00:01 #S093 - “Crazy Praise” (Part 1)
00:19 Job, chapter 00:20 one, and we're going to begin together, verse number six. 00:23 When you get there, just say, Pastor, I'm there. 00:26 Job chapter one and verse number six, job one. 00:33 In verse six, 00:35 the Bible says, Now There was a day 00:37 when the sons of God came to present themselves 00:39 before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 00:43 And the Lord said to Satan, from where do you come? 00:46 So Satan answered the Lord and say, 00:48 If I'm going to inform from on the Earth 00:51 and from walking back and forth on it, 00:54 then the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered 00:57 my servant, Joe? 00:58 Know there is nothing like Him on the earth, 01:01 a blameless and upright man, 01:04 one that fears God and shuns evil. 01:07 So Satan answered the Lord and said, This job 01:09 for fear, God for nothing. 01:11 Have you not made a heads around him, 01:13 around this household, around all that he has on every side? 01:18 You have blessed 01:19 the work of his hands and his possessions have what? 01:23 His possessions have, what increased in the land. 01:27 But now stretch out your hand and touch all that he has. 01:31 And he will surely do what 01:34 I mean. 01:35 He has certainty, says he will surely curse you to your face, 01:39 and the Lord said him to Satan, Behold, all that He has 01:42 is in your power. 01:43 Only do not lay a hand on his first. 01:46 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord. 01:50 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters 01:51 were eating and drinking wine and their oldest brother's house 01:55 and a messenger came to Jobe and said 01:58 the axon were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them. 02:02 When the sapiens raided them and took them away. 02:05 And indeed 02:06 they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword. 02:09 And I alone have escaped to tell you, 02:13 while he was still speaking, 02:16 another also came and said the fire of God 02:20 fell from heaven 02:22 and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them. 02:26 And I alone have escaped to tell you. 02:29 And while he was still speaking, 02:32 another also came and said the Chaldeans formed 02:35 three barns, raided the camels and took them away. Yes. 02:39 And killed the servants with the ends of the sword. 02:42 And I alone have escaped to tell you. 02:45 And while he was still speaking, 02:48 you thought you had a bad day this week, another also came 02:54 and said your sons and daughters were eating 02:56 and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, 03:00 and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness 03:04 and struck the four corners of the house. 03:07 And it fell down on the young people and they are dead. 03:10 And I alone have escaped to tell you 03:13 and notice friends jobs response. 03:16 Then Joab arose, 03:20 tore his 03:21 robe, shaved his head 03:26 and fell to the ground 03:33 and worshiped. 03:37 And he said, naked. 03:38 I came from my mother's womb 03:42 and naked. 03:43 Shall I return there? 03:45 The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. 03:49 But He said, Blessed be 03:53 the name of the Lord. 03:56 I want to title this message today. 03:59 A crazy phrase 04:01 Turn to your neighbor and say, I don't know what you have, 04:05 but he gave God some crazy praise. 04:09 Let's look to the Lord as we pray together, 04:12 Father again and this little wound. 04:15 Would you please say much? 04:17 I am praying today, Lord, that 04:21 that the message of Scripture 04:23 that it would not remain theory or theology. 04:27 Well, Lord, may it be lived out in our day to day experience. 04:32 So, Father, I'm praying that in the hearing of the word, 04:34 the faith would be multiplied exponentially. 04:38 Would you please hide me in the shadows of the cross that 04:41 Jesus alone might be seen, that Christ alone would be heard? 04:46 And at the end of our time together, 04:47 let Jesus alone be praise blessed. 04:50 To this end, 04:51 we ask, in the mighty name 04:52 of Jesus that those who love the Lord say together, amen. 04:56 And a man you may be seated 04:58 in the House of the Lord again, talking under the subject. 05:02 Crazy praise, 05:06 you know, friends in some 34, 05:10 the patriarch David says, 05:13 I will bless the Lord at all times, 05:18 and his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 05:23 And though that sounds great, during the dark, solid 05:28 part of worship, 05:30 it's a 05:31 little bit harder to live out in real time. 05:34 You see, it's natural for us to bless the Lord in good times. 05:39 It's easy to bless the Lord when the members for feels 05:45 it's appropriate 05:46 to bless the Lord when the health improves, it's 05:50 right to bless the Lord and wealthy times, 05:54 but to bless the Lord at all times 05:57 requires an intimacy with God 06:00 that is beyond your predicament. 06:03 For true worship friends is not seasonal 06:08 for true worshipers realize that God is worthy 06:11 no matter this easy truth phrase is not musical 06:17 because real worship 06:18 is not contingent upon the strength of the choir 06:21 or whether or not 06:22 the praise team sings the songs that you like. 06:26 Worship is not liturgical for it does not begin at 11:00. 06:31 It should have started well before your feet walked 06:33 through the threshold of the door. 06:36 True worship is not emotional 06:40 because sometimes I have to worship 06:41 even when I don't feel like praising his holy name. 06:46 Real worship is not about expression 06:50 for real worship is not about how you lift your hands. 06:55 It's not about how you are not your enunciate, your hallelujah. 07:00 It's not about the type of tongue you speak. 07:02 And it is not about whether you sing, dance, shout or cry. 07:08 Real worship is the discipline to know that no matter what 07:11 you face, 07:12 no matter where you find yourself, 07:16 no matter what is happening in your world, that 07:18 the Lord is great and He is greatly to be praise. 07:23 And what I simply want to proffer 07:25 today is that at some point your praise 07:29 ought to be so counter to your certain stance 07:32 that your praise ought to actually make you look crazy. 07:36 In other words, there ought to come a time 07:38 where your praise don't make no sense, where it seems insane 07:44 because it is not in harmony with the predicament 07:46 that you face and my preaching to anybody today. 07:50 The truth is that Paul and Silas gave God a crazy praise 07:55 for the Bible says that they were bound in prison, 07:59 but the Bible says that at midnight 08:02 they could be heard praying and singing praises unto God. 08:06 They gave him a crazy praise. 08:08 The three Hebrew boys gave him a crazy praise for 08:11 on their way to the fiery furnace. 08:15 They made it known that they would only praise the true 08:17 and living God, that David gave him a crazy praise 08:23 that even when he was in Route, I escaped from Saul. 08:27 The Bible says that he would bless the Lord at all times 08:31 and even joke gave him a crazy praise. 08:34 But when he loses all his livelihood and his kids, 08:38 he falls down in worship 08:39 and glorifies the God who created all things. 08:43 And I just need to know, 08:44 do I have at least eight or nine saints in this room 08:48 whose worship is not based upon who's singing 08:51 your praise is not based upon what the preacher's saying. 08:54 Your praise is not based upon what's in your bank account. 08:57 Your praise is actually counter to your predicament. 09:01 Do I have at least eight folk that will give God 09:02 our crazy praise? 09:04 All is not well around you, but it is well in your soul 09:10 and you realize that God is worthy 09:14 to be praise. 09:15 Are you all with me today? Thanks. 09:17 And so as we walk through the book of Joe, quickly, 09:20 I won't be able to get it all. 09:22 But there's just a few things I want to highlight about family 09:26 and the great controversy today. 09:29 Joe, chapter one in verse four, 09:30 when you get there, let me hear you say, man, 09:32 the Bible talks about Joe's sons, the Bible says, 09:36 and his sons would go and feast in their houses 09:39 each on its appointed day, and he would sing 09:41 and invite three sisters to eat and drink with them. 09:45 And so it was when the days of feasting had run their course 09:49 that Joe would see him and sanctify them 09:52 and he would rise early in the morning 09:54 and offer burnt offerings. 09:55 According to the number of demand for Joe said it may be 10:00 that my sons have sinned and curse God in their hearts. 10:04 And so thus Joe did have 10:08 now again friends. 10:09 The story of Joe has very powerful 10:12 implications for these last days. 10:16 But the first thing Joe shows us today is that perfect 10:20 parents can still raise imperfect children. 10:25 Not not now. Understand friends. 10:27 That job is described actually as blameless. 10:30 He is described as upright. 10:34 In fact, Joe's character is so devout 10:37 that Satan does not come looking for Joe. 10:40 Joe is actually recommended by God. 10:44 And even though we don't know much about jokes, 10:47 children, the one detail we have 10:51 is that Joe's children knew how to turn up. 10:54 Are you all with me today? 10:55 In fact, friends, jokes, kids who are beyond 10:59 the age of instruction would have days of 11:04 party are in their own homes. 11:06 The Bible says, in fact, man, the the turnout was so intense 11:13 that I don't know what Joe saw when he walked through, 11:17 but it made him nervous that they might have curse God 11:20 in their hearts. 11:21 In fact, this thing was so bad that when Joe walks through, 11:25 he seeing folk 11:27 laid out on conscience, their bottles of Hennessey 11:30 piled up in one corner, cigaret butts in another corner, 11:36 stripper sparkle in somebodys lap, condom wrappers 11:38 all over the ground and cigar butts all over the place. 11:43 In fact, this thing is so bad church 11:47 that George says, let me sanctify my kids. 11:50 Here's this thing is so bad that Joe says, 11:53 I got to offer burnt offerings for these kids. 11:56 He says, this is so bad that I'm nervous 11:59 that they might have curse God in their hearts. 12:03 Now, to some of us, this seems extremes. 12:06 But the truth is, we know our kids, 12:09 and whatever precautions you take, it's 12:12 because of the behavior they consistently display. 12:16 And I preach anybody that. 12:17 But the one thing I like about Joe 12:21 is that even though he doesn't know exactly what happened, 12:25 he made offerings just in case he didn't know what happened. 12:29 But he made sacrifices just in case 12:33 he didn't know what went down. 12:35 But he interceded just in case. 12:38 The thing I like about Joe is that he 12:41 prayed preemptive prayers. 12:44 In other words, he didn't know what happened, 12:48 but he knew he needed to be interceding just in case 12:52 they went beyond the boundary of what he had been taught. 12:55 And one of the things I want to espouse, 12:58 whether your children are grown or whether they are 13:01 still in diapers, we need to get in the habit 13:05 of praying some just in case kind of prayers. 13:08 See, see. 13:09 We've got to learn how to pray preemptively 13:12 on behalf of the children that God has given to us. 13:15 And I preach to the anybody today. 13:17 The truth is, you ought to preach the right thing. 13:21 You ought to model the right example, 13:23 but you've still got to pray some 13:24 just in case kind of prayers for your children. 13:29 In other words, you need to pray just in case she finds herself 13:34 in the back seat of a car with the wrong kind of guy. 13:38 You need to pray just in case they find themselves 13:41 in a house party where libations are flowing. 13:44 You need to be praying just in case 13:48 some gender curiosity is coming upon them. 13:52 You need to be praying just in case they find themselves 13:55 in a dark place with depression drawing onto them. 14:00 You need to be praying just in case they get in the car 14:03 with somebody drinking behind the wheel. 14:06 You need to be praying just in case 14:09 they find themselves between a rock and a hard place. 14:13 And you want God to nudge them in the right direction. 14:17 Does anybody know 14:18 you need to pray some preemptive prayers for your babies 14:23 now? Now, some of 14:24 us are acting brand new because some of us can't testify. 14:29 The only reason we are alive is because 14:31 of the preemptive prayer 14:35 that some mamas and grandmothers and grand daddies 14:40 prayed and a prayer meeting and an upper room on your behalf. 14:43 Is there anybody that can keep it real today? 14:47 The only reason the accident didn't kill 14:49 you was because somebody prayed, preempt their prayers. 14:53 The only reason you got favor was because somebody prayed a 14:57 at the prayer. 14:58 The only reason you didn't marry the wrong person 15:02 was because somebody prayed somebody at the prayers. 15:06 The only reason door is open is because God has sent somebody 15:11 to pray some three into prayers and instead of acting skittish 15:15 about praying, a preempt, a prayer, 15:17 you ought to say, Lord, I thank you 15:20 that you raised somebody 15:22 up, that you put me on somebody's mind so 15:25 they can pray preemptively against my stupidity. 15:30 Y'all not hear me today? 15:33 Thank God that somebody prayed some preemptive prayers. 15:38 Now watch this. 15:39 The one thing I do like about my Joe 15:42 is that he does not parent 15:45 with naivete. 15:49 In fact, notice for the worse is that 15:50 he don't know what happened. 15:52 But Joe might 15:53 actually be assuming his kids did the worst thing. 15:58 In fact, he parents with a healthy level of suspicion. 16:01 Are you all with me today? 16:02 Church and see where we sometimes go wrong 16:07 is we assume that because we raise our kids in the church 16:12 that it is beyond them to do certain things. 16:16 And let me be clear, I try to stay out of the whole 16:18 parenting conversation 16:20 I'm doing the best I can to raise the one I have. 16:24 But the one thing I know 16:25 is that we set ourselves up for a thousand disappointments. 16:30 That assuming that because you raised them 16:33 in church, that it is beyond them to do certain things. 16:38 Okay, you are brand new today. 16:40 I mean, where in the Bible did it say that 16:43 because you raised them in the church, that it is beyond 16:47 the possibility that they might drink 16:50 it is ever to believe that it is beyond the possibility 16:53 that they might drop out. 16:55 It is folly to believe they are beyond 16:58 the possibility of committing suicide. 17:00 It is wrong to assume 17:01 they are beyond the possibility of being homosexual. 17:05 It is wrong to assume 17:06 they are beyond the possibility of going to a certain place. 17:11 And the crazy hypocritical thing about it is why do we think 17:15 that they would never do the things we used 17:17 to regularly do? 17:20 Oh, I'm getting in your business 17:21 right in front of your kids today. 17:23 In other words, 17:24 do not sit up here and act like you ain't never going down 17:27 the wrong road in life. 17:28 Am I telling the truth today? 17:30 In other words, there are some of us 17:31 that are spiritual now and we are born again today. 17:36 But how many of us know that 17:38 when you get kids, they don't get your born again DNA, 17:43 they get your first birth DNA, 17:47 they have your spiritual example, 17:50 but they are living out your spiritual DNA. 17:53 And the Bible says, we have all been born in 17:55 sin and shape and in y'all hear what I'm saying? 18:01 And it's funny because even my wonderful three low pastor kids, 18:05 there are certain times where they do crazy stuff 18:07 and I can't even get mad 18:11 cause I know whose DNA is coming out of them. 18:15 When I do certain stuff, 18:16 I can't even get mad because I know they act 18:20 just like they momma y'all not hearing me in the bathroom 18:22 since 18:31 she's sick and watching Old Line. 18:33 So I got an hour before I pay the consequence for this. 18:37 I pray for the past a day, but the one thing that 18:42 I want to draw attention to is, is the one anomaly, friends, 18:47 is the power of choice. 18:51 So that even 18:52 when you raise a good child and instruct them the right way, 18:56 I need you to know that even though you can influence 18:59 the outcome and instruct the outcome, 19:01 you cannot determine the outcome of any free 19:04 moral agent because they've been given the power to choose. 19:09 And the reason that's critical is 19:10 I want to set some parent free 19:12 who is living with guilt 19:13 because of the decisions of your aging children. 19:17 I need you to understand that their choices as an adult 19:19 is not an indictment 19:20 of your parenting. It didn't mean your 19:23 your investment in education was in vain. 19:26 It does not mean that God did not hear your prayers. 19:29 It's simply means 19:30 that you raised somebody that had the power to choose. 19:34 I don't hear what I'm saying to the church. 19:36 I see the reason that the kids choice 19:40 is not an indictment on the parents character is 19:43 there is a larger motive at work. 19:45 See, you think that I've been talking about raising kids, 19:49 but I'm actually talking about the great controversy 19:52 because we serve a perfect father. 19:56 He gave 19:56 Lucifer a perfect environment. 19:59 And yet Lucifer still made the choice to sit here me today 20:04 so that a perfect father created 20:06 a perfect world where children that had a perfect nature. 20:12 And yet Adam and Eve still made the decision to sit. 20:15 Are you here? You know what I'm saying today? 20:17 And understand that the children choice 20:21 is not an indictment of our father's character. 20:24 And to the reason I'm saying this is because there are 20:26 some of us that get upset 20:28 and we ask the question, 20:29 if God knew that Adam and Eve were going to send, if 20:32 God knew that Lucifer was going straight, wasn't it a mistake? 20:36 Why did he actually create if he knew what they were going 20:39 to become? 20:41 Do you know why God created knowing the liability 20:44 God created? 20:45 Because He is love. 20:48 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I didn't say. 20:52 The Bible says the first, John, that God is love. 20:56 So so God is not just loving. 20:59 That is just not one 21:00 of several characteristics that God possesses. 21:04 The Bible makes it clear that God is the very essence 21:06 of love, that love actually emanates from Him 21:10 because He is the source of love. 21:12 Are y'all with me today? 21:13 Church As it the one thing about love 21:17 is that love can never operate in a vacuum. 21:20 Love can never operate in a silo. 21:23 Love needs two things. 21:24 Love needs an outlet and love needs a target. 21:29 Oh, God, let me say it. 21:30 Love needs something to aim itself 21:33 at so that God would not be in love 21:38 if he just basked in his own greatness throughout eternity. 21:41 Because God is love. 21:43 He needed an outlet. 21:44 He needed a target. 21:46 He needed something to aim his goodness. 21:49 That's 21:51 as if we're so messed up that we think it was a mistake 21:54 for him to create. 21:55 But we don't even realize that God created us to be the target 22:01 for the expression of His divine love for us. 22:05 I don't hear what I'm saying. 22:07 So that one of the things about love 22:08 is that love always reproduces itself. 22:13 In other words, if it was wrong for God 22:16 to create, then it was wrong for you to have kids. 22:19 Oh, in other words, why do parents have kids? 22:23 In other words, there was a point 22:24 and time in the marriage, hopefully where they are 22:26 settled, where the husband and wife have so much love 22:31 for one another that the love cannot 22:35 be, can Cain and the union of the two? 22:38 And at a certain point 22:39 in time they need something else to show love to 22:44 and say, I need somebody to get this. 22:45 Because sometimes we have kids knowing 22:48 that that pregnancy may put the mother at risk. 22:52 We have kids knowing that it's going to cost us money. 22:56 We have kids knowing that they're going to talk back. 22:59 We have kids knowing that they're going to disobey. 23:02 But guess what? 23:03 The love is so strong before they are born that just what 23:07 you take on all the liabilities of yours to yourself simply 23:11 because love needs an outlet and love has to have a target. 23:17 And that's why I am thankful that even though God knew there 23:19 was going to be disobedience, 23:21 he had already pledged himself a ransom for and Sam. 23:26 And so instead of complaining about creation, 23:30 I just celebrate the plan of redemption 23:34 because the plan of redemption is the perfect counterbalance 23:38 for every liability of creation. 23:41 So I'll take 70 years of discomf 23:50 with my Lord 23:51 and Savior, Jesus Christ, I whip it in a church. 23:56 Secondly, in the Bible 23:58 says to us here, John, chapter one and verse three, I'm quick. 24:01 Today the Bible says this look at it. 24:03 Church The Bible say it's also his possessions were 7000 sheep, 24:08 3000 camels, 500 yoke, about 500 female donkeys 24:13 and a very large household. 24:14 So that 24:15 this man was the greatest of all the people in the east. 24:20 Now, I'm going to be honest with you, is going to get 24:22 a little uncomfortable right in here, 24:26 but I wouldn't do my job if y'all didn't get mad at me. 24:28 Every now and then, 24:30 I hear me today. 24:32 Y'all want to change the channel online, 24:33 but stay with me a little longer. 24:35 So. So you're Boy Joe. 24:37 I came front. 24:38 He is living his best life. 24:44 Do you realize that in an agrarian culture, 24:47 you don't measure 24:48 riches by the amount of money you have in the bank 24:50 or the amount of stock options you are in possession of. 24:54 You actually measured riches by how much land you possess, by 24:57 how many cattle you are in ownership of, 25:02 and how many servants are underneath your stewardship. 25:05 And see, the one thing I like about Joe number two 25:09 is that Joe had possessions, he possessed things, 25:13 but he didn't become possessed by things. 25:17 Okay. 25:19 And see, let me just say this. 25:21 The fact that God gave 25:24 job so much means that God 25:27 is not trying to withhold anything from his children. 25:32 Thank you for joining us for The Breath of Life 25:34 Television Ministries broadcast with Pastor Devlin Smith. 25:39 We hope and pray that you have been blessed 25:41 by this powerful message. 25:43 Join us next week for part two of the message Crazy. 25:47 Pray. 25:48 You don't want to miss 25:50 if you keep letting losing happen to you. 25:53 If you keep letting people do you in 25:54 any kind of way, it's going to become our culture winners 25:58 and losers.
