00:07 Sermon #S025 - The Purge - Part 2)
00:19 Welcome to the Breath of Life Television Ministries Broadcast with Pastor Debleaire Snell! 00:25 In today's episode, Pastor Snell will share Part Two of the powerful message: “The Purge.” 00:32 Now, lets go into the Word of God. 00:36 Pastor Snell: See, what God needs somebody to know is that you are to walk in the light that's being revealed 00:42 because what I have for you isn't going to run out. I'm going to preach it till somebody gets it today. 00:49 Do you realize that there are certain miracles embedded in the word just to teach us that God never ever runs out? 00:56 The reason he takes them through forty years in the wilderness and so he can send manna each 01:02 and every day so that they can learn the lesson that God never ever runs out. 01:07 In the forty years, their clothes didn't tear because God wants them to know that I never ever run out. 01:14 In forty years, their sandals didn't break because God wants them to know that I never ever run out. 01:21 When God supplied the widow with oil, as long as there were available vessels, guess what? 01:27 The oil kept on pouring because God never ever runs out. When God fed the 5,000, 01:33 he didn't stop as soon as somebody got a piece, the Bible says that he didn't stop the miracle until everybody was satisfied. 01:42 What God needs somebody to know is that as many problems as there are, there is enough supply for everyone. 01:50 There's enough provision. There is enough healing. There's enough grace. There's enough supply 01:58 because you serve the God who never runs out. 02:03 [ Congregation: Amen. Clapping] 02:05 Stop bracing yourself. Stop parachuting yourself. When is the church going to stop having faith for the bad 02:15 and start having faith for the blessing? Why do you anticipate drought and famine more than you anticipate abundance? 02:24 John 10 says, "I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly." 02:31 Do I have at least 7 folk who are not just always waiting for the worst to happen 02:37 but do believe God opens doors that no man can shut? That God will open up his hand and send an abundance supply? 02:46 That God's grace is sufficient? 02:50 [ Congregation: Amen. Clapping] 02:52 Are you all hearing the preacher today, friends? The word says here in Numbers 14:29. You all tired? 03:02 [ Congregation: No] 03:03 Amen. I got a little ways to go. 03:07 [ Congregation: Laughing] 03:08 Numbers 14:29, watch this. It literally says this. Numbers 14, actually, in verse 26. 03:15 When you get there, say amen. 03:17 [ Congregation: Amen] 03:19 No, actually, let me go back to verse 19. So God says, "Pardon the iniquity of these people. 03:24 I pray." This is Moses praying. "I pray according to the greatness of your mercy just as you have forgiven these people from 03:31 Egypt unto now." Then the Lord said, "I pardon according to your word, but truly, as I live, 03:36 the Earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord because all these men who have seen my glory 03:40 and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness and have put me to the test. 03:44 Now, these 10 times and have not heeded my voice, they will certainly not see the land I swore unto their fathers 03:52 because they have rejected me who see it. But my servant Caleb, because he has a, what? A different spirit in him 04:03 and has followed me, I will bring him into the land where he went and his descendants shall inherit it." 04:11 Then verse 29 says, "The carcasses of those who have complained against me shall fall in the wilderness, 04:17 all of you who are numbered according to your entire number from twenty years old and above." Third thing this teaches us, 04:27 friends of mine, is this, is that purge is not punishment. I need somebody to hear this, that a purge is not punishment. 04:42 It's how God preserves what he has left. 04:50 So go home, read all of Numbers 14. See, when they initially rebelled, God's initial response is he's like, 04:59 "I'm just going to annihilate the entire group." He says, "Moses listen, I'm going to kill them with plagues 05:06 and I'm going to start and improve the nation with you and your descendants." 05:11 But then what Moses does is he begins to intercede for the people 05:16 and he begins to appeal to God on the basis of his reputation. 05:21 He says it's going to give a fodder to the enemies of Jehovah. 05:25 They'll have this testimony that he brought them out of Egypt just to kill and destroy them in the wilderness. 05:32 So God says, "Okay, Moses, I'm going to hear your word. I'm not going to kill Israel, but I will purge Israel." 05:44 Again, I need somebody to get that the purge is not punishment. He is trying to preserve what's left 05:50 because the purge is the guarantee that somebody makes it into the promised land. 05:59 [ Congregation: Amen. Clapping] 06:01 See, friends, I need you to get that every portion of this judgment has meaning 06:06 and significance so that when we read earlier what God says, I'm going to cut the line off at twenty. 06:12 He says these kids that you are worried about, that you said I was going to let die in the wilderness, 06:18 I'm going to take them into the land that you have rejected, and the wondering is going to be for forty years, 06:25 a year for every day that you spent doubting the Lord while you were spying out the land. Are you all hearing me today, 06:35 friends? 06:36 Now, on the surface reading of the text, it actually looks like a judgment against old people, 06:45 but that's not what it is. The cut off line is twenty, which means 21-year-olds and 25-year-olds 06:54 and 27-year-olds and 30 years old folk, my age didn't get to make it into the promised land. 07:00 See, God says, listen, listen, the way I know it's not about age is he says, I'm going to take Joshua, 07:07 I'm going to take Caleb, even though they're past that line because they have a different spirit in them. 07:16 See, the reason some did not get in, beloved, it is not because of how old they were, it's because of how they think. 07:27 In other words, what God is saying, there is a mentality in Israel I've got to let die. 07:33 There is a disposition in the church that has to perish. There is some energy that's got a fall in the wilderness, 07:42 there is an attitude that I cannot let get into Canaan. 07:49 [ Congregation: Amen] 07:51 See, friends of mine, I need you to get this, as bad as God wanted to take Israel into the promised land, 07:57 He literally is observing that not only have they been in Egypt. The problem at this point is that Egypt is inside of them. 08:07 [ Congregation: Amen] 08:09 See, there's a reason that he cannot take them in this spiritual state over into the land of Canaan 08:15 because Egypt is in them. If they put them in Canaan, all they're going to do is rebuild Egypt in Canaan. 08:23 They're going to build Egyptian temples and Egyptian idols, there will be golden calves all over the new land. 08:31 In other words, if he takes them into the promised land, the new promised land is going to be just like the old cursed land. 08:39 Friends of mine, this is why as bad as God wants to save everybody, He can't take unconverted folk. 08:52 Oh, you're all mighty quiet today? He can't take unconverted folk into the new Jerusalem. 08:58 He can't take unconverted folk into the Earth made new because if He takes unconverted folk into the earth made new, 09:06 the new Earth is going to look just like this old earth, because if he lets those that have an untransformed character, 09:16 can you imagine being in the earth made new and somebody's out there stealing the golden blocks out of the concrete in your 09:23 driveway? 09:24 [ Congregation: Clapping] 09:26 Are you hearing what I'm saying? As much as I spend, I don't spend very much time talking about hell. 09:33 Ain't talking has been a whole lot of time talking about fire and brimstone. Why? Because I ain't going. 09:40 [ Congregation: Clapping] 09:43 The one thing about hell is that hell is the guarantee that affliction shall not rise a second time. 09:52 It is the guarantee that life's trouble will one day come to an end. You realize that when Jesus comes again, 10:01 the reason some will not rise is not because Jesus has a problem with gravity, some are literally bolted to the Earth 10:13 because that's where their affections are. This life is going to be an anchor that keeps some nailed to a perishing world. 10:29 There is a purge coming for the house of God. 10:37 See, what he's going to do, church? He's going to purge everybody that doesn't have the spirit of Caleb. 10:46 The spirit of Caleb, my friends, is the ability to see where God is moving in the present. 10:58 It looks like he's purging a certain age. No, he's not cutting off just a certain age, he's cutting out a certain spirit. 11:06 He's cutting out a certain energy. He's cutting out those that are obstacles to progress. 11:12 He's cutting out those who are so set in their ways. He's cutting out those that are always glorifying the past. 11:19 He's cutting out those who are willing to go back to Egypt. 11:22 He is cutting out those that are like a rigid and dry set of wineskins that is not compatible with the potency 11:32 and the energy and the life of the new wine. In other words, 11:36 he's got to destroy everyone that can't see where God is moving right now. 11:43 [ Congregation: Amen. Clapping] 11:45 Before Christ comes, there's going to be a purge in the church. It's funny some of you are going to get mad, 11:50 "We thought God was going to purge those that wore lipstick, we thought God was going to purge those that went to the movies, 11:57 we thought God was going to purge those that ate cheese, we thought God was going to purge those that drink caffeine," 12:03 but who he's gone purge are those who are so stuck in the past that they can't recognize God's power in the present. 12:13 He's going to purge out those that are glorifying how the church was and they can't see where God is leading it right now. 12:23 [ Congregation: Amen. Clapping] 12:27 It's why there are some in churches that don't have 7 members that will literally let their church die 12:36 before they embrace a drum or an organ or something that's going to bring life and vitality to the church. 12:43 There are churches, friends of mine, where I go and there ain't nothing but 80-year-olds and small children. 12:50 The old folk are there because they ain't got nowhere else to go, and the kids are there 12:55 because they have to be there at somebody else's will. Are you all hearing what I'm saying there today, friends? 13:01 Old school, where we disfellowship the girls that got pregnant, and the boys that got them pregnant 13:12 became junior deacons and junior elders and junior ushers. That's old school. 13:18 [ Congregation: Cheering] 13:20 Old school says we can't have women elders as pastors, but you can have a male elder that's been married twenty-seven times. 13:28 As long as he's a man and pays tithe, he's in good and regular standing. 13:35 Old school, you get condemned by whether or not you eat chicken, 13:40 but the Bible says it's not what goes in the belly that defiles, it's what comes out of the mouth that defiles. 13:48 [ Congregation: Amen] 13:50 Are you all hearing what I'm saying? God is saying some of that junk got to die in the wilderness. 14:02 We divide these stupid camps in the church, old school versus new school, 14:08 and we debate like Republicans who are conservative and don't want nothing to change. 14:13 Then some are like Democrats, they throw all the standards out of the church. 14:17 Some say, "Pastor, you're right there in the middle." That isn't my goal. My goal is not to be conservative or liberal, 14:24 not to be old school or new school, my goal is to walk in the counsel of the scriptures. 14:30 When you walk in the word, new school's going to get mad, old school's going to get mad 14:35 because the Bible doesn't agree with you. You've got to align yourself with the word of God. 14:43 Are you all hearing what I'm saying today? 14:46 [ Congregation: Clapping] 14:52 What I'm saying, friends, as we come out of this pandemic, guess what? Church is supposed to look a little bit different. 14:58 Guess what? As we reform the church, Sabbath school ought to look a little different. AYS ought to look a little different. 15:05 The music ought to look a little different. Guess what? The ushers ought to look a little different. 15:10 Why are we always trying to relive and revise history? Because we're afraid of the future. 15:17 See, be careful how you revise stuff. It's just kind of like when Donald Trump came out with that slogan, 15:24 Make America Great Again. There was a visceral reaction from some of us because we're like, 15:33 "Who's America you're talking about?" 15:35 [ Congregation: Amen] 15:37 We ain't trying to go back to that. So when you're all talking about making Adventism great again, 15:42 there's a certain generation that's like, "Oh no, I know what God has brought me out of and we ain't going back." 15:53 [ Congregation: Clapping] 16:00 See, Germany, this the problem. See, the only thing we want old school is the liturgy. 16:10 Where's the old-school work ethic? Where's the old-school service ethic? Where's the old-school prayer ethic? 16:18 You're all going to get quiet on me in here today. See, where's that church that used to go door-to-door 16:25 and house-to-house and knock on doors and tell your neighbor about your faith. When did evangelism become the pastor's job? 16:34 It's supposed to be the members' job. Each one is supposed to reach one. We want our hymns. 16:43 Where's the prayer ethic? We opened up the church on Wednesday night, where are you at old school? 16:51 If I call for a concert, we have to wrap cars around the parking lot, but when I call you to pray, 16:59 where's the old-school work ethic. If I call the church cleanup tomorrow morning, it will be me and Malcolm, my wife. 17:11 When she's out of town, I'll be by myself in this joint tomorrow. 17:15 See, we want to hold on to the things that are not consequential eternally, 17:25 but the work ethic, the prayer ethic, the spiritual ethic, the commitment to making sure our young people got to Federation 17:34 and Congress and sabbath-school. Where are my old school parents at? Who said, "You're all got to get up early." 17:41 I got to stay late. I got to drive him out of town. I'm not just going to send them to church, 17:46 I'm going to lead them into the house of God?" 17:50 [ Congregation: Clapping] 17:54 The only thing we want is our liturgical preferences. Where are my old-school deacons at? 18:04 That came to church even on the Sabbath they didn't have to serve? 18:11 See, the problem is we got too many contractors in church. Elders that only come when they own the program. 18:20 Musicians that only worship when they're on this stage, but they're in the hallway the rest of the time. 18:26 We got too many contractors! 18:29 [ Congregation: Clapping] 18:32 Are you all hearing what I'm saying, today? 18:34 [ Congregation: Yes] 18:36 We need committed sons and daughters of God who are about that ministry life where you serve outside of the eleven o'clock 18:45 hour. God says I'm going to have to purge the house of God. See, we would call this an old school. 18:58 There's going to be a shaking before Jesus comes, where God says, 19:04 "I'm going to sift the house of Israel so that I can separate the wheat from the chaff." 19:16 What I'm saying, friends of mine, is we got to get to a place where we drag the things from the past that matter the most. 19:24 Heart for service, heart for prayer, heart for ministry. 19:27 I'm talking about the warm-blooded culture of the church where I was not in good and regular standing just 19:34 because I sent my tithe. You're in good and regular standing when you serve. 19:38 [ Congregation: Amen] 19:42 I'm ashamed that I even had to make an announcement to get more volunteers for the kids program because we can't be bothered. 19:53 "Oh, COVID, COVID." 19:58 [ Congregation: Laughing] 20:00 No, I'm friends with you on Facebook. 20:02 [ Congregation: Yeah] 20:04 I just saw you at the restaurant, at the game, out of the country, at the concert, in the flippin club. 20:13 Are you all hearing what I'm saying? COVID. The only thing COVID has stopped us from doing is serving the Lord. 20:29 There is going to be a shaking. Matter of fact, it's already happening that some are being slowly shaking out 20:38 because you ain't got no root in nothing. 20:42 [ Congregation: Talking Indistinctly] 20:51 I need to talk to some of my young adults. See, you don't realize, 20:54 you're being shaken out and you allow yourself to go justified in the name of church hurt. 21:00 Let me say it right because some of us have suffered real offense for which the leadership of the church owes you an apology. 21:11 That's not what I'm talking about. 21:13 If every time somebody didn't speak to you or somebody said the wrong thing to you or somebody asks you where you've been, 21:18 if that's going to run you out of the church, you ain't have nothing to stand on in the first place. 21:24 [ Congregation: Clapping] 21:28 That's why Paul said to Timothy, "You got to endure hardship like a good soldier. 21:34 That's what John the book of Revelation, let no man steal your crown. I'm just out of place, friends. 21:46 You can go, you can leave. You all can leave, but on Christ the solid rock, I stand. All other ground is sinking sand, 21:58 I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but I wholly lean on Jesus' name. 22:06 [ Congregation: Amen] 22:09 I want to say to the mature in faith, when somebody's talking about why they don't come to church 22:13 because somebody didn't speak to them or somebody did them wrong or somebody hurt them, 22:16 you know what I need you to stop doing? I need you to stop babying them. 22:20 [ Congregation: Amen] 22:21 I need you to stop impaneling that and say at some point, "You got to grow up in the faith." 22:34 You know why the church is going to always be an imperfect place? It's because God lets everybody in. 22:45 [ Congregation: Amen. Clapping] 22:48 We don't check medical records. We don't check your credit score. We don't check your transcript. 22:54 We don't check your resume. The invitation is whosoever will, let him come into the house of the Lord. 23:04 You can't shout over a God who accepts broken people and get mad when you have to worship with broken people. 23:15 [ Congregation: Clapping] 23:20 Young people, I need you to hear me on this. I'm almost done. God, before Jesus comes, 23:26 He's going to take you through some purging. 23:29 There's some people God needs to pull from your life to ensure you make it to the promised land. 23:40 Some of you all got some anchors that are going to fasten you to Egypt so that you can't get into Canaan. 23:49 There's some ways God purges you. One of the ways God purges you is through rejection. 23:58 [ Congregation: Talking Indistinctly] 24:00 Okay. I will shout all by myself on this joint. 24:04 See, the problem is you thought rejection was about what was wrong with you, 24:12 when you didn't realize that God was just preserving you from somebody that was going to keep you anchored outside of the 24:19 promised land. See, there were certain folk that God knew you wouldn't say no to them so God forced them to say no to you. 24:30 [ Congregation: Amen. Clapping] 24:32 See, I'm at a place where I'm old enough to say, Lord, I thank you for every click that won't let me in. 24:39 I thank you for every girl that wouldn't go out with me. I thank you for those that didn't want to be down with me 24:46 because I understand that sometimes, rejection is just redirection. It is God leading you to what he has for you. 24:59 [ Congregation: Amen. Clapping] 25:03 Sometimes, God purges you through rejection. Sometimes, God purges you through revelation. 25:11 What do you mean when you say that, Pastor? See, sometimes, when somebody shows their behind, 25:22 I know where I'm at, we get mad when they show themselves, but see, when you get to a certain place, 25:30 you don't get mad when they show you who they are. I'm just glad that God made the serpent show his fangs. 25:38 I'm just glad I learned in enough time to make a detour? See, don't get mad when they betray you, when they walk out on you, 25:51 when they stab you in the front, when they stab you in the back, 25:55 it was just God keeping you from going too far down that line and getting committed with somebody that meant you no good. 26:07 Sometimes, God purges you through a friendship drift. Yall didn't fallout, you all ain't got no beef with each other. 26:22 Ain't nobody doing nothing wrong to each other. You all just came back from the summer and you all just went tight no more. 26:30 And you didn't realize the invisible hand of God was just pushing them in a different direction and pushing you down the 26:40 straight and narrow way that leadeth unto life. 26:45 [ Congregation: Clapping] 26:46 Are you all hearing what I'm saying today, friends? A purge is not punishment, 26:54 it is simply God ridding your life of every influence 26:59 and everything that's going to have you fastened to the outskirts of Canaan. 27:06 There's some of us that don't even realize what God is doing, and we're complaining about how it's going. 27:12 I realize that a purge is not punishment. I thank God for the purging times in my life. See, purging is a form of deliverance. 27:22 It is how he looses the sons and daughters of God. 27:26 It is how he readies the church to fulfill its ultimate mission of reaching lost men 27:32 and women with the good news of Jesus Christ. 27:36 Hi. I'm Debleaire Snell. Have you ever been in a place where as soon as you start believing big, praying big and thinking big, 27:46 someone told you that you need to be more realistic. It was unrealistic for Jesus to say, I'm going to lay down my life 27:54 and in three days I'm going to pick it up again. I would encourage you to put down your commonly held beliefs. 28:00 And it's time for us to get unrealistic. 28:08 (Breath of Life Theme Music) 28:35 [END] |
