:23 so, we have to bring her on next time... 25:25 she couldn't be with us this time... 25:26 as she's out of town... but we're going to have to 25:28 bring her on next time to talk about 25:30 how you guys met... because she'll give us 25:32 the 411... she'll give us the girl's point, 25:35 There you go... exactly... ... on how you guys met 25:39 so, now, where do you see your Ministry going... 25:43 are you looking to establish restaurants 25:47 or you looking to do trainings... 25:49 where... where are you going with it? 25:51 You know, our motto is, to really work on that facet 25:54 but we do have a focus, our dream, I would say, 25:57 is to have a Production Factory that can actually be 26:02 as a source of employment 26:03 to those living in the inner cities 26:05 we find that... one of the greatest things 26:08 that we find is... especially in African American Communities 26:10 are no jobs... you know... there's not opportunity 26:13 for... especially... young African Americans 26:15 sometimes to have opportunities for employment 26:17 careers... and so... one of our dreams is actually 26:20 to set up a factory with our food products 26:23 our food products have been approved to sell in some 26:25 retail outlets like Whole foods Market 26:27 and other stores... so the Lord is really opening 26:29 great opportunities... and then secondly, 26:31 on top of that... our goal is to actually 26:33 with our factories to set up almost like a small 26:36 restaurant franchise... is our other secondary goal... 26:39 you know, with our food products and so... we hope 26:42 that we can have little small restaurants 26:44 all around the Country this is a long-term goal 26:46 but this is a dream... and that's what we're hoping 26:49 to see accomplished here in the next 10 to 15 years 26:52 is that God would open up a factory 26:53 and build small restaurants that we can actually 26:55 set up... and that can help people and change lives... 26:59 and that's our prayer... That sounds so tremendous, 27:02 what a blessing that would be. Yeah... yeah... 27:05 Thank you so much for being with us... 27:08 Do you have a parting thought 27:09 that you would like to give the viewers? 27:11 Well, definitely I would say that God is the One that 27:16 created us... you know the Bible says 27:17 that we were formed in His image... 27:19 and He formed us with His hands... 27:21 and the Bible says, "He breathed in man 27:23 the breath of life... " and I would always like to say, 27:25 when it comes to health, we were made from dust 27:27 we were made... from the breath of God 27:29 so that breath... that breath is what gives us... 27:32 it inspires us... to do what He wants us to do 27:35 He's the One that gives us the power, 27:37 the desire... the desire to change... 27:39 as long as, I would say, 27:41 that if you're struggling with health 27:43 you may have some illnesses, you may not see how 27:45 you can change those things... 27:47 just say a simple prayer... and watch God 27:50 bring the people in your path 27:51 to place information in your path 27:53 you know, and I know that God is able to do that 27:56 to do abundantly, exceedingly above what we can actually think 27:59 Thank you so much Pastor Chew, and thank you for tuning in... 28:02 Tune in next time... it just wouldn't be the same... 28:04 without you... |
