00:03 #S055 - One Day At A Time (Part 1)
00:19 Are we ready for the word today? 00:21 So to me, if I stand to your feet 00:23 as we get ready to go into the scriptures this afternoon, 00:28 so I'm going to go to places in the word. 00:29 We're going to begin at Rome 00:31 at Romans, chapter 15 and verse number four. 00:35 And if you don't mind, 00:36 put your finger over in Exodus Chapter 16. 00:41 Romans Chapter 15, and verse number four. 00:46 When you get there, let me just say, Pastor, I'm ready. 00:51 ROMANS Chapter 15 and verse number four. 00:56 And let me ask you this. 00:57 How many of us have a need that only God can supply? 01:04 Anybody else 01:05 I want to preach? 01:06 Anybody that's kind of worried, 01:09 preoccupied, anxious about provision. 01:13 I need somebody to be reminded and to leave. 01:15 Convince that your God knows your need. 01:21 Your need is on his agenda and it will be meted out in time. 01:27 Are you all with the pastor today? 01:28 Romans 15 and verse four. 01:29 And then I want you to put your finger up and exit 16 again. 01:33 Romans 13 In verse four, Paul says this For whatever 01:36 things were written before, were written for our were what? 01:43 Learning that we through the patience 01:46 and comfort of the scriptures might have. 01:50 What that we might have hope. 01:53 Now go with me 01:54 over back to the Old Testament, Exodus Chapter 16, 01:58 and we will begin together at verse number one. 02:01 Exodus 16 in verse 1/2 book of the Bible. 02:06 Exodus 16 and verse number one. 02:08 When you get there, you say, Pastor, I'm ready. 02:11 Exodus 16 In verse one, 02:14 the Bible says, and they journeyed from Elam 02:18 and all the congregation 02:19 of the Children of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, 02:24 which is between Elam and Sinai on the 15th day 02:28 of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt. 02:32 Then the whole congregation of the children 02:34 of Israel complained 02:36 against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness, 02:39 and the children of Israel said to them 02:41 all that we had died 02:43 by the hand of the Lord, in the land of what? 02:46 When we had set by the pots of meat, and 02:49 when we ate bread to the fool. 02:52 For you have brought us out into this wilderness 02:54 to kill this whole assembly with what 02:58 then the Lord said 02:59 to Moses, Behold, I will reign bread from heaven for you, 03:04 and the people shall go out and gather a certain quota 03:07 every day 03:08 that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not. 03:13 And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare 03:17 what they bring in, and they shall in. 03:19 It shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 03:23 Then Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel 03:27 at evening, you shall know that the Lord 03:28 has brought you out of the land of Egypt, 03:31 and in the morning 03:32 you shall see 03:33 the glory of the Lord, 03:34 for He hears your complaints against the Lord. 03:38 But what are we that you complain against us? 03:41 And also Moses says, This shall be seen 03:44 when the Lord gives you meat in the evening 03:47 and in the morning. 03:48 Bring it to the fore and the Lord. 03:51 Here is your complaints, which you make against who 03:54 the complaint is, not against Moses and Aaron. 03:56 The complaint against going to the complaint is against God. 03:59 And what are we. 04:01 Your complaints are not against us, but against the law. 04:04 Then Moses spoke to Aaron's 04:06 and saying and saying, say to all the congregation 04:09 of the children of Israel, 04:11 come near before the Lord, for he has heard your complaints. 04:15 Now it came to pass as soon 04:18 came to pass as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation 04:22 of the children of Israel, 04:23 that they looked toward the wilderness and behold 04:28 the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud. 04:32 And the Lord spoke to Moses said, 04:35 I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel 04:39 speak to them, say at twilight you shall eat meat, 04:43 and in the morning you shall be filled with bread 04:46 and you shall know that I am the Lord, your God. 04:49 And so it was that quails came up at evening 04:53 and covered the camp, 04:54 and in the morning Dew lay all around the camp. 04:57 And when the 04:59 layer of dew lifted there on the surface of the wilderness 05:04 was a small round substance as fine as frosts on the ground. 05:09 So when the children of Israel saw it, 05:11 they said to one another, What is this for? 05:15 They did not know what it was. 05:16 And Moses said to them, 05:18 This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. 05:22 This is the thing which the Lord has commended. 05:25 Let every man gather it according to each one's need. 05:29 One omer per person, according to the number of persons, 05:35 and that every man take for those who are in his tent. 05:38 Then the children of Israel did so and gathered some more 05:42 and some less. 05:43 And when they measured it by owners, 05:45 he who gathered much had nothing left over, 05:49 and he who gathered little had know what, 05:53 and every man had gathered according to each one's need. 05:57 And Moses said, Let no one leave any of it until what 06:02 notwithstanding, they did not heed Moses, 06:06 but some of them left part of it until morning 06:09 and it buried worms and it stank. 06:13 And Moses was angry with them, so they gathered it. 06:19 Every wife mourning every man according to his need. 06:24 And when the sun became hot, the word says that it melted. 06:31 Today, saints. 06:32 I want to talk to you for a little while under the subject. 06:36 We got to live one day at a time. 06:41 One day at a time. Let's pray together. 06:43 Father, I am praying that in the hearing of the word 06:48 that faith would be multiplied in real time. 06:54 Holy Spirit, 06:56 would you simply overwhelm this service with your presence? 07:00 And Lord, I pray for the soul that is heavy. 07:03 The soul that is discouraged, the soul that is anxious, Lord, 07:07 that the spirit of happiness 07:09 would be broken up through the power of your word. 07:12 So, Lord, would you hide me in the shadows of the cross 07:15 that Jesus alone might be seen, 07:17 that Christ alone would be heard? 07:19 And at the end of our time 07:20 together, may Jesus alone be praised. 07:24 We ask this in the name of him, who is altogether lovely. 07:26 It is in the name of Jesus that we pray. 07:28 Let those who believe say together a man and a man. 07:33 You may be seated in the House of the Lord 07:35 again, talking to you under the subject. 07:38 One day 07:42 at a time. 07:50 You know, family. 07:51 As we continue to grow and mature, 07:56 we've got to develop some beliefs or convictions 08:02 about God's faithfulness in the area of provision. 08:06 In fact, it is the tension around provision 08:11 that literally touches every believer in the church. 08:15 In fact, the greatest tension of our faith is actually 08:19 how we're going to make it from one month to the next. 08:23 In fact, some of us can't even pray with focus 08:28 because we're worried about how the bills are going to be paid. 08:33 There are some that don't really give to God's cause 08:37 because we're not sure that God is able 08:39 to make up the difference. 08:41 In fact, some can't even enjoy what God. 08:44 Has provided today because our minds have run ahead. 08:49 And attached itself to some future concern. 08:53 And that's what Romans 15 four says that everything 08:56 written in the past was written to teach us 09:01 so that through endurance in the Scriptures, 09:04 we might find encouragement and have hope 09:07 so that the things that happened to Abraham and Isaac and Moses 09:12 were designed to teach us what to do 09:15 when we faced similar adversities in our time. 09:19 And it is imperative that we understand the Scriptures. 09:22 Because too many of 09:23 us are trying to figure out faith in real time. 09:28 We are trying to decide whether or not God. 09:31 Can be trusted. 09:33 We develop faith through trial. 09:35 And. Error, 09:36 and it's an accurate approach because it suggests 09:40 that the journey of faith begins with you. 09:44 And this is why 09:45 we've got to change the way that we read the Scriptures, 09:50 because the Scripture is not a story 09:53 about great people who do great things for God. 09:56 The Scripture is about a great 09:58 God that does great things even for undeserving people. 10:03 And see, this is why the Bible says faith cometh 10:06 by hearing and hearing by the Word of God 10:12 so that your faith isn't 10:13 going to be steadied by your experience. 10:17 Your faith is going to be steadied by what you study. 10:19 Let me say it again that your faith isn't 10:22 going to be anchored by what you go through. 10:25 Your faith is going to be anchored 10:26 by the promises of the word. 10:29 And see, 10:29 this is why 10:30 we've got to get back 10:32 to committing the promises of God to memory, 10:36 because how many of us know that the Scripture 10:38 is essentially God's resumé? 10:41 It is the history of His interactions with man. 10:45 And when you read his resumé, you will be daily reminded 10:48 that God is faithful. 10:50 In fact, friend, 10:51 you need to open up the word 10:53 and begin looking at some of the promises. 10:56 You need to read Ezekiel 10:58 12 and 25 where God says, My word that I speak. 11:03 It shall come to pass and it will not be delayed. 11:07 Somebody needs to read Jeremiah 3227, 11:11 where God says I am the God of all flesh. 11:15 And he says, there is nothing too hard for me. 11:18 Somebody needs to read Isaiah 55 that says his word 11:22 won't return to him void, 11:24 but it will accomplish what he please 11:27 and prosper in the thing that he sent it to do. 11:29 Somebody out of Google. 11:30 Joel 225 For you serve the God that restores the years 11:36 that the locusts have taken 11:37 and he can rebuild the harvest that the canker worm have eaten. 11:42 Somebody out of Google Philippians 419 11:45 four it says, my god, cells supply all my needs 11:48 according to his riches and glory. 11:52 Somebody ought to read Psalm 37 where David says, I was young 11:55 and now I'm old, and I've never seen the righteous, forsaken 12:00 or his sea begging after bread. 12:03 Has anybody read Matthew seven? 12:05 Well, he says ask and it shall be given seek 12:08 and it shall be found not and it shall be opened to you. 12:13 Is there anybody that believes the promise of Titus 12:16 that God is not a man, that He should lie, 12:20 nor like the son of man, that he should change his mind? 12:23 I love what Jane says about the Lord that in him 12:26 there is no shadow attorney or variation. 12:30 I need somebody to know that you've got to stop sitting 12:33 on the premises and start standing on the promises 12:38 for all of his promise. 12:40 S and him are ye. 12:43 And in Christ they are. A man. 12:45 Can you say he meant today? 12:47 And so, friends. 12:48 As we unpack this. 12:49 Word today, I want to talk to you 12:52 about the faithfulness of God as the one who provides. 12:57 And there are four principles I want to aspire. 13:01 The first thing this story teaches friends is that you 13:04 can't solve problems before they arrive. 13:09 Let me say it again 13:10 that you can't worry about problems before they arrive. 13:14 I also with the pastor today 13:16 now is crazy because I used to look at this text, my friends, 13:22 assuming that their fear 13:24 or their complaints was somewhat justified. 13:28 In fact, on the surface, it actually looks like 13:31 their complaint is actually a response to current hunger. 13:37 But when you look at the Scripture Friends, 13:39 they're actually about 30 days outside of the land of Egypt. 13:44 And scholars teach us that Moses taught them 13:49 to bring at least 40 days of supply. 13:52 Are y'all with me now? 13:53 Now, what heightens their anxiety friends 13:57 is that they leave the land of Elam. 14:00 Now, I understand that Elam is described as having 12 14:03 springs of water and seven deep palm trees. 14:07 And so as long as they were in Elam, 14:10 there was an abundance of water. 14:12 The vegetation was plenty, 14:14 and there were creature comforts in the land. 14:17 But now, as they begin their sojourn, 14:20 the water is now scarce, the vegetation is scarce, 14:24 and the mirages are many, 14:26 and they're not sure what parcel of land is going to feed them. 14:31 And I need somebody to get this truth 14:35 because I need you to get that when they begin their complaint. 14:39 I actually believe that there's already a deficit of food. 14:43 But the truth is that when they begin their complaint, 14:46 they actually have about ten days of provision left. 14:51 Are y'all hear me today, France? 14:52 In other words, France. 14:53 I always thought that their hunger 14:55 was overwhelming them and their kids. 14:58 But they're complaining 15:00 about a problem that has yet to come to pass. 15:04 In fact, look at this statement here. 15:06 And patriarchs and prophets. 15:08 I want you to read this with me quickly. 15:10 Alan White says In patriarchs and prophets that they, Israel, 15:15 were unwilling to trust the Lord any further than they could 15:20 witness the continual evidence of his power. 15:25 In other 15:26 words, they would not trust him beyond the current miracle. 15:30 Are you all with me today? 15:31 And then they she says through. 15:33 Though, though their present needs are 15:35 supplied, many are unwilling to trust God for the future, 15:41 and they are in constant anxiety, lest poverty shall come 15:44 upon them and their children shall be left to suffer. 15:48 Some are always 15:50 anticipating evil so that their eyes are blinded 15:56 to the many blessings which demand their gratitude 16:01 and say, This is why, friends, we've got to learn 16:04 how to cast down imaginations and every high thing 16:11 that exalt itself against a knowledge of God. 16:14 Because if you don't manage 16:16 your fears, your fears will move you out of the realm of faith. 16:21 Are you all with me today? 16:22 And see, I need you to get the absurdity of this scenario. 16:26 Saints. There. 16:27 Come planing about hunger 16:29 while they're sitting down eating food. 16:33 They're worried about their kids dying. 16:36 When their kids 16:37 are running around the campfire, they're anticipating poverty 16:42 while their beds are filled with the riches 16:44 that have been supplied from Egypt. 16:47 In other words, they are contemplating lack 16:50 when all of their needs have been met 16:53 and God has never allowed them to lack and a single area 16:57 of their lives. 16:58 And I guess 16:59 what I'm saying, friends, 17:00 is that if you're going to survive the journey of faith, 17:04 how many of us know 17:05 you can't worry about problems before they arrive? 17:09 Because if you're not careful, you're anticipated. 17:13 Agony will drive you out of the realm of faith. 17:17 And let me be clear, friends, 17:18 that this is not a call 17:20 to irresponsibility 17:21 or indifference to the obligations that you have. 17:25 But what I want to do is I want to give somebody 17:29 permission to have peace about the present. 17:34 Okay. 17:34 Let me preach to somebody on this side. 17:36 I want to give somebody the permission to have peace, 17:41 no matter what uncertainty you are facing in your life. 17:44 And see, the problem with us 17:46 is that we're so used to being stressed and overwhelmed 17:51 that for some to have peace feels irresponsible. 17:55 We feel like I need to be stressed about something 17:59 in order to be on top of things. 18:00 But I'm just at a place where I'm not irresponsible. 18:04 I'm not indifferent to my obligations. 18:07 But I'm learning to be still and let God be God 18:11 and have peace in every present circumstance and see friends. 18:17 This is a call away from ruminating and 18:19 being overwhelmed over things you cannot control. 18:24 In other words, friends, you don't need to worry about 18:28 the future because God hasn't given you power over the future. 18:33 In fact, let me amend that to edit. 18:35 Not only did he not give you power over 18:37 the future, he's not even giving you power over the present. 18:42 In fact, that's why Jesus taught us to live one day at a time. 18:47 He says, Don't even worry about the troubles of tomorrow 18:50 because sufficient are the troubles of today. 18:52 Are you all with me friends? 18:54 And see, 18:55 one of the things I've learned 18:56 is that God is not going to give you strength for tomorrow. 19:00 Today 19:02 He's only going to give you strength for today. 19:05 Today. 19:06 And then like the man 19:08 you've got to get a renewed portion on tomorrow. 19:12 So let me say it this way. 19:13 If God is not going to advance tomorrow, strength, stop letting 19:17 the devil lend you tomorrow. Stress. 19:20 Okay, let me let me preach the all on this side. 19:23 If God isn't going to advance tomorrow, strength, 19:27 stop letting the devil land you tomorrow. 19:29 Stress, you need to walk in the strip 19:34 that God has provided this very day. 19:37 And what I want to just simply say to somebody is, 19:41 instead of obsessing about tomorrow, 19:45 instead of meditating on three weeks from now, 19:49 I want to encourage you to wake up 19:51 like the psalmist and say, this is the day 19:55 that the Lord has made. 19:58 I will rejoice and be glad in it. 20:02 Is there anybody that can say that from the rising of the sun 20:06 to the going down of the same, that the name of the Lord 20:10 is to be praise? 20:11 I want to call somebody to get to a place 20:15 where you learn how to wake up and give God today praise. 20:18 In other words, I don't know what's going to be 20:21 with the job three weeks from now, 20:23 but praising that you got to go to work today, 20:27 you don't know whether marriage is going to be in a year, 20:31 but if you still married, praise him for that today. 20:34 You don't know what's going to be in the fridge 20:36 a week from now. 20:38 But if you got fruit in the fridge, praise him today. 20:42 And what I'm saying is you don't have to wait 20:45 until it works out to praise and you've got to learn 20:48 how to praise him for what he's doing right now. 20:51 And today. 20:54 And it's crazy. 20:56 Because the enemy had stirred them so that even though 21:00 God had provided for that day, they had already moved 21:05 into the worst case scenario. 21:07 They see themselves dead. 21:10 They see their kids dead. 21:11 They live in the worst case scenario. 21:14 And one of the things 21:15 I want to encourage you to do, beloved, is 21:16 you got to be mindful to rein in your emotions, 21:22 because how many of us know I'm telling the truth? 21:24 If you're not careful, you live in your worst case scenario. 21:29 You already see yourself contracting such and such. 21:32 You can already see yourself being evicted. 21:35 You've already accepted the fact 21:36 that I'm going to get sick the same time every year. 21:40 You live in the worst case scenario 21:42 and it's crazy because some of us 21:44 only have faith for the curses of man, 21:49 but we have no faith for the blessings of God. 21:54 It's crazy. 21:55 I mean, somebody 21:56 we all know that just about a year 21:57 and a half ago, man, I had a bout with Bell's Palsy. 22:01 And as it relates to health things, 22:02 there are a lot of things that can be a whole lot worse. 22:05 But man, it causes your face to be disfigured. 22:07 It causes your speech to slur. 22:09 And it's crazy because, man, when your speech slurs, 22:12 it's kind of the worst things that can happen to a speaker. 22:15 Yeah. 22:16 Are you all with me? 22:17 What I'm saying 22:18 and it's crazy because, man, as I'm meeting with my doctors, 22:22 they literally say, man, you pretty much got a 90% chance 22:25 to be able to get back to for health, 22:26 but that's about a 10% chance 22:28 that you might not regain all of your speech 22:31 or you may still have some disk configuration. 22:32 And and it's crazy because for a minute, man, 22:35 I'm living in my worst case scenario. 22:39 I'm wondering what I'm going to do if I can't talk, 22:41 if I can't appear on camera, 22:42 if I can't do what God is telling me to do. 22:45 But I need you to know that God had to help me regain my self. 22:51 I had to come to myself and instead of walking in the 10%, 22:56 I had to lay claim to the 90%. 23:00 So guess what? 23:01 I preach that following Wednesday 23:04 I preached that next Sabbath and like the ten 23:07 lepers, as I went, 23:11 I got stronger each week and my speech each week. 23:16 I can live in the worst case scenario. 23:19 And what I'm saying to somebody, 23:21 there is a looming medical prognosis. 23:24 The situation does not look good at home. 23:27 But what I'm saying to somebody 23:28 is that before you accept the divorce, 23:31 before you accept the sickness, 23:34 before you accept the termination. 23:36 I'm gonna encourage you to stand in the word 23:42 and declare I'm going live and not die. 23:46 I'm gonna be above and not beneath. 23:50 The house is gonna close. 23:52 The kids are going to graduate. 23:54 The healing is gonna come. 23:56 God is going to hold those houses together. 23:59 Your kids go. Come back to church. 24:02 Don't just have faith for the bad, as Jonathan saying. 24:06 You got to expect the grades are. 24:09 You are here in the world today, my friends. 24:13 Second thing this story teaches us 24:15 is that if you're going to abide in faith, you got to get rid. 24:19 Of your. 24:20 Contingency plan. 24:24 Okay. 24:27 So I need you to be clear that there are portions of this story 24:32 that are not going to align with conventional thinking. 24:36 Do you realize, beloved. 24:38 That God is not necessarily called us? Thank the. 24:41 Lord to live. 24:42 Like they did during the miracle of manna. 24:44 But guess what? 24:46 We've got to draw. Out the principles of. Faith. 24:48 So what God said to the children of Israel 24:50 as it relates to the distribution, 24:52 he gave them some very unique directions. 24:55 He says each and every. 24:56 One of you shall take one omer per person. 25:00 And see an omer is essentially 1/10 of an effort 25:05 and ifa was about 3.5 liters and essentially one IFA 25:10 or one omer was about a 10th of a liter 25:14 and that is what they were supposed to eat. 25:16 And there was a curious thing 25:17 because God says, don't keep any beyond. 25:21 A single. Day. 25:24 God don't let them put anything into. 25:27 Storage. 25:29 Because it is declining storage 25:33 that got them in this panic in the first place. 25:37 So God says, don't keep no extra. 25:40 Don't put no tin foil in the bottom of your purse 25:44 and try to carry it home. 25:47 He says, Don't put any in the deep freezer, 25:51 he says, don't try to put it on in a jar like freezer. 25:54 I here what I'm saying. 25:55 He literally sets up a scenario where they've got to trust 26:01 God every day 26:06 for their portion. 26:08 In fact, God is so specific 26:10 that he literally says the word says that 26:11 when the sun warmed up, good, it melted away all the excess. 26:16 And then when some disobeyed God and tried to, can a little bit 26:20 extra got cursed and filled it with maggots and. 26:24 Worms. 26:26 To the point it was inedible and it began. 26:28 To stink. 26:31 And see, the reason that God curse the leftovers. 26:34 Because essentially what the leftovers were, 26:37 it was man trying to create a contingency 26:41 in the event that God didn't do what he said. 26:45 It was an overt act of obedience, obedience 26:50 where they say, Man, I got to have a little extra 26:53 in case Jehovah-Jireh decides to change his mind. 26:57 Thank you so much for joining us for The Breath of Life 27:01 Television ministries broadcast with Pastor Debleaire Snell. 27:05 We hope and pray 27:06 that you have been blessed by his powerful message. 27:09 Join us next week for part two of “One Day at a Time.” 27:15 You don't want to miss it. 28:04 (Breath Of Life Music) |
