00:02 It's time to go on a journey, a search for treasure!
00:08 This is no ordinary treasure, though. 00:11 This priceless discovery contains God's Word, 00:16 including secrets from the past and future 00:20 that will change your life. 00:23 Welcome to Bible Treasures! 00:30 Yes, I threw away the vacuum cleaner yesterday. 00:33 Really? Why did you do that? 00:34 It was just collecting dust. 00:37 I'd go for that one. 00:38 Hey, guys, good to see you. Come on in. 00:39 Hey! Hey, Mr. Rich. 00:41 Man, it's another great day. Yeah. 00:42 And I'm so glad you guys are here. 00:44 I heard that dust joke. That's pretty good. 00:45 We're in a place of a lot of dust, isn't it? 00:47 Yeah. Yeah. 00:48 Hey, so my name is Rich Aguilera, 00:50 and welcome to Bible Treasures. 00:51 I'm so happy you're here with us today. 00:53 We have a great team with us. 00:55 Let me let them introduce themselves. 00:56 I'm Tim. 00:58 And I do all things that are related to computers. 01:00 Awesome. 01:01 Hi, I'm Sam. 01:03 And I am your expert 01:05 when it comes to historical documents. 01:07 And I'm Nori, your artifacts' girl. 01:09 Cool. 01:10 And we've got our whole team assembled 01:11 and they're working all over the place here in the desert. 01:13 So first things first, guys, before we get started, 01:16 I want to sharpen our brains. 01:17 What do you guys think? 01:19 Yeah, cool. That's good. 01:20 Okay. So here's what I got. Yeah. 01:21 Here's what I got. 01:23 I've got a brain teaser for you guys. 01:24 Whoo! Awesome. 01:25 I love those. I love those. 01:27 All right, let's see if you guys can get this one. 01:28 This is a good one. This is a tough one. 01:30 All right. Okay. 01:31 It says, "Jimmy's mother had four children. 01:32 She named the first Monday, she named the second Tuesday, 01:34 she named the third Wednesday, 01:36 what was the name of the fourth child?" 01:40 I don't know. That's pretty hard. 01:42 That's puzzling. 01:43 All right, you guys can think about that. 01:44 Okay. 01:46 Yeah, a notification. 01:47 I think I heard it. There's a message? 01:48 Did we get a message from HQ? 01:50 We got a message. Yeah. 01:51 Right there. 01:53 It seems like all the news on TV is bad. 01:55 Sometimes, I don't really feel safe. 01:58 Is God really protecting me? 02:02 Wow, that's a great question. 02:04 Yeah, the news can be depressing. 02:07 Yeah. 02:08 You know, sometimes, it's true. 02:09 It's like you look at the news, 02:11 and it's more like a collection of bad news. 02:12 Yeah. Yeah, really. 02:15 How can we respond? 02:16 Well, you know what, first things first, 02:19 why don't we get this question written down in the journal? 02:22 Awesome idea. Good idea. 02:23 All right. 02:25 Is God protecting us? 02:30 You know what? Yeah. 02:32 I think I have an idea. 02:34 Ooh. What is that? 02:35 Let's get an artifact that will help us 02:36 answer this question. 02:38 Yes. I'll go get it. That would be great. 02:39 I think it's Artifact Number 73B. 02:42 Okay, great. Okay. 02:43 I love toting around my artifacts 02:45 in my little trinkets 02:46 'cause to me, you know what, they're like little treasures. 02:48 Yeah. Here we go. 02:49 Awesome. Oh. Red. 02:51 Yeah. Nice. 02:52 Yeah. Nice red. 02:53 Red's my favorite color. This is a beauty. 02:55 Now I got this in a country called Jordan. 02:57 Wow! I've never been there. 02:58 Jordan? Yeah. 02:59 Wow. 03:01 Sam, can you show us where Jordan is on the map? 03:02 Sure. I remember where it is. 03:03 It's right here. 03:05 That's it. That's it. Yeah. 03:06 You know what? That's a long ways away. 03:08 That is far ways. Yeah. 03:09 Man, you know what, we could probably use 03:11 seeing a Location Brief 03:12 to learn a little bit about Jordan. 03:14 You think we have one? Yeah. 03:15 That'd be good. 03:16 Yeah, let's see. I'll go find it. 03:19 Location Brief, Jordan. 03:22 Jordan is an Arab Kingdom 03:24 located in the heart of the Middle East 03:27 in Western Asia. 03:29 Over 10 million people live in Jordan, 03:33 and the capital is a city called Amman, 03:37 a modern Arab city 03:39 and major tourist destination. 03:43 A large part of Jordan's western border 03:47 is with the Jordan River, 03:49 a river prominently mentioned many times in the Bible. 03:54 And Jerusalem is only 20 miles away. 03:59 The Jordan River is with John the Baptist, 04:02 baptized Jesus, 04:04 as documented in the New Testament. 04:08 The Old Testament also documents 04:12 that this is where the Children of Israel 04:15 crossed the Jordan into the Promised Land, 04:19 after wandering around the desert for 40 years. 04:25 The biblical account says that God stopped 04:29 the flow of water in the Jordan River 04:32 so the Israelites could cross over into Canaan. 04:36 Mount Nebo is also in Jordan, 04:39 where the Bible says Moses died 04:42 before the Children of Israel crossed the Jordan. 04:46 Although the majority of Jordan is desert, 04:50 there are also mountainous regions 04:52 gloved in evergreen forests. 04:56 There are also two very important bodies of water 05:00 connected to Jordan. 05:03 In the south, Jordan touches the Gulf of Aqaba, 05:08 which is connected to the Red Sea, 05:11 one of the possible locations 05:13 where the Children of Israel crossed the Red Sea. 05:18 The other important body of water is the Dead Sea. 05:23 The question is, why is it called the Dead Sea? 05:29 There is a very good answer to that question. 05:33 It's called the Dead Sea 05:35 because there is nothing alive in these waters. 05:40 The Dead Sea is at the bottom of the Jordan Rift Valley 05:45 and holds the record 05:47 for the lowest land elevation on earth, 05:51 1,412 feet 05:56 below sea level. 05:58 The reason there is no life in the Dead Sea 06:02 is because it's high concentration of salt 06:06 being approximately 10 times saltier than the ocean. 06:12 Because of this harsh environment, 06:15 plants and animals cannot flourish. 06:19 Tourists love to visit the Dead Sea 06:22 because of the extreme geography 06:25 that can be seen in this area. 06:27 Because of the high salt water density, 06:31 it has become a very popular activity 06:34 for people to get into the water and float. 06:39 If you don't know how to swim, you would enjoy a visit. 06:45 Anyone can simply sit in the water 06:48 and float with no effort. 06:52 The Bible does not mention the name Dead Sea, 06:57 but it does make reference to the Salt Sea many times, 07:02 and many biblical events 07:04 unfolded in and around these waters. 07:10 Jordan is a fascinating country 07:13 with many amazing natural wonders 07:16 and a lot of historical importance. 07:20 This concludes the Location Brief. 07:25 Wow, that's pretty cool. Yeah. 07:26 Yeah. Yeah. 07:28 Jordan is a really neat place. 07:29 And for me, this keffiyeh is very special 07:32 because it's the very first archaeology dig 07:34 I ever went on. 07:36 Oh, that's awesome. Wow. 07:37 I had just gotten out of college, 07:39 and I was invited to go to Jordan on a dig. 07:41 So you know what, we made our plans. 07:43 We got on the airplane. 07:45 We arrived in Jordan, to the capital, Amman. 07:47 Wow. Awesome. 07:48 The first day that we were there, 07:50 you know what they did? 07:51 What? What? 07:53 They took us on a tour to the dig site. 07:54 Ooh, okay. 07:55 It was cool 'cause they took us out 07:57 into the middle of the desert. 07:58 Now the desert was really flat. 07:59 But they took us to this place where there was this bump, 08:01 it was called a Tel. 08:02 Oh. Yeah. 08:03 Now the Tel actually means that's where an ancient city 08:06 used to be located. 08:07 Oh, okay. Oh, wow! 08:08 Isn't that cool? Yes. 08:10 It's really cool. 08:11 So they knew that's where we were gonna be digging. 08:13 So the next day, now that we knew 08:14 where we're going to be digging, 08:15 we got up super early. 08:17 You'll never guess what time they got us up. 08:18 What time? 6:00am? 08:19 7:00 o' clock. 5:00 in the morning. 08:21 Whoa. Yeah. 08:22 You know why, 08:24 it's because they wanted us to be at the dig site, 08:25 right at 6:00 'cause that's when the sun came up. 08:26 Okay. Oh, right. 08:28 Yeah. 08:29 That way you can work in the coolest part of the day. 08:30 Yep. That's nice. 08:32 So at 6:00am, we got up on the Tel 08:33 and we started working. 08:34 But you know what happened right away? 08:36 What? What happened? 08:37 The wind started blowing. Oh! 08:39 And we were up on that hill. 08:40 So the wind would just whip through the desert 08:41 and then up on the Tel. 08:43 And we were just getting plastered with sand. 08:44 Oh. Oh! 08:45 So you know what happened when I got home that day? 08:47 Ooh, what happened? What? 08:48 It took me like half an hour to get all the sand 08:49 out of my eyes, out of my nose. 08:51 Oh, that's terrible. 08:52 Out of my ears, out of my mouth. 08:54 Wow! Yes. 08:55 So I talked to a friend and he said, 08:56 "You know what you need?" 08:58 What? 08:59 "A keffiyeh." 09:00 That's what the... I got you. 09:02 That's a keffiyeh? That's a keffiyeh. 09:03 Oh! 09:05 So he said, "Go down to the marketplace in Amman 09:06 and buy yourself a keffiyeh." 09:07 So that's exactly what I did. 09:09 That very afternoon, I went to the marketplace, 09:10 and I found this keffiyeh. 09:12 And I bought it. Cool. 09:13 So what were you supposed to do with the keffiyeh? 09:15 Well, I wasn't quite sure either. 09:16 So the next morning, 09:18 I took my keffiyeh to the dig site at 6:00am. 09:19 And when I got there, there were these Arab guys 09:22 there that helped me know how to use it. 09:24 Oh, cool. And they opened it up for me. 09:26 And they folded it a certain way, 09:28 and they put it over your head, and they wrap your face. 09:31 And they just leave these little slits for your eyes. 09:33 And then I said, "Well, I'll just put my sunglasses 09:36 on top of that." 09:37 So I was totally protected from the sand. 09:39 Oh, that's great, yeah. Wow! 09:41 That's awesome. 09:42 You know, it's great 'cause we worked the whole day, 09:44 and when I got home that day, you know what? 09:46 What? I took my keffiyeh off. 09:47 I just had to shake off all the sand. 09:49 But I didn't have any sand in my ears. 09:51 So it worked. It worked. 09:53 It worked. I was protected by the sand. 09:55 I wish I had one. 09:56 Yeah, you know, we probably need to have 09:58 one of these all the time nearby. 10:00 Yeah. Yeah. 10:01 But this reminded me about something 10:02 'cause the question that we read today 10:04 that we heard about today was, 10:05 "God, is He there to protect us?" 10:09 And I'm excited to say that, 10:10 you know, there's a lot of verses in the Bible 10:13 that remind us that God is there to protect us. 10:15 That's good. 10:17 And there's a Treasure Text that we could probably read 10:18 to find out about that. 10:20 You want me to look that up? 10:21 That'd be great, Sam. 10:23 Can you look up Psalms 91:4, I think it was? 10:26 All right. 10:28 This is going to be the perfect verse 10:29 to help us answer this question today. 10:30 Cool. I found it. 10:32 "He shall cover you with His feathers, 10:34 and under His wings, you shall take refuge. 10:36 His truth shall be your shield and buckler." 10:39 Nice. That's a perfect verse. 10:40 You're right. That's a good verse. 10:42 Yeah, great. 10:43 Just like this keffiyeh was protecting me 10:44 from the sand in the desert, 10:46 this verse is telling us, 10:47 yeah, that God is going to protect us 10:48 from bad things. 10:50 Yeah. Wow. 10:51 This is a great verse. 10:52 You know, I kind of write this down... 10:54 Oh, that'd be good idea. Yeah. 10:55 Right here under our question. 10:57 It was Psalms 91:4. 11:00 Cool. Cool! 11:01 Man, that's awesome. All right. 11:02 Looks like Tim's over there. 11:04 Hey, I got some pictures. Cool! 11:05 Hey, we should check it out. Pictures? 11:06 Come on over. What do you got? 11:09 Oh, look at the baby bird. It's so cute. 11:11 Oh, yeah. Look at his eyes. 11:13 Oh, look at it! 11:14 You know, when God wants to tell us 11:16 about His protection, 11:17 I love the words used in our Treasure Text today, 11:19 a shield, a buckler, being under His wings. 11:23 If you've ever been to a farm, 11:24 it seems like no farm is complete 11:26 unless it has a bunch of chickens 11:27 running around. 11:29 Yeah. 11:30 When we visited my aunt, 11:32 there were always chicks around too. 11:33 And I was always amazed that the chicks 11:34 were usually never too far from their mom. 11:37 If something really scared them, 11:39 then the hen would quickly gather her chicks 11:41 and protect them under her wings. 11:43 Oh, that is so cool. 11:44 And God is like that. 11:45 He wants to gather and protect us from harm too. 11:48 That's true. 11:49 It's true that we live in a world 11:51 that often seems scary and dangerous. 11:54 It does seem like whatever we hear about is bad news. 11:57 Yeah. Yeah. 11:58 That's because we are living in a sinful world 12:01 where bad things can happen. 12:03 But God doesn't want us to be afraid, though. 12:05 And when we choose to stay close to Him, 12:08 He will protect us. 12:10 But a little chick won't be protected from danger 12:13 if he wanders far from the hen. 12:15 True. 12:16 I hope you will decide today not to wander away from God. 12:20 Stay close to Him today and every day of your life. 12:24 He wants to protect you because He loves you. 12:27 It says it right there, in today's Bible Treasure. 12:32 Hey, crew, why don't you come on in? 12:33 Let's have a prayer. 12:35 Yeah. Yeah, come on. 12:36 Would one of you guys like to pray for us? 12:38 I love to pray. Great. 12:39 Let's bow our heads. 12:43 Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for this day 12:45 and letting us know that You will always protect us 12:47 if we just depend on You. 12:49 In Jesus' name, amen. 12:50 Amen! Amen. 12:52 Amen. 12:53 Hey, do you guys want to hear the answer 12:55 to today's brain teaser? 12:56 Yeah. Please. 12:57 Yes, I've been waiting to hear. All right. 12:59 Let's see if any of you guys got it. 13:00 I don't know if you remember exactly how it read 13:01 but it talked about, 13:03 Jimmy's mom has four kids and one's called Monday, 13:05 Tuesday, and Wednesday. 13:06 Yeah, we got the fourth one. 13:08 What's the name of the fourth one? 13:09 Thursday maybe? 13:10 Not Thursday. 13:12 Oh, man. Wait a minute. 13:13 Did you say Jimmy's mother? 13:17 The fourth child's name is Jimmy. 13:19 Oh, that's great! 13:20 Very good. 13:22 You guys are sharp. 13:23 I'm so glad you joined us here today for Bible Treasures. 13:26 Don't forget to search for treasure every day. 13:30 See you next time. 13:31 Come on, guys. Let's head out to the dig side. 13:33 Yeah. Let's go. 13:34 Oh, good job! You got it right! 13:35 Man, that was fun. We're gonna have a great time. |
