00:05 #S052 - “That's A Good Offer” (Part 1)
00:20 We're going to continue in our series 00:22 today entitled All the Way In 00:25 and what We've Been talking about for the last few weeks is 00:28 we don't want to be most of the way in. 00:30 We don't want to be part of the way in. 00:33 Are you with the past? 00:34 We want to be all the way in with Jesus today. 00:37 Amen. 00:38 And so I'm going to have you look a couple of places 00:40 with me in the scripture, and then we'll settle ultimately 00:43 in Mark Chapter ten. 00:45 So let's begin and James chapter one and verse 00:48 17 over there toward the end of the New Testament 00:52 Book of James chapter one and verse 17. 00:56 When you get there, let me hear you say Amen. 00:59 The Book of James chapter one 01:02 and verse 17. 01:05 And then we're going to slip over to the Book of Deuteronomy. 01:09 Then we'll stop back by Matthew, and then we'll settle in. Mark 01:13 James. Chapter one, verse 17. 01:14 When you pass from here, the Bible says this that 01:19 every good and every perfect 01:22 gift is from above 01:25 and comes down from the father of lights 01:28 with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 01:32 Now you don't mind going to do it around me? 01:34 Chapter eight. 01:35 That is over there in the Old Testament. 01:37 Deuteronomy Chapter eight. 01:39 And I want us to look together at verse 18. 01:42 Now, again, I'm having 01:42 you read these things for a purpose, 01:44 because it creates a framework 01:46 for some of the things we'll teach on today. 01:48 Deuteronomy chapter eight and verse number 18. 01:50 When you get there, say, Pastor, I'm ready. 01:54 Deuteronomy chapter eight and verse 18, 01:56 we learned that every good and perfect gift comes from above. 01:59 Then Deuteronomy eight, verse 18, says, And you shall remember 02:03 the Lord your God, for it is He who gives power to get 02:07 what to get well, that he may establish his covenant, 02:11 which he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. 02:14 So we know that every good and perfect gift comes from above, 02:18 and it is God that gives us power to get what wealth? 02:23 Now go with me to Matthew, chapter six. 02:26 Matthew Chapter six. 02:28 And we will look together at verse number 25. 02:32 Matthew, chapter six and verse 25. 02:36 When you get there, just say amen for me. 02:40 Matthew six And verse 25, 02:46 Jesus speaking says this. 02:49 Therefore, I say to you, Do not worry about your life, 02:55 what you eat 02:57 or what you will drink, nor about your body. 03:00 What you will put on 03:02 is not life more than food in the body, more than clothing. 03:05 Look at the birds of the air, 03:08 for they need to sow nor reap, nor gather into barns. 03:11 Yet your Heavenly Father feeds them, and he says, 03:15 Are you not much more valuable than they are? 03:20 And so go with me. 03:20 Lastly to the Book of Mark Chapter ten, 03:23 which is where we will settle semantically Matthew Mark 03:26 Chapter ten, Mark Chapter team and verse 17. 03:31 When you get there, say, 03:33 I'm ready for it, 03:35 Mark. 03:36 Chapter ten and we're going to look together. 03:38 Adverse 17. 03:41 All right. 03:42 And I just need to know real quickly by show of hands, 03:43 who needs a word from the Lord today? 03:45 I just didn't know where to aim it. Amen. 03:47 I want to I'm going to aim 03:48 it away from those who just came to church. 03:51 I want to aim 03:52 it at those who need a word from the Lord today. 03:55 Mark 17. 03:56 In verse 17, a very familiar text to many of us today. 03:59 The word says now, as he was going out on the road, 04:04 one man came running, 04:06 knelt before him and asked him, 04:10 Good teacher, what shall I do 04:13 that I may inherit eternal life? 04:16 So Jesus said unto him, Why do you call me? 04:22 Good. 04:23 No one is good, but one that is God. 04:26 You know the commandments do not commit adultery, 04:30 do not murder, do not steal, do not bear false witness. 04:35 Do not defraud. 04:36 Honor your father and your mother. 04:39 And he answered and said to him, Teacher, 04:41 all of these things I have kept from my youth 04:45 when Jesus looking at him, loved Him 04:48 and said to him, One thing you lack go your way. 04:53 Sell whatever you have and give it to the poor 04:59 and you will have treasure in heaven. 05:02 Come take up your cross and follow me. 05:07 But he was sad at this word, 05:11 and he went away sorrowful 05:14 because he had great possessions. 05:18 Today, saints for a little while, 05:20 with your praise and God's help, I want to talk under 05:22 the subject. 05:24 That was a good offer. 05:29 That was a good offer. 05:30 Let's pray together. 05:33 Holy Spirit, 05:35 we prayed that you would allow your presence 05:38 to settle upon this service. 05:41 And five of my prayer today 05:43 is that you would give me strength to preach the word, 05:47 but Lord would you give the body the faith 05:49 to hear and act on your word? 05:53 Father, we realize that we are closer 05:55 to your return than we have ever been. 05:59 And, Lord, we don't want to allow 06:01 a single thing to stand between our souls and our Savior. 06:07 So, Lord, I prayed that 06:08 you would hide me in the shadows of the cross, that Jesus alone 06:11 might be seen, that Christ alone would be heard. 06:15 And at the end of our time 06:16 together, may Jesus alone be praised. 06:19 Bless us. 06:19 To this end, 06:20 we ask in the name of him who is altogether lovely. 06:23 It is in the name of Jesus that we pray. 06:25 Let those who believe say together. 06:27 Amen. 06:29 And a man. 06:29 You may be seated 06:30 in the House of the Lord again talking on the subject today. 06:33 That's a good offer. 06:37 Good off. 06:46 You know, friends, our text today 06:49 is filled with essential truth for the soul. 06:53 And the first thing this teaches us, Beloved, 06:57 is that our greatest needs are not financial, 07:01 our physical, but our greatest needs are spiritual. 07:07 Here we find Jesus concluding a time 07:10 where He blessed the children by laying hands on them, 07:14 and he's preparing to leave the region of Judea. 07:18 And though 07:18 the story of the rich, 07:19 young ruler does not have a happy ending, 07:22 there are some traits about him, I believe, to be noteworthy. 07:27 You see, the gravity of his need is seen 07:30 and the desperation of his approach. 07:33 In fact, the words say his friends, that he would not 07:35 even allow Jesus to leave town. 07:38 But he runs him down on foot. 07:41 Falls on his face. 07:43 Before Christ and makes his request known for eternal life. 07:48 Now, this scene would be 07:49 a spectacle to most, because as a wealthy person 07:53 he is perhaps used to traveling by Chariot. 07:56 But this day he dismounts and comes to Jesus on foot. 08:01 As a ruler, he's used to being. 08:03 Accompanied. By security. 08:05 But at this time, he outruns his convoy 08:09 and beats them to see Jesus. 08:11 And this man as a. 08:13 Ruler, is used to summoning people to come to him. 08:17 But this man doesn't send anybody to see Jesus. 08:20 He goes to see Jesus for himself and needs no friends 08:24 that He does not come to Jesus with a display of show or power. 08:29 He does not approach Christ with self-importance or titles. 08:33 He does not come to Jesus clad with hubris. 08:37 But there is a soul desperation 08:40 that drives him to Christ to seek eternal life. 08:44 Now, I need you to get friends that this would not be awkward 08:47 if there was a physical illness that drove him to Jesus. 08:52 In fact, we're used to seeing people like Blind Body 08:55 Mass make a scene to cry out for physical healing. 08:59 We understand why the woman with the issue of blood 09:03 would make a spectacle 09:04 to get healing for her 12 years of illness. 09:08 We know why lepers would swallow their pride and burst 09:12 through the crowd to see Jesus. 09:14 We understand why the sick and the crippled and the cancer 09:19 would go great distances to get their needs met by Jesus. 09:24 But there is something 09:25 altogether different that drives this man because 09:29 from an earthly standpoint, he has everything that he needs. 09:33 The Bible says he is young 09:35 so that we can presume that he has his help. 09:38 We know that he is rich for the Bible. 09:41 Says he has great possessions. 09:43 We know that he is a ruler, a man and great authority. 09:47 And yet his soul desperation drives him to Jesus 09:51 in such a way that he's temporarily concluded 09:55 that my everything without Jesus is nothing. 10:01 And what he's showing us today, friends, 10:03 that our greatest need is not physical. 10:06 Our greatest needs are not financial. 10:09 Our greatest needs are not relational. 10:12 I need you to get church that our greatest needs 10:15 are spiritual. 10:17 And see, the problem, friends, is that sometimes it is 10:21 only physical circumstance 10:24 that creates spiritual urgency. 10:27 And I don't want to stay here long, but I. 10:29 Need to. 10:29 Say this to the church, 10:31 that we ought to spend more time praying about the internal 10:35 than we do praying about the external. 10:37 Let me say it again 10:39 that we ought to spend less time praying about the external 10:42 and more time praying about the internal. 10:45 In other words, we pray hard about physical sickness. 10:49 We pray hard about financial sick ness. 10:53 We pray hard about marital sickness. 10:56 We pray hard about relational sickness. 10:59 And the problem is this 11:01 is that circumstantial sickness we take to the emergency room, 11:06 but spiritual sickness we treat with. 11:08 Tylenol, your act and. 11:09 Brand new, 11:10 and others who are certain stance of sickness 11:13 we address right away. But we get to 11:15 that spiritual illness whenever we get to it. 11:18 And what I'm saying to somebody today 11:20 is that you've missed the point. 11:23 If you spent more time 11:24 praying about your arthritis, then your attitude, 11:28 you should not be 11:29 praying more about your enemies than your ego. 11:33 You should not be worried about being financially cleared 11:37 if you're not spiritually cleared. 11:39 You shouldn't be praying more about a house than holiness. 11:43 You ought not be praying more about rent than your readiness. 11:47 You ought not be praying about a career and not character. 11:51 You ought to spend more time 11:52 praying about the 11:53 growth of your faith then the growth of your finances. 11:57 And this is the key church. 11:59 The problem is that we pray about those things. 12:03 The problem is that we pray from the outside in 12:07 when we ought to be praying from the inside out. 12:11 See how many of us know that your prayers ought 12:13 to be like an oven, not a microwave. 12:17 You see a microwave cook from the outside. 12:20 But guess what? 12:21 The outside will look done and moist. 12:23 But the inside will be cold and hard. 12:26 But your prayers ought to be like a conventional oven 12:29 where, man, the work is done on the inside. 12:33 And the last thing to be completed is the outside. 12:37 And see, the problem is that when the inside, outside 12:40 get first things first, then we cease to pray about the inside. 12:44 Y'all hear me today? 12:45 And see, the thing I need you to get 12:47 is that the issue is how we in the order. 12:50 Because when you have internal growth, 12:53 I need you to know that the external is going to follow. 12:56 In other words, when your faith grows, guess what? 13:00 Your finances will grow. 13:02 When you deal with your ego. 13:04 Guess what? 13:06 Your enemies begin to decrease when you address your attitude. 13:10 Guess what? 13:10 Your marriage 13:11 is going to get better when you address your character. 13:15 Yes. What? God is going to bless your career. 13:17 You are hearing me today saying 13:19 and what I'm saying is that we can't focus on the surface. 13:23 We got to do a work beneath the surface. 13:26 Let me say it this way. 13:27 I remember 13:28 growing up in high school, Malcolm, I work at Florida 13:31 State University in the dorms, painting and doing odd jobs. 13:35 And so we would paint the doors from one color to the next. 13:38 And there were times where we would be lazy 13:40 and we would try to paint over the yellow and paint it white. 13:44 But once it began to dry. 13:46 What happened is the old color would begin to bleed through. 13:50 And what we learned 13:51 is that we had to put this thing called primer. 13:54 We had to put Primer on it that kind of covered 13:57 what was underneath 13:59 so that what was on the top would never be wasted. 14:03 And what I'm saying is 14:04 that you've got to prime your inside in prayer. 14:08 Don't just try to cover it with the external. 14:11 You've got to have something that's 14:12 going to bless the internal. 14:15 And so I need you to get this friends, 14:17 because the rich, young ruler has everything that is external, 14:22 but he is missing the internal. 14:25 And I need you to know that it is internal lack 14:28 that ultimately drives him to Jesus Christ. 14:33 And beloved. 14:34 This is an epic theme for our consideration, 14:35 because what he's showing is that if you have the external, 14:40 you can't be content if you don't have the internal. 14:43 But guess what? 14:44 If you've got internal wholeness, guess what? 14:47 You can be content without some of the outside stuff. 14:52 And seem to love it. 14:53 The reason that you've got to focus more on the internal 14:57 is how many of us know that every external problem 15:02 is going to be canceled by the second coming of Jesus 15:07 I need you to know that every external problem 15:10 is going to be canceled, 15:12 but unaddressed 15:13 internal problems are going to become permanent. 15:16 Oh yeah, I hear me. 15:18 I need you to know that the coming of Christ 15:20 is going to cancel every physical problem. 15:23 The coming of Christ 15:25 is going to cancel every political problem. 15:27 The coming of Christ is going to cancel every racial problem. 15:31 The coming of Christ is going to cancel every sickness problem. 15:35 The coming of Christ is going to cancel every 15:39 relational problem. 15:40 Is there anybody excited that when Jesus comes, 15:43 he's going to cancel every external problem of life? 15:50 But the reason you've got to focus 15:52 on the internal is how many of us know 15:55 that the only thing that's going to make the trip from Earth 16:01 to Glory 16:02 is a character that is complete. 16:05 We all know that today. Church. 16:07 In other words, it is not until the character is complete 16:10 that is going to make the transition from Earth to glory. 16:13 Is there anybody that knows 16:15 the car ain't going to make it to glory? 16:17 That that's old house is not going to make it to glory. 16:20 So degrees are not going to make it to glory. 16:23 It is only a completed character that's going to make the trip. 16:27 And so I can't spend my time worrying about the outward 16:31 trophies of life. 16:32 I've got to make sure that my soul 16:37 is right with God. 16:38 Okay. 16:39 I remember probably about four 16:41 or five years ago, maybe about seven years ago. 16:43 I remember I was in. 16:44 Need of a new iPhone. 16:46 And so, man, I go into the Apple store 16:48 because my phone had been dropped. 16:50 It had been cracked and it had 16:53 brakes all in the phone. 16:55 And so when I went in, I was nervous 16:57 that I was going to lose the life of the entire phone. 17:00 I didn't want to lose all my notes and all my numbers 17:03 and all my data. 17:04 And so I was like, Please, can you say 17:07 the information on the phone? 17:09 And she said, Mrs. 17:10 Snell, you're worried about the wrong thing. 17:12 She says, on the inside of the phone is a sim card. 17:16 And she says the SIM card is the life of the phone. 17:20 And so as long as the SIM card is good, 17:24 we're going to put the SIM card in a new phone body. 17:27 And once the SIM card got in a new phone. 17:30 Guess what? 17:31 It picked up right where it left off. 17:34 And what I'm saying is that the cell, 17:36 the soul is the SIM card of the body. 17:40 And as long as you got a good. 17:42 So when Jesus comes, he's going to give you a new body. 17:47 And if you went down praising, guess what? 17:51 You go wake up praising. 17:53 If you went down serving, you're going to wake up surfing 17:57 because you just go continue where 18:00 you left off with a new body. 18:05 Untouched by the curse. 18:06 Y'all hear me today, friends? 18:09 So the first thing we learn from story today, friends of mine, 18:12 is that we got to get to a place where we realize that, man, 18:16 our greatest issue is spiritual. 18:19 But the second thing this teaches us, friends. 18:22 Is that eternal life 18:25 starts now. 18:31 See, the Bible 18:33 says that man, this ruler, he's so serious about this thing, 18:38 he ain't even letting Jesus 18:39 get to the outskirts of the border of time. 18:41 Bible says that he gets down 18:43 on his knees and his time forward. Road 18:47 scoffs up his Air Jordans sandals, 18:51 and he begins to cry out in front of everybody. 18:54 Master, can you show me how to inherit eternal life? 19:01 Now the word that he used to inherit 19:03 eternal life is very intentional. 19:06 Because how many of us realize that when you inherit something, 19:10 the gift is not reserved for when you die. 19:14 When you 19:15 inherit it, you walk in it while you live. 19:18 And so he's asking God 19:20 how to inherit eternal life because he knows 19:24 that eternal life doesn't start while he dies. 19:27 But he wants an eternal life that he can walk in while 19:31 he is still living. O 19:35 You see, he's 19:36 not just saying to Jesus, Y'all with me church. 19:39 He's not just saying, I want to go to heaven. 19:45 He's not just saying I want to live in a mansion 19:48 because the word eternal life comes from the Greek word r. 19:53 He knows, which literally means ageless life. 19:56 It means continued life. 19:59 It means a life that outlives 20:02 time. 20:06 So he's not just saying things. 20:07 I want to live a long time. 20:10 He's saying, I want to change life, man. 20:14 In other words, friends, eternal life is a life 20:18 so joyous that you want it to last forever. 20:24 Oh, God. 20:26 Eternal life is a life that is so joyous. 20:30 Then I don't want it to ever end y'all with me today. 20:34 In other words, 20:35 he doesn't ask for a mansion cos he's already got a mate. 20:39 He is not asking to rule because he's already a ruler. 20:43 He is not asking to be free from sickness because he already 20:46 probably has his health. 20:48 In other words, his request 20:50 does not have anything to do with length of days. 20:54 It has to do with the quality of life he's living. 20:59 You see, for most of us. 21:00 We believe that. 21:02 That eternal life begins at the second coming. 21:05 When we are raised our translated. 21:08 But I need you to know 21:09 that eternal life does not begin at the second coming. 21:13 It continues 21:17 at the second coming. 21:19 In other words, it just outlives time. 21:22 You'll hear me today. 21:23 Eternal life is not just prolonged life. 21:27 Eternal life is a blessed life 21:29 that is so filled with joy that I never wanted to see. 21:34 In other words, eternal life doesn't begin 21:37 when my body gets to heaven. 21:40 The eternal life begins. 21:42 When heaven gets in my body. 21:45 Ooh, no, no, no. 21:47 Eternal life doesn't begin when my body feels heaven. 21:51 Eternal life happens when heaven fills up this body. 21:55 You see, his request, friends of mine, 21:58 is not just for Jesus to change his life. 22:01 When he comes again, 22:04 he's saying, Jesus, I need you to change my life right now. 22:10 He's saying, I want heaven internally, 22:14 and when I get it internally, I long for it permanently. 22:20 You see, the problem with most of us 22:22 is that heaven has to do with place met, 22:27 but heaven doesn't have to do with placement. 22:29 Heaven has to do with posture. 22:33 Y'all not with me today. 22:35 See how many of us know that we're not just waiting on 22:39 Jesus to come and rescue us. 22:42 If you've already been converted, 22:45 you've already received the rescue of Christ. 22:49 And He simply brings the body 22:51 where the mind and the affections already are. 22:55 You see, when Christ comes, all He's going to do 22:58 is remove mortality and corruption. 23:03 See, that's why you've got to have eternity now, because, see, 23:06 some of us are waiting to get to heaven in order to be happy. 23:12 But how many of us know if you ain't got no happiness 23:14 now, then you won't be happy in heaven. 23:18 All that if you ain't got no joy. 23:21 Now, then guess what? 23:22 You won't be joyful in heaven. 23:24 If you don't have peace now, 23:26 then you won't be peaceful in heaven. 23:28 In other words, heaven is not a change of disposition. 23:31 It is not a change of attitude. 23:34 It is simply an 23:35 removal of those things that add curse to the life 23:41 I got here to me. 23:41 Today, friends. 23:43 And this is why you've got to have a. 23:45 Living. Connection with Jesus Christ. 23:47 Because how many of us know that Jesus didn't. 23:49 Espouse. For us? 23:51 Just wait till we get to heaven. 23:54 Jesus taught us that we ought to have 23:55 a little heaven right now. 23:58 Did not 24:00 Jesus say, I'm going to give you the keys to the kingdom? 24:03 Did he not literally say to his disciples that whatever 24:06 you bind on earth is going to be bound in heaven, that 24:10 whatever you loose on Earth is going to be loosed in heaven? 24:15 Did he not teach us to pray? 24:17 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth 24:21 as it is in heaven. 24:23 In other words, we are to have some of the joys 24:27 of heaven, even in the perils of this earth. 24:31 Stop walking around talking about 24:33 when I'm getting to heaven. I'm going really south. 24:37 No, I'm going to rehearse down here. 24:40 I'm going to practice down here 24:44 for what's going to happen when we get there 24:50 and see friends. 24:50 There are three forms. 24:52 Of heaven that I believe that we ought to experience. 24:55 Even while we're here on this earth. 24:56 You see, friends of my, I believe, number one, 24:58 that you ought to have the peace of heaven. 25:03 Oh, God, my feet are on fire right now. 25:06 We ought to have the peace of heaven now. 25:08 So that means you get that heaven is a place, 25:10 a place of perfect peace and tranquility. 25:15 It is a place where ain't nobody anxious and worried 25:18 and overwhelmed 25:20 because they know that the father 25:21 governs all things that pertain unto them. 25:25 And I believe that we ought to have some of the peace 25:28 of heaven in the present. 25:32 Now, the reason some of us are looking at me 25:34 funny is because we still see peace as 25:37 the absence of problems. 25:42 Peace is not the absence of problems. 25:45 It is God's calm in the midst of whatever 25:49 uncertainty that you face or deal with in life. 25:53 Are not my friend. 25:54 You hear me today? 25:56 So see how many of. 25:57 Us believe that Jesus is real? 26:04 Now I'm going to test that, 26:06 because if Jesus is real, He never gives us a command 26:11 that's unattainable. 26:15 If He's real and his word is true, there is nothing 26:20 he says that cannot be lived out on this earth. 26:24 So he says to us, Don't worry. 26:30 He says, Don't worry about your life. 26:33 Don't worry about your body. 26:36 Don't worry about what 26:37 your where he says, pagans chase after these things. 26:42 And if God say it, don't worry. 26:45 That must mean that there is agency on earth. Oh, 26:51 see, the 26:52 problem is, we feel obligated to worry. 26:55 We feel more obligated to worry than we do to faith. 26:59 We feel like worry is a necessity. 27:02 We feel like it is an impossibility. 27:04 But if Christ said it, it must be attainable 27:07 for every son and daughter of the most high God. 27:10 And the reason he says not to worry like the pagans, 27:14 he says, Your father knows 27:18 what things you have need of. 27:22 Are y'all hear me today, friends. 27:24 Thanks so much for joining us for the Breath of Life 27:27 Television Ministries Broadcast with Pastor Debleaire Snell. 27:31 We hope and pray 27:32 that you have been blessed by his powerful message. 27:35 Join us next week for part two of “That Good Offer”. 27:40 You don't want to miss it. 28:05 Breath Of Life Music 28:25 [END] |
