00:01 What's happening with some of the dynamic
00:03 ASI Ministries around the world?
00:06 Well, stay tuned to find out.
00:08 My name is Yvonne Lewis
00:09 and you're watching Urban Report.
00:37 Hello, and welcome to Urban Report.
00:40 Jason and I recently attended ASI in Houston, Texas
00:44 where we had a chance to talk to some of the movers
00:47 and shakers in ministry.
00:49 Take a look at what they're up to.
00:53 Tara Peterson and her team are doing some amazing,
00:57 amazing work, with Kuda Vana and it's an orphanage.
01:01 And she's going to tell us about it.
01:03 Tell us about Kuda Vana. Where is it?
01:05 Thank you so much, Yvonne, I appreciate your opportunity
01:07 to be here today.
01:08 My name is Tara Petersen and the Director of Development
01:11 for Kuda Vana partnership.
01:13 Kuda Vana means loving children
01:14 in a local Zimbabwean language of Shona.
01:17 And that's exactly what our partnership is doing.
01:19 We operate at children's home for 50 kids
01:22 and also support food security through a feeding program
01:25 for over 40 children and their families in Zimbabwe.
01:28 So there are over 50 children
01:31 that are living here at this orphanage.
01:34 Yes, that's correct.
01:35 We have infants all the way up through 18 years.
01:38 And after they age out of our orphanage,
01:39 we also provide support for them
01:41 to go to college if they will, that sort of thing.
01:44 So when it says here,
01:45 it's not your typical orphanage.
01:48 What do you mean by that?
01:49 Well, as our name suggests, we're not just providing them
01:52 with food and security
01:54 as a lot of orphanage globally do.
01:56 We're providing them with loving family homes
01:59 that really mimics what real family can be like.
02:01 So our operation actually has children living
02:04 in group homes with mamas
02:05 where they can grow up in a family setting
02:08 and learn what it's like to be part of a family.
02:10 We're also educating them.
02:12 We have a wonderful program and we're actually
02:14 in the middle of building a school,
02:15 so that we can not only educate the children in our community,
02:18 but also our children to serve as a revenue source
02:21 for the orphanage moving forward.
02:22 Oh, that's wonderful.
02:24 So they're not only learning their ABCs
02:27 and all that, they're also learning
02:29 how to generate income.
02:31 Yes, so a big part of our goal
02:32 is to teach these children
02:34 to become self-sufficient adults,
02:36 so they can in turn act
02:37 and help in their own communities.
02:39 And most of all, we want to teach them
02:41 that they have a loving Savior, who is their Father
02:43 and created them for a special purpose.
02:46 So you're giving them
02:47 spiritual education as well of course.
02:50 Yes, absolutely, which is why we are so excited about
02:53 our school project.
02:55 We already have land that's been given to us
02:57 to develop a new school.
02:59 And our goal is to actually have a kindergarten
03:01 through twelfth grade primary and secondary school
03:04 to give children the best possible education
03:06 and prepare them for their future.
03:08 Oh, that's incredible.
03:09 So have you had any children that have come up
03:12 and left the orphanage and gone out into the world?
03:16 Can you tell us about that? Yeah.
03:18 So the orphanage has been around
03:19 for about a dozen years.
03:21 And we do have a few children that have graduated out
03:23 and are now going to school.
03:25 So we have a few, one girl in particular,
03:27 who's actually in nursing school.
03:29 And we've been supporting her
03:30 as she goes on to her college plans.
03:32 And we will continue to do that as well for the children
03:34 that we currently have in high school.
03:36 So when the children leave,
03:39 they don't just leave the school
03:41 and just go on into the world without support.
03:43 You're saying that you continue to support them
03:46 even in the world.
03:48 That's right, Yvonne, that's also what makes
03:49 Kuda Vana partnership different.
03:51 We are truly a family for these children
03:54 and we will look after them as long as they need.
03:55 They can always come home to us,
03:57 and talk with us, get counsel for us.
04:00 And again, hopefully get back
04:02 to the children's home in the future.
04:04 So what's a typical day like in a day
04:07 for a child that Kuda Vana?
04:09 They wake up. What do they do?
04:11 That's a wonderful question.
04:12 I actually just came back from visiting Kuda Vana myself.
04:15 We have children again ages zero to eighteen.
04:18 They have morning chores,
04:19 they get up early in the morning,
04:20 they help their households.
04:22 You can imagine, if you're a mama
04:23 with a house of ten kids, you need a lot of help.
04:26 So all the kids they wash their own clothes,
04:28 they help with cooking.
04:30 They really learn essential life skills,
04:32 so they can eventually be self-sufficient.
04:34 Then they get up and they go to school.
04:35 So currently, we have actually hired several teachers,
04:38 who are home schooling our younger kids
04:40 with the best possible curriculum.
04:42 They get up, they go to school,
04:44 learn Math, English, Arithmetic,
04:46 all of those things, and of course, Bible classes.
04:49 And then they go home.
04:50 They have their meals together.
04:52 They have evening worship every day together.
04:54 And then every Friday of course,
04:55 they actually celebrate Sabbath together as well
04:57 as a large family unit.
04:59 Wow, now Sabbath,
05:01 how do they observe the Sabbath?
05:03 Is there a special church on site.
05:06 How do they observe the Sabbath?
05:07 We do have a church on site.
05:09 It's a beautiful a beautiful location
05:11 where the kids can worship together.
05:12 They love to sing and praise Jesus.
05:15 They're very musical.
05:16 We also have a wonderful relationship
05:18 with the local Seventh-day Adventist church
05:20 in Mutare, Zimbabwe
05:21 and they truly care about our children.
05:23 We visit there at least once a month I would say.
05:26 They also often take our children home
05:28 over school holidays.
05:29 We've had some that have tried to foster or adopt our kids.
05:32 Which is also one of our goals
05:33 is to help with the foster and adoption process,
05:36 so they can actually have forever families.
05:38 Aw, that's incredible.
05:39 So have you had a lot of success
05:41 in getting local people to adopt?
05:45 I would say that is a challenge.
05:46 Culturally in Zimbabwe, adoption isn't necessarily
05:49 something embraced.
05:50 So we really work hard to develop those relationships.
05:53 Well, thank you so very much. What's your website address?
05:55 Yes, if you're interested in learning more
05:57 please visit kudavana.org, that's K-U-D-A-V-A-N-A.org.
06:04 Thank you so much. Thank you so much, Yvonne.
06:06 We appreciate what you're doing.
06:07 And please support this effort. This is so important.
06:11 The Lord would have us to help the orphans.
06:16 I am so excited to be here at ASI 2017 in Houston, Texas
06:22 with somebody who is no stranger
06:24 to the Dare to Dream family.
06:25 His name is Monet,
06:27 and he is with the Eden Lifestyle.
06:30 We've interviewed you several times, right?
06:33 This is the third time. Yeah.
06:35 And the first time, we were talking about
06:38 raising funds for a wellness center.
06:41 The second time, they were renovating it.
06:44 Tell us what's going on with you now.
06:46 So now third time within about a year's period
06:49 or year and a half or so even less than that,
06:51 the Lord actually...
06:53 We now actually opened up the lifestyle center,
06:55 the Wellness Center in upstate New York.
06:57 And now we are running the sessions,
06:59 we had about two sessions so far
07:01 and the Lord has just been tremendously blessing
07:03 the wellness center up in the Northeast.
07:05 One of the, actually very few sanitariums,
07:08 actually wellness centers in the Northeast
07:09 right now in New York.
07:11 So we're roughly about two and a half hours away
07:13 from New York City, two hours away
07:16 from Connecticut away from Boston, Massachusetts.
07:18 It's really in a really good situated location right now.
07:22 And I mean the Lord has just been opening up
07:24 so many doors for the wellness center.
07:26 We have people coming in with all different types
07:28 of lifestyle issues and being able to help them
07:30 with going through cooking classes,
07:32 health lectures,
07:34 and also even different sorts of a massage,
07:38 and hydrotherapy.
07:40 And this is really educating them
07:42 on how to live a better lifestyle.
07:45 Well, I tell you what, I definitely want
07:47 to make a visit up there.
07:49 I want to take a trip
07:50 and experience the Eden Lifestyle.
07:53 And I want you to know that your money
07:55 is been going to an excellent cause.
07:57 And everything that they were saying
07:59 that they were raising the money
08:00 for has come into fruition by God's grace.
08:04 Tell us some testimonials, some stories
08:06 if you will in the brief time that we that we have,
08:11 how lives have been transformed.
08:13 I mean, we have so many wonderful,
08:15 powerful testimonies that have been happening
08:17 here in Eden Lifestyle.
08:18 But this one particular one
08:19 that actually really stand out to me.
08:21 Actually we had a young man coming from Ohio.
08:23 He's about 21 years old.
08:25 He was actually previously a Seventh-day Adventist.
08:28 But in association with different friends
08:32 and so forth, in Ohio, he became a staunch atheist.
08:37 He became an atheist. Young man about 21 years old.
08:40 Now this young man,
08:41 he became a little bit overweight.
08:43 Okay.
08:44 So guess what, he wanted to come to the wellness center.
08:47 So then he came down to the wellness center.
08:49 In about 7 days, he lost about 16 pounds.
08:52 It was so convincing to him as we went over devotionals
08:56 every morning,
08:57 every evening, we have evening and morning devotions.
09:00 And this man got so touched, he saw that he lost weight
09:02 in such a short period of time, and how his life was drawn
09:05 even closer the Christ,
09:06 that when he left the lifestyle center,
09:08 he didn't only leave losing about twenty pounds in total,
09:11 but also he left believing in Jesus Christ,
09:15 from an atheist. Wow.
09:17 So he went from atheist to believer,
09:19 lost weight, got in shape,
09:22 got that confidence now, and believes in Christ.
09:27 Amen, amen. And now he's so excited.
09:28 He's telling all his atheist friends
09:30 about the wellness center to come and lose weight
09:33 and to meet Jesus Christ.
09:34 So that is just been really touching to me.
09:36 To just hear this man, this young man prayed
09:37 for the first time.
09:39 It was just heartwarming to see a young man praying
09:43 for the first time is just a beautiful thing.
09:44 Amen. And ever so quickly.
09:47 What advice do you have to that person
09:50 that is trying to make changes in their lifestyle,
09:52 trying to make changes in their diet,
09:54 but their diet may not be the best.
09:56 They may be used to eating certain things.
09:59 And how should they begin?
10:02 The first way to begin is very, very simple.
10:04 And that's one of the most foundational ways
10:06 that we tell everybody is to put your will
10:08 into the hands of Christ.
10:10 The Bible says, "I can do all things
10:11 through Christ who strengthens me."
10:12 Because to drink water
10:14 is a very difficult thing to do sometimes,
10:17 even to eat a healthier plant-based lifestyle
10:19 is difficult thing to do.
10:20 But we realize that only by depending
10:22 upon the full power of Christ to give you the power
10:24 to make that decision
10:26 is the first step that you should take.
10:27 And then through making that first step
10:29 then God gives you the power.
10:30 Now to make those decisions not only for one day
10:33 or for two days, right, but also consistently
10:36 for the rest of your life.
10:37 Wow. Amen.
10:39 So it's Christ that brings about that transformation
10:41 because we're powerless on our own.
10:43 That is correct. That is very, very correct.
10:45 And we have found out to be
10:46 even with lifestyle changes as well.
10:48 It's not just some self modification
10:49 or some sort of thing like that
10:51 but it's really dependent upon Christ.
10:53 And even right now at the wellness center,
10:55 not only that the sessions are going on,
10:56 but also we have started an organic farm.
10:59 Yes, we've been planting about one hundred blueberry trees
11:02 as well, blueberry plants.
11:03 And it really going to be expanding that,
11:05 so that when people come, not only that we have therapies
11:07 but also the farm as well.
11:09 That is excellent, well, thank you so much,
11:11 I hope we get to spend some more time with you.
11:13 We're going to go check out some other great ministries
11:15 and we hope that you've been blessed by Eden Lifestyle.
11:21 One of the things that I love about ASI is that
11:24 I get to meet a lot of the owners
11:26 and people who are movers and shakers for God
11:29 in the marketplace.
11:30 And one of those is Lawrence Rykard.
11:33 And Lawrence is the owner of Hasting His Harvest.
11:37 It's a business...
11:38 Well, I'll let him tell you about it.
11:39 Tell us about Hasting His Harvest.
11:41 Yes, we are health food ministry health food business.
11:45 We exist to share with people the love of God.
11:48 But at the same time, practically help them
11:50 to get well to see that love.
11:52 We do cooking classes,
11:54 we have some health food products,
11:56 we also do catering as well.
11:59 And we just exist to serve others
12:02 and serve the Lord.
12:03 That's wonderful. Where are you located?
12:05 We're currently in College Park, Maryland.
12:07 We also operate out of Washington, D.C. Yeah.
12:11 And how did you get started with this?
12:13 How did it happen? Well, it's a long story.
12:16 That's okay, we have a few minutes,
12:17 you can tell us in a few minutes.
12:19 Absolutely.
12:21 So I will go back to my conversion
12:24 when I gave my heart to the Lord,
12:26 I began to study the Bible, and pray,
12:29 and I just found in the Bible
12:31 that God cared about our health.
12:34 At the time, I was studying Dietetics nutrition in college.
12:37 So I was already interested in health
12:39 and there wasn't a day that wouldn't go by
12:41 where I wouldn't have to, you know,
12:43 exercise or work out, so that piqued my interest.
12:46 And then I read a book also, called Ministry of Healing
12:49 that was very encouraging to me and enlightening.
12:52 And I joined some of the missionaries
12:55 who had a similar mindset to share God
12:58 through the health message.
13:00 We've been through so many experiences together.
13:03 And we've had a restaurant, a few years ago.
13:06 And so from there Hasting His Harvest
13:08 began about two years ago just through prayer
13:12 through a desire to continue
13:14 what God had been teaching me
13:16 to hasten His harvest, to hasten His coming.
13:18 Yes.
13:19 And what have you been finding
13:20 as a result of people eating the food
13:23 and learning more about health, what's been happening?
13:26 Well, great things. I recently got a testimony.
13:30 We did one of our most recent cooking classes
13:33 that someone who came to the class decided
13:35 they were going to eat meat anymore
13:37 because they saw that they could have
13:39 something better that tastes good
13:42 that was also healthy as well.
13:45 So that was one of the most recent things,
13:47 through another convention we did
13:50 which was operated for about three days
13:53 including the Sabbath.
13:54 We were able to not sell anything
13:57 but we had our books available.
14:00 We had a sign up, that said, "We're sorry,
14:03 we're closed for the Sabbath."
14:04 But we do have some healthy books here
14:06 so that you guys can see this.
14:08 And there was another Sabbath-keeping group there
14:10 and they were just totally amazed,
14:12 there weren't Adventist group,
14:15 and they came in to us
14:17 and "Who are you guys? And who are you?"
14:18 And they got a whole case of ministry of healing
14:21 and we've been following up with them.
14:22 They want us to come there and do some healthy cooking
14:25 and health education.
14:26 Yeah. That is awesome.
14:28 So look at how God is using you to be a witness
14:32 and to also help people who are sick.
14:35 There's so many people who are sick
14:37 and so this is such a blessing.
14:39 What's your vision for this company?
14:43 Well, my vision is that this company will assist
14:48 in aiding cooperate with God
14:51 and others to hasten His coming.
14:55 And in a nutshell, we just want to do our part
14:57 as far as the health food work is concerned
14:59 and health education to see
15:01 Jesus coming sooner to be alive when he comes.
15:06 And maybe hastening these hours will be in heaven.
15:09 Okay, I love it. I love it.
15:11 Okay, So may I taste something? Sure.
15:13 Okay, all right, what do you have?
15:15 Tofu. Okay.
15:18 I love seeing young people involved in ministry.
15:24 I mean, to me it's so refreshing,
15:26 it's so exciting to see young people
15:29 taking the banner,
15:30 taking on these tasks of going forth
15:36 and just sharing the gospel
15:38 through the health message, it's just wonderful.
15:40 So, we're excited. So okay, what you got?
15:42 Tell me what you got.
15:44 So we have a variety of tofus here.
15:46 We have a skinless chicken flavor,
15:47 we have a steak flavor, sweet and sour,
15:51 Curry, fish, we even have a chicken salad.
15:55 And others that are not here,
15:56 but I'm going to let you try the barbecue.
15:59 If Jason were here, he would be drooling right now.
16:13 Mmm. Oh, yes.
16:17 You're going to want to get that.
16:18 What's your website?
16:19 Website is www.hastingHisharvest.com
16:25 And do you ship?
16:27 We do ship some of our products, absolutely.
16:30 You're going to want to get this.
16:32 What a blessing. Yummy.
16:34 God bless you. Make sure you check it out.
16:38 I'm so excited once again to be at ASI,
16:42 in Houston 2017 with somebody else
16:45 who is no stranger to the Dare to Dream network.
16:48 You might have seen him on Chew's Challenge.
16:50 This is Chef G W Chew.
16:53 And tell us what's going on with your ministry now.
16:56 Yeah, we actually have a vegan restaurant
16:58 in Oakland, California.
17:00 It's pretty amazing right now. We're serving a great food.
17:03 We have a product called feta cheese steak.
17:05 So it looks like steak, tastes like steak,
17:07 but guess what.
17:09 It's not steak.
17:10 And we use food as a bridge to our community.
17:12 And we find that feeding healthy food,
17:14 having good customer service, loving old people,
17:17 and giving them something to chew on
17:19 is the perfect recipe for success
17:21 and ministering to souls.
17:23 So we found that we're seeing great things happening
17:25 in Oakland, California right now, yeah.
17:27 And so what impact is it having on the community
17:30 in terms of employment?
17:32 And tell is something about that.
17:34 Yes, we were talking about that.
17:36 Yeah, so, you know,
17:37 first of all, man, I mean, we're...
17:38 We're not only doing food, we're doing lot of education.
17:41 So we're actually mentoring kids in our community.
17:44 And we have urban youth who actually are coming
17:46 for cooking classes, hands-on cooking classes,
17:49 teaching how to cook, giving them a dream.
17:51 You know, I had a cooking class about two weeks ago.
17:53 I had my grand opening scissors.
17:55 And I was telling the young people that
17:56 you know dreams are possible, man, you know, sometimes,
17:58 you know, we have setbacks.
18:00 So one of the things we're doing is encouraging
18:01 our community especially people of color
18:03 who don't really see a lot of African-Americans
18:06 and other, you know, minorities
18:07 doing businesses in our communities.
18:09 And I'm also we providing jobs.
18:11 Which I believe is one of the most important things
18:13 to bring help to our communities.
18:15 And so we're providing jobs, mentorship,
18:18 you know, it has been a life, you know, to the people there.
18:20 So basically, what your town is in a sense
18:24 you're implementing Christ method.
18:26 Because you're not just telling people, "Hey, follow us."
18:30 But you're meeting their needs
18:32 just like Christ met the people's needs.
18:34 And then said, "Follow me." Exactly. Exactly.
18:37 You know, one of the things we are doing, we actually...
18:39 We're launching a product and a whole foods market.
18:42 We just got approved into 20 stores,
18:44 which is amazing.
18:45 We have a product called Better Chew.
18:48 You can see on my shirt here, Better Chew.
18:50 Better Chew fried chicken
18:52 and that'll be at three flavors.
18:53 And a great thing about that because that's again
18:55 creating sustainability for our ministry.
18:57 And one of the things we found when it comes to ministry
18:59 is how do we keep it sustained,
19:01 and so we actually have our great food products
19:03 going into stores, providing employment,
19:05 giving sustenance to our ministry model,
19:07 and it's just a great, great accomplishment,
19:09 you know, that we're seeing God
19:10 who God did it for us, you know, it's so pretty cool.
19:12 And who do you partner with?
19:13 Yeah we're partnering now.
19:15 I'm currently partnering with Northern California Conference.
19:17 The restaurant is actually owned by the conference.
19:19 We actually created the restaurant
19:21 for the conference.
19:22 And then they hired me to run it for them,
19:24 pretty neat combination.
19:25 So it's amazing ministry,
19:27 we kind of seeing a partnership with,
19:28 you know, with self-supporting ministries
19:29 and with local conferences and seeing how that two synergy
19:33 can kind of work together
19:34 to finish God's work in these last days.
19:36 And I think that's so important.
19:37 Yes, absolutely.
19:39 And the fact that you're empowering
19:40 the community with jobs,
19:42 with getting people rehabilitated...
19:45 And a touch on that
19:46 because the rehabilitation was like what?
19:48 Anger management and what else?
19:50 Yes. So with our manufacturing...
19:51 Again, manufacturing's was the backbone
19:54 especially many minority communities,
19:56 Blue collar jobs.
19:58 We're looking again right now with going into whole foods
20:00 and other venues that providing manufacturing jobs.
20:03 What that does is that it gives us a foundation
20:05 to be able to provide employment
20:07 but while providing employment,
20:09 we're looking at creating rehabilitation services
20:11 while work as life improvement services.
20:13 These being anger management, parenting skills.
20:16 You know, just getting a GED.
20:18 You know, currently we're hiring young men
20:19 off the streets and we have a young man
20:21 who's been working with us about two weeks currently.
20:23 He was actually... He's a window cleaner.
20:25 He came a few times. We had a job opportunity form.
20:28 Now he's working for us for fulltime
20:30 making $20 an hour in Oakland which is amazing.
20:34 So we're pretty excited about that.
20:35 I mean, at the same time, and these daily challenges
20:37 that we're having at times.
20:39 But every day becomes a discipleship
20:40 opportunity with them.
20:42 We're praying with them in the morning time.
20:43 And so I just believe that we can create jobs,
20:46 give a person opportunity to give them dignity, support,
20:49 it is that so much for their soul foundation
20:51 and their wellbeing. Absolutely.
20:53 And they're able to take care of their family.
20:55 Exactly, exactly.
20:56 And not only are they able to take care of their families,
20:59 but you're equipping them with the trade.
21:01 You know, if they decide to go anywhere else,
21:03 they have that foundation. Exactly.
21:05 And I'm sure they'll be learning about Christ as well.
21:08 That's the key. That's the key, man.
21:09 Again, we need practical solutions
21:11 for inner cities especially.
21:12 You know, our inner cities
21:13 are very difficult places to work.
21:15 There's so much competition from the world.
21:17 But I believe as a Christian, business people as Christian,
21:20 soul winners for Christ.
21:21 We can do so much and do so much for his kingdom.
21:23 Yes, absolutely.
21:25 Now you've heard it here.
21:26 There's so much going on at ASI.
21:28 If you haven't been to one,
21:30 you definitely need to check it out.
21:31 And we're so happy about
21:33 what you're doing in your community.
21:35 Make sure that you get out into your community
21:37 and empower others.
21:38 Let's go check out
21:39 some other great ministries at ASI.
21:44 Are you looking for a new career?
21:46 Well, I have to tell you that one point in my life,
21:48 I was a massage therapist and I'm standing here today
21:52 with Alvin Trace who is the director
21:55 of the Black Hills School of Massage, right?
21:58 Did I get it right? That's correct. You got it.
22:00 And he's going to tell us about the school of massage.
22:03 It is a Christian school of massage, is it not?
22:05 Yes, it is. Tell us about it.
22:07 Well, in 19...
22:08 Sorry, in 2007, the massage school was started
22:11 by Carrie Beets, one of our former instructors.
22:15 And she really worked hard to get that thing in place.
22:20 We are a licensed program
22:22 that means students can come and attend our program
22:26 and be eligible to get state license
22:27 in whatever state they live in.
22:29 It's pretty exciting.
22:31 That's incredible, incredible.
22:33 Because a lot of people don't know that,
22:34 you know, you go to school for massage,
22:36 you get a license, and then you can practice.
22:38 Exactly. It's $600 program, 6 months.
22:42 So students come and they take all the courses
22:45 that we normally teach.
22:47 The neat thing is we don't teach
22:48 the Eastern modalities, the new age approach,
22:51 it's more evidence based, medically based.
22:54 And like I'm saying, in six months,
22:56 they can finish up, get their license,
22:59 and then apply for a license here in the national exam.
23:02 Wow.
23:03 What kinds of courses are involved?
23:05 We teach physiology, anatomy, pathology, kinesiology,
23:09 then that the massage courses themselves,
23:12 Swedish massage
23:13 and we do different modalities to introduce them
23:15 to more opportunities they have.
23:17 You know, it's interesting that you would say
23:19 that we don't have
23:20 that you don't have the Eastern modalities
23:24 because, you know, I came out of that whole thing.
23:27 And it's very interesting
23:28 how Eastern medicine has also penetrated
23:32 that can you give us a little bit about
23:34 what you don't teach.
23:36 What we don't teach is energy practices,
23:39 we don't teach reflexology,
23:41 we don't teach a number of different things
23:44 that we feel uncomfortable with,
23:46 that really aren't evidence based.
23:48 So lot of us kind of get sucked into a lot of practices
23:54 that really aren't I believe divinely inspired.
23:57 So true.
23:58 We can get sucked into practices
23:59 that aren't divine.
24:01 Exactly. Yeah, absolutely.
24:03 So what are some of the...
24:07 You said you already do Swedish massage
24:10 and other kinds of massage.
24:12 Sure, we give them introductions
24:14 to trigger point therapy,
24:17 myofascial release, sports massage,
24:21 and, you know, what are the other modalities
24:23 that we think are appropriate for that particular class.
24:26 Oh, that's great.
24:27 Now how do you integrate Christian principles
24:30 in with the whole thing?
24:33 The whole program really is focused on medical ministry.
24:38 How so?
24:39 Well, you know, we teach the students
24:42 how to do hydrotherapy, massage.
24:45 And hydrotherapy is actually part of the scope
24:47 of practice of massage.
24:49 But most schools don't delve into that very much.
24:52 And a lot of the students
24:53 that come there really want to go
24:55 into medical ministry.
24:57 We are a lifestyle center.
24:59 Some of them tell us that they feel like
25:02 they're getting an internship in lifestyle medicine
25:03 while they are there
25:05 because they're mingling with the guests,
25:06 work with the guests.
25:08 Oh, that's incredible.
25:09 Tell us about, do you have any graduates
25:11 that have had great success stories?
25:13 Yeah, we have one graduate that I think is pretty amazing
25:16 in our last class.
25:18 An Army colonel with 30 years of experience
25:21 felt like he wanted to get back and find a way
25:24 to spiritually reach out to people.
25:26 And he was one of our oldest students
25:30 in the class that year.
25:32 And 30 years in the military
25:33 and then he came to be a massage therapist
25:35 and God impressed him
25:36 when he was in England to get on the on line
25:38 and he's an amazing guy.
25:40 Wow.
25:41 And he found you and just went into...
25:44 And did the program. Exactly.
25:46 And how long is the program? It's 6 months, $600.
25:49 And then they're eligible to take the MBLEx,
25:51 the national examination.
25:53 And the neat thing is we have 100% pass rate
25:56 since the school was started in 2007.
25:59 That is to 100% pass rate, no one has failed the test.
26:03 Correct. That's tremendous.
26:06 Okay.
26:08 So can you give us just a little demonstration?
26:10 This is so cheesy, right?
26:12 I'm getting a little free massage.
26:14 Can you give a little demonstration
26:17 of what you do?
26:18 Okay, I'm going to set the mic down,
26:19 take a look at what he's doing.
26:21 You can learn this.
26:23 Oh, give us your website before we go.
26:24 www.bhhec.org
26:28 One more time. www.bhhec.org
26:33 Okay. You got it. I hope you got it.
26:36 All right, here we go.
27:10 We always have such a great time at ASI
27:13 because the people there are so on fire for Jesus.
27:17 It's such a blessing to be there
27:19 and we get to taste some of the food that's there.
27:22 And, you know, Jason loves that too.
27:24 And so it was just a blast to be there.
27:27 And to meet the people
27:28 who are so intent upon sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ
27:33 with people around the world.
27:35 The people who are working with orphanages
27:39 and feeding children
27:40 and teaching about health and all these things,
27:44 it was just a blessing.
27:45 So as you could probably see,
27:46 these folks are on a mission for Jesus.
27:49 And please keep them in your prayers
27:51 and ask the Holy Spirit how you can support them.
27:53 Well, we've reached the end of another program.
27:56 Thanks for tuning in.
27:57 Join us next time because you know what,
27:59 it just wouldn't be the same without you.
