00:03 Well, stay tuned to meet some folks 00:05 who witness God's miraculous power on a regular basis. 00:08 My name is Yvonne Lewis 00:10 and you're watching Urban Report. 00:34 Hello and welcome to Urban Report. 00:37 My guests today are Patrick Baker 00:39 and several of the members of his 00:41 Button to Christ Ministries Team. 00:43 I had a chance to talk to them when they came here to be on 00:46 the Dare to Dream Program, The New Journey. 00:49 Let's see what they had to say. 00:50 I feel so blessed to be sitting on the Set of The New Journey 00:58 even though Aaron Chancy isn't here 01:00 and he's the normal host for this program, 01:02 we're doing Urban Report 01:04 so we're doing it here on the Set of The New Journey 01:07 with a ministry that Aaron introduced me to. 01:10 It's called: Button to Christ Ministries, 01:13 I almost said, "Buttons" but it's "Button" singular... 01:15 to Christ Ministries... 01:17 and they're here with us from Canada... 01:20 all the way from Canada and we are so blessed to have you 01:23 so let's find out who you are and then we'll get into 01:26 more about the ministry so we'll start with you. 01:29 Hi, my name is Shanice Whitely 01:31 and I have been with the ministry 01:33 for over four years now. 01:35 Great, thank you Shanice. 01:36 Okay, my name is Patrick Baker 01:39 and I'm the Founder of the ministry 01:42 and I'm just happy to be here. 01:44 Yeah, we're glad to have you. Patrick: Praise God. 01:46 Hi, my name is Shea Manhertz and I've been in the ministry 01:49 for about four years as well, so, yes, it's been great. 01:51 Yvonne: Great. 01:53 My name is Andrew Wilson and I've been a part of the team 01:57 for just under two years now. 01:59 Are you the baby on the team? 02:01 Andrew: Ah... somewhat, I think. 02:03 Yvonne: Okay... 02:05 My name is Jay Beckles, I'm a part of the ministry now 02:09 for just two years and two months I think. 02:12 Okay, so who is newer on the team? 02:14 Andrew: I am... 02:15 Okay, all right, he's still the baby, okay. 02:16 I'm Melanie Mullings and I've been with this ministry 02:20 for about four years, I would say, yeah. 02:22 My name is Claudetta Mitchell and I've been with the ministry 02:26 for just... little over a year, I think I'm the baby. 02:29 You're the baby... Claudetta is the baby, okay. 02:32 It's great to have you here. 02:35 I'm just... I'm so thankful that God has brought you here. 02:38 Tell us, Patrick, about the ministry, 02:41 What is Button to Christ Ministries? 02:43 Okay, Button to Christ Ministry is a family-help network 02:48 and when I say "Network" we network together 02:51 to help people, so we actually go into the home 02:56 and get our hands dirty, so as to speak because 03:00 we're seeing a lot of different issues and we address them 03:03 we don't just leave it until tomorrow. 03:05 We reach out, we get the team 03:08 and we have a huge... other team members 03:11 that is not here with us and people go into the home 03:14 for example, we visit one family and the place was really a mess, 03:19 they had no food and we have volunteers like Shanice 03:22 and others who actually go into the home, 03:25 clean the home up and we brought food to them 03:28 so it's a practical ministry as the name says, 03:32 "Button... " close to Christ... relationship. 03:35 I love it, I love it, 03:36 so how many people are on the team totally? 03:40 Okay, you see... there's a different segment 03:43 for example, we have, probably around 80 or 90 people 03:47 that come on to the Prayer Line on a regular basis 03:50 that are willing and available to help 03:53 but for going into homes... we have, probably around 03:56 say... ten or twelve people 03:58 but the real issues like helping to "loose" people 04:03 of demon possession... we only have like... four people 04:07 because, you see, it's a specialized ministry 04:10 and it's not everyone... can tolerate levitation 04:13 and all these high-level spiritual things 04:16 so it's a specialized ministry. 04:18 So, you have... then... and correct me if I'm wrong, 04:22 you have different segments of the ministry, 04:24 you have a Deliverance Ministry, a deliverance team... 04:27 that goes in... maybe four or five of you... 04:30 then you have... also... the team that goes into the home 04:33 which might be ten or twelve of you 04:35 and they go in and clean and prepare food and all that 04:39 and so what you're doing... and I love this... 04:42 this is what Christ did... what He did... 04:46 He... it was practical, 04:48 it was meeting people where they were 04:51 and that's what... 04:52 that's what your ministry is doing. 04:54 Meeting people at their point of need 04:56 and what a beautiful thing that is 04:58 so, how did you... what brought you to do this? 05:02 What made you decide to do this ministry? 05:04 You know what? A lot of people ask the question 05:07 and say, "Were you demon possessed?" 05:09 The reason why... because... Yvonne: I know it's not funny 05:12 but, I mean, I can't imagine somebody 05:14 asking you if you were demon possessed. 05:16 Yes, because they're figuring then... 05:18 if you're going into homes delivering people, 05:20 you must have probably been in that predicament 05:22 but actually, we were at our church, 05:24 in AY... me and a good friend of mine... 05:27 and we were looking around and saying, 05:29 "We want to be different, 05:31 we want to tap into the power source, 05:33 let us look around and see if there is one person 05:36 in this church... Adventist church 05:38 that if they need the deliverance from whatever, 05:41 depression, struggles of life, can we get help now?" 05:46 We could not find anybody so, therefore, we said, 05:49 "Why don't we be those people?" 05:51 So we started to go to the church 05:53 and pray without ceasing... 05:55 and don't ask if we started seeing miracles... 05:58 miracles upon miracles, like the Lord had said. 06:01 I have to share this one... Yvonne: Yes please. 06:04 Listen, we went one day to the Park 06:07 and we were having lunch... about eight of us 06:10 and while we were praying in the public Park, 06:13 somebody was squeezing my hands so, I opened my eyes 06:17 when I opened my eyes, a bird was sitting in the center 06:21 going in the circle, a big enough bird, 06:23 and I was just talking to God and saying, 06:25 "How is that possible?" 06:26 Because if the bird is going there, 06:29 we would have heard the wings or something 06:31 and I said to God, "God, if this is a sign, 06:34 allow the bird to come and perch on me" 06:36 immediately, as we said, "Amen" and there are kids screaming... 06:40 the bird flew and perched right here 06:42 and people were backing off and taking pictures and saying, 06:46 "Well, probably, something is wrong with the bird" 06:49 as if the bird heard, he flew down on the table 06:52 and surged up into the hills, 06:54 there are hundreds of testimonies 06:57 of God showing us that... we got to be different, 07:00 we have to move forward with a ministry like this 07:03 that needs to reach the needs of people 07:06 and that's what we have been doing. 07:08 That is incredible, so you guys were in the park 07:11 and this bird... you know what I thought about 07:14 when you were saying that, how at Jesus' baptism 07:17 the Holy Spirit came in the form of a dove, 07:21 and so, God manifests Himself in different ways 07:24 or uses His creation to show His approval 07:28 or whatever, so... that's so interesting 07:31 that bird... was letting you know 07:34 that this is the path that God wants you to be on 07:37 He was confirming your mission. 07:39 Patrick: Yes, yes, yes. 07:40 That is tremendous so as you have... 07:44 this was like... how long ago that you started this? 07:48 This is... goes back to 13 years and what happened... 07:51 as the Lord increased and we started praying more 07:55 we started to see miracles, 07:57 we'll be at the altar... praying... 07:59 and the altar will start to shake... physically... 08:02 and the Lord will say, "You are on holy grounds, 08:06 take your shoes off," 08:07 Yvonne: Come on, brother... 08:09 And people will start to come with crisis, 08:11 there are sometimes... people that are demon possessed 08:14 come right there where we start to have prayer 08:17 and other people will run out of the Sanctuary 08:20 because they've never experienced "manifestation," 08:22 so, God started to work with us and that's how we discovered 08:27 that the power of God is teaching us 08:30 how to reach brokenness, like, people who are demon possessed 08:34 within their families and that's how the ministry started 08:37 going to "Deliverance Ministry" and then people will... 08:40 mothers will call us and say, 08:42 "Could you visit the jail, my son is in jail?" 08:44 And we will go and seek deliverance 08:46 like, one day I was doing a program at a church 08:49 and a mother came to me after and says, 08:52 "My son is home, he cannot walk, 08:55 he just got married and he can't go to work, 08:57 he can't drive, he has to be lying down, 09:00 could you help?" 09:01 I said, "Okay. " The Sunday, I went to visit 09:04 and I think Shanice was with me 09:06 and while we were there visiting, 09:08 we started to pray for him, he was lying down, 09:11 he can't sit, can't walk, 09:12 he's only 28... we started to pray. 09:16 This was a new development, this wasn't something that... 09:18 he hadn't... he had been born walking... 09:21 but he recently could not walk? 09:22 You got it, he was working in a nice job for the Government 09:26 and he just got married to a young wife, everything, 09:29 then, all of a sudden, he can't walk, 09:32 he'd been to the doctor, 09:33 checked out everything physically 09:35 and nothing was happening, 09:36 so while we were praying... because we are people 09:39 that when we pray, God speaks and we listen, 09:43 just as the Bible days, so now we prayed 09:46 and the Lord says, "A curse stings... " 09:49 so we prayed again, 09:50 and the Lord says, "Their wedding band" 09:52 so I noticed that his wife wasn't wearing her wedding band 09:55 and so I said, "Where is it?" 09:56 and she said, "I just don't feel to wear it" 09:58 but he was wearing his, so I asked him, 10:01 "Where did you get the gold to make the ring?" 10:04 He said, "My mother found it back in our Country 10:06 and brought the gold. " 10:08 I said, "Mercy... " so we prayed 10:10 and the Lord says, "The gold was a curse. " 10:13 They took the gold, they were living in a Condo 10:15 and they dropped both, 10:17 diamond, expensive rings down in the garbage, 10:20 within one week, turnaround, 10:24 within two weeks, he was playing soccer, 10:27 it's one of the greatest miracles, 10:30 he has been on many of the shows that I ran 10:33 and it's incredible to see what God has been doing. 10:37 You know, as you're talking, I'm thinking, 10:39 "Look at God... look at... " 10:41 one of the things that people don't realize 10:44 is that... that objects invite spirits 10:49 and so you can bring into your home... 10:52 you invite... you give the spirits permission 10:56 to be in your home when you bring in certain objects. 11:01 It gives them permission to be there 11:03 and so, any of you, who have anything like 11:07 tarot cards or Ouija boards or astrology in any way 11:12 or anything like that, 11:14 you are inviting demonic presence into your home 11:19 and so, what you're saying, 11:21 is, this guy had given them license to be there. 11:26 Are any of the others of you 11:28 on the Deliverance Team? Shanice: Yes. 11:31 Are you Shanice, okay, tell us a little bit about 11:34 your experience on the Deliverance Team, 11:36 what have you found, what miracle have you seen, 11:39 I know you've seen a bunch of them, 11:41 pick one and tell us one that God has just brought... 11:45 brought His presence into that room with what you were doing. 11:49 Okay, like you said, there are many but... 11:52 there is one that I can recall 11:55 where we were in a specific home, 11:59 and this lady... she was under high demonic influences 12:04 and when we... while she was in the form... 12:09 under the... manifestation... so to speak... 12:12 and then... we started to read Matthew 12:14 and there was a Scripture in Matthew that said, 12:17 "... and the devil bowed his knees and worshipped Jesus" 12:21 right... somewhere there... 12:23 and immediately, when that specific Scripture was read, 12:26 the demon within the woman fell down on her knee 12:31 so it goes to show that, even the devil... 12:33 the Bible says, "every knee shall bow 12:35 and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord" 12:38 so, for me that was powerful because 12:41 the demon within her was very aggressive and very negative 12:47 but at the sound of the Word, the devil had no power 12:51 had no authority... 12:53 Yvonne: come on, you're giving me chills now. 12:54 I'm getting chills from this today. 12:56 Shanice: He had nothing... he had no other choice 12:58 but to bow to the most High God, and that was really, like... 13:02 the demon just threw the woman off the table 13:05 not on the face but on the knee, to show reverence 13:08 to say "Listen, I am God, I am the Creator" 13:10 He's the God who made the heaven and the earth 13:12 so yes, the devil is here causing trouble 13:15 but when the devil hears the Word of God, 13:18 he has to bow. 13:19 Yes, so he is subject to the authority of God 13:23 because God is sovereign, I mean, that's the thing, 13:26 I think if more people understood who God was, 13:31 who God is, and how there is no power that compares this, 13:35 Satan wants people to think that the power that he gives 13:38 is the greatest power and so, you know, 13:42 he deceives people and all that 13:43 but he is subject to the authority and power of God 13:47 and so, he's going to yeah... bow and confess 13:51 and the demons have to bow and confess. 13:54 What are some of the... the Prayer Line... 13:57 Melanie, you are on the Prayer Line, right? 13:59 Tell us about that... what is that about? 14:02 It's about connecting with other individuals 14:05 not only Seventh-day Adventists, but those who believe in God 14:08 or want to learn more about Him, we come together, 14:13 we worship, I will sing special music, 14:18 we give great testimonies of what God has done in our lives. 14:22 Is this a daily Prayer Line or is it weekly or monthly? 14:26 Well, we have it on Tuesday morning, 14:29 and Tuesday... in the evening as well 14:31 and then we have it on Friday mornings 14:33 early in the morning like... five... 14:35 and then in the evening as well. 14:37 So, anyone is welcome, we have the opportunity to 14:42 just testify of God's greatness 14:44 but also, He uses, Brother Patrick, His manservant, 14:47 to come with powerful words 14:50 from His Word and 14:52 at times when Brother Patrick gives a word 14:55 or even before... prior... sometimes he wouldn't even have 14:58 anything like... you know how some preachers or pastors 15:02 they'll have... like little... set up 15:03 or know what they're saying, 15:05 usually he just comes, he prays, he asks the Lord, "Use me" 15:09 and God uses him with such might and power. 15:12 Amen, praise the Lord. 15:13 Sister Claudette, what have you found 15:18 to be the most powerful aspect of this ministry? 15:23 Well, as I mentioned earlier, 15:27 the part that I play in this ministry 15:30 is... encouraging others, in such a fallen world, 15:36 in such a hopeless world, 15:38 the only way we can receive encouragement 15:41 is through the Word. 15:42 And I believe that it's through the Word 15:47 where people can find life because the Word is life 15:51 and I find it very impactful 15:55 when others can receive that encouragement, 15:58 and take that with them and know that they have this hope, 16:03 this hope which is in Jesus Christ. 16:06 So, I really look forward to encouraging people 16:12 on the prayer line as Melanie mentioned, 16:15 Tuesday mornings and Friday mornings 16:17 I come on the line and however the Spirit leads 16:21 is how I encourage others on the Prayer Line. 16:25 So I'm just happy and blessed 16:29 to know that I can reach out to others 16:32 and make an impact in their lives in that aspect. 16:35 Yes, that's wonderful and... now do you sing as well? 16:39 No, I don't sing... only in the shower... 16:41 Melanie and Shay are the singers here, is that it? 16:44 And also Brother Jay... Brother Jay sings as well. 16:46 Oh, Brother Jay... okay... all right... that's good. 16:49 Jay, tell us about your experience 16:51 with the Button Ministries, 16:54 Button to Christ Ministries, what have you found to be 16:57 the most exciting aspects of it, for you. 17:00 Well, the most exciting aspect... I would say 17:03 I get to do a lot of things in ministry like 17:06 say, for instance, God has given me so much ability 17:09 I didn't know I had so much stuff inside of me to come out 17:13 so it's like... I'm doing like... 17:14 Camera work, I'm doing music, I'm speaking, 17:17 so it's a lot of stuff that we have to do 17:19 but most importantly, what really impacted me 17:22 is more like the relationship that you get to have with God, 17:25 you really have to experience God as to high level 17:29 it calls you to push like... to go more 17:32 say, for instance, if you would spend like, say... 17:34 15 minutes in the morning with God 17:35 you are pushed to... like double that... 17:37 to like... half an hour, an hour, 17:39 so when you spend more time with God, 17:41 you get more power, more of an experience 17:43 to overcome your problems, to encourage others, 17:46 and you get called to do even more in the ministry 17:49 because you are on the higher level... higher experience. 17:51 So, what you're saying is that 17:53 this ministry has not... 17:55 is not only used by God 17:58 to strengthen the people that you're working with 18:00 it's used to strengthen you as well. 18:02 That's right. 18:03 So the more time you're spending with God 18:06 and getting to know Him, of course, 18:08 the more you can impart to others... but this is... 18:10 you're getting your spirit watered... as you water others. 18:14 That's right. 18:15 God is using this... God is... to me He is just so awesome 18:19 because He accomplishes so much with just one move. 18:23 One move can just do so many different things 18:27 but that's why He's God, right? 18:30 But Andrew, what about you, 18:33 what have you found that is the thing or the things 18:38 that keep you really wanting to be a part of this ministry? 18:42 I would say, definitely for me, would be the outreach aspect. 18:46 You know, the practicality, I'm from... 18:49 I'm from the Islands, right, I'm from Jamaica, 18:52 I migrated to Canada and there you find that 18:56 to be practical... you know, having that hands on... 18:59 to learn how to do things, you grow up, 19:02 that's instilled in you and this ministry... 19:04 what I found out is that it's practical, 19:06 you go in the home, you help, 19:08 you go to the jail, you encourage... you pray... 19:12 sometimes you yourself might feel a little bit low 19:16 or broken in a bit but as you encourage others 19:19 you find that Christ uses even somebody else's experience 19:23 to encourage you and... so I found that the practicality 19:27 of this ministry... to be really... just on par 19:32 and I praise God, I thank God for it. 19:34 Amen, Brother Jay, last but not least, 19:37 I haven't asked you anything yet, 19:38 what have you found to be the most challenging 19:42 aspect of being a part of this ministry? 19:45 Jay: Faith... Yvonne: Hmmm... how so? 19:49 So, yeah, I was just going to say, because 19:52 we go on so many missions as part of the Deliverance Team, 19:55 and without faith, there is no movement. 19:59 Hmmm... 20:00 And it takes the faith that we have, that we bring, 20:03 because we're going not of our strength but of God's 20:07 and believing that He is able to deliver that person 20:11 from whatever condition that he has 20:12 and weakness sometimes steps in remember... God said that... 20:18 Jesus... when He walked... with... with... 20:20 Thomas was there and he doubted, He said, 20:23 "Great is he that believes without seeing. " 20:26 So sometimes it becomes a challenge, 20:28 and you say... you're there praying 20:30 for five hours and sometimes you say, "God, where are you?" 20:32 And God is just teaching us to that dependency 20:36 and then in that moment of weakness, 20:38 God breaks through... because we're calling on Him more 20:42 and Brother Patrick is one of those guys who says, 20:44 "God, you've got to do it. " Hmmm... hmmm... 20:46 And we are there, we are praying for that 9th hour 20:48 and God comes right through, 20:49 so the faith is the most challenging 20:51 but the faith is the most rewarding. 20:53 Wow! you know, as I look at you, 20:55 I just... I feel so grateful that the Lord 20:59 is using young people like you, you are young people 21:04 that have dedicated your lives to ministry 21:09 and to doing God's work, that, to me, is so beautiful 21:12 because a lot of times... as you get older 21:15 I'm one of the older saints, you know, 21:17 people from church... they call us "saints" 21:19 for those of you who are not "churchy," 21:22 the older folks are sometimes called, 21:25 the "older saints" or whatever... 21:27 so, I'm one of the older saints, you have history with God. 21:30 So you know He's brought you through 21:32 you know He did this for you, He did that for you, 21:34 He did this for you, He did that for you... 21:36 and He continues to show Himself strong on my behalf. 21:40 So, I'm thankful for that but when I see young people 21:44 who could be doing anything else, 21:47 you guys could be doing anything else, 21:50 but you've chosen to dedicate your lives to Jesus Christ 21:54 and His work, that is so beautiful 21:56 and I know that you know 21:58 that there's nothing better than that. 22:01 If more people knew what it really was 22:04 to do things for Jesus Christ 22:07 and to actually sense His presence 22:11 and His power, 22:12 we'd have so many more people doing that. 22:15 What would you say, Brother Patrick, 22:17 what would you say to young people 22:20 who are thinking about getting involved in ministry 22:22 but just... just feeling like... 22:24 "I'd do that later when I get old... I'll do that later. " 22:27 What do you say to them? 22:28 You know what? The most important thing is 22:31 to know whom you serve. 22:32 When we know God, then the expectation is huge 22:37 because we know who God is 22:39 and that's what this ministry is about. 22:41 Knowing God and digging deeper than the surface. 22:44 You know, the other day, I was a little bit discouraged 22:49 because, we had a situation... 22:50 we were praying for a young person, 22:53 we had to bring her to my office for six weeks, 22:56 the heaviest demon possession we have ever seen 23:00 and it got to a point the other day 23:02 where I was discouraged because she is delivered to a limit 23:06 but the manifestation is beyond explaining on television. 23:09 But listen, I was saying, "God, you need to work, 23:13 and something is not right," 23:16 and while I was there, I was doing a sermon, 23:18 preparing to do a telecast, 23:21 a young man walked into the Head Office, 17-years-old 23:25 and He said, "I have a problem in stealing 23:29 and I need help" 23:30 So, what do you do? He said, "I need your help. " 23:34 I haven't seen him before... I haven't met him before... 23:37 somebody invited him there and I went into the room... 23:40 into the office and said, 23:42 we're going to pray for him because he asked for prayer. 23:44 I asked Sister Claudetta to come in with me 23:47 because I didn't have the Deliverance Team there 23:50 but this man needed attention now. 23:53 So we started to pray and by praying, 23:57 I raised my hand and said, "Lord, this young man, 24:01 by his faith, he needs to be delivered," 24:03 and he just bent up like... in an "S" 24:06 I've never seen a body... like a deformity 24:09 and he started to scream with a voice I've never heard, 24:12 I didn't know that he was possessed, 24:15 I had no idea and Claudette was there, 24:17 she had never experienced anything like that before 24:21 and I commanded the spirit, and the spirit told me 24:23 where they came from and their name 24:25 and I was able to bind and cast the demon out. 24:28 The reason I'm telling you this, 24:30 after it happened, I said, "God, you're still there 24:33 it's a reason why You allow us to go through certain things" 24:37 because when I called at that moment, God answered 24:42 and that was a turning point within my life 24:46 to tell a lot of Viewers and young people 24:49 that if you look beyond and look deeper 24:52 than the regular churchgoers, Sabbath School goers, 24:56 you're going to discover a goal, a power that is hidden 25:00 that ordinary Adventists had no idea 25:04 because half the church is sleeping or fighting for offices 25:08 while power goes on, the power is available. 25:12 Wow! isn't that funny, half the church is sleeping 25:15 or fighting for offices but you know what? 25:17 A lot of times that's true, we miss the whole thing, 25:22 God wants us to go to work for Him, 25:25 I mean, the... it's like 25:29 "the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few" 25:31 we need to have more people like you 25:35 that are out in the field working for God. 25:39 Tell us one... for we have one minute 25:41 give us one quick... one more story Brother Patrick. 25:44 God is so powerful, there's a story where 25:48 a pastor called, we work with many pastors 25:51 and the pastor called and said, "I need help" 25:54 and this was a young man who was smoking marijuana 25:58 and one day he was smoking the marijuana 26:01 and he felt a spirit enter his body 26:03 and he needed help, 26:04 so he went to this pastor, the pastor was praying for him 26:08 and it went out of control 26:10 and this is a big pastor, Adventist pastor, 26:12 six deacons and elders could not hold this young man 26:16 and finally, when the minister went there, 26:19 we sat the young man down and prayed 26:23 and I did a special prayer, it's all about forgiveness. 26:27 I did a special prayer and when I prayed for him, 26:31 I asked God, "Show him what he needs to confess" 26:34 and the Lord says to him, "You need to confess drugs, 26:39 alcohol, pornography, 26:41 all these things that you're doing" 26:43 and when he confessed, I raised my hand and said, 26:46 "In the name of Jesus, Satan, you have no more legal right, 26:50 come out of his body," and immediately, 26:53 we don't have time to break down what took place 26:56 with thirteen people in that room, 26:59 it's an unbelievable experience where he was set free. 27:04 Praise God...
