00:01 Welcome back to the Ultimate Prescription.
00:02 I'm your host, Nick Evenson here, 00:04 and we're here with Dr. James Marcum 00:05 and special guest, Bobby Davis today. 00:07 And Bobby has been sharing 00:09 what I think is an incredible story 00:10 and perspective on how you really came through 00:13 with blessings in cardiac bypass surgery. 00:16 You know, 00:18 and I think it really brings together 00:20 what we've been trying to teach people 00:23 through the years and through this program, 00:25 that there's a place for modern technology. 00:27 Don't get me wrong, 00:29 you know, we all have bad genes. 00:30 Sometimes God can use modern technology 00:32 for His cause, 00:33 and it's gotten better and better. 00:35 In my 30 years, 00:36 we're doing bypass so much safer and better, 00:39 our medicines are better 00:40 and you saw all the medicines that you were on at one time. 00:43 But that list of big medicines are now smaller, 00:46 and we're hoping to minimize them 00:48 but you might always need a little bit, okay? 00:50 And we also see 00:52 how God can help us with our lifestyle, 00:54 you know, when we have these events, 00:56 but the most important thing 00:58 might not be what we think is important. 01:00 God can use our illnesses to heal us permanently. 01:05 I would rather be sick and dying 01:08 and have an experience like this 01:10 than not to know I'm healed permanently. 01:13 And even if you are in that place, 01:15 God can take it to a deeper level. 01:17 And I think that's what you had. 01:18 You already had a relationship with Him, 01:20 but you took it that much deeper. 01:21 Explain how it has changed you even more 01:24 and how it's even increased your ministry? 01:26 Well, 01:28 one of the things that I keep noticing is that 01:31 I'm much more aware of my blessings. 01:33 You know, 01:35 for a long time now I've enjoyed the blessings 01:38 that God gives me and I've trained myself 01:41 to look for those blessings. 01:42 And there are days when, you know, 01:44 I'm not feeling so great about life 01:46 and I'll sit down and write a gratitude list, 01:48 physically write a list of things 01:50 that I'm grateful for, 01:52 because I've learned that 01:53 my brain can't go in opposite directions 01:55 at the same time. 01:56 It can go back and forth pretty quickly. 01:58 But if I'm focused on the good things 02:00 in this world 02:01 and the blessings that God gives me, 02:03 that changes my outlook. 02:05 It gives me energy to keep doing 02:09 what I'm supposed to do in the first place. 02:10 And it keeps me looking for more ways to help others 02:13 which is really that other centeredness 02:18 that all of us should strive for, 02:19 that selflessness. 02:22 One of the things that 02:23 I don't want to forget to say is that I believe that 02:26 when we go through difficult situations 02:29 like this surgery, 02:32 and we get through them, 02:34 which we always do with God's help. 02:37 He makes us uniquely qualified to help another person 02:42 who's going through that situation. 02:44 The person who goes through a tragedy of losing a loved one 02:49 can help another person going through that 02:51 in a way that maybe I can't. 02:54 A person that's going through the loss of a job 02:56 can be helped by somebody 02:58 who made it through that loss of a job 03:01 and was moved to a different place, 03:02 you know. 03:04 I had a friend one time 03:05 when I lost my job for 13 months. 03:08 He said, "Bobby, don't worry about it. 03:10 It just means that God needs you somewhere else." 03:13 And this was the somewhere else. 03:15 And I've been here now for 27 years, 03:17 and this was the best move of my life. 03:21 Applying the things that I know, 03:23 you know, honestly, you know, 03:25 I should have lived my life a lot differently than I did. 03:29 And it would have probably been helpful 03:33 not to ignore some of the things 03:37 that your program teaches, 03:38 you know, 03:40 I'm embarrassed to say, I'm here. 03:41 I know these health principles, 03:43 but I don't always live up to them. 03:45 And this experience, of course, 03:46 has really put that back into perspective. 03:50 I've suffered some of the consequences 03:52 and I'm grateful to be alive every day. 03:55 But I believe that the blessings 03:57 keep going because of my, 03:59 you know, 04:00 I remember the day when I recall that 04:03 I had taken out some other supplemental insurance. 04:07 And on top of all of this, 04:10 I received the financial blessing. 04:12 So, you know, 04:14 God, where do you stop with the blessings 04:16 and He doesn't. 04:17 Of course, He's smiling and saying, 04:19 "You haven't seen anything yet." 04:22 I remember there was a time 04:25 where I was just one of the most negative people 04:29 you've ever met. 04:30 And I just couldn't break out of that, 04:32 you know, 04:34 I just looked at, 04:36 I mean, it didn't matter what it was, 04:38 I had a problem for every solution, you know, 04:41 and you couldn't solve my problems 04:42 because I'd find another problem. 04:44 And today, you know, 04:46 that has changed a lot. 04:47 And of course, 04:49 this experience has brought me so much closer to the Lord 04:52 but most of everything, I mean, 04:54 at the core of what I want to get across is that 04:58 I finally understand that peace that passes all understanding. 05:02 And whereas it might have been a river in the beginning, 05:06 it's now an ocean. 05:08 And it carried me through the whole process. 05:11 Yes, there was pain. 05:13 Yes, it was uncomfortable to get out of bed. 05:15 Yes, I was grateful for my sister 05:19 and my brother-in-law to help me 05:20 through those first few days. 05:22 And for the doctors and the people that saw me, 05:25 but I can tell you that applying these principles 05:29 that you talked about here, is important. 05:32 Within a week, 05:33 I was walking almost a mile a day, 05:36 and within two weeks, it was two miles a day, 05:38 within three weeks, it was six miles a day. 05:41 Guess what that does for my diabetes, for my heart? 05:45 And, you know, 05:47 I'm still working with that. 05:48 I'm in rehab now, cardio rehab, 05:51 and they're pushing me and I'm grateful for that. 05:55 Although my brain tells me five times a day, at least, 05:58 I really don't want to do this, 05:59 you know, I need to just take it easy. 06:02 Take it easy doesn't get me anywhere. 06:04 I need to keep pushing forward. 06:06 So I focus on the Lord 06:08 and I ask Him for strength and I keep going. 06:11 Now we saw that gigantic list of medicines you're on. 06:15 How many are you on now? 06:17 A whole lot less. 06:18 I have not figured out all the numbers. 06:22 I can't tell you the numbers. 06:23 But it is lot less now than it was. 06:26 So now this journey started when? 06:30 How long has it been going on? 06:32 You're still within this journey. 06:33 Yes. 06:35 I had heart surgery just over two months ago. 06:36 Okay. 06:38 And my question to my patients when they come back 06:41 is what are you gonna do so you don't lose this feeling? 06:47 'Cause what I see sometimes a year or two go, 06:50 oh, they feel good. 06:51 They feel all healed up that they... 06:53 this urgency that they have in their heart. 06:55 Sometimes they lose that. 06:57 I can see the fervor, 06:59 I can see how the spirit is using this experience 07:02 to enhance your ministry. 07:05 How are you gonna keep that going? 07:07 Well, for one, I'm gonna look for people 07:09 who are going through this situation. 07:10 There you go. 07:12 There is no better way to be reminded 07:14 than to be around people 07:16 who are going through the situation. 07:18 Already there have been I think two people here at work 07:21 who have gotten, had to have heart surgery. 07:24 And I'm gonna stop you right there. 07:26 If you want to be connected, go to our website, 07:29 HeartWiseMinistries.org, and we'll forward your email 07:33 and pray for you and forward you to someone 07:35 that might be able to help out in your experience. 07:38 Amen. 07:40 The other thing that came from this 07:42 and that I believe will keep me going through this 07:46 with all this fervor is that 07:48 I picked up a Bible it's called the Reader's Bible. 07:51 And the verses and chapters have been removed to the sides. 07:55 And it reads as a story 07:56 and I have just been absolutely fascinated. 07:59 I'm a writer, 08:01 I deal with words all day long, 08:03 but I had never read the Bible as a story. 08:07 And I'll sit down and read five, 08:10 six chapters in one sitting and not even realize the time 08:14 that's gone by, you know. 08:15 And so for me, 08:16 I believe it's important to keep growing spiritually. 08:19 If I don't grow, I go. 08:22 And I always go backwards. 08:23 There's no coasting uphill, 08:25 you know, 08:26 this experience of ours is an uphill climb. 08:29 And if I don't grow, I'll go. 08:31 So you can really testify 08:33 that your worship is changing your physiology. 08:36 Amen. 08:38 But as much as the pills do. 08:39 Absolutely, absolutely. 08:42 I believe that the challenges, 08:44 most of the challenges in life are nowhere near as dramatic, 08:48 but they're every bit as important 08:50 because it's in those smaller challenges 08:54 that our character is built. 08:56 And if my character doesn't continue to change, 08:58 and by the way, 09:00 I don't change my own character, 09:01 that's God's job, you know. 09:03 And I don't know, 09:04 I think the deeper I go into God's love, 09:07 the more I realize 09:08 how healing that love really is, 09:10 and how it has changed my outlook on life, 09:15 how it changes the way I look at people, 09:18 how I interact with people, 09:19 and I'm amazed at the changes 09:22 that have happened in just the last few months, 09:24 you know, there's... 09:25 I don't know how to explain it. 09:27 But I think that's what it really is. 09:31 It's a miracle. Yeah. 09:32 It's a miracle, a miracle from God. 09:34 Yeah. 09:35 And, Bobby, I want to give you a minute 09:37 to start your phone up here. 09:38 Dr. Marcum usually shares a biblical prescription 09:40 with us at this point in the program, 09:41 but during the break, 09:43 you guys were talking about a particular verse, 09:44 and we'd like for you to share that with the viewers here 09:47 when you get that ready. 09:49 Not to put you on the spot. 09:50 You know, this is such a powerful testimony 09:54 and others might be able to identify 09:56 whether you might have cancer or heart disease 09:59 or rheumatology or any of these issues. 10:03 As you pull that to God, 10:05 He can use this so you can minister to others 10:07 and even if we succumb to our illnesses, 10:10 He has promised 10:11 that He's gonna be there for us in the end 10:13 and heal us, right? 10:15 In the twinkling of an eye. 10:16 So even if it might not have turned out good, 10:18 it does turn out good. 10:19 It does. Yes Yeah. 10:21 I was reminded of a story of Joseph and his brothers 10:25 when he finally reveals who he is to his brothers. 10:27 They're terrified because they feel like 10:30 they had done something very evil. 10:32 They had sold him into slavery all those years before. 10:36 And now he was one of the most powerful people in Egypt. 10:39 And yet, his love for his brothers. 10:43 In his love he says to them, 10:45 "Do not be afraid for am I in the place of God, 10:49 but it's for you. 10:51 You meant evil against me, 10:53 but God meant it for good 10:55 in order to bring it about as it is this day 10:58 to save many people alive." 11:01 I remember thinking, I can say this to the devil. 11:05 He meant evil. 11:07 He meant to kill me through this process. 11:10 But God turned it around. 11:12 And God always does. 11:13 I have to serve a God 11:17 that will take the worst thing in my life 11:19 and turn it into the best. 11:20 And this certainly has been that sort of a situation 11:24 and I had many others. 11:25 And if I choose to look at it in that way. 11:30 Of course, I'm gonna serve Him, 11:31 you know, out of love and out of gratitude. 11:34 Wow. What a great story. 11:36 Yeah, Bobby, 11:38 I'm inspired by your story 11:39 and your willingness to share that with us 11:41 so thank you very much for that. 11:43 And listeners at home, if you have interest, 11:45 we would like for you to download 11:47 the Biblical Prescriptions app. 11:49 You can find that on the Apple App Store 11:51 or on the Google Play Store and it's a free download. 11:54 And you can set it to alert you three times a day 11:57 when you can pick your times 11:59 and get a word of encouragement, 12:03 and some hope and healing through God's Word 12:06 using the app there. 12:08 So we encourage you to download that. 12:09 And if you'd like, 12:10 you can join our prayer forum at HeartWiseMinistries.org. 12:14 That's our website where you can go on there 12:15 and list your prayer requests. 12:17 And please take a moment to pray 12:18 for other folks as well. 12:19 It sends them a notification letting them know 12:21 that folks are praying for them and lifting them up. 12:23 And that really means a lot. 12:25 And, Dr. Marcum, thank you for all your expertise 12:28 on this program as usual. 12:29 And we'll be back in just a moment 12:31 as Dr. Marcum will close this program in prayer. 12:40 We want to thank Bobby Davis 12:41 for sharing his testimony today, 12:43 and I hope and I know that that's been benefit to you. 12:47 Many of you might be out there suffering from heart disease 12:51 or cancer or some other ailment, 12:53 but we want to let you know that 12:55 God can use this to bring you closer to Him. 12:58 Let's bow our heads in prayer. 13:01 Dear Heavenly Father, 13:03 we want to thank You today for being our Lord and Savior. 13:07 And we want to remember the text 13:09 and all things give thanks. 13:12 Thanks for our trials, thanks for our illnesses. 13:15 But more than that, 13:16 thank You for being our Lord and for helping us 13:18 to be in relationship with You. 13:21 Now, go with us this day 13:22 and be especially close is our prayer. 13:24 Amen. 13:25 If you might ask some questions regarding heart disease 13:28 or want to get in contact with Bobby Davis, 13:31 we can make that arrangement at our website. 13:34 Go to HeartWiseMinistries.org. 13:37 There's also a prayer forum there 13:39 where we'd love to pray for you 13:40 and you can pray for one another. 13:42 And if you're interested in learning more about health 13:45 or downloading our app, that's the place to go 13:47 HeartWiseMinistries.org. 13:50 I'm Dr. James Marcum wishing you the best of health. |
