00:02 It's time to go on a journey, a search for treasure!
00:08 This is no ordinary treasure, though. 00:11 This priceless discovery contains God's Word, 00:16 including secrets from the past and future 00:20 that will change your life. 00:23 Welcome to Bible Treasures! 00:31 Hey, guys! How are you doing? 00:33 Hey! Doing good. 00:34 I have to tell you this. What happened? 00:36 Well, I was so hot the other day 00:38 that I couldn't take it. 00:40 So I went to a baseball game. 00:41 Why? A baseball game? What? 00:44 Because there were a lot of fans. 00:47 You get it? Fans. 00:49 That's funny. I like it. Oh, yes. 00:50 Hey, guys, how's it going? Hi. 00:51 Hey! Hey! 00:53 Come on in. I'm so happy to see you guys. 00:54 You too. Happy to see you too. 00:56 Man, we're going to have a great time today here 00:57 on Bible Treasures. 00:58 We've got a great team, 01:00 let's let them introduce themselves. 01:01 Hi, I'm Tim. And I'm your computer expert. 01:04 And I'm Sam, the one that you need to talk to 01:06 if you want to learn more about historical documents. 01:09 And I'm Nori, your artifacts' girl. 01:11 Cool. I'm so glad you guys are here. 01:13 And we have a whole bunch of other crew members as well 01:16 working in different parts around us. 01:18 So, guys, before we even get too much farther... 01:20 Yeah. 01:21 How about we sharpen our brains? 01:23 Yay! Okay. 01:24 Yay! 01:25 All right, this is the best way to start off the day. 01:27 Let's see how you guys can do with this little riddle. 01:29 Okay. Ooh, yeah. 01:30 Here we go. 01:31 First, I threw away the outside and cooked the inside. 01:35 Then I ate the outside and threw away the inside. 01:39 What did I eat? 01:42 It doesn't make sense to me. I had it for a second, but I... 01:44 Almost think you had something? No. 01:46 No. 01:48 All right, you guys can think about that. 01:49 Oh, hey, do we have a message? Yeah. 01:50 Ooh. Yeah. 01:56 My family is so weird. 01:58 Can you help me? 01:59 Every morning we have worship and then we hold hands 02:01 and sing this one song and pray. 02:03 I used to like it. 02:05 But now I'm older and it's kind of embarrassing. 02:07 I can't believe he just called his family weird. 02:10 Well, I've met some pretty weird families. 02:13 That's true. Yeah, that is true. 02:15 There's some unique families out there. 02:17 But it doesn't mean they're bad. 02:19 Yeah. 02:20 How can we respond? 02:22 That's a good question. 02:23 But you know what, first things first, 02:24 why don't we get this question in our journal? 02:26 Yeah. Good idea. 02:28 Journal. 02:29 You know, we got to document these things. 02:30 Right. 02:32 Our family tradition's necessary? 02:37 We'll see. 02:39 How do we respond to this? 02:40 You know what, actually, I have an idea. 02:42 I'm thinking of an artifact 02:44 that I think will come in very handy. 02:45 Can you look up artifact... Yeah. 02:46 I think it's 66K. 02:48 Okay, 66K. Yeah. 02:50 You know what, it's kind of fun 02:51 bringing all our little trinkets 02:52 and prizes and treasures around. 02:54 Yeah. Here it is! 02:56 You found it? Yep. 02:57 Awesome. Don't know what this is. 02:58 They come in handy sometimes. They come in handy. 03:00 This is a great picture. I got to show you guys. 03:02 Ooh, it's a picture. I got to show you guys. 03:03 Check this out. Really? 03:05 Look at that. 03:08 So in this picture, I am in the city of Rome. 03:11 Wow! Wow! 03:13 Yeah, that's in Italy. 03:14 Hey, you know what, Sam, it'd probably be a good idea 03:16 to see where Rome is on the map. 03:18 Yeah. Okay. 03:20 It seems to be right here. 03:22 That's it. Yep. There it is. 03:24 Italy is kind of cool because it's a country 03:26 in the shape of a boot. 03:27 All right. All right, that's cool. 03:29 Yeah. Really? 03:30 You know what, actually, it probably wouldn't hurt 03:31 to see a Location Brief on Rome. 03:33 Do you think we have one? I can try. 03:34 Let's check it out, guys. Yeah. 03:40 Right there. 03:41 Ooh, there it is. 03:44 Location Brief, Rome. 03:47 Rome is a city located in the country of Italy, 03:51 in Southern Europe. 03:53 It is the capital of Italy and it is a very old city, 03:57 dating back to around 800 years 04:01 before the birth of Christ. 04:03 Over time, the Roman Empire grew until it eventually 04:08 took over the lands of Israel during the time 04:12 that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. 04:15 Rome is also an important part of the story of Paul 04:20 in the New Testament. 04:22 The Bible tells how Paul was imprisoned in Rome 04:25 and how he worked to start the Christian Church there. 04:30 Rome has often been called the City of Seven Hills 04:34 because of the original seven hills 04:36 that marked the boundaries of Rome. 04:39 But today, Rome has become a huge city 04:43 of over 4 million people in the metropolitan area. 04:48 Rome is one of the most popular cities 04:51 to visit in Europe. 04:53 And the city is home to some very famous landmarks, 04:57 including St. Peter's Basilica, and St. Peter's Square, 05:02 the Parthenon, the Ancient Roman Forum, 05:06 and of course, the Roman Colosseum. 05:11 The Roman Colosseum was an amphitheater 05:14 built between 70 AD and 80 AD. 05:18 Historians believe that at one point, 05:21 it could hold over 80,000 spectators at once. 05:26 But today, the ancient ruins are all that's left. 05:31 But those ruins are what brings millions of people per year 05:35 to visit the Colosseum. 05:38 This concludes this location Brief. 05:43 Wow. That's pretty cool. 05:44 Yeah. Yeah. 05:45 Rome is a really neat city. 05:47 I bet. And a really old city too. 05:49 It's cool 'cause it's kind of also mentioned 05:51 in the Bible as well. 05:53 Really? Yeah. 05:54 Now one of the most interesting things, 05:56 and probably my favorite place in Rome, 05:58 is the Roman Colosseum. 05:59 Oh! What's that? 06:01 It was this oval stadium that was built, 06:03 and they would do 06:04 all sorts of interesting events there. 06:06 Like what? 06:07 Well, sometimes, they had historical reenactments 06:10 and competitions of different kinds and sports. 06:12 Yeah, it was neat. 06:14 The cool thing is they believe that up to 80,000 people 06:17 could fit in there. 06:18 Whoa! Eighty thousand? 06:19 That's a lot. Can't believe that. 06:21 I mean, that's like one of the football stadiums 06:22 of today. 06:24 Yeah. It is. 06:25 Basically. 06:26 The interesting thing about this picture is 06:28 that I took the picture there at the Colosseum. 06:29 Okay. 06:30 But the reason why this is interesting 06:32 and why I want to talk to you about this 06:33 is because our family 06:34 has an interesting tradition with this location. 06:36 Oh, I love family traditions. Really? 06:38 What is it? Yeah. 06:39 Well, here's what happened. 06:41 In 1969, my father was the first person 06:43 in our family to travel to Rome. 06:45 Oh, cool. Oh. 06:47 He went on this trip related to the church, 06:48 and he got to visit the Colosseum. 06:50 And when he was there, 06:51 he jumped up on the rail just like I am there, 06:53 and he took a picture just like that. 06:55 And when we were little, he would show us that picture, 06:58 and he'd tell us funny stories 06:59 and how we had jumped on the rail. 07:01 And we just thought that was a great picture. 07:03 Now the interesting thing is, when I grew up, 07:06 and I was in college, I got a chance to visit Rome myself. 07:10 Really? Yeah. 07:11 What? Yeah. 07:12 And the cool thing is, I was there at the Colosseum, 07:15 and I was looking for that exact same spot 07:17 because I wanted to take the same picture that he took. 07:20 Oh, yeah. It's so cool. 07:21 So it was kind of funny. 07:22 I dragged all my friends around, and we found the spot, 07:24 and I said, "Hey, take a picture of me right up here 07:26 on the rail the same way." 07:27 They put the picture right there, and we took it. 07:29 And then I have my own souvenir copy of it. 07:31 Wow! 07:33 Oh, so it just kept going in your family? 07:34 Yeah. It just kept going. 07:36 And that's not where it ended because a few years later, 07:37 I got married, and my wife and I decided to have a trip. 07:40 And we went to Rome as well. 07:42 Oh, wow! So now... 07:43 Now let me guess. What? 07:44 You took the same picture. 07:46 We took the same exact picture again. 07:47 Oh, that's good. I knew it. 07:49 I took it to Rome, I said, 07:50 "Honey, we've got to take the same exact picture." 07:51 So walked through the Colosseum, 07:53 found that exact same spot, we both jumped up on the rail, 07:55 and we took the picture again. 07:57 Oh, yeah. Wow! 07:58 We have three different versions of this picture. 08:00 It was becoming a really fun family tradition. 08:02 That's so cool. It sounds cool. 08:04 But there was still one more time 08:05 that we went back. 08:06 What time? When was that? 08:08 What? 08:09 Yeah, 'cause when my wife and I had children, 08:10 and they grew up a little bit, we took a family vacation. 08:13 Took a family photo! Right. 08:15 Yep. The whole family went. 08:16 In Rome. We went back to Rome again. 08:18 And we went to this exact same spot again. 08:20 We all jumped up on the rail again. 08:23 And we all took the same picture 08:24 right in that same location. 08:26 That's so awesome. That's so cool! 08:28 Yeah, it became a cool family tradition. 08:30 And the reason traditions are important 08:32 is because parents love to use traditions 08:34 to teach their children. 08:36 Yeah, that's true. 08:37 Because when you repeat and you show a tradition, 08:38 that means that thing is valuable. 08:40 And I believe that the Bible also teaches us things 08:43 that we can use as part of traditions. 08:45 And there's a verse today 08:46 I think that could be really handy for us to read. 08:48 May I look it up? Absolutely. 08:50 Why don't you look it up? All right. 08:51 What is it? This verse is in Proverbs 22. 08:54 Proverbs 22. 08:57 Think it's verse 6. 08:59 Verse 6? Yep. 09:01 I see it. 09:02 "Train up a child in the way he should go, 09:05 and when he is old, he will not depart from it." 09:07 That's a good verse. Yeah. 09:09 Yeah. 09:10 I mean, it's saying it right there. 09:11 Parents, if you want to train your kids to learn 09:13 and appreciate important things, 09:15 develop traditions around them. 09:18 You know what, this is such a good verse, 09:20 I'm going to write it down. 09:21 Yeah, good idea. In the journal. 09:23 In the journal. Yeah. 09:24 What was it again, it was Proverbs? 09:25 22:6, I think. 09:27 Yeah. Proverbs 22:6. 09:29 Right. 09:31 What other traditions does your family have? 09:33 Oh, man. Yeah. 09:34 You know what, I'd say one of our favorite traditions 09:37 is when we travel, the four of us, 09:39 we love to take these very funny 09:41 and unique pictures. 09:43 We call them ninja pictures. Ninja? 09:45 Oh, that's cool. Yes. 09:47 So what we do is basically 09:48 when we go to a cool looking place, 09:49 we all pose as ninjas. 09:51 That's funny. Cool. 09:53 Actually, you guys want to see some? 09:54 Yeah, sure. Yes, please. 09:56 You know what? Your files? 09:57 Yeah, I think so. 09:58 There's a file in there, I think it's called Ninja. 10:00 Oh, that'd be nice to see. 10:01 Yeah, maybe we can pull them up. 10:04 Right there. 10:08 Oh, look at your face. 10:09 That's hilarious. 10:14 I know, as you're growing up, sometimes family traditions 10:17 seem boring and dumb. 10:19 But there's actually several reasons 10:21 why your parents make traditions. 10:23 As I mentioned a moment ago, 10:24 your parents want you to grow up in loving God. 10:28 So they take the advice from today's treasure text 10:30 and they try to make traditions 10:32 to find ways to make that special. 10:35 Traditions are good to help us learn something. 10:38 You know, in school, we repeat things 10:40 so that we can remember them, right? 10:42 Right. That's true. 10:43 Yeah. Yeah. 10:44 Well, parents also do things repeatedly 10:46 to help you remember them and to remind you 10:48 that these are important things. 10:51 I know, sometimes, you might think that 10:52 these things are kind of corny or embarrassing, 10:55 but try to understand why your parents do that, 10:58 and give them a break. 11:00 You know, our ninja pictures are a lot of fun. 11:03 But you know what, someday when our boys get bigger, 11:06 we may outgrow that tradition. 11:08 But the important part is that we used traditions 11:11 to try to make our families stronger 11:13 and to learn stuff. 11:15 As you grow up, 11:17 and meet new people and meet new friends, 11:19 traditions will also help you feel like 11:21 you belong to a group, or to a church, or to a club. 11:25 Of course, traditions help to build great memories. 11:29 And the most important tradition 11:30 that you can make is to connect with God every day. 11:34 That's why it's important to have family worship 11:37 and to make it a tradition to read from God's special book 11:41 every single day. 11:43 After all, that's what our treasure text says. 11:47 That's an amazing lesson. Yeah? 11:48 Yeah. 11:49 You know, why don't we end with a prayer? 11:51 Hey, crew, why don't you come on back in? 11:53 Let's end with a prayer. Yeah. 11:55 Would one of you guys like to have prayer for us? 11:57 I would like to. 11:59 Awesome, Sam. Right. 12:00 Okay. 12:01 Let's all bow our heads and take off our hats. 12:04 Dear Lord, thank You 12:06 for so many wonderful traditions 12:08 to make our family stronger. 12:10 Thank You for friends and family 12:12 and exploring expeditions. 12:14 In Your Son Jesus' name, I do pray, amen. 12:17 Amen. Amen. 12:19 Great prayer. Yeah. 12:20 Thank you. 12:21 Well, how many of you guys are interested 12:23 in trying to figure out the answer? 12:24 The riddle! I've been waiting for it. 12:25 Me, me, me, please, me, me, me, me, me. 12:27 All right. Well, let's see. 12:28 Let's see if you guys remember what I read. 12:29 I'm going to remind you guys just to give you a chance here. 12:31 First, I threw away the outside and cooked the inside. 12:36 Right. 12:38 Then I ate the outside and threw away the inside. 12:42 What did I eat? Is it an egg? 12:45 No. 12:47 I thought about that but... 12:49 Wait! Is it corn on the cob? 12:51 There you go. Corn on the cob. 12:52 Oh! I got it. 12:54 That was good. That was tricky. 12:55 That makes sense. 12:57 I'm so glad you joined us today for Bible Treasures. 12:59 Don't forget to search for treasure every day. 13:03 Hey, guys, I got a great idea. 13:05 What? What? 13:06 Should we take our own ninja pictures? 13:07 Oh, yeah, it's a great idea! Yeah. 13:09 All right. I got the camera here. 13:10 Why don't you guys get all right over here? 13:11 Okay. Okay. 13:13 All right, has everybody got a good ninja pose? 13:15 Yep. All right, let's do it. 13:17 Go ninjas! 13:20 Awesome. 13:21 Cool. 13:23 See you guys next time. 13:24 That was fun, guys. Yes, great. 13:25 We got to head on to the desert. 13:27 Oh, yeah. 13:28 We got a lot of work to do today. 13:29 Yeah. Come on, guys. 13:31 That was fun. |
